Great location. You can sit in the shade, wonderfully cool, despite the almost 30-degree heat. Clean tables and comfortable chairs. Very friendly service, which isn't always the case these days. We really enjoyed the food: potato gratin with potato sausage and Tyrolean roast. The side salad was also beautifully prepared and delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant.

The chef seemed to be absent. There was still food. Gratin with potato sausage. I've eaten there before in Alsfeld, but unfortunately, I didn't have anything to eat. Everything was too dry and smothered with cheese. My tip: You can buy potato sausage in Alsfeld. The beer and Williams were excellent.

Very nice and potato dishes well interpreted

The restaurant is visually appealing, but the food leaves a lot to be desired... Tyrolean Gröstl, the recommendation of the day was a sea bream with a lot of bones, and my meal was a pork roll with Balkan sauce... the roll was covered in a thick, very hard-fried breading, the sauce consisted of mayo with a few slices of cucumber. The taste was nonexistent... only the side salad was okay. The prices are completely out of proportion, in my opinion!!!!! Sorry...

Great restaurant with lots of potato dishes or even a delicious sea bream.

We were there a few years ago and were very satisfied, but now, unfortunately, it's not what it used to be. The atmosphere is very nice, but unfortunately, the food isn't as good anymore. The food is either swimming in grease or is frozen, and that's how it tastes. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes are boiled rather than fried, and the potato pancakes are frozen. The tables are wiped with a wet sponge, not a dry one.

Very tasty food. The unique selling point for Alsfeld is the Kumpir, which is very tasty and highly recommended. The salad is also highly recommended; very fresh and delicious. Large portions, above all. Gladly. Again.

We stopped in quite spontaneously after a trip in the area. I had previously glanced at the (as we now know, outdated) menu on Google and seen a few pictures, but that was all I could do in such a short time. The largely positive reviews promised a pleasant end to our day. Unfortunately, that was absolutely not the case. The only positive things to note were the beautiful ambiance of this traditional restaurant and the truly friendly and attentive service. But that was it. The food was a disaster. The only thing that was appetizing was the presentation. The 'potato pancakes' – rösti from the freezer, served with enough cinnamon and sugar to bake an entire cake, but with barely any apple sauce. The potato spaetzle were spaetzle from a packet and not even properly cooked, prepared like at the snack bar around the corner. The fried potatoes were at best waving to the frying pan. They were more like slices of boiled potatoes tossed in oil, poorly seasoned. A million miles away from a Gröstl (a kind of German salad). The salad seemed barely washed and crunched with every bite. I've rarely eaten something so bad, and so expensive, too. Perhaps they should consider only cooking what they can and enjoy. It was a huge disappointment. If my lovely companion hadn't been so hungry, I probably would have returned the whole thing. It's such a shame; we were so looking forward to it. By the way, the pictures of the old menu should definitely be removed from Google; the current restaurant has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I ordered the "Alsfeld Paving Stones" (pork medallions with fried potatoes, mixed vegetables, and Madaira sauce). I got fried potatoes with onions, nicely presented in a pan, which were edible, mixed vegetables that were almost frozen, and a watery gravy that had no bearing on a sauce and had never tasted Madaira. The worst, however, was the pork medallion: of the four pieces of meat, three were irregularly cut, only one of which was a medallion. All four were absolutely cooked to death, and you could have played drums on them with a knife. They were truly cobblestones. Absolutely inedible. By the way: the service team didn't address my complaint and used a veranda table as a smoking area, so the smoke was transferred to the two or three adjacent tables. Overall, absolutely not recommended!!

We received a warm and friendly welcome. The service was friendly, prompt, and very attentive. We felt at home there, in the beer garden right behind the old town hall. The food portions were generous and filling. The food tasted very good. The price/performance ratio is still good here. We'll definitely be back again.

We read on Monday that they were only open until 8:30 p.m.! After calling, we were told we could still get food after 8 p.m., and now it's 9:30 p.m. and we're still sitting in the cozy outdoor seating area! The food is super delicious and plentiful!

The spaetzle were from a bag and undercooked. The beef tasted like fish. The salad was a bit soggy... Still, it was halfway tasty, but we won't be coming back. The portions were relatively small... The service was very friendly, but you could tell they were just temporary staff.

