The idli and sambar here was not good Super spicy sambar and mini idlis wher not good Dosa was good Compared to other outlets of same franchise- i did not like their food

The Indian food was perfect. Although vegetarian, I didn't miss anything as a meat-eater. Keep it up!

The food seems very authentic, and there are many Indian guests. The dishes are different from those in other Indian restaurants; for example, there are many linden pancakes with various fillings. Only vegetarian/vegan dishes are offered. Therefore, I'm only giving the food 4 stars, although it could easily be 5. Not all the waiters speak German, and some speak English with a very strong accent.

The ghee roast dosa and masala dosa were good. The service was rude and unfriendly (especially from the young man). We don't expect staff to bow down to guests, but it was very disappointing that plates were cleared without asking. The men's toilet was a mess.

Food service okay. When we visit Saravana chain hotels across Europe they don’t serve drinking water which is available free from tap. There is no Basic ethics of serving water that too being an Indian restaurant.

One of the worst places I've ever dined: a completely unseasoned, tough salad with carrot slices a centimeter thick and five centimeters in diameter, so much so that not even a horse could have eaten them. A dessert as bland and cloying as it was sweet, almost inedible. The waitresses were gracious and kind, but only spoke English. The price was too high for the quality of the food and the standard of the place. Overall, the quality was terrible compared to the Indian restaurants I've dined at in recent days while traveling through the Moselle Valley. An experience to absolutely avoid!!!

A deeply disappointing and unprofessional experience. I visited this restaurant today (22.10.2025) with my wife and daughter. Despite the restaurant being almost empty, we were shown to a small table placed right at the entrance. When I politely requested a table in the quieter back area, the waitress reluctantly agreed — only to insist that we must sit at a cramped table for three, even though several larger tables were completely unoccupied. When asked if those tables were reserved, she clearly said no, yet refused to let us sit there, stating that “tables for four are not for three guests.” Such inflexibility and lack of common sense are astonishing in a hospitality setting. It was less about policy and more about a lack of basic customer service understanding. To avoid embarrassing her in front of the few remaining guests and my young daughter, we decided to leave. I returned shortly after to speak with the manager, only to be told — rather unconvincingly — that the same waitress was the manager. She then refused to give her name. Refusing to identify oneself after behaving this way is not only unprofessional but also highly suspicious. Having visited multiple Saravana Bhavan branches worldwide, I am well aware of the brand’s standards of service, professionalism, and courtesy. This incident falls dramatically short of them. Allowing someone with such an attitude to represent the brand at the front line is a serious management failure. If this individual truly holds a managerial position, immediate retraining or disciplinary action should be considered. If not, the management should be made aware that this employee’s conduct severely damages the restaurant’s reputation and undermines customer trust.

We were truly impressed with the service and especially the food. We'll be back.

It was a shame that they didn't have the sarvana bhavan thali nor the mini meal which the speciality of the restaurant. A true South indian would be really disappointed trust me and when asked they are giving the option of North Indian thali audacity to see this really disappointed. Very disappointed as they have stopped serving properly south indian food on weekdays. Being a South indian food restaurant north indian dishes options were more. Very disappointed!

Had a really great experiece of their hospitality. The staff is very kind and helping. I forgot to collect the bill and they help me to retive the bill next day.

⭐️⭐️ This was our first visit to Saravana Bhavan in Cologne, and honestly, it was very disappointing compared to the authentic taste we know from Chennai. The food simply doesn’t live up to the name. Noodles were an utter waste with full oil. Poori was also a waste. Baby corn Manchurian was the worst ever will full oil. Even the dosa wasn’t really good. I don’t understand how people keep visiting this place — maybe just for the name and the atmosphere. But if you are expecting the real Saravana Bhavan taste from India, especially Chennai, you will be let down.

I ordered masala dosa and it was tasty with an optimum blend of the spices. But hospitality wasn't that great and have room for improvement.

Very, very tasty, authentic Indian food. The staff were also very accommodating. I only waited 10 minutes for my food on a quiet day. However, it is relatively expensive. For a truly Indian experience, it's definitely the place to go. I'd go back anytime!

