Tasty bitter schnitzel, fast and friendly service.

Just always nice, especially when the chestnuts are in bloom - a place with good, down-to-earth food, friendly service and a certain conscience.

Very funny, bright and typically cheeky Bavarian service that you don't know any other way in good Bavarian restaurants. It was my first time with my family in the Osterwaldgarten and I would come back without question. The outdoor area is surprisingly large, well covered in case of rain and dogs are tolerated both in the beer garden/outdoor area and in the restaurant. 🙏🏽 4x roast pork with dumplings, crusty crusts, special requests and sauce were excellently served to our team. The vegetarian lentil dish must also have been very good according to fellow visitors. Anytime again, great location directly at the English Garden.

So what can you say? A perfect beer garden in the immediate vicinity of the English Garden not far from Münchener Freiheit. The food is high quality and priced accordingly, no cheap meat! A dream for every palate who wants to get to know and enjoy Bavarian cuisine. We were there twice in one weekend and certainly not for the last time! The service: on the first day (according to the bill: Flo K.) something attentive and friendly, like from another world! He just comes over and asks if I would like some more jus with the dumplings, it's boring without sauce....brings it and says: "Now it's fun again!" Nothing appears on the bill.....and my wife's wine spritzer was immediately announced: "I'll bring some more ice cream, right?" So she could vary the ratio according to her mood. And also on the second day (Mike) was extremely friendly, very attentive and always with a funny saying! Conclusion: a traditional restaurant (since 1847) with an excellent ambience, great service and outstanding cuisine!

Very nice and quiet beer garden right at the Englischengarten. The schnitzel is very tasty (I recommend the fried potatoes with it 👌). The Kaiserschmarrn is also very good and caramelized, but without rum raisins. The waiters are very friendly and the service is always quick.

Beautiful beer garden in Schwabing, just before you leave the town and enter the English Garden. Did it already exist when it was still a village and not yet part of Munich? Whatever the case, it's still a bit like the good old days here. Good food, but not exactly cheap.

Nice place for summer next to English garden. But 29.99 eur for a full Schnitzel like in the picture was absolutely overpriced and felt like I was being robbed. The meat was super thin. You can definitely find better food in other places. Beer, wine and food over priced for the quantity and the quality.

I have known the Osterwaldgarten for almost 60 years and I am happy that it exists and that it has been able to retain its original atmosphere. The food is excellent, the service is really outstanding and you just feel comfortable there. It's very cozy inside and when the weather is nice there's a wonderful beer garden. Duck and roast pork are excellent, but I find it extremely pleasing that there are now more interesting vegetarian dishes and that the cheese pätzle now also has a permanent place on the menu.

Very good alternative to the beer garden at the Seehaus

My family and I have enjoyed coming here for years. Unfortunately the quality of the food is deteriorating more and more! Today I had a roast pork and it really wasn't good at all, the sauce was light and tasteless! Apparently it was the same chef as always, I asked the waiter about it... he obviously didn't care that I was dissatisfied! It's a shame, it used to be my favorite restaurant Food 0 points Service maximum 2 points 👎👎👎

Da ich in der unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft zum Osterwaldgarten wohne, besuche ich diesen Gasthof in unregelmässigen Abständen seit Jahrzehnten. Was mich allerdings im Sommer 2024 bei meinem wahrscheinlich letzten Besuch schier vom Stuhl warf, war die Preissteigerung für eine Radlermass im Vergleich zum Vorjahr: + 2 Euro auf nunmehr 11,00 Euro, d.h.: exakt 22,2% mehr als im Vorjahr!! Auf meine Frage nach dem Hintergrund dieser exorbitanten Preissteigerung entgegnete der Kellner mit einem süffisanten Lächeln lapidar: "Das ist halt Schwabing". Und ich muß eingestehen: Da hat er Recht!

