Excellent food and good service!

A very special treat. Great and exceptional food (only a few minor flavor outliers). Excellent wine, and the Aperol Schmidt's (it's really called that) is highly recommended. Very attentive service, but not intrusive. Fast service despite a small number of guests. After an appetizer and a main course, we were both very full, but we couldn't resist the dessert selection (the crème brûlée was a dream, but unfortunately very small). Not exactly cheap, but for us, it was a very successful evening. (Note: It would be good for the guests to remove one or two tables and put up some soundproofing. This might not be as bad for revenue as it seems at first glance.)

The wine selection was a dream for any wine lover. The atmosphere, thanks to the courtyard setting, was sheltered but relaxed. All in all, a great success. For years, Schmidt's has been a regular destination for special evenings – whether with friends, family, or for our very own milestone celebrations. With Olaf Kranz and his wonderful team, we've already had many wonderful moments at the restaurant – and we were absolutely thrilled every time. This time, however, was something truly special: For the first time, we brought Schmidt's catering to our own garden – and what can we say... it was incredible! Not only we, but all of our guests were completely enchanted. The service team – two true "garden spirits" – floated through the party with a naturalness and elegance, as if they had known the place forever. They were familiar with everything in no time and fulfilled our guests' every wish, often before they were even spoken. So friendly, competent, and accommodating – with a touch of magic that can't be described, but must be experienced. And the food? A poem, as always! Fine, sophisticated, full of flavor – typically Schmidt's. Our garden party was an unforgettable experience – thanks to a team that not only does its job, but also lives with true passion for hosting. From the bottom of our hearts: Thank you!

It was really quite excellent! Compilation of the menu, quality, taste, creativity! The staff, ambience and value for money were also great.

The restaurant is beautifully located in a large courtyard, so you can spend time there in peace. The service was always very friendly and accommodating, not intrusive, but very warm. You feel welcome and welcome. At lunchtime there is currently a “lunch deal” that is more than just okay in terms of price - value for money is right at Schmidt's. The food consists of regional and seasonal ingredients, and regional suppliers are supported. The quality is at a very high level! When it comes to drinks, a lot of attention is paid to regionality (Fritz), but here too some of the drinks are homemade (homemade lemonade is highly recommended). The portions aren't overly huge, so you'll feel full but not oversaturated. All in all, you feel very comfortable and get a taste experience here. You can park opposite and you will receive an exit chip from the restaurant. The restaurant is barrier-free and also has nice seating outside.

We received a voucher for our wedding and redeemed it in February of this year. We had wonderful food, the service was excellent. We felt very comfortable and will definitely visit Schmidts again!

Wir haben uns von Anfang an sehr wohl gefühlt. Der Service war rundum aufmerksam, freundlich und dennoch angenehm zurückhaltend – genau die richtige Balance. Das Essen war hervorragend: kreative Küche mit spannenden Kombinationen und einem hohen Anspruch an Qualität. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns die Liebe zum Detail – sowohl bei der Präsentation der Gerichte als auch im Ambiente. Ein Ort, an den man gerne zurückkehrt.

Like last time, everything was delicious!

Casual dining in Hellerau – the first German garden city "Schmidt's Restaurant" is closer to the airport than to the center of Dresden, but its exposed location in the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau building ensemble makes it a special destination. The arrival and departure by taxi from Neustadt train station can cost around €50, but there is also a tram connection. The detailed directions on the restaurant website should be positively highlighted. I still decided to take a ride because I find it difficult to walk from the stop in the dark and cold seemed inhospitable. The somewhat remote location has not seemed to deter any guest from visiting for 30 years - on the contrary. The stylish ambience, combined with the drive into the countryside, makes Hellerau a worthwhile destination. The guest room impresses with its simple elegance, which is both functional and inviting. What is particularly noteworthy, however, is the excellent service and the creative cuisine, which reinterprets classic dishes in an individual way. The clear, straightforward presentation of the food adds to the enjoyment. So it's no wonder that there are so many regular guests here. The seasonal menu is deliberately limited, but high quality. There is no requirement to have a menu, but you can easily put together four courses for around €70 (as of March 2025). Alternatively, an evening five-course menu is offered for an attractive €58. The wine list also impresses with an appealing selection at fairly calculated prices. When we visited in March, the “Kochsternstunden – KSS” was taking place, an annual event in which numerous restaurants take part with special offers. We opted for the four-course KSS menu for a reasonable €74. The €32 for the accompanying wines was also absolutely reasonable. Various types of bread with two variations of butter were served at the table setting - a pleasant, if unspectacular, start. The Pet Nat from the Matthias Schuh winery proved to be a suitable aperitif with mild perlage and pleasant freshness. The starter, "Cappuccino with Lamb's Tongue", was served in a soup plate, which meant that the name association with the Italian breakfast drink didn't quite come up. The lamb's tongue was pressed into a solid praline, which made its original shape unrecognizable - the taste was convincing, but a bit too acidic for me. The intermediate and main courses, however, presented themselves impeccably. The ingredients were harmoniously balanced and not at all seasoned too conservatively - a welcome deviation from the mainstream. The hearty Maultaschen were particularly pleasing, even if the dough could have had a little more bite for my taste. The dessert tasted good, even if it didn't offer enough contrast between sweet and sour, cold and warm and crumbly and crispy. Overall, the wine pairing was excellent, and it is pleasing that sweet wines are becoming increasingly popular with dessert. Conclusion: An all-round successful evening with a very good price-performance ratio. I can recommend Schmidt's with a clear conscience and can definitely imagine visiting again.

