Das Mediterrane in Altensteig

We stayed at Das Mediterrane and were completely thrilled. Everything was incredibly fresh, homemade, and prepared with great attention to detail. The dishes change seasonally, which isn't just evident on the menu – the dishes were creatively balanced and delicious. Unlike many typical Greek restaurants, nothing was overpowering, heavy, or greasy, but rather delicate, balanced, and full of flavor. We were particularly impressed by the service: absolutely top-notch! The host, Georg, takes the time to explain each dish in detail, including the lovingly prepared accompaniment from the kitchen – you feel truly welcome and appreciated. It was a wonderful stay, and we'd love to come back :)

After our apartment was disappointing, we ended up at the neighbors for a bite and a drink. We didn't expect much but this Greek left us amazed! The food was fantastic, our waiter was all friendliness and explained every dish. We felt at home, highly recommended!

The service is first-class. You receive a very friendly welcome and are well looked after without feeling overwhelmed. The food was delicious and arrived relatively quickly. The restaurant's location isn't ideal, but once you find it, you'll be treated to the culinary delights of Greek cuisine. A true gem that's definitely worth a visit. We'd happily return.

Hmm, what can I say? If you're looking for a restaurant with excellent, top-quality food and even better service, this is the place for you. We would be here much more often if it weren't a 1.5-hour drive. Greek cuisine like you probably won't find anywhere else in this region. You feel at home right from the start. We'll be back. I can't share the enthusiasm of the other reviews at all, with one exception: the service was excellent. The ambiance, on the other hand, is abysmal. A former Black Forest parlor of the no longer existing Best Western Hotel with lost-place charm, with a complete lack of Greek ambiance. The terrace is littered with weeds and dilapidated furniture, overlooking the cushions and stacked children's chairs in the dining room, including the remaining winter decorations on the windows. The food, once calamari and once gyros: rather small portions and, above all, unfortunately neither well-grilled nor well-seasoned. I've had much tastier authentic Greek cuisine, to put it kindly. Sorry, but we were here once and that will definitely be the last time.

It was our first time at this restaurant, which was recommended to us by good friends. The food, service and decor of the restaurant are excellent. And we will definitely come back.

We haven't had service like this for years - simply unbelievable - like from another time and not from Germany! Small touches like a welcome drink or the little “greeting from the kitchen” were wonderful. But the real reason for the visit - the food - was equally outstanding. The salad and main course were truly first class. Vegetables are fresh, meat is on point and very attractively prepared. Absolutely recommended, it is certainly no longer an insider tip in the somewhat remote Altensteig-Wart. The drive here is worth it!

For me it was okay, but nothing more or nothing less. Service was good and friendly, but I expected more from the food and ate better Greek for the price.

The food - great. It takes a while to prepare, but it's cooked to perfection and super tasty. The staff is great. Very good advice and explanations of the dishes and, if necessary, the preparation. Fast service. Special requests no problem. Very child friendly. Joke with the kids, treats and if you need them, high chairs are available. Parking is no problem, just in the underground car park. Ambience is nice, but still needs some improvement. Toilets in the basement. Large portions. Update: Easter 2025 - looks well attended. Reservation recommended. We had great food and service.

The restaurant is not in the nicest area, but that is not reflected in the restaurant. The atmosphere was nice and atmospheric and the staff was very friendly. The food was very good. For starters we had a platter of various smaller starters, each of which was very good. The main course was also great and I can only warmly recommend it. For desert we again ordered a platter with 3 different desserts, each of which was outstanding. I can only recommend the restaurant and will happily visit the restaurant again when I am in the area again.

