Schnitzelalm in Bad Hindelang

It feels like a mass-production operation. Dozens of different types of schnitzel! Despite registering, we had to wait about 15 minutes, but we were given a free drink at the bar. The staff was always friendly despite the pressure! Then the surprise: the schnitzels (2 per plate) tasted really good! The side dishes (fries, fried potatoes, etc.) were way too generous, though! Overall, it's delicious, inexpensive, cozy, and friendly. We'll be back! Update 2025: Now quite expensive, long wait, warm schnitzel, side dishes almost cold, plates not preheated, mushroom sauce unfortunately a mushroom-flavored roux with a few mushroom bits. The restaurant is also cold. I'm assuming there were changes in staff! So now only 3 stars!

We've been guests at the Schnitzel Alm every holiday for years. We were there today too; our grandchildren were looking forward to the special children's menu, which they could color in. Unfortunately, the service today was terrible. The waiter, Chris, didn't even think to bring the children a menu and pens. So we got them ourselves. Then we ordered... an extra plate and a children's portion of fries for our little 4-year-old granddaughter. When the food arrived, we were delighted; unfortunately, we didn't have enough cutlery, which he didn't even notice. We asked him if we could get cutlery, but he was already annoyed that he had to get something else. Then the bill came. He charged us €5.50 for the children's portion... which, according to the children's menu, is free... and €2 for the extra cover charge... When asked, he said that's just how it is, we hadn't said we wanted the free portion... what he should change, then turned around and left... We aren't used to this miserable service from your restaurant; we won't be visiting you again this year. Sincerely, U.P.

We ate there twice during our short vacation. We enjoyed the food both times, the service was good, and everything arrived quickly. What I have to point out, though, is the prices—not just here, but in every other restaurant as well—each dish starts at around €20. (Unfortunately, that's just how it is in a tourist area... 😕)

Unfortunately, only available with a reservation. We were immediately turned away, but then decided to have a round of beer outside on the bench of the restaurant on the main road. When we asked if we could stay on the bench and have something to eat, we were sent away again with the explanation that dining was only possible with a reservation. A real shame. We would have loved to eat there.

Today was our first time at the Schnitzelalm. The drinks and food were served quickly. The quality, especially the taste, didn't impress us. We would have expected more from a Schnitzelalm.

Super delicious, fresh schnitzels with tasty side dishes—definitely a must-visit if you're in the area. No reservation required, but I still recommend it. You'll need to allow a bit of time before you get anything to eat—at least half an hour to three-quarters of an hour. The portions are definitely plentiful.

Well...we were here a few times a few years ago and loved it. Now we came back and were really disappointed. Very expensive drinks! The breading on the schnitzels was soggy and not crispy at all. You have to like the curry flavor...the quantity was okay, though. Service could be improved. At some tables, the wrong food was served. Ours was also missing something. So, we won't be coming here again. There are much better places in the area.

The service was very friendly, and the menu is very extensive. I think everyone will find their favorite schnitzel here. Unfortunately, the food was ultimately run-of-the-mill for my taste and quite expensive for the quality. The portions are certainly filling. If you only want meat, this is the place for you. The service was always rather attentive. There was no friendly greeting, and you were more likely to be sent away if you didn't have a reservation. They ordered a small portion and delivered it, but charged for the large portion. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. Oh, and yes, the spaetzle were homemade. That was a positive.

Quantity over quality…The Kaiserschmarren comes out of a bag and the meat is as dry as a shoe sole.

We went to the Schnitzel Alm twice within four weeks. Unfortunately, we waited an hour for the food each time. The staff were obviously stressed but friendly. Unfortunately, my potato with the salad was still quite raw inside. The salad wasn't a highlight; it was just a green salad with two slices of tomato and cucumber, and about six strips of chicken breast on top. Schnitzel, fries, and spaetzle were average at best. Prices were rather expensive, as all the main courses came without salad.

Until recently, we really enjoyed eating there often. Sadly, we have to say that we won't be going there anymore. It was actually always worth a visit when the whole family was there. We really reconsidered the last three visits and gave it another chance each time. It took over an hour from the time we ordered until the food arrived at the table. The waiter didn't inform us. By chance, only the chef announced that there were problems. The service was unmotivated, annoyed, and even rude. On the last few visits, we were charged incorrectly for drinks. Today we were even charged for drinks that we ordered but never arrived at our table. The quality has also been getting worse for months. If the weather is good and the terrace is open, you should avoid visiting from the outset, as trouble is inevitable. We asked the waiter about it, and, as with the last few visits, he stuck to his opinion and wasn't willing to compromise. We also reported everything that was wrong and will probably not visit the restaurant again. It's a real shame what's happening with this.

Only *** after 5 stars two years ago. The food is at best average. You get full. The service is also only average. The outdoor ambiance is poorly maintained, and despite the rustic design, the tables could still use a wipe down after a change of guests. You can go there, but the very positive impression from two or three years ago is history.

