I just wonder why people give more than 3 stars. We had the worst ever food, and I must say that the worst restaurant branch of world's no.1 indian restaurant. Asked for schezwan Chutney and got Chili powder in ketchup🙏🙏

As usual, excellent food and service.

The food itself is really good and I have no complaints about it. However, the service can be expanded. We were there with five people. The first three main courses came very quickly, the starter only when the first three had almost finished eating and the last two main courses a little later. At the same time, the drink orders took a very long time and when we asked, we were told accusingly that we hadn't ordered anything yet. When the drinks came when we had almost finished, they tried to force us out and reallocate the table without giving us the chance to finish the drinks in peace.

Had expectations like the one in Rome, but this one was a disappointment and disaster. The meals were just average and channa Batura was just not eatable. Dosa was average and the chutneys were tasteless Give it a miss if you are looking for Indian food

Worst preparation of food,rotis are so thick and unevenly baked.In paneer butter masala curry, lot of turmeric powder is added. Though I am from India I don't recommend this hotel for tourists like me.Wash room is stinky.No toilet paper at all in the toilet.Ambience is very average . Totally not a good experience in this restaurant

Dosa was too much tasty in germany köln .dosa was five sterne. But the gulabjamun quality was very bad not fresh not soft and service was too much bad and tissue availablity is poor . But quality of dosa is good . Please improve ur food quality which is not ur specialitat. Went 2 days in a row, disappointed heavily with food and service there. First day tried Schzewan mushroom and paneer butter cheese - both had almost same fillings and there was no sign of schzewan in named dosa. Next day decided to skip south indian and go for north, malai kofta and veg jal frieze both had exactly same curry with same lime acidic taste and same color yellowish green. I would have expected malai kofta to have orangish curry and sweet taste. Overall disappointed big time. Maybe they are better with basic dosa and idly only.

Food was yummy, service was also very fast. We enjoyed our evening here.

Very Good South Indian Meals. Sambhar and Puli Kulambhu was excellent. The Poori and Curry was too good Compare to other HSB in Brussels and The Hague. Please maintain the taste.

Authentic South Indian cuisine. If you are looking for a restaurant where it really tastes like India, you will find it here. This can also be seen from the fact that (at the time of my first visit) around 85% of the guests present were Indian. Top food, at top prices. I'd love to come back and bring my friends with me. The dish was extremely spiced because they added a lot of spicy oil sauce on top of the meal. Because of that, we couldn’t feel the taste of each meal. We even weren't asked for the level of spiciness we wanted. The service level is very poor. Just waste of time and money.

Disappointed after our visit yesterday. The dosas were ordered were served cold, the service was terrible. The atmosphere in the restaurant was rather jaded. The taste of the food was decent if you are craving a dosa but I wouldn't return in a hurry.

The manager claims to be an Indian but he is clearly not and he don't allow Indians inside. To me and my friends he said that you are troublemakers and this was the first time we went to this restaurant. He said the same to two other guys just before us. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. NEVER WAS TURNED AWAY FROM A GERMAN RESTAURANT LIKE THIS.

Good food, okay prices good service and beautiful surrounding and atmosphere. I really like the food. It was also by the pricing very okay for central cologne. The drinks are pretty expensive, but this is also normal for central cologne They have a huge menu with many different items and the spice level is good. Normally when you eat Indian cuisine in Europe it’s not that spicy this one’s perfect. The interior is pretty beautiful and modern and when you sit outside, you have a beautiful look on the heumarkt It’s a specially nice if there is any event going on. The stuff is very nice, and even when the restaurant was packed, they served me pretty fast so it’s a good place to go if you are hungry don’t want to eat fast food . Thought they noticed that many people from the Indian Pakistani community eat in this restaurant so it must be at least decent .

The food is good but place is overcrowded. My go to dishes have always been masala dosa, ghee dosa, mysore masala dosa or medu vada. Loved them. The Saravanaa Bhavan Koln is way better than Berlin.

An indian friend brought me to this restaurant to try out the Masala Dosa and I loved it. We're regular customers since then. I always take a curry or bryani as take away for the next day and these dishes are very delicious as well. The staff is very friendly. The location very central

Very tasty food, we were there at lunchtime and it wasn't too crowded. The food was brought quickly and everything was very tasty.

My wife and I had dinner here and had stomach pains and nausea that same evening. It was definitely the food. The waitress was very friendly and the service was also good. Unfortunately the food didn't convince us. We both come from Sri Lanka and know Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine very well. We've already tried and tasted different things. We would prefer Ceylon Curry in Leverkusen. Try this out. It is worth it ..

