Suriya Kanthi should be better named Surreal Canteen, because there is actually no food or lets say there are bleak micro waved echoes from Sri Lanka, is it that what the inhabitants of Prenzlauer Berg like ? not recommended

Food has never been better and is only similar to the fabulous Sri Lankan dishes we love! The owner has become even more rude, doesn't listen and is totally uninterested, which doesn't fit with Sri Lanka's culture. Update after the owner responded to my review: I expected this answer from you and it shows how right I was. A few meters further away we also saw someone complaining about their order and they had to take it back and with these people they also behaved like we did! I even doubt whether this is the same person you wrote down, but I definitely never ordered what you wrote and this clearly shows that I wasn't the only one who wasn't happy with you that day. Your answer also shows that you can't handle criticism, that you always want to be right or that you always try to show that people have no idea. As far as comparison goes, I can compare their cooking very well and can also tell very well when it is watery. And if you read the other reviews, you'll quickly realize that what I'm writing is no exception! If five occupied tables are too many for you, then you should reduce the number of tables. If you place tables outside, you should check outside every now and then to see if there are customers there. If someone tells you that something is wrong or doesn't taste good, you should check it instead of immediately disagreeing rudely. If someone writes you reviews, you should try to take them seriously instead of giving them criticism.

Dieses Restaurant ist vermutlich schon 25 Jahre alt und hat verschiedene Phasen hinter sich. Ende der 1990er Jahre war indisches Essen bzw. Essen aus Sri Lanka im Prenzlauer Berg noch sehr exotisch. Die Preise waren moderat, die S-Bahn-Sitzbänke aber sehr hart. Mittlerweile gibt es für die harten Bänke weiche Kissen. Das Interieur ist geschmackvoll, und man sitzt relativ ruhig, trotz der Hauptverkehrsstraße vor der Tür. Im vergangenen Herbst erlebte ich eine wundervolle Köchin, die zu unserer Begrüßung mal kurz aus der Küche schaute. Eine ältere Frau, die sehr würzige asiatische Gerichte zubereitete - und das mit Sorgfalt. Offenbar hat das Küchenpersonal jetzt aber gewechselt. Als wir im Mai 2024 zu viert im Suriya Kanthi waren und vier Gerichte bstellten, schmeckten diese alle ähnlich. Also keine Vielfalt! Außerdem ist es schwierig, mit dem Inhaber zu kommunizieren, der schwerhörig ist. Er vergisst Bestellungen und kommt auch nicht von sich aus an den Tisch, um die Gäste nach weiteren Getränkewünschen zu fragen. Schade. Ein Pluspunkt: die moderaten Preise. Der Chai schmeckt sehr gut, das Mango-Lassi auch. Ich hätte noch ein zweites bestellt, aber es war ja kein Kellner in Sicht.

Piña Colada doesn't taste like Piña Colada! Boss is very unfriendly and not accommodating. We didn't like the "Piña Colada" and the boss just said that he had been making it that way for 30 years and that it was vegan and made without cream. Furthermore, he would only use pineapple juice, coconut milk and white rum. But the menu says strawberry, mango, Baileys brown rum and CREAM. This has nothing to do with a piña colada. Absolutely not recommended!

Very particularly delicious food and unique: Kotte Roti is otherwise only available in Sri Lanka. Deliciously seasoned noodle-like dough dish, only better! With vegetables, vegan or vegetarian with eggs or, if you want, with chicken or lamb. Plus a deliciously cool Indian Kingfisher beer. My girlfriend then ate some mango chocolate ice cream. I was so full that I had to postpone eating ice cream until next time. I'll be back!

I was in Berlin as part of an educational trip about the BPA and I was thrilled. Great explanations from the boss about the food. The food is rich and delicious for everyone who is willing to try something new. I should be back in Berlin again at any time.

I came across this fantastic little restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg through a friend's recommendation. Normally I probably wouldn't have discovered Suriya Kanthi at all because my hotel is on Bülowstrasse and I would have been too far away to search in that area. I had a rice table with lamb there, which consisted of a lamb curry, a dahl curry with lentils and a dish with beetroot. Rice and papadum were served as a side dish. As a starter there was a tasty soup, which was also part of the drawing board, and I ordered fried fish balls as an additional starter. All of this tasted excellent, especially the combinations of the many different spices make these dishes so exciting. I also had a fruit lassie beforehand and a Sri Lanka coffee at the end. All of this cost a total of €32, which was very good value for the fantastic and, above all, diverse food. The atmosphere in the restaurant is simple but cozy, I felt very comfortable there and will definitely eat there again the next time I visit Berlin. I can only recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine.

After a very long time there again and it was very tasty again, even if the menu has changed a bit (I think). The service was very friendly and quick. The prices correspond to the current status and are reasonable.

The food is very tasty and excitingly seasoned. The prices are really moderate. Some of the portions are a bit manageable, so you can also order starters. The salad was also extra tasty. The owner is very nice and has a pleasant, dry sense of humor. Definitely recommended.

One of the most loving ceiling paintings I have had the pleasure of getting to know. Very loving facility. The chefs know their craft. It's soooo delicious. I was in Sri Lanka for over a year and love the food. Suriya Kanthie offers authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, which also incorporates Ayurvedic cuisine. Mr. Storz also has a wonderful Ayurveda center in Berlin (Surya Villa on Rykestrasse) and a Pancha Karma Resort in Sri Lanka (Bentota) Talk to him... You can find out and learn a lot from him. I like being here.

