I make it a point to visit every time I'm in Munich, and the consistency is remarkable. Every single dish I've tried has been nothing short of amazing. If you are looking for true, authentic South Indian food, do not think twice—just go! The quality of the food makes the trip completely worthwhile. Dosa is really good ... but I don't like the coffee..

Standard Saravanaa Bhavan food but extremely expensive, felt ripped off paying ridiculous amount in Euros for what we get in the middle east for much, much less. Toilets were filthy and the interiors were cheap. We don't have much choice in Munich when you have Dosa cravings so we paid.

I was at the restaurant last night and something very bad happened, we felt sorry for witnessing, we have been recommend to visit the place by friends that live here. We had to witness a very unpleasant situation how three Indian guests behaved terribly toward a young waitress after being very rude and complicated for no reason. The man even said, “You are our servant.” That is absolutely unacceptable in any kind of establishment especially not in Germany, where every worker has dignity and rights. The waitress stayed calm and professional the whole time and had every right to call the police for such disrespect. What shocked me more was that the manager apologized to those rude guests instead of standing up for his staff. Very disappointing.

During the late evening hours today at the restaurant , an unpleasant situation occurred between a group of three customers and a staff. The customers repeatedly changed their food order and spoke to the waitress in an unreasonably demanding and disrespectful manner. At one point I personally heard the men told her, “You are our servant; you must wait for our decision politely.” Such language is completely inappropriate in any workplace and would be considered harassment under German hospitality and employment standards. The waitress remained calm and professional during the interaction. She then reminded the customers to maintain respect and, when they continued to behave aggressively, warned that she would call the police if they kept threatening or disrespecting her. This was a justified and lawful response to protect herself and maintain order in the restaurant. Instead of supporting the employee, the manager—who appeared inexperienced and unfamiliar with local labor protections—chose to apologize to the customers in an attempt to calm the situation. This decision was not in line with German regulations, which require management to protect employees from any form of verbal abuse or harassment at the workplace (§ 12 AGG). After realizing the seriousness of the matter, the customers paid quickly and left the restaurant from the back gate. We were sitting next to that table and that the customers behavior was unacceptable. This note is written simply to put what was witnessed and to highlight that the manager’s handling of the incident did not align with standard practice or legal expectations in Germany.

I have been to this place after seeing the reviews and of course - the name of the brand, but the food wasn't as per with the reviews. I have lived in South India for many years and their dosas are more of a north region of India. Even my south Indian friends were disappointed. I ordered: Rawa Dosa

Extremely Rude Lady staff started showing attitude and fighting with my small kid . Twice she misbehaved . Very rude behaviour of this lady staff and started threaten me. Very impolite and rude lady staff

The experience was poor due to the manager’s constant stalking of food and tables, prompting customers to leave. The serving speed was slow. The waitstaff were competent, but the manager’s behaviour ruined the overall experience. The chola bhatura and dosa were enjoyable, but the sambar vada was unappetising due to the stress caused by the manager.

You have to wait 40 minutes just for chpati And poor Service by the workers and lake of hospitality

Horrible experience, rude staff. The quantity is also less. The waitress exchanged our dosas and my friend who had allergy was given the dosa with the powder. When we asked about it she very rudely said that its not her fault, the kitchen people gave her like that and then sent the manager to talk to us. There was no compensation and on the top he blamed us for not recognising which dosa was ours as if we should know each and every dish as there are 50 kinds and I was having it for the first time. Never going to be there again. Horrible.

This place has seriously gone downhill. The woman serving the food had a nasty attitude constantly staring at everyone like we were bothering her just by being there. No basic manners or professionalism. And the food? Total disappointment. I ordered a masala dosa and it wasn’t even properly cooked, I literally got raw dosa batter inside. Absolutely unacceptable. Portions were tiny, prices were a joke, and overall, it felt like they just didn’t care anymore. Save your money and go somewhere that actually respects their customers.

Worst North Indian food Thali. Not worth . . The chapati were not fresh . The dal was also not fresh.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined dramatically. Reheated food, tasteless, or oversalted. Half-raw or overcooked. None of our four meals were edible. We've been here regularly since it opened. Today was the last time.

