Sale e Pepe in Berlin

Food was good and came out pretty fast. However the service was appalling. My partner and I speak English and only know a small amount of German, we entered the restaurant and (in German) apologised and asked if they spoke English. So far no issues. We then sat down and ordered our food and drinks, again no issues yet. Then once we had finished eating and the plates were taken away, we were left at our table for 45 minutes to without anyone approaching to ask how the meal was, whether we wanted to order anything else or if we were finished. It felt like we were being ignored on purpose as the waiters would approach every table around us except for us, 1 waiter even had a conversation with the table next to us laughing and pointing at our table. I am aware we couldn't understand what was being said but pointing at us and laughing cannot be taken any other way than rude. Then had the cheek to ask for a tip. Long story short, if you're planning a visit to Berlin and don't speak much German, avoid this restaurant.

Small but very good Italian. Food is very good and the prices are very good. Be sure to reserve in advance.

Absolutely perfect place! Dining for 6 people, everyone's food is really good. The staff and the atmosphere are the best!

We ended up here spontaneously, looking for a late lunch while visiting Berlin. We had 3x pizza and 1x ravioli with porcini mushrooms. The children each devoured the pizza and said it was one of the tastiest pizzas they had had in a long time. My ravioli were delicious. The service was very nice and friendly.

My family and I had a great meal here yesterday evening and would highly recommend to others. The place is very popular and we were lucky to get a table for 4. Food and service were both very impressive and it’s reasonably priced too.

The food was good, especially the antipasti house plate! The atmosphere was intimate and cosy. And while the staff was bubbly, the lady that was our waitress did something that I have NEVER experienced, and I hope to never experience again. When we were done with the antipasti (using cutlery was required for the antipasti plate), she came to take our plates. We had placed our used dirty cutlery on the plates, as you normally do. She took the plates, but took the cutlery off and threw it back on the table. We were then served main course and the dirty cutlery wasn’t taken away, nor was clean cutlery given. Had to use the same cutlery for the main course. And while we enjoyed the food, the way the cutlery was handled left a bad aftertaste, so to speak.

Good Italian but not “very good”. Very nice atmosphere! But wouldn't come again.

Takeaway food was quick, but tasted below average. Pizza Margarita was ok, Spaghetti Aglio Olio had hardly any garlic. Rather too expensive for that.

My friends and I decided to sit down at this restaurant. The owner proceeded to tell us that it was full when there was 3 empty tables in clear view. We eventually did sit down and ended up waiting for 15 minutes and did not receive any menus or cutlery This was extremely disrespectful and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately this was a bad experience. The restaurant was full when we came in, so we decided to wait for the table. There we free tables outside but with 15 degrees and wind we didn’t want to sit outside. After few minutes we were asked to seat outside by the waiter and we agreed as there was a sun but we said if there will be any free table meanwhile, we would prefer to seat inside. I ordered pizza Sale e Pepe with burrata and truffle, and I didn’t feel any flavor of truffle at all and the cheese was more like mozzarella. Also we were cold as the sun goes and it was quite windy so the food get cold immediately and it was hard to eat with all my hair around. But this wasn’t the worst part. When we were paying we were asked to pay by cash (also fine for us) but the waiter wanted to keep the change and she suggested this is her tip, we were going to give her a tip anyway but how can she take it without our decision. So when we said no, she started to be rude and started insulting us in German, commenting loudly to her colleague and making sounds like "pfff". All in the presence of other customers.

It is a very beautifully presented restaurant, which also has an Italian flair. The food is really SUPER tasty and the staff are very friendly and attentive. We'd love to come back. You may want to make a reservation in advance as the restaurant is very full even during the week.

Absolutely recommended Italian. Top price-performance ratio with very friendly service. I was here with my two teenagers during our Berlin vacation. Unfortunately we don't have such a good offer at home, it would definitely be our favorite Italian restaurant. Calzone was generously filled and very juicy and the dough was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Pasta with chanterelles was a good portion and very finely balanced and the penne arrabiata was fruity and spicy.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and really affordable prices! The gentlemen are super friendly, create a great atmosphere and make it possible to have a lovely evening! Pizza and pasta taste good!

