Restaurant Zum Wilden Esel in Flörsheim am Main

The food is unfortunately mediocre. The potato dumplings taste like a convenience store product. The sauce was very runny and lacked salt. The service was unfortunately uninspired and a bit cold. A bit disappointing.

We had a celebration with 45 people in a separate room of the restaurant in September 2025. Everything ran professionally; the buffet and drinks were discussed together in advance. We were pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the tables were set and how the entire room looked. The buffet was 100% as discussed beforehand and everyone enjoyed it. The drinks service, in particular, was excellent. The two waiters were very attentive and always immediately fulfilled every drink request. All of this made for a very successful celebration, which our guests also praised highly. We highly recommend the Wilder Esel for a dinner with 45 to 100 people. The food is excellent. Unfortunately, the service isn't always attentive. My coffee cup sat empty in front of me for ages.

The food was great, with a wide selection from burgers to schnitzel. The side salad is extra, but it's extra large. The salad plates were generally very large and fresh. Slightly lesser in terms of service; sometimes you have to order something twice or ask for something. A very nice area all around 👍🏼 Kids can climb and run around, Grandma can get everywhere with her walker, there's plenty for everyone to discover, a lovely meeting place.

The location promises more than the food and service can deliver. You can go, but you don't have to... There are no culinary highlights; there's almost always too much cream and cheaper substitutes (e.g., cheese). I found the waitress pushy and intrusive when she tried to sell me chanterelle mushrooms. If I'd wanted some, she would have been the first to know; the daily menu was large enough, and I could read it, too.

The price-performance ratio isn't right! A small, tasteless coffee, a small cappuccino, and three slices of bread on the side for €3.50! So no tip, and we'll consider going again based on the location alone...

Classic German food. Pleasant and good service. The restaurant's location, in the heart of the park, creates a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of free parking.

We wanted to have lunch there. Since the sun was shining, we asked if we could sit outside. The friendly waiter said yes, but only on the left. Unfortunately, there was shade there. No problem. So we went somewhere else to eat. Bad luck!

Everything was OK, but nothing special, except - a portion of mayonnaise in a sachet cost €0.60!!

The quality is generally good and the atmosphere is nice. However, you usually only get a seat inside with a reservation, and there are few shaded areas outside. The prices could be a bit lower, and the portions larger.

Even with a very large number of guests, the staff were superb and competent. It was a very pleasant stay.

Nice beer garden. The food came quickly and was sometimes plentiful. Prices are reasonable. Next door is a playground and an observation tower with a view of the Frankfurt skyline.

The location is quite nice, but the food is rather mediocre. If you're out and about in the gravel pits or fields, it's a good place to stop for a bite to eat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there. I tried: -Roast pork with dumplings -Cheese spaetzle -Burger

Unfortunately, the food is just as unimaginative as the menu! The chanterelle sauce is more like a cream sauce with the occasional chanterelle mushroom, the side salad is barely dressed or tasteless, and the panna cotta, while generous, tastes like bland cream. A complete culinary disaster. Even the lovely ambiance doesn't help, and the unfriendly service is the icing on the cake.

It was good at one point, but as is often the case, a dining experience depends on the service. There were four of us sitting on the terrace, which was practically empty. Since my bike lock wasn't long enough, I couldn't secure my valuable bike, so I parked it at the edge of the terrace, where there was no one else sitting. Nevertheless, I was asked, in a rather rude manner, to remove my bike. Despite an explanation, there was no understanding. We left. I will avoid the restaurant in the future and will no longer plan our regular Mustang meeting there.

We regularly eat at "Zum Wilden Esel." When the weather is good, you can sit outside in the regional park. When the weather is bad, the restaurant is cozy inside. The same staff has been there for years, which we find very pleasant. The food is very good.