„Schmidt's Restaurant" liegt näher am Flughafen als am Zentrum von Dresden, doch seine exponierte Lage im Gebäudeensemble der Deutschen Werkstätten Hellerau macht es zu einem besonderen Ziel. Die An- und Abreise vom Bahnhof Neustadt kann mit rund 50 € ins Gewicht fallen, doch gibt auch eine Tramverbindung. Positiv hervorzuheben ist dazu die detaillierte Wegbeschreibung auf der Restaurant-Website. Ich habe mich dennoch für eine Mitfahrgelegenheit entschieden, da mir der Fußweg von der Haltestelle bei Dunkelheit und Kälte zu unwirtlich erschien. Der etwas abgelegene Standort scheint seit 30 Jahren keinen Gast vom Besuch abzuhalten – im Gegenteil. Das stilvolle Ambiente, kombiniert mit der Fahrt ins Grüne, macht Hellerau zu einem lohnenden Ziel. Der Gastraum überzeugt durch schlichte Eleganz, die sowohl sachlich als auch einladend wirkt. Besonders hervorzuheben sind jedoch der exzellente Service und die kreative Küche, die klassische Gerichte auf individuelle Weise neu interpretiert. Die klare, schnörkellose Präsentation der Speisen trägt zusätzlich zum Genuss bei. Kein Wunder also, dass sich hier viele Stammgäste einfinden. Das saisonale Speisenangebot ist bewusst überschaubar, aber niveauvoll. Es besteht kein Menüzwang, doch man kann sich problemlos vier Gänge für etwa 70 € (Stand: März 2025) zusammenstellen. Alternativ wird ein abendliches Fünf-Gang-Menü für attraktive 58 € angeboten. Auch die Weinkarte überzeugt mit einer ansprechenden Auswahl zu fair kalkulierten Preisen. Bei unserem Besuch im März fanden gerade die „Kochsternstunden – KSS“ statt, eine jährlich wiederkehrende Aktion, an der zahlreiche Gaststätten mit besonderen Angeboten teilnehmen. Wir entschieden uns für das KSS-Menü mit vier Gängen für günstige 74 €. Auch die 32 € für die begleitenden Weine waren absolut angemessen. Zum Gedeck wurden verschiedene Brotsorten mit zwei Buttervariationen serviert – ein angenehmer, wenn auch unspektakulärer Auftakt. Der Pet Nat vom Weingut Matthias Schuh erwies sich als passender Aperitif mit milder Perlage und angenehmer Frische. Die Vorspeise, „Cappuccino mit Lammzunge", wurde in einem Suppenteller serviert, wodurch die Namensassoziation zum italienischen Frühstücksgetränk nicht ganz aufkam. Die Lammzunge war in eine feste Praline gepresst, was ihre ursprüngliche Form unkenntlich machte – geschmacklich überzeugend, aber mir etwas zu säurelastig. Zwischen- und Hauptgang präsentierten sich hingegen tadellos. Die Zutaten waren harmonisch aufeinander abgestimmt und keineswegs zu zurückhaltend gewürzt – eine willkommene Abweichung vom Mainstream. Besonders erfreulich waren die deftigen Maultaschen, auch wenn der Teig für meinen Geschmack etwas mehr Biss hätte haben dürfen. Die Nachspeise war geschmacklich gelungen, auch wenn sie mir etwas zu wenig Kontraste zwischen süß-sauer, kalt-warm und mürb-kross bot. Die Weinbegleitung war insgesamt hervorragend abgestimmt, und es ist erfreulich, dass Süßweine zum Dessert zunehmend an Beliebtheit gewinnen. Fazit: Ein rundum gelungener Abend mit einem sehr guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Das Schmidt's kann ich guten Gewissens empfehlen und mir einen Wiederbesuch unbedingt vorstellen.

