Good Indian food.A survival for indians in foreign land.Must try

Food is fairly tolerable - some items. But the experience and management is terrible. Very bad I would say. After the bad experience I was even skeptical to go to any other franchise. But it's not so. Saravanaa Bhavan Munich management is the problem.

Delicious (spicy) food, great explanations about the dishes, the staff speaks to you in English. Maybe a topic for many, but authentic and pleasant for me. The QR codes for ordering were a bit confusing and the cutlery wasn't high-quality gastroware, but here too: authentic

The food is delicious and the amount of options are great. The service is also quick. The only problem is ventilation. The restaurant gets too hot for comfort.

Edit: The food quality and taste has deteriorated a lot in the last few months. Sad to see this from such a reputed franchise restaurant. Food was tasty. Restaurant was pleasant. The staff were paying good attention to each and every customer. We went by 6pm on a weekday, so we got a table rightaway. Food was also served very quickly. Dosas. Vada. Idly. Filter coffee. Butter milk. are some of the things we tried and all of them were tasty. Overall, it was well worth visiting :) I read some negative reviews about waiters not knowing the items and also waiting in queue for long hours. Well, if you go to any saravana bhavan in Germany, I'm sure the waiting time will be more. So, I would suggest you to avoid busy hours. Regarding the waiters, there are also some south indian waiters. If you want, you can call them and order.

Don't go thinking it's Saravana Bhavan, or else you'll be disappointed. It's a very mediocre restaurant for south indian food. (Shabby old chairs, no restaurant like feeling, no ventilators, esp. I didn't like the perhaps head-waiter who gives looks when you don't order a water bottle :) )

Pathetic experience. Had been to Saravanaa bhavan in köln, where the food and service was a lot better. Mysore bonda was not fried enough and was doughy. Mysore Masala Dosa was unpleasantly spicy. Idlys were okay. The service was very bad by the elder waiter. Was very rude and was disinterested in taking order and serving food. Sambar and mango Lassi were the only tasty items.

Very poor ambience, no ventilation whatsoever. We had ghee roast masala dosa and ghee rava masala dosa. The dosa batter, sambhar and chutneys did not taste fresh and did by no means feel like a Saravanaa Bhavan experience compared to the other branches we have visited.

Food was better than expected but the ambience is far from peaceful or having any form of order .. tables stacked too close to each other , weary doorman looking at your face waiting for you to be done so he can seat others waiting in queue , too cluttery ... but still the food hits the right spot , if you're a South Indian the Sambar won't disappoint

Hi it was rainy day and fantastic food . If you missing South Indian vegetarian food I would definitely give a try wherever I found this restaurant in Germany . My favorite spot of canteen style food. When I went I felt that missing Indian food get out of my mind after trying this restaurant. The food was delicious. The price also reasonable. The hygiene I found little more improved it would be best rather then all is perfect.

Filthy with old, torn furniture. Very poor ventilation so you and your clothes will reek of spices from sitting inside (there is no outside seating). Food is amazing, and very authentic!

Good food BUT cramped layout .. WATER Bottle charged exorbitantly at 6.50 Euro , Note that you can’t bring your own water bottle. This is an unethical practice and you feel cheated !!

I heard so much about this place and was so excited to go and eat here but I was literally disappointed. The idli tasted like the batter was too old, chutney and sambhar was too much spicy. In Maisoor Masala Dosa, the spice was not properly cooked. The restaurant itself was not so clean and as there was no ac or proper ventilation, the place was boiling inside. I hope it can be improved.

Good South Indian Food. Authentic taste. We were likely this time as it was not crowded. While the food is good and we got good service, but the ambience can be improved. Some of the chairs are worn out. Also, for 3 people, they offer a seating which is suitable only for 2… this can be improved as well.

Saravanaa Bhavan is authentic fast casual Indian food. It is informal, busy, a bit cramped and possibly a bit loud. Do not expect fine dining or a romantic atmosphere. But the good is good! This is everyday food and it's well made. Service can be a bit slow when the place is busy but it's worth the wait.

