Super friendly staff, despite the full house we got two seats at the counter 👍🏻are the best seats anyway. You've enjoyed your holiday, even if we would have liked to come back for dinner. Would give 10 stars ⭐️ and more. Other words and their staff can learn something from you

I really enjoy the cozy homey atmosphere, filled with local people's talking and laughing. The food is delicious and served in big enough portion. Very fun and friendly stuff.

The food and atmosphere were actually quite good and maybe I'm too spoiled as a Palatine native, but I think the landlady could have shown a bit more warmth and joy. It's great when new guests visit the restaurant. Especially if they bring joy and warmth with them. It's a shame, but thanks anyway! :)

After two years we visited the restaurant again on October 19th, 2024. The food and service was very good and we wish the friendly team continued success.

Nice restaurant with great dishes and friendly service. My recommendation is the half-Allgäu roast onion roast with red wine sauce. Because it is in high demand, you definitely have to make a reservation.

But everything really worked out... 😍 I'll start with dinner... Do you know this feeling? You bite into it... an explosion of flavor... and the first thing you think "I hope this never ends... it's soooo good ❤️" . The food is pure enjoyment (delicious), friendly staff (from start to finish) and a pleasantly cozy atmosphere (warm-hearted). It was my first time there... and it won't be the last time. Try it... can only recommend it.

Very good food, recommended. I would especially like to praise the staff. We arrived on a Saturday evening without a reservation. Everything was occupied, but two places were still conjured up. I realize that this doesn't always work. I just want to emphasize that such flexibility has become rare. We'll be happy to do it again next time we stop in Kempten.

We were very surprised by the great quality of the food. The selection was also very good and there was something for everyone. We felt completely comfortable and would come again and again. And the prices are completely reasonable and not overpriced. In addition, a table was made ready for us even though the restaurant was completely full. Ein gut bürgerliches Lokal mit einer hervorragenden Küche, einem traumhaft freundlichen, umsichtigen Personal und einen tollen Chef. Die Essensauswahl lässt keine Wünsche offen. Qualität sehr hochwertig. Die Wünsche werden von den Augen abgelesen. Bei einer Reise nach Kempten, geht unser Weg sofort wieder in dieses Lokal. Lage in der Altstadt, gut erreichbar und zu finden. Als Kemptner wäre der Schalander unser Stammlokal!

The very cheerful and yet very professional behavior of the service staff makes you immediately feel welcome in the restaurant. My main course (Kemptener Schnitzel) was very tasty.

This lunchtime we were in the very cute restaurant, which looks rather inconspicuous from the outside, but shines even more from the inside because it is very tastefully decorated. Despite the rainy weather, the wait staff managed to take the guests along with their lively manner and spread a good mood. The food (crusted roast with dumplings and spinach dumplings with cheese sauce) tasted very good. Here too, a reservation would be advisable as the restaurant is very busy. We'd love to come back when we're in the area.

So, basically in advance: you should make a reservation! In the evening anyway - at lunchtime it's sometimes possible without... We've been coming here at regular intervals for years - and the fact that it's always packed here is due to the quality and preparation of the dishes, the cozy atmosphere and the consistently friendly service. Everything was super attentive and quick - the food came to the table piping hot. Alpine cuisine at its best! Bravo 👏👏👏

I had a Kempten schnitzel with fried potatoes for dinner here. It was quite nice to sit outside on the stairs or monastery steps. Unfortunately I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the food. For a price of almost €20, I find two small breaded (not crispy) pork schnitzels with a mini portion of fried potatoes a bit small. I would have preferred a large piece of schnitzel, ideally fried crispy in the pan. There was also a small slice of tomato and two small slices of lemon as a garnish, as well as a leaf of parsley. No side salad, you have to order it separately. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes were not at all crispy either, rather mushy and soft, as another reviewer had already written here. When I mentioned it to the really nice waitress while clearing away, they told me understandingly that the fried potatoes here are usually not crispy. For a large beer I paid around €25, which is overpriced for the quality and portion. If the fried potatoes and schnitzel were crispy, and a small side salad was included as usual in other restaurants (or at least a decent portion of fried potatoes were served), I would give it 4 stars. I almost suspect that the food was just warmed up. However, there was nothing wrong with the taste. The friendly service and the beautiful ambience prevent me from giving it a two star rating. It's actually a shame, the Brez'n mountain cheese breading is actually a clever idea with potential. But I think I'll dine somewhere else next time. In order to forestall a possible response from the restaurant owner: I was not offered any compensation for my personal complaint directly on site or anything similar when I cleared my plate. Instead, I was asked if I would like to order anything else (not on the house, though). By the way, I finished the plate because I was hungry and the portion was very small anyway. And your waitress made it clear that you shouldn't expect crispy fried potatoes in your restaurant. I've enjoyed better quality in most breweries so far, and they themselves claim to be of better quality, even if not at gourmet level. I recommend checking this internally and talking to the chef about it before you express your disappointment again about anonymous reviews, which, by the way, they often do here with the same wording. It's easier to answer with copy paste ;-) A little tip: You often point out in your answers that your service staff ask twice whether everything is OK and that they would rather serve too little than too much so as not to serve any food (I don't buy that, by the way, I think they're just stingy with the side dishes here). Why don't your service staff point this out directly when serving or ask explicitly whether the portion is large enough or whether you would like to get a free refill? Why should the guest have to escalate this first? I was recently eating at a restaurant where a waitress told me as soon as I was served that I could get more bread with my salad for free if the two slices served weren't enough. So I praise myself for that.