Nice authentic italian restaurant with kind personal..!

The food is average and nothing remarkable but it gets you out of trouble after spending all day sightseeing. The correct service although it was difficult to understand. We asked for a terrace and although we had to wait we were quite comfortable and they treated us very well.

Although I expected little bit more ingredients on the pizza it was very very very tasty!

In Berlin, wo alles sehr hektisch ist, da ist es in diesem Lokal in der Nürnberger Straße total entspannt. Bin bei schönem Wetter und Sonnenschein einmal am Abend und einmal am Mittag beim Essen gewesen. Ob am Abend die sehr leckere Pizza oder zum Mittagessen ein Saltimboca. Beides super lecker. Auch das Personal entspannt und freundlich. Obwohl fast alle Tische belegt waren. Sie waren die Ruhe in Person. Dieses Lokal kann ich mit sehr gutem Gewissen weiterempfehlen. War letztes Jahr auch schon 2 mal da und war genau so angenehm überrascht wie dieses Mal. Weiter so. Qualität, Freundlichkeit und vernünftige Preise zahlen sich aus. Got the bolognese pasta and a dish on their specials menu with white sauce and chanterelles. Can’t say this is the best Italian food but not bad for the price, only like 12.50 euros per dish. The bolognese pasta was eh. The chanterelle pasta was not too bad. Fast and friendly service.

Steak fried to perfection. The liver with onions and apple was excellent. The staff very polite and accommodating. All in all a perfect little restaurant!

Very good dishes, but the dishonesty of the waitress spoiled our experience. “Too late”, when splitting the bill in two, before a minute later she re-enters the amount she wants on the TPE. Furthermore, don't consider your customers gullible, this will prevent them from having such a bad time.

The pasta tastes homemade. Got a dish with salmon in lobster cream sauce, where the salmon was perfectly cooked and the sauce actually tasted of lobster! Absolutely fantastic. The tiramisu, on the other hand, was strangely tasteless, but drowned in a chocolate sauce - it was a shame. But still a clear recommendation. Would add that even though there were only a few guests, the staff were inattentive, we were not served by the same one, had to go to the till to pay, where the waiter then says you "can" tip 5% while she stands with the terminal in hand and can look to see if you give a tip. It was super bad style. So really good food, pretty bad service.

It was my first time to eat carbonara with tomatoes! I was surprised when I saw it, but when I ate it, it went really well with the sauce, and it was really delicious. I felt that the taste was a little different from the carbonara I've eaten so far, but it added another accent and was fresh, making it a very satisfying dish. Since credit card payments start from 20€, I ordered tiramisu for dessert. There are also apples around the tiramisu. The sweetness of the chocolate and the slight sweetness of the apple were well balanced and very delicious. I think it was about 25€ for carbonara, beer, and tiramisu. I think this price is quite reasonable for this taste. Please stop by when you come to Berlin.

Delicious Italian cuisine in a cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. Reservations would be recommended as all tables were occupied in the evening on both visits.

The food is delicious, the service staff is friendly, and there are a lot of customers. The pasta has a strong tomato aroma, the fried chicken steak is seasoned just right, the meat is charred on the outside and tender on the inside. We ate here twice whilst staying at the Lindner Hotel on Ku'damm. Good service and really nice food; be it the pasta, pizza or grilled chicken.

Food is nice, we had some pizza's and pasta's and it all tasted well. Friendly staff. Location is along a busy road and if you're sitting outside it's noisy.

It can be seen that they are doing well here. It's usually quite full. We didn't have room for dinner, a bottle of wine and dessert. Great service, thank you guy from Macedonia!! We will definitely come back when we go to Berlin again

Eating from taste went like this. When paying with a card you were asked to leave a tip. You should indicate on the card reader how much tip you would like to give. Bad business practices.

