Restaurant Neumühle in Altensteig

We were a family of four cycling the Nagold Valley Cycle Path and stayed overnight at the Rose Hotel. It's a beautiful new building, replacing the historic one that had to be demolished. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and functionally well-designed (with two older boys, the "Rose" room was perfect and stress-free). We were able to leave our bikes safely in the underground garage, the owners were very friendly, the service was excellent, the food was good, the breakfast was lovely… and the location is fantastic (right next to the old town). In short: a perfect experience. Highly recommended.

Die Baiermühle ist ein wunderbarer Ort. Schwarzwaldidylle pur mit sehr gutem, frisch gekochtem Essen. Leider gibt es einen Vermuthstropfen. Als Gast fühlt man sich nicht wie der sprichwörtliche König, sondern eher ein wenig wie ein Bettler. Wenn man über den Waldweg oberhalb der Mühle kommt, wird man auf einem Schild vor den Hunden gewarnt. Nur Gäste dürfen über das Gelände gehen. Woher sollen die Hunde eigentlich wissen, wer Gast und wer einfacher Spaziergänger ist? Jemand, der Angst vor Hunden hat, fühlt sich auf jeden Fall abgeschreckt, ob Gast oder nicht. Über die Mittagszeit bekommt man kein Vesper oder nur einen Salat, sondern nur hochpreisige warme Gerichte. Der Beilagensalat ist sehr klein geraten. Außerdem ist er zusätzlich zum Hauptgericht zu bestellen, was die sowieso schon recht gehobenen Preise nochmals erhöht. Es ist nicht möglich, die Beilage zu ändern (in manchen Restaurants kann man die Beilagen zu jedem Gericht frei wählen - das ist vermutlich eine Frage der Organisation). Ein wenig mehr Großzügigkeit würde den Aufenthalt an diesem herrlichen Ort zu einem rundum positiven und bereicherndem Erlebnis machen. So bleibt leider ein fahler Beigeschmack. Sehr, sehr schade. Ich verstehe meine Kritik als konstruktiv und hoffe, sie ist eine Anregung für die Verantwortlichen, das eine oder andere zu ändern. Dann wären die Gäste rundum glücklich!

Delicious food (Spätzle, fries, roast beef with onions, and schnitzel). Good portions and very friendly hosts! The Tennisstüble is highly recommended.

Most of what needs to be said has probably already been said: - Outstanding host (!!!) – it's no wonder they've received awards and recommendations. - A complimentary appetizer at the beginning, a little something extra at the end. - Good food & good quality (just a tiny bit of flax in the gyros). - Good service, excellent advice. - According to the owner, smaller portions of regular dishes are unfortunately not possible. - The ambiance has already been mentioned several times. But it must be said that it's quite well done for this location. You certainly can't customize everything to your liking. Apart from the minor issue with the smaller portions, we generally enjoyed our meal very much. Therefore, a clear recommendation!

The food is delicious 😋 and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.
