We are regular visitors since some time now and we sadly will be forced to look for alternatives soon... Though student labour is cheap, it comes with a costs of extremely bad service. Especially when every month there are new ones with less experience. 30+mins to take orders, burnt batura served after having waited 45+mins, paneer dosa server with blocks of paneer inside instead of grated paneer, main course comes before the starters and finally the mix veg Parota supplied with Schezwan sauce... Ofcourse, the burnt batura was replaced after we complained and the mix veg Parota sent back..we settled for the block paneer dosa as we were super hungry after the 30min wait. Dear Owner/Manager, I appreciate you providing opportunities for students, however at least at the key posts, think of hiring experienced personell. Saravana brand without quality and service doesn't help. The place is extremely chaotic and the relaxed, quality meal is missed unless the visit is in odd hours. Hoping to visit Saravana bhavan soon and encounter a better experience.

The food was great, but it took more than 90 minutes to all be served what we ordered. The staff were endlessly apologetic, but all they offered as recompense was a 15% discount, which is pretty poor. Not recommended, unless you don't have time pressures - or just want dosa, which appeared almost instantly.

Food is bad . Especially the coconut chutney

It's a good place to have South Indian food, no doubt, but please avoid ordering their North Indian specialities like Kathi roll. We ordered one and regretted wasting our money. It was basically a supermarket bought tortilla wrap with filling

The name of this place should be Diljeet because, The people of this place are like Parminder and the soul, heart, mind and feet of this place are the same. Wow wow wow! Try Paneer Dosa!

Everything except the Mysore Masala was great. This dish is typically spicy and special. Their Berlin version is bland and should not be called Mysore ‘Masala’….there was no ‘Masala’. Should atleast ask when taking the order. Spoilt my whole experience. Informed the management …

Been here few times and the standards have reached an all time low.

The food was amazing It was just spectacular I ordered dosa for my main meal and gulab jamun for dessert and mango lassi. REALLY WORTH IT however the staff was just plain and simply rude very annoying and obnoxious. The waitress who was taking my order looked depressed and unhappy and really mean when asked questions. I wanted to try more food but it was not worth asking questions because of the lack of manners on the staff part. Also the main entrance is blocked made no sense. Food is a must try but hope you don't have the same issue with the waitresses.

The food is incredibly delicious and 100% recommended. The service, however, is one of the worst I have experienced. The owner should think carefully about the choice of personnel. Even though the food was so fantastic, I won't be returning because of the poor service.

The service is very bad, even though there are so many staff, everything takes forever. Our food order was forgotten. The dosa was cold when it arrived and that too in summer. You have to create it first. Everything took too long and was listless. The music was too loud. And the delivery went through the entire guest area. There was no tip. Every Amrit in Berlin is better.

Standard food, terrible service

Sad and stale food, especially the dosas. I've gone here 4 times and each time it has been a disappointment. Also, the waiters seem overworked -- the manager should be paying them more and hiring more help.

Food was tasteless, sloppy presentation and the staff were unfriendly, not even making eye contact. Never recommending this restaurant to anyone, there are soooo many other amazing Indian restaurants in Berlin. I waited 20-25 minutes for the waiter to take my order. And I ordered masala dosa. All the side dishes was taste different than normal.especially the coconut chutney. I say to the guy who take my order and he talk with the chef say sometimes it like this . It was the worst food and worst customer service. Then i try to talk with the chef about the chutney at the time they throw the chutney and they try to making new chutney. Food: 2/10 Service :0/10

Parminder took the wrong order and after 45 minutes after she took the right order I had to end up cancelling it. She was totally nonchalant and unapologetic about it. I ended up having no dinner. Terrible service.

Really authentic South Indian taste. The dosa s, starters, Chinese dishes on the menu all are very tasty. My favorite is mixed veg parotha and kaima idly. A must try

Being a South Indian, I know what authentic with Indian food tastes like, and this is nowhere close. The Vada was not properly cooked nor was it crispy enough. The coconut in the chutney was old, and had a spoiled taste. Sambhar and Chai was full of water and very diluted. The service and ambience were equally bad. We ordered an ice cream, which we didn't even receive. On hot summer days it's like a sauna inside. Paints were worn out on the walls. Overall a very underwhelming experience.

We had a masala dosa with filter coffee , chole bhature with lassi. Dosa was pretty nice you can ask for sambhar and chutney again. But chole bhature seems not like chole bhature 😅. As you see the gravy is light yellow with lot of coconut it was nice in taste I would say but not the chole we have with bhature. My husband liked the filter coffee it was strong. Over all experience was nice You can try once.

