I ordered the onion rava masala dosa. No pictures as I couldn't wait to dig in :)

The restaurant has a very nice ambience and aesthetic feel to it. Food is great and it feels like proper south Indian food. Service might not be the best as they have a bit of a carefree attitude with them. Food might be expensive for someone from india but for what you get in Germany, it is very good.

We had cravings of Chinese so thought of ordering, Manchurian and Schezwan noodles,its the worst.Please don't order it!!! Also don't go to cuisine except South Indian food!!ITS ONLY RENOWNED FOR AUTHENTIC SOUTH INDIAN FOOD. Also they served Manchurian with rice!! PS- ordered Mysore masala dosa it was good but the potato vegetable was overcooked

Bewertung April 2023 (mit Familie): Endlich! Ein authentisches indisches Restaurant mit halbwegs zivilen Preisen, in dem es leckere, landestypisch gewürzte und auf traditionellen Blechtabletts angerichtete nord- und südindische Speisen gibt. Am liebsten hätte ich alles durchprobiert, musste mich aber auf Idli und Dosai bechränken und schwelgte bei jedem Bissen im Himmel. Das dazu gereichte Rasam (Suppe) schmeckte einfach göttlich. Allein das Mango-Lassi habe ich woanders bereits besser getrunken, aber auch hier fehlte es nicht an den richtigen Gewürzen. Die Tatsache, dass die Kundschaft überwiegend aus Inder/inne/n besteht, spricht für sich. Sollte ich mich wieder nach Frankfurt verirren sollen, wird das Saravanaa Bhavan ganz oben auf meiner To-do-Liste stehen. Bewertung August 2024 (allein): Das Essen ist noch immer sehr gut und authentisch, die Behandlung nicht. Zuletzt ließ man mich (alleinreisend) zehn Minuten in der prallen Mittagshitze vor der Tür des halbleeren Restaurants warten, während mehrere nach mir angekommene indische Gäste durchgewunken und auch sofort bedient wurden. Neben der offenslichtlichen Diskriminierung hat leider auch die Hygiene (Tische, Toiletten) beträchtlich nachgelassen. Die Lage im Bahnhofsviertel - direkt vor mir in der Moselstraße warfen zwei Polizisten eine drogenabhängige, betrunkene Person zu Boden, fesselten sie mit Handschellen und standen zu sechst für die Dauer meines Mittagessens neben dem gerufenen Streifenwagen - passte zum Ambiente diesmal wie das Tüpfelchen aufs "i". Auch wenn's weiterhin schmeckt (aber das tut es auch woanders), würde ich nicht so schnell ins Saravanaa Bhavan zurückkehren. Mit dieser Art von Verhalten vergrault man potentielle (europäische) Stammgäste (auf die man alledings keinen Wert zu legen scheint). Schade!

Service and atmosphere were good but unfortunately can’t say the same thing about the food. There was no masala in masala dosa 🤷🏻‍♂️ , when asked about it, they say this is how they serve it. We didn’t even get pickles or curd with aloo paratha. Came here for authentic food but was disappointed.

We tried Masala dosa, cheese masala dosa and Poori Kurma. We ordered veg noodles take away. All the dosa item was good. The vegetables noodles was really vegetable and noodles cooked there was no spices. I was expecting it to be like we get in item with pepper and noodles fried well in oil. Filter coffee was also okay. Did not remind me of India unfortunately. Hence I rated 3 for food. All of them were edible but not exceptional. I rated the service 3 as when I asked the service person on her recommendation on noodles she bluntly said “I have not eaten any”. I appreciate her honesty however I expect that people who work should know what is loved by their customers and sells well for taste.

Worst Savannah Bhavan experience ever! I’ve visited many Savannah Bhavan locations because I love the food, but this one in Germany was terrible. The restaurant was filthy, with staff not wearing hair nets or maintaining any basic hygiene standards. The restroom was disgusting—no water, no soap, and a terrible odor. The service was equally bad. The staff was rude, unwelcoming, and unprofessional. When I tried to order, they rolled their eyes and acted like I was a nuisance. They even threw the pen at me when I asked for one. Management needs to teach their staff proper hospitality and focus on cleanliness. I will never visit this place again.

