Ristorante Le Candele in Würzburg

Unfortunately, we're now very disappointed with this restaurant. The prices have risen dramatically, so much so that you now pay €20 for a salad. The tablecloths have holes, and the menus don't seem well-maintained. The food is nothing special either; I'd say it's okay! It's a shame, it used to be different.

We were here for lunch. The lasagna arrived warmed up after 15 minutes (warm on the outside, cold on the inside). The pizza was okay but nothing special. The service was super friendly. The price/performance ratio isn't right here. The restaurant is expensive.

Hello. Everything deserves 5 stars! By far the best Italian restaurant in Würzburg. I always go there with my family, and I have to say I'm very satisfied! The waiters are very friendly and nice and are always there when you need something. In some restaurants here, you have to wait a really long time or you don't get served properly at all. I can really recommend it. I've tried a lot of things here, and everything is simply delicious. It feels like I'm in Italy.

Well I have to say I thought the le candele was really good, the service was very polite, the food came relatively quickly, the price is still affordable and you can sit outside and I really appreciate that

As soon as you open the menu, you have a bad feeling: a selection of about 10 types of pasta, which can then be freely combined with 20 sauces – plus over 20 pizzas, various versions of lasagna, three risottos, and other dishes with fish, meat, etc. – with a menu like that, the outcome is already clear: instant pasta, standard sauce, boring – if only it were cheap...

The ambiance, right in the pedestrian zone, is very nice. There's also a rooftop terrace. The food arrived incredibly quickly (less than 10 minutes wait) and was really good. The service was a bit lacking in focus and responsibility. We'll definitely be back.

Le Candele: Where Italian soul meets exceptional service! "Le Candele" has been a fixture in Würzburg for us for years, and for good reason! Originally discovered through the "Voucher Book" – and I believe this great 2-for-1 offer is still available – this restaurant has captivated us ever since. What makes "Le Candele" truly special is its unique philosophy: open daily, all day long, with a kitchen that runs nonstop! That's definitely a rarity in the restaurant world and incredibly convenient when hunger strikes outside of normal dining hours. We are absolute fans of the cuisine, the atmosphere, and the lightning-fast service. The dishes are simply delicious, and you can taste the Italian soul in every dish. A special highlight that we really appreciate is the daily lunchtime special: For only around €11-13, you get a main course AND a salad – an unbeatable combination that works every day and is simply fantastic. The only minor drawback is the ambitious price per glass for wine, but this is more than compensated for by the excellent value for money of the daily specials and the overall outstanding quality. At "Le Candele," everything just works: fast service, great food, a fantastic lunch menu, and reliable opening hours. And for those who like their food personalized: It's sensational that you can request extra cheese, garlic, or hot chili sauce! If you're looking for authentic Italian cuisine in a restaurant with heart and soul, this is the place to be. Highly recommended!

It used to be my favorite Italian restaurant, but personally, the "buon giorno" chatter from passersby gets on my nerves so much that I probably won't go there again... You're still chewing the last bite and your plate is already being taken away... The food is okay, but the atmosphere is crap... I've only really experienced that atmosphere in tourist traps in Istanbul...

Fast good and tasty food. Also vegan options, that's a plus. Atmosphere was a bit canteen. But completely ok for the prices of the dishes.

We picked up a pizza from there yesterday, and it was so, so good and, for €7, absolutely a steal! The sweetest thing of all was that they had one extra pizza and gave it to us for free! We were so happy, and it was absolutely delicious. The crust is perfect—not too crispy, not too doughy. I'm still so happy. I highly recommend it from the bottom of my heart!

After work, I was so tired that I really wanted something delicious to eat. I went to le Candele, and they have amazing dishes. I had spaghetti with crème fraîche and strips of fillet steak. The food came super quickly. I've never eaten such delicious pasta. WOW! The best part was the particularly friendly waitress, Medina. She was a truly wonderful waitress. Thank you so much, I'll be back!

We were in Würzburg for a lecture and wanted to grab a bite to eat before heading home. We went here because of the good reviews, which apparently weren't true. There was a lot of staff for the number of guests, which unfortunately didn't have a positive effect. Our drinks, although ordered immediately, only arrived after our pizzas had arrived, and then only upon request. The pizzas weren't from a wood-fired oven and looked like precisely shaped and relatively thick slabs of dough, similar to the base of a ready-made pizza. The toppings were rather sparse and didn't justify the €15 price tag. We treated ourselves to a cappuccino with cream, although the small cup was more like a latte with plastic whipped cream. The path to the restrooms, which are located in the basement, seemed dingy, and the stairs aren't suitable for older people. This place is definitely not a genuine Italian restaurant, and I was very disappointed. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it at all. 😔

Lucky to get a table at dinner time. Nice owner and great staff, always with a sense of humour in serving customers. Ordered a Calzone Classico pizza, a Combinazione pasta, a Tartufo Nero. All good and delicious.