It was very terrible today… We were really looking forward to the food. We've never seen a waitress like that and didn't even ask if everything was okay. She went to the back and looked at us and gossiped with another waitress. Very rude...😡 When we are in Berlin we never eat there again. You have to value the customers! We didn't feel comfortable in there. With a waitress like that you will definitely lose customers. In my opinion you don't even deserve one star.

Recently,last weekend, when I visited the restaurant, it was not upto the expectations (as i was expecting a good chutney with dosa). Service and Food were good except for the quality of white chutney (weird taste) and onion oothapam (not properly cooked). Chana Bhatura and Mixed veg parotta were really good (I recommend).

Nice food, but too spicy for us, even if we asked before ordering how spicy the dishes were ("a little bit" was the answer). Part of the staff was friendly, others... not so much.

The food is okay but the price is not, given that almost all dishes have the same chutneys, which should help reduce the price. The service was awful, the waitress was plain rude, made a mistake when taking our drink order (although we had been making sure she got it right) and told us it was our fault when she brought it to the table, some dish orders got mixed up or given to the wrong people, we were served at different times and couldn't eat together. The room is very loud and the lighting is very in your face, which also isn't that nice. Plus, they don't take reservations on the weekend. Don't go. There has got to be better Indian restaurants in town.

Very good experience. The service is very helpful in explaining the different dishes (even when it is very busy, they make time!). The food is delicious and it's nice that everything is vegetarian.

i was a huge fan of Sharavana Bhavan but since last year I noticed that the service and quality of food was becoming bad. Last week I went to Sharavna bhavan in Berlin . The waitress behaved so rude . She behaved like she is doing me a favour by giving me the menu . Moreover I found a little hair in my food. I was already overwhelmed with the service so My other friend also went last week on a different day and she also told me today that the waitress there behaved so bad . IMPORVE ! Shamen on You!

We ordered Special meals, masala dosa and medu vada. Vada was anything but „medu“. It had become hard and felt old. The sides with special meals were substandard. The coconut used for these dishes had an off smell. Rasam and a side made bitter-gourd was good. Masala dosa was better than all of these. Service is okay, and atmosphere is very nice.

We had a terrible experience today. It was a weekday and not that crowded. It took more than 30+ mins to get the food. The idly and vada was so hard (lump of urad dal batter) and the vada was in the shapeless. Well I wouldn't have a problem with the shape if they didn't call themselves world's no.1 Indian vegetarian restaurant . Vegetarian restaurant. Very long menu, it's a pity that there are no photos of individual dishes - it would definitely make the choice easier. The food was good, but it was served gradually to individual people (not to the entire table at once), which meant that the first ones ate and the rest watched and waited. The service definitely couldn't keep up. 90% of the guests are Indians, so if they like it, then it's supposed to be that way. I recommend.

The food is just fine, there are so many better Indian restaurants in Berlin, and this one has the obvious disadvantage of not serving meat. The service was terrible: the waitress was rude, they took too long, messed up the orders, gave them to the wrong people, delivered in separate times (we were a group), and it was too expensive. The atmosphere is also terrible, it's located in one of the worst areas of Berlin (Potsdamer Platz sucks), the interior design is very uninspired, the shape of the restaurant is really weird and uncomfortable, it's super loud and overall not welcoming at all.

We arrived with anticipation and had to leave the restaurant very disappointed. Service was very unfriendly and we were given a table very heartlessly. The waitress ignored us and refused to take our order. Despite being observed several times, we waited longer than 20 minutes. We weren't even asked if everything was okay, instead we were just stared at. The food was ready within a few minutes, which was also very disappointing. Not recommendable. One should do the work with love. Because we don't come to pay for unfriendly and not fresh food.

The service was very poor. One waitress in particular was very unfriendly because we were completely ignored at the beginning despite being observed several times. The waitress took more than 20 minutes to take our order. I would prefer not to give any stars at all. The best part comes at the end because the food was ready within 5 minutes. Overall, we were not satisfied with either the quality or the taste. And for the future, please hire better staff who also enjoy doing the job.

Favourism and contacts get you tables in rush hours ! We were waiting for 25 mins and so do other people, There were 3 girls who came and they had a friend working in Saravana bhavan, they were given the table before all other guests who were waiting for a long time. I can literally name the guy who did this, but do not want him to get in trouble ! It's really the worst experience , when employees give place to their friends and contacts rather than people who are waiting for a long time.

I ordered a South Indian meals and it was ok ok. I would rank this branch of saravanabhavan the least favorite out of all the other branches I have tried in Europe.

