Went to lunch. Delicious and quite reasonably priced.

Good and plentiful food. Simple decor. Friendly staff.

Service was fast, and the food came quickly, but that's hardly surprising considering the ready-made tuna pizza and a baked potato with salad and turkey. I didn't like the sour cream; it smelled strange and tasted slightly vinegary and sour, as if it had mayo mixed in. The salad dressing seemed to be ready-made cocktail sauce. Inappropriate! The turkey pieces were very dry. A shame!

I was there today for lunch with my wife and in-laws. We ate the following: 1x Jägerschnitzel, 1x Turkey Steak Argentina, and 2x Madagascar Steak plates, each with fried potatoes (simply amazing). All I can say is, after almost seven hours, I'm still licking my fingers 😋 The food is some of the best I've ever eaten. Dieter Bohlen would say...MEEEGAAAAA 👍👍👍 The chef knows his craft, top-notch. The service is very friendly... and most importantly, it fills you up 😁. If we ever pass through Ratzeburg again, no matter when, we'll definitely STOP at this restaurant. Anyone who wants good food has to come here.

I've never been served such bad food. Leberkäse from the deep fryer, fried potatoes swimming in fat, dumplings that were still raw and cold inside. No thanks. However, when we complained, the bill was halved.

We had a delicious pizza here on the market square; the second one was seasoned to our liking with chili, garlic, and olives. Very tasty. Great service, a very varied menu, and the place was buzzing on a Saturday evening.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Lavastein. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were generous, and the service was friendly. However, the outdoor area can get quite noisy, as it's located right on the main road.

Definitely highly recommended. Price, value, taste, and service... everything is perfect. Decorated with attention to detail. Unfortunately, when it's full, it gets a bit unpleasantly loud, which the decor doesn't dampen. But you quickly forget that over the delicious food.

The restaurant is quite large, and you can also comfortably sit outside. The interior is decorated more like a pub-restaurant and is very casual, which we like. We had beef fillet with herb butter, garlic and herb bread, and fried potatoes or vegetables. Everything was delicious, the beef fillet with a fine crust and perfectly grilled. The chef knows what he's doing. The service staff was very friendly and attentive.

This restaurant has no name recognition. The decor is a bit bland, and the food is mediocre. The waitress was quick and attentive, which was quite pleasant.

We visited the café with a friend and two teenagers. We were in a good mood because we were celebrating a birthday – on July 28, 2025. At first, everything was fine: We got a table and the menu. Unfortunately, the mood quickly deteriorated because the waiter wasn't very friendly. He corrected our words and made us feel unwelcome. It was unpleasant. When we asked for the menu again after dinner, he asked, "Why?" – which felt rude. When we asked for a lighter for the birthday candle, he simply replied, "I don't smoke" – without offering any help. Perhaps they could have found one at the bar? That was a shame, because we had been looking forward to the evening. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing.

The service was friendly and efficient and we didn't wait long for either our drinks or our food. The latter wasn't worth the wait either, this place is on the edge of a tourist trap and cannot be recommended.

Simple dishes poorly prepared. Canned mushrooms, ready-made sauces, the deep fryer running at full speed. Friendly but uninterested staff. A rest stop feel. A shame, the location is actually great.

The restaurant selection in Ratzeburg is questionable – but at Lavastein, you can still find something decent for a reasonable price. I was a bit surprised by the mozzarella salad – I was expecting a proper salad – but the taste was convincing. My partner was also happy with his potato.

Completely satisfied – a truly feel-good experience! We were completely thrilled: The staff was extremely friendly and attentive, the ambiance very harmonious and pleasant – perfect for a quiet conversation. The background noise was pleasantly quiet, so we felt truly at home. Our food arrived pleasantly quickly, the portions were generous, and the taste was absolutely delicious. We would also like to particularly emphasize the excellent value for money – everything is just right here. A place we are happy to recommend and will certainly not be visiting again!

Some of the food was ok - however, the pizza was a ready-made pizza from the frozen food store and when we asked if the rest should be packed up and it wasn't that good, the waiter's brief reply was that it was a matter of taste... Well, that's not acceptable at all!

Today's meal, a roll with potatoes and a schnitzel with bratkartoffeln. Schnitzel and bratkartoffeln tasted the same, old cooking fat. The smell when I passed the kitchen smelled, just that, crap cooking fat

The food is rather average, but there's something for everyone. The service is friendly and the location is good. It's truly perfect for a lunch break or a quick dinner.

