Restaurant Palmensaal in Leipzig

The vegetarian dishes are not vegetarian and almost all contain Parmesan cheese. When I asked for no Parmesan, I was told it wouldn't be a problem, but it was only available on one of the two pizzas. Vegan options were nonexistent. The raw vegetable salad contained grilled vegetables.

Absolutely unfriendly. Not recommended, especially with a child and stroller.

Very nice ambiance, the staff very friendly and accommodating, but the food was okay. You could see and taste that the tomato sauce in the pasta was a ready-made product. It's a shame.

We were unfortunately not satisfied at all. Unfortunately, we were guided by our first impression from March 2024 and were bitterly disappointed. The hearty breakfast was really bad, compared to last time. The beer sausage had run out - okay, that can happen - but to then charge for the full breakfast and not even provide a replacement is pretty cheeky. This four times is worth it for the operator. The butter was missing, the scrambled eggs tasted sticky, probably ready-made eggs from a bottle. The extra decorations that were ordered and charged for were absolutely ridiculous. A napkin flower and two tiny basketballs. The operators made a lot of money from that at €1 per person. It's a shame that such a restaurant has lost quality and reputation in such a short time. Never again!!!

The atmosphere was great. We had reserved a table with a children's menu for a child's birthday party. The table was beautifully set. The food was delicious, but the ketchup/retilla was too little. The Palm Room was well attended, but no one asked if there were any special requests.

Haven't eaten so badly in a long time

My husband had pizza, which was very good. I had the daily special: pork medallions, peppers stuffed with couscous, and salad. Unfortunately, it wasn't good: the peppers were almost raw, the meat was very dry, and the salad was mushy. We eat at the Palmensaal twice a year, and it's always been significantly better. Service was very good.

Unfortunately, I can only give everything one star. The service was very rude. We asked if we could get a shady spot outside. No, it's not open. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. The fries were very cold. The chicken nuggets were also very cold. The pizza looked like it had been reheated five times. The salad and the cucumbers were very dry. I wouldn't recommend it. You pay almost €41 for what. It's better to go a bit further into the park to the Chinese restaurant, where it's better and cheaper. The view of the park, or rather the zoo, is very nice. You can see lots of animals and everything else there.

We were really looking forward to the birthday dinner after our zoo tour. However, we were very disappointed. Instead of the website stating that "The birthday table will be set with art sets, crayons, candy, and lots of surprises." we found a table with a streamer and placemats to color in. However, there were no crayons to color the placemats with, nor any candy or surprises. We had ordered the meal for 11:30 a.m. and didn't receive it until after 12:00 p.m. We weren't prepared for such a long wait, and the promised crayons would certainly have helped bridge the gap a bit. All in all, we were really disappointed. The birthday child was neither greeted nor congratulated, and the website (see attachment) promised much more than it actually delivered.

Nice restaurant with good food and friendly service!

Yesterday, I drank two iced coffees for €19. What can I say? The coffee wasn't exactly cold, but it tasted good. Luckily, the scoop of ice cream was cold :) So, two stars for the taste. But the price is beyond outrageous. Later on the website, we read that iced coffee costs €5.90. So, it's a questionable rip-off, or how does the price of €19 come about? We therefore cannot recommend a visit here.

We were there for the first time last weekend – the occasion was a birthday party. The food was delicious and filling. The drinks were a mixed bag: some were a bit overpriced and lacked a particular wow factor (e.g., the "homemade" iced tea), others were rather bland or overly diluted with water (e.g., the iced coffee) – but as we all know, tastes differ. The hall itself is really nice; however, the hygiene rooms don't quite fit the bill. This could be because they are also used by zoo visitors. What really disappointed us, however, was the service. Despite having reserved a table in good time, there was chaos, disarray, and a sense of being overwhelmed – the quality was unfortunately more reminiscent of the "Golden Seagull" than what the website and other venues promise. We also booked the table decoration package. Even though we weren't expecting anything glamorous, a blown-up streamer loosely draped over the table was quite disappointing. Admittedly, it was back-to-school weekend, so in addition to our group, there were many other larger table reservations plus day guests. Nevertheless, in such a situation, you should plan for sufficient staffing or adjust the number of accepted reservations to cope with the demand. So, for us, this was our first and last visit for now. Maybe we'll give it a second chance sometime—we'll see.