Food is amazing but the students who serve are pretty much tired of serving, they should do well as it is also their job they have chosen. Could see some waiters are disinterested serving and not responsive. They could do better.

frankfurt saravana bhavan is better than berlin's. taste wise food was average. we had bad experience with service lady. she was very rude to my 4 year old daughter which made her mood off for quite a long time.

Just FYI this restaurant hires lawyers and appeals Google to remove honest comments for defamation. So take what you found here with a grain of salt. Just to rephrase my review, the food is extremely fatty, dosa cooked with excessive amount of vegetable oil (not ghee). If it’s your thing, go for it.

26/07/2024: Keep Deleting! Will keep posting! 😊 Try to provide honest response to honest reviews instead of removing altogether. Just trusted the name and went in but was disappointed. Nothing felt or tasted like HSB. More like a North Indian restaurant. The sambar, chutneys, idly and vada served were not fresh at all and reheated. Even what we had on Saturday noon was not fresh. Horrible service to top it all. Requested the spectacled guy at the take away counter to add some sugar to the take away idly parcel for my kid(horrible chutneys) but was told that sugar can't be added to idly(maybe a failed stand up comedian I suppose). Avoid at any cost and save your bucks.

My worst experience of Sarvana Bhawan. I have been to many sarvana across the world. This is the worst. Not authentic South Indian taste. No proper service. Manager is rude.

You gave me the worst stomach problems I've had in years! You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to forcefully delete 2 year old honest reviews...

The restaurant will not take your order unless you order 3 times. They ignore you when you have a low order value. They will also not provide you with a table if you are not in a group.

Even though its in a good place and ambience is good but the Staff are rude and food is not upto standards , tea was just hot water and upon asking the staff are adamant that it's supposed to be that way , vada was not enough fried, the chutney was bad..overall a bad experience..guess this is taken over by some north management and brand is spoilt. it's the overall staff interaction experience, your staff said each person prepares tea and prefers different taste, is that what you tell your customer especially being a franchisee who is supposed to have a standard authentic taste ?..this is pathetic response from your manager...yes I agree the coffee was good but what about the rest of the stuff ?... come on Again your manager has a stupid remark that we were expecting Andhra food...we are nowhere close to Andhra and we were expecting authentic South Indian food and you mess it up is unacceptable.

I have taken a Mysore masala dosa and it didn’t taste as a Saravana Bhavan dosa. It appears like the chutney was made out of frozen coconut and it tasted horrible and 2nd chutney was bitter too. But Sambar still tasted authentic. Overall the food quality was bad.

Food was just time pass . Service was very bad. No body come for give the menu card. No body come for ask about how was food or you need something. Only one waiteress asking. But alone cannot does nothing. When 1 food came . Anothe given after when 1 person finished. Its famous just as name

Very tasty but relatively loud when it's full

The food quality has really deteriorated . The medu vada was half cooked and had too much atta. The dosa was very thick. Sambhar with medu vada was minuscule. They kept our baby stroller outside and never informed us when it started raining. Won’t be going there for a long time

Good Bhartiya food at prominent place of Berlin, specifically south Bhartiya in regionable price, severice was fast and courtesies.

Had milagaipodi dosa and suffered from upset stomach next day. Podi dosa is not about packing powder podi inside a dosa - which is what they did. For non Tamil folks visiting here, they might not have any frame of reference so they will love this food. But for Tamils who have had great food from their mothers and from good hotels including Saravana Bhavan in Tamilnadu, they might find the food ordinary. Not as great as the Tamilnadu ones. But pretty ok though. The coffee was a bit weak. The dosa chutney was a bit cold. The idli was not fresh. Vada was a bit hard. But if you are a German/ non Tamil person, you should try this place. This is almost as good as it gets for an Tamil restaurant in Berlin

Not authentic south Indian/ Saravana bhavan. Don't recommend any dishes and that's the truth. Having eaten in Saravana bhavans across Germany this one is the one that couldn't get even 1 dish decently .won't recommend any dosa items or bhatura or vadai.

Disappointing service. If you're lucky enough to get everything you ordered, the taste is usually fine thanks to their standardised sambar and chutneys that they use across dosa dishes - some semblance of consistency with other branches. Some non-dosa dishes don't even taste good though, like the shredded parotta with mixed veg. With SB being a Tamil restaurant I expected a proper kothu parotta and even confirmed with the waiter that that's what it was. Instead, what we got had some generic indo-chinese artificial sauce. On the other hand, if they lose part of your order and leave you waiting for 1.5 hours, until you go straight to the cooks and realise they don't have your items in their queue at all, it's just written off as bad luck. While waiting, we had asked 3 people to check on the missing items and they all said "it's coming". It definitely was not. No accountability or apology unless you squeeze it out of them. The manager seems very callous about the service inefficiencies because people are always streaming in anyway.