Ordered mushroom biriyani and worst ever biriyani I had.. doesn't look like basmathi rice.. it tasted like chilli powder rice.. and accepted to change it one time.. 2nd time it wasn't that spicy but just tasted like tomato rice with salted mushrooms.. other foods we ordered were good.. will never recommend biriyani anymore..

Went to eat here a couple of times, One of which gave me and my friends a bad case of stomach flu. Honestly not surprised given the many reviews highlighting concerning sanitary conditions. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place. Ps. The owners keep trying to delete and remove low scoring reviews (mine included). All I stated is true and an honest report of my experience.

Food was average and not as good as other branches in Berlin or Amsterdam… They refused to change the order even after 30 seconds from the time when we ordered, felt very weird to have such policy Chutneys were watery and bland… onion uthapam was undercooked.. naans were not available My colleague recommended this place and he said it was very good last year but not sure what happened now Idli vada was warm and tasty

I was quite disappointed with my visit here. The food quality did not match the standards I expected, especially considering the name and reputation of Saravana Bhavan. The idli, vada, and parotta were hard. For the prices charged, it did not feel like value for money. The restaurant atmosphere was below average and the washroom facilities were very poor, which is surprising given this is in Munich. Cleanliness and comfort should definitely be improved. On the positive side, the staff were extremely polite and friendly, which made the experience a little better. Overall, I would say the service was good but the food and environment need major improvement.

This was by far last time I went here, we were not served even after 1.5 hrs, they keep serving every other table and when we decided to leave, they only told us there’s been mismanagement by kitchen staff. Imagine I was with my child and felt humiliated and disgusted . They are no more reliable , since last 2-3 times I’ve been facing issues but this was last nail in coffin

The food was not good at all. The franchisee is not maintaining the food quality. The Medu wada were stale. The paneer soda was very spicy. The coconut chutney was almost watered down. The plain dosa cold in a few minutes and as per the staff, this is all how it is. And the butter milk never came.

Update: 27.09: They are like spending time deleting reviews by calling it defamation. They tried and they failed. Why not just spend time in improving your hospitality. Food is decent. I will say nothing special. Ok to have it once in a while. But the service is very poor. The owner or the person who is always on door giving tables is always rude which I believe also reflects on the staff who are never smiling. It’s like just eat and leave. There is no proper atmosphere to dine.

As an Indian, this was One of the worst food I've tried in Germany. The parotta was lukewarm, precooked and dry. Felt like eating the frozen parotta you buy from indian store. And coffee.... OMG it tasted like instant coffee... nowhere near Indian filter coffee. This restaurant felt like a typical trap for foreigners.

I went to saravaana bhawan and ate dosa and paneer pakode. After having their food, I got a very bad stomach infection and was on medicines for a whole week. This is my honest review. I actually posted the rating without writing this but they wanted my review to be removed and marked this as defamation. I discover new lows by indians for indians everyday. European people are quite kind and they are not having knowledge about the authentic indian food however I am indian so I knew their food was far from good. Further we dont have tiping culture in India however these Indian expect tips in Europe, for what(serving food at your restaurant)? Take this comment to your mind not heart and improve on your services.

How do you rate a restaurant when you find a hair and flies in the food and the staff is eating food sitting next to your table.Not a place to have good quite meal because its way too chaotic. Hopefully , it gets better.Till then , experience a bad road side dhaba in Munich.

Total disappointment! Waste of money! Unacceptable food

Authentic South-Indian taste restaurant! They didn’t want to compromise on taste so they didn’t inaugurate this restaurant, but kept it closed for 26 months due to visa delays for their chiefs. Now, they are operating in full capacity!! Kudos to this franchise for keeping up with the same taste all over the world(23+ countries and counting…).

Dosas in all variations. Okay... the chutney was a bit mushy. It feels like you're in India. Funny!

We were a bit hesitant to go for lunch after reading some recent negative reviews, but decided to give it a try anyway — and I’m glad we did! As a South Indian, I can say this place did not disappoint. We ordered the Thaali, various Dosas, Mango Lassi, and Vada. While they didn’t have the South Indian Thaali due to the chef’s unavailability, the Dosas were absolutely delicious — crispy, flavorful, and authentic. The Mango Lassi was refreshing, and the Vada is decent. Sambhar is OKAY!! price for thali is bit too much. 22.5Euros Despite the initial doubts, the food lifted our mood and exceeded expectations. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re craving good South Indian DOSA.

