Restaurant Mama Leone in Köln

The quality is okay. The price/performance ratio, however, is terrible. Five small pieces of bread with half a chopped tomato and a few onions cost €10 as a bruschetta starter, and a (quite tasty) lasagna the size of a cigarette pack for a whopping €15 as a main course. I used to be happier here. Addition: The photos in the reviews confirm that it's gotten worse. Our two lasagnas were half of what was photographed here 1-2 years ago. Unfortunately, I forgot the photo.

We ate there with our child. From the very beginning, we were made to feel unwelcome. Everything had to be rushed, and we could hardly browse the menu in peace. The food itself was okay, but the adult portion was no larger than a small child's portion. We eat out often, but we've never had so little for such high prices. The only consolation here is the view of the Rhine. We adults had barely finished our food when the food was already being busily cleared away, even though the child still had food on their plate. Our neighbors at the table complained audibly that the hosts were "must have had a bad day." It's a shame that, given the high prices, there was far too little food, and the courtesy fell far short of expectations.

This was the most disappointing experience of my life. We wanted to have dinner with my father and enjoy the beautiful view of the river. However, the elderly waiter was extremely rude. We ordered Kölsch and two Wiener Schnitzels. The beer arrived quickly, but when the schnitzels were served, we were shocked. It was a tough pork sole in a batter coating that fell off the slice of meat. The meat was dry and tasteless. The potatoes were fried in old oil, had a brownish color and an unpleasant aftertaste. The "salad" consisted of iceberg lettuce, a spoonful of corn, and a single slice of tomato. In response to our complaint, the waiter replied, "Just mix mayonnaise with ketchup and eat it; we always do it that way here." When we retorted that it was inedible, he became rude and aggressive. He threw the bill on the table like dogs and said card payments weren't accepted. Our mood was completely ruined, and we went home hungry and angry. We can't recommend this place to anyone. You'll be insulted, humiliated, and left hungry for your money.

The staff's behavior was bad and we left without eating. There is a great pizza restaurant next door with a higher rating.

Using the restroom costs 1 euro. I can't recommend pizza—you'd think it was a convenience store (Dr. Oetker or something). Seating—nice view of the Rhine, but you shouldn't leave your backpack on the ground because the ground is more dust than gravel. It's a shame we made this choice in Cologne...

The pizza base was a frozen pre-made pizza. My bad, I should have read the reviews beforehand. You can definitely go straight to Lidl for food, it's definitely cheaper.

We were at Gamescom and were hungry. Moh, a very friendly waiter, greeted us warmly, and we stayed for dinner. The food was truly delicious. We felt very comfortable. Best wishes & see you next year.

A restaurant I can't recommend without question. I'm beyond angry. You can only pay with a card if you have a minimum of 20 euros, I understand... But why the argument? I had two drinks for 13 euros and I'm supposed to tip 7 euros?! Nonsense!!! I told him to give me a coffee to go or another Coke, he called me to the cashier and said it's 20 euros. To avoid starting an argument, I paid the garbage, but that's the last straw. The waiter doesn't deserve anything. I'm beyond pissed off; I'm not even from Cologne, and this kind of thing ruins my whole day. Definitely not recommended. They're ripping you off. And a cocktail for 12-14 euros is outrageous, just FYI, the prices are overpriced!!!!!! The service wasn't good at all...but they didn't want to offer an alternative, preferring to harass me!!!!

A restaurant sitting next to the river with a great outdoor terrace and nice view, service was not to bad and food was ok, the waiter spoke good english. I would come again for the vibe (lots of people walking past) but the food situation needs a bit improvement.

My experience: when I was about to pay, the waiter told me that paying by card required to include a tip. I didn’t want to leave a tip, and still, the guy told me that if I didn’t want to leave it, I had to use cash. Told him that this requirement was not included in the menu, and yet, no response. I didn’t know it was up to the restaurant to decide the client’s payment method. Plus, very impolite manners from his side.

There was a rude waiter there. When I simply asked for a Red Bull, he raised his voice saying he didn’t have to memorize the menu, but that’s literally part of his job. Instead of just giving me a simple yes or no, he decided to give me a life lesson, which was hilarious. You pay for service, and you get attitude. One star

The meal was okay. I think this happens rarely but I found pieces of plastic on my plate, I'm an adult so it's okay but if it was children who ate it it could have been more serious, we just have to prevent it from happening again by being more vigilant.

