The food and service are incredibly good. The ambiance is very simple and, personally, a bit too sterile for my taste, but it's perfectly tolerable.

I don't want to write much about it! Upon entering the restaurant, there was an unpleasant fishy smell. The service, well, let's just say it was all self-taught. The ambiance was nonexistent. In my opinion, it's a dive in the old town! They don't accept card payments. Only cash! They must have their reasons! I would say "not recommended"!

Excellent Italian food, homemade and very authentic; exceptional for a restaurant in the old town. Unfortunately, no reservations, but a well-behaved queue.

If you're willing to dig deeper into your pockets for some great food and drinks, I'd recommend San Leo. Outside in the summer, inside in the winter. I like going there because it simply represents "Italy" to me.

This is an Italian restaurant in Düsseldorf that I go to when I get tired of German food. The staff were kind enough to explain the menu to me, so I enjoyed my meal. The pasta was a little firm but had a nice chewy texture, and was all rich and flavorful. There are a lot of Italian restaurants on this street, so it might be hard to choose, but I think this is a classic. I hope they continue to do well in the future.

Unfortunately, as other reviews have mentioned, I also encountered an extremely rude waiter. While we were still speaking to him, he abruptly walked away without saying a word, so I didn’t even get the chance to finish ordering my drink. It ruined our mood before we even start eating, therefore overall 3 stars. Gorgonzola Birne pasta was good. The flavor wasn’t intense at all - the sweetness of the pear nicely balanced out the richness of the sauce. I would’ve added just a bit more cheese to keep it from feeling too light. The pasta dough was thin and delivered overall nice texture. It's such a shame that I have to give not the nice review although the food was quite good. Truly abysmal. It couldn't be more loving. As a "local," I've been there many times, but I've never been truly impressed due to the lackluster service. But yesterday: the crowning glory. Any cafeteria service is better, friendlier, more accommodating. And, incidentally, tastier too. As an Italian, messing up an Arrabiata, especially the way it's "presented" (greasy plate, dirty rim, no decoration) is quite an achievement. Not spicy at all - more like a Napoli with three olives, swimming in oil... The waiter clears the half-full plate and asks if it wasn't tasty - and in response to my still-friendly comment: "I should have said that earlier" (yes, right, colleague - if you had asked me in between). What then? Would he have come with chili/garlic oil?! Yes - he would have! No apologies. Not even an espresso on the house. Niente. Then the payment process. It's still incomprehensible that in 2025, only cash will be accepted. The companion puts down the card (yes, it says "cash only" online), and the second waiter comes over, waving the hundred-dollar bill from the neighboring table, signaling to us: no card! Sorry, San Leo: don't you need it anymore? It feels like a bad tourist trap. I come from a restaurant background myself. I haven't experienced anything like this in a really long time. Or never?! Easy peasy….. no reservation (not possible) go in and wait if it's not free. What's nice is that you sit two people at a table with four people and someone you don't know sits next to you (can be very interesting 😊) Simple restaurant and that's not meant in a negative way... Anyone who likes to eat Italian should find a clear map. 3 glasses of wine 2 times pasta 1 espresso 66 € is a good price for Düsseldorf..... 👍 By the way, that's my opinion and we know...tastes are different.

Truly delicious! Italian dishes are prepared here with an open kitchen (except pizza). I particularly like the octopus salad with fennel! One of the best Italian restaurants in town.

Best food, relaxed atmosphere, very friendly service!

Reserviert wird nicht, der Laden ist knallvoll, ein Plätzchen für zwei lässt sich aber immer noch finden. Der Service wirbelt und hat alles im Blick, gekocht wird in offener Küche. Die Speisekarte ist phantasievoll und übersichtlich, das Essen köstlich, die Weine ebenso und die Preise stimmen. Dass in so einem Lokal nur bar bezahlt werden kann, versteht sich von selbst.

Service - really bad!!! :( I will definitely not come back here again. The waitresses are so annoyed and take it out on their customers. People openly gossip about the guests, roll their eyes, and things are roughly distributed on the table. There are other good restaurants too - luckily! I don't need that again. Her handwritten, illegible piece of paper covered in grease stains doesn't make things any better. Quite the opposite. Reservations and card payments are not possible. The only positive thing I can say here: the food was good! But that was it. And that's not good enough for me to come back.