Don’t go there. Over hyped food is not that good

Taste is ok ok and curd is not good . We asked for tap water to drink and He charged for tap water for three glasses as 10.5 Euros . Pathetic . How can charge for tap water and too much cost

Food was really great, there were lots of vegetarian and vegan options and the food tasted fresh and delicious. However, for some reason the waitress refused to split the amount when paying, which was very unpleasant because we were a large group and then had to split the money afterwards.

If you stand in the door and close your eyes, you think you are in India. Nowhere in Germany can you get such authentic Indian dosas as at Saravanaa Bhavan. The furnishings are simple, like in a restaurant in India, but completely ok. For us, a visit there is like a vacation in Kerala

I am a South Indian vegetarian person, and trust me, this is one of the authentic restaurants in Europe under this chain. The spice level is exactly how it should be, and the place deserves higher rating than what it currently has. This is my go-to place in Munich whenever I crave for food from my land - Idly, medhu vadai, dosai, utthapam, adai-avial, chole bhature, south/north Indian thalis, Indo-chinese, etc. Although quite busy, they do a good job of taking orders and serving the deliciously cooked food within reasonable waiting times. The ambience is decent for the size of the place. My suggestion would be to reduce the pricing for some dishes, especially the Curries and Chinese Wok.

You can’t split the bill and the waiters only speak English. Food was really bad combined and was cold. Menu has to much to choose from especially because half of it wasn’t provided. Curry comes without rice! Completely hilarious for the price of 15€. All in all one of the worst experiences in Munich when it comes to Indian food. Would not recommend.

Real South Indian dishes. Delicious. Like too much noise. Every time I eat there I have to go to the toilet within 2 hours. I don't know why it is, but I still go there again and again because I like it so much. The taste of oil remains in your mouth after eating.

I recently dined at Saravanaa Bhavan and was thoroughly disappointed with the experience. The food quality has deteriorated significantly, with none of the rich flavors and authentic tastes one would expect from an South Indian restaurant. The Bisibelebath especially was quite disappointing. The dishes lacks the traditional spices and depth that define Indian cuisine, making for a bland and unmemorable meal. It's disheartening to see such a decline in a restaurant that once celebrated the true essence of Indian food. I hope they take steps to bring back the authenticity and quality that made them popular in the first place.

The ambience can surely be improved. On a hot day, a few fans would surely help. The food is okay. We tried the uttapam, curd rice (only available on Saturdays and Sundays) and the idlis.

We wanted to eat South Indian in Munich and looked up options. We had only two showing up but both were rated under 4.0 and so we were in two minds whether to go or not. We finally decided to try Sarvanna Bhavan as we have been to its franchisee restaurants in EU. We ordered Idli and Dosas but overall were not happy with the taste and freshness of Idli as well as the Rasam. Dosas were decent but not outstanding. Can now relate to why this is rated below 4.0.

Good food. You should send some good chefs to Stockholm as well.

This is just like Saravanaa Bhavan in Chennai. Same uniforms, same food, same taste, same atmosphere, it’s the same. Just love this place. We will be back many many more times.

Had been here for lunch. Ordered a south Indian Thali. Poori was good. Rest all curries were a little salty.. cost is 22 euros.. definitely not worth the money.. overrated compared to the price at least. Moreover they don't allow us to have water. They don't even serve tap water and it's like forcing us to buy 400ml water for 3.5 euros. Cheap tactic from the hotel management. It's not just enough to be proud of the food.. please try to have some Indian culture also. Terrible

Indian Restaurant quiet good enough. Tried recommending to german colleagues the only concern they had its not clean enough .When compared to one in cologne yea the ambience and cleanliness of cologne restaurant was better . Prices are affordable.

I visited the place in a group of 10 friends. We instantly got the table even though it was a weekend. Most of the dosas were really good but we encountered issues with other food items. For example, the milk in the Masala tea was spoiled, One of the dosa we ordered tasted bitter. However the manager was nice enough to listen to all the complaints and we got a replacement immediately.

The food at Saravanaa Bhavan Munich was abysmal. I was extremely disappointed with the quality and the taste. Having eaten previously at Saravanaa Bhavan Berlin, the coffee was cold, the food did not have the right flavors with more of a European touch given to the dishes. All in all, I would not recommend going to the restaurant if you do relish South Indian food.