Stopped just for drinks. The waiter was rude - very aggressive in his serving. Automatically assumed the change was tips, had to ask for change back since he didn't earn it. It costed money to use the bathroom, even as a guest.

We were there twice. This time I was very disappointed. The waiter was condescending and patronizing and burned the schnitzel. I asked a simple question. I wanted the salad garnish that came with the schnitzel on a separate plate. This request turned into a huge argument. The salad garnish was then rudely slammed onto my table. What's the problem with that? I don't like it when the schnitzel sits in the dressing. A sentence like "young man..." Mind you, I'm 55 years old is completely unacceptable. I behaved well, but that doesn't give the waiter the right to talk to me in such a condescending and patronizing manner. Age shouldn't play a role in how you're served by a waiter!!! I didn't feel like further discussion and didn't complain about the burnt schnitzel. I'm attaching a picture of it.

Worst food in Cologne. Chicken schnitzel was like eating cardboard an insult to Vienna , burger just as bad, all thrown on a plate with a handful of frozen fries. Felt like we were inconveniencing the staff by being there. Only plus point i can possibly mention is the toilets were very clean and the lady attendant was very lovely, unlike the rest of the staff. Was a real shame to remember this as our last meal in Cologne as everywhere else we ate was first class.

The service in the restaurant is friendly. Unfortunately, the food was not tasty at all. We had a pasta dish, which was practically unseasoned. It tasted like dry pasta. Unfortunately, the same goes for the pizza. It's topped with the right ingredients, but there's no trace of the Italian art of fine seasoning. The steak is a similar story. We enjoyed the view, but were extremely disappointed with the food.

We have to pay, and they don't accept credit cards; luckily we had cash. The final highlight is the one-euro toilet fee, something I've never seen before. Avoid.

(4+2) Which we understood… except that this large table remained empty throughout the dinner. I order water by the carafe (from the tap). The waiter brings me a 25cl bottle, opens it immediately, and serves me. I remind him that I asked for tap water... "no tap water here." Okay, maybe I could have chosen something else for the same price. I had a 30cl beer! They ask the customer what they want; they don't impose the most expensive water on them (there was a 25cl bottle of spring water for €2.70). In short, it's definitely an Italian restaurant with bad Italian habits! The tip wasn't included, fortunately, because it went on the overpriced bottle of water. Otherwise, the food was good. Even if the fish and chips were too soggy! Last thing, we were told to sit where we wanted, 3 minutes later we were asked to take a table for 4 instead of a table for 4+2, OK I understand that if 6 people arrive it's annoying but the table remained empty the whole time of dinner.....

The food here tastes like nothing. We ate king prawns, Wiener schnitzel, and tuna salad. I'd especially like to point out that the French fries served with the Wiener schnitzel tasted like nothing. That's a real challenge. Definitely a masterpiece.

The food was terrible. The beetroot salad came out of a jar, the bruscetta looked and tasted like it was made by a 5 year old and I've had better carbonara as a microwave ready meal. The worst thing is, these guys are actually Italian. No wonder they live in Germany. Making that quality of food in your homeland is more than enough to have your citizenship revoked and be banished for eternity.

The waiter, Abbas, was very respectful and fulfilled all our wishes. I can only recommend this place for delicious beer and good food.

We were there today to eat Wienerschnitzel with fries and salad. The food was very tasty. The only thing I have to complain about is that we had to wait almost 40 minutes for the food.

Yesterday we had dinner at “Mama Leone” and absolutely loved it. The food was great and the waiters were very attentive. We'd love to come back. In fact, I was very surprised when I read the bad reviews today. We have nothing to complain about.

We were guests at this restaurant yesterday and were unfortunately very disappointed. When we politely asked whether it was possible to turn on the heaters, the waiter Daniel reacted completely inappropriately and aggressively. His behavior was neither professional nor hospitable - on the contrary: the reaction was so rude that we decided not to eat at all. We just paid our drink bill and left the restaurant. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable in the catering industry. It's a shame, because the location itself has potential - but service like this is definitely a deterrent.

