Schützenhaus in Bernkastel-Kues

NO STAR FOR NOTHING! Anyone who wants to reserve a table at the Schützenhaus for 6 or more people has to specify in advance what the guests will eat or consume, otherwise they won't get a table! Where does that happen? This isn't just a friendly way of saying it, it's not only disregarding the customer, the guest who provides the income for this establishment, but it's downright damaging to business. Let's remember the times of Corona, when every takeaway meal, every half cent, was vital to survival. They've long since forgotten that; they're apparently above it all. What exactly happened? A table for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday was supposed to be reserved by phone the day before, after lunch and long before the "rush" for dinner. They tried to force us to order all main courses over the phone, even though the menu wasn't clear, nor could they coordinate whether and what each of the 6 people would like to eat. Even after asking if we were staying longer and that we had two disabled people with us, we were refused a table reservation. "If you just want coffee and cake," we couldn't reserve a table. The lady on the phone simply assumed we were "consuming inappropriately." Saturday, October 4, 2025: Rainy weather during the traditional coffee hour makes it impossible to keep a table free for six people, two of whom are disabled, one of whom also has a mental disability. This restaurant would rather forgo €20 to €40 in revenue per person. You ignorant people won't get our hard-earned money! Not even on the next or the next opportunity!!! I'd rather drive 20km for a family reunion than support this customer unfriendliness with even a single cent! Addendum, October 5, 2025: Instead of showing understanding, the owner, Mr. Kronne, subsequently lectures us. The employee actually misrepresented the phone call internally. When making the reservation, I didn't mention a single word about wanting coffee and cake. I explained at length that I couldn't predict what would be served in advance for all guests. Instead, the employee assumed that this was the case and that we, quote, "had to decide on main courses" for a reservation to even be accepted. I ended the call because the lady became loud and unfriendly. I won't let them yell at me, especially not after trying to find a solution despite my initial rejection. Now that the owner also thinks he absolutely has to be right and has even accused me of insulting me, I'm happy to inform him: we happily spent a total of €297 + tip on food and drinks at another, truly hospitable restaurant. You won't see us in this life, and at least in the next! Mr. Kromme, lecture and insult others! This behavior is arrogant and presumptuous. As an entrepreneur and former retailer, I don't understand this narrow-mindedness.

A wonderful place to walk to after visiting Burg Landshut (if, like us, you have a hotel in the village) and enjoy the wonderful view with a nice glass of wine on the terrace in the sun.

A truly wonderful restaurant with a magnificent view over Bernkastel-Kues. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I can only recommend it, and the food is also delicious. If we're ever here again, we'll definitely come back.

A must-visit if you're in Bernkastel-Kues! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the wine selection was excellent. The view over Bernkastel-Kues is amazing and simply beautiful. It's best to check the opening hours online beforehand. Part of the beer garden is for drinks only, while the upper part and the building itself are open for dining. (The landlady explained everything clearly and was easy to follow.) Thanks for the lovely afternoon, we'd love to come back!

A very nice restaurant, high above Bernkastel. The climb is a bit strenuous, but it's worth it. The view is unique. The service is very attentive and friendly. The menu is small but delicious. We had the kibbelinge with and without fries. They also served it with remoulade sauce and yuppie sauce. Very tasty. We will definitely be back and are glad to have escaped the mass tourism in Bernkastel for a while.

We spent a week in Bernkastel-Kues and had dinner at the Schützenhaus, among other places. The owners and waitresses are very friendly. The view is fantastic and it's very cozy. You have to climb about 130 steps up into the vineyard, but it's worth it. If you're not so good on your feet, you should take a taxi. The menu is small but fine and offers something for everyone. We had kibbelinge (a kind of fried pork with fries) and smoked pork, sausage and Gräwes (a simple mixture of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut), and a side salad. We also had the Mega Spätlese Riesling. It was delicious 😋 Best wishes to the Schützenhaus.

A cozy restaurant with a Dutch owner, offering a beautiful view of the town and the Moselle River, reasonably priced food, and clean restrooms. The food was good and tasty. The only downside was the abundance of wasps, though we didn't see a wasp trap anywhere.

