Sorbisches Restaurant Wjelbik Bautzen in Bautzen

While visiting Bautzen, we stumbled upon this restaurant somewhat by accident, but it was a great find. The place is atmospheric, the food is delicious and interesting, and the staff is helpful and friendly. It's definitely worth a visit to sample the regional dishes.

We had to think for a long time about the last time we ate so well.

For me, Wjelbik is the best restaurant in Bautzen. If you love good food, this is the place for you.

The best place in town, a very authentic restaurant – the owner works professionally in Sorbian traditional costume, and the "Sagenfenster" (saga window) is a real eye-catcher. We were able to stay for dinner without a reservation and indulged ourselves: "Five Lusatian Delicacies" – meat aspic, trout mousse praline, baked goat's cheese, Bautzen mustard roast, corn-fed chicken sausages, a salad bouquet, or fried veal liver in Marsala sauce with mashed potatoes and onion rings. This was accompanied by a well-tapped regional beer. Everything was very well prepared and tasted excellent. Add to that the excellent service – we give it 5 stars and would happily recommend this restaurant.

We had dinner at the WJELBEK, and we can say that everything was absolutely outstanding. From the welcome to the farewell, we felt very comfortable and welcome. The food was fantastic, the service was absolutely friendly; everything was perfect for us. We would definitely recommend it and extend a huge thank you to the WJELBEK team.

Undoubtedly the best restaurant in Bautzen. A culinary highlight. Great atmosphere. Make sure you make a reservation, otherwise you won't have a chance on weekends. One thing bothered me: the service changed constantly. We were served by at least five different servers that evening. That's not very pleasant, even though everyone was friendly. But overall: Highly recommended!

The two of us were here for Saturday lunch. Despite having reserved a table, we were immediately offered a table. The restaurant has a sophisticated atmosphere, with exceptionally friendly staff and truly excellent cuisine. In addition to a varied menu, they offer an extensive wine selection, including a fine selection by the glass. The drinks and food were served without long waits. We chose mustard soup and veal liver with mashed potatoes. We hadn't tried mustard soup before, and it was a revelation: delicately seasoned and with such a good poached egg, topped with a foam of herbs. The starter was even surpassed by the liver. I've never had such tenderly fried liver in my entire life. The junior manager, dressed in Sorbian costume, embodied the authenticity of the restaurant and was visibly pleased that the guests felt at home. We were also lucky that a Sorbian family celebration was taking place at neighboring tables, so we were also able to experience songs and graces in Sorbian.

We were thrilled. The food was delicious and tasted perfect. The dessert was a dream. We haven't had such a good meal in a restaurant in a long time. There were good beers to choose from.

A special experience! From the warm welcome to the starter, main course, and dessert, everything was top-notch! After the wonderful meal here on Saturday, I came back here especially on my way back from Görlitz. Today, the wonderful autumn menu with chanterelle mushrooms. A superlative taste experience! And the dessert with poppy seed mousse! Best dessert ever! I'm already looking forward to the next time! All the best to my favorite restaurant!

I invited my children, and what can I say? Everyone was absolutely thrilled again. Everything was just perfect: a lovely ambiance, lovingly prepared, delicious food. If you're visiting Bautzen, you should definitely try this restaurant! A reservation is definitely worth it, as it's almost always busy, and rightly so. We've eaten here several times and are always impressed. The food, service, and ambiance leave nothing to be desired. There's really nothing negative to say—everything is consistently excellent!

Very tasty. Unfortunately, our table was near the kitchen door, and we were sitting in the kitchen fumes. It smelled delicious, of course... but the dose was just too much. The service was very friendly and attentive.

This is a very nice restaurant with outdoor seating around the corner. Our meals: wedding soup, five delicacies, and aspic were very good and interesting, and absolutely excellent value for money. I personally highly recommend the aspic with fried potatoes! And of course, the staff shouldn't be underestimated either... thumbs up.

The food is traditional and very tasty. Serbian cuisine in that region is not much different from other local dishes. The service was fantastic and very friendly. We were a group of six, and they easily arranged tables for us and served the children.

The Cordon Bleu was definitely one of the best I've ever eaten! Actually, I had two of them, so it was easy to fill you up. :) The service was friendly, and the overall experience was relaxed. Our advance reservation for several people on the same day was no problem.

The best restaurant in Bautzen. A very varied menu, a bit more sophisticated, but at reasonable prices in my opinion. A very special atmosphere with a connection to Sorbian culture, and a family-run business. Highly recommended for visitors to the city and locals alike! Recently, a special section of the menu has been focusing on slow cooking.