The place and the food unfortunately mediocre to bad for the money

The Wilde Esel is idyllically located in the Weilbach gravel pits. Finding a parking space was easy. The restaurant is located in a functional building, and in my opinion, the decor has been optimized to the best of its ability. The large terrace is sure to be a popular spot in the summer. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is very concise, but our dishes are excellent in both quality and quantity. The value for money is also unparalleled in the area. We will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, it's all a same old story. Schnitzel from the deep fryer, and you get the same sauce with spaetzle or hunter's schnitzel.

Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the standard: the taste was rather mediocre, and many dishes needed a bit more seasoning. Overall, it was okay, but not a culinary highlight. If you value a beautiful setting and friendly service, this is a good place to go – but if you're coming primarily for the food, you might want to lower your expectations a bit.

Service was overwhelmed, the food was beautifully presented but poor quality and overpriced. Some of the meat was too dry, the pre-packaged fried onions had no flavor, and the atmosphere was bad.

The "Restaurant zum wilden Esel" is a lovely day-trip restaurant just outside Frankfurt near Flörsheim, idyllically situated at the foot of an observation tower overlooking a small pond. The location is easily accessible, right off the A66. The service was friendly, the food well-prepared and tasty. The prices are a bit high, but still reasonable. The atmosphere struck me as a bit cold and matter-of-fact – they could have improved this place with a bit more coziness or a more personal touch. Overall, a successful visit – the restaurant is definitely worth recommending for a relaxing day out with good food.

As has been read here several times, the food is rather average, the prices are quite high and the service left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the waiter was extremely unfriendly: he spoke in an inappropriate tone, made inappropriate comments and seemed to make other guests feel uncomfortable as well, which was clearly visible. The negative highlight was when I paid by card and he briskly asked me if I was satisfied with the service - apparently just to ask for the tip. When I didn't give one, he responded in an extremely unprofessional manner and even made inappropriate comments behind my back. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable to me

Anyone who can't manage to adjust their opening times on Google during a whole month of company holidays doesn't actually deserve a star. I'm just tired of walking/driving to restaurants and then standing in front of closed doors because you're too customer-unfocused to keep your data up-to-date. For me, this is simply part of customer satisfaction in this business.

On December 6th, 2024, we celebrated my father's 100th birthday with 35 people in the restaurant hall from 12 p.m. to around 7 p.m. The table and the hall were festively decorated. The service was extremely friendly. Champagne reception, food orders and food service were professional. All guests were very satisfied with the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the celebration in this hall. The cost of the celebration was reasonable. We would have a family celebration here again at any time. Many thanks to the team!

Super child-friendly, beautiful restaurant with excellent food! We were just horrified by the service staff assigned to us, who was unprofessional, accusatory, almost passive aggressive and finally became confrontational and when I pointed out that we felt uncomfortable with her manner, we even had an uninvited and unwanted conversation with her imposed by the manager of the restaurant. The boss herself was very friendly and apologized, but stated that there had never been any complaints about her. To be honest, I come from the catering industry and I wouldn't have complained proactively and being given the feeling at that moment that "that can't be right..." is honestly not helpful and not customer-oriented. In an emergency it might have been A schnapps on the house would have made it much more likely that we would go there again or I wouldn't have written a review simply to raise awareness. The bottom line is: €10 tip for the kitchen because the food was great and an unnecessarily bad overall result.

We were here spontaneously on Christmas Day, 1 hour before the kitchen closed. It was delicious, everyone was nice and there was hardly anything going on.

Nice restaurant, perfect as a stop on a bike tour. Approximately 30 meter high viewing point with glass floor (no elevator!) Food was great, service was very friendly, just a little shy at times, so there was a bit of a wait when ordering or paying.

Good place to eat while enjoying an afternoon in the park. Very good and delicious German food. Try the Mango tea and the schnitzel with pfifferlinge (mushroom) sauce. This schnitzel is not just another one of the bunch, this one stands out for how good it is. The staff is very friendly and the service is very fast.