We were seated at a completely broken, rotten table next to the kitchen exhaust fan in a dark corner, even though there were plenty of free tables available. The service and friendliness were absolutely abysmal and rude. "Warm welcome" doesn't look like much.

Overall, it was a decent visit. Unfortunately, a children's schnitzel wasn't credited and was the last dish to arrive. The schnitzels were all delicious, but the side dishes were generally not particularly special. The spaetzle lacked salt and were unfortunately very greasy; I suspect they used too much melted flour. The potato salad had a bit too much vinegar, and some of the potatoes were undercooked. The fries in the delayed dish showed that they had to be served in a hurry. It's a shame, because the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant promise true craftsmanship. Therefore, unfortunately, it doesn't get full marks.

The potato salad had too much vinegar and not enough salt and pepper, and there were also hard potatoes in between. The sauce was from a packet, but at €22.90, there's still room for improvement. Average food at a very ambitious price. The schnitzels are coated in a strangely spiced (curry?!) breading – a matter of taste – but it doesn't match the dish. In the end, we ended up paying €95 for three schnitzel dishes and four drinks – that's steep. The service was okay, but the location is showing its age. For beer drinkers – the 'Der Hirschbräu' served there is very bland.

We recently ate at your Schnitzelalm restaurant and ordered a schnitzel. When asked if we'd like a mixed salad with it, we agreed – however, it wasn't mentioned that it would be charged extra. The "schnitzel" bore little resemblance to a real schnitzel – it was more like thin, tough pieces, neither crispy nor juicy. Taste-wise, it was a complete disappointment. This was our last visit – what a shame! It was only on the bill that we saw that the salad was listed and charged separately. Had we been clearly informed beforehand that there would be an additional charge, we might have decided differently. We would therefore like to ask you to instruct your staff to clearly communicate such information in the future to avoid misunderstandings.

As a family (2 adults and 2 children), we were in excellent hands in the early afternoon. Special requests due to food intolerances were also accommodated. Good value for money, but not cheap.

The wait for the food was long, but the schnitzel was okay. We were very, very disappointed with the desserts, Nonnenfürzle (nunnary fur) and Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes). If you love Kaiserschmarrn, don't order this!

The three of us ate at the Schnitzelalm today, hoping for a pleasant outing, as I knew the restaurant from Füssen and had fond memories of it back then. Unfortunately, this time's visit couldn't live up to that. Despite the interior being only half full (the terrace was closed due to the weather), it took about 15 minutes for us to be noticed by the waiter. Ordering drinks was handled politely, but we had to ask for the menus ourselves. We weren't offered a children's menu – I discovered it later by chance. The food: We had the 30 cm schnitzel, a small turkey schnitzel, and a veal schnitzel. The portions seemed a little out of proportion – especially when comparing the large and small schnitzels. The fries were good, but the croquettes were significantly smaller. We found the breading to be inappropriately seasoned (slightly curry-like), and the schnitzels were quite greasy. The wait of about an hour for the food surprised us – especially for a restaurant specializing in schnitzel, we had expected a bit more speed. On the positive side, the cream sauce we ordered was very good. Service: The server was consistently friendly and, after initially overlooking us, regularly made an effort to attend to us. It was a shame that tipping wasn't possible with debit card payments – perhaps a more customer-friendly solution can be found. If the service had been friendly, I wouldn't have written that at all. We complained and warned so that other guests wouldn't get the spoiled salad. There was no apology or regret. Our friends had schnitzel and potato salad without seasoning. We had four meals and drinks. The service was unfriendly and cold. We weren't served outside and had to go inside. There were only a few more raindrops and there were umbrellas too. The service wasn't like that before, it was warm and friendly. We paid the full price, not at the table but outside at reception. I have no idea what the restructuring was, but it's not for me.

Whenever we're in the area, a visit to the Schnitzelalm is a must! A huge selection of schnitzels in all sizes and variations—there's truly something for everyone. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy, and the beer garden is especially inviting. Parking is a bit limited, but we've always managed to find a spot. We'd happily return!

Not recommended for sitting on the terrace in a pleasant atmosphere. The access steps are broken, leaves are still lying everywhere, and flowers from neglected flowerpots stand in the corner, looking like store-bought ones, blooming. The food was too monotonous. Our five schnitzels all tasted the same, like pepper and mustard, just with different sauces. It was OK to eat there once, but definitely not again.

Overall, our visit to the Schnitzel Alm was fine. The service was decent, and our various schnitzels were tasty. From a culinary perspective, it wasn't a particular highlight for us. However, we were bothered by the fact that it was quite dirty away from the dining tables. The restrooms are obviously showing their age and didn't seem particularly clean. The soap and paper towel dispensers in the men's restroom were empty, and the electric hand dryer didn't work. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it highly.

The ambiance was rather uncomfortable and dated. The value for money was not appropriate and rather outrageous (Aperol €9.70, regular-sized schnitzel from €22). However, the food arrived very quickly and was still decent, and the service was friendly. Based on the reputation and the prices, we were expecting something different and were disappointed.