Unfortunately I have to agree with the negative reviews: the quality and preparation of the food has deteriorated for some reason. Unfortunately, people now probably work with ready-made products in the kitchen. And you can taste it. This can be easily recognized by the allergen labels that are now mandatory next to the dishes on the menu. Unfortunately, these reveal (including the allergen statement “I” “grain containing gluten”) that in the Osterwaldgarten, too, all dark sauces from roast pork, goulash, Böfflamot, duck and onion roast are now mixed together with the same cheap Maggi or Knorr ready-made sauce from the wholesale market . Unfortunately, when it came to the dark sauce for the Böfflamot, the cheap instant quality was too noticeable and the taste was therefore absolutely not enjoyable. With relatively high prices, guests now expect appropriate quality without the use of finished products. The days when guests were content with instant sauces and meals are now over, with prices now averaging €25 to €30 for main courses and beer prices at €5.50. Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio in the Osterwaldgarten is no longer right for us.

Very rude service. The server added two euros on top of the bill (we just had two drinks) without asking for a tip and hid the screen of the card terminal so that I do not notice the difference

Wir waren schon oft in diesem Restaurant, leider war diesmal das Essen sehr schlecht., und ohne jeden Geschmack. Zwei Gerichte sind zurückgegeben worden. Die Zwiebeln auf den Käsespatzen waren noch das Beste an diesem Gericht, denn sie waren aus der Büchse. Die Reaktion: die Gerichte werden natürlich nicht berechnet. Kein Wort der Entschuldigung. Der Service war wohl überfordert. So war es garantiert der letzte Besuch, es gibt viele bessere Restaurants!

Very crowded and very narrow! Never specify children with their own seat in the table reservation! We got the worst place right at the door to the toilet (6 adults and 2 children 7 and 5 years old). You can do it with families!!!! The service was very friendly with Asian understanding. We had to wait a long time for our food After I finally got my Boefflamotte due to a food mix-up, I was very surprised and disappointed, on the oval plate, hardened bread dumpling pieces, then red cabbage that was in the sauce and on top of that two thin slices with a slight fat edge, the Boeff! Such a disappointment for €25.00 I don't want to go into more detail about everything else... What a shame for Boxing Day. Maybe just bad luck? Anyway, a nice place all around with the beautiful inn building.

Ich kann mich nicht erinnern wann ich das letzte Mal so schlecht gegessen habe und das bei einem völlig überhöhten Preis. Die Leberknödelsuppe für 8,90 war völlig versalzen. Als wir reklamiert haben bekamen wir einen neuen Teller. Geschmack dann null nur praktisch mit heißem Wasser verdünnt. Ich habe eine Fischsuppe gegessen. Das war ein normaler Suppenteller wo nicht mal mit Brühe voll war. Es waren ca 4 Stückchen ( ganz klein geschnitten) Fisch drin. Der Rest war schon komplett zerfallen aber auch da nur geringe Menge. Die Flüssigkeit war eigentlich nur geschmacklich Glas mit Fischfond erhitzt. Keinerlei sonstige Gewürze nur ganz wenig Gemüse. . Der Scampispieß war trocken und kalt. Das Baguette wurde mir schon 5 Minuten vor der Suppe gebracht und war dann auch schon kalt und steinhart. Die Aoli war ungefähr ein gestrichener Esslöffel. So und jetzt kommt’s: für 22 EUR!!!!! Unverschämtheit Übrigens haben auch die 3 Herren am Nebentisch gemeint dass dieses Lokal sicher von ihnen nicht mehr besucht wird weil das Essen schlecht war und der Preis dafür völlig überhöht. Nie wieder

The Schwabinger Osterwaldgarten is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy. Great atmosphere inside and outside with a nice beer garden. You will be treated with great attention & friendliness. Great food with a delicious beer. I've been there several times now and would love to come back.

Delightful restaurant and outstanding service! Friendly, attentive, nice, helpful and fast. Food was very, very good, there were 15 of us and we still had a la carte. Up and down the whole map and everything was great. Prices surprisingly fair for the quality, portion size and city center. Definitely a recommendation and I would be happy to come back! Super pleasant restaurant with very tasty food. The prices are adapted to Munich but are completely fine. Friendly staff who are always up for a joke, very refreshing. All around an absolute recommendation.