I'll start with the service. Attentive and quick. I had baked potatoes with sour cream and that was very good. Above all, there was enough sauce My wife had a small schnitzel with fries and salad. Afterwards we went to the koi pond. And then we continued along the geology path towards Hattersheim where we visited the rosarium. All in all, a worthwhile destination.

Unfortunately not a single vegan dish and not even plant-based milk for the coffee. That's ok for a steak restaurant in the city center, as you don't have to go there as a vegan, but for a restaurant that specifically advertises itself as a location for family celebrations, meetings, etc., I don't think it's up-to-date. At family celebrations etc. there is always one or two people who want to eat sustainably and cruelty-free and are not supported here. Otherwise, the food was good quality and everything else was top notch.

The staff was nice and tried to make sure everything ran smoothly. Sometimes they were a bit overwhelmed and you had to wait a relatively long time. The quality of the food really could have been better, the prices are not justified for what you get. Unfortunately, we weren't feeling well the evening after our visit and were dealing with gastrointestinal problems. Since we all felt the same way, we're sure it had something to do with the food.

Went on a little bike ride today. After a photo session on the tower, my wife and I wanted to have a cool drink. Unfortunately nothing came of it! The restaurant only accepts EC cards from 15 euros and credit cards from 20 euros. An absolute no-go for me these days. Especially how the employee sold it to us. Stopped in for a quick break after a bike ride

We ate there on a Tuesday evening and we particularly noticed the older service colleague who served us in an extremely friendly manner. Unfortunately, you no longer experience such hospitality in many restaurants. We were all the more positively impressed. The Jägerschnitzel was very tasty and the portion was enough to fill you up. Clear recommendation!

You can sit there wonderfully with a beautiful view of the regional park. We've been there many times and enjoyed it, but the last few times the service and food weren't so good. In the past, people simply had more of an eye on the customer. The last few times we had to wait a long time for our order and also for the food. It wouldn't have bothered me so much but then the food was also spoiled. I got a new dish after I pointed it out, but what really made me uncomfortable was that it was just dismissed with an apology. I would have at least expected that they would have offered a drink on the house or something similar. For me it doesn't work at all because a guest should actually like to come back and you should try to make them happy. It's a shame, so unfortunately I can't leave a good review.

Even though we came in such large numbers, the employees were all very friendly and responded quickly to any questions. The food was brought to all tables at the same time, was warm and all requests were taken into account. The location is great! Suitable for parties & weddings. I always enjoy coming here. You sit very quietly and beautifully on the terrace in the countryside. It's not far from the parking lot. I have always received very friendly service and the food tastes good. You can also sit comfortably inside. I'd love to come back.

The outdoor furniture needs some TLC. Loose boards on chairs and the paint is peeling. Not nice. The lumberjack schnitzel. Sad, fried bacon, overcooked fried eggs and tasteless french fries. Honestly, every factory canteen does it better.

The restaurant is cozy and is beautifully located near the gravel pits. There is also the option to eat outside. There is a playground and beautiful hiking and cycling trails. The observation tower is also nearby and also the nature conservation house.

This is an amazing restaurant, offers German dishes and beverages (cold and warm, alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Depending on the season, it's possible to eat on the terrace. It is accessible by 2 different entrances. What I don't like that much is that the bathroom are a bit far away and to get there it is only possible by stairs. Prices are fair, the personal is always nice and they're give you a great impress

We had dinner there some time ago. Unfortunately, the service is very inattentive and absolutely needs improvement. After we sat at the table for 15 minutes (with a small child) and no one paid any attention to us, we took the cards ourselves and informed the service that we would like to order. We were also not offered a children's chair. The service seemed overwhelmed and not enthusiastic about new guests. Food was okay. The ambience is even nicer.

Nice location with a 22m tower and you can go for a nice walk. The restaurant served very sufficiently filled plates. We didn't eat anything ourselves but there were happy faces to be seen.
