A very traditional Sorbian restaurant where the boss serves dressed in an original traditional costume. The food is very tasty. The map sounds promising. The vaulted ceiling is a highlight. A must if you are staying in Bautzen.

Food was amazing. I was served in English and I paid by card. None of this is common in the area of Bautzen.

The Wjelbik, Is a good restaurant in the heart of Bautzen. The vault on the ground floor is very beautiful, something between modernity and tradition. It is reflected in exactly the same way on the map. I would like more tradition here and if I want it to be modern, I would present Sorbian dishes interpreted differently on the plate. That brings us to the dishes, they were all good in terms of taste and presentation. Little tip, a little more courage to spice things up. And the children's ice cream plate was a dream to serve. The prices are almost cheap. The service should leave that stressed in the kitchen. It doesn't look professional on the guest. The sanitary facilities are modernized and very clean. Overall I can say I'll be back.

Hello, I was there two years ago and unfortunately I haven't been able to get there since then. I stayed at the Hotel Dom-Eck and the owner recommended this restaurant and the Sorbian Museum to me. Bautzen is really very beautiful, but the best thing about this city is this restaurant: lovingly decorated (you feel like you're in a community center); a perfect and very professional service (you feel like the guest of honor); not to forget the neat service clothes (I've never seen them before); The dishes are a poem, prepared in detail (you can see and taste that the chef learned his craft in Alsace)... and on top of that the prices are fair, elsewhere you pay much more for such quality. Just last week I was in Strasbourg, but I couldn't find a restaurant with this standard there (or anywhere else in Europe). Simply brilliant... I definitely have to come back to Bautzen to this fantastic restaurant 😉

Während eines Aufenthalts in Bautzen waren meine Frau und ich 2x in diesem Restaurant. Die Wahl erfolgte auf Grund der Bewertungen in verschiedenen Portalen. Service, Ambiente und kulinarische Leistung erwiesen sich als erstklassig. Hier sind echte Gastronomen am Werk, mit Liebe und Kompetenz. Das sorbische Hochzeitsessen, die Forelle mit Blutwurstkruste und die Kalbsleber waren sorgsam auf den Punkt zubereitet. Die vegetarischen Maultaschen waren ebenfalls bemerkenswert. Wir sind aus dem Lokal gegangen, mit dem Gefühl, lange nicht mehr so zufrieden mit einem Gaststättenbesuch gewesen zu sein.

Zum vierten Ma(h)l mit Enkel und Familienhuckepack hier zum Abendessen. Konstante Qualität über die Jahre verbunden mit besten Handwerk und ausgezeichneten Geschmack der Speisen - Es gibt wenig Lokale die das können. This place was buzzing with activity on a Thursday afternoon, despite being noon. The Sorbian cuisine is meat-heavy, but there are a few vegetarian options on the menu, and they’re happy to make something vegan if you ask. I had a lovely and delicious lunch. Thank you, I loved it.

We were visiting with friends. After over an hour, I asked where our food was. I received a snippy reply. It then took another 20 minutes, despite having a table reservation. The waiter also didn't ask about empty glasses. Other tables that arrived after us were served much sooner. We were made to feel very unwelcome. NEVER AGAIN!

We recently visited the Sorbian restaurant Wjelbik in Bautzen and were overall very satisfied. The historical ambience of the natural stone vault, which is around 600 years old, creates a cozy atmosphere. Our chosen dishes, the cordon bleu and the rump steak, were excellently prepared and tasted convincing - solid as always. However, we were disappointed that our reference to a birthday was ignored when making the online reservation. If the reason for the reservation is asked, we expect this to be taken into account. Otherwise you could omit this query. Such details add a personal touch and appreciation. Despite this small drawback, we can recommend Wjelbik for its excellent cuisine and special ambience.

Very, very tasty, ate all 7, including dessert. A must if you want to have a delicious meal. It's worth a detour. Great.....👍

Our first visit to Bautzen and we were warmly welcomed here without a reservation. I really enjoyed the Sorbian dishes and ordered the wedding menu with starter, main course and dessert. All dishes were fresh and beautifully prepared. If we come to this area again, we would be happy to stop again. I can highly recommend the restaurant. 👍👍👍

We were guests at the Christmas party in Wjelbik on December 13th, 2024. The ambience, the service and the excellent food left nothing to be desired (even for spoiled palates). Nothing for every day, just something to look forward to, being able to visit Wjelbik as a guest and enjoy life with all your senses.