My husband and I went to dinner at that restaurant, he ordered Aubergine with cheese and I ordered pasta with mushroom sauce. The atmosphere of the place, the rockers and the food were excellent!! Highly recommended.

Nach langer Zeit wieder zum Mittagessen im San Leo, seit über 40 Jahren eine Institution!!! Es gab nichts zu meckern 😂, hervorragend gegessen, den Pulposalat, dann die Rochenflügel mit Kapernsauce, sehr gut, heiß und eine gute Portion, fairer Preis, auch wie immer gut die Pasta mit Birne und Gorgonzolasauce, geröstetes Brot mit Olivenöl vorweg!!

The food was good. However, the service is subpar. In addition, the waiter didn't bring back the remaining €10! Unfortunately, that has a flavor. Apparently he forgot about it. Cash payment only applies. The tax office should take a closer look here. I'll never go here again.

We have been to San Leo several times, although the atmosphere is very simple and the restaurant is not really inviting (it has more of a snack bar atmosphere), but sitting outside is very nice and right in the heart of Düsseldorf. The waiters are quite nice but sometimes also limited to the minimum. But the food is really delicious with a constantly changing menu. You can find what you order on your plate without a lot of frills. For 4 people we usually paid around 120€ with drinks. We'll be back.

Unfortunately, it is a place with very rude employees. The menu is handwritten in Italian on A4 paper. handwriting cannot be read. When you ask the employees about the menu, they just say they don't speak English without paying attention. After spending 10 minutes trying to understand an unreadable menu in a foreign language, we had to get up just after learning that credit cards were not accepted. Super service in the middle of Düsseldorf :)

Discovered by accident...thank God. Super tasty pasta dishes, freshly prepared of course. The service could sometimes smile, but it doesn't detract from the food at all. Price performance is 100 percent right.

Today only two, then four visited and ate. Was really tasty. But the ambience is very mediocre, the waiter/ress was totally neutral when we were sitting, no typical joys of stopping there. Completely uninterested in whether you were there or not. We absolutely missed the usual small Italian style of the otherwise familiar charm. We're not going there anymore. Mi dispiace!

The noodle portion is about enough to feed a 5 year old. After dinner, my girlfriend and I went to Karlsplatz to get our fill. Damn people. Even a pack of the good “De Cecco” shouldn’t cost you more than €1.20 for 500g. There was never more than 80g of raw pasta on my plate. 125g would at least fill you up. If something didn't taste good when I ate in a restaurant, my motto is at least "It was full." Unfortunately, I couldn't even say that here. It wasn't really tasty either.

Die Nudelportion in etwa so groß das ein 5 jähriger Satt werden kann. Meine Freundin und ich sind nach dem Essen erst einmal zum Karlsplatz um Satt zu werden. Verdammt Leute. Selbst eine Packung der guten "De Cecco" sollten euch nicht mehr Kosten als 1,20€ 500g. Auf meinem Teller waren niemals mehr als 80g Roh-Nudeln. 125g würden zumindest Satt machen. Wenn es wo nicht geschmeckt hat wenn ich in einem Restaurant Essen war ist meine Devise zumindest "Hat Satt gemacht" Leider konnte ich dies hier nicht mal Aussagen. Lecker war es zudem ebenfalls nicht wirklich.

Salattblätter für Kanninchen gedacht so gross nur um den Teller möglichst voll aussehen zulassen 2Gaenelen und2Lachsstreifen .Bedienung keine Lust .

