Delicious food, top service, stylish atmosphere

We visited the Samoar restaurant in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, and it was truly an excellent experience to taste authentic Russian cuisine. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We tried their Schaschlik (grilled meat), which was delicious—smoked, perfectly grilled meat with a mild spicy sauce, roast potatoes, and fresh vegetables. The appetizers were also excellent, for example, the Solene (marinierte tomaten, gurken, pilze und Krautsalat) and the Sakuski (gemischte Vorspeisenplatte mit russischen Salaten, Lachs, gefülltes Ei mit Keta-Kaviar und mit einem russischen Wodka). We also ordered "Bliny (2 pieces) with stuffed jackfleisch and smetana" and "Wareniki – fried flatbreads with carrot filling, roasted onions, and smetana." Every dish was presented with high quality, and the flavors were pronounced, although some items could be slightly tweaked to suit your taste. I highly recommend it to lovers of Russian cuisine or anyone looking for a different dining experience in Berlin.

The food was excellent although the ambience takes some getting used to

If you want to experience the finest Russian cuisine in Berlin, stop here! Unfortunately, all other "Russian restaurants" in Berlin are not recommended. The location is also excellent and perfect for a stroll through the palace gardens.

The restaurant serves excellent food. The borscht soup was very good, with a good amount of meat. However, I was very disappointed by the staff's behavior. My friend got a bone from the soup stuck in her throat, and we had to leave the restaurant immediately. Unfortunately, the staff showed no attention or sympathy—just the usual payment process. I paid the entire bill, although I think the restaurant could have at least waived the soup in this case. Obviously, my friend's well-being was more important than anything else at that moment, not to mention a discussion about the bill—it's a shame the staff didn't see it the same way.

This intoxicating gem is located directly next to Charlottenburg Palace. From the outside, the name 'Samovar' immediately catches the eye. Looking for a stylish place to converse and sit comfortably, without the feeling of a train station concourse, I stopped here with my companion. From the outside, apart from the name and the huge, magnificent samovar in the window, it appears rather unassuming and rather rustic, pub-like and chaotic. This impression disappears upon opening the front door... Warmly greeted by the authentic, fascinatingly dedicated service at Tschapan, we entered not just a restaurant, but a Russian-influenced wonder shop. Our eyes didn't know where to look first. Around the dark, stylishly rustic wooden counter were gathered matryoshkas, icons, porcelain figurines, teapots, various samovars, and tsarist sculptures. My euphoria that evening was only slightly dampened by a visit to the restrooms. There, I sensed a disconnect between the warm dining room, full of attention to detail, and the cold, somewhat unloving little place. They could have done with a bit more freshness there. But no star deduction for that! The waitress led us into the dining room, which, despite being well-filled with a relaxed, linguistically diverse group, was pleasantly cozy, warm, and just right for conversation. During a quick tour, I admired the room layout. With the wood paneling, niches, and a narrow corridor between the bar and the two dining rooms, one of which, with its square, adjacent tables, is perfect for social gatherings, and the other, a "parlor," reflecting the velvety, sophisticated stateroom with regal-looking baroque wooden chairs, small round tables, and countless works of art that allow the eye to wander, I felt like I was in another world. Instantly, all the burdens of everyday life fall away, and I allow myself to be guided by the friendly and extremely professional waitresses, who still master all the tricks of the old school service etiquette, catapulting the restaurant's atmosphere into the upper echelons of hospitality. We were able to experience firsthand the hospitality that 'Dimitri Stupaki' is capable of portraying in film with our waitress at Samowar. Well seated, we were able to enjoy the artistic visual feast of the surroundings and the wonderful work of the waitresses. While the surroundings, with their artistic abundance, make my eyes wander and my heart leap, I am also thrilled by the menu. It greets me in the same way, with a personality that I haven't found in a restaurant like this for a long time. With its clearly structured, concise, and harmonious design, the menu easily guides the eye through the diverse menu. To start, I chose a 'Krusovice,' a very flavorful, light bock beer with a pleasant bittersweet balance. The chosen venison dish was worthy of a tsar. Exquisitely and lovingly presented, my eyes were able to feast on it, and with the first bite, a journey of taste began whose personal description would be nothing short of food porn. Therefore, let me just say at this point that the quantity, arrangement, ingredients used, and the fine-tuning of the flavors suggest that not only the service but also the chef knows his craft. Absolutely worthy of a star! The wonderful appearance of the dish perfectly concealed the actual quantity. Here, not only the eye is satisfied without being oversatiated. 😉 Chapeau adieu to this gastronomically outstanding achievement. Thank you so much🙏🏼 Go there, let yourself be transported to this incredible Tsarist empire... It's worth it! Lovers of traditional furnishings, those with an open mind and an interest in art, will experience a feast for the eyes. Young gourmets can be transported here on a culinary journey of Russian taste. Down-to-earth, tasty Russian cuisine.