I have eaten masala dosa here as well as a few other South Indian delicacies and it's very yummy! The entire menu is vegetarian. Price is on the higher side. I have also bought food from Too Good to Go (5€) here. Unfortunately that was disappointing. It's miscellaneous leftovers which is fine but half of it seemed like "reject" food - over/under cooked or sour. The curry was very good but was less in quantity. I recommend eating here but not Too good to Go.

This isn’t an authentic south indian restaurant (dont be fooled by the franchise name, they serve their own version of „south indian“ Food here) . The food is okay. For example, in the mysuru massla dosa, the masala filling tasted like sabji and the chilli paste was extremely spicy. Its not supposed to be that spicy. And the coconut chutney was bad. Dosa was decent. Service was good though. But extremely disappointed with the overall experience.

Both South Indian and well as North Indian dishes were super nice ! Service was also excellent, strongly recommend specially because it’s one of the very few restaurants in Munich that offers South Indian food.

Authentic and delicious. The menu selection is huge. The house specialty is apparently the dosas, which you should definitely try.

My personal opinion on Ram Ji: They need to replace all the service staff (absolutely) or maybe they need to increase the salaries of the staff because the staff stands there all the time and doesn't clean the tables. I'll send you some pictures. The table, chairs and floor are too sticky ❗ Today was my fourth time there. The staff is not friendly. After the food was served, they didn't come and ask about the food. I also tried falooda but after that I had stomach ache. I hope Ram Ji does something after my suggestion. And I also ask the health department 🙏Go there and check everything ❗ (seating is mandatory) ❗

Dissappointed and sadneed by poor food quality. I ordered dosa as take away. Service and ambience was good. However, food quality was too bad. Coconut chutney had foul smell and taste. Oil used for dosa was also smelling badly. Seems to be dosa prepared at very high heat or the pan has never been cleaned for long which lead to greassy taste. I had no option but to throw away the parcel. I am really disappointed and never expected such poor quality food. We are ambassador of a great Indian food culture and it is onus on us to keep up to the mark show the world real India food heritage. Same way things went wrong in Sarvanna Hamburg. I hope sarvanna mgmt team would ensure highest quality and standard across their chain of restaurants.

I recently visited and enjoyed the food and ambiance. However, I was disappointed with the Co-worker they weren't friendly even they didn't said Hello. They just brought menu und silently threw at the table. Specific Issues was; cleanliness of the restroom. The restroom was visibly dirty, with overflowing trash bins, unclean floors, and unpleasant odors. Additionally, the soap dispensers were empty, and there were no paper towels available. The lack of hygiene in the restroom made me question the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, which affected my dining experience. I felt we weren't in Germany. Outside is well designed and but when you enter the restroom i felt boahhh. I hope this Restaurant will take this suggestion seriously. Should be freindly welcoming with the Customer and Clean both are the charm of the Restaurant.

The number of people taking the order is very less and hence there is a huge wait time. We placed an order which was new in the menu and everyone got irritated waiting. We all had the same thought if they even knew how to cook the item. Also, their vadas are pretty bad. They are dense on the inside and very tight rather than regular vadas which are crispy and light on the inside.

I don’t understand why their overall review is low because we had the best service and delicious, clean, OG South Indian food! 5 ⭐️ if you’re craving for Indian food do not miss the thali here! Better than the ones you get in their Paris branch.

Enttäuschend! Geschmacklich wie Kantinenfutter. Ein indisch-vegetarisches Restaurant klingt für mich als Vegetarier und Liebhaber der südindischen Küche toll. Daher für das Konzept 2 Punkte. Aber was dort als Chutney und Curry verkauft wird, schmeckt nur fade, geschmacklos und nach Fertigmischung. Dabei wäre gerade die südindische und srilankanische Küche mit ihren intensiven Gewürzen eine Bereicherung für unser Land. Ich koche selbst sehr oft und gerne südindisch, aber für ein solches Essen würde ich mich schämen. Einzig die Dosas selbst sind sehr lecker, aber was hilft das, wenn die Füllung Einheitsbrei ist und die Saucen dazu kaum Geschmack haben. Auch das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis stimmt nicht. Für ein Fast- Food- Ambiente mit billigem, doch zugegeben authentischem Alugeschirr und dazu mangelhafter Beschreibung der vielen Speisen auf der Karte (die auch vom Personal nicht verständlich erklärt werden) passen die Preise nicht. Auch das WC wirkt heruntergekommen, genauso wie der Blick in die Küche daneben. Sehr schade.