I stopped by as i was craving some nice decent food. There were a lot of Indians eating which i thought could be a good sign. Garlic naan was excellent. Rice was so so, no taste a Palak Paneer - well …way too salty and something didnt match the taste … Plus the service and staff never smile and one feels there like a burden. Hello…. I was by today by Saravana Bhavan, first of all I want to say the food was really good. But when it comes to Service I had the worst experience of all. I first got sat to the table and the server girl comes to take the order, while taking the order she leaves in the middle way to talk to her collegues. Once again she comes back without any apologies and then I had to explain the order again to her. But the worst part is at the end when I wanted to order some dessert, I ask for the menu card to the same girl. But instead of giving the menu card to hand or keeping it on our table, she choose to keep the menu on the table next to us and leave like she had so much to do. But I saw that the restaurant was half filled and was going easy. Then looking at this behaviour, we choose to leave without any desserts. Then I got to know from one of the other server that the name of the girl who served us was Smita. All I want to say is we just expected some basic behaviour and customer service. If you improve that then I guess Saravan Bhavan Cologne would be standing at the top.

I've been there twice for lunch now, and I really like it. I'm no expert, but they serve fairly authentic (South) Indian dishes. It's entirely vegetarian, which is good if you don't always want to eat meat.

Don’t come here for an authentic S.Indian experience (and i know what i mean- i lived 12 years in Chennai, then Dubai and was a frequent visitor). We ordered plain dosa and the guy gave us a paper dosa roast saying it is plain dosa. And on top of it the waiters were quite ‘non understanding’. The elderly cook from the kitchen had to come to understand things better (hats off to him and his personality). Besides the food, the toilets and wash area downstairs was ridiculous stating poor housekeeping and administration! Torn tissues on the floor and basin. The closet room didn’t even have tissues!! And the lock was really loose!(see pics!) Persobally i travelled with visiting family who came from India and i claimed this to be authentic. I ended up being disgraced and had to applogize to them for brining them here.

We had a disappointing experience. Few items were stale - just heated and served. We ordered Mysore masala dosa which had onion chutney spread on the dosa ! So not authentic. Goes to show that Saravana Bhavan is steadily declining in terms of quality. And as one of the reviewers mentioned, they simply don't seem to care. Don't go with high expectations !

Everything was great. It is a must try especially if you are a vegeterian. Lots of different options to choose from. My favorite is definitely the drink, Mango lassi. As food, the ones in the pictures were great!

It’s a renowned food chain coming from India, the restaurant here in Köln is decent. The food is good in both taste and portion. Mini idlis are something nice to try, however, Lassi and Paneer 65 are not up to the mark at all. Dosa’s and Uttapam’s are good with nice variety of chutney’s. The outdoor seating during summertime is nice add on.

I recently visited Saravanaa Bhavan in Köln and was blown away by the food! The Cheese Podi Masala Dosa was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced, while the Madras Filter Coffee was rich and aromatic. The ambiance is good, and the service is great. Highly recommend this place for authentic South Indian cuisine!

The food was too spicy, unfortunately not mentioned on the menu. We would have liked more to drink, but there was no service. No one even came to pay. We went inside to pay. Other guests had the same experience.

We walked into Saravanaa Bhavan in Cologne with high hopes, having enjoyed meals at several of their branches in India and Australia. Unfortunately, this visit was far from what we expected. Right from the doorstep, there was a noticeable lack of hospitality. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, the staff appeared disinterested and the service felt cold. What added to our disappointment was that most of the rice-based dishes were only available on weekends. In the end, we were so disheartened by the overall atmosphere and limited menu that we left without placing an order. We truly hope this branch brings its standards up to match the quality and warmth we’ve come to associate with the Saravanaa Bhavan name.

Nice: -chutneys are tasty, -sambhar is nice and -vada was excellent- crispy, not oily, though could have used some salt. -Service was fast - filter coffee was excellent- right milk, right coffee and right sugar Not nice: -it was 11: 00 am, the start time for the restaurant and the washrooms had not been cleaned. - rava onion masala dosa was bad- it was served burnt- charcoal black. It was very oily and I could taste the bad oil, it was clear that overheating was done but they still served it anyway. The dosa dough had lots of cashews and onion and dhaniya- which is a shame that it went waste because of being burnt and the bad oil used. The aloo masala was almost pasty and bad tasting. Wish they had not ruined the dosa and I could have given a higher rating. Also, I don’t know if they have option for 300 ml Coca Cola, coz I didn’t look at menu and ordered and got a 500 mL one which was too big for me.