I don't have a single reason to give 4 instead of 5 stars!! It was one of my best experiences for Indian cuisine in Germany !! The restaurant is sufficiently big enough and due to its too good service it is crowded at times ... I'll suggest one may reserve the table prior... The food quality and the taste is just mouthwatering....... Having a huge rush food was served in minimal time...which is really appreciable!! Also the staff is kind. I did like the outside sitting arrangements.... it's too good in summer 😇😍 One shall surely visit Saravana Bhavan if you wanna try Indian cuisine.........specifically south Indian

I recently visited Sharavana Bhavan, and while the food was OK, the service was absolutely terrible. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the staff lacked basic common sense and proper training. Despite there being plenty of free tables, the waiter insisted that our party of three occupy a table meant for two. When we pointed out that we needed more space, our concerns were completely ignored. When our food arrived, it quickly became apparent that there wasn’t enough room on the table to accommodate all the dishes. In the middle of our meal, we were abruptly moved to another table. This table was also insufficient, and soon after, we were asked to move yet again. This constant shifting was intolerable and ruined our dining experience.

They serve frozen food which is overpriced especially for the portions. The only vegetables you will see in your food is peppers. Completely unprofessionally managed as well.

Good location, food was tasty but too spicy although asked for mild, had to order extra sweets at the end, table was missing napkins, and space was clustered but overall that food was good and they had a nice music soundtrack. Server was very kind!

The food was excellent. I would give it 4stars because it was a bit too oily. I am hoping in my next visit the oiliness is less. The staff was really friendly. She was courteous and polite explained to us about the difference between dishes. Special shout out to this staff Ms Anjaly. Additionally, the manager who was young not old person mentioned in the other reviews was really good. I hope that in our next visit we get the same people or someone who has same characteristics of being a good front of staff. We would go again in future for sure.

For someone who loves South Indian food, this is the place to go. Food was great and met my expectations, however they could seriously improve the ambience. Loud music is very irritating and they could do away with that. Overall great place to eat in terms of taste, not quite the ambience though.

The food was cold, tasteless and very expensive. What really shocked me was that the plate (vegetable biryani) wasn't decorated, just a bit of yoghurt and onions, you get the feeling of being in prison and then it also costs €15. An outrage! This restaurant should be closed immediately. Pure nonsense!

Rude staff specifically Babloo. They ignore customers intentionally which causes delay and frustration.

I ordered channa bhatura one day and mushroom rogan josh another day with aloo parantha and kulcha. The gravy used for channa masala and mushroom curry was the same. Aloo parantha was good but everything else was mediocre ( tea, kulcha, bhature and both the curries). The size of the bhatura was way tooo big. Overall okay okay. Also hygiene wise, don’t use the washrooms!!!

The restaurant offers an interesting mix of authentic cuisine and fast service, but still has room for improvement. As soon as we entered we were greeted warmly and shown straight to a free table without a reservation, which made us very happy. The service was surprisingly quick. As soon as we placed our order, our drinks and the first dish were on the table in less than five minutes. The kitchen works really quickly. Unfortunately, there is one big disadvantage: the dishes arrive one after the other. This means that one is already eating while the others still have to wait, even though we ordered everything together. This is particularly annoying when you want to eat together. Overall, the restaurant is reasonably clean and the quick service is definitely a plus. However, the coordination of dishes should be improved so that the enjoyment of eating together is not lost.

The lovely indian taste you can find here, nice vegetarian hotel with great indian taste. People working here are very good. The prices are little high and quantity not enough.

Went there with my son. They asked me to pay before to serve the drinks. Beer was flat almost undrinkable. Asked if they had other beers the owner came to me threatening me and telling me to go away. Shame on you

PEPPER AND JUST PEPPER. I would give 0 RATING if possible. Very disappointed with the experience here. Many dishes were overly peppery, except for a few South Indian items like dosa, idli, and vada, which were good. The North Indian and Chinese options weren't great. The presentation and cleanliness could use improvement. I would recommend sticking to the South Indian menu if you visit.

The menu is vegetarian, the food we ordered, noodles from the wok, was nothing special, just like you warm up the leftover noodles from lunch at home. Maybe it was the wrong choice. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the toilets was not good, perhaps it was due to the public viewing of the European Championships

We had number 187 from the menu and received a small bowl of soft noodles with a few herbs and a few slices of canned mushrooms. The charge was €12.90 per portion. The food was mediocre but the price was outrageous. In addition, the restaurant was not very attractive, the hallway to the toilet was completely lined with boxes. The men's toilet in the basement was extremely dirty. No paper towels, no toilet seat and the floor was a complete puddle. Sorry, but I feel ripped off and can't recommend the restaurant.

