Rheinlust in Bonn

Unfortunately, we waited over an hour for our food. We came to eat together, but my mother's meal arrived so much earlier that she had already finished eating by the time I got mine. So we both had to eat separately – that's unacceptable. When we asked the waiter about it, they replied, "It's not my fault." We weren't offered any compensation.

Very slow and inattentive service!

Totally unfriendly staff!!!! The food is good, but I've been observing this rude behavior for a while now and it only puts me in a bad mood. Stupid facial expressions and disrespectful sighs and eye-rolling when the lady tells me that a tip isn't enough. He even tells his colleague in front of me how greedy I am for rounding up a €21.90 bill to "only" €25. The boss should keep an eye on his employees and sort out who doesn't belong there. The blonde, chick staff needs to go; it's a shame considering the food, the restaurant, and the overall atmosphere.

So, I was there on Saturday. A disastrous experience. Never again! The blonde waitress insulted her colleague in front of me, which I find completely unacceptable, especially in front of customers. This disrespectful behavior between employees is truly disgraceful and very unpleasant. Unfortunately, this situation was passed on to me, which ruined my entire evening. Overall, I can say that the food was actually okay, and I usually go there often, but I've never experienced anything like this before! This is completely unacceptable!!!

The place is very dirty. There's dirt and cobwebs everywhere you look. The dust on everything is terrible. The food comes at different times. The drink labels on the table are dirty, and some are moldy. Not recommended, once and never again.

Went there with friends for the first time today. Maybe it was an exception, but unfortunately, the first impression, apart from the ambiance, wasn't that great. The waitress seemed unmotivated, and her tone was often annoyed. It felt like she came by every 10 minutes wanting to clear something away. There was no motivation. I expected the food to be better, but it was edible and unfortunately much too expensive for the price. What's completely unacceptable these days is that you can't pay by card, and there's no notice on the website or at the door saying you can only pay in cash. I had to borrow money from friends! Because I didn't have that much cash with me. There should at least be a notice saying you can't pay by card so that something unpleasant like this doesn't happen! The chef also looked annoyed when someone accidentally stood in his way because they had to make way for someone who wanted to go through. I saw him roll his eyes and sigh in annoyance. Guys, if you don't want your job, do something else! If I worked like that, I would have been given a warning or even terminated. But since it can be an exception, we'll give you another chance at some point. Perhaps next year, in the hope that you take this review or the other reviews seriously and change things for yourselves. Otherwise, the location itself is really nice and pleasantly designed; now the inner attitude of every employer and employee has to be right. So everyone deserves a second chance, and I'm confident that things will be better next time 🙂😉

We visited the beer garden and enjoyed a lovely view of the Rhine. Since the weather was mixed, it wasn't very busy, and there were plenty of free seats, and we were able to park in the nearby parking garage. The menu offers traditional German fare, including burgers, pizza, and pasta. The food was plentiful and good. The value for money was good. The service was friendly and attentive.

A disappointing evening at the Rheinlust – unfortunately with an unpleasant ending There were five of us (two children, ages 2 and 12) for dinner at the Rheinlust and we had ordered everything together. Of the two appetizers, only one arrived – for the other, they said there was no bread. The second appetizer arrived at the same time as the first main course, which was also incomplete. The second main course arrived a few minutes later, after which we waited in vain for about 20 minutes for the rest. When we asked when we would receive our complete meal so we could eat together as planned, we received a rude reply that they had no influence on which dishes the kitchen prepared first. A request to speak to the manager was initially declined – he was in the building but unavailable for discussion. It took another 20 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive, including for our two children (ages 2 and 12), whose mood was understandably at rock bottom at the time. Some of the dishes were cold or incomplete, and the unpleasant situation spoiled our appetites – some plates therefore remained almost untouched. When we tried to explain the problems with paying, all we got was a curt smile and the comment that it was "so busy" and they really had to get back to work. At that point, however, the restaurant was at most half full, almost empty inside, and there were numerous unoccupied beer benches outside. We had expected to be taken even remotely seriously – instead, we never felt understood and were treated to condescending smiles. Our second attempt to speak to the manager was also rejected. Instead, a young man appeared, looming over us in front of our children, and shouted loudly: "Who doesn't want to pay here?" – without asking what had happened. Attempts to explain and pointing out that his demeanor was inappropriate only encouraged him to threaten us with the police. We deeply regret that this shift supervisor, who only wanted to give his first name when asked and arrogantly emphasized that "everyone knows who he is," ruined a truly wonderful day for us with his behavior. As is so often the case, a person here has a responsibility to their guests that they are clearly not intellectually capable of fulfilling, and it was only because of our children that we decided to let this go for now and avoid the escalation strategy. A shame about the €104 – and certainly our last visit to this (restaurant) establishment.