So, as you can see in the attached photo, the lettuce is not fresh, and in addition very bitter. It was covered with nice arugula from the bottom. The corn was very hard and in addition tasteless. Unfortunately, the steak was mostly fatty, which was very unpleasant to eat. I was there for the first time on recommendation. I don't know how the other food tastes, but there were a lot of customers visiting this restaurant. Maybe I'll try another dish... overall rating is okay. Best regards

Tldr: Great food but be wary of €2 charge for tap water even when ordering a drink. I had one of the best Margherita pizzas I've ever tasted at this restaurant. However, I was charged €2 for tap water (Leitungswasser) even though I had ordered an accompanying drink. Every single place I've eaten in Germany was OK with providing free tap water as long as I ordered an accompanying drink. This would have been great to be told in the beginning.

Unfortunately, the pizza really wasn't good, especially when it came to the dough and the toppings weren't more than satisfactory either. The gnocchi were simply finished gnocchi and tasted that way, but the sauce with it tasted good at least. Too bad :/

Friendly service and delicious food!

I was in this restaurant again after many years. The food itself was very good, but the pasta was still a bit firm. I actually ordered pasta with Alfredo sauce, but received the pasta in a tomato cream sauce. If you type the title of the sauce into Google, something completely different actually comes up. When you asked the waiter, who was very friendly the whole time and also offered very good service, this sauce is always made like that - strange. In general, I find the prices a bit expensive compared to the competition and the food, especially the pizza, is not that convincing. Unfortunately, I simply know better alternatives in Würzburg, which are even in hotspots. For example, the Aperol costs €8.90 here, compared to only €6.90 for various competitors. Unfortunately also inauthentic carbonara with cream sauce. But of course you can come here for the food

I order takeaway here very often and the value for money is truly unbeatable. What you get here for 7 euros are still honest prices. The staff is friendly and reliable. We order from Le Candele at least once a week and have never been disappointed. Everything is just right in the restaurant: pleasant atmosphere, friendly service and quick service. Clear recommendation! For allergy sufferers there is also gluten-free pasta and pizza.

“Every dish is gluten-free!” That's a statement and we were thrilled. The gluten-free pizza didn't have to hide: delicious and crispy. We can recommend it without reservation.

Allows legitimate negative reviews to be deleted, which also creates the great average. Personally, I was very dissatisfied. PS: If you don't believe me, look at how many 1 and 2 star reviews there are. That's right, none! This is extremely unrealistic given the number of reviews and my review was also deleted even though it corresponded to reality.

I had a pizza delivered. This was fantastic, I rarely get something as good as delivery. Unfortunately she was too small. 30cm is stated, it was a maximum of 28cm at the widest point. Nevertheless, I am thrilled with the dough and taste and will order again

This was our second time here, the first time was in October 2024, now April 2025, on Easter Sunday evening! The restaurant was almost empty around 8 p.m. (not even a third of the tables in the lower part were occupied). In my opinion, the restaurant is completely overpriced for what it offers. This time I had a tuna salad, which according to the menu was supposed to have various lettuces, eggs, olives and of course tuna salad on it. Among other things However, under the mountains of leaves in the salad, I also found pieces of Parmesan that shouldn't have been there and which I don't like either (since Parmesan contains calf rennet!). I ordered the salad with vinegar and oil, as the menu says, to season yourself. However, there was already some balsamic vinegar on the salad, unfortunately everything was much, much too dry, which is why I asked the waiter for vinegar and oil, whereupon he said that it was already in there (!), I said it was much too dry, and after begging he brought me a bottle of vinegar and oil. I know from other Italians that you get a cruet directly on the table, especially if you have salad as a dish. By the way, the salad cost 19.90 euros, an insane price for this absolutely carelessly prepared something that consisted of 90% leaves - the price in a restaurant with this ambience and plenty of dressing or cruet on the table is a maximum of 13.90 euros, the price if you make it yourself with the best organic ingredients at home is a maximum of 6 euros. My companion had a vegetarian pizza with extra requests on it, I can't say anything about that. I will choose another Italian restaurant the next time I visit Würzburg.

There is also a wide selection outside of lunchtime, even gluten-free pizza and pasta dishes are offered, pizzas are large and tasty, friendly, attentive staff. We happened to pass by and would definitely go there again for dinner. Large guest area, therefore not so cozy. A few loose room dividers would certainly radiate more cosiness, and outdoor dining is also offered

The food was very good. But the ambience and service didn't get any stars because the tables were given away several times and the entire restaurant was full of tables. We sat in the aisle, everyone was waiting there and it was very tight. There was also a drag because the door was always open.