Good food and kitchen manager discussing the food quality shows he’s interested in reviewing and promoting quality food. However the service needs complete schooling. A guy in blue jeans nonchalantly offering a table haphazardly by pulling it and asking to sit shows rudeness and unworried details to the sevice. The menu they offed was uncleaned and greasy. The premise is not clean and the washroom’s smelling and dirty. Also, it’s not allowed to charge phones here. Terrible customer service experience.

South Indian Special meal is average, the rice was not even fully boiled, semi boiled. The ambience was not that good. Too much pricey for such an average meal. Not worth it.

Finally a good Dosa and good Sambhar in Germany

I went there for lunch with my friends yesterday. The food was delicious, the service was good, and overall we had a really nice time. We would definitely go back!

I visited the restaurant yesterday with my family and friends. We thought it might not be crowded, but it was actually quite busy. Despite the rush, there was only one waiter, Diksha, managing everything — and she did an excellent job. She handled the crowd calmly, gave us great service, and made sure we had a smooth and enjoyable meal. Really impressed with her effort and great food.

Disgusting Food , Disgusting Behavior of the staff

Inhumane behavior by the staff. We asked if we could use the restroom for a fee, as my girlfriend was having circulatory problems and simply wanted to splash some cold water on her face. We had to ask four employees first, as none of them were sure whether such a thing could be "allowed." In the end, we were arrogantly turned away – not humane behavior!

I rarely write negative reviews, but this place truly deserves it. They seem to have forgotten that customer service is just as important as the food. I will definitely not be coming back and don’t recommend this restaurant to anyone who expects even basic respect and hospitality. Overall atmosphere was uncomfortable, mainly because of how unwelcoming the staff made it feel.

I thought Saravanaa Bhavan Cologne was a place for humans to dine in but i didnt know rats also come out to dine in. Was shocked to see rats roaming inside the restaurant tables. Didnt eat the food, payed and got out of there before getting some infections. Will never go back.

We were travelling Europe and our lunch was fixed in this restaurant. Our tour manager send us link of this restaurant and told if we give 5 star review then they will provide free tea or coffee after lunch.Most of our member send review but they refused to give coffee or tea saying that they have limited option. They can give15 tea or coffee. Our one group member said he will post bad reviews then counter person named sameer started showing muscle and started challanging our member. His behaviour was very rough. Don't recommend any body to go there. They are creating fake reviews.

As a South Indian family recently moved to Germany, spotting Saravana Bhavan in Köln gave us a wave of nostalgia and excitement, we were truly craving some good South Indian food. Unfortunately, the experience left us very disappointed. We ordered Masala Dosa and Rava Masala Dosa, both of which were below average. The Rava Masala Dosa was especially bad, it was undercooked and lacked the crispy texture you'd expect. The Masala Dosa was bland and surprisingly lacked even basic seasoning like salt. The potato filling was tasteless. Not sure if we just picked a bad day, but given the brand name and our high hopes, the quality was shocking. For a chain known worldwide for authentic South Indian food, this branch failed to deliver. Sadly, we won’t be going back. Just 1 star from us.

Only good thing about the restaurant is the outdoor seating. Absolutely tasteless food. Cannot even call it bland. Ordered idly, veg manchurian and paneer fried rice. I wouldn’t eat this food in a prison. Unluckily, in an attempt to find the restroom, I detoured and ventured into the staff area. To my utter disgust, it was infested with rats. Never would I do this, but I do not recommend this restaurant at all, unless they realise they’re serving food to humans. Saravanaa Bhavan team: Please understand that I do not have any personal grudge against you to post this review. Really feel you should instil some values and strive to get better.

We're from the Netherlands and had a wonderful meal here at Saravanaa Bhavan in Cologne – it was even better than in Amsterdam! The food was delicious, authentic, and fresh. The owners are incredibly warm and friendly – you can immediately tell it's made with love. The staff are also simply fantastic: attentive, friendly, and with a smile. Thank you for this wonderful experience – we'll be back!