The food is good. The service is sometimes inattentive. It's good for guests who just want to chill, drink little, and are happy to wait a long time. It's a shame, but you don't have to go there every week.

I'd give it six stars if I could. A beautiful beer garden, a lovely winter garden, and a lovely restaurant. Friendly service and delicious food at reasonable prices. We'll be back!

I sat for 20 minutes, 1 meter from the drinks counter. The waitresses and waitresses were chatting, as the beer garden was only about 1/3 full. I tried to order twice and was put off. Then I told the staff that I'd been trying to order for 20 minutes, after being asked twice, but nothing had happened. The response was "Oh, and I left... There was no further response. Too bad, not recommended...

Disappointing meal, waited forever, only the extremely dedicated service deserves the star rating. After a bike ride, we stopped by for lunch today. Our drink order came quickly, and the iced tea and beer were delicious. BUT: everyone around us, even those who arrived later, got their food on time. When we asked, the waitress apologized and said she'd check with the kitchen, so we'd get our food next. Currywurst fries with a side salad arrived, but the sausage had apparently been sitting for a while and had been fried again while still sliced. The rump steak with pepper sauce didn't even arrive, just the side dish. Five minutes later, this disappointment arrived. I ordered a medium steak. What arrived was a seared, completely raw piece, bleeding through and through, something that definitely couldn't even be described as rare. Fortunately, the waitress kindly canceled this dish, so at least the bill was reasonable. Never again!!!!

Unfortunately not recommended due to poor, ignorant service

It's a shame. I've been coming here for years and have never experienced anything like this. When I put my plate down immediately after receiving it, I expect someone to ask what's wrong or if everything is OK. Instead, the waiter walks past my plate ten times, visibly looks at it, and moves on. The other people I was with had already finished their food, and I didn't even get a chance to replace it... simply terrible service. I brought the plate in myself and handed it over. No apologies, just questioning looks instead... well, I won't be coming back for food. Maybe for a drink, because the atmosphere is still great.

I met with colleagues there, and almost everyone was satisfied. The price/performance ratio was reasonable. We enjoyed the food. The cocktails were also delicious. The service was friendly. Despite the summer rain, we had a lovely evening. One point deducted because the smoke from the smoking area kept drifting in, and the chairs were a bit uncomfortable and everything was a bit cramped, but we would definitely come back and maybe then finally want to sit on the terrace in nice weather with a view of the Rhine! A wonderful location with underground parking in the Brückenforum around the corner!

I can't agree with the negative reviews. The waiters were always extremely friendly, and the food (spaghetti Bolognese) was excellent. Sometimes it's just the customers who are unfriendly ;)

Beautiful location, but disappointing service The location directly on the Rhine is truly stunning – you can sit outside, and there's also a winter garden. The mix of beer tent furniture and regular chairs creates a relaxed atmosphere. The selection of drinks and food is also extensive and varied. Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to the positive first impression. The waitress didn't know the menu and was overwhelmed when we ordered a finger food plate. Instead of the requested chicken nuggets, chicken wings, and spring rolls, we were given falafel, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and hash browns with a herb dip – which neither met our expectations nor was commented on. To make matters worse, our plate was cleared away while we were still eating – without even asking. Considering the price, that's very annoying. There were also discrepancies in the bill, so it's recommended that you count the bill yourself. The cappuccino was served with a "cookie" that was more like a tiny marzipan ball – not very convincing. The coffee was okay, but the beer was good. Overall, a place with a lot of potential, boasting a beautiful location – but the service and food desperately need improvement.