The forester's steak was great.

The food tasted okay, but nothing special. The setting was relatively relaxed and quiet. Unfortunately, the service wasn't that great… at least for us. Our server seemed listless, lacked real communication, and wasn't very friendly. All in all, it was okay, but it was our last visit.

We enjoyed two delicious meals here during a short vacation in Ratzeburg, with friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. We'd be happy to come back on our next visit. :-)

Extremely unfriendly staff. The food was greasy. I had a spinach and Gorgonzola pizza, and it had so much garlic on it. It came in slices and with garlic oil. I returned it and got it back exactly the same, with a slice of garlic and garlic oil. They didn't offer any kind of consideration when paying. And I still had to pay the full price.

We were here because we were spending a weekend at Lake Salem. We cycled through Ratzeburg on the way. Then we found this restaurant. The service was very polite. The food came quite quickly. We only had a few drinks and a small meal.

The quality has declined considerably for some time now, and the price-performance ratio is unfortunately no longer right...

The best restaurant in Ratzeburg; we've been coming here for years. The work is absolutely professional and efficient. The staff often work up to 11 hours a day and are still always friendly. Unfortunately, there are no cocktails; you stick to what you can do. It speaks for itself... Still, a bit of a shame...

The food and everything around it is really great.

All in all, it's decent; the ambiance, I think, is from the late 70s. The selection of dishes is more than sufficient; sometimes less would be more. I ordered rice as a side dish, which wasn't mushy, but was very dry. It was accompanied by a pork schnitzel breaded with coconut and a sweet pineapple sauce. It was okay.

Our group of 20 people only had to wait about 40 minutes for the food. Very prompt! The rump steak was delicious. The fish with fried potatoes was also great! Unfortunately, they were out of asparagus that day.

Ich kann das Restaurant nicht empfehlen. Wir haben dort ein Steck Gericht gegessen, die Bratkartoffeln schwammen in Fett und in den Zwiebeln hab ich eine Ecke vom Tetra Pak gefunden, als ich den Ober darauf hingewiesen hab gab es eine Entschuldigung mit dem Hinweis, die Reinigungs Kräfte hätten schuld.

I've rarely eaten such good meat. Very tasty. The waiter was very nice. Definitely recommended. If there were six stars, I would have given it seven.

Highly recommended if you like ribeye steaks. It's quick, even when it's well-filled.

Because there are hardly any alternatives in Ratzeburg, this is the place of choice at the Ratzeburg market square. The food is perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. Given the prices, you could certainly expect more and a higher quality gastronomic offer. But because the waitresses are always incredibly nice and accommodating, it's easy to stay in Lavastein and watch the hustle and bustle on the market square. There's not much else to do here, and that's absolutely meant in a positive sense.

First of all: We like to eat out often. 😊 We spontaneously went to Ratzeburg today and thought the “best house on the square”, or the only restaurant on the market square, would offer decent food. Far from it! The bruschetta didn't taste good at all, I can easily do it better at home, my husband's currywurst was just fine and our daughter's nuggets were the worst cheap product. Once and never again! The cherry on top was that the waiter forgot the ice cream that came with our daughter's dish and came to the table with the bill without being asked.

Nowadays the prices are steep, but the pizza is very, very tasty. Spinach is always my favorite, never disappointed. The salads are also good, often there are some small rolls with a delicious sauce beforehand. Location great. Staff always friendly.

We were there for breakfast. Food was ok, but nothing beyond that. Service only comes when called and doesn't ask if anything is missing/drinks etc. The ambience is a bit cold and loveless. Maybe better in the evening or outside when you can't see the flaws. Slightly musty smell. With goodwill 3 stars instead of 2.

I really liked it. I would go there again and again.

So far everything is good there. The food was tasty, even if it was a bit too greasy for my taste, but as we all know, tastes are different. The paths to the tables are a bit narrow when you come in and sit on the gallery on the left, you have to pass the tables on the left and right. And if someone sits at the table on the left a little further away from the table, it's really difficult. You can't get past it with two people. If someone comes towards you, e.g. you have to go back to the waiter. Otherwise pretty good there.

My recommendation! Great perfectly grilled steak with baked potatoes. Wonderful. The service staff was very attentive and friendly. I would go there again if it wasn't so far away. 100 km, visiting friend. 7 out of 5 stars.