We had dinner there and my husband and I each had a pizza. Firstly, it was very small that my husband couldn't get enough. Secondly, my pizza tasted burnt. In terms of taste, we have both eaten better pizzas. The service was great (sometimes almost intrusive, as often as the staff asked if you wanted to order something else). Due to the location, we were seated downstairs. Everything was quite narrow and loud here. My husband was here a few years ago and sat upstairs. It shouldn't have been that narrow at the top. We wouldn't eat there again and can't recommend it.

Basically yes, pizza was very dark, burnt on the edge, but otherwise ok. The two of us stopped by while passing through and stopped in based on the very good reviews. I can only share this to a limited extent. When it comes to pizza, I've had much better ones. I thought it was great that the spelled-based dough could be selected.

We were in Würzburg on a quick trip and were looking for something on hand. The weather was fantastic, places in the sun were rare. We ordered pizza to go (all pizzas for €7, also available gluten-free and with spelled dough). Very hospitable and patient (couldn't decide what to eat), delicious pizza, relaxed and courteous staff. The coffee was also very good, brought to us while we waited for the pizza.

Pretty mediocre Italian restaurant that I wouldn't visit again. We were 8 people. Unfortunately, two people's orders were forgotten, so they didn't eat until much later (for this they were compensated with a side salad per person and repeated apologies). Unfortunately, my pasta with truffle sauce and parsley only tasted like cream, which was absolutely overrepresented in the dish. The carbonara is also prepared with cream... In my opinion, the menu is missing an absolutely classic pasta dish "alla puttanesca" (tuna, capers, olives and tomato sauce). These three facts lead me to question whether this is really an Italian restaurant or whether this is a restaurant that prepares pasta and pizza. Aperol spritz was ok, although the price was a bit excessive, blackcurrant spritzer was watery. Ie too high a water content and actually very little carbon dioxide! So dessert was skipped...

We had an absolutely fantastic dinner at Le Candele! From the warm hospitality of the staff to the incredibly delicious food, everything was perfect. We would particularly like to emphasize that my friend eats gluten-free and was still able to enjoy a delicious pizza. This is not a given and really impressed us. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very inviting and cozy. We felt completely at home and can recommend Le Candele without reservation. We will definitely come back!

Schlechtestes Essen seit Jahren. Wurde im September letzten Jahres zum Essen eingeladen. Steak war eine Frechheit und die Pfeffersoße kam anscheinend aus dem Päckchen. Ist schon auf dem Teller geronnen. Ungenießbar. Ambiente und der Service waren dagegen gut.

Very nice little Italian. Food was really good and there was a great selection. The service was also friendly but seemed very overwhelmed at times. The ambience is nice, but due to the close staggering of the tables, it is very loud in the restaurant and it quickly became too warm. Overall I still had a good stay.

Erst einmal möchte ich darauf hinweisen, dass die Betreiber bei Google alle Rezensionen mit ein oder zwei Sternen löschen lassen. Wer das nicht glaubt, werfe bitte einen Blick auf die Sterne-Verteilung: 2.426 Rezensionen und keine einzige Bewertung unter drei Sternen. Meine Rezension wurde auch gelöscht, obwohl sie der Wahrheit entspricht. Also nochmal hier grob zusammengefasst: Pizza war etwas zu kurz drin, trotzdem am Boden leicht verbrannt. Nudeln waren noch sehr al dente und hatten leider einen sehr unangenehmen Beigeschmack, der an verbranntes Plastik erinnert.

We went here because of the excellent reviews. The staff is very friendly, quick service. However, the pizza’s were “okay”, not 4.7 worthy. These were not real Italian pizza’s. The homemade oils were nice. Don’t go here if you want real Italian pizza’s.

Not recommended, couldn't get a seat despite reservation! What a bad service

The food was very tasty and the service was excellent. My girlfriend has celiac disease and is therefore not allowed to eat gluten or lactose. She would react even to small traces. The restaurant handled this perfectly and she was also able to enjoy the delicious food without any worries.

For us, a pizza or a pasta dish from “Le Candele” is simply a must when visiting Würzburg. The price for take-away pizza or pasta (€7) is simply unbeatable. And it tastes good too. Since our daughter has to eat gluten-free, it's not that easy to find something tasty that isn't overpriced. Here the gluten-free dishes to take away cost “only €5” extra. Top! You can also pre-order online. I personally don't like the atmosphere in the restaurant that much, but that's my personal opinion. The waitresses are all very friendly.

Unfortunately we had a seat on the 1st floor and the atmosphere is like a market hall. The food was average and lukewarm. Definitely not again.

Food was good, best bruschetta I've eaten out so far. Pasta al dente, only one dish a little salty, but that's probably a matter of taste. Service was quick and friendly, we asked several times if we wanted something more to drink. Tables are relatively close together. The restaurant was well attended. What struck me as particularly positive: care is taken to ensure that all the food comes to the table at the same time, so that all guests can eat together at the same table.

It was a completely successful evening. From the service to the food, everything was top. Very good food and good value for money. We would be happy to come back.
