Lovely restaurant, very friendly service. Prices a bit higher, but the portions were large. The food was delicious.

If the ambiance and parts of the menu throw you back to the 80s/90s, it either triggers childhood flashbacks or quickly feels outdated. Fortunately, at Ristorante Da Mario, it's the former, meaning good food meets fair prices. The staff were friendly and attentive.

We ate here today. We ordered rump steak with chips instead of potatoes with rosemary. The tall waiter confirmed that we had ordered chips. The food came with potatoes, but we told him we had ordered chips. He took it with him. Two minutes later he came back, saying that he didn't have any chips and the kitchen wouldn't take it back. His statement was very rude: I don't like rosemary and was forced to eat it because there seemed to be no other option. 15 minutes later the waiter said he would just bring pasta. We were almost finished. In conclusion, a huge restaurant that doesn't have chips on the weekend?? After that, the nicer thing to do would have been to ask what we would like as an alternative, and we would certainly have found a solution. What a shame, such a lack of hospitality! As an apology, they didn't charge for the espresso, but nothing of the sort.

Truly Italian, whether it's a business lunch, a date, or just a quick bite. It's always a hit here... Top service, delicious, and reasonably priced, and today even a very pleasant surprise. Thank you for that...

Great Italian food and very generous portions of pasta! The fresh bread to start was a nice touch. We ordered tomato soup, pasta, squid and all were very good!

We were here with a group on a Sunday in October 2025. Not many people, cozy atmosphere, attentive staff, delicious food.

The ambiance is great, but it doesn't really do the food justice. We had pizza and piccata Milanese yesterday. It was our wedding anniversary, and I would have preferred something different. The pizza wasn't really outstanding; the flavor was rather poor. The piccata Milanese was actually on the menu with spaghetti Napoli, but there was only a spoonful of Napoli sauce in the spaghetti, if that. The schnitzel was unfortunately burnt in some places. The service wasn't the friendliest either; all in all, I have to say I can get much better food and more pleasant service for my money elsewhere. The ambiance is really good here, but that doesn't help if the rest isn't up to scratch. We definitely won't be back.

Really nice place with big and satisfying dishes and authentic Italian restaurant vibe.

We had a reservation for a group of 30 people, including a toddler and a scooter rider. The seating was so close together that even the wait staff were shouting at each other, right at the table, so they couldn't serve us. We were given two menus for the entire group. When we wanted to order, we were told we wouldn't get an appetizer because they had 260 people, and they wouldn't be able to handle it. They served them to neighboring tables! Several times! The food itself was good. We couldn't even get dessert. When it came time to pay, the wait staff had to be asked three times to prepare the bill. To the team at Da Mario, sometimes less is more.

You can't go wrong. A slightly retro ambiance, friendly service, and a solid pizza. The dough was a bit too generic for me, lacking a bit of salt here and there, but everything was good. The restrooms were okay. Overall, a very professional restaurant!

Average, but pretty much the worst tiramisu I've ever eaten! Some of the food was cold, chanterelles with brown sauce! Overall, not recommended!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. It wasn't a coincidence; it was excellent value for money.

We returned to Da Mario as a large group after many years, and we were very disappointed. My wine glass was completely dirty, and instead of making me a fresh glass, the contents of my glass were simply poured into a new one. When I pointed this out, the waitress was annoyed. The pizza was worse than any discount store frozen pizza; it simply tasted of cardboard and cheap cheese. Overall, the service was unfortunately not at all inviting; the basics were not there. 2 stars because at least the food wasn't cold, and the restaurant overall seemed clean.

I have severe alpha gal allergy and they took it seriously and were very attentive to that. The salmon and grilled dorado were cooked perfectly and I did not need to worry about butter. Portions were generous and the food was delicious and satisfying. The atmosphere is old style and tradional, plenty of space and comfortable seating. Service was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend.

It's simply horrible, they don't bring out what you order and they don't even replace what's on the menu, we didn't get any bread and the food tastes burnt, blood is flowing from the steak, disgusting!