We've rarely eaten so well outside. Very friendly service, no long waits. The price/performance ratio was completely satisfactory. Child-friendly. My family and I can only warmly recommend this restaurant. The outdoor area is lovely. We'll definitely stop by here again for dinner on our next vacation.

I recently ate here with a friend. It was busy, but the staff still made sure we got a table. Despite the busyness, the staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and attentive. The salad we ordered was fresh and crisp. The meat in the Tyrolean Gröstl was juicy and tender. My friend had the potato soup, which was perfectly tempered and delicious. Conclusion: Fresh variety and traditional dishes, competent staff, and a cozy atmosphere. Kudos to the Kartoffelsack team, we'll be back!

On my second visit to the restaurant, I was invited to a birthday dinner at Kartoffelsack. My enthusiasm for the restaurant was definitely confirmed. I was already impressed by the Alsfeld pan on my first visit; the meat was of high quality and beautifully presented. The team was harmonious and accommodating. On my second visit, I had the spare ribs, which were very juicy and well-seasoned. The BBQ sauce was amazing, and the fried potatoes were traditionally prepared. You could tell the food was freshly prepared. The service staff were very friendly and the chefs were very welcoming; we felt extremely comfortable. We will definitely be back!

We came here for lunch with a group of 20 women. We had made a reservation in advance and received a menu. The food was announced over the phone in the morning. Because we had pre-selected the dishes, service was prompt, with no wait. The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was friendly and prompt. Great location and large terrace. We were at Kartoffelsack in Alsfeld today. We were very satisfied with the service and the food we ordered. The food was well presented and delicious. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. The price/performance ratio was family-friendly. We can only recommend it.

This was our second time eating here. Unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing this time. We had to wait a long time for two dishes, even though it wasn't very busy. The baked potato was very dry, and the pulled pork was okay. No one asked if we wanted anything else to drink. There were plenty of staff, though. Perhaps they didn't want to make a profit.

We stopped here on our way to Frankfurt. The food and value for money were decent. The restaurant is located in the beautiful old town center, and there's also outdoor seating.

Unfortunately, extremely disappointing! I had the salmon fillet (just under €23) with boiled potatoes and “garden vegetables”. Unfortunately the poor fish died twice - very dry. The boiled potatoes were half raw and not very salty. The garden vegetables appeared to be frozen goods (carrots, broccoli and cauliflower), cooked in water - without any spice or bite. Why can't you serve fresh vegetables (especially in summer) tossed in a pan with a little butter and fresh herbs? My husband had a schnitzel with fries. The latter were also frozen ready-made products, which is an embarrassing no-go given the restaurant name. Conclusion: An absolute failure.

There were 2 of us and I had the rump steak. It was cut with the fibers making it very tough. Of course I gave it back. Like my companion, I also chose the pork medallions. The meat was good, even if it was a little too done. Unfortunately, like my companion, the fried potatoes were very salty. The potato sack beer is very drinkable but I wouldn't come here again to eat. And unfortunately the sauce was also made with the famous powder. The boss wasn't willing to remove the over-salted fried potatoes from the bill either The service from the two employees was great because you can't help a bad cook.

Their schnapps, which has been aged for a long time in barrels, is really something very special and with the dark chocolate it is a wonderful experience. Have a cyclist warm us And a Benedictine Hell ordered underground stale and somehow broken couldn't drink it. When I asked, it tasted like that. A short time later we heard whether the beer was cold again? So now to eat the onion schnitzel is frozen food, some of the onions were still raw and the fries were like rubber. The oil was probably not hot. Now to the potatoes and cheese spaetzle. Were spaetzle with cream sauce gratinated with cheese and onions. Do you know the dish differently and with potatoes and cheese spaetzle on the menu? The salad was OK. We enjoy going out to eat. Unfortunately, I can say with regret that I won't be coming back. Were in Alsfeld and were hungry. From the outside we weren't so convinced, but we thought "not much could go wrong with a gratinated potato." So if you can, eat a little something and then go out for a real meal in the evening. The kitchen was open all day, so go in there. And as soon as you walked in, the great and appropriate ambience left a deep impression. And then the great young lady at the entrance. Nice, friendly and service-oriented. We walked past another table where we were already eating and immediately changed our minds. Not an emergency snack but the main meal. We will never regret this decision. Great compensation, top quality and large portions. In the price-performance comparison, the performance clearly wins. An insider tip for us. A clear thank you to the operator and his staff

We had a great dinner at this restaurant which is located in the heart of Asfeld little town. The quality of food was very good and so was the service. We were also highly impressed at how clean the whole place was. I would totally recommend this place.