2 stars I had a mixed salad for €14.90, which was unfortunately very poorly dressed. When I asked whether the cheese was cow's or goat's milk, the waiter simply replied, "You're welcome to ask" – and didn't know. He also couldn't provide any information about the soup of the day. There were also a lot of flies in the restaurant. The friendly waitresses deserve special mention, but unfortunately, that doesn't salvage the overall impression. The value for money is, in my opinion, a disaster – a small iced tea (250 ml) costs €4.50, which is premium prices for a clearly non-premium service. I wouldn't go here again.

The ambiance is simply beautiful—very well-appointed. Unfortunately, the staff is very unmotivated, and you have to search for friendliness. This unfortunately leaves a depressing overall impression.

The food and ambiance were excellent, as always. The table was beautifully set for the registered school-enrollment group of 13 adults and 3 children. Unfortunately, I'm deducting a star this time for the service. We're aware that it was school-enrollment weekend (which was the reason we visited with a reservation), so it must have been really busy. That meant a lot of stress for the staff. It was very noticeable in some of the waiters, and they made no secret of it in the dining room. Our waiter, also visibly exhausted from the strenuous day, still had a joke on her lips for the children and tried hard not to let her stress show. Apart from the small mistake: the schoolchild was the last to receive a dessert (intended as the main course), significantly late and after two follow-up questions, everything went well. We thank you for everything and look forward to next year.

Diamond Wedding Celebration on July 24, 2025 For a family celebration, we reserved a table in the Palmensaal (Palm Hall) at Leipzig Zoo. Everything went smoothly. The table was festively set. The service was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed coffee and cake in this lovely setting. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. We would gladly come back.

The price/performance ratio was okay. The service was good - very good, our waitress was courteous. The pizzas are highly recommended, as is the homemade lemonade - the chef was a bit overly fond of one or two dishes :) Still a recommendation

It was a nice lunch. The staff varied greatly, from attentive and very friendly to grim. You can't beat them. The pizza was delicious.

We were last here a year ago and are unfortunately very disappointed. The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, and the staff is incredibly unfriendly. If you don't like dealing with people, maybe you should look for another job.

Delicious food with a nice atmosphere, located quite close to the entrance. The food is a bit overpriced for the quality, but it's still tolerable.

What we experienced yesterday in the Palmensaal was nothing like we were used to. We are extremely disappointed!!! Among other things, we ordered a pizza with bacon and eggs, which arrived quickly, but what we were served was the worst thing you could possibly serve your guests. The pizza arrived with a swarm of flies, we were told this was because of the high ceilings. How could that be, the egg didn't smell fresh, it was indefinable and not entirely edible. By now the flies were gathering around us. The staff considered it more important to chat about their salaries and wages in a small group than to look after the guests. I could list more, but I won't. We won't be coming back for a while. I can only advise against visiting the Palmensaal.

We had breakfast in the Palmensaal at Leipzig Zoo and we really enjoyed it! I highly recommend it, especially the friendly waiters. As an annual pass holder, I'd be happy to come back! Keep up the good work!

Unfriendly staff takes a long time even though it's not busy. Food is not good.

We go to the zoo a lot. This time we also went to the Palmensaal for dinner. (3 adults/2 children) We were seen at the entrance, but not greeted or seated. When we were seated at the table, the menus only came upon request. The vegetarian menu was very limited (90s?). Service again didn't greet us; they just wanted to take a quick order. The food wasn't a culinary highlight at all, rather "yesterday." Expensive, though. The menu featured feta cheese—upon request, it turns out it was shepherd's cheese (cow's milk). All in all, a miserable experience. Never again.

The food was great, and the value for money was good! The ambiance is also really nice! The waitress was very unpleasant and unfriendly. If you don't like your job, you should change it and not take your anger out on the customers. You should plan your time. We were almost the only ones there and had to wait a really long time for our food. We don't want to know what it's like when it's busy 🙈 Two stars deducted... 1 star for the terrible waitress and 1 star for the long wait.

For just under €20, we received a dry pizza that was impossible to fill you up on. It also seemed meager and poorly topped, and half of it was crust. Of the countless pizzas we've eaten in our lives, this was by far the worst. The taste was a disaster, so I'd gladly give it 0 stars. We paid over €100 for what we considered four small pizzas and two children's dishes (pasta with tomato sauce and nuggets with fries). The obvious principle here is to generate maximum profit with minimal effort. Quality is certainly not the goal. Only the pleasant ambience warrants one star in the overall rating.

We went to eat at the Palmengarten as a group on Monday. The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes are also good, and the food is good. What's a shame is that there were no senior citizen portions for our elderly guests, but only small-meal portions, like pasta with tomato sauce and nuggets – which is more for kids :). So, people end up ordering regular portions, and in the worst case, food ends up being thrown away.