I got a Pizza with ruccola which was alright, the dough not particularly tasty on itself. Interesting Pasta options and portions were plentyful which is appreciated. Bruschetta as an appetizer 5 pieces for 6€ was great. Other prices weren't cheap but the atmosphere and ambience made the experience enjoyable overall. Another plus, especially for older people, is the escalator going up to the restaurant which is on the first floor

I was so excited when i saw that they have dishes with pumpkin during fall time and the tortellini were super tasty! the service was really quick but the ambiance is still calm and cozy. Overall i would recommend this place since it was a big variety of dishes but it is on the pricier side.

One of my favorite restaurants in Heidelberg. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, and the food is served quickly and freshly. The staff has always been attentive. A recommendation any time of day.

The food was incredibly delicious; if you're craving Italian cuisine, we highly recommend it. The portions are incredibly large, making them unbeatable for a woman. We ordered the Garnelen-Coctail, Tagiatelle with Salmon, and Ravioli with meat filling. The dining room is beautiful and elegant, making it a great option for special occasions.

NEVER EVER go to this place. The restaurant is full of racism and nonsense. We were forced to move to a different table, despite having reserved one in advance, and were told full of lies. If it was reserved for some other group, then where was our reserved table? Eventually, no one was sitting at the table that was clearly marked as 'reserved', which was originally ours. That's how we found it was full of lies and racism.

The food was good, but the service was terrible. We had reserved a table for 12 people. It was a 30th birthday party. The table was only designed for 11 people. The waiter then moved another table, but at a 90-degree angle, so people sat with their backs to each other. This was incomprehensible, as the restaurant still had plenty of space. When we asked if it could be done differently, he said it wasn't his problem. After we got a bit louder, we finally got a decent table. Another unpleasant moment was when the waiter insulted his younger colleague, especially because he did something wrong. That's unacceptable, no matter how good the food tasted.

My fiancée and I went there for dinner, and I have to say, when we walked in and saw the boss, we thought he didn't even feel like breathing, but okay, so I politely asked him if they had a table for two. Suddenly, he looked at me, rolled his eyes, and just turned away. I've never experienced anything so disrespectful. I should have said what was wrong with him right away, but I saved myself the stress and ate there anyway. The food could honestly have been better in my opinion, but to each his own, of course. The statue in front of the restaurant is definitely in a better mood than the boss himself, who at least smiles.

Even though Da Mario doesn't look particularly inviting from the outside at first glance, we ate there today and the value for money was excellent. We had bruschetta and a Caprese salad for starters, and then a combination dish and one of the chanterelle mushroom dishes for main course. Everything tasted wonderful, and the service was perfect! Highly recommended.

A very cozy atmosphere, despite the restaurant's size. The food was excellent. The staff were extremely attentive and humorous. Everything was okay except we asked waiter that we have mushrooms allergy so don't add to food but they served with that. Cassata Ice cream was very good.

Absolutely delicious! We've been here several times and are always impressed. The pizza is fantastic, but the carbonara and lasagna are also really good. I love the atmosphere; it's really cozy. The view of the city is also cool!

A perfect Italian restaurant We ordered pizza formaggi, funghi and vegetarian and they all came out perfect.

I had spaghetti with pesto sauce.. there was also a margarita pizza on the table.. I can't say anything about the taste.. it's not super delicious.. it's edible.. but the staff was incredibly sullen.. as if they were saying why did you come, get up as soon as possible.. random service.. random collection.. I didn't like it.. I don't recommend it...

This is a personal review for a single visit that I won't repeat. My order was specifically based on the daily specials displayed at the entrance. However, I was served the business menu, which might have appealed to some people, but definitely not me... Pizza Tonno (tuna) instead of Pizza Salami + Mushrooms. When I pointed out the error, I was repeatedly shown the menu with the business menu. They weren't familiar with their own daily specials. The service deteriorated accordingly. For me, this is now a no-go!

