In the book I just started reading, Check Point Charlie by Luca Cozzi, the Italian protagonist Nick La Torre goes to eat with his German ex-girlfriend. For this reason alone I can't wait to go and try it. They also talk about it well in the book I have been living in Berlin for 20 years. I had heard about it, but never been there! Now I have no more excuses....

Great, centrally located beer garden. Especially in summer, it's wonderful to sit in the countryside, sometimes right by the water. Although there are plenty of spaces, it can get crowded even during the week.

A very nice beer garden near the Zoo train station. Nice atmosphere and from past experience, nice to visit in summer, especially in the evenings. The food and drinks are beer garden-like, but the staff were on their toes when clearing up and the food is delivered to the table. Always recommended for a visit.

Very nice beer garden right on the canal. Very good selection of drinks and food. Friendly and attentive staff. Open from 11:00 a.m. for a lunch excursion. The ambience is also very good, typical beer garden as you would imagine. There is enough space for groups and reservations are also possible. Small point deduction for the toilet facilities due to smell. Thanks to the whole team. Gladly again at any time.

Yes, now in the preseason. Often crowded in summer and queues for self-service. Everything was very clean today!

Great location, unfortunately sometimes very noisy because people are often doing work or cleaning there. Kindl on tap takes a bit of getting used to. Excursion boats in the lock sometimes emit diesel exhaust fumes.

Very generous portions, horseradish was so intense, cranberries were delicious, schnitzel was tasty

Wonderful. Stopped at the Schleusenkrug while out for a walk, lured by the apple strudel on the menu, which lived up to its promise. Service friendly to both humans and dogs, the ambiance nostalgic and, as I learned from the menu, historic. I'd love to go again.

Very nice restaurant with a large outdoor area right on the water with a view of a lock. Ideal to rest from the big city, 5 minutes walk from the train station. Very friendly staff. Gladly again.

We’ve ordered Spinatknödel, Schnitzel Wiener Art and Apple Strudel - big portions and sooo tasty 😃 Also, there are several vegetarian options available. The place is pet friendly! Perfect place to drink a good beer in the park and eat something at lunch 🥳

Nice old-school restaurant in a beautiful quiet location near the zoo and Bahnhof Zoo. Friendly service. Delicious homemade apple strudel and coffee.. Worth repeating.

To just have a coffee or mulled wine, like we did, that was good. The cake also tasted very good. This is highly recommended in summer

Friendly cafe with delicious food The café has a very friendly staff and attentive waiters. The food is not only very tasty, but also surprisingly beautifully prepared. The location is ideal – right in the city center, in the immediate vicinity of the zoo and right next to a park. The toilets are clean, which I really appreciate. Everything would be perfect if not for one small minus point: the interior could use a renovation to make it even more cozy and welcoming. Overall, a highly recommended café!

I was there on January 1st, I couldn't enjoy the beer garden but the inside was absolutely warm and welcoming. The view of the Tier Garten is also beautiful. I liked it. Good, genuine food, impeccable service

It's a really nice location - but I'm always disappointed with the food. The currywurst with potato wedges for over 12 euros...and the potato wedges were cooked very soft and had barely been put in the pan. Better just have a drink here.

Felt at home immediately. The service workers were kinda and spoke great English. Food was incredible, but they do not have togo plates sadly.

We were here in Dec, excellent food, ambience and service. Can only imagine how good it would be on a sunny day in the bier garten.

We had a delicious meal in the best weather and can recommend this gem.

I came there with a larger group of 25 people, was the second person to order pumpkin soup and was the last to receive the order after everyone had almost finished or had already finished eating, even though the order had already been taken at the checkout. Only when I asked again was a lukewarm vegetable soup delivered, which didn't taste particularly good. The food from the others didn't look bad, but definitely not recommended because of the service and unfriendliness!!

When tourists happened to pass by, we stopped in and enjoyed a very good ginger tea with a piece of good cold dog. It's only a few minutes' walk from the Zoo train station, which you should take.

I didn't like the homemade apple strudel at all, and I didn't like the cappuccino either. I can't comment on the other food and drinks. I think the Schleusenkrug is a suitable place to go for a walker in the zoo who wants to take a break, but not to eat delicious food. The location is very good on the Landwehr Canal in the Tiergarten. There are also places outside.

Unfortunately not suitable for a quick coffee outside in the sun, at least if you like French: there are a variety of fatty cakes, but no croissant, no cinnamon roll, nothing at all. Poor performance these days.

A quaint restaurant on a boat by the river. I tried a very traditional Berlin dish - LABSKAUS which is corned beef, fried egg, pickled herring, beets and potatoes. Not what expected for dinner but it was quite filling.

One of the city's beer gardens. Centrally located but surrounded by greenery, the Schleusenkrug has been a fixture in Berlin for decades. If you want to take a break after visiting the zoo, this is the place for you.

Sit outside on a golden autumn day, enjoy the sun and watch children and pensioners. Well organized self service and food is brought to the table. The difference to the café at the new lake? Much more relaxed and normal and lots of nice people.

We were on a Sunday after a tour of the market, it was busy but we didn't wait in line. The food looked delicious, we drank beer. A restaurant inside the park, with seating facing the river. shady and pleasant

We were there as part of a group and were able to order from the food and drink selection using a small card and a number on it (payment on account). Unfortunately, only the main house was included, not the shed 10m away. It's a shame that I was first sent there and told it would work and then was told it couldn't be done. Better knowledge of the staff employed would have been helpful. Food was mediocre. Ordered and brought to the table less than 5 minutes later. Very simple quick meal. Grill wasn't open. Little waiting time when ordering. Self-service for food and drinks. Toilet without the possibility to dry your hands.

We tried the Mediterranean Pizza and the truth is that it is very good and at a good price. With some good local beers, the pizza is enough for two people.

The food was very delicious and authentic, servers spoke english and were very cute, the food also came early and hot!! Recommend the currywurst and schnitzel, 10/5!

We use the last beautiful late summer days to enjoy a well-kept Allgäuer Büble in the beer garden on the Landwehr Canal. Great ambience with Berlin air.

Schöner Biergarten - mit vielen kleinen charmanten Ebenen. Essen wird an den Tisch gebracht, Getränke müssen zwar abgeholt werden, doch der Service ist schnell, sehr nett und gut.

Classic beer garden inside the Tiergarten. Very youthful atmosphere although you can find people of all ages. It is very nice but also a very relaxing place that acquires more charm in the evening, when lit. It has several beers and a decent eating menu. Good baked potatoes, average beer.

The rhubarb spritzer was very tasty.
