Saravanaa Bhavan Berlin in Berlin

Last week, I visited Saravana Bhavan with my office colleagues. I usually don’t post reviews, but this time they truly deserve recognition. Food: Everything was excellent. The ghee roast masala, paneer butter masala, and garlic naan were all flavourful and delicious. The pricing is reasonable for the area. Service: I met Roshan and Sowmiya. Both had very good knowledge about all the dishes, and they fulfilled all our needs. I genuinely felt the warmth I get back home — that girl had it. Both of them were well-coordinated, and our food and overall experience were top-notch. Atmosphere: The place is a little crowded, but you can still have a conversation comfortably. Last update: Because of the great experience, we went again this week. This time only Sowmiya was there, so we specifically asked her to take our order. Once again, it was a great experience. We wanted the same combination of staff to look after us, but unfortunately the boy wasn’t there. Thanks to Saravana Bhavan for having staff like this. Now you earned a regular customer ❤️ Tip to guests: If you need help choosing food, ask these two. They can genuinely improve your experience. Recommendation: Ghee roast masala, paneer butter masala, mango lassi, and palak paneer cheese dosa

One of the more authentic Indian food I’ve had in Berlin. Real spice, real flavors filled with depth. It’s a franchise so they actually got locations globally. We ordered the thali but found it okay and bit bad in value. I think everyone comes here for the dosas which looked very good as I peeped at our neighbors. At least the thali curries are spicy enough and not bland like in many other Indian places in town. Appreciated the kick. All in all good service, great all vegetarian menu. Also the mango lassi was just fine not too sweet. Highly recommend for more authentic flavors!!

The last visit at Saravanaa Bhavan Berlin was an average experience. The waiters took 30 minutes to handover the Menu. Each waiter were avoiding the eye contact so that they cannot attend us ! It was really surprising. Finally I had to call a waiter explicit to attend my table. But they were really polite and cordial. The food was okay, the Sambhar was not hot. It was really cold. The sambhar vada and Mini idly tastes best with Hot sambhar and not the cold one. The Chilly Cauliflower was slightly salty.

Every thing is ok except cost,we can try UK foods instead Saravana bhavan foods as the Indian foods are very much costly

We came here on the recommendation of Indian colleagues to try more authentic South Indian cuisine, with suggestions on what to order. It was very exciting and something completely different. The food tasted good, but was a bit too mild for my taste. Unlike other Indian restaurants, the food wasn't heavy on the stomach, and the portions were generous. The prices were typical for Potsdamer Platz, but not overpriced. The selection of dishes is very large, and the restaurant is very popular with people of Indian descent. The service was friendly but only in English. It's often very crowded and cramped, not exactly cozy. We will come back and try other dishes next time.

Honestly I felt the authentic saravana bhawan taste was missing.. it just felt like a very very common south Indian restaurant . I've had Saravana bhawan food in Chennai, Delhi and even Dubai where I felt they maintain the authentic taste .. But unfortunately here it was missing

There’s most of the waiting at this place. I like only the South Indian dishes here honestly, rest of them didn’t feel great to me. I go here for the paper roast masala dosa, I feel it’s the closest to what I get back home comparing the size, the crisp and the filling. The filter coffee is good and makes me feel nostalgic. Too crowded on the weekends. No special waiting area and you would need to wait outside in the cold if it’s winter.

Raw dosa, idli and wada. Even the lunch thali was underwhelming with uncooked paratha and stale rice. Surprising to see this chain not keeping up to the reputation worldwide.

Uninspired food & lukewarm service!

We had our lunch in Berlin on November 23, 2025, but were totally disappointed with the taste of the food. The lunch was overpriced at 22 Euros per thaali, and the quantities (may be approx. 10 gms.) of the dishes were more suitable for a kid than for an adult. While one can understand the cost of materials and the location do have an impact, needless to say, it was a money grab. Further, there was no authentic taste of the dishes served. Additionally, we wanted water, which was promptly provided. However, when we received the bill, we were charged a whopping 6.75 Euros for that. The approximate price of bottled water in Berlin is about 1 Euro. The table attendant never mentioned that we would be charged for water. Another way of making money. There was no cap on the bottle either, and we were not sure if the water inside the bottle was original or bottle filled with tap water.

We were very surprised by the good reviews. The service was terrible, the staff unfriendly and unprofessional, the atmosphere was awful, and there wasn't even any tableware (see photos in other reviews). I cannot recommend this "restaurant."