The breakfast concept in the Palmensaal has changed. There's no longer a buffet, but you can choose between a savory or sweet breakfast, which is served accordingly. Drinks are ordered separately, so everything is billed separately, and there's no flat rate for breakfast like in the other two restaurants in the zoo. It's a bit more expensive overall, but it's relatively quiet, and there's plenty of space and peace for breakfast.

We were at the zoo this Sunday and wanted to have dinner. There were two service employees on the terrace at the time we visited. In our opinion, a friendly permanent employee (Vanessa) and a slightly annoyed trainee or intern. The three meals came quickly and were also delicious. The only problem was that some of my fried fish was raw. I reported this without making any demands. The younger employee then came back with the same plate and said: I can give you an espresso, that's all there is to it. You could have simply fried it again and put it on a new plate - that's all we wanted. We really didn't ask for anything, but the manner was really not hospitable - plus espresso or nothing? What about not drinking coffee in theory? Unfortunately I was stuck with the fish. Well next time it will probably be a different restaurant.

We had breakfast in the palm hall for the first time as a group. The ambience is great, the room is bright and spacious. The staff attentive and very, very friendly. And although the menu specifies certain details on the breakfast board, you could swap them out, which we thought was great. What we missed was colorful fresh fruit and something green - a lettuce leaf, for example. In the current strawberry season, for example, this fruit would have provided a very nice splash of color on the sterile arrangement of the dishes. Don't see it as a criticism, but as an idea for a more loving preparation. As we all know, your eyes eat with you!

Rotten potatoes in the brawn are not acceptable. The salad looked a bit old.

We celebrated a child's birthday. Very friendly staff. We really liked the atmosphere. The table was decorated in a child-friendly manner and the food was tasty. One star deducted for the food as there was little choice for the adults. We would recommend the restaurant.

It is a cozy restaurant that has a special flair. The waitresses are attentive and friendly. The food is very good and recommended.

Unfortunately there are deficits in the children's menus. There was no surprise. Delivery problems were only reported after we asked. Children's noodles watery, overcooked, sauce tasted bitter

Food is rather mediocre, we were there for breakfast, the scrambled eggs were only lukewarm and a bit watery, the rolls were very small and definitely a cheaply baked roll, the cold cuts were very smoky, and for that price you could expect something better.

We had reserved a table for breakfast. When we arrived the whole restaurant was empty. No one greeted or served us, so we found ourselves (the only reserved) table. When I pointed out us and cleared my throat loudly in a friendly manner, the bartender, who was engrossed in his smartphone, pointed out that his colleague, rather than him, was responsible for me. It was clear from the overpriced breakfast that the Palmensaal probably had no breakfast guests in winter. The doll-sized bun was so hard that I cut my hand with the knife when I cut it open. Some of the sausage was older and had a discolored edge, and it also smelled a little. The scrambled eggs were good. The cappuccino for €4 had a cafeteria feel and the straw was twice as long as the juice glass. The only thing is that the ambience was nice and with a higher number of visitors the quality might be better. However, with such quality I would no longer offer breakfast.

Very nice atmosphere within the zoo. The food and cocktails are very tasty. We have had the experience of saying clearly what should be served as a first and main course. Unfortunately we got both at once. You should also bring some time with you. All in all a very nice restaurant.

We were there for the first time. Whether we had a bad day or whether our experiences are representative - I have no idea. We arrived shortly before 2 p.m. with 2 hungry children and an infant. There were still enough free places. In the following 20 minutes, however, the room increasingly filled with guests. We chose quickly - but unfortunately a waitress didn't come to us for a long time, only after we asked aggressively. Various tables that arrived well after us were able to order before us. The service seemed chaotic. After waiting again, we were informed that a device needed to make pizza was defective. Alternative dishes must be selected for all pizzas. Stupid in a place where the focus is on pizza. Whatever happens, we chose quickly. After another wait and extremely hungry, complaining, now tired children (the other tables that arrived after us had already eaten...) we politely asked when we could expect food. The answer was that they wanted to ask. But people would probably shout at each other in the kitchen because something was wrong. Only the drinks came in a reasonable time. When the food finally came, 2 out of 4 eaters were very disillusioned. “Mozarella meets tomato” was a toasted bread with pesto, mozzarella and tomato on some side salad. For around €13 it was an absolute disgrace. 4 pieces of cheapest, very rubbery wholesale mozzarella, 1 slice of bread and mostly tomato slices. And the 7-year-old child, wiry in stature and normal eater, wasn't satisfied with the "normal" portion of pasta for adults. Price-performance poor. In comparison, the pulled pork bread was much more generous and the price was okay, and the egg tart with ice cream and cream was just about the same. Both the 0.5l "homemade lemonade" and the "unsweetened iced tea" (almost €7 each) were absolutely unconvincing in terms of taste, had indefinable content and were served in wine carafes with a straw. After a 2 hour stay we were around €70 poorer, unnerved and neither full nor satisfied. Our conclusion is that we will only stop here for coffee and something sweet. The location is beautiful and stands out in the zoo with its tranquility. But we won't be back for a main meal. It wasn't the "nice thing to eat at the zoo" that you as a family want and can expect given the prices.