The Osterwaldgarten used to be one of my favorite hotspots in Schwabing... Beautiful outdoor area, right next to the English Garden, good Bavarian cuisine and always good and charming service But today it looks a little different, sometimes it's "okay" sometimes it's really disappointing. Dishes like duck or knuckle used to be legendary, but today they're just average It's a shame because the location is great and the potential is definitely there.

We took a relaxed hour walk from the centre of old town through the English gardens to get here, but there is convenient public transport right on the doorstep. Service was excellent, very helpful to non German speaking tourists. Food and beer both outstanding. We loved the venue and felt like we were locals for our time here. Definitely worth the visit.

Nice restaurant on the edge of the English Garden

The food was ok, the garden was very dirty, the condition was "always trying"

Disappointed after previous visits. Beer was good. Food not worth the price. Venison swamped in heavy sauce, spoiling flavour. Piece of venison steak was ok, if a bit tough, but triangular venison slices were bland. Knödel ok but the few mushrooms were soggy and tasteless. Sprouts were the best thing.

I had pheasant with tagliatelle for €27.50. Very tasty, but only two small pieces of pheasant; I think it's really outrageous, even for Munich. My wife had cheese spaetzle for €16.90. It was tasty and the portion size was OK. Beer 0.5L on tap was delicious (Spaten Hell), but not topped up to 0.5L. There was a cleaner in front of the toilet collecting money. I didn't give anything as a restaurant visitor and didn't receive any negative comments or anything like that. Service very nice.

Wir waren am 15.10.2024 gegen 15 Uhr zum Kaffee trinken im Osterwaldgarten. Und da wurden wir von einer weiblichen Bedienung betreut, die unfreundlicher nicht hätte sein können. Kein Grüß Gott und immer nur pampig. Ich sage nur „heiße Liebe mit Sahne“!!! So was habe ich noch nie erlebt. Wenn man keine Freude an Menschen und vor allem an Kindern hat, sollte man seinen Beruf an den Nagel hängen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall nicht wieder.

Food was good as always. Prices have gone up but today that's to be expected.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case today. Dishes served differently than stated on the menu, corrections not made. Main dishes and side dishes not tasty, unlike the last visit.

Went here on a recommendation for good Bavarian cuisine. Half knuckle 19.90 was so dry and the crust was tough that I could only eat about half. The second meal was a small schnitzel with fried potatoes (19.90). Schnitzel tough and fried potatoes not crispy, but salty. You can't score points with me like that!

Very quiet place to taste Bavarian cuisine. We really liked the food and above all I recommend ordering the kaiserschmarrn for dessert (spectacular). The only thing that shocked us a little as it was the first restaurant we went to in Munich was the price of water (€8) and that the waitress added €6 to our bill (we imagine it was the tip for the service). Tolle Location, lecker und supertolle Bedienung. Fabelhaft, Witzig, sehr charmant und aufmerksam. Sie hatte sogar mein Doggy Bag aufgehoben, als ich zuerst vergessen hatte es mitzunehmen .

A rather not so nice waitress in the beer garden who comes to the table every 5 minutes and asks if you can take something with you. You feel very watched and can't enjoy your time there at all. The quality of the food has also decreased. We enjoyed eating here, but won't be coming back!

Beautiful beer garden in a great location by the English Garden. The service guys were very nice and accommodating. But the food was a disaster. Schnitzel was over-fried on one side. Bread dumplings in mushroom sauce inedible and very tasteless ;) Kaiserschmarren not cooked through, mostly huge, half-raw lumps. The portions are small and at a high price. 2 stars for the food because of the attractive presentation.

Food is average but too expensive. There are many other local Munich foods places with better food and lower prices. Service didn’t pay attention at all and we needed to ask for a menu and order ourselves. The garden is lovely though. Biggest minus: an expensive, nice restaurant shouldn’t have a cleaning lady/man standing in front of the restrooms and pulling for a tip. Please pay them better and ensure a good atmosphere! Nogo!