Certainly one of the best restaurants in Bautzen. The food and atmosphere is fantastic. A little insight into Sorbian hospitality and culture. The prices are completely justified for the food, everything is harmoniously selected. Early booking is necessary as it is always busy.

It was our first visit to "Wjelbik". Despite the late hour, we were greeted very hospitably and attentively. The ambience is cozy and exquisite. And the food tastes really good and everything is prepared with love and detail. We were pleasantly impressed by how thoughtful and service-oriented the guest service was. Did I mention that such a perfect experience makes you happy? Then I'll do it now and we'll definitely be happy to be guests again.

Everything was right again! From the friendly welcome and service to the very good wine recommendations and the promising menu. It was fun right from the start and the magicians in the kitchen surprised us with every course. We look forward to our next visit and wish the entire team all the best until then!

We made a reservation at Wjelbik for my friend's birthday because we had only heard good things. Unfortunately our expectations were not met at all. It started with being able to specify an “occasion” and “other requests” when reserving a table online. So we noted that it was a birthday and we would like to have a quiet table, a little away. When we arrived at Wjelbik, we were assigned a table in the middle, surrounded by other tables. There was no birthday wish or possible decorations on the table - why can you choose an occasion if it is not taken into account? The staff was very friendly but not very attentive. After the meal we weren't even asked how the food was or whether we would like to order anything else. Instead, it was simply cleared away… without comment. The food was good but nothing special. It's a real shame, a special evening was marred by inadequate service. Would we recommend the Wjelbik? Tends to be not...

Went to Wjelbik for St. Martin's goose dinner (5 course menu) and have never eaten as deliciously as I did there. A big thank you to the staff for the excellent service. All highly recommended.

Holiday in Upper Lusatia. Bicycle tour around Bautzen. Got a table at Wjelbik at short notice. Very appealing atmosphere. We were appropriately dressed for a bike tour, but that was never noted negatively. Very friendly, polite, interested service. We had mustard soup and chanterelle cappuchino, false fillet and carp fillet. Everything was very tasteful, nicely presented. Delicious beer with it (Sorbian or Budweiser on tap). We can recommend the restaurant without reservation. The price is also completely reasonable. The only thing is: you're already sitting close to the other guests - but what do you want to do when the space is limited and the guests are streaming in. The alternative would be to reduce tables and increase prices. Fewer people would then be able to enjoy the friendly attention of the guests. You don't want that. Dźakuju like that! Božemje! And to those who allow themselves to be tempted to dine there I say: Dajće sej słodźeć!

Obwohl wir schon seit über 12 Monate in Bautzen wohnen, waren wir erst gestern erstmals Gast im WJELBIK. Meine Frau und ich waren total begeistert vom Ambiente und von der freundlichen Bewirtung. Besonders hervorheben möchte ich die tollen Speisen, die wir haben genießen dürfen. Hier möchte ich nochmals der Küche meinen besonderen Dank ausrichten. Ich bedauere sehr, dass wir erst mit Verspätung DEN Weg zum WJELBIK gefunden haben. Für mich steht, dass wir zukünftig öfters Gäste des WJELBIK sein werden.

We were warmly greeted at the entrance and shown to our reserved seats. All employees were very attentive and friendly during our stay. We had the autumn menu and the Sorbian menu. The meals were excellent. We really enjoyed the starters (wedding soup, chanterelle cappuccino), the main courses (pumpkin-crusted chicken, ox in horseradish sauce) and the desserts (poppy seed mousse, elderberry cold dish). If we lived near Bautzen, we would definitely visit Wjelbik regularly.

The restaurant was recommended to us, we reserved in advance and stated the occasion as an anniversary, it was our wedding anniversary. We were welcomed and shown to a small table at the entrance to the kitchen and the bar. It was very gloomy to notice, every walk back and forth, staff that came, everyone basically stopped at our table and talked. The food was very good, something special, but the atmosphere wasn't really. They cleared up after the meal, we were given a dessert menu, but otherwise they didn't take care of us. We actually wanted to spend a nice evening there, but we just ate and left, didn't really feel comfortable, as if they didn't need to take care of all the guests, but it wasn't full. It's a shame, a very nice traditional restaurant with delicious food, but it left a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths.

Every visit is a pampering program. We love the food freshly prepared with regional ingredients, the very good service, the historical vault combined with modern aspects and the family atmosphere.
