What a great insider tip for the perfect goose dinner! A whole goose for four people as a set menu was a truly delightful experience. The service was very friendly on the phone and quick, attentive, and pleasant on-site. Be sure to order some menus two days in advance. Reservations are highly recommended. A table overlooking the riding arena is a real treat.

The best goose in and around Hamburg 😍 Top quality, not overpriced (under €200) and I was even able to enjoy it a few days before November 11th, 2025. Thank you.

Unfortunately, a new head chef has taken over since the change of ownership. For 20 years, I regularly hosted business lunches with clients at the previous owner's restaurant, especially during goose season. Despite repeatedly pointing out the significantly declining quality, his self-confidence remains unbroken, and even the staff is frustrated because there's absolutely no acceptance of criticism in the kitchen. I now have to take my groups elsewhere. It's a shame for his wife and the staff, who are working incredibly hard to compensate for his shortcomings. Addendum: They still had my number in their system and called to explain the audacity of my review. They claimed that I had brought some sweets to our table last year to thank them for my frequent patronage, but had explained shortly before that, according to OpenTable, I had only been there once. Both of these things are incorrect; the young woman must have mistaken me for someone else. We agreed that we were both glad we no longer have to bother each other. I don't see her as a customer—she doesn't see her as a restaurateur. A small but important tip to finish: Ask for a taste of the duck sauce before serving the goose; it's not great, but it's better than the goose sauce. And if you want asparagus, don't send it back if it's cooked until it's as tough as a twig. After the second time, the chef will have you explain how you're supposed to eat your asparagus.

We participated in the kitchen party. Great event with fantastic chefs and wines, and of course, fantastic hosts and their crew. A+ The DJ wasn't quite as great - we couldn't figure out why the saxophonist kept playing between songs... But otherwise: we'd love to see you again next year!

The schnitzel of my life and one of the warmest, most hospitable, and probably most memorable experiences I've ever had. Outstanding food with attention to detail and pure craftsmanship. It was a pleasure, a delight, and certainly not my last visit. Absolutely spectacular! Every dish is highly recommended!

The finest quality is always available here! We attended the BBQ event (for the second time) and were thrilled again. We started with an aperitif and a delicious selection of appetizers. Then the BBQ buffet began. Redfish, salmon, veal fillet, and ribs were just a few of the outstanding selection. There were also various side dishes and, to finish, various desserts. Everything was freshly prepared and many were prepared directly by the chef at the buffet. Simply fantastic! Of course, the restaurant is also generally recommended. Of course, the high quality comes at a price, but if you're willing to pay a few euros more, you definitely get value for your money here. Highly recommended!

Top-notch food, top-notch staff—highly recommended. The interior is a bit dated, but we'd happily return for the food. A bit retro, like the late 80s. I personally have fond memories of many family celebrations at the Klövensteen Riding Stables in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

I ate there with friends. From the moment we were greeted, we immediately felt uncomfortable, as the owner gave us a negative look, as we obviously didn't fit in with the clientele. Unfortunately, two people had to cancel due to illness. The owner reacted annoyed and made us feel it with her annoyed looks. She reluctantly covered the two empty seats. However, the rest of the staff were always helpful and welcoming.

This restaurant offers a unique fusion of flavors. I tried the spicy tuna tartare appetizer, which was fresh and well-seasoned. The main course, Korean BBQ beef, was tender and packed with flavor. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic, explaining the menu in detail. The atmosphere was lively and fun, perfect for a group dinner.

Wir kennen nur den ansich schönen Biergarten in dem wir die letzten Jahre gern einen Eiskaffee getrunken haben. Aber 2 Eiskaffee, die nicht einmal etwas Besonderes waren, für 17,- Euro ist einfach eine zu große Preiserhöhung. Löffel dazu gab es nur auf Nachfrage, und die als Teelöffel! Nie wieder.

I've been coming here for years...always a pleasure and the staff are top notch.

Yesterday afternoon, I was here for the first time with friends who had a small child with them. The interior seems a bit "old-fashioned," which I find positive and cozy... not every restaurant has to look spruced up and hypermodern. What's much more important is that the food and service are spot on, and I can thoroughly endorse both! There's a varied menu, and the food was truly delicious. The service was very attentive and excellent (and extremely child-friendly), without being intrusive. For little ones or horse lovers, you have the option of looking directly into the horse hall from your table, which was really nice (something completely different). There's also a small playground outside, but unfortunately, we didn't get to use it (typical for Pentecost, Hamburg once again showed its best side: rain, rain, rain 😉). As the name of the restaurant suggests, there are many riding stables here where you could walk along and watch the horses peeking out. Conclusion: Absolutely recommended, as everything was perfect: food, service, atmosphere, horse watching 😃 (It must be a dream in nice weather...) PS: By the way, there's no Wi-Fi in the restaurant, which I really like, because you can even chat without having to constantly fiddle with your phone 😂

I visited you for the first time as part of an invitation from a large Hamburg bank. I really enjoyed my visit; the service was excellent and attentive; especially Ronja... coffee and Afri Zero! It was delicious, too; so: everything was fine and see you next time....