I saw all the bad Google reviews yet decided to give it a try and failed miserably as I WAS REFUSED SERVICE BECAUSE I WAS ALONE. The floor manger lady said "it's a Friday more people will come so I cannot give you a table since you are alone", while there were other single people occupying 4 seaters. Felt so discriminated against !!!!! WORST PLACE EVER. Please stop going to this place there are much better Indian restaurants in Berlin.

my biggest concern is the taste, i travel around the world, i care about the quality of food. we ordered bunch to see anything that would be okay . unfortunately the quality is bad and the price is too expensive. i guesss they want to take advantage of the desperate tourists who come here for vegetarian also i saw lots of non indian customers who don’t have any clue about vegetarian food. the owner picked good spot . i wish tourists have other options. local indians please do a group fund and open some veg indian restaurant . service is okay.

Very poor food quality, worst experience from Saravana Bhavan.

Shadow of what we expected from HSB. Dosa was mediocre and devoid of ghee even after ordering ghee masala roast. Sambar vada tasted and felt like it was drenched in water. And medu vada was dry and bland . Disappointed and shocked.

The food was okay, but the service was very bad. A very unfriendly waitress served relatively heartlessly and had trouble dealing with non-Hindi speaking guests. No greeting, absolutely nothing. At the bar she was joking with the other employees. You should recruit your employees carefully. There was a waitress there afterwards who served very friendly and helpfully, but the first one ruined our evening.

I've been a regular at Sarvanabhavan for the past 2 years, always enjoying their dosas and idli. Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill in recent months. During my last visit, we waited 30 minutes despite empty tables. It felt like they prioritized serving non-Indian customers over us. We were eventually seated in front of the kitchen with dirty plates, and no one paid attention to our table. Very disappointing experience.

Not only the place where you would not come back but also the one you would never recommend. This restaurant is below average especially in service. The food is good and the prices are acceptable. The service is disappointing: We had to call the waiter to order because he would not come by himself after more than 10 minutes of idling. 20 minutes later only one dish arrived. When we asked, the waiter could not give us a good explanation. He did not even give us an explanation after he went checking. We found this rude. We decided to pay for what we had excluding the dish that was not served.

We visited Sarvana bhavan and really enjoyed the food. Also, Parmindar gave us amazing service and was super sweet to us. Thank you.

I've been in Germany for 2 years. I tried Indian cuisines at many places, and I have come to the conclusion that Saravanaa Bhavan is the best experience for me so far. And I think it'll be very difficult to find a better place than this, At least in Germany, to enjoy Indian cuisines in the near future. To be honest Saravanaa Bhavan in Munich was not that good of an experience for me. But when it comes to Berlin branch, I bet you'll enjoy it. That's it....

Stopped by when noticed the place is full of people on Sunday night. Well seasoned sauces. Excellent mango lassi. Recommended if you like indian food.

Good luck with that scheswan sauce, the spice really kills you lol, otherwise dosa was good

At the beginning I (an omnivore without much knowledge of Indian cuisine) was overwhelmed with the selection. After friendly advice, I decided on a dosa with the warning that it was spicy and the service was right, spicy for the German palate, of course. The worry that I won't get full should disappear before I finish the very tasty and fabulously seasoned meal. The location is simple but is a bit pressed by the concrete block of Potsdamer Platz.

Food is tasty and good. But service has still not improved even after multiple years. After the order is taken, any further simple requests will be dealt with only after two or three repeated requests with long delays in between waiting hopelessly. Example: a mere tea spoon, a second sambhar bowl (which is mass prepared for those who don't know what sambhar is). I do understand that less count of service personnel compared to the number of tables is an issue, but that does not mean that after order is placed, any further simple requests will be ignored so many times.

We visited Saravanaa Bhavan in Berlin twice and sampled a variety of dishes including Sambar Vada, Idli, Masala Dosa, Rava Masala Dosa, Chole Bhature, Bisibele Bath, and Paneer Fried Rice. Among these, we highly recommend the Rava Masala Dosa, Sambar Vada, and Idli, which authentically matched the flavors of the Chennai Saravanaa Bhavan. While the sambar was consistently excellent, the chutney could have been fresher on both visits. It's advisable to stick to the South Indian offerings, as the North Indian dishes we tried were average in comparison, which is understandable given the restaurant's specialization in South Indian cuisine. Despite this, we look forward to returning for the dosas and sambar.