Used to be my go to for South Indian food, from the time they opened until about three weeks ago. I don't know if the management and chefs have changed(I think they certainly have), and the quality/taste of food has gone down by a lot. The sambar and chutnies taste completely different and sub standard and so do other side dishes. Truly disappointed, I don't think I'll be going here again because of this. It's a shame I used to go there so often, but with the changed recipes probably not worth it anymore

A consistent delight for authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine. I have visited Saravana Bhavan several times, and it never fails to impress. Their dosas are the star; perfectly crisp, incredibly flavorful, and, importantly, not heavy on the gut. The experience is always elevated by their fantastic filter coffee, which is a must-try addition. Highly recommended for a genuine and satisfying meal.

If Masala Dosa has such a potato sabji then I need to really think, who is the cook. Secondly the chutney was purified which is never the case and the taste has gone for a toss. Gulab Jamun is like foam with a hell lot of sugar. 2 years ago things were different.

I recently visited this restaurant and was very disappointed with the overall experience. The hygiene standards were extremely poor, I even found an insect in my masala dosa, which was completely unacceptable. On top of that, the drinking water was overpriced, and the atmosphere inside was uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The management didn’t seem to care about customer satisfaction, which only made things worse. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place until major improvements are made in food hygiene, pricing, and overall service.

This place has gone completely downhill. The quality is now so appalling that we’ve decided never to step foot in here again. Easily one of the worst so-called South Indian restaurants around. Apart from the Chole Bhature — which was just passable — everything else was a disaster. The so-called vegetable biryani was just a pile of undercooked onions with no flavor. The dosa was outright terrible. To top it off, they rarely even have a South Indian thali available — in a South Indian restaurant! Utterly disappointing and not worth anyone’s time or money.

It is NO longer the south Indian food I crave for. The taste and recipe has changed and they informed that their chef had changed. The sambar felt like daal out of refrigerator, chutneys were bland, 15 pepper balls in 2 pieces of vada, horrible taste and no authenticity anymore. Way lesser portion. Noodles tasted like feet (and they keep decreasing the portion). We also ordered hakka noodles and they weren't even hakka noodles they were some random sweet noodle with ketchup. Overall, horrible experience. Must admit the new chef does not know how to cook south Indian dishes. Service isn't good either. The waitors keep looking and staring, laughing at times, no professionalism. Bring that old chef back else this place is NOT RECOMMENDED.

Have been going here for quite sometime and the quality and service keeps deteriorating. Recently they have changed their chef, and mind it, it has gone down the hill. Sambar is like yellow daal, dosa is soggy and chutney is bland.

The Mysore Masala Dosa had no resemblance to its authentic taste – it only had ginger paste and a small portion of potato masala. • The sambar was bland and tasteless, which is very unusual for South Indian cuisine. • The mango lassi was of poor quality, with visible pores and an odd texture. When I raised my concern, the manager mentioned that the management and chef have been changed, which seems to explain why the food quality has dropped drastically. I have enjoyed Saravana Bhavan in other cities for years, but sadly, this branch does not live up to the name at all. For anyone expecting authentic South Indian flavors, I would not recommend visiting this place.

We always enjoyed eating here, but I think this was the last time. We always order the same dish, Mushroom Manchurian, and we know what it looks like and, more importantly, what it tastes like. Today we ordered it, but it looked completely different (brown sauce instead of red) and tasted completely different than usual (just smoky, almost like cigarette smoke). We immediately informed the waiter who brought the food, but he just unconcernedly replied that it was the right dish. We then asked another waiter, who immediately noticed that the dish looked different than usual and went to the kitchen to inquire. He then came back to us and said there was a new chef and that he "must have changed the recipe." No one offered us something else or a refund, even though we said it was different from what we ordered and that it tasted different. Unfortunately, the quality has generally declined significantly over the course of the year; the food tastes much worse, and the portions are getting smaller and smaller. There are hardly any mushrooms in the mushroom dishes, usually fewer than five. The rest on the already small plate consists only of onions, and the whole thing costs €14.50. In addition to the food, which unfortunately became increasingly poor, we were also completely dissatisfied with the service today. Firstly, because of the poor, almost non-existent response to the wrong dish, and secondly, because the waiter cleared the dishes from the table while we were still chewing. We won't be coming here again and can no longer recommend the restaurant.