The best pasta in Düsseldorf after 3 month, Spaghetti al astice

Some dishes change every now and then, but basically, for as long as I can remember, the exact same menu with the exact same dishes (e.g. chicken with tarragon sauce). But you know what you are getting here, namely fresh and authentic cuisine. Spaghetti Vongole is also particularly good to eat here

First of all - good, tasty food with excellent quality that is affordable. The wine selection is manageable, but fine. It's all the more sad that we won't be eating here anymore. When we ate at San Leo last Friday (April 12, 2024), the food was, as usual, very good. We sat at one of the two tables at the left end of the restaurant where the mirror hangs. Shortly after we sat down, an older lady came in and sat down at the two tables by the window. The waiter immediately asked if she had someone to accompany her, but the question was denied. As the waiter turned around, you could see he was rolling his eyes. After we ordered our drinks and food, we got the delicious toasted bread, until then the lady wasn't served. When we got our starter, two other guests came into the restaurant, who are obviously frequent guests and were greeted extremely friendly by the above-mentioned waiter. They sat down between the lady and us. Their orders were taken immediately, until then the lady was not served, only the basket with the toasted bread was placed on her table. The lady then left the restaurant without a word and very quietly, without complaining, without making a scene. What followed was the crowning achievement. The waiter was surprised when his colleague spoke to him about it, so he acted as if nothing had happened and made fun of the ladies with the two guests he knew - the waitress joined in and the four of them loudly gossiped about the lady. The service here is pathetic. This restaurant is no longer an option for us, even though they will get along just fine without us.

Cherchant un restaurant italien à Düsseldorf, nous sommes arrivés ici. Les aubergines parmigiana sont une tuerie et les pasta al ragout comme là-bas. Si vous voulez de la vraie cuisine italienne en Allemagne, vous êtes à la bonne adresse.

It seemed like a very popular store with a good location, so I went there. The handwritten menu looks delicious and good. I had high expectations because I would be able to eat fresh seafood, but I was disappointed as all the menu items were very salty.

Top Italian cuisine at reasonable prices with consistent quality for decades. Polite service without intrusive snogging. No reservation possible, it's worth the wait.

An institution and the place to go for good Italian food in the old town.

Na een jaartje weer eens terug in dit restaurant. Je kunt niet reserveren, dus we hoopten niet te lang te hoeven wachten. Dit was onze 5e keer, we hadden er zin in. Als je hier gaat eten, verwacht gewoon functioneel eten, niet moeilijk maar gewoon authentiek Italiaans. Het eten was prima in orde. Smaken prima, maar ik miste net dat ietsje van wooow. Wat je juist met eenvoud kan bereiken, maar dan moet je het wel met veel energie en overgave doen. Dat tikkeltje misten we in de gerechten. De volgende gerechten, lassagne, tartaar zalm, venkel salade inktvis, parelhoen dragon saus. Wat de bediening betreft, dat was echt waardeloos!!! Ongeïnteresseerd, onvriendelijk en totaal niet begaan met producten en de gasten. Vooral door deze waardeloze bediening komen we hier nooit meer terug. Onze conclusie is dat de vreugde uit de zaak is.

Very good overall package. The food was very good, authentic Sicilian cuisine. Both the soup and the pasta dish were very tasty. The wine, a Montepulcano, was very harmonious. The service was very courteous and friendly. When we are back in Düsseldorf, we will come back.

Sehr gutes Gesamtpaket. Das Essen war sehr gut, authentische sizilianische Küche. Sowohl die Suppe als auch das Nudelgericht war sehr lecker. Der Wein, ein Montepulcano, war sehr harmonisch. Der Service war sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Wenn wir wieder in Düsseldorf sind, kommen wir wieder.

Bewertung von Laos in Düsseldorf: Als begeisterter Liebhaber italienischer Küche, wie sie in Mamas Pizzeria serviert wird, war ich beeindruckt von der Qualität und Authentizität des Laos in Düsseldorf. Die Pasta, insbesondere die Kalbsleber, war exquisit zubereitet und spiegelte das handwerkliche Können und die guten Rezepte wider, die man in einem traditionellen italienischen Restaurant erwarten würde. Das Gefühl, in Italien zu sein, wurde durch die hausgemachten Speisen und den erstklassigen Service verstärkt. Ohne Zweifel ein Ort, zu dem wir gerne zurückkehren werden.

