I stumbled upon the Restaurant zum Alten Hafen today. The food was fantastic, I'd give it 10 stars if I could. The service was excellent. Highly recommended. I'll definitely be back.

We stayed here for one night to attend an event in Rathenow. Our room, named "Optik," was large, modernly furnished, and exceptionally clean. The bathroom was equally clean and had everything we needed. Upon arrival, we received a friendly and straightforward welcome; the registration forms were already filled out and only needed to be signed. The entire guesthouse and restaurant make a very well-maintained impression. The night was exceptionally quiet, thanks to the excellent waterfront location with no through traffic in front of the guesthouse. The lack of a star for service is not due to the staff's good work. The breakfast buffet was somewhat limited, and the scrambled eggs were a pre-made product. But perhaps that's nitpicking; the cost of ingredients is always determined by the price one is willing to pay. Our conclusion is therefore a strong recommendation to book here.

We had the pleasure of dining here this evening, coming from Fulda. The service was fantastic and very friendly, always with a smile on their faces. The food was amazing, both the appetizer and the main course – seasonal cuisine, everything was excellent. We'll be back, thank you for the wonderful meal!

Restaurant very nice and the duck was delicious

In today's digital age, it would be great if the website had a note stating that only buffet meals are available on Mondays. We just received this information while we were there. Unfortunately, our reason for choosing the restaurant was the à la carte dishes.

This is our third visit to this restaurant and we've been delighted every time. It's hard to find cuisine of such high quality anywhere in the region – everything here is just perfect. The dishes are not only delicious, but also prepared with great attention to detail. You can feel the passion and skill that goes into the cooking. We would also like to particularly highlight the service: professional, attentive, and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. You feel welcome and well looked after all around, without it ever seeming forced. It's precisely this combination that makes our stay a special experience every time. The small adjacent playground also helps us, as parents, enjoy our time here even more. While the children are busy, you can appreciate the good food in a relaxed atmosphere even more. It has become a regular stop for us when we're traveling in the region. The consistent quality, the cozy atmosphere, and the harmonious overall package make this restaurant an absolute recommendation. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

The food is great, but you have to take at least 2 courses to get full 😉

First time eating at the "Alten Hafen" restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy, the concept was compelling. Some of the dishes on the menu were surprising—in a good way, of course. Our main courses were also very tasty. I have to mention the super-tender liver; I haven't had anything like it in ages. The service was excellent, friendly, and attentive.

The restaurant offers a good selection for every taste (meat, fish, and vegetarian). The dishes are beautifully presented and delicious. Homemade cakes are available in the afternoon. The service is competent, friendly, and helpful. The guesthouse's rooms offer beautiful views (of the city and the harbor) and are comfortably furnished (a coffee maker and a kettle are available in the hallway). Breakfast offers a good selection.

Service and food were perfect again... but one question remains: why don't you have a star yet?

Hello, they say all beginnings are difficult. That was also the case at the Restaurant zum Alten Hafen in Rathenow. The service seemed a bit disinterested, but this dissipated over time after a few misunderstandings. Which, with good intentions, was fortunate for both parties. The food (we had duck, liver, salad, potato chips, etc.; there were five and a half of us) was absolutely exquisite. The wine list is very expensive but very well-selected. We can therefore highly recommend this beautifully located restaurant. We can't comment on the guesthouse.

We didn't use the guesthouse. We went to the restaurant. The location on the Havel River is truly fantastic. For starters, we had carpaccio, which was served frozen and sliced much too thick. Our warning was merely noted. The seasoned meat on my steak of four was very bland, and the Worcestershire sauce only came after we asked for it. My wife had the duck breast, which was very salty. What a shame 😩

A very nice and small guesthouse located right by the Old Harbor. Parking is available and free, which is great. The Old Town is a 2-minute walk away, and the center is a 5-minute walk away. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much, and see you soon.

We ate there on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere outside was great, and the food was delicious! Our highlight, however, was the service. We've rarely had such friendly and pleasant waitresses! Definitely recommended 👍🏻

We spontaneously enjoyed the delicious buffet. The very friendly and attentive staff made it taste twice as good. Excellent value for money. You can see and feel how much effort and hard work the owners put into it. One small criticism: the buffet is hardly suitable for vegetarians, and it's unsuitable for vegans.