A nice beer garden in Schwabing. You sit totally comfortably and comfortably under old trees. Good, honest Bavarian cuisine. The Obazda with the bread is a poem. And the homemade Kaiserschmarren rounds off the evening perfectly. The service is friendly, attentive and not at all intrusive. Special requests were also implemented without complaint. The Osterwaldgarten is definitely a must on every visit to Munich.

Great inn right at the entrance to the English Garden! The employees wear dirndls and lederhosen and are very friendly. The decor is very authentic and the menu has great German options. Everything tasted delicious - I would recommend the meat dishes as the meat is very tender! There are also vegetarian and vegan options.

First evening in Munich, time to check out those much-read beer gardens! Unfortunately it just started raining really hard and this was the first place where we could take shelter, but it looked nice so we decided to just sit there. Two minutes later, two delicious half liters of Weissbier are on the table and the party can begin! After much hesitation, the wife opted for the Wiener schnitzel, I opted for the goulash. Both were served by the extremely friendly waiter in generous portions. The goulash was extremely tasty, so tasty in fact that the woman became a bit jealous and wanted to taste it no less than three times. Fortunately, I received a piece of Wiener schnitzel three times in return, so I can say from my own experience that the schnitzel was also very tasty. Afterwards we ordered two more half liters of Weissbier, enjoyed the cozy atmosphere in the restaurant and finished with a well-deserved tip for the friendly waiter. Auf wiedersehen!

A party of 4 - we each tried a different dish and they were each excellent. Authentic Bavarian dishes that did not disappoint. Service was also fantastic!

Sitting in this beer garden is still very nice. However, we were disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food, especially since it used to be much better. Our impression is that prices go up and little emphasis is placed on quality and presentation. There is no longer any coleslaw with the roast pork, which has to be ordered and paid for separately, and with the schnitzel there is a slice of tomato and lemon. They are between the side dishes, not even on a lettuce leaf. The waitress and her Austrian colleague were very nice. We won't be coming back anytime soon, maybe we'll visit again later.

Gestures we were again faced with the question: roast pork or Wiener schnitzel? To settle the argument, the two of us ordered a roast pork and a (small) schnitzel. Only this time we couldn't agree on which was better! Our joint verdict: Roast pork and Wiener schnitzel have never been so good! Please don't let the chef go! And there is no nicer place to sit than in the shade of the chestnut trees in the garden. The service was, as always, charming and quick. Thanks!

Waiters a bit unstructured and had to wait a long time for the menu and drinks. As compensation there was an apricot schnapps on the house. Otherwise nice atmosphere in the English garden and very tasty food. The schnitzels were very good :)

The food here is fantastic. Decent portions anyway, which is normal in the region, but above all everything tastes excellent and the quality of the ingredients is top. Unfortunately I made the mistake of trying the roast pork the third time. It's just way too good, I won't be able to try anything else in the future. Photo may follow next time :)

We had heard a lot about the Osterwaldgarten, and a friend reported generous portions. Everything tasted really great! Unfortunately the portion was outrageously small. I was very hungry and specifically ordered the giant butter schnitzel. €22.90. When it came I was very disappointed. A giant schnitzel that doesn't even think outside the box? I've never seen that before. When I complained, all I said was: "It's man-made and therefore always different sizes..." and "that would be completely normal". I was then charged €2.50 for the extra cranberries (mini mini portion). A pity. I generally pay a little more for a nice location, good food and good service. In this case unfortunately not satisfactory. Come again? Rather not...

Very nice and nice restaurant with a cozy beer garden. The food was great, the innkeeper and staff were very welcoming and definitely worth a visit. The location directly at the English Garden offers the opportunity for a walk or something similar with the family.

As always, it was a pleasure to come here. The Osterwaldgarten impresses with its friendly and fast service. Everyone is in good hands here, regardless of whether you just want to eat a little something or want to have a really hearty meal.

After a pleasant walk through the English Garden north from the walled section of Munich, you'll feel relative relief from the crowds that are a signature part of that section of this beautiful city. A quite pleasant atmosphere and outstanding service are the things I'll remember most about this place. I hope to return!