Simply it's the best south Indian restaurant living up to it's name.its Dosa heaven - rava dosa, utappam, masala dosa. Tip: mostly go for South Indian food. Don't try North Indian or Chinese menu items

Food is amazing. Only one problem - if you have so many empty tables then why does your staff have a problem if we choose any table we like. (FYI: the table we wanted to sit in was not reserved) Required some hospitality and manners. Also the plate is not cleaned.

I have been eyeing on this one since long. So i ordered a Dosa and Uttpam. I had high hopes particularly because I loved their dishes in India whereever I tried. But it was didn't meet my expectations. Both dishes were loaded with onions. They changed the kind of ingredients which traditionally go into the recipe and they changed the quantities and ratio of ingredients as well. Plus, their Sambhar and Chutney wasn't special. After trying them, I felt like I could have rather prepared dosa, uttpam and chutneys at home. But the service was quick.

I odered ghee roast podi dosa. Way too spicy and not buttery enough.. The North indian dishes that my friends ordered were nicer. Pity that South India's signature dish is not up to the mark :/

This establishment is exceptional, offering what I believe to be authentic dosas. Having missed the taste of dosas from my hometown, I am delighted to have found a place that serves them so well. Additionally, the prices are quite reasonable, making it an excellent choice for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine.

Although the ambience was really good, we felt really let down by the food and especially the staff. Being a South Indian, I definitely can vouch for the fact that it was one of the most underwhelming dining experiences. The starter (gobi manchurian) was served after we finished our main course!! 😅And apparently, they only serve it as a gravy which is usually not the norm - so we would have modified our order if they had informed us before we confirmed it. The chutneys served with dosa were really sub standard - really really bland and lacking any flavour. We then ordered tea which basically was just tea leaves’ flavoured water with probably a drop or two of milk. When asked if it can be made better similar to how we get it in India, the staff was really rude with their response and said that’s the only way they make it and they themselves have it twice or thrice a day and it seems fine to them so they can’t make it for us. After a bit of back n forth conversation one of the guys serving offered to get us coffee instead of the tea - appreciate that. But overall, it was a bad experience. Suggest the management to look at maintaining the authenticity by having a South Indian chef and staff as well. At the moment, I do not recommend this place at all for anyone looking to have authentic South Indian food as it is a really sad mockery of it.

It was my first experience with saravanna bhavan. But my husband had food many times in different branch of this south Indian restaurant. Dosa and South Indian Thali was good. But too busy. You have to be in quee to get your table.

For the first time, it was a nice experience. Good tastes really good, I’m not an expert in Indian food, but everything seemed well prepared, fresh and warm. I just noticed a bit of disorganization while getting the orders and serving. A table that arrived before me got their orders after mine, for my order, the beers came 5min after three food 🤷🏻‍♂️ Apart of that, staff is friendly. By the amount of claims regarding the same issues, a training with the team would be helpful. I will be happy to visit again anyway.

To be honest it is disappointing to see Saravana Bhavan as a brand and the quality to decrease in such a way. There is only one sambhar for all dishes. The taste of each dish was not at all as it is supposed to be. Food is good only when it’s made fresh! :( Both type of Vadas should be crispy and crunchy which was not the case. Gobimunchurian is supposed to be dry and as a starter - Which we received after main dish. Tea and coffee from SB is supposed to be the best but unfortunately even this was very poor. The staff are really good but please try to get the taste of SB back as it was, so that people come and visit to eat their favourite dish when they are outside india.

Visit to a known restaurent in another town :) The Food was great as always. The food took some time to come and one order did not come at all (45 minutes). Once we were done, we asked for cancelling that order but then it was almost ready :) The place was crowded in the evening so wasnt too quiet but that is to be expected. Servers were polite and friendly.

Even though its in a good place and ambience is good but the Staff are rude and food is not upto standards , tea was just hot water and upon asking the staff are adamant that it's supposed to be that way , vada was not enough fried, the chutney was bad..overall a bad experience..guess this is taken over by some north management and brand is spoilt. Response : it's the overall staff interaction experience, your staff said each person prepares tea and prefers different taste, is that what you tell your customer especially being a franchisee who is supposed to have a standard authentic taste ?..this is pathetic response from your manager...yes I agree the coffee was good but what about the rest of the stuff ?... come on Again your manager has a stupid remark that we were expecting Andhra food...we are nowhere close to Andhra and we were expecting authentic South Indian food and you mess it up is unacceptable.