I went here with a friend. The service was super friendly and attentive, very much old-school in the best way. The food was good – the meat could have been a touch more tender, but overall it was a solid and enjoyable experience. The interior has a classic, slightly nostalgic style that fits the place and makes it feel cozy. Would happily come back.

Russian interior with authentic Russian food

This place inspired us 6 years ago ❤️, and it hasn't gotten any worse since. The staff is super nice and friendly and helps with the menu selection. The food really tastes like it would at a Russian mom's or grandma's home 😍 The tea service is legendary and a special feature of this place, so I would definitely recommend getting tea from a samovar.

Unassuming from the outside, the inside is simply beautiful and very lovingly decorated. The food was simply excellent. We felt fantastically well looked after. We'll be back!

We ate at this Russian restaurant a few days ago during our trip to Berlin. The ambiance in the restaurant was typical of the country and very attractively decorated. There was quiet music playing in the background and the service was very attentive and friendly. The tables were covered with tablecloths and a candle was immediately lit at our table. The server wore serving gloves. We ordered an appetizer, main courses and, for dessert, the Medowik and Napoleon cake with black tea from the samovar. The food, from appetizer to dessert, was first-class in taste and appearance and was truly beautifully presented. A few days later, we ate at another Eastern European restaurant in Berlin to try it out. This one couldn't compete with Restaurant Samowar. We felt completely at home here and will definitely visit this fine restaurant again on our next trip to Berlin. If you like Eastern European cuisine or want to try it, then this is the place for you.

We have been guests at this restaurant for years; the cuisine is authentic and absolutely delicious, the service is excellent, friendly, and competent. We have always felt incredibly comfortable and welcome, often with our own guests as well. The restaurant is lovingly decorated, it's cozy, and it's always a pleasure to be a guest here! I'm not the only one who finds it absolutely incomprehensible that political views and a lack of understanding about the unfortunate war are being associated with this restaurant. Under the cloak of anonymity, attempts are being made to harm these wonderful hosts – simply unbelievable. We wish the manager and all the staff strength to overcome these outrages and many nice and friendly guests who appreciate the hospitality.

You feel welcome from the very beginning. The food is a true experience: 10/10 in terms of taste, prepared with love, and beautifully presented. Highly recommended for connoisseurs, but also for anyone who wants to discover something new culinary. The location is also top-notch: very easy to reach, both by public transport and by car. It was my first time here and I was thrilled. I had liver, but the red cabbage underneath didn't go so well. The apple and onion were delicious, but with the mashed potatoes, they were simply delicious! The hot cherries had a spice in them that still bothers me to this day. I can't figure out why, and it doesn't fit in there. The rest was perfect!

The restaurant is next to the Charlottenburg Palace. It is a Russian-style restaurant that opened in 1979. The decoration and furnishings have historical heritage. The service staff was able to give us Chinese menus, which was very enthusiastic. The food was beautifully presented and tasted good. The coffee tasted average. The time to wait for the beef stew was too long, more than 30 minutes.

I had three Russian restaurants with good reviews to choose from. Based purely on my gut feeling, I chose Samowar. It was exactly the right decision for us. We were there on the evening of June 19, 2025, and are still absolutely thrilled. A friendly welcome, a typical local atmosphere, and attentive service. Even the kitchen spoke Russian. We each had a starter, main course, and dessert (a delicious cake). We're familiar with Russian cuisine, which is only available on the menu. All of the dishes were lovingly and attractively prepared and presented on the plates. The flavors were spot on, and the portions were generous. My personal highlights were the starter plate, the lamb shashlik, and both cakes (really large pieces). We were pleasantly surprised at the extremely fair prices. If we go back to Berlin, I know 100% where we'll go again. Thanks again for the great service and the delicious food.