I had a really disappointing experience at Saravana Bhavan in Munich. The service was poor, and the food lacked any flavor—it tasted like something straight out of the freezer rather than freshly prepared. Overall, it felt like no care went into either the food or the service. I won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend it.

Finally, some authentic South Indian food again – I was delighted with the pooris! And the masala dosa was good too. We'd love to come back.

Why is there no oprion for 0 stars. Went to the place last day before we travelled back to Berlin. Worst decision of the trip, wonderful Munich trip ruined due to horrible and terrible service. My upbringing does not allow me to say much about the food, so lets just say I wont eat here again. Anybody reading this, if ever you decide to trust a strangers advice...avoid this place. EDIT: We were getting super late for our train and gor most of the food packed. I open it in the train and guess what, they re-heated Haldiram frozen plain parotha and served it as a roti. Shame that this happens in such a reputed chain as Sarvanna Bhavan

Worst South Indian food I have ever had. Have been to so many saravana bhavan’s across Europe, this was the worst. No taste, very bad quality and poor/slow service. Pls don’t waste your time.

Very disappointing experience. The hygiene is unacceptable, I even found an insect in my food. On top of that, the restaurant is extremely congested, with tables placed too close together. At one point, it was so overcrowded that a waiter spilled mango lassi on a seated customer. For a brand with such a reputation, this is shocking. They seriously need to improve food safety and provide proper seating arrangements before allowing in more guests. Until then, I cannot recommend this place.

Unfortunately, lunch was very disappointing. It had absolutely nothing to do with authentic South Indian food. We ordered two different dishes, but both looked and tasted almost identical. Furthermore, the food wasn't child-friendly at all. Overall, a not a good experience. 😕😔

The food was not at all taste like saravana bhavan. Poor taste with no proper preparations. The Sambhar taste like tur dal, Chutneys was awful. Against the price they are charging.

The tables are small and does not fit 2x Dosa plates and given the seating layout, the experience is pathetic. The Service Levels are inconsistent and argumentative, with som exceptions. Food is authentic and good, and I can today visibly see a change in the quality and taste of the food compared to yesteryears at Munich.

The food at Saravana Bhavan is good as always. I dine here whenever we are in München. A very nice vegetarian South indian restaurant.

While it is not the coziest restaurant in Munich, the food makes up for everything. It is truly authentic Indian cuisine - so don’t come with the expectation to find the dishes you know from the delivery service around the corner. Taste and variety are completely different, but it has quickly become one of my favorite place.

The food tastes extremely good; we come here often and enjoy it. But the place is always a bit dirty. You have to like it. The service is very friendly, but sometimes a bit disorganized. Drinks often arrive after the meal, or something gets forgotten. Waiters even walk past the tables and don't take the empty tray. The boss always gives you a grumpy look, or even snubs you. If you ignore all that, the food there is fantastic. We always enjoy coming back and come back very often.

Whatever we tried to order were either out of their menu or unavailable on the day we visited and it was a weekday. And what we finally ordered was not at par of the other Sarvana Bhavan franchisees in terms of both taste and price. Inshort, we just came out disappointed.

Saravanaa Bhavan never fails to amaze me. The taste was authentic, no matter in which country it is. The only thing unusual was the restaurants in Europe generally don’t serve water by default . That was the only concern we had, but that’s not HSB’s fault though!

A South Indian Delight in Munich! 🌿🍛 If you’re craving authentic South Indian flavors in Munich, this restaurant is an absolute gem! We tried the Paper Masala Dosa and Masala Dosa – both were crispy, perfectly spiced, and absolutely delicious! 🤤✨ While we didn’t enjoy the Mysore Masala Dosa as much ,the classic Masala Dosa truly stole the show. They have us Many varieties of Chutneys with Dosa which was amazing 🌟 We also tried the Veg Manchurian – not quite to our taste this time, a bit too oily and the flavor didn’t hit the mark like the dosas did. But hey, everyone’s palate is different! 💬 Highlight: The dosas alone make this place worth the visit.We visited it Twice in our 4 days in munich. ✅ Verdict: Possibly the best South Indian restaurant in Munich! 🛑 Will we go again? Absolutely – it’s a must-stop every time we’re in town!