Good South Indian food with a reasonable price

A superb Indian restaurant at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Service and food were impeccable. Despite this, the atmosphere is relaxed and informal.

Delicious and good Indian food, of a similar quality as one would find anywhere in the UK.

The restaurant is spacious, clean, and offers appreciable service. A bit on the expensive side. However, I wish the food tasted more authentic. I tried some of the mainstream dishes, but they lacked the OG flavor. Perhaps the ingredients are to blame, and I hope they fix this soon.

Dear team, it is not worth to lose a regular customer over 3 euros. If you make a mistake and bring something wrong to the table (wrong water bottle), dont charge the difference. This is a matter of politeness. Disappointed.

I went back after a long time, having stopped visiting because of repeated disappointments. It used to be the best Indian restaurant in Berlin, but not anymore. Even the dosas have gone downhill — mine was soft, undercooked, and mostly white. I didn’t say anything since the service is still below average, and there’s no point in trying to talk to them. The South Indian thali is listed on the menu but not available, which is surprising for a place that specializes in South Indian food. The North Indian thali was okay. Prices went up we paid 40 euros for 2 dishes.

Do not order Idli.Tried twice and everytime its re-heated, salty ,stone thingy..

We were 5 people. Each one of us ordered one dish and one drink. While we were eating the waiter asked us 3 or 4 times if everything was okay and if we wanted to order something else. My dish was nothing crazy: a plate of rice and a plate of liquid spinach with things inside, my friends had better tasting dishes. After eating and talking for like 40min, the waiter came with the manager and asked us to pay, because they needed the table. One friend was charged too much by mistake for one dish, she had to ask the money back. At this point it was a normal restaurant experience, space a bit loud, waiter a bit pushy, but all good. The next morning while I was going to the office, in the tram I felt like I needed to go urgently to the toilet. Arrived at the office I had to run to the toilets because I was about to shit in my pants. I don't recommend this restaurant, I've eaten plenty of asian restaurants, lebanese, döner etc and have never been sick like that.

The food was…fine. I’ve had much better Indian. The portion sizes (for the biryani in particular) were not good for the price. Also, they brought out one of our party’s orders 10 minutes before the rest. It was very awkward.

We ate here with a large group. Since we were quite overwhelmed by the wide selection of dishes, we asked the staff to bring us the best ones. That was an excellent decision! We all enjoyed a selection of everything the menu had to offer and had a wonderful time – a fantastic culinary experience. Our waiter, Jugraj, in particular, made our evening even more enjoyable with his friendly and attentive manner. We'll definitely be back!

Ordered onion rava dosa. Batter had sour taste. With help of mango lassi.. Completed it. Really chef has to improve and taste the batter. Not a good experience.

Okay, where do I even begin... At first, we were a little overwhelmed by the extensive and authentic menu. Then the nicest waiter ever arrived. No joke! We had asked him to surprise us with a selection of dishes. Jugraj (our waiter) was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. What followed was the best restaurant experience we've had in ages! We were served a truly diverse range of dishes that perfectly satisfied us. I've rarely encountered such friendly service; I'm speechless! Thank you so much for the unforgettable evening; we will definitely try to come back soon. It was my first time in Berlin, and I'm absolutely thrilled. This evening was the perfect end to the week!

The food and drinks were very tasty, but the white rice was tasteless. And our problem was that while no one was waiting to be seated, they were quickly clearing our plates while I was still eating.

A mediocre Indian chain restaurant with an overloaded menu and, during our visit, somewhat overwhelmed but still friendly staff (simply too few people for the number of guests). However, it's acceptable for the prices charged right on Potsdamer Platz. There are, however, much better Indian restaurants in this price range in Berlin. The portions are comparatively small.

I'd ordered an Uthappam and if I personally tried to screw up the dish, I'd still make a better one than them. I'm not sure how they screwed my order up this bad.

The dosas are really good. The spice level is sort of local which is good. Their other food is tasty too. It mostly feels like it’s prepared with effort even when it is full to the brim.

I told the waiter I don't like spicy food and asked him to please choose a mild dish for me. Surprise, surprise! The only dish I ordered was incredibly spicy. Everyone with me came to the same conclusion: we won't be back. The dishes were so spicy you couldn't even taste the curry. I won't be returning, and I don't recommend it. The rice was reheated, everything was drenched in oil, and the beer was warm. In the end, the waiter's only solution was to bring me some yogurt to try and soothe the spiciness.

When you go for conventional South Indian you would be happy , indo Chinese stuff can disappoint

Loved the authentic dosa and the perfect filter coffee.