Man sieht und spürt, wie viel Mühe und Arbeit sich die Betreiber geben. Kleiner Kritikpunkt: für Vegetarier kaum, für Veganer ist das Buffet ungeeignet.

We wanted to go out to eat on a weekday around 6 p.m. without a reservation. The beer garden on the Havel is also nice. Unfortunately, we didn't see any of the positive online reviews. 🤔We waited about 15 minutes, but couldn't even order a drink. The service was definitely not the fastest. Others had arrived before us and didn't even have a drink on their table. The food is obviously served from a mobile computer. That wasn't really our thing. It's a shame, but we can't recommend the restaurant. 🤷We just left and went somewhere else to eat.

We stayed at the guesthouse with friends for two nights and felt completely at home! The food was excellent – ​​prepared with love and very tasty. The location is simply stunning, right on the Havel River – perfect for relaxing or taking lovely excursions. The hosts were extremely friendly and attentive. We were here this evening... we ordered schnitzel with asparagus, a children's schnitzel, and a hamburger... Apart from the schnitzel, it was super delicious... The schnitzel was mustardy, greasy, and dry. When we told her, she still charged us. They could have done something about it. Very sad for a restaurant like this... But she probably thought we were vacationers and therefore a rip-off.

Right on the old city harbor, parking fee for boat €26 for the whole day, restaurant right next door, lunch was very tasty and service was great, breakfast buffet could be better but was still okay.

Very nice, well-thought-out ambiance. Located on the Havel River and away from traffic noise. It's also nice to sit outside, protected from the wind. The food and drinks are seasonal and beautifully presented. The portion sizes are also generous and generous. The vegetables are only cooked very well.

We celebrated my mom's birthday at "Zum alten Hafen." We ordered a small buffet served at our table. There were various appetizers on tiered stands, and for the main course, a selection of meat and fish. For dessert, we were surprised by a chocolate mousse with apricot dumplings. The food was fantastic, the beef fillet perfectly cooked. The service was very attentive and friendly. We were always well looked after and never left thirsty. As a little gimmick, they mixed a cocktail especially for us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire team again for the loving organization of the celebration. You are fantastic.

We were invited there for our birthday today. There was a menu with soup as a starter. The main course consisted of zander, pork fillet, chicken breast and beef fillet with mixed vegetables, baked potatoes, Schupfnudeln and potato croquettes. There were extra sauces for the fish and meat. The dessert also tasted very good.

Stopped in for coffee and cake and were greeted very friendly. In the guest room, a fire in the fireplace and the large aquarium created a very cozy atmosphere. We enjoyed it. The toilet was also super chic and clean. We'll be back.

Perfect. The room was absolutely well maintained. Check-in was easy. The slogan absolutely fits. There are sufficient parking spaces available. And there is also a charging station on site for all e-mobilists. And if you are vacationing in Rathenow with a small yacht, you can use the sanitary facilities here for a small fee. Only the restaurant at the end of the day is unfortunately closed several days a week due to a lack of staff. However, breakfast can be easily booked as a guest. Many kind regards from Gütersloh

Lovely lodge in the small town A 15 min walk from the station Right next to the water We stayed one night, and had a great time! He attic rooms with the lovely window is such a beautiful idea. The bathroom is a great size. Clean well equipped rooms. They have a decent breakfast selection. The menu though is slightly restrictive for vegetarians. We had a salad with goats cheese and rucola which had a dressing to die for! The juices are great almost like kombucha! The town is believed to have beautiful dark skies, and this property is a great place for stargazing. Though we were unlucky and came to town on a rainy day! And were unable to spot any stars in the night.

This time the food was very disappointing, which unfortunately resulted in poor price-quality ratio

As guests at the city pier we took the short route. We were welcomed immediately and shown a table. Staff are consistently friendly, fond of children, quick and attentive. I can't understand some of the negative reviews. The food came quickly, quality was good but a bit greasy here and there. We enjoyed it. Prices aren't cheap, but I thought it was okay for the overall package.