As always at Rheinlust: long waits (100 minutes for the first pizza, the others are still waiting). The food is mediocre if you don't have high standards. Service, when you get it, is typically poor. This place is proof that location is all that matters. Otherwise, the place would have gone bankrupt long ago. A little tip: bring hungry customers a slice of bread after an hour...

Not recommended except for the location. - Card payments are not accepted, and it's 2022. - Receipts are not issued, and even upon request, they say, "We don't issue receipts here." - Bottled water is served in regular containers without labels. This means it's most likely just tap water or home-made sparkling water. - Service is sometimes very unfriendly.

Aus Köln angereist und es hätte so schön sein können! Größeres Restaurant direkt an der Rheinpromenade gelegen, mit Gastraum, Wintergarten und Außenbereich mit Liegestühlen und Füßen im Sand. Umfangreiche Speisekarte von diversen Salaten über Burger und Pizza bis zu verschiedenen Fleischgerichten. Ist für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Wir waren mit mehreren Leuten, jeder hat etwas anderes bestellt und jedes Gericht war frisch zubereitet, optisch ansprechend auf den Tellern angerichtet und es war wirklich alles sehr lecker. Gute Portionsgröße. Punkteabzug allerdings für das amateurhafte und unmotivierte Personal. Welche Gerichte aus sind, bekommt man erst zu hören wenn man gewählt hat und bestellen will. Auf den Hinweis, daß sie es hätte sagen können als sie die Karte brachte, hört man nur ein gelangweiltes "ja". Bei einer Bestellung wurden Kartoffeln gegen Süßkartoffeln getauscht ("Kein Problem "), es kamen natürlich Kartoffeln, nach mehrfacher Nachfrage kamen die Süßkartoffeln als das Essen beendet war. Leere Gläser werden ignoriert, nach einer Bierbestellung (1Glas) kam nichts, reklamiert man, bringen 2 Bedinungen unabhängig voneinander 2 Bier. Als Krönung: keine Kartenzahlung, cash only! ("Das ist hier eben so") Dieses ganze Paket kann einem das tolle Essen verleiden.

People only go to Rheinlust in the summer for the location and the view. The food isn't good, the service is unfriendly and inattentive, and they haven't been trained in the service industry. It's no wonder they only employ students. Payment is cash only, which is completely outdated. That should be changed. We only go to Rheinlust for sangria, and it's gotten incredibly expensive. The prices are generally very high for what you get.

(Beer, Aperol, and beer) About the food: 90-minute wait for the food... -Rhein-Lust-Pfann (Rhine Lust pan) too expensive for less than 100g of meat -Arugula pizza with weeds in between -Veggie burger came another 30 minutes after the other food -Appetizer arrived after the main course was finished -Forest and Sea salad was good, especially the shrimp. Quote from a fellow customer about the fries: "Wow, no" Bread with olives came twice, quite nice, but there were definitely too many olives. Way too many... Now my stomach hurts. At least you can smoke right after eating, which made it a bit more palatable. The service was very friendly, but the place clearly doesn't have its own capacity on board. Only the outside area was full, and yet orders were forgotten. The aforementioned wait time and the seemingly endless supply of olives. Wenn man was trinken möchte ist es ganz ok, aber ich habe heute das schlechteste Schnitzel bekommen, welches ich je gegessen habe !!!! Auch die Currywurst war ne Frechheit! Das Lokal war schmutzig und die Einrichtung alt und verlebt. Also nicht zu empfehlen 🥹

The service is perfectly impeccable. The aubergine is the best I've ever had (and I've been an aubergine fan since I was a child). The atmosphere couldn't be any better.

Endless waits for food, which is then served in absolutely terrible quality. The currywurst was undercooked, like a white sausage, and the curry sauce looked and tasted like stale tomato soup. The fries weren't crispy. The schnitzel didn't arrive even after 40 minutes. You can only get a water there if the weather is nice and enjoy the sun terrace. The staff is mostly friendly, but unprofessional and disorganized.