Unfortunately my visit to this restaurant was a huge disappointment. The staff was extremely unfriendly and seemed to have no interest in providing guests with a pleasant experience. Questions were answered in an annoyed tone and there was no effort to welcome us or provide friendly service. I have rarely experienced something like this. I definitely won't be back and I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Walking along the embankment on a hot day, we saw an empty cafe. We decided to sit down and first order a bottle of Kölsch. The elderly waiter, taking the order, showed dissatisfaction with all his appearance. Initially, I filed a claim that payment by card was impossible, although I had no intention of paying by card. At the next stage, he began to force me to order something else. I said I needed time, just a beer first. To which the waiter said: ordering a bottle of beer and sitting here for three hours won’t do. The cocktail bar is next. Quite a strange attitude, but oh well. We took the money to the next establishment, where the waiters simply accepted the order without any unnecessary fuss.

Tourist trap. You needed to pay 1€ to go to the toilet. Even when you eat there? + They asked for tips when we paid. Hello, welcome to Europe?? Sorry, but then you need to raise your prices. Wir haben uns mit der Familie auf der Terrasse draußen hingesetzt. Die Speisekarten lagen bereits auf dem Tisch. Kurz danach kam der Kellner – noch bevor wir richtig Zeit hatten, in die Karte zu schauen. Meine Frau wollte ein Wiener Schnitzel bestellen, mein Kind und ich wollten uns noch etwas Zeit zum Überlegen nehmen. Als er nach den Getränken fragte, sagten wir, dass wir uns zuerst kurz umsehen möchten und ihm in ein paar Minuten Bescheid geben. Der Kellner meinte daraufhin, wir sollen jetzt alles bestellen, damit er nicht mehrmals kommen muss. Wir baten ihn freundlich, in ein paar Minuten zurückzukommen. Er schlug dann selbst vor, dass er das Schnitzel schon weitergeben und später nur noch die Getränke aufnehmen könne. Als wir zustimmten, sagte er plötzlich, dass das doch nicht möglich sei – er würde in zwei Minuten zurückkommen, um die komplette Bestellung aufzunehmen. Auch das war für uns in Ordnung. Doch als er vom Tisch wegging, warf er den Gästen am Nachbartisch einen Blick zu und schüttelte deutlich den Kopf – als wollte er andeuten, dass mit uns etwas nicht stimmt. Das war unhöflich und respektlos. Wir fühlten uns dadurch sehr unwohl und sind sofort aufgestanden und gegangen. Der Kellner sprach kaum Deutsch und war vermutlich Italiener. Er machte selbst Vorschläge, die er dann wieder ablehnte – das war verwirrend und wirkte sehr unprofessionell. Für ein Restaurant mit dem Namen „Mama Leone“ hätten wir uns mehr Gastfreundschaft und Respekt erwartet. Leider eine unangenehme Erfahrung.

The waiters here work extremely poorly and behave extremely disrespectfully. Many of them have no decency or manners - just antisocial. This is by far the worst place I have ever experienced. An older waiter speaks with complete disrespect, and the worst part is that these people obviously have no fear of consequences or punishment. If it were up to me, I would immediately alert someone to these conditions and have this terrible cafe closed.

Mamá León, has tomado lo que se suponía que era una simple entrega de pizza y lo has convertido en una pesadilla absoluta. Una hora y media. Ese es el tiempo que esperé por una pizza. No una comida gourmet. No un festín de cinco platos. Sólo una pizza simple. Y cuando finalmente llegó, mi emoción se convirtió en horror al abrir la caja. La pizza estaba FRÍA. Hielo frío. Ni siquiera sé cómo se las arregla para entregar algo que no solo no es cálido, sino que literalmente se enfría como si saliera de una nevera. Estoy casi seguro de que la pizza tardó tanto en llegar aquí porque estaba esperando a congelarse sola. Cada bocado se sentía como masticar a través de la decepción, con una corteza empapada y queso congelado que parecía que estaba tratando de escapar de la pizza. ¿Los ingredientes? Sin mencionar, porque todos habían sido reducidos a un triste desastre que parecía más un castigo que una comida. He tomado cartón más sabroso. ¿Cómo es posible? Mamá León, de alguna manera has encontrado una manera de arruinar algo tan simple como la pizza. Me has hecho cuestionar toda mi existencia. Habría estado mejor comiendo un zapato o masticando una servilleta, porque al menos no habría sido tan fría e insípida. ¿El servicio? Ni siquiera me hagas empezar. Podría haber recibido un servicio más rápido si hubiera caminado hasta el restaurante descalzo cruzando la ciudad, hacia atrás, bajo la lluvia. Nunca, nunca más. No malgastes tu dinero ni tu cordura.