It was really nice, the service was extremely friendly and accommodating, our veggie burgers were also an absolute hit! We asked the boss three times if it was really vegetarian, as you couldn't tell any difference to meat. The boss then told us how long she had been looking for this quality, etc. The prices were completely reasonable, the food was absolutely great and the ambience is just lovely. We eat regularly in the Old Harbor Restaurant and are always very satisfied. In summer on the terrace with a heavenly view of the Havel and the lock at sunset. In winter, rustic by the fire with red wine. The zander and the saddle of lamb were a delight today. The visit is always rounded off with the unmistakable warm service. We recommend.

Schönes, sauberes, kleines empfehlenswertes Hotel mit sehr freundlichen und aufmerksamen Personal. Zum Restaurant kann ich nichts sagen da wir es nicht genutzt haben, aber das Frühstück war top.

Wir sind dort immer wieder zur Familien Feiern, ob Jugendweihe oder Geburtstage. Bisher waren wir mit allem Rundum zufrieden. Dieses Mal sind wir sehr enttäuscht! Die Zimmer Abwicklung hat bei uns gut geklappt, jedoch bei anderen Familien Mitglieder gab es bei dem Zimmerpreis Probleme. Weil sie nicht im Internet gebucht haben war es auf einmal teurer als es auf der Website gestanden ist. Man konnte dies nicht wirklich begründen. Wir haben für die Übernachtungsgäste Frühstück aufgebucht. In dem Informationsheft auf den Zimmern stand, das es Samstag, Sonn-und Feiertag bis 10.30 Uhr Frühstück gibt. Um 9.45 Uhr hieß es um 10.00 Uhr sei das beendet. In dieser Zeit kam schon eine andere große Gruppe in diesem Raum vom Frühstückbuffet und dort stellte man ein Brunch Buffet in die Mitte. Wir saßen in der Ecke in einem abgetrennten Raum und man zog die Schiebetür einfach zu. Man traute sich nicht einmal mehr die Toiletten zu nutzen. Auf mehrmaligen Nachfragen seitens der Organisatorin wegen der Auflistung der Kosten von der Feier, wollte man ihr keine geben und sie sollte den Betrag schon am selbigen Abend bezahlen. Man möchte doch wissen was alles an Getränken raus gegangen ist. Wir haben das Gefühl dass hier nur noch Massenabfertigung getätigt wird. Früher war das dort sehr familiär, aber jetzt bekommt man das Gefühl dass man dort nur noch abgezockt wird. Wenn Essen übrig ist muss man pro Dose 7,50€ zahlen. So etwas habe ich noch nirgends erlebt! Das war in der Vergangenheit nie so! Wobei ich trotzdem sagen muss, die Tisch Deko und auch das Essen waren schon sehr gut angerichtet und es schmeckte auch. Vielleicht kann man das mit den Preisen mal aktualisieren und einen Hinweis schreiben das die Online Reservierung günstiger ist. Auch die geänderten Frühstück Zeiten. Wenn man wissen möchte was alles getrunken und verbraucht wurde bei der Feier, dann bitte ohne Aufforderung ausdrucken. Der Gast ist doch König und kein Bittsteller oder Mensch zweiter Klasse!

Über die Qualität der Speisen kann ich nichts sagen, da wir nicht in den Genuss gekommen sind. Mit dem Boot angereist lagen wir am Stadtanleger einige Meter vom Restaurant entfernt. Da ein gehbehinderter Passagier es nicht die Treppe vom Steg nach oben schaffte, bat ich um "Hafenburger" zum Mitnehmen. Meine Anfrage wurde recht hochnäsig mit "Wir verkaufen grundsätzlich nicht außer Haus" abgelehnt. Merkwürdig bei einem Restaurant, das auch Catering-Service anbietet. Befremdlich fand ich auch das Schild im Garten, dass man auf Zuweisung eines Platzes warten soll, bei praktisch leerem Haus. Insgesamt also Zero Points für die mangelnde Kundenfreundlichkeit. 2 Sterne für die tolle Lage.