Amazing and crispy masala dosa and yummy idli sambar.Just loved it!

As an authentic Indian cuisine connoisseur, I can attest that the taste is like home. The spiciness is medium. Not too little but not too much either. Nice atmosphere, but lots of crockery/utensils are noisy. Staff a bit moody. I found the price to be acceptable for Frankfurt. Will come again and try other dishes.

We've been visiting SB, Frankfurt since last several years. Today was one of our most disappointing lunch barring couple of items. It seems the quality of food is not the same, especially today. We ordered Idlis and they were very bad - It was dry and hard. We had to return but we were served fresh ones which was better than the first. We have had several times Idlis here and it was always great. We would request to first check the state of food before serving. The chutneys and especially sambhar were fabulous. Vada was very good as well. We also ordered a South Indian Thali. Once again the quality was substandard. The Proiyal, Vathal Kozhumbu, raita, payasam was great. Sambhar was not tasty at all. The lady fingers in sambhar were of a bad quality and it clearly seems that the cook did not really care what went into Sambhar and more important how it tasted. The sambhar in the thali was exactly opposite to the good quality sambhar that came with Idli. The Rasam did not have taste and one could taste only turmeric. There is one thing that has been common in all my visits - Kootu and Chana. The taste was just ok to eat but could be improved. Would be great if they do not offer the same Chana that is offered with regular Bhatura/Chappati. Kurma could be a good alternative. Dosas were fabulous and was one of the best we have had at SB, Frankfurt. Finally a bit of sourness made the taste excellent. Filter coffee was great as well. Request the Management to improve the quality as we would love to visit again.

Ambiance and food at the level of a company canteen. Food lukewarm and tasteless and served on a metal tray instead of a plate. At least it is served quickly.

Worst hospitality, either it's Berlin or Frankfurt the staff don't even know how to behave with customer.

All of us felt sick after having lunch. Paneer 65 is paneer pakoda here. It was neither spicy nor sweet just simple salty. Paneer tasted bad as if it was already rotten. Dosa was good but still we had severe stomach ache and acid reflux issue.

Sambar vada and masala dosa was good but not sure why a restaurant like HSB serves store bought frozen parotta. Please stay away from that. Service was average as I had to keep reminding the server about my order and bill.

Best Masala Dosa I had outside of Southern India.

They made me and my wife(pregnant) for 45 mins and they fulfilled an large order which was placed after us. Horrible service. They were even servicing too good to go orders but not ours.

I had severe stomach pains after eating there. Cheese was most likely expired!!! Never again

We had reserved a table today. When we arrived at the restaurant, the waitress seemed very unsympathetic to us. We weren't even greeted, but directly asked "How many?" addressed (German language was not available). The waitress then sat us down at a table and we received our menus. 2 minutes later the waitress came back to our table and asked if we had already chosen. (We didn't even look at the menu), then the waitress walked away from us with her eyes rolling. Another 3 minutes later this person came back to the table and asked again if we hadn't already chosen. Since we were under a lot of pressure, we quickly chose something from the menu because of the person in question. The food tasted delicious and that was the only positive thing I experienced in this restaurant. When I wanted to pack my dish, one of the employees only complied with my request after repeated requests. Overall, I would not recommend this store to anyone.

Good to find an Indian restaurant in Frankfurt which serves authentic South Indian cuisine.

Good food and atmosphere right int the middle of city center. Enjoyed the filter coffee. However had a bad experience with the service. The waitress called Amandeep was unnecessarily rude, didn't let us finish our coffee and forced us to pay in advance. I think the restaurant needs to train employees about customer service.

Food was really delicious. We had North Indian thali, paneer dosa (very well stuffed with paneer), idli, vada and coffee. But the service was terrible. The waitress that waited on our table (nametag - Amandeep) was rude, didn't smile, didn't greet and was very unwelcoming. On top of that, while we were mid of the meal, she slams the bill on the table and asks us to pay (none of us had asked for the cheque yet). Rest, food was really good and other waiters were polite too. Just a poor and hostile service ruins the whole experience.

Amazing south indian delicacies!

Vegetarian food served is par below the standards, the Vada and Idli was so hard could not eat, the vada is not completely cooked, and items were not hot. I visited thrice and perhaps this would be my last visit to this restuarant.