It was truly delicious – not too heavy, and despite the restaurant being at capacity, the food arrived quite quickly. However, we noticed that there are a lot of staff in the kitchen, but significantly fewer in the service department. So, they simply placed packaging on the table for us to pack our own food. I've never experienced anything like that before! Are we now being paid to do the job of the waitress? When we asked if this was normal, we received a friendly apology, pointing out that no one had the time. However, this seems to be a decision by management, which, in my opinion, displays a bit too much arrogance and ultimately also harms the service staff. So, unfortunately, we had no choice but to leave no tip – something we never do. It's a shame for the nice waitress, but service just doesn't look like that. Where else is this going to lead?

Worst experience! We ordered food and waited for one hour. The food was not even prepared after being seated for an hour. We ordered Dosa, nothing fancy. The waiting period can be understood but not when the food is being served to the tables who came after us and the being told that it’s based on when you order. Simply didn’t happen even after reminding.

Food was all in all good with proper Indian taste. But unfortunately * Dogs are not allowed inside *. It was quite surprising for us as I have never encountered this in any restaurant in Berlin including Indian restaurants as well.

Needed and Indian fix but unfortunately very mediocre Medu Vada was soft doughy, undercooked not crispy Group of 4 and last dosa came out 30 minutes after 1st dosa, had to flag down staff to figure out what was going on. Why can't they group the orders so all of our dosas are brought to the table at the same time?

What could be better than Indian taste when it comes to food and specially when you are on your business trip. I was staying in Berlin and craving for the Indian flavours, where I visited Sarvana Bhavan and it absolutely worked out the best for the entire trip. I will also highly appreciate the overall kind behaviour of Vipasha each and everyday where she mostly took our orders and addressed that our foodie needs are fulfilled. On top of it she also served us deserts as complimentaries. Anyone craving for Indian food can step in here and enjoyyy.

I visited Saravana Bhavan Berlin multiple times during my business trip for both lunch and dinner, as being a vegetarian this place has always been my go-to. What made my experience even better was the warm and welcoming service by Vipasha. She is extremely cooperative, humble, and greets customers with genuine politeness. I really appreciated how she took the time to understand my food preferences and ensured I got exactly what I needed. Her attentive and thoughtful approach makes dining here even more enjoyable. Thank you, Vipasha, for making my visits comfortable and pleasant. Saravana Bhavan is lucky to have such a dedicated team member.

I visited the restaurant few days ago. The food was okay but when i was paying the bill with card and wanted to give 15% tip on machine the waitress with specs told me to give tip in cash as she told me they don't get that tip of the machine as i didn't have any cash with me she didn't let me give tip on machine and later she behaved very poorly with us . Being a such famous and big chain of food the owner should look into these matters .

Tasty vegetarian food at reasonable prices. The menu has a lot of variety with South Indian, Indian Chinese and North Indian dishes. Very conveniently located. The service was quick and liked the ambiance of the place.

If you’re looking for authentic South Indian vegetarian food in Berlin, Saravanaa Bhavan at Potsdamer Platz is a solid choice. The menu is extensive, with all the classics, mainly dosa, idli, vada, rasam, and more. I really enjoyed the masala dosa and medhu vada; they were close to what you’d expect in Chennai, with good sambhar and chutneys on the side. But Drink came after we finished our food.

My meal was very good. We sat outside on a side street, which was okay, but I've had better outside seating.

• Service (2/5): A dessert I ordered seemed forgotten. When I asked for the bill and requested to cancel it, the dessert was brought immediately afterward and the cancellation wasn’t acknowledged. • Payment/Receipt: Told the card machine wasn’t working and asked to pay cash; we were not given a printed receipt at payment so we took a screenshot instead. • Food (2/5): I think it was below average; portions felt small for the price. We ordered items including Paneer Korma (€13.25) and Vegetable Butter Masala (€12.50). • Ambience (3/5): Okay.

My roommate went to this place and she made it clear she has a severe nut allergy!! Anything remotely close to contamination would result in a terrible reaction. So badly… she had to use an EpiPen! She’s eaten there before and perhaps this time around the service didn’t pay close attention and allowed exactly that to happen. This is very upsetting because the food can be good but if the service doesn’t take care of the customers then it’s not worth going to. We will not be coming back.

I've been to this their other branches and have usually got excellent food. The dosa here was a bit on the average side and the taste wasn't up to par.