Sinceramente, no puedo creer cuánto tiempo tardó en salir la pizza. Fue increíblemente lento, como, físicamente no debería tomar tanto tiempo hacer una pizza. No estamos hablando de una caña lenta de cordero asado aquí, es masa, salsa, queso y coberturas. En un momento empecé a preguntarme si tenían que plantar el trigo y cultivar los tomates primero. Y para colmo, el 7 - Up era demasiado picante. Ni siquiera sabía que era posible, pero de alguna manera lo lograron. Honestamente, toda la experiencia se sintió como una prueba de paciencia y papilas gustativas, y fallé ambas. No lo recomendaría a menos que no tengas donde estar y una alta tolerancia al calor efervescente.

We wanted to go out to eat on the Rhine promenade on a Saturday evening and were unfortunately disappointed here. The waitress rushed over relatively quickly to take the drink order, but within a few minutes she delivered a small drink instead of a large one. I thought it could definitely happen in prime time, I let the waiter know, but nothing else happened. The food came to us (just) in a reasonable time, but according to the comments, the neighboring tables had it worse. In both cases, the quality of the bacon burger and a pasta dish was on par with that of frozen food. I've also never had cocktail sauce on a bacon burger, but to be fair it can vary from region to region. The highlight, however, came when we had finished eating. Suddenly no one felt responsible for us anymore and so we waited and waved for a long time until we could finally request the bill. However, there was no invoice. We had to tell the waiter all the drinks and food we ordered, which he typed into his calculator and in the end asked for a price of just over €50. When I wanted to pay by card he said it was only possible in cash. He just turned off the WiFi. Sure, it also makes sense at 8 p.m. on a Saturday evening on Cologne's Rhine promenade. I'm sure no one will come by anymore. When I looked puzzled he then said: “50 is okay too”. Paid 50 euros, which immediately disappeared into my jacket pocket. No invoice received. Conclusion: Very dubious behavior on the part of the waiter and not good food. Too bad.

Starter plate for €26 is made from cheap supermarket goods. The garlic bread is a pizza dough without garlic. Doesn't have to be.

We were a group of 5 and all the dishes were fresh and good, specially the dish called tris di pasta (you get to try three different things: tortellini, cannelloni and lasagna). The staff was very friendly all the time. The toilets were clean. We visited it on a Saturday and we didn’t need a reservation.

Food was very tasty, although quite expensive compared to other restaurants. The service was okay, but took a little getting used to.

Unpleasant shop, As we all know, first impressions count. And here I personally was not impressed. A very unmotivated service where you can tell they don't care about people who aren't like-minded. We had a white wine and a banana wheat. The white wine tasted extremely stale and at a price of €8 you can probably expect more. And the banana wheat didn't make it any better. Maybe I'm too biased, but how can you not offer debit card payments?!

We ate there as a couple on January 1st, 2025. My Pizza Vegetaria was extremely tasty. Service super attentive. Very pleasant stay.

The pizza base was undercooked, when I asked if it could be put in the oven, the waiter indicated that the edges would then burn. A bit of a strange story and in any case I would rather have a crispy crust than an undercooked base. Pizza almost made you think it came from the freezer. Pasta with gorgonzola just fine, nothing special but great in taste. Other pasta was a bit bland and had corn in it, a bit of a crazy twist for an Italian. Service was fine and food arrived after 35 minutes. Atmosphere is also nice.

We planned to guest with 6 people (including 2 children) and were seated at a table near the door where it was very cold. When we politely asked for another table (even though there were many seats available), the staff rudely refused. Instead we were told we could pay for the drinks and leave if we didn't like the place. We've never experienced anything like this before. In the end we paid and left. Very disappointing, especially because of the rude nature of the staff. We won't be coming back.