Bolognese was underwhelming, not enough flavor

The food was great, but unfortunately we had to wait forever for it. Unfortunately, the service was understaffed that evening, and it felt a bit rushed. Absolutely top-notch value for money!

A few years ago, I really enjoyed my meal here. This time the starter was good; we had Variation 08. The vegetables were very fresh. For the main course, I had a Pizza Diavolo, and my wife had a seafood risotto. I didn't particularly like the pizza dough; it seemed as if it had been prepared and used immediately. My wife only tried the risotto briefly. The rice wasn't cooked through, there was sand in it (probably from the mussels), and the seafood was probably cooked for too long. What a shame. The quality isn't the same anymore.

Very good pizzas, friendly servers, and reasonable prices. We ate here because of the good reviews and were not disappointed. We were here on a Sunday at 4 p.m., and it was very quiet. The food was on the table in just 15 minutes. We'll be happy to eat here again on our next visit to Heidelberg :)

The restaurant is very large and very loud. Tables were constantly being pushed together to squeeze in even the last guests. It was very narrow between the tables, and a passage to the exit was later blocked by tables and chairs. It's not possible to enjoy a leisurely meal here. The waiters seemed very hectic and stressed. They took away your plate even though other people were still eating at the table. The food (pizza in my case) was quite bland and needed more seasoning. Other portions were rather minimal for the price. The icing on the cake was when a waiter, while resetting a table, finally placed a fork that had fallen on the floor for the guest.

It seems all the effort went into the escalator and the bathroom (which are really nice), but the gnocchi filled with goat cheese and truffle looked like it was trampled on by the goat 🐐 🐐 🐐. I mean, just look at the pictures. By the way, the goat also ate half of the tomato 🍅 ⚰️⚰️🔪. With all due respect to the staff, who were nice.

The ambience is good, as is the service. The food was mixed: the asparagus cream soup was good, the house recommendation, tagliatelle with chanterelles, was not at all. I.e. passable without chanterelles.

We were so looking forward to a good Italian meal. Unfortunately the food wasn't good. The starter of beef carpaccio was much too warm, it is actually cut and served cold. No parmesan either. Unfortunately, pizza was also terrible. Both pizzas took a long time before they were served. And then they came cold. For the Caprese pizza, the morzarella and tomatoes were placed on the pizza ice-cold after baking. The whole dough was spongy and also cold. Never had such a bad pizza. There was no apology or compensation from the waitress...e.g. in the form of a coffee. Just like you actually do when you want the customer to come back. Maybe they don't need it anymore. Except the young female service person was very nice and at least tried to apologize! Unfortunately we cannot recommend the restaurant!

Super loud and completely overcrowded. We backed out again when the cellar placed the cutlery with fork tines, knife blades and spoon bowls in front of us. Therefore, unfortunately there is no food rating from us.

I went to this restaurant with family and friends. It was completely empty, and we thought maybe it was just because it was Sunday. But slowly, we understood why no one was there. The pizza wasn’t good at all, despite what we had heard. From the moment we arrived, the waiter was impolite. He tried to fake an Italian accent and claimed he only spoke Italian and German, not a word of English. He was cold and unfriendly the whole time. We were a group of 10 people, enjoying our evening and sharing our second bottle of wine, when suddenly, the waiter came to our table and told us very rudely that the restaurant was closing and we had to leave. No smile, no kindness—just a harsh tone. He could have said, “We’re closing soon, please take your time to finish,” and we would have understood. But instead, we felt pushed out. It was a very unpleasant experience. When I told him he was rude, he kept pretending not to understand English. How can someone working in such a touristy place not speak basic English? It was disappointing and upsetting. We left feeling unwelcome.

The location and location are great. The escalator at the entrance is super cool. The furnishings in the restaurant are well chosen. We actually had an indoor space. When we asked, we were able to move to the balcony without any problems. My meal, a lasagne, was ok. I expected more in terms of taste. Unfortunately it was hardly warm either. Salad a bit small. Prices are ok, service was good.