The food was, as expected, good and tasty according to the country of origin. The wine, a Weisburgunder from German Landen, well-tempered and poured in a “hospitable” manner. I find it annoying to have the television on.

Authentic South Indian food, close to Frankfurt main station.

A very bad experience. I went a little after the opening time and somehow the food was still not hot. The vadas was still white and not completely cooked. I ordered two dishes with explicit instructions to bring one after I am done with the other, but they just got both and left them on my table and didn't bother looking back. With it already not hot, you can imagine how bad the eating experience was. Getting the attention of the wait staff was also not possible to ask for reheating as they were all for some reason gossiping about this woman who had come in on skates. I frankly expected more from such a well respected brand and from my previous experiences from other branches in Europe. I would just recommend looking for some other alternatives.

I drove for 300 Kms from Basel to FRK with my parents to this restaurant, We had dinner and Lunch, I realized that the quality of the food is significantly reduced from what I had a year ago, I called the manager and told him that I drove 300kms not for this food, The best part he said " thanks for your feedback" and he moved on to the next job, The summary is when he getting people in droves CUSTOMER FEEDBACK in out of the window. The NAAN was one of the WORST that I have had in my life combined with a completely uncooked PANEER masala. They put so much salt and added the spice at the last minute that we just gave up, the curd vada had the most saddest vada of all time. the "onion rava" has so much oil that I took some home.

Will definitely recommend. We had dosa and Madras coffee. Very pleased with quality. Service is slow especially if it's crowded. Prior reservation is recommended.

A good South Indian Restaurant in the heart of Frankfurt,Germany

Food was delicious, but we had to wait over 60 minutes and had to take the food with us and eat it on the train. Service disaster. I also asked my friend several times and were put off. Not recommendable.

Overall ratings are good because it's the only Indian vegetarian place around. Good South Indian cuisine, but non-south Indian food was overall disappointing, like Gobhi Manchurian with too much oil, food colour and Nan were half done. There are better restaurants around for Chinese and North Indian cuisine.

The food is great but it takes really long. There is no particular order. They serve dessert before main course :/ which was a total turnoff for me.

I went to a South Indian restaurant with my husband last weekend. It has a great ambience and great food. We ordered Idly and Dosa and it tasted just like what we eat in India.

I would rate 0 if it was an option. I went during off peak hours, and even though the whole restaurant was empty, I wasn't allowed to sit in a considerate place where I wished. The servers refused to serve me and wanted me to sit in a particular table. The staff is very rude and I don't recommend coming here or bringing parents/elders. The manager doesn't treat you well also. Overall I'm not stepping in Saravana bhavan again. Update: Your response is only partially true. I challenge you to release the CCTV footage with audio so everyone can see and hear who was actually rude. I'm confident you won't do that. Simply writing a false reply won't change the facts. After today's experience, I want people to know the reality of your restaurant and the kind of service they can expect if they choose to dine there.

The worst service you can expect. If you have not noticed it yet, just focus on it and you will see that how poorly they treat you. They think we are begging for their food. They treat you so badly and then tell you they won't serve you just because you are sitting at a table meant for 4 people when the whole restaurant is empty during off peak time. They said they won't serve till we move to another table. Not only this, every Saravanaa Bhavan in Germany follows the same principle of treating customers rudely. Update: You say you treat all customers equally right, check the CCTV camera and see how many people were sitting on the table of 4 exactly opposite to the kitchen when we were there. And please count and let us know how many 4 seaters were empty. Also we didn't move from one table to another four times. From Table 17, we asked to move to Table 21 and the waitress told No. Verify it in your CCTV. We were not rude, your team was rude who said they won't serve us till we move. We didn't scold or fight. We didn't raise our voice, we just told you guys didn't respect and left. We spoke with Ramesh the manager and left. I even offered you that we will move if restaurant gets full. We even told we will not be staying for hours to occupy the seat when others come.

So we spontaneously went there to eat, the service is catastrophic and the service can only speak English and you always have to call the service so that you can order.. We ordered 2 drinks. One of the drinks came wrong. The service knew exactly what we had ordered. The bar man or the manger without hair is very unfriendly At the end, when we wanted to pay, they simply put another dish in that we didn't eat, so we don't recommend it at all Very very disappointed we will never come back to you

Best South Indian restaurant in Frankfurt!