Ich kann mich den vielen negativen Bewertungen nur anschließen: Wir warteten ca. 40 Minuten auf eine Currywurst und ein Schnitzel, - und es tat sich nichts. Als wir dann unverrichteter Dinge gehen wollten, brachte man, nach weiteren 5 Minuten warten, nur eine Speise, die Currywurst. Die sah wie eine Weißwurst aus, war erkennbar nicht durchgebraten, schwamm in einer "eher hellen Tomatensoße" und die Pommes sahen auch unappetitlich aus. Als wir dann darauf bestanden zu gehen, wurde die Bedienung auch noch frech, - eine angelernte Hilfskraft, von Service keine Ahnung und einfach nur schlimm. Man kann dort ein Glas Mineralwasser trinken, wenn man die Terrasse genießen möchte. Das war's dann aber auch!

Very good food in a very nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the very friendly staff were so uncoordinated that after 10 minutes, I pointed out that I wanted to eat with my daughter. I was really looking forward to our date night at this bar/restaurant during a lovely art night event — and for the most part, it delivered. The setting was cozy, the event itself was great, and the art instructor was absolutely phenomenal. We had a genuinely enjoyable evening and appreciated the creativity and atmosphere. The service started off okay — the staff seemed new and still getting the hang of things, which I understand. Everyone starts somewhere, and I respect that. However, the experience took a disappointing turn when it came time to pay. While we were sitting, enjoying a beer and chatting with the instructor, one of the waitresses approached us in an extremely rude and unprofessional manner. She questioned me with something like, “Why are you looking so stupid? It’s only cash,” — which left me stunned. Not only was this comment completely out of line, but I also found it surprising and frustrating that in a city like Bonn, a bar would not accept card payments at all. Businesses really need to step up here — not every guest carries cash, and they shouldn’t be shamed for it. It’s not about the lack of card payment alone, but the way it was handled that was unacceptable. That kind of behavior can easily drive good customers away.

Unfortunately, it was a real disappointment. The Rheinlust may have a beautiful location, but that was about it. The atmosphere was cold and uncomfortable, the place seemed unkempt and uninviting. The service was extremely inattentive and at times even rude. We had to wait forever for anyone to come – and when we finally got around to ordering, we were treated like we were disturbing them. The drinks were completely overpriced for what you get. My cocktail was watery, poorly made, and tasted more like juice than a real drink. The beer was also stale and not properly chilled. Overall, the evening was a disappointment. There are many bars in Bonn with better service, better quality, and a much more pleasant atmosphere. I certainly won't be visiting the Rheinlust again.

They don't accept card payments. We ordered Kölsch and got Westerwald beer. Service was slow, and the waitresses were incredibly unfriendly. If the location weren't so fantastic, I would never go back.

I was here at Rheinlust again. We had to chase the waitress to get one. We ordered coffee and cake. The coffee came relatively quickly, the cake 20 minutes later. It was cheesecake, ice cold to begin with, and then thrown onto the plate so that a piece had already fallen apart. Impossible. If it's annoying to order cake here, it should be taken off the menu. But many other reviews speak for themselves. There are other restaurants.

Only cash payment, which is only indicated by a barely recognizable sign on the table sign. When I asked the waitress about it because we had already ordered, she reacted so unfriendlyly, something I have rarely experienced. Every customer should ask at the beginning whether card payment is possible and I now “owe” the restaurant money. Please go to the bank immediately and leave a cell phone as collateral. The waitresses all seemed inexperienced and overwhelmed or understaffed .

We used to enjoy coming to Rheinlust often, but that will probably be different in the future. The quality of the food has decreased, but at the same time the prices have of course increased significantly. There is also a lack of motivated service, which is why it takes forever to be served. We had to approach the waitress ourselves to even be noticed. And if you continue to consistently not offer card payments in 2025, it will simply no longer be up to date, but the reasons for this are obvious anyway. Our complaint (not completely cooked sweet potato) was more or less ignored, price reduction or a credible excuse? None. Then there were degrading looks because of the small tip.

Very nice by the water. Burger was tasty but a bit thinly topped. Fries and salad look very simple. Service was very chaotic. Brought to the wrong citizen and lied when asked that it was the correct order. When collecting the money, convince other waiters that you got the wrong citizen and only got ketchup and no mayo.