Sehr preiswertes, gutes und authentisches Sri Lanka Essen

Das Essen war schmackhaft aber etwas scharf ohne dass es hier ein Hinweis gab. Die Bedienung war nicht freundlich, hatte vielleicht einen schlechten Tag und machte einen überforderten Eindruck. Preis-Leistung war noch o.k. Fazit: neutral 😐

Einziges Kothe Roti in ganz Berlin! Unglaublich gutes Essen für die Seele. Kommen sehr gerne wieder und bedanken uns für den tollen Abend!:)

Sehr gutes und frisch zubereitetes Essen mit Originalküche aus Sri Lanka. Service und Ambiente sind auch sehr gut.

Waren das erste mal dort. Ich hatte etwas bestellt wo ich der Bedienung oder chef, keine Ahnung, sagte das ich es bitte OHNE Chili möchte da ich es nicht vertrage! Musste mir erstmal einen langen text anhören das die Gewürze dann nicht richtig rauskommen. Mein Partner hatte es so wie es angeboten wurde und schmeckte ausser curry und chilli keinerlei anderen Gewürze raus. Er verträgt schon ordentlich scharfes esen und ich halt nicht. Ich schmeckte leider nur curry sonst nix. Bestellte ein zweites getränk was dann irgendwo an die seite gestellte wurde, laut. Schade um die Lebensmittel und schade das dort der gast nix zu sagen hat wie das essen für einen selbst sein sollte. War auch über die verabschiedung sehr enttäuscht. Mein Partner wurde verabschiedet, ich nicht.. Gastfreundlich war dieses nicht.

Es war suuperfein, vielen Dank! Wir hatten einen grossen Fruchtsalat und eine Lammspeise.

I tried to use both English and German, but the response was still unexplained and hostile. I was there with my daughter. The meat in the stew was not fresh and was completely pureed, and when I asked, he said that the meat in Sri Lankan food should be mashed and pureed!! I had ordered rice and chicken curry. The bowl of stew was in a rice bowl and the rice was completely stuck to the bowl of stew and could not be removed. After paying the money, I mentioned the problems very calmly, but the treatment was equally rude, with Sri Lankan language and loud tone. This was the first time I didn't tip after eating at a restaurant. I don't recommend at all.

Zum ersten Mal hier, wir sind neugierig. Hört sich interessant an was die Karte bietet. Der Service war offenbar unterbesetzt und deshalb drinnen zu finden. Zum Bestellen und bezahlen mussten wir ins Restaurant. Das Gericht war leider nur mäßig gewürzt. Pickles und Linsenbrot dazu optimierten das ganze. Leider kein Erlebnis.. Vielleicht haben ja andere einen besseren Tag

Das Restaurant habe ich mit meiner Familie das 2. mal besucht. Wir hatten absolut leckeres Essen. Wir waren wieder total überrascht von den Gewürzen die sich so gut auf unserem Gaumen anfühlten, das wir auf jeden Fall wieder kommen! Vielen Dank an den Koch und den Chef der uns bediente!!!

So far the best Sri Lankan food I've had in Berlin. Lamb and the chicken koththu was amazing. They asked the spice level that we prefer and made the perfect koththu according to our taste profile. It wasn't crowded and the place was cozy.

Ein schönes Restaurant mit sehr schmackhaftem Essen. Das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist super, das Essen ist nicht zu teuer und alles was wir verzehrt haben war toll zubereitet und sehr lecker. Das Personal ist freundlich, aufmerksam und hilfsbereit. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Tolles Restaurant. Der Inhaber hat sehr eindrucksvoll in die srilankesische Küche eingeführt. Es gab ein Buffet. Super lecker. Wir sind gut satt geworden. Es gab gute selbstgemachte Limonade. Nette Bedienung, Sehr zu empfehlen.

Uns wurde die Küche aus Sri Lanka erklärt und Gewürze vorgestellt. Die Einladung mit den Händen zu essen wurde gerne angenommen. Sehr schöne Innengestaltung. Authentisch und lecker.

Absolutely delicious! Usually the south Asian food here in Berlin lacks heat (or even strong flavours) as Germans tend not to like it too much, but here they added it at our request and it was great. We asked for a bit of spiciness and got beautiful, flavours, a lovely bit of heat, and decent portions. Very happy to find a gem in our neighbourhood. Will definitely go back soon! Some of the best south Asian food I’ve had in berlin!

Waren mit 50 Mann mit einer Bundestagsfahrt zum Abendessen. Nur Inhaber und eine Person für die Gäste da. Es wurde ein Mini-Buffet aufgebaut - teilweise zu scharf - keine richtige Auswahl.

Wir haben hier heute mit einer großen Gruppe gegessen. Es gab ein großes Buffet. Für jeden war etwas dabei. Sehr lecker. Mein absoluter Tipp: Papadam.

Super sympathischer Inhaber. Der Mann steht mit Herzblut hinter seiner Küche und hinter seinem Restaurant. Man hat das Gefühl in Sri-Lanka/ Indien zu sitzen und originales Essen von dort zu verkosten. Der Empfang hätte nicht besser sein können, der Inhaber hat uns über die Sri-lankische aufgeklärt und auch über den Hintergrund und die Geschichte… Ich bin jetzt eigentlich gar kein Fan von ausländischer Küche, aber das hat mich umgehauen. Ich habe in meinem Leben noch nie so leckeren Reis mit Gemüse, Gewürzen, Fleisch und allem was dazugehört gegessen.