Hier kann man in einem tollen Ambiente Zeit verbringen und sich verwöhnen lassen. Leider entsprach die aktuelle Karte nicht ganz unserem Geschmack. Vom Shopangebot hatten wir uns ein wenig verleiten lassen und hofften z.B. auf den angepriesenen Schmidts Kloß! Den gab es aber leider nicht auf der Speisekarte. So waren wir etwas überfordert und in in Zeitdruck (wegen unseres Folgeevents). Am Ende entschieden wir uns für diverse Vorspeisen! Der Gruß aus der Küche war sensationell und extrem lecker und machte wieder Vorfreude. Der Lachs war super allerdings war die Wachtelbrust etwas stark übersäuert, was vermutlich an der Physalis lag. Diese hat leider allem anderen auf dem Teller keine Chance gelassen. Die Weinauswahl ist super. Was leider nicht für die Bierauswahl zutritt. Es gibt auch tolle Craftbiere in Dresden! Wer eine probierfreudige Küche mit allerlei Zutaten sucht ist hier genau richtig! Wir leider nicht! Sorry

Das Restaurant Schmidt hat uns von Anfang bis Ende begeistert. Das Essen war einfach vorzüglich – man spürt, dass der Koch hier mit Liebe und Leidenschaft am Werk ist. Jedes Gericht war nicht nur geschmacklich ein Genuss, sondern auch optisch ein wahres Kunstwerk. Die Weinempfehlung war hervorragend, der Service ausgesprochen professionell und aufmerksam. Jeder Wunsch wurde uns erfüllt, ohne dass wir uns jemals bedrängt fühlten. Die Location ist einmalig und schafft eine wunderbare Atmosphäre, die zum Verweilen einlädt. It was a real treat! I hadn't been to Schmidt's in a very long time and was happy about a friend's suggestion. The restaurant may be a little out of town, but the Hellerauer Werkstätten is a beautiful area and well connected. In any case, the location was very well attended. We chose the 5-course menu with best regards from the kitchen. Otherwise it would have been difficult for me to make a choice. Service very good as usual. Clear recommendation if you want to treat yourself to something.

The two of us were in Schmidt's restaurant at the beginning of October. We got the recommendation from a friend and we were looking for something special. It really was the latter. The location in Hellerau, in the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau ensemble building, is very beautiful and remarkable. The location is not very big, but it is very tastefully decorated and it is always better if you reserve your seats in advance. The restaurant is relatively easy to reach by car. The parking lot is on the other side of the street and is secured by barriers. You get a chip in the restaurant for the exit. The space is definitely sufficient. You will receive a friendly welcome in the restaurant and you should take a look at the wall on the right, because the daily menu is there. But you can also sit down first and study the menu, which is very clear in terms of the dishes. If there isn't enough on the menu, just take your cell phone and take a photo of the wall with the daily specials and then choose what you like. The surprise menu with 5 courses was very successful, which certainly changes depending on the day. What you are served is very appealing and the palate can enjoy even more. All of this has its price, but it is really justified. All in all, you can enjoy something special here that you certainly don't get every day.

Absolute favorite restaurant. Perfect for people who want to try out fine dining but don't want to dig deep into their pockets. Extremely relaxed but very professional atmosphere. Price performance top. Even significantly better than in many star restaurants. Special requests are also taken into account as a matter of course. The outdoor terrace is nice and quiet and allows you to enjoy the evening in a relaxed manner even when the temperatures are warm. Big plus point: We don't take ourselves too seriously and we communicate with our guests on an equal footing. I'd be happy to come back at any time. Big recommendation.

The food was absolutely delicious, the service charming. It was a set menu, which was carefully thought out and full of punchy flavours. The place is in a slightly strange area, but very interesting and with some old ‘werkstaette’ there which are now craft workshops.

Fantasievoll, sehr ansprechend arrangiert, deliziös und mit der passenden Weinbegleitung ein tolles, außergewöhnliches Geschmackserlebnis. Das Basilikumsorbet im Dessert … köööstlich, um nur Eines zu nennen. Sehr, sehr freundliche und auch mal zu Scherzen aufgelegte Bedienung.

We wanted to have lunch here. The service person scolded us very rudely. They have to rearrange themselves at the moment and so there are currently no seats, even though over half of the tables were empty. We would have had an understanding and had something to drink first. Never experienced anything like this before.

As a service provider, I was able to enjoy the location and the outstanding cuisine. Top level.

This was the second time I had lunch with my girlfriend and it was a feast! Everything is super organized - yes, you sit longer than in the canteen, but it tastes excellent. Really hardly any difference to the slightly more expensive dinner at Schmidts! The service is also just as friendly and accommodating. I find the good mood of the employees particularly positive! Unfortunately, that's rare, but somehow everyone here has found the right job and the right restaurant for it. The food tastes twice as good.