Actually a wonderful location on the Rhine, but apparently this is enough to generate sales. We had a salad and fries. The salad was very bland and almost tasteless. 4 lettuce leaves, a bit of grated carrot, 3 mushy pieces of tomato and 3 pieces of turkey. The dressing was definitely not seasoned and everything was presented completely carelessly. The fries came completely without salt. And since we didn't see the small "cash only" sign that was covered by the decoration, I had to walk to the bank first. Welcome to 2025. Conclusion: NEVER AGAIN!

Catastrophe, how can you go wrong with couscous and raw food? We assume we have salmonella. That doesn't speak for the cleanliness of the kitchen. In addition, I can only say one thing: the ambience belies the rest. Cash only, which suggests the cash register handle and a few tax tricks, because every restaurant of this type also offers EC payment, which costs nothing. I already had enough EC devices myself. The drinks were pretty much the most expensive I've seen in Bonn so far.

I rarely write bad reviews, but the one star I give here is for the view of the Rhine. I don't know what else attracts customers there. The tables are so close together that you can hardly walk. The background noise is correspondingly loud. The staff tries hard, but is definitely overwhelmed. You should pay 5.80 for a peppermint tea... Otherwise, I say steer clear of the raw food platter. Three people from different households who shared the plate were allowed to spend the night in the bathroom. Where else are you better off?

When the weather is nice, simply enjoy a non-alcoholic banana wheat with a beautiful view of the Rhine on your motorbike. Unfortunately, only cash payment is possible.

The service: Very nice and committed; Due to high staff fluctuation, you should approach the "waiting time" with common sense - i.e. if you have a pot of coffee, ask again after 10 minutes, unless the barista is just running to the plantation and hand-picking the coffee beans; This usually happens very rarely, so I can't understand the excitement of the guests - just observe and open your mouth and ask nicely and it's done (it depends heavily on the time of the semester: beginning of the summer semester/spring = service is always tried; end of the summer semester = always with interest in the matter). The location is what defines the store: we enjoy being here regularly.

I was invited back to Rheinlust for the first time in a very long time. We were there in the late afternoon during the week, unfortunately the service was completely overwhelmed - because it was probably mainly unskilled temporary staff - the food was brought to us several people by the plate individually, which felt like 10 minutes. between the first and last plate. Food (burger/pizza/penne) was so-so, unfortunately nothing special and too expensive for that, the burger in particular is better in the snack bar and above all - what I would expect - homemade (ingredients from the chest, I assume?). Ambiance in the afternoon sun is very nice, but I think that you have to get a lot more out of the potential of the terrace! It's a shame, Rheinlust could do so much more!

I found it very pleasant here. Sitting by the Rhine, eating a good meal and enjoying a cold beer. This is a great place to end your Easter walk along the Rhine. Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way, because the restaurant is very well attended.

As new residents of Bonn, we have been trying out a new restaurant every week for lunch for a few months now. The Rheinlust has a great location, wonderfully sunny and with a great view of the Rhine. Apparently the owner sees no need to turn his temporary wooden hut into a proper building. Even when it comes to eating, you have to be content with decent home cooking. We couldn't find any culinary surprises on the menu. But the food was good quality and the beer was very good. Thanks to the very committed and nice staff. The price level is rather at the upper end. What's really starting to annoy me is that even for sales above 40 euros, only cash payment is accepted. I think this is no longer acceptable and this taste is always left behind. Therefore only 3 stars.

The view was beautiful but the staff were not at all professional, in fact, to be honest, the girl who served us was very rude. We waited for almost an hour for a very simple Pfannekuchen and requested it twice more which then never arrived. The first time she responded badly saying that the dessert will arrive but now she just wanted to know if I wanted anything else while the second time she wanted to be paid and I told her that I wouldn't pay for the dessert (it never arrived) instead of apologizing she allowed herself to speak with such rudeness saying that it's not just us but they have to serve other people (I repeat a wait of almost an hour for a dessert). One star is too much but to be able to write a review I have to give it.

Very nice location, but unfortunately the service is a bit overwhelmed. She wanted to let us know that it was normal to have to wait about an hour for a simple pancake because she was so stressed...

But that you sit for 45 minutes in front of empty glasses until the next order is taken, and then the food arrives so fragmented that the first person is already finished... BTW: the burger was completely dry. Unfortunately, I've experienced better at Rheinlust.