I can't understand why this restaurant only has 3.8 stars. The selection is huge, the staff is friendly and the food comes quickly! Absolutely authentic South Indian cuisine, therefore exclusively vegetarian. Even if you like eating meat, you won't miss the tasty dishes. Clear recommendation!!!

Authentic Indian food with lots of vegan options. Saravanaa Bhavan in Munich offers an impressive selection of vegan dishes. The food is authentically Indian and the decor reflects this too. Our dosa and curry were pleasantly spicy and very tasty. Overall, we felt very comfortable in the restaurant and can highly recommend it. I also know the chain's branches in Frankfurt, Cologne and Berlin. These are always a little different, but just as authentic and offer a similar high quality. Saravanaa Bhavan remains a reliable choice for excellent Indian food.

Food was really good but the waiters were damn rude ! A friend of mine asked for a hot glass of water (which we were paying for), had to remind them twice about the water which was served only after 30 mins. The waiter kept asking if we were done while we were still eating food. While asked for paying separately, the waiter started making excuses saying there is a new rule that we have to pay together which is not true cuz in Germany we can pay separately. If they manage the staff properly, the place is great. Do wanna mention the guy in the counter who was really polite. That’s why 2 star for the place.

Food tasted fantastic. We had Sambhar Idli, Plain Idli, Vada, Ghee Dosa, and South Indian Meals. Everything was awesome. Service was quick. We did not wait long to be seated and for the food. Special mention for extraordinary service provided by Marimuthu. He checked on us multiple times. We loved the food so much that we visited twice in our three days stay. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Munich.

You must try all South Indian food if you're missing Indian food. It will refresh all your taste buds, especially the service. The floor manager Marimuthu provided excellent service, making us feel truly at home.

I had an uncomfortable and racist encounter with the cashier today (19-May-2024). I have visited many branches both in India and Germany, but I never expected such a bad experience at Saravana Bhavan. To be clear, all the other staff were courteous, and the food was good. The issue occurred when I was paying the bill. The behavior I encountered was unacceptable; it's very rare to see such rudeness in Indian restaurants worldwide. The craziest part is that I have never experienced any racism in Germany in the past three years, and the first time it happened was in an Indian restaurant from an Indian cashier. The cashier was very courteous to a white customer just before me, but when it was my turn, the attitude was completely different, as if questioning my existence. The disparity was glaringly obvious. You might as well put up a sign saying, "Indians not allowed."

Filthy and overpriced…. I have had much better other Saravanaa restaurants like in Doha, Qatar. Munich branch is a major disappointment.

After a visit to the store, my better half had an upset stomach. Better keep your hands off it

Amazing south Indian food in HSB Munich.. we had 2-3 dosai varieties and sambhar vadai.. all the items we had were very delicious and very close to the taste which we get in India.. it's a must visit if someone wants to have delicious south Indian food.. the hospitality and ambience was also very good...Keep up the good work HSB Munich team

Just go for it if you love south Indian food items. I ate Idli, dosa with sambhar, 3 types of chutney. Everything tasted good. I would recommend masala dosa. Mysore masala dosa was spicier. So if you are less tolerant of hot/spicy items then don't go for it. Tea was a little bit average in taste but food items were spot on. Do visit the place. It gives a very Indian vibe with steel plates and glasses. Service was also good.

Here is my review as Big Zero rating to sarvana Bhavana in Munich. Apparently there is no respect for a person in sarvana bhavana if she is eating alone. As I arrived to sarvana bhavana in Munich, I could see people were dining obviously there was no alone person. As I arrived I waited for waitresses to show me my table. So she showed me table which was indeed congested. I could see there were many table empty Atleast 20 new people can come in and have seat. But she insisted on me seating in that corner where no person would seat. Her reason was ‘ that’s the only option’ yeah that was only option for me to leave restaurant. Sarvana bhavana I have been to Brussels and Rome. This is my go to option during travel. But now I won’t recommend to anyone as it lacks hospitality completely for single person dining.

