I honestly don't understand why this restaurant has such high ratings. We had to wait over an hour for our food, which was completely unreasonable. It was also extremely loud, making it almost impossible to have a conversation. The food itself was, unfortunately, just average—neither in taste nor in presentation. Overall, the visit was disappointing. I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Very nice and quiet for outdoor seating. The fish platter was excellent. Service was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was very pleasant, especially on the beautiful terrace. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The meze plate is very nice. It is a Greek restaurant with a very good price-performance ratio with its meat and the sauces it adds to the meat. You will definitely like it. A 4.5/5 place, I am saying it for Ouzo lovers, the Ouzo is too aniseed, it resembles raki. Other than that, everything was very good. We came back 2 weeks later. We tried the cold meze, seafood meze and dessert plate meze. It was very nice. I wish the waiter was more cheerful. Other than that, it is a great place.

Great restaurant food was good, but twice a wrong order. A large beer instead of a small beer and olives instead of pepperoni. But then a large beer on the bill I think is not right. What was said the bill changed but when I wanted to give a tip nothing was accepted because of indignation. Strange.

Gyros with fries, just as you'd imagine, crispy and really good. You could have forgotten the side salad; it consisted of green salad, meaning no cabbage, carrots, or anything else. It came with a ready-made sauce.

1 restaurante tipico grego, comida simples mas saborosa, todos os pratos que vieram para a mesa estavam saborosos em especial o misto de peixes e a perna de borrego. Acompanhado pela bela e tipica cerveja da alemanha. O staff é simpatico e profissional. Muito boa opçao na cidade para quem procura algo diferente.

Me and my friends just arrived in Karlsruhe and decided to try this restaurant without any expectations. Turns out it was the best decision that we could’ve made, the people there were so nice, all of them spoke english with us and were very thoughtful and friendly. The food was amazing also, the best food the we’ve eaten so far in town, the desert was also incredible. We’ll be back for sure, would recommend to everyone 10/10

Starter wasn't that tasty. Main course was ok. The gyros were very tasty, the rest of the meat was rather average. The rice was extremely salty and therefore hardly edible. Portion rather steep for the price. Staff very friendly.

We felt very comfortable here with a large group of 18 people in total. We got a table here at short notice on Saturday evening. We got the food quickly and everyone enjoyed it.

I have been a guest for many years. Food is excellent - ambience: modern and cozy. The service is always warm and friendly! Also very suitable for larger groups!

We were at this restaurant on New Year's Eve and were looking forward to delicious Greek food. Unfortunately it was inedible and totally over salted. Neither of us are that sensitive, but this was just too much. The reaction wasn't particularly professional either. "I'll pass it on to the kitchen", that's it. We would have liked a different reaction. Probably our last visit to Socrates. There are other good Greeks in Karlsruhe.

The best Greek in Karlsruhe! He just feels welcome and has a great meal too! No matter what you order, quality comes! A special compliment to Argi for his service is 11/10 stars. A waiter who recognizes his guests.

Some reviews suggested they recently got a new owner. The food was well cooked, but sadly it missed the herbs and taste which really make it feel like Greek food. The interior was nice, but definitely not a traditional Greek restaurant.

I found the food and service both good. A little more Greek flair would be nice for the “ultimate experience”. :-)

We quickly decided to have a Greek dinner. Here we found nice and attentive service, very good food in a pleasant atmosphere. We also liked the dark beer on tap.

Best Greek I know. Great liver and great gyros. Staff always friendly. Reservation recommended on weekends. However, the parking situation is a bit difficult. But with a little searching it should still work.

Personal freundlich und präsent. Preis/Leistung stimmt nicht….Salatsoße Fertigprodukt, Wein zu teuer, Qualität nicht zufriedenstellend,…. Wir werden nicht mehr hingehen.

One of the few Greek restaurants where it's not the size of the portions but the quality that's important! Such authentic dishes are rarely so fine outside of Greece, and the mixed starters are particularly recommended.