Being an Indian who absolutely loves south Indian food my cravings for dosa are no joke! However, the food poisoning I got from our meal here and the consequences resulting from it has led me to conclude that no craving is worth that experience. I feel it's only fair to share this for others considering dining here. I will never comeback here and that is saying something because good dosa is a rare thing to find in Munich!

It is very authentic Indian cuisine, all vegetarian. When you come you should come as a group as in peak hours they only receive the whole group together. The staff is super friendly! If you’re not used to spicy this will be very spicy for you, however if you like it you’re at the right place! 😊

disgusting food I went there to eat with my daughter. We had just arrived there and ordered mango lassi as soon as we left. And at the same time I ordered Medu vada, pav Bhaji Dosa and Noodles.Within the next one to two minutes, he brought mango lassi.We had just started drinking the mango lassi when our food arrived.As soon as I put the first spoonful of Pav Bhaji dosa in my mouth, its taste was absolutely disgusting.Then I tried the noodles but they were also rubbish. The noodles and pav bhaji dosa were made a long time ago and were not fresh.I called the waitress standing there and told her that this food is not fresh because it tastes so bad. She replied that no, this food is fresh. I told her that if this food was fresh, you wouldn't have given me three plates of food in five minutes, Because it always takes time to prepare fresh food, but she said that we have different chefs and they prepare food quickly.I finished half my pav bhaji dosa with great difficulty but my daughter didn't eat anything there. Later I ordered her tea but she brought the tea within the next two minutes. I understood from that that nothing is fresh here, everything is already prepared because Indian tea takes 10 to 15 minutes to prepare and tea doesn't come prepared in two minutes.The taste of that tea was even more useless than that food. I told the waitress to make my bill and leave because I was very angry. I paid a bill of 54 euros for that food. The Saravana Bhavan restaurant which is in the Frankfurt, their food is very fresh and tasty. but their food which is in the Saravana Bhavan restaurant Munich, their food is very bad. I will never go back there.

We ordered the food and drinks both and specifically mentioned less spicy still we got all 3 dishes spicy. Second we received our drinks too late and third the attitude of staff is beyond tolerance. Surely never visiting again and total waste of money.

This is one of the "best" options for veg south indian food in munich. The only problem is there is no meals options on weekdays and no free tap water provided. Please consider providing these services in near future to make the experience even better for customers.

The food here was really tasty - full of flavor like Kerala and well-prepared — so no complaints on that front. But I feel the service needs some attention. There were about 4-5 staff members, but only two of them were actually working while the others seemed more interested in chatting with each other than helping out. I hope the owner notices this and has a word with them, because with better staff management, this place could be even great!

The food is authentic south Indian, we ordered dosa, rava dosa, lassi, rava kesari and idali all was authentic, service was quick and atmosphere is nice. Aside of the restaurant there is indian grocery store so you can combine that with shopping. Nothing wrong if you order the south indian dishes here.

We came from Hamburg for the Germany Portugal game and are Indian ourselves. We were really happy when we saw on the internet that there was a Savaranaa Bhavan branch in Munich and went straight there. We parked and smelled the Indian food! It was really lovely and the service was friendly and the food was amazing. The noodles weren't supposed to be spicy because my 3 year old sister can't tolerate spicy food but they were still spicy and then we swapped them and said please without any spice and with vegetables but there were still vegetables in them BUT I have to say if an Indian restaurant makes a dish without any spice then it's not an authentic Indian restaurant, I didn't think it was a bad thing but they could have left out the vegetables. Right next door is an Indian grocery store.

The food is descent but not the best ... Idly and dosa are good... Mini idalis are recommended... Don't order any North Indian food, they don't know how to make that .... Ordered veg Manchurian and it's wasn't exactly what it supposed to be... They made Manchurian with bhaji and overall taste was bad... Service is good.... Drinks are highly overpriced and that too lack sufficient quantity... Overall not worth the experience with money spend :(