The best authentic South Indian restaurant we have ever visited in the whole of Europe. Nobody could offer the dosa better than them. The chutneys and sambar were very close to the original.The staffs were really friendly.

We went around 10:45 for brunch. I had a great experience in India and I was expecting the same here as well. I am really glad to say that it was as delicious as expected. We had 3 different kinds of dosa, mini idli, and idli as well. All of them were super delicious and the spice level was perfect (I mean at least for Indians 😜). We also tried the special milk tea and it was just okayish. Unfortunately we were not super satisfied with the tea. Anyway, our overall experience was great.

Genuinely writing after visiting multiple times. Not doing any comments on Food. Because food was as normal as Indian food i tried in Germany. But the Behavior with Customer was really too too Bad. Maybe not Positive behavior for Food Servicing Chain. Multiple times i saw their Behavior was totally Arrogant with Indian Customers, after that you might think that you're eating Food there Free. But at a same time behavior with other than Indian was too too Polite. They Should work on this small things of Gestures. Even it's your Hotel Industry and it works on Politeness and Calm Behavior with Customers.

Portions are good and food looks good visibly. Taste is a compromise to be made if you wish to eat authentic South Indian food. Also unclean bathrooms, tiny spaces to sit and terrible tea and coffee.

Durchs Fenster habe zahlreiche Inder unter den Gästen gesehen und mich spontan zum Besuch entschieden: Volltreffer! Von den zahlreichen Gerichten, die auf den Nachbartischen standen, habe ich mir eines ausgesucht, s. Bild. Jedes der kleinen Töpfchen mit markantem, teils scharfem und immer gutem Geschmack. Neben Bindaas und Madame Chutney einer meiner liebsten Inder in München.

The food is always tasty especially the thosas and vadas. Some can be quite hot though so be sure to ask about the spice level. We have been there a few times and interestingly whenever we asked for water, two times in a row they gave us a dirty bottle (somehow stained with curd). The place is always crowded and seating space is limited. I am not sure why they have to bring the starters and mains almost at once when the table space cannot fit them so service wise can benefit with some improvements.

I loved all the food i had tried, Medu vada, Idli, Masala dosa, Mango lassi. I didn't ask for spicy or extra spicy, and when i got the order specially the Masala dosa, it was too spicy, so if you can't tolerate spicy better to tell them before. If you're visiting on the weekends or Friday night better to reach before 7pm, so that you don't have to wait for too long in the queue. They serve north and south Indian cuisine, but i would suggest trying dishes like any dosa for the main course. For appetizers, Idli or Medu vada would be best. Any lassi would be good for a dessert or side drink. I liked their service, super fast even though the restaurant was full, and quite good staff. I had tried booking a reservation but they said to come direct even though i had to stay in the queue before getting served, so it seems they aren't accepting reservations. The guy who handles seating arrangements would come to you and write down the number of people you are. They serve completely vegetarian food.

I ordered Chana Bhature and onion masala dosa, bhature was too oily and chane was like using same gravy all over, not at all good in taste compare to Frankfurt Sarvana bhavan. Onions in dosa were not cooked Mango lassi was also not good, suggest not to order mango lassi from there instead go to rewe and buy bio mango lassi

I went there last week and ordered masala ghee dosa and mysore dosa. It didn't taste good and the sambhar was full of salt. It was not even 10% of the authentic sambhar taste as it didn't have the tangy flavour too. I feel their food quality has degraded and I don't know why (I noticed they also use TRS ghee whose quality is also not good nowadays in Munich Indian Stores). Saravana Bhawan was used to be my favourite go-to-eat place but now I don't know what happened to their food quality.

I found the place quite average. Not bad. But there other good Indian restaurants. They should also work on their tables arrangement. Its very very close to each other even they have good space. Bathrooms were also not cleaned.

Ambience made me feel that i was in India. Food taste was like it is cooked in India and not Germany. The staff were a little unpolite as they offered a bad location for seating despite requests and further hygiene and ambience can be improved like the Frankfurt branch,