This was a culinary experience, unique, with attention to detail and utterly delicious. The service was natural, courteous, attentive, and friendly. The interior was eye-catching, and the entrance very inviting. We sat in the small garden around the corner and felt at home. The information on the menu about the origins and lifestyle of the Sorbs was very interesting. The selection of dishes wasn't extensive, but sufficient. The price was a bit high, but reasonable. We will definitely recommend it and will be back.

Here, high-quality ingredients are prepared in a wonderful atmosphere to create a true culinary delight, served with style. The staff, some dressed in traditional costume, are very polite and clearly dedicated to service. I'm very happy to have dined there with my family.

This restaurant serves Sorbian cuisine. The selection of Sorbian dishes is small but excellent. We had the Sorbian wedding soup, the Bautzen mustard soup, and the Sorbian wedding dinner, and everything was delicious. Highly recommended. Be sure to reserve a table in advance.

I had the set menu with a wedding soup, a mock ox fillet in horseradish sauce, and a cold elderberry soup with quark mousse – and I would highly recommend this menu.

We've been coming to this restaurant for years, at irregular but regular intervals. Its exceptionally polite staff and friendly owner are always there. The food is comparable to a top grade, the menu has been changing for 20 years, and the prices are absolutely reasonable, even given the current economic climate. A must-visit when we're back in this area from the north.

Cooking as a craft at its finest: Perfectly prepared dishes with finely balanced flavor nuances. We've rarely eaten this well – outside of Michelin-starred cuisine – which is why we visited Wjelbik twice during our two-day visit to Bautzen. The staff is extremely friendly. Thank you for this culinary experience! We recommend making a table reservation in advance by phone.

Highly recommended. The Lusatian roulades with red cabbage and napkin dumplings were a delight. It's a shame the kitchen closes at 7:30 p.m. The wine selection by the glass also leaves something to be desired.

We were four adults, a child, and a dog, and had reserved a table outside. The welcome was excellent. The dog was given water, and the child was given crayons and a story to color in. Our server was very prompt without being intrusive, and the food was simply excellent. The value for money is also excellent. The restaurant is definitely recommended. Anyone interested in Sorbian cuisine should definitely stop here.

Man sollte in jedem Fall vorher reservieren und wir hatten Glück, ohne Reservierung für sieben Personen einen Tisch zu bekommen. Eine wirkliche Empfehlung, wenn man mal in Bautzen ist.

A very traditional Sorbian restaurant where the boss serves dressed in an original traditional costume. The food is very tasty. The map sounds promising. The vaulted ceiling is a highlight. A must if you are staying in Bautzen.

In Dresden wurden meiner Frau und mir als Abschluss unserer Kurzvisite Bautzen statt Cottbus empfohlen! Wir haben das gemacht. Wir haben uns spontan am Vortrag per Mail beim Lokal angemeldet und erhielten eine positive Rückmeldung . Das Lokal war rappelvoll. Spontane Gäste wurden sehr höflich vertröstet. Wir orderten das Sorbische Hochzeitsessen. Suppe mit viel Inhalt wie bei Oma früher. Köstlich! Falsches Ochsenfilet mit Merettichsosse. Wahlweise scharf und normal. Beides sehr schmackhaft und sehr lecker. Auch der Nachtisch richtig gut.

Food was amazing. I was served in English and I paid by card. None of this is common in the area of Bautzen.

The Wjelbik, Is a good restaurant in the heart of Bautzen. The vault on the ground floor is very beautiful, something between modernity and tradition. It is reflected in exactly the same way on the map. I would like more tradition here and if I want it to be modern, I would present Sorbian dishes interpreted differently on the plate. That brings us to the dishes, they were all good in terms of taste and presentation. Little tip, a little more courage to spice things up. And the children's ice cream plate was a dream to serve. The prices are almost cheap. The service should leave that stressed in the kitchen. It doesn't look professional on the guest. The sanitary facilities are modernized and very clean. Overall I can say I'll be back.

Hello, I was there two years ago and unfortunately I haven't been able to get there since then. I stayed at the Hotel Dom-Eck and the owner recommended this restaurant and the Sorbian Museum to me. Bautzen is really very beautiful, but the best thing about this city is this restaurant: lovingly decorated (you feel like you're in a community center); a perfect and very professional service (you feel like the guest of honor); not to forget the neat service clothes (I've never seen them before); The dishes are a poem, prepared in detail (you can see and taste that the chef learned his craft in Alsace)... and on top of that the prices are fair, elsewhere you pay much more for such quality. Just last week I was in Strasbourg, but I couldn't find a restaurant with this standard there (or anywhere else in Europe). Simply brilliant... I definitely have to come back to Bautzen to this fantastic restaurant 😉
