Ein tolles Restaurant. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Haben uns Wohlgefühl.

Reserving a table was a bit difficult because the restaurant was very busy. We had reserved a table inside, but decided to take a free table outside at short notice. The friendly and competent staff made it no problem at all. The food was brought to our tables quickly and at the same time. Everything was very tasty and flavorful (some people might find it a bit too much, especially the soup). Everyone enjoyed it. The portions were generous.

This was our third time there. The highlight this time wasn't the food, which was also good, but the service, whose positive, infectious attitude brightened our day.

We visited the restaurant based on many positive reviews and didn't have a reservation. We received a very friendly welcome and were given the opportunity to get a table for 1.5 hours, as we had a later reservation. Not every restaurant does that. The service was extremely enthusiastic and friendly, and we were never rushed due to time constraints. The food was excellent. Rustic Bavarian, just as we wanted it. The beer was delicious. The ambiance was very nice and lovingly designed.

I only had three dark wheat beers today. I'm still giving it a positive review because the waitress, Denise, was very attentive and extremely friendly. I'd be happy to return.

Anyone who doesn't give this restaurant 11 out of 10 is out of this world. We were thrilled and would come back to Kempten just for Restaurant Schalander. Thank you for the great food and friendly service.😁

A beautiful restaurant with attractive decor and a comfortable atmosphere. The menu offers a reasonable selection and provides very transparent information about the producers/suppliers of each food. The food was exceptionally good and the service was consistently friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

Price/performance is slightly high - although the food looks and tastes good and the ingredients are fresh/market. Location is also good... relatively central. (We were only missing the umbrellas outside, not because of the sun but because of the undefined flying objects ;)

UPDATE 04.2025: 2 days in Kempten on business... Here again this evening... It's impressive the spirit that the service ladies display... Excellent cuisine can sometimes be found elsewhere... What makes it a 6 star experience is the service!!! So, basically in advance: you should make a reservation! In the evening anyway - at lunchtime it's sometimes possible without... We've been coming here at regular intervals for years - and the fact that it's always packed here is due to the quality and preparation of the dishes, the cozy atmosphere and the consistently friendly service. Everything was super attentive and quick - the food came to the table piping hot. Alpine cuisine at its best! Bravo 👏👏👏

A very nice restaurant with very good, regional cuisine. The staff is extremely friendly and after a very short time we even had personal conversations. The food came relatively quickly, but we only ate dinner. We accessed the restaurant via the outside staircase next to it. I don't know if there is another way to access it. The restaurant is definitely recommended.

Finally had some really good Kässpatzen! That's exactly how they have to be. Lots of flavor, four types of cheese. And very good leaf salad with it. Really cooked with love! Also eaten the Allgäu pasta plate: with Kässpatzen, Krautkrapfen and Maultaschen. Very good and something from everyone... We are happy.

We were here for the first time and received a very warm welcome. You feel comfortable here and the service was attentive and always had a kind word for all the guests. My salad was very tasty and the portion size was just right. Many different types of salad, combined with fresh, delicious sprouts, really recommended. My husband's schnitzel was also totally ok as a portion, but the fried potatoes were a bit too greasy for me personally. However, that is just my personal feeling. Otherwise, we'd love to come back.

Food too expensive and not recommended, spaetzle in particular…

We were visiting Kempten and while strolling through the city we looked for a restaurant where we could spontaneously eat something. We went in and saw that all the tables were already reserved, but since we were very early in the evening we were able to defiantly sit at a table. The inn is very comfortably furnished and you just feel completely at home. The food was simply delicious… very tender meat and well-seasoned side dishes… Top Top Top. Yes, and the crowning glory was the staff, our waitress was a mega bundle of energy, she exuded so much good mood, it's really very rare to see someone have so much fun at work and radiate it like that these days... please always stay that way and Thank you very much for the extraordinary hospitality, when we are back in Kempten we will already know where to eat 🤩

I haven't seen such great employees in a long time, but not just one, but all of them. So in a good mood and so attentive… The food is a highlight. Mega tasty and very well put together. Taste wise 10/10. Always my pleasure. I enjoyed “Fitness Steak”.

We were warmly welcomed by the waitress. When ordering the food, we had to experience that the conditions can become very resolute, assertive and unfriendly if you only order a starter and a main course for two people. It is then explained to you in a very harsh and unfriendly manner that it is not possible to just order a starter without also having a main course. For me, who explained to the waiter that I had an operated stomach and could only eat a soup or an appetizer based on the quantity, it was an absolute no-go. Yes, she became sooo... unfriendly that we didn't know whether we had to get up and leave again or whether we had to order two main courses, which we then had to do. Yes, with the result that she went one better with the statement “the starter is so little that you can manage the main course”. Of course I know better, after all, I have a small stomach and know very well what I can and cannot do. Yes, in this case my husband had to eat 1½ main courses while being slightly hungry, which is actually not the point. Since we didn't want to carry the leftovers around with us, but also didn't want to be happy with high-quality food (as advertised by Schalander) we would just leave it there and let it spoil. Yes, the food was excellent, but this lack of understanding about only getting two main courses instead of JUST a starter and a main course made us not recommend this place, let alone visit it again, due to the lack of loyalty to a person with a handicap. I would like to end with the fact that we have never been subjected to something like this before, including the unfriendly nature and lack of understanding towards a person who is not allowed to eat just an appetizer. Yes, in this case, I couldn't even order a drink because, as already mentioned, my stomach has a limited capacity.