Abbiamo preso: 3 porzioni di bruschetta, 5 paste, 2 birre, 3 bicchieri di vino e due porzioni di dolce. L'esperienza nel complesso è stata soddisfacente, il servizio nonostante la particolare giornata di festa, è stato effettuato in tempi accettabili. Ritorneremo.

It's a shame, the Tagliata di Manzo with the lightly roasted potatoes was legendary. It no longer exists, although it is still posted on the internet. Grilled cuttlefish instead. The rosemary potatoes were totally overcooked boiled potatoes, straight from the fridge, cold. The service as a whole was very unfriendly. An institution for years, even decades. Now an underground price/performance ratio. Even without a business degree, the new tenant should know that it doesn't work that way. The ambience and the excellent location no longer help. Better go somewhere else. It's a shame about this time-honored gem. I enjoyed going there and spending my money for more than 25 years. Not even third class anymore. Now it's time to say: What a shame about this pearl. Goodbye my Damario. We won't see each other again...

There are no complaints about the food, the chefs do a good job, although the pizza was a bit burnt and my friends were not served cheese with their pasta. But that's more about the service. The waiter wasn't friendly. He served the guests differently. When it came to payment I asked to pay by card. He asked me how much tip I wanted to add to the amount. I replied that I wouldn't leave a tip (I wanted to leave it in cash), to which he became indignant and threw the check on the table at me. After such an incident, of course I didn't give him a tip. Would I recommend this restaurant? As for the food - yes, but the service - never. I would also like to note that another waiter served us very friendly. Please check your staff.

We were disappointed with the quality and price of the products. However, our opinion seems not to have pleased the owner who asked Google to delete it. You have to know how to accept bad reviews!

For me it was actually the best pizza I've eaten. BUT unfortunately the waitresses were extremely unmotivated people, it won't be that difficult to smile a little, I'm not motivated at work every day but I don't let my customers feel that. We usually love going there, but yesterday was very disappointing. Unfortunately, everyone was consistently rude... From the entrance, to the seating, to the ordering process. The waiter didn't even really listen to me and kept turning away, as if he was telling me when I was finished ordering. The food, unfortunately, wasn't good either. My fish was full of bones, and both of our meals were too cold. It wasn't until we paid that he suddenly became friendly... and the price for the disappointing "package" was unfortunately too high.

It's worth the price ratio location and portions are very large. The food isn't always good, but if you're lucky you can have a good time. Coffee and cake are always worth it. Small terrace, you are not allowed to reserve seats outside

Plain and simple, a totally messed up family evening👎There were six of us in the restaurant today, the word restaurant isn't worth it. After 15 minutes we had to ask if we could order drinks. After another 15 minutes we placed an order for food. The starters came at some point and there was inedible ruccola on the salads, so they went back. After several inquiries as to where our food was, yes, we would have had a starter. After an hour and a half we left the store frustrated and hungry. Completely overwhelmed and unfriendly staff. A few months ago it was just the two of us and it was the same thing. From our point of view, the good reviews are incomprehensible and no one will see us there again. It's a shame that a nice atmosphere is destroyed like that. That's definitely not the way to treat guests. Oh and judging the food is probably out of the question 👎👎👎👎 I'll only post here if you check the box, you can all forget about that.

Very good location and great food! We've had lasagna, carbonara, seafood risotto and diabolo pizza. Lasagna and pizza were absolutely amazing! I still think about how delicious it was. Staff were nice and welcoming. Would love to visit again when I get a chance.

Wir, 3 Freundinnen waren auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt in Heidelberg. Trotz des weiten Weges durch die Hauptstraße, haben wir uns entschlossen, im Da Mario Mittag zu essen. Wie immer, köstlich, preiswert und sehr freundlich bedient❣️

But it didn't blow us away. Pizza somehow tastes a bit bland. Bruschetta was quite good. Also, the waiter was a bit annoyed. We ate there on January 1st, 2025. It may also be that you don't necessarily want to work when most people are still free and celebrating the New Year. Nevertheless, we didn't really feel welcome as guests.