Worst service of late. Made me wait for 45 minutes now. Be prepared to wait for more than 45 mins to get your dish served. This has happened to me the second time in the span two week. First time had ordered onion dosa and second time it's north indian meals. Service is very late. People will die of hunger waiting for the food. I specifically asked the waiter while ordering how long will it take based on the previous experience, he told me around 15-20 mins. Did not expect a delay for so long.

They are able to maintain the same taste across their outlets, it's really commendable.

A pride of India, I would say. Such a vegetarian international chain, coolly managed. Just awesome, always recommend anyone from any ethnicity or country, not only Indians.

Yesterday I was in the restaurant with my girlfriend who was not feeling well at all and urgently asked to use the toilet. We were turned away very rudely and lied to about there being no toilet in the restaurant. If there isn't even help in urgent emergencies, the service doesn't seem to be very good.

Did not expect a very sloppy game by Saravanaa Bhavan Frankfurt! No salt in dishes what so ever! Curd Vada - claimed to be non sour Yoghurt, was unfortunately served with plain yoghurt, no topping of various chutneys and sprinkles Paneer 65 - extremely bland, made with artificial colours and left over onion chunks were the toppings thrown altogether in a non restaurant manner on a plate Salt Lassi tasted like Aryan packets Anjappar does better work than the reputed Saravanaa Bhavan

Worst food.. they are just cashing on Indian brand name. Ordered pav bhaji dosa.. it was no where close to Pav Bhaji at all.. they had put only Onions and Pav Bhaji Masala.. Ordered Manchurian but instead of cauliflower they made it of potato!!! Pls avoid it.. at any cost

To come here you need to have time because depending on the time of day you may have to wait in line outside the establishment. When getting a table there is a certain delay even when placing the order and then you have to wait for the dish. Depending on what is ordered, it may arrive a little faster, so if there are different dishes, each one arrives at a different time even if everything is on the same table.

Authentic vegetarian cuisine and friendly staff. The setup is very simple. Lots of locals can be found, which speaks for the quality. Great value for money. clear recommendation for good Indian cuisine.

Very authentic Indian veggie food. Hugh variety of dosas and other delicious Indian streetfood dishes. Normally, the food comes fast, but when its really full, it can take some time. Atmosphere nice, but sometimes loud - authentic ;-)! Popular especially by south-Asian tourists and all other South-Asian food lovers. The visit catapults you directly to India.

Excellent south indian food. It opens at 11am and has good no of seating. We arrived at 11am sharp and within 30min, entire resturant was full of people. The only drawback is its location. It is located in red light area that doesnot make it suitable for dinner.

Visited after a gap of 2 years. Ordered idly- expected hot idly but it was served to us in cold conditions. Sambhar was ok, Chutneys need improvement, lacking the taste. Onion Rava Dosa - good crispy Onion Chilli Uttappa- thick and ok. Coffee- as usual good Overall good review but frankly needs improvement in taste. Because no other option should not be taken as excuse for below far taste.

+ At prime time there is often a queue outside & it can get loud inside, but it didn't bother us. + The food (Dosa, Sambar, Idli & Vada) tastes good. + The waitresses are nice and friendly but a bit slow. + Unfortunately, the food you ordered doesn't always arrive at the same time.

Very bad long wait food was not good

Good vegetarian & south indian food. But it gets too busy and service is slow. In such times, the waiters also insist you don’t order stuff which takes longer to prepare.

If you want to eat real Indian food, and not fake Indian like in most other "Indian" restaurants, you should come here. You can see it directly from the guests: there are a lot of Indians sitting here and they already know why. My favorite: The Tali with various dishes, "balloon bread" (pori), rice and dessert - heavenly! Always a pleasure!

This was the best Saravanaa Bhavan we visited Before this we had visited Saravanaa Bhavan in Munich and Paris. The experience was not so good at all. Frankfurt is totally recommended Ambience, food and service.. everything was amazing 😍 🙏

Degraded service like every other Saravanan Bhavans all over world but decent South Indian food, the food is relatively reasonably priced.