Slow service and tasteless food.

We had a horrible experience at Saravanaa Bhavan. We were served the dessert before the main course (the dessert was supposed to be eaten warm). Then, after 2 minutes of eating the waiter came and asked us to pay (always good to take out money when you're eating with hands...). In the meantime, they were cleaning the restaurant, putting trash bags on the tables next to us... When we asked to talk to someone to complain, the staff was extremely hostile and condescending. Run away from this restaurant, there are much better Indian places in Cologne.

The food is very authentic and fresh. The service is extremely poor. The staff with sore faces, absolutely unwelcoming of guests. No politeness or even a pretence of it. Menu with marks of oily fingers. Toilets are never cleaned, overflowing, water all over the floor, no paper to wipe hands. The handwash sink is always dirty, often without soap and napkins. My colleagues detest going there because of the bad service and lack of hygiene.

Not expensive south Indian food in the heart of köln. Feeling the urge to eat Indian food after a week of continental cuisine we ended up at this restaurant. A global chain which is largely known for its doses and idlies.. it did not disappoint again. Recommend their south Indian Snacks and staying away from the Chinese and north Indian fare.

The restaurant offers very authentic South Indian dishes, and tastes are really good. I would definitely recommend Masala Dosa. They speak in English, Hindi, and German as ar as I have experienced. Very well services.

To be honest the customer service is so bad as I had to wait for half hour for food even if the shop isn’t so crowded. The washroom and urinal was so bad and I think they don’t care about hygiene and stuffs. Even they don’t restock tissue and hand tissues which is bad

If you are in Germany especially in NRW state and missing some South Indian food. Then it’s the place to go to. Food is really great in taste and they have got good and many options to chose from. Best part is with sambhar you can always ask for more. It’s bit crowded but you get table in sometime for 2-3 people easily but if it’s a large group then it’s suggested to book in advance. Staff is courteous and nice. Service is also good they don’t let you wait for very long. Flavours are good and you don’t feel like you are eating that in Germany they give you a feel as if you are having authentic. All in all I keep going back to this place as I liked the taste much. Quantity is amazing as well. Good South Indian taste with lots of sambhar and chutneys.

When I requested about refilling a bottle with tap water at bar counter they rejected. Even my bill is around 100 euros. Quite disappointing about this incident. Otherwise it's a good choice for south indian vegetarian food.

The food was very authentic and as good as you get in any restaurants in India. The chutneys , Sambar were fresh and flavorful. The hot Rawa Kesar was out of the world.

We love Indian food. So we spontaneously decided on this well-rated restaurant on our day trip to Cologne. We sat outside so I can't rate the ambience. The service was nice, nothing to complain about here. We had 2 starters and 2 main courses. Unfortunately, all 4 dishes were not to our taste at all. The main reason is clearly that the food was WAY too spicy and therefore inedible for us, even though we specifically asked for “mild” when ordering. Unfortunately, we returned more than half, which has really never happened to us before. I think value for money is ok for Cologne, but €70 is a lot for food that almost couldn't be eaten. We also wanted to order a portion of Nan bread, but noticed from the table next door that the Nan was apparently “empty”. For me it was unimaginable in an Indian restaurant on a Saturday evening. In my opinion, the food is unfortunately not presented in an attractive way, as it is served on the table in divided stainless steel plates, which somehow brings prison canteen vibes. But well, you can argue about that. Although of course the eye always eats too.

One of the things I try to ensure when traveling internationally is to appease my taste buds at least once a day. Being vegetarian makes life a little difficult on international travel. I manage the day with whatever options available but in the evening a full Indian style meal is an icing on the cake. This is where Saravana Bhavan came to my rescue. The big advantage here is that their food tastes the same world over. The Cologne one was no different. I would have loved to have the mini meal or bisibelle bhat, but unfortunately, they serve it only on the weekends. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my idli, dosa, and vadai with sambhar and chutneys along with a coffee. Couldn't have asked for a better option.

The selection on the menu is really bombastic. The appetizer we ordered was also super tasty. Unfortunately, I and my companion were a bit disappointed with the main course. The service is super nice and the food arrived very quickly. A big negative point was the toilet, where there wasn't even a toilet seat in the women's toilet. If I'm in Cologne again, I'd love to come back.