I'm giving it two stars. I can't understand how it got so many positive reviews. 95% of the guests are elderly. As a family with children, you feel completely out of place. The service is extremely slow, and the value for money is completely out of place. The food tastes okay, but it lacks flair. And the food is far too expensive for that. I'll refrain from further visits.

We came with our miniature dachshund and were not allowed to sit at the window of the riding stable. When we sat down at another table, we were very rudely urged by our neighbors to place our dog as far away from them as possible. (She didn't make a sound) Overall, all the other guests were also older and grim. We left immediately. The staff sincerely apologized for the inconvenience caused to us.

Wir waren im Rahmen unseres Urlaubs für eine Woche in der Gegend und haben das Restaurant Reitstall Klövensteen besucht – es war ein echter Glücksgriff! Anlass war unter anderem der 8. Geburtstag unserer kleinen Tochter, und der Abend wurde zu etwas ganz Besonderem. Das Essen war hervorragend: ein tolles Rinder-Tatar, Wiener Schnitzel mit Spargel und Kartoffeln, Lachs mit Spargel oder das bestellte Rumpsteak – alles perfekt gegart, liebevoll angerichtet und geschmacklich ein Genuss! Der Service war außergewöhnlich freundlich, aufmerksam und sehr herzlich, sodass wir uns sofort wohlgefühlt haben. Auch das Ambiente war stimmig – gemütlich, stilvoll und einladend. Wir wohnen leider rund 700 km entfernt – sonst wären wir mit Sicherheit Stammgäste. Ein großes Dankeschön an das gesamte Team für diesen tollen Abend!

Unfortunately the restaurant is closed but you can buy fries and grilled sausage at the kiosk. There is also a small selection of drinks. You could certainly do something great with the restaurant, unfortunately it has become less and less in recent years. Too bad!

One of the best restaurants in the west of Hamburg. We've been enjoying coming here to eat for decades. The new operators have brought a breath of fresh air to the location, and the food here tastes better than ever. We recently celebrated a birthday here and were once again served great and culinary delights. We look forward to our next visit.

If you're lucky you'll get a table, but it's more relaxed if you make a reservation. But even without it, the crew always makes an effort to find a table.

Wir kennen und besuchen das Lokal seit über 40 Jahren. Der Pächter hat gewechselt und wir sind sehr positiv überrascht worden. Das Ambiente ist „entstaubt“ und die Speisekarte hat sich sehr verändert. Sie ist nicht überladen sondern sie beinhaltet ein fein abgestimmtes Angebot. Die Küche bzw. die Speisen befinden sich auf einen höheren, modernen Niveau. Vor dem Wechsel hat uns die Küche und das Angebot sehr gefallen aber jetzt sind wir begeistert von der Zubereitung, von der Präsentation und natürlich vom Geschmack. Die Auswahl der Getränke und hier speziell der angebotene Wein hat sich verändert und gefällt uns sehr. Der Nachtisch ist einfach der Hammer und rundet das gesamt Bild ab. Der Service ist aufeinander eingespielt und lässt keinen Wunsch unerfüllt. Der Übergang auf die neuen Pächter ist jetzt schon einige Zeit her, die Qualität und das Angebot sind über die Zeit konstant auf einem guten Niveau geblieben also keine „Eintagsfliege“. Alle Beteiligten sind mit vollem Einsatz und Herzblut beim Gast. Wir kommen gerne wieder…

Ein sehr schönes Ambiente. Man kann den Reitern zuschauen wie sie ihre Runden reiten. Das Essen war hervorragend. Wir hatten eine sehr leckere Gans mit Rotkohl, Knödel, Kartoffeln und Soße. Die Gans wird am Tisch tranchiert. Das Essen war super lecker. Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen.

We went with 6 people to eat goose and duck at Klövensteen. The service was excellent. You'll often look in vain for such good staff that guided us through the evening with professionalism but also humor and wit. The poultry was cut up at the table and the side dishes were plentiful. We had a great evening and would love to come back!

Wir haben in einer sehr angenehmen Atmosphäre, einer besonders netten und aufmerksamen Servicekraft hervorragend gegessen.

Gänsefleisch zäh, offenbar alte Tiere, wenig Fleisch an den Keulen und zu lange gebraten. Wenig Service mit langen Wartezeiten, fertigen Tellergerichten wie aus der Kantine, keine Nachfragen vom Kellner. In den beiden letzten Jahren war alles gut. Jetzt sind wir enttäuscht, kommen nicht wieder und werden Sie nicht weiterempfehlen.