This is my second time trying a dosa in Berlin and Bhavan is for sure in the top tiers of providing amazing and very authentic South Indian cuisine. Their dosa was just amazing and was served with tasty condiments and sambar. To wash down the spicy chettinad dosa i had their salty lassi which was right on the spot. Highly recommended place.

Food was good but the waiters were very rude on us. Very unprofessional experience indeed. Also was very pushy on us to order fast and was literally feeling to leave the place on the spot.

Went there previously with a good experience and friendly service. Visited again today and told them I have a peanut allergy (same as last time) they said that they now sprinkle peanuts on all of the dosas and only the plain one would be safe for me to eat. What a disappointment :( they were quite rude when having this conversation with me and wouldn't offer any other alternatives from the menu, therefore I had to leave the restaurant. I'm confused why they could not just serve me a dosa without the peanuts element but nobody would give me the time of day to have that conversation. The place was half empty and plenty of staff working, there was no reason for how badly they handled this interaction.

Best South Indian dosas in Berlin, but go at the right time! I visited Saravanaa Bhavan Berlin twice in May with my parents. The first time was around 12:30 pm, and we ordered Rava Masala Dosa, Ghee Roast Masala Dosa, and two Filter Coffees. Everything was absolutely delicious. Crispy dosas, flavourful fillings, fresh chutneys, and the coffee was perfect. It felt authentic and reminded us of home. A week later, we went again in the evening around 7 pm with parents and two friends. Unfortunately, the experience was different. The food felt rushed, the spices were not as balanced, and the chutneys lacked the same freshness. It seemed like the busy evening hours impacted the quality. My suggestion: visit during less crowded times and stick to South Indian dishes, which are their specialty. The North Indian dishes on the menu don’t carry the same authenticity. Overall, Saravanaa Bhavan is still one of the better places in Berlin for authentic South Indian food, especially if you go at the right time.

The food is good, just as you'd expect in any Saravana Bhawan outlets. But they have the best playlist. I've been sitting here for a few minutes and I've already heard: Saans mein teri saans Mili toh, Do dil mil rahe hain, Dil Diyaan Gallan, Subhan Allah, and many other beautiful Bollywood instrumentals.

Vabasha provided exceptional service and recommended the Paneer Butter Masala Dosa, which tasted scrumptious. I also recommend the Madras ☕.

Delicious, authentic Indian dishes. All dishes are delicately spiced and generously sized. Good value. Best Indian restaurant in the district.

I love to visit this place for idli sambhar

We are regulars "HSB" back home and ended up here whilst on holiday. We had high hopes that it would match the international standard and it was a mixed bag. The regular fare of Dosa and Idly were on the mark. The channa Battura and paneer 65 could have done with more flavouring and I guess these are popular with locals and hence not made as spicy? Not sure. We were seated almost immediately and it was busy but a lively space adds to the ambience. Service was okay but they missed out on the water we had ordered mid-way but it was fine as we were hungry enough to demolish the food in minutes and be ready to leave. Overall not as high as we expected but if you stick to the traditional south Indian or the indo-chinese dishes you may get the authentic taste you want.

Good Indian restaurant. Great service and attentive staff. The sauces were good, as were the parota and naan. The fruit juices were very good and refreshing. The prices were a bit pricey, to be honest. Still, it was good! Plenty of vegetarian options, and some gluten-free options too!

It took them 10 minutes to bring us one dish, and then we waited an hour for the other three dishes we had ordered. Then, when we ordered another drink, they forgot to bring it, and we had to remind them to bring it. And when we ordered dessert, it took so long to come that we paid and left before they brought it to us.

We have had an absolutely pathetic experience! The food was extremely bad. The idlis were dry with crusting above. Medhu wada was so stale, might have easily been 2-3 days old, couldn’t take more than one bite.The dosa wasn’t fresh either! The puris were burnt and might have been refried. The food served wasn’t for human consumption. On complaining , the staff just wasn’t accepting it was stale while she could very well see it for herself. They only cancelled our idli Wada order. Never visiting again. Wish I could give minus stars. So terrible!

Its good In terms of price and quantity, other Indian restaurants are better usually

I had idlie vada, masala dosa and panner chilli. Best Dosa was really good and satisfying, chutney are nice but not out of the world. It can be made better. Panner chilli was really good. Hands down but why is it paired with rice? I wanted it dry but the option is not there or the waitress wasn't quite interested. But the other waiter was good! Worst Idlie vada wasn't good at all. It wasn't fresh it was too thick and not soft at all. With sambar it was fine but it was one of the worst idlies I have tried. What I recommend is get something which is freshly cooked like dosa uttapam. Not idlie which is cooked early morning and was sitting to dumped in the tummy. Das is alles !