The restaurant is a culinary highlight in Dresden's restaurant landscape with gourmet potential that definitely justifies the high prices. Particularly noteworthy is the use of exclusively regional products and their excellent workmanship and tasteful preparation and presentation. The range of wines on offer is respectable and the wine recommendations given for the dishes demonstrate the professional competence of the service staff. It is also good that the guest is given the opportunity to express a special request for the preparation of the food, e.g. the consistency, the cooking level, etc. However, the guest should be made aware of this option when ordering. It is recommended to reserve your place in good time.

It was my second experience with fine dining and I absolutely loved it. Every walk was an experience. Each dish had completely different notes and yet it all fit together as a whole. I really enjoyed combining the individual components of each course so that I could taste something new every time. If I really have to criticize something, it's that I felt more "cared for" in my first experience. My glasses were constantly filled without me even having to touch a bottle. This time I had to pour it myself. However, I was able to forget this terrible experience with the next course, so 5 stars for everything. This is what I was hoping for fine dining and will definitely come back.

Freundliches und kompetentes Servicepersonal, Reservierung empfohlen,es gibt ein einen " Lunch-Deal" (Vorspeise oder Dessert + Hauptgericht +Espresso) für absolut gerechtfertigte Euro 19,50. Wöchentlich wechselnde Karte und zusätzlich täglich drei Hauptgerichte. Wildkräuterschaumsuppe mit frischen Spitzmorcheln, ein großartiges Geschmackserlebnis, das Bärlauchrisotto mit Radieschen, Kohlrabi, Walnüssen und mariniertem Babyspinat hatte eine wunderbar "schlotzige" Konsistenz und eine schöne Geschmackskomposition. Große Auswahl an offenen Weinen. Historisch interessanter Ort. Zu Fuß nach circa 20 Minuten (1,2km) ab Straßenbahnhaltestelle Moritzburger Weg gut zu erreichen.

Das essen war sehr lecker! Frisches zubereitet mit Lieb und das Überraschungsmenü ist einfach köstlich! Die Suppe hat zwar ein bisschen wenig, könnte aber mehr sein!

Es war wieder mal ein sehr schöner Abend. Die Damen sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen ein Genuss. Wir hatten das Überraschung 5 Gang Menü👌. Auch wurde nach no Go’s und Allergien gefragt. Besser geht es wirklich nicht. Vielen Dank an Olaf Franz und sein freundliches Team.🌸

We had a wonderful evening with excellent food. There was a menu and other all-la-cart dishes. The dry aged rump steak was a delight and the jus that went with it was very intense and went well with the meat...a dream. We'd love to come back.

Wir durften im Schmidts einen außergewöhnlichen Abend verbringen. Das 8 Gang Überraschungsmenü war der absolute Wahnsinn. Auch der Service war locker, freundlich und äußerst zuvorkommend. Wir danken Olaf Kranz und seinem Team für diesen Herrlichen Abend. Schöne Ostern und weiterhin ein tolles Geschäftsjahr wünschen das Genuß Trio.

Great meal -!!!- Meat perfectly prepared, regional ingredients, exquisitely well prepared, in surprising combinations, spicy taste - a special kind of culinary delight, harmonious down to the last detail! Wir hatten das 5-Gänge Überraschungsmenü mit Weinbegleitung ausgewählt. Dies war sehr gut zusammengestellt und schmackhaft. Auch die dazu ausgesuchten Weine passten perfekt zum Menü. Es stimmt alles! sowohl der Service als auch das Essen waren toll. Wir haben uns von einem Menü das das Restaurant zusammengestellt hat überraschen lassen. Wir waren nicht enttäuscht.

Wir hatten das Restaurant über einen MDR-Beitrag kennengelernt. Da wir einen Tagesausflug nach Dresden geplant hatten, bot sich ein Besuch von Schmidt's Restaurant an. Mein Frau hatte ein Steinbeisserfilet à la carte und ich einen Kloß mit Kalbfleischfüllung (Mittagsmenü). Beide Gerichte waren hervorragend und zusammen mit den Vorspeisen (Suppe und warmer Ziegenkäse) und dem Espresso ein fantastisches Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Wir erlebten wieder ein kulinarisches Highlight im Schmidts. Trotz full House, konnten wir die einzelnen Gänge unseres Menüs ohne große Wartezeit genießen. Jeder einzelne Gang war sehr schmackhaft und wunderschön auf dem Teller angerichtet. Der Pulpo als Vorspeise ein Gedicht. Die Bouillabaisse als Zwischengang sehr lecker. Der Saibling sehr fein gewürzt und mit leichten Beilagen ergänzt. Die Krönung war das Schokoladentörtchen zum Desert.