Das Essen und der Service waren sehr gut. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

We've been to the riding stables quite a few times, but now for the first time under the new, younger management... and we always come from Geesthacht, which means a good hour's ride for us, which we're very happy to take 😊 it was super well attended and yet it still has Service worked really well, we kept asking if we had any further requests or if something was missing... really great. For our taste (we had deer goulash and klövensteen pot) but we would have liked more sauce... the spaetzle would have been happy and so would we. Sauce always works. 😉 But otherwise we had a very nice evening with really tasty 😋 food. Thank you very much and we'll see each other again in mid-March 🤗 Until then, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We had a very nice evening with a very tasty 😋 meal. Fast service, always asking if everything is still there or if something is wanted. Drinks and food came to the table quickly after ordering. Since we booked with 13 people, a reduced menu was put together. But everyone quickly found their dish. Among other things, there was venison goulash with spaetzle and the classic Klövensteentopf with three types of meat, vegetables and fried potatoes. Everything sufficient and delicious 😋 🤤. For dessert I had a very tasty crème brulee, other ice cream. We all felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

We were there as a couple yesterday to celebrate my birthday. Why do people actually ask about the occasion when making a reservation? Unfortunately, there was neither an individual decoration of the table nor a congratulation from the staff. We chose the 3-course menu. The starter (strem salmon) was very tasty, as was the dessert (apple crumble). The main course (goose breast) was okay, but nothing more. The goose sauce was very thin and bland, the dumplings were bland. The ambience, at least at our place, did not meet our expectations. We had a table by the door to the toilets, which is always very busy. At least one of us could see into the restaurant and the riding arena. The other only saw the wall, the door and a discarded side table, chair, high chair and walker. To make matters worse, the lamp started to flicker. We had to help ourselves and unplug it. After spending a good 180 EUR for 2 people, we left disappointed and won't be coming back. And no, we didn't complain on site. We didn't want to have another unpleasant conversation on a holiday like this.

Essen wirklich hervorragend und preislich auch total okay. Was sie allerdings mal etwas überdenken sollten, ist die Beleuchtung. Ist sehr hell und ungemütlich 

Ich gehe sehr gerne und regelmäßig in den Reitstall zum Essen. Die Speisen sind immer gut und der Service macht einfach nur Freude. Die saisonale Küche mit frischen Zutaten aus der Region machen das Restaurant für mich besonders. Weiter so!

Nach vielen wunderbaren Abenden ist das Restaurant Reitstall Klövensteen unser Stammrestaurant geworden - endlich muss man aus Schenefeld nicht mehr nach Hamburg fahren, um richtig gut essen gehen zu können und mit einem Service als Gast durch den Restaurantbesuch begleitet zu werden, der aufmerksam, unaufgeregt und herzlich ist. Ob in der Vorweihnachtszeit beim Gansessen, beim 5-gängigen Winzerdinner, beim Reitstall-BBQ im Genussgarten, beim Weinfest oder den Stammgerichten der Speisekarte - egal, stets kamen bislang ausschließlich Genüsse aus der Küche. Nicht eine einzige Enttäuschung, nicht ein einziges Mal, dass es uns nicht großartig geschmeckt hätte (was im Einzelfall ja völlig normal wäre, wenn es mal kein hundertprozentiger persönlicher Treffer ist bei unterschiedlichen Geschmäckern und bei den vielen verschiedenen Gerichten, die wir schon probierten). Im Reitstall wird fraglos klasse gekocht, die Speisekarte prima weiterentwickelt (gilt auch für die Weinkarte!), man wird immer satt (Service am Gast: bei verschiedenen Gerichten kann man zwischen zwei Portionsgrößen wählen) und das Preisleitungsverhältnis ist wirklich sehr fair! Wer seinen Gästen z. b. beim Barbecue ein Grillbuffet in solcher Güte, Vielfalt, Reichhaltigkeit und Kreativität für sage und schreibe nur 55 € präsentiert…! Danke!!! Petra & Lutz Nennmann

Das Restaurant Reitstall ist ein gemütliches Restaurant mit Blick in den Reitstall. Das Servicepersonal ist sehr freundlich und man fühlt such sofort wohl und willkommen. Das Essen ist wundervoll. 😋

wir mussten eine Stunde auf unsere Bestellung, Essen, warten. Das Wiener Schnitzel war "nur" warm und nicht knusprig, meiner Meinung nach waren es keine frischen grünen Bohnen, sondern TK-Ware, die fast Salzlos blanchiert wurden. Schade

In dieses Restaurant zu gehen ist immer wieder ein schönes Erlebnis. Dieses mal bayrisch besser kann es keiner machen. Es war ein Genuss. Vielen Dank dafür.