Even if some guests have something to complain about, which is completely incomprehensible to me!! Food super delicious in an even better atmosphere. There were two of us there and we really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Clear recommendation!!

We were there with our seven month old daughter. I have rarely met such incredibly child-friendly staff. A changing table with everything you need is also available on site. The staff should receive 1000 stars! The food is a poem! Thanks for the great visit 😊

Very tasty authentic Swabian cuisine. I can highly recommend the Schalanderpfännle with a Meckatzer Zwickel. Great, very nice service. I enjoyed eating here.

The food and atmosphere were actually quite good and maybe I'm too spoiled as a Palatine native, but I think the landlady could have shown a bit more warmth and joy. It's great when new guests visit the restaurant. Especially if they bring joy and warmth with them. It's a shame, but thanks anyway! :)

After two years we visited the restaurant again on October 19th, 2024. The food and service was very good and we wish the friendly team continued success.

Nice restaurant with great dishes and friendly service. My recommendation is the half-Allgäu roast onion roast with red wine sauce. Because it is in high demand, you definitely have to make a reservation.

But everything really worked out... 😍 I'll start with dinner... Do you know this feeling? You bite into it... an explosion of flavor... and the first thing you think "I hope this never ends... it's soooo good ❤️" . The food is pure enjoyment (delicious), friendly staff (from start to finish) and a pleasantly cozy atmosphere (warm-hearted). It was my first time there... and it won't be the last time. Try it... can only recommend it.

Very good food, recommended. I would especially like to praise the staff. We arrived on a Saturday evening without a reservation. Everything was occupied, but two places were still conjured up. I realize that this doesn't always work. I just want to emphasize that such flexibility has become rare. We'll be happy to do it again next time we stop in Kempten.

We were very surprised by the great quality of the food. The selection was also very good and there was something for everyone. We felt completely comfortable and would come again and again. And the prices are completely reasonable and not overpriced. In addition, a table was made ready for us even though the restaurant was completely full. Ein gut bürgerliches Lokal mit einer hervorragenden Küche, einem traumhaft freundlichen, umsichtigen Personal und einen tollen Chef. Die Essensauswahl lässt keine Wünsche offen. Qualität sehr hochwertig. Die Wünsche werden von den Augen abgelesen. Bei einer Reise nach Kempten, geht unser Weg sofort wieder in dieses Lokal. Lage in der Altstadt, gut erreichbar und zu finden. Als Kemptner wäre der Schalander unser Stammlokal!

This lunchtime we were in the very cute restaurant, which looks rather inconspicuous from the outside, but shines even more from the inside because it is very tastefully decorated. Despite the rainy weather, the wait staff managed to take the guests along with their lively manner and spread a good mood. The food (crusted roast with dumplings and spinach dumplings with cheese sauce) tasted very good. Here too, a reservation would be advisable as the restaurant is very busy. We'd love to come back when we're in the area.

I had a Kempten schnitzel with fried potatoes for dinner here. It was quite nice to sit outside on the stairs or monastery steps. Unfortunately I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the food. For a price of almost €20, I find two small breaded (not crispy) pork schnitzels with a mini portion of fried potatoes a bit small. I would have preferred a large piece of schnitzel, ideally fried crispy in the pan. There was also a small slice of tomato and two small slices of lemon as a garnish, as well as a leaf of parsley. No side salad, you have to order it separately. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes were not at all crispy either, rather mushy and soft, as another reviewer had already written here. When I mentioned it to the really nice waitress while clearing away, they told me understandingly that the fried potatoes here are usually not crispy. For a large beer I paid around €25, which is overpriced for the quality and portion. If the fried potatoes and schnitzel were crispy, and a small side salad was included as usual in other restaurants (or at least a decent portion of fried potatoes were served), I would give it 4 stars. I almost suspect that the food was just warmed up. However, there was nothing wrong with the taste. The friendly service and the beautiful ambience prevent me from giving it a two star rating. It's actually a shame, the Brez'n mountain cheese breading is actually a clever idea with potential. But I think I'll dine somewhere else next time. In order to forestall a possible response from the restaurant owner: I was not offered any compensation for my personal complaint directly on site or anything similar when I cleared my plate. Instead, I was asked if I would like to order anything else (not on the house, though). By the way, I finished the plate because I was hungry and the portion was very small anyway. And your waitress made it clear that you shouldn't expect crispy fried potatoes in your restaurant. I've enjoyed better quality in most breweries so far, and they themselves claim to be of better quality, even if not at gourmet level. I recommend checking this internally and talking to the chef about it before you express your disappointment again about anonymous reviews, which, by the way, they often do here with the same wording. It's easier to answer with copy paste ;-) A little tip: You often point out in your answers that your service staff ask twice whether everything is OK and that they would rather serve too little than too much so as not to serve any food (I don't buy that, by the way, I think they're just stingy with the side dishes here). Why don't your service staff point this out directly when serving or ask explicitly whether the portion is large enough or whether you would like to get a free refill? Why should the guest have to escalate this first? I was recently eating at a restaurant where a waitress told me as soon as I was served that I could get more bread with my salad for free if the two slices served weren't enough. So I praise myself for that.

We were at Schalander for the first time two weeks ago. Great food in a nice atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly and funny service, whose friendliness didn't seem artificial or artificial at all.