The positive reviews are most likely from friends or purchased. -------- We were almost alone (2 other people who had already had their food). Unfortunately we still had to wait a long time before we could order. The meal took a very long time. The schnitzel was a ready-made frozen schnitzel and no longer smelled good. I didn't finish it and I'm still disgusted. The fries were also frozen and not tasty. There was nothing else on the plate except a tiny salad. Not even sauce. My wife had salmon with potatoes. The salmon was also ready-made. The potatoes may have been homemade. The vegetables were frozen. Everything was bland with no taste. We basically left everything on our plate. We then sat around and no one was in sight. We wanted to pay. I had to look for the waitress and ask her to finally come and collect the money. We were the only guests at the time. Almost 50€ for 2 drinks and what you can't call food and what was cheap stuff from the freezer. The waitress asked if she should pack something. As always when we are out and about in Alsfeld, we had dinner in the potato sack again today. The food was again excellent, as always everything was freshly prepared and simply great. My girlfriend had the vegan Kumpir and I had my favorite dish, the Championrahmeschnitzel with fries. Both were unbeatable again. The service girls are always nice and friendly and very accommodating. It is and will definitely remain our favorite restaurant.

Unfortunately it's not at all what it used to be! 😭 We were not greeted warmly. But what bothered us most was that the specialist staff, three of whom stood at the counter, talked loudly in Eastern European (?) and were constantly on their cell phones even though the restaurant was completely full. Sorry, that's an absolute no go! I come from the catering industry myself and that simply doesn't make a good impression on the guests. You had the feeling of sitting in a bar. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as we remembered. The schnitzel reminded me of TK, as many other reviewers have already written. It's a shame, there's still a lot of room for improvement! A typically good inn with a very good selection of German cuisine. I had a wonderfully tasty beef roulade with two potato curds and red cabbage. That was very tasty! The service was very attentive and I was able to sit wherever I wanted at a large table even though I was alone. I thought that was very nice! On a Tuesday evening the house was very busy, which speaks for the quality of the food and drinks. I walked back to the hotel feeling fed up. Next time I'll be happy to come back to the potato sack!

I grudgingly gave it 4 stars because we were in vacation mode. The older waitress couldn't really bring herself to say kind words or smile. The presumed daughter, however, was very friendly. The food, for me steak with bacon and mashed potatoes, was good. However, the steak was too dry. Ambience: Way too much light! LED lights that were on the table were not turned on at all, but would probably have been sufficient without ceiling lights. Take it as a kind hint. Everyone has a bad day sometimes. On the way south, five of us visited the potato sack. We all chose quite different dishes. Both the baked potato and the gnocchi as well as the potato gratin, the potato meatballs and the salad were all very tasty. We all also really enjoyed the cellar beer and the apple cider. Service was also good. The potato sack is a clear recommendation for anyone who ends up in Alsfeld and craves potato dishes

That was absolutely delicious. The Alsfeld pan with a 270g pork neck steak with homemade mashed potatoes, braised onions with lots of delicious bacon cubes was an absolute culinary delight. Top seasoned. According to the owner, who was an excellent host, there was a naturally cloudy cellar beer made especially for the restaurant from a Duisburg brewery. Yummy friends. We will definitely be happy to come back at Christmas for mulled wine and all the rest. The entire staff also did a great job. The village bull and the woman from the LDK say thank you🎉🖖🎊

A nice place in the old town. The tables are placed on a platform, so access with a wheelchair is difficult. The broth we ordered was of little essence, served with grated carrot and dumplings, probably made from groats, the soup had little seasoning, but that's a matter of taste. Personally, I think that it is not associated with the broths we are used to and I would not recommend it. Secondly, beef steak - medium rare, with fries and a mini salad. The fried fries smelled nice, but the steak... hmmm... the meat was dry and hard, tasteless, with a rubbery consistency. Bad part and he hasn't rested yet. I don't recommend it.