In my opinion the best and most authentic Indian restaurant in Frankfurt. Only the service is sometimes a bit chaotic (e.g. long waiting times for individual dishes). Tip: If you don't know dosa yet, you should definitely try it here.

Update 2024: I went to the restaurant twice within six months with 4-5 work colleagues. Last time my colleague had to wait forever for her food, everyone else was already finished when hers came. Yesterday it hit me. There were 5 of us, 2 received their food relatively quickly after ordering (dosa, uthappam), the next two half an hour later (a palak and dal dish) and I (vegetable fry - not an elaborate dish!) only a whole hour later after the first two. Eating on site is no fun. Although the taste was always great, we won't be going back here anytime soon. 2019: We ordered home and took quite a long time to work our way through the somewhat confusing menu. In addition to standard curries in "extra spicy" (spinach, cauliflower, chickpeas), we ordered DOSA, Uthappam (crepe and pancakes) and Kaima Idly (spicy, fried rice/bean cakes) without knowing what to expect. A good choice to complement the consistently great curry flavor explosions. The sauces supplied, for example for the naan, take a backseat in terms of taste to the intensely spicy curries, so there is still room for improvement. Next time we'll hopefully eat locally to explore even more variations on the diverse menu. Danger! We had to order in English, which can be a real challenge with poor connection plus background noise from the restaurant. In terms of taste, our selection was so good that despite the challenges when ordering, you can give it 5 points.

Saff was very professional. Taking 1 star away for food. Ordered Palak paneer and were served with just Palak with no paneer. Taste was 6 out of 10.

We come here regularly for lunch. The food has always been absolutely delicious! The dishes are all vegetarian and there is usually the option to prepare the dishes vegan. The service is friendly and speaks, among other things, German or English. The restaurant looks modern and has an open kitchen. The waiting times for food vary greatly depending on the dish, so often not everyone gets their food at the same time. But we were impressed by the taste, which is why we would like to come back.

What a pleasant gastronomical surprise to find Saravanaa Bhavan in Germany. The food, the service were extremely good. How can the same taste travel from India to Europe! Kudos to the management.

Great place for food closest to the authentic south Indian cuisine. They have a great offering for vegetarian and vegan folks. The Ghee roast masala is a must try.

Great place if you want to get authentic Indian food! Nice ambience, very modern and spacious with good staff. 5min walking from the train station for people like us who had a short break in between trains. Can absolutely recommend it!

The food quality was just Ok. I didn't feel it was authentic South India.

First they need to stop queuing people outside immediately. There was enough places inside but that large waiter is not proactive enough to move at the speed he should. Sarvanna Bhavan needs trest clients better. Service is bit artificial and cold. Food is good but that's the expectation. It still tastes authentic .Although it was salty.

My wife and myself visited Saravana balance for a lunch on a Friday because we wished to have vegetarian food. The quality was below par, every curry was spicy plus, there were no green vegetables. This is not the standard maintained by South Indians. Disappointed and disgusted with food served. Question about value for money 4/10 if at all. A real Indian magic this is.

As already mentioned by reviewers before, this is one of the best Saravanan Bhavans with a very pleasant ambience. Food speaks for itself, quite authentic. Whenever we visit Frankfurt, it's become mandatory to visit this South Indian (they also serve good North Indian food) restaurant.

I am a regular customer. But today I ordered idli as takeaway and was dissappointed to see the idlis being half cooked and in such a horrible state.I guess their staff is unable to handle the customers when it is crowded.

This branch of Saravana Bhawan has degraded its quality of food. I don't know why but my last 3-4 experiences of having food here have really been disappointing. They are putting salt in very excessive amount. Being vegetarian, it was my go-to place earlier. I hope they work on it.

Its always crowded and theres just way to many tables cramped together in there, took us a few tries to get a good table, but one you get it the food is good, but do not order anything else apart from the south indian menu. The other dishes will just disappoint you. The gobi manchurian was hands down the worst i have ever had, it was alarmingly red, with too much salty battery and oil. We had to throw most of it away. But the dosas were good. That's most people get here anyway.

Very arrogant staff, not welcoming at all. Even exactly at opening timings, said cannot accommodate until an hour. Totally hyped, not worth at all.