We always come for breakfast and always feel very comfortable and in good hands. The staff is always very nice and attentive to the customers, big compliments to the employees. Food is lovingly prepared and very plentiful. Price performance is justified.

Unfortunately only whole eggs from the tetra pack. The entire breakfast was nothing special and the selection wasn't really that big.

The hall is really great. The food also tastes good and comes very quickly - a little more salt would be good, but it depends on individual taste. But what bothers you is the poor service. 20 minutes from the time we enter until we get a card and then we can order another 25 minutes later is not possible. Especially when not even 50% of the tables are occupied. I also find the fact that there is no receipt… strange

The hall is an absolute experience! Especially when the sun is shining, the restaurant is bathed in a beautiful light. Fantastic! The food is varied and seasonal. There are also menus for children. Price-performance is perfectly fine! Even when the hall was full of people (including 2 children's birthday parties) it was pleasantly quiet. Absolutely recommended! We'll definitely be back!

This is simply outrageous. They brought me a piece of pumpkin that wasn't fresh and already had a bad smell. The child had black nuggets. Change the chef because the restaurant is very nice and the waiters are nice

I went there for lunch today with my child. Free choice of seating and few guests, very pleasant atmosphere. Very nice staff, menu came quickly. Because of my child's age, I decided on a children's dish of pasta with tomato sauce and cheese, as well as a homemade lemonade. The lemonade was extremely tasty. But the pasta with tomato sauce was the nastiest thing I've ever eaten. Kind of bitter without any spice, my child ate maybe 6 noodles. I ate the rest due to the high price of €7. Paid quickly and a little something for the child was organized somewhere else.

Food was OK. However, the food is somewhat typical Marchee. More of a fast food restaurant than a real restaurant. You can really notice the system gastronomy in the food. The menu was very clear. The service was friendly and quick. You're mainly there to visit the zoo and not to eat. Nevertheless, Marche's zoo gastronomy is generally below average. You don't starve, but somehow it's not a highlight either. You could certainly offer the guest more if they were willing to pay a little more. I think it's particularly positive that you can reserve seats online. That worked fine. I found the atmosphere in the Palm Hall very good. No feeling and no acoustics of a train station hall. Really tiptoppi.

Unfortunately the breakfast was just nice. The choice was small - sweet or savory breakfast - the rolls were simple baked goods, so I don't go out for breakfast. Unfortunately there were no milk alternatives to the coffee variations. Serving on large boards was visually very nice but absolutely impractical on the small table. The service staff was friendly at first, but then we felt forgotten. Unfortunately, the dishes and the overly large boards were not cleared away after the meal, there was no request for further drinks, so we had to approach the service. To order the bill you first had to find the staff. We will not use this breakfast offer again.

We were very satisfied 😊 The service was very attentive and our breakfast was bombastic.

The café is directly behind the entrance. I had taigatella with chicken and mushrooms, mushroom turkey. The noodles were too cold, the cream sauce curdled. The whole thing was bland and unseasoned. To make up for it, we had an espresso. And then another €18. An impudence. At least the service was very nice.

Unfortunately my food (pasta) was cold. The portion with the green pesto was very small. Price performance is not right here. The small salad I ordered with it had so little dressing that I asked myself why there was any dressing at all. The bread was fresh. After requesting, we were sponsored an espresso. I can't recommend either of the pasta dishes here because my husband's pasta dishes weren't that great either. The sauce had curdled and he had twice the amount of pasta.

The sweet breakfast met our expectations. During the hearty breakfast, the scrambled eggs were partly burnt and we were missing little things like fresh tomatoes and cucumber.

Apparently the option to have breakfast there hasn't been around for that long. The organization was not good. We reserved the table long enough in advance and there were nine people. The reservation was for 9:30 a.m. (it opens at 9 a.m.). We were immediately informed that the waffles were already out....? Half an hour after opening and despite calculated advance reservations? Then it took almost 20 minutes for our order to be taken. We had to wait another 30 minutes for the order. There was a small child whose breakfast came last (!). Parts of the breakfast were missing and we had to order them. Overall, the quality of the breakfast was ok, but nothing special. We would have done much better in a cafe in the city center, which is within walking distance. The service was friendly and can't help the poor organization. But it's better overall!