It's more for young people enjoying the evening in the beer garden on the Rhine. The interior is worn, and the food was not only served in stages, but it could have been better. There were four of us, and everyone got their food after two minutes.

It's time to finally improve something here! It's a great location right on the Rhine at the Kennedy Bridge, on the sunny side of Bonn. But the young, inexperienced employees who are supposed to be waiting tables here have no idea. Regardless of whether you want to eat here with two, four or six people, the food always comes at random and never at the same time. Calculation is wrong. Response time too slow. What a shame actually!

I've never seen such a dirty restroom. Even after three hours, it wasn't cleaned.

Cash only. Do you really need to evade taxes and save 1% payment provider fees if you charge €5.80 for a mint tea and soon only pay 7% VAT? The ambience and food are great, but if I am sent to the savings bank and have to pay €5 processing fees just because the owner is too stingy for good service, that is unfortunately reason enough not to come back. Rheinlust is an institution in Beuel. But if you go here, you have to be capable of suffering... The food is average, the Kölsch somehow doesn't taste good, the service is tried hard, but extremely chaotic at times. Today we simply weren't served. We drew attention to ourselves several times, but were punished with disregard. After about 30 minutes we left and ate somewhere else. Poor coordination somehow has a tradition there. Rarely do everyone at the table get their food at the same time. Sometimes it works, but often you need a lot of patience. Also: There is a restaurateur here who, in 2025, expects his customers to drive to the bank to get cash before visiting his restaurant. They have steadfastly refused to offer card payments for years... The only plus point: probably the most beautiful beer garden in Bonn with a unique view of the Rhine. That seems to be enough to cover up an overall very poor gastronomic performance.

Heute war estwas Chaos. Da es anfing zu regnen sind sehr viele Leute von der Terrasse nach innen gewechselt. Dadurch passte dir Buchführung im elektronischen System nicht mehr, das bedeutete doch einiges an Wartezeit auf essen und Getränke. Daf Essen war aber so gut wie gewohnt.

You can have a drink by the Rhine here, but otherwise... nothing was really convincing in terms of cuisine. The crowning glory was the Alsatian-style tarte flambée on pizza dough with boiled ham. The service was a bit inattentive, even though there wasn't much going on. Too bad!

The location on the Rhine is worth a visit.

We were disappointed with our visit to Rheinlust. We had ordered a peppermint tea for just under 5 euros, which was brewed with only warm (but obviously not boiling) water and was brought carelessly (without honey or anything similar) in a large glass jug. After asking, we finally received a bottle of honey from the kitchen at the bar to sweeten the tea. When I politely explained to the waitress after paying that the tea wasn't that tasty, she told me with a smug smile that it was just peppermint leaves and hot water and she didn't know what was wrong with it. When I replied that that was how I felt, they only responded with an 'everything's fine', but no regrets were expressed. Overall, a disappointing visit and my first review on Google.de, as I was actually annoyed that as a customer I felt like I had to justify myself. Never again.

Very bad service, we had to wait a long time for our food. Even after asking again. Then both dishes came at different times. A concession was refused. The toilets were very dirty and the kitchen was also chaotic. I saw the chef putting the fries on a plate with his bare hands. I won't eat there anymore. The only positive, the staff is very friendly and the view is nice.

I've known Rheinlust for 30 years and haven't been there for a long time. The food was okay, nothing more. That was better. Unfortunately the guest room is very dusty. There are thick cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the cables from the lamps are thickly covered in dust. The horror was the toilet. I've never seen anything so dirty. The doors are totally broken down. The mirrors were completely dusty and dirty and everything needed to be wiped down anyway. It's a shame, but not again. The location is really great. Cash only - really sad!

Extensive and varied menu, large portions, delicious preparation. The service is okay, the waiting times for the food are generally absolutely fine. More than harmonious, harmonious price-performance ratio.

The food is mediocre, the service is skimped on - too few staff, therefore long waiting times. The only nice thing is the location, one star deducted because the toilets were quite disgusting several times and even some of the employees didn't wash their hands. Only cash payment has been possible for years... 😉 If you can live with the restrictions, you can have a good time here when the weather is nice. But the owner could definitely reinvest - the beer benches, for example, are already pretty splintery