Best pizza in years… Emilio and his team are super nice

Wine tastes like piss, it was heavily oxidized and undrinkable and when I told about it, the waiter started arguing that the bottle was opened 10 hours ago, instead of replacing that. They refused to accept card payments from us, even though the couple next to us payed by card. It's next to a street and you constantly hear some random people raving their engines. In short: terrible place!

We have been waiting over an hour for a minestrone soup that was little more than water with red pepper. The main dish was pizza and they also took a while to serve it. When I told them that the mozzarella on the pizza was cold, they replied that mozzarella is a cold product (??) In short: waste two hours, get angry and eat badly. Not anymore!

We needed a casual dinner after a long flight. An outdoor table at Sale e Pepe was the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and tasty Italian food. The service was excellent.

We arrived quite late for lunch (approximately 3pm) and the kitchen was still open. The ambience was very nice, with italian music in the background, a candle lit up on the table and cozy decor. There were gluten free options available for every kind of pasta which we really appreciated! The service was super and overall quick. The food was amazing, and the bread with olive oil was awesome too. 10-20€ per person, would definitely return. thanks!!

By chance we visited this restaurant during our last stay in Berlin and it was great!! The three of us had pasta, pizza and a salad. Everything fresh and full of flavor. The service was also great, the tables outside had some flair (unfortunately the many cars were a bit annoying, but it was still fine).

The pizza was good, service as well. We ate 4 dofferent pastas and they weren’t bad but we didn’t really enjoy it either. Tiramisu however was bad and tasted nothing like how it should. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant if you want to go eat pizza, but nothing else.

An Italian restaurant with a simple design that matches the one that exists in the country of origin (including a typical checkered map on each table, etc.). The menu is relatively limited. We ordered pasta arbiata which was reasonable and pizza margherita which was good. For dessert we ordered tiramisu which was on the face (a big disappointment because in terms of appearance it looked good, but the taste was nothing at all).

Salty, average Italian food. Bolognese tasted like it came from a can.

In keeping with the season, I ordered a pizza with asparagus and salmon. A margarita came with, in total, an asparagus stick. The amount of salmon was also marginal (see photo). The waitress noticed the surprise on my face, so she asked if everything was okay? I pointed out the sparse covering and so she called the (possibly) boss. He pointed out that I would be the first to complain about this. He took the plate with him and added asparagus. Now the quantity was great, I didn't want to make an extra request to reheat the asparagus that came out of the fridge. (16.50€) Afterwards I was of course a topic of conversation among the employees. Card payment only from €20.

Every 6 weeks I walk past this restaurant and think: wow...that looks delicious. Today we wanted to eat there after a family trip. We didn't feel welcome, which was perhaps because we had our dogs with us. We sat outside and the dogs didn't make a sound. So we took the food home with us. The bag (see pictures!) was still included in the salad. So it was pre-cut salad with the appropriate dressing. Maybe from Netto next door? One does not know. There was savory on the pizza. However, the pizza was not topped with a single bean, but instead with champagne, salami and ham. Very strange... The pasta was very soft and after I found the bag in the salad, it was no longer edible. And the bruscetta... that was drier than rusks. It's a shame and no longer worth a visit for us. I prefer to eat in Reinickendorf in my tried and tested restaurants, where I am also welcome with my four-legged friends and where the guest is still king or queen.

The undertone of the staff shows whether you are welcome or not. And please do not bring any four-legged guests with you. Savory on pizza and bag in salad are absolutely a NO GO! And all in this oh-so-great tourist corner. That's where I promise myself my outskirts of Berlin, where every guest is welcome. So dear visitors to Berlin... give the outskirts a chance too. Food is better, service is better and everyone is welcome!!! PS: Stomach pain is included...

I was alone there and when I entered the restaurant I was looked at like the 8th wonder of the world. The restaurant is small but cute and invites you to linger. What was strange was that when I ordered I was asked how I wanted to pay. A little hint from the waiter that cash was better for the employees😉 The food we ordered was fresh, aromatic and very tasty. All in all, the restaurant is recommended