Ja, es wurde Zeit d e n „Italiener“ der Altstadt mal wieder aufzusuchen. Lang ist der letzte Besuch her. Es ist ja nicht immer einfach einen bzw. zwei Plätze dort zu kriegen. Denn oft „steppt da der Bär”! Der letzte Versuch (vor ca 3 Monaten) scheiterte daran, dass mein Begleiter und ich nicht genug Bargeld bei uns hatten. „Keine Kartenzahlung“ steht aufklärerisch, in ungelenker Handschrift auf der doch recht übersichtlichen Speisekarte. Eigentümlich - warum diese kundenunfreundliche „Einsparung“?? Alle und alles gibt sich in Düsseldorf doch so gern weltläufig. Aber nicht San Leo. (Frage an das Management: Was steckt hinter der “nur Bargeld” Auflage?) Gestern war es relativ leer im Lokal. Ein ereignisloser Donnerstagabend eben . Wenn die wenigen Tische im Restaurant nur spärlich belegt sind, atmet es nicht unbedingt lebendig mediterrane Atmosphäre. Schön ist wirklich anders, und die Kleidung riecht nach längerem Verweilen sicherlich nach Knoblauch und Öl, denn ganz nah an den Tischen, dicht hinter der Theke , wird kulinarisch gewerkelt . Aber diese offene Nähe der Kochkunst hat ja zugegebenermaßen für viele Gäste ihren eigenen Reiz. Nach einem mental intensiven Kinoabend hatten wir zwei Damen etwas Appetit auf “Klassisches”, folglich waren zwei unterschiedliche Pastagerichte -wenig anspruchsvoll -unsere Wahl : “Agnolotti mit Tomatensauce und Pfifferlingen” (14.90€) und “Strozzapretti mit Steinpilzfuellung” (16.90€) Unsere Getränke waren passend dazu bescheiden: eine große Flasche Wasser (6.40€), ein Weißwein “Lugana”(7.80€) und ein Rotwein “Rosso Piceno” (7.60€) Wir probierten voneinander jeweils die Hälfte der Speisen. Nachwürzen war vor allen Dingen für mich speziell beim Pfifferling Mahl angesagt.Die Sauce war doch recht fad, (eigentlich auch nicht sämig genug) und die kleinen Fleischbällchen schmeckten nach “nichts”. Den durchdringend waldigen Pfifferlinggeschmack vermisste ich bei den Herbst typischen Pilzen ebenfalls. Einigermaßen pikant fand ich die mit weißer cremiger Sauce bedeckten Teigtaschen (Strozzapreti), die Füllung war geschmacklich ebenfalls ok. Das Essen alles in allem “mittelmäßig”! So auch das Preis-Leistungsverhaeltnis. Dementsprechend fiel nicht nur mein, sondern unser gemeinsam gefälltes Urteil aus. Nein, ich vergaß, das anfänglich gereichte, in Knoblauchbutter geröstete Weißbrot war ausgesprochen lecker! Von daher: “Hier kam der Geschmack!” wie man/frau es von einem Restaurant mit Kultstatus normalerweise erwartet. Das nächste Mal komme ich mit mehr Bargeld, vielleicht sind ja die hochpreisigeren Speisen ganz außergewöhnlich und wirklich gut?!?

Das Essen ist sehr lecker und die Qualität ausgezeichnet. Der Service ist professionel und die handgeschriebene Karte ein Sympathiefaktor. Wir werden hier defintiv wieder Essen und jedem.zu empfehlen, der gutes italienischen Essen mag.

Service unfreundlich, unakzeptabel unglaublich uninteressiert! Können sie sich erlauben, weil das Essen wirklich super ist. Warteschlangen, aber wenn man zahlen möchte muss man lange warten, bis dieses überstrapazierte Personal, so scheint es, die Rechnung serviert.

Das Essen ist schön angerichtet und schmeckt sehr gut. Allerdings war der Service schlecht. Nach der ersten Getränkebestellung wurde nicht mehr nach weiteren Getränken gefragt. Es dauerte sehr lange für weitere Bestellungen. Um zahlen zu können haben wir weitere 15 Min. gewartet obwohl die Tische innen wie außen nicht voll besetzt waren.

Zum ersten Mal dort gewesen und Glück gehabt ohne Reservierung. Das Essen hatte ein super Qualität und war sehr lecker . Die Bilder sprechen für sich . Service war sehr nett und aufmerksam .