Very clean, very nicely decorated restaurant! Centrally located and the staff, very attentive and friendly. The prices are very fair! The food is outstanding and the selection offers something for everyone! If you like authentic food, you're in good hands there.

We were at Schalander for the first time two weeks ago. Great food in a nice atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly and funny service, whose friendliness didn't seem artificial or artificial at all.

In addition to the very friendly and competent service, you can also enjoy wonderfully good food at Schalander. There is a wide range of different German dishes and also some vegan and vegetarian options that go beyond the classic salad. This in combination with the rustic ambience offers the best conditions for a successful evening.

Always happy. Reserved a table by phone (be sure to reserve in advance), received a friendly welcome and was well pampered. As always, I go to Schalander on my trips to Kempten. As always, my favorite is the Swabian salad. Tastes delicious and fills you up. The facility has an absolute feel-good feeling and the staff is priceless. Absolutely recommended. Please note there is a kitchen break.

Food great! We are happy to accommodate special requests. Service is also good, but if the friendliness is only feigned in order to get a tip, it's not really genuine. When we paid by card without mentioning the tip, the waitress, who had been very nice until then, suddenly became visibly upset and the farewell was correspondingly frosty. Of course, we still left about 8% in cash on the table. 😜 Highly recommended locally.

We sat outside on the platform on the outside staircase and had a great view of the pedestrian zone. It's super cozy, the staff is really friendly and fun and the food is to die for. We had crusty roast and three kinds of pasta variations. Both an absolute pleasure. We would definitely order both again. On weekends you should definitely reserve a table in advance.

A real insider tip in Kempten. Such delicious food, the service was in a great mood even at a late hour. I had chosen the crusty roast, but in the high summer temperatures I didn't feel like dumplings and asked quietly whether I would be tarred and feathered if I had fries with it. The waitress then thought it was funny to loudly shout: One roast with fries 🍟 I didn't have to leave the city and it was a really tasty meal

On the occasion of our birthday and wedding anniversary on Friday lunchtime we finally sat at the nice location right at the bar. As always, it was beautifully decorated and congratulations were received from all sides. After the daily aperitif, we decided on venison schnitzel with spaetzle and asparagus with hollandaise sauce, potatoes and trout fillet (plus a really great organic red wine Blaufränkisch and Heitlinger White Bio). Our lunch menu was rounded off with a wheat beer tiramisu with espresso. If you want to have a really good meal in Kempten, then I recommend the Schalander restaurant! See for yourself that the guest is absolute king here!

So happy I found this typical Bavarian restaurant . The Schalanderpfannle is one of the best dishes there, served by very friendly waitresses.

It was really comfortable to sit in, a great decoration. The service was very nice, the food, meatloaf with cheese dumplings and mushroom sauce was great. The beer too, of course. My wife also really liked the salad with turkey or chicken, mmmh. Not suitable for wheelchair users as there are steps and the toilet on the first floor. For me 5 stars.

After a lovely hike, we ended the day here and can give an absolute recommendation for fans of Bavarian-Swabian cuisine. Food: The waiter's recommendation was, without exaggeration, the best beef liver I have ever eaten. The meat quality and preparation were perfect. Same with the fried potatoes. But the other dishes at the table, Allgäuer Teufle and salads, were also really tasty. The menu emphasizes the regional origins of the suppliers. And unfortunately not a given these days: without glutamate and convenience. The Meckatzer beer specialties go very well with this. Service: very friendly, calm and attentive. You just feel comfortable Ambience: We only got to know the outside area. Beautiful places on the steps of the outside staircase in the middle of the old town

In the evenings, working in Kempten, I followed the many good recommendations of my previous eaters and evaluators. This restaurant sets a very good example and proves how gastronomy and friendliness go hand in hand. Quality and delicious food paired with excellent service. Keep it up, please!