Very good service. Came without a reservation and an adequate table was arranged straight away. Food good. Ambience not typically Greek, more modern. 1 star less it was very loud so you couldn't understand your own words. We'll definitely be back. Keep it up......

There is now a new tenant on the Socrates. I don't know exactly when that came along. But it is not Greek, but apparently a Czech. He serves himself, is a nice guy and has good sayings. At the next table someone had ordered a grilled plate, he came with the tray and announced that something was coming for the vegetarians. I couldn't see it from the distance, I'm guessing it was a plate full of lamb. The food still tastes good, gyros spicy and juicy, bifteki too. But: Seasoned with parsley instead of thyme. It then no longer tastes the way you expect it to. The portion of fries is a disgrace (see photo), tzatziki was like it had been slapped into a bowl from an ice cream scoop and didn't taste like it had been freshly made. In addition to the ubiquitous Hoepfner, Krušovice is served - a Czech pivo, deep black but hardly bitter, nor sweet. Simply round and catchy with the typical malty black beer note. A real plus! When I'm Greek, I usually like to drink Samos - and lots of it. But at 4.20 euros for 0.1 liters, I'll be broke before I even get one in the crown. I had to refrain from doing that. The innkeeper didn't even know where to find Samos on the map. Overall, I ate okay, but I actually expect more and better from Greek. So overall the verdict: Socrates in the future without me.

Sehr freundlicher Empfang, prompte Bedienung, Vor- und Hauptspeise nicht zu groß und sehr sehr lecker 😋. Preise sehr human und Speisekarte erschlägt dich nicht. Drinnen sehr gemütlich mit geräumigen Nischen und offener Bar. Komme sehr gerne wieder.

This is hands down one of the best Greek restaurants and probably just restaurants in Karlsruhe. The service is friendly, funny (in a very good way) and warm. The food is delicious and depending on the plate, almost elegant. If you have kids, this place is perfect for them. The staff don't seem bothered by little humans running around and tend to interact with them. It is a bit more expensive than your average restaurant in the city but it is a well worth premium to pay. I have been going for years and plan to keep going for many more.

We were there during the week without a reservation. Almost didn't get a place. If there are more than two people, be sure to make a reservation. Service exceptionally good, attentive, unobtrusive. Food tasty, portions not too big. Choice is plentiful. Atmosphere neat, not to everyone's taste, toilets clean. Dogs welcome, immediately given a bowl of water, later a seat cushion for the floor. 😊

HORRIBLE service. Waiters were rude, they were throwing the cup holders on the table when they brought our drinks. We were ordering and he left before we could finish, this happened several times. They make a mistake in our order and they blamed us! I don’t recommend going to this place. Food was not bad, but with that service, there’s no way you can enjoy it.

Very small farmer's salad for €10.50 and cheese with mushrooms for €8.50 was also very small. Service very good. Conclusion: overrated Greek. For me the price-performance ratio isn't right at all. And in a student town there should be vegetarian main dishes. They exist in Greece.

The food was delicious, with hearty dishes and an extensive choice of drinks to accompany it. The treatment was very friendly and the service, who spoke perfect English, was very efficient at all times. The atmosphere is pleasant, it is very well decorated and comfortable. The only complicated point is that they do not accept payment by maestro card from other countries (only Mastercard or Visa). I recommend it and I will surely repeat when I return to Karlsruhe.

Friendly service and excellent authentic Greek food

I entered the restaurant 20 minutes before opening because I didn’t know the restaurant’s exact opening hours. I was greeted by a very disgruntled waiter or manager and asked which door I entered through. He expressed his dissatisfaction and was rude to me, so I lost the desire to eat in this restaurant. I went to another Greek restaurant 4 minutes away where I was welcome. So I definitely do not recommend Socrates restaurant unless you want to be humiliated!

Delicious gyros in an attractive outdoor area. Good, cheap and long opening hours. Kitchen open until 10 p.m. Unfortunately rare in the post-corona era.