The reviews check out! Came in without reservation, and lucky to get a table. Man, we were hungry and it was cold and wet outside. We had a very good experience is San Leo, Dusseldorf. The restaurant is just off the main street in the Wallstrasse. The restaurant is not too big, full with tables and little space for walking on standing. The last is particularly important as people keep coming in, and are asked to wait for a free table. They will not turn you down if the place is full. We were here last November 2022. The staff is attentive, even though they are very busy. We had to wait some 20 minutes, got a table, some very good and fresh pasta (fiocchi, strozzapretti) and a baby pasta pomodoro (for just 4 euro). Lugana and montepulciano were nice. Decent prices.

Het eten was heel lekker, van verse producten gemaakt maar bediening was niet echt vriendelijk. Menukaart is precies Chinees, met de handgeschreven, moeilijk te lezen. Veel uitleg over gerechten moet je niet verwachten. Bovendien betalen alleen met cash, en dat in 2023!

Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt, bei schönem Wetter kann man sehr schön vor dem Restaurant sitzen.

Nach meinen circa 10. Besuch in dem Lokal würde ich sagen, man kann es empfehlen zum lunchen. Keine besondere Sitzqualität. Speisen sind gut abgeschmeckt, Service ist auf Zack, aber mit wenig Emotion. Leider nur Barzahlung möglich.

Seit mehr als 20Jahren kommen wir regelmäßig von Gelsenkirchen nach Düsseldorf. Einkaufsbummel: Heinemann und Frankonia . Nach Angelo zeitig um noch einen Platz zu bekommen. Über Jahre gleichbleibend gute Küche mit fairem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Der Service ist schnell, selten gut gelaunt (in der Wirkung). Das Ambiente gleicht einem Bistro. Weder Tischwäsche, noch Kerzen oder Blumen. Papier-Servietten.

Ein kleines Lokal in einer Seitenstraße mitten in der Stadt. Wir hatten Glück und haben ein Tisch bekommen. Ein richtiger Italiener. Klein aber gemütlich. Die Auswahl klein aber ausreichend. Preislich gut. Geschmacklich richtig gut. Man muss schon ein bisschen auf sein Essen warten es ist aber alles frisch. Beim nächsten Besuch in Düsseldorf werden wir dort nochmal essen gehen

Guter Service, die Karte wird regelmäßig gewechselt. Sehr leckeres und frisches Speisen. Man findet auch verschiedene Vegetarisches Gerichte. Pasta gefüllt mit Birne und Gorgonzola ist mein Favorit. Eine Reservierung zuvor ist empfehlenswert. Sehr zu empfehlen. Preisleistungsverhältnis ist gut.

Für Liebhaber italienischer Gastronomie ist das eine der besten Adressen in Düsseldorf. Reservierungen sind nicht möglich und unter Umständen muss man warten, aber es lohnt sich. Unbedingt nach dem Essen den gekühlten Limoncello probieren. Ansonsten bietet die Speisekarte für jeden Gusto hinreichend Auswahl und dazu passende Getränke.

Leider hatten wir das Pech,daß der Kellner sehr unfreundlich war. Das Essen war lecker,aber wir haben uns nicht willkommen gefühlt. Schade,aber vielleicht war der Kellner einfach nur überarbeitet..Aber das darf der Gast nicht zu spüren bekommen. Schade,denn die Preise sind auch ordentlich und da müsste alles passen. Vielleicht war es nur eine Ausnahme, wir wünschen trotzdem weiterhin gute Geschäfte.

Best Italian dinner in downtown Dusseldorf

Lamb cutlets were great. Gnocchi lamb ragout was a bit boring. Server was sans smiles.

Vor 30 Jahren habe ich bereits hier gegessen. Es ist immer noch unglaublich italienisch lecker. Italien pur. Danke.

Super lækker mad som er klart over gennemsnittet. Kan være en smule svært at læse det håndskrevne menukort, men snyd ikke jer selv for en oplevelse her. Priserne er også meget rimelige så det får de varmeste anbefalinger.