I must honestly admit that I was hoping for more. I found the portions too small. The ambiance may seem authentic to some, but there's also a modern Eastern feel to it, and so it felt out of step with the times for me. The service was disorganized. The food wasn't brought at the same time, even though we asked in advance. Napkins were forgotten. There were dumplings with a different filling on the plate that we didn't order. The price was too high for the quality offered.

A stylish and clean restaurant. The food was very good; we had blini and pierogi for starters, and borscht and chicken breast Kiev (stuffed and then breaded) for the main course. It was plentiful, but the friendly waitress packaged the pierogi beautifully. All in all, it was a worthwhile visit.

Highly recommended! The reviews we saw met our expectations and we were greeted with a warm smile. The service was competent, the nice waiter gave us friendly advice and the food was a taste explosion. We were passing through and if we had been here longer we would have tried the menu up and down. The food here is really delicious, the portions are generous, everything is fresh and perfectly prepared. The establishment is clean, the atmosphere is cozy, it’s a pleasure to be there. I would also like to note the service - the staff is polite, attentive, unobtrusive. A great place for a pleasant dinner, we will definitely come again!

We were with you today and ordered the grill plate and zakuski. The food was simply heavenly, the shish kebab was super marinated, all 3 types were juicy. The salads/zakuski were also excellent. We were really excited. The service was very attentive and fulfilled our every wish. Restaurant really nicely decorated. This restaurant deserves 10 stars.

If you want to eat deliciously, but really spoil your mood, come here. Drinks arrived 20 minutes after ordering. We asked for blankets 3 times, some had them on the terrace. They took it out and gave it to other people. The child was offended. We barely waited for the food and froze. The waiter, under the influence, started to clean one table, didn’t clean it enough, then went to clean the second one. They brought 2 forks for three people. They reminded me for the blankets, but they never brought them. In the end, what the hell, but the kebab is delicious. It's definitely not worth it

Good Russian cuisine that I wanted to bring to my visit from abroad. I've been there a few times and you always had to wait about 30 minutes for the Vareniki dessert with cherries. We did that the other day. After 1 hour we asked how long it would take. Another 15 minutes. We canceled. That spoiled the evening. Came back after 1 year and the Napoleon cake was delicious and super nice service from a young man and the boss.

If I could I would give 6 stars! The samovar is a real experience - perfect for anyone who loves Russian-Slavic cuisine or just wants to try it out. The food – simply incredible. Everything is fresh, homemade and prepared with so much love that you can taste it in every bite. The Vareniki and Pelmeni are a dream! What makes it all perfect is the wonderful staff. Friendly, attentive, but never fake – you really feel valued as a guest here. I'll definitely be back. If you love real, homemade food and want to immerse yourself in a warm, family atmosphere, you should definitely visit the Samovar!

Our waitress came from the Russian Autonomous Republic of Tatarstan and was very friendly - we especially enjoyed the traditional Russian dishes (see photo, we had shish kebab). Of course, besides the atmosphere, which includes the concept of a samovar (tea machine), the rest of the equipment is also very authentic. You can communicate perfectly in Russian, English and German, which greatly improves the experience. The ideal date for us is again with joy.

We drank tea with bagels. Taste of brewed toilet accessory, etc. I remembered the canteen in the USSR - a dubious pleasure for the "Zetniks".

Excellent, we were there for the first time today, but not the last time! :) Food was absolutely delicious, the Ukrainian borscht was a dream, the plates were large and colorful/well filled. The tea with the homemade elderflower syrup is world-class and is brought to the table on a large tray with cookies, kringles, chocolates and pralines (even if you reorder with a full tray <3) - price-performance is unbeatable! And the wonderfully beautiful cakes, we are more than satisfied! We'll be back - with family and friends! :) Spasiba!