So the location is interesting, at first I wasn't sure if the restaurant was even open. Luckily, though, I went in and tried it. For me, the service was very pleasant and helpful but not too intrusive, so it was great. The food didn't take long to arrive and it arrived. FYI there was a house drink, a small appetizer and a small dessert, not big but really tasty and the fact that something like that is offered at all is really nice. Bifteki with homemade fries (I miss not finding homemade fries in Germany) is common in Greece. All in all, I would come here again at any time

The restaurant is located a little outside in a less attractive area. Very friendly welcome, good selection of food. All in all, we were satisfied, but given the many five-star reviews, I expected more. The starter platter, the Altensteiger platter and also the dessert were very tasty but nothing special. Therefore, four stars are appropriate for me, which corresponds to a good review. It should also be emphasized that you get a welcome drink and a spoonful of hummus (see pictures) and after your meal a delicious ouzo or a small chocolate pudding.

Great, friendly and excellent Atmosphere. The food came to the table at the right time for everyone. No waiting and everything is of excellent quality. It was a be-all and end-all, people were delighted with the tasty dishes and plates. The host's recommendations were followed and a delicious dessert concluded our menu. With a very good feeling of having had a really great meal, we are always happy to come back, which we have done several times now. Thank you for the nice advice and excellent service. If you don't want "standard" Greek food, this is the place for you. Seafood top and fresh. The farmer's salt was great with a great vinegar/oil dressing. It was noticed that an excellent olive oil was used. The liver was buttery tender and grilled until crispy on the outside. Desserts are also a delight. Great cook!!! We were served very professionally, friendly and charmingly by Mona. Great service!!!

What does everyone immediately think of when they think of Greek cuisine? Olive oil, garlic, lots of meat or fish, everything fresh, colorful and rich. You don't tend to associate it with top-class cuisine, and you'll probably hardly find it in taverns in the Mediterranean region. It's a shame actually. But you'll find what you're looking for in Wart bei Altensteig, where there are actually creative variations of the usual Greek menu staples. Example Tzatziki: Available here in red. And it actually tastes completely different. Gherkin was once used instead of cucumber. Result: Too much acid. So fried tomato paste was added. Okay, it's no longer tzatziki, but the result is really good. A visit is really worth it, especially since Georgios absolutely lives up to his claim of offering guests a fantastic experience.

The food was very good. I had the saffron manestra, which was really impressive in terms of taste. Overall, we really enjoyed the visit and I could imagine coming back again. An incredibly beautiful hidden Greek restaurant! Food top Ambiance top Service more than top I've been there twice now and both times I felt really comfortable. Very friendly welcome from the boss and extremely friendly service from the employee who served us! Both had a very likeable charisma and a consistently happy demeanor. About the food: 5 out of 5 stars says it all. Price performance top! I can only personally recommend it, sometimes just a starter plate is enough to fill you up. The atmosphere in the main room is super cozy, in the next room there are more tables and a children's games area. The only thing that caught my eye was the small selection of images and the way they were positioned. It was relatively difficult to find the first time. However, there is now signage.

The previous reviews are incomprehensible to me - when we visited, the chef either had a miserable day or was completely overwhelmed. After an eternity of waiting (1 1/2 hours) the gyros we ordered arrived. The wafer-thin strips of meat were partly burnt, straw-dry and blandly seasoned. The homemade fries lacked the crunch and the spice mixture used wasn't to my taste either. The tzatziki tasted ok, but without grated cucumbers an important component was missing. Conclusion: I would have expected something different for the somewhat higher price range - this was the first and certainly only visit.

Based on the reviews and delicious pictures here, I definitely expected more. Maybe we were just unlucky today. Waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food, for 3x gyros with fries, once with extra liver, twice with a side salad. The liver was very tasty, but there were hardly any gyros on one plate, unfortunately the gyros were mainly dry... And the fries were homemade, but unfortunately not really a hit. And the "apology" for why everything took so long was just audacious... That would have been because we had ordered salad, which was an appetizer... Sorry, but what I ordered was "gyros with fries and a side salad" and a side dish is part of a dish. And you could also see a lot of hungry faces at the other tables, they must have all ordered their salad “wrong”. Sorry, but if things don't go smoothly for whatever reason, then honestly, it's best to say it when you order, so the visit was unfortunately very frustrating and what was on the plate after almost 1 1/2 hours... Unfortunately there was no compensation for this.