Was disappointing. Had to wait for a long time for the dish. Dish looked good but was too salty, poor response from waiter had to call him each time and wait a long time for the order and he forgot one item, I guess he was like if you want you eat otherwise get lost. The salad was dry don't know when they had prepared it. Even worse was last time there was a hair.

Great and authentic south Indian style Dosa. Same as what you could get in Tamil Nadu, India. Tried ghee masala dosa, top quality. Desi chinese are not recommended. Too much food color and oil.

Great food, really like this restaurant. They have great options for dosas and other items. My personal favourite is the ghee roast dosa. However the servers or waiters can be a bit moody sometimes. The first time I went there, everything was good but a second time, the waiters were not paying attention and we had to request the same thing multiple times. I think it’s good to go here when the crowd is less.

Authentic Indian food ( all veg, needless to say). Love the South Indian menu. Small suggestions: Have at least 2 kofta pieces in platter and Try to introduce more sweet dish options!

The food quality is poor. Toilets smell foul. I had bad stomach ache and nausea for two days. I would think twice before visiting the place again. Mango lassi is stored in canisters 🤢 They are simply Indian crepes, in my opinion they are not worth the money. It's not worth it

The food, there's nothing else to say, is incredibly tasty and the portions are big enough. The service, at least when we were there with 10 people, was chaotic. But all the service staff were very, very friendly. The ambience was okay. Conclusion: I would love to come back. The menu is long and wants to be tried from top to bottom.

In fact, the situation was quite the opposite, as it was initiated by an unidentified individual—whether a fellow customer or a member of your staff—who unjustly escalated matters by treatning us of LITTERLAYY HITTING US. As someone who has been living in Germany for the past eight years, I have always strived to maintain a respectful and courteous demeanor in all my interactions, regardless of the circumstances. It is incredibly distressing to be accused of such behavior, especially when it is entirely unfounded. We have witnesses to the entire situation, as two nearby individuals, who were seated next to us, observed the events unfold and were equally perplexed by the managers' handling of the situation and by the unidentified individual threats of HITTING US: During my visit to your restaurant, there was an unfortunate incident involving spilled drinks. I want to clarify that my interaction with your staff, particularly with a young man named Dev, was conducted in a polite and understanding manner. Mistakes happen, and I simply requested that the restaurant cover the cost of the spilled drinks or my dry cleaning bills. However, the situation escalated when the owner or manager approached us with what I can only describe as a pathetic attitude. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, he outright refused to take any responsibility and even threatened to involve the police if we did not pay the bill. I want to emphasize that at no point did I or anyone in my party engage in violent or disrespectful behavior towards your staff or other guests. It is deeply troubling that such accusations have been made against me, especially considering that I have never encountered such issues in my many years of dining out, both in Germany and in India OR IN ANY PART OF WORLD. I am deeply disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service displayed by your establishment. As a result of this experience, I am considering taking LEGAL ACTION against Sarvana Bhawan for the unjust treatment I received. I sincerely hope that you will take this matter seriously and address the concerns raised. I trust that you will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and take appropriate action to prevent similar occurrences in the future. ..... Pathetic service, pathetic experience. These guys are absolutely racist against their own race, typical Indians living in Germany. The waiter spilled the whole beer on me, spilled mean drowned me with beer. my dress, my boots, my coat all drenched in beer. We still took it light hearted and asked them to compensate with drinks. mind us, we were paying everything else. Only the drinks they spilled on us, we asked them to cover despite of my dryclean bill of my swede boots and expensive jacket that they drenched in beer, that I still have to cover by myself. They choose to pick up a scene and told us that they will call the police on us for expressing our uneasiness with the whole experiences.They Told us clearly, they will not be covering the bill for cleaning of my shoes and clothes. After leaving this, they even forgot to serve us, kept us waiting for food, never arrived until remind them of it, when we raised concerns, told us to lower our voice as we were bringing shame to them as an Indian, what a joke . I am baffled with the whole experience, a girl sitting with wet cloths Drenched in beer, and I am bringing shame to them. Literately the worst dinning experience I even had. They increased food Prices but decreased food quality. The food used to be very good. Now the quality has been downgraded. It’s typical for Indian restaurants when they run well, they reduce the quality control and become complacent. I thought it would be different in sarvana bhawan, but it’s same story. The service is not that great. If you greet the service personnel, they don’t greet you back. Feels like they’re doing a favour by serving you. Unfortunately, I’ll start looking for alternatives.