Food was delicious Staff a little overwhelmed. Waited 15 minutes to clear a table. And even so, after eating you thought you were dead. But otherwise a very pleasant location.

We visited their restaurant on April 3rd and reserved a table at 9am. When we arrived at the restaurant, two tables were already occupied. It took about 10 minutes until we received a card. After we ordered we had to wait about another 10 minutes for the coffee. What could be the reason that a table came after us and ordered after us. About 5 minutes, he received his drinks and food before us. Unfortunately we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. Which is a real shame considering the capacity and the limited time in the zoo. But the quality of the food was good and with better service it would certainly have been 4-5 stars.

Very rich breakfast at a reasonable price, super friendly and courteous staff and an incredibly beautiful atmosphere with real palm trees! We'll definitely be back!

The food tasted very tasty. It was a sweet and a savory platter of goodies. (We really liked that there were small waffle bowls with jam, chocolate and honey on the sweet plate; these were edible. Great idea!) I would have liked to have had one more roll on the savory plate, but for my wife it was more than enough on the sweet one. The service person on February 14, 2024 was in a really good mood, very nice and accommodating. That's what you want. I deduct one point for the ambience, it could have been a little warmer. Overall we were very satisfied and would love to come back. Kind regards, see you soon.

Super delicious food in a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service should pay more attention to cleanliness. We are there relatively often and unfortunately tables and chairs are almost never wiped down here. You always have clear traces of the previous guests.

To get your visit to Leipzig Zoo off to the right start, a rich, varied breakfast in the Palmenhaus restaurant is essential. Right behind the entrance you can get in the mood with a glass of champagne to start with and either a savory or a sweet breakfast offering everything an empty stomach and your heart desires. A top address, good service and quick staff, a little small talk and everything is fine. Thank you very much, and we'll be happy to come back.

Very nice, considerate service staff

Super nice and super relaxed atmosphere after a visit to the zoo. Also stays up longer. Pizza and salads are super fresh and well made. However, I have to deduct a point for a cold pizza. It was tasty nonetheless.

From dirty dishes to dirty seats to food that didn't taste good and overpriced prices (19 euros for a pizza), everything was there. Oh yes, and you are initially ignored for a few moments. we will never eat here again. Very unfortunate

We were there today for the tropical glow. And the food, ambience and service were great. The menu is small but there is something for every taste. The prices are also completely reasonable. For two drinks, two main courses and two desserts, just under €50 is totally OK. If we visit the zoo again, we will definitely eat here again. It is only recommended.

Wir sind oft und eigentlich immer gerne im Palmensaal gewesen. In letzter Zeit ist das Personal jedoch immer gestresster geworden. Als wir nun wieder dort waren, hatten wir reserviert. Da wir uns um eine Viertelstunde verspätet haben, habe ich dort angerufen und dies mitgeteilt. Die Antwort am Telefon: "unschön, aber da kann man wohl nichts machen". Ich meinte: "Ja, da kann man nix machen". Daraufhin wurde aufgelegt. Nun gut, der Tisch war noch frei als wir kamen. Aber das Servicepersonal war teils sehr gestresst. Genervt brachte man uns das Essen. Als wir nach fehlenden Gerichten fragten, teilte man uns augenrollend mit, dass das Essen schon nach und nach noch kommen würde. Wenn ein Kinderessen aber erst kommt, wenn die Erwachsenen halb aufgegessen haben, ist das echt nicht toll. Wir finden auch, dass die Qualität des Essens nachgelassen hat. Der Beilagensalat ist ein Witz im Vergleich zu früher, das tolle Familienmenü mit Pizza, Pommes und Salat gibt es nicht mehr, die Pizza ist kleiner geworden. Aber alles natürlich teurer. Echt schade...

Von der Reservierung bis hin zum Essen war alles perfekt 🤩

Das herzhafte Frühstück war in Ordnung und schmackhaft. Es war aber vieles aus der "Retorte", oder wirkte so. Das kann Marche besser.

Sehr leckeres Frühstück und angenehme Atmosphäre. Der Service war auch super. Wir kommen gern wieder.

Wir haben dort mit 3 Personen gefrühstückt ( Herzhaftes Frühstück) War eines der besten das wir bisher auswärts gegessen haben. Personal war sehr freundlich.