It has a pretty view all over the city, plenty of seating, good service, a decent price, and especially good food like their specialty in Dutch fried cod. Don't see any reasons not to go here when you're close. We were very satisfied.

The climb out of town is definitely worth it. We decided on a whim to head to Landshut Castle, and about halfway there, the Schützenhaus (shooting house) appeared. The view is breathtaking. The service was super friendly, attentive, and courteous. Even in the rain, it's worth it. Treat yourself to the castle, the climb through the vineyard, and the Schützenhaus (shooting house).

What a great cozy restaurant in a hard to find place but always full when the sun shines. Dear people, when the sun doesn't shine there are still 2 suns in the house. Meet Anja and Jessie! And chef Ton provides an Indian sun on your plate! So no matter what the weather is like, at least 3 (three) suns shine in the Schütsenhaus! So don't hesitate, go there for a bite to eat and/or a drink and tell me what is wrong with this review!!!

With a very beautiful view of the Moselle, the city and the castle ruins of Landshut

Hello, we ordered the Riesling cheese soup and "mashed potatoes + smoked pork" today at around 3 p.m. We tried about 2-3 tablespoons of each (it had a slight metallic taste), didn't like it, and left it alone. Now we're back at the apartment, and we both have diarrhea. How is that possible? Please check whether the cream was bad or wasn't refrigerated?!!!!

After making a written reservation, we were offered a table that we (my wife, whose birthday it was that day, and I) didn't like at all. After asking if we could have a specific table with a view, we were told that they were understaffed and that, due to a lack of staff, no food would be served at that table. When it gets busy on Saturdays, no food is served there either. We were there on a Wednesday, and there were only four tables occupied. But that just shows that they don't want to make any money at all. Why they're so inflexible is beyond our comprehension. After we had two drinks, we left the restaurant, without eating, of course. Because my wife had obviously imagined a different birthday.

We made a spontaneous stop at the Schützenhaus on our way from the Green Hell – and it was a hit! The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive; even our dog was warmly welcomed and well looked after. The dinner was delicious and fresh, and with that stunning view – simply magnificent! A place to feel good, one we definitely recommend.

One of the best parts of Bernkastel-Kues. After a bit of a steep walk with many stairs, you’re greeted with friendly service, good food and breathtaking views. They have a nice wine selection, wide variety of food, indoor and outdoor seating. After a filling lunch you can choose to go back down into town or further up to the castle. The fish and chips were delicious.

Yes, a good seat with a view over Kues, the Moselle, and Bernkastel. Drinks were as they should be. We had one drink.

The Schützenhaus is a hidden gem above Bernkastel-Kues, beautifully situated and accessible via a beautiful hiking trail from the historic town or from Burg Landshut. Once at the top, a terrace awaits with a stunning view of the Moselle and the vineyards around Bernkastel-Kues—a reward in itself after the climb. We were warmly welcomed by the Dutch owner, who talked about the location with great enthusiasm. The terrace is spacious, relaxing and perfect for catching your breath. The menu offers a surprising mix of local dishes and worldly flavors, including even a rendang. We chose to focus entirely on the wine and enjoyed a Dr. Loosen Graacher Himmelreich and a Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese—both excellent. The wine list is an absolute plus: extensive and carefully compiled, with many bottles from renowned producers from the immediate area. For lovers of Moselle wine, this is a place to really sit down. Schützenhaus is a pleasant, peaceful place with unparalleled views, hospitable owners and a nice balance between food, wine and atmosphere. A real must-go for those who enjoy walking and enjoying themselves.

Here you can enjoy a picturesque view of the Moselle. Very attentive, quick and nice staff. We ate an asparagus cream soup that tasted very good but unfortunately wasn't very hot. The prices are at normal levels. You can definitely eat better and cheaper here than at Landshut Castle!

Nice view of the Moselle. We each had a winemaker's steak and we enjoyed it very much. Even though it was very busy we didn't have to wait very long for our food. The waitresses were very friendly.