Food was delicious, however the service was pathetic food served almost after 40 min of waiting…after asking them multiple times, their waiting time is too long to be patient.

Portions are outrageously small, especially for the price. They also do not give tap water. Will go to other Indian places. We did not enjoy our experience there.

If this is the “World’s No. 1 Restaurant,” the owner should seriously feel ashamed. With only 3 tables occupied and 4 staff on duty, how can the service be this bad? Our food came without spoons, the drinks never arrived until I asked at the bar myself, and the food was cold despite the wait. Saravanaa Bhavan prides itself on being world-class, but here, it’s clear the owner needs to take responsibility and fix this low-level service immediately. Customers deserve respect, not neglect. Please wake up and train your staff properly — this isn’t the standard anyone expects from a reputed name.

Food: they have a good variety of specialties that are rarely found at other places in Berlin. Service: my food was supposed to be ready for pickup but wasn’t. I waited for another 10 minutes before it was given to me. It was ready for pickup but nobody knew it was waiting at the counter. Also, one item was missing so I needed to return to the place where, again, nobody noticed my item was waiting at the counter.

Amazing place and heaven for vegetarian Indian food lovers. Right at the center of the city in the busiest of location. Right in front of Berlin wall ruins and train station. There is a big parking place nearby. All south Indian delicacies are a must have. Would not recommend Chana bhatura though. Place to accommodate 100+ folks at a time, but has waiting during busy hours. Do not take prior bookings.

I had a reservation for 6 people at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the menu was only available in English, and to get the German menu, you would have had to leave the restaurant and go out onto the street (very inconvenient). If you're unfamiliar with the dishes, it's difficult to choose one (there are hardly any photos), and the waitresses unfortunately don't speak German. Since several people didn't speak English and the waitresses couldn't advise us, we left.

I heard a lot about restaurant. I used this a lot in USA. But here in Berlin...this gives me the wrost experience. Not a lot supportive people. I will not recommend people to go here.

Ordered Chana Masala & Ghee Roast Masala Dosa. Chana Masala was not worth at all. The curry was really tomato taste and no other flavours. Dosa and masala was good taste however with the quantity of Masala, Sambhar & chutney being provided compared to the Size of the Huge Dosa is really unbelievable. Service was okay interms of attending guests, could have been more polite and welcoming and taking care of overall process after the food is served till the bill. No one paid attention after the food was served.

We ordered a plate with a ton of sauces, rice in the center, bread with butter, and bread with potatoes and other ingredients inside, and everything was very good. The service was a bit slow for the few people there. The prices were a bit high. The portions were reasonable. I would recommend it. The mango juice was delicious. There's gluten-free bread and plenty of vegetarian options.

Super yummy. By far the best Dosa i've tried in germany. Even the side gravy/sauce for the dosa is tasty. Serving was big too. Would definitely come again each time we visit Berlin.

The food was bad. We had diarrhea the next day. They gave us old croutons. And the waiters ripped us off for 20 euros.

I usually love Saravanaa Bhavan and am a regular at the restaurant. But off late, the quality of idlis have gone down. They are hard. Overall, I’m still a fan of the place. Dosas, Curd Vada, Rava Kesari, Puris and filter coffee were great. Tea is a bit too milky for my taste though. Staff are friendly and very gentle.

I’ve visited Saravana Bhavan Berlin (Potsdamer Platz) many times, and the service has been consistently disappointing. When seated outside, staff often ignore us—no menus are brought even though they see us. Food takes far too long to arrive, and the attitude feels indifferent, despite there being only 5–6 customers in a large restaurant. Food is fine, but the service makes the experience frustrating.

The fitting Rating would be 4,5*, because not alle the dishes here were spectacular… from my humble experience and also looking at other tables, next time i would only order south indian food, which was great !

Super delicious food, very authentic cuisine, but loud, more like a canteen atmosphere and we had to wait a very long time for our order. 2 out of 6 were forgotten and didn't get their food until the others were almost finished eating.

First you wait 10-15 minutes for the table, then you wait 25-35 minutes for the order to come and then you wait to pay as well The food is good but you can also be unlucky as it’s not always good. Also, the place is really loud.

We were on trip to Berlin , was excited to see Saravanaa Bhavan so decided to try but service was not good. They served desserts (chocolate ice cream) before main course , it would have been fine for me but our kids didn’t eat any main course because of that. We asked them nicely if they could bring it after the main course but they rejected. Took so much time for course.
