Immer wieder schön hier zu sein. Das Essen schmeckt einfach fantastisch und das Personal ist auch sehr freundlich.

Der Wahnsinn. Hier stimmt alles. Wir fühlten uns als Gäste, nicht wie im Restaurant mit gutem Service sondern wurden von der Gastgeberin begrüßt und durch den Abend begleitet. Das 6 Gänge Menü kann mit 5 Sternen gar nicht ausreichend gelobt werden, dazu der hervorragende Wein, das Ambiente, der Blick ... Nicht billig aber jeden Euro wert. Vielen Dank an die Gastgeber!

Einfach super. Wir sind mittags dagewesen, magisch angezogen von der Dachterrasse. Obwohl wir dann merkten, was für ein Restaurant das Johann's ist (wir waren von der Anreise aus SH ziemlich abgekämpft und sicher nicht adäquat angezogen), wurden wir freundlich empfangen und auch später genauso bedient. Wir hatten Ripperl und Tatar, frisches kühles Bier dazu - alles über jeden Zweifel erhaben. Tolles Restaurant.

Ein klare Empfehlung! Hervorragende Sterne-Küche, zuvorkommender, höchst freundlicher Service durch versierte Mitarbeiter und ein gelungenes Ambiente - im Sommer von der Terrasse aus mit herrlichem Blick auf den Bayerischen Wald. Eine wunderbare Weinkarte, Essen zubereitet mit regionalen Zutaten und saisonal angepasst. Zugegeben nicht ganz preiswert aber seinen Preis definitiv wert. Sehr gerne immer wieder. Update April 2026: Nach wie vor wunderbares Restaurant unter ausgezeichneter Leitung. Exzellente Küche, die einen auch nach vielen Besuchen immer wieder auf das Angenehmste überrascht. Auch der Service ist gleichbleibend hervorragend, unaufdringlich und sehr freundlich - eine klare Empfehlung für schöne Stunden.

Ein sensationeller Blick erwartet einen sowohl drinnen wie draußen. Schneller, charmanter und kompetenter Service. Die Karte bietet für jede Zielgruppe etwas und das Essen ist optisch, qualitativ und geschmacklich auf einem Topniveau. Die Portionen sind üppig, so dass man insgesamt ein herausragendes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis hat. Hier kann es sich wirklich jeder leisten mal ein 1 Michelin Sternerestaurant auszuprobieren, man wird förmlich „an die Hand genommen“, bereut nichts. Sehr zu empfehlen ist dabei das 3 Gang Mittagsmenü für 49 €. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Tolle Aussicht, super netter Service und sehr gutes Essen. Einziges Manko, das Schnitzel ist sehr nackt, deshalb fragte der Kellner ob wir Gemüse oder Salat möchten, den Salat orderten wir, aber diesen noch mit 9 € zu berechnen war schon sehr viel. Als Gäste im Restaurant Johanns haben wir uns rundum wohlgefühlt. Alle waren überaus freundlich. Selbst Kleinigkeiten fielen dem Servicepersonal sofort auf und es wurde sich ohne Umschweife gekümmert. Das Menü (Valentinsmenü), für das wir uns entschieden hatten, schmeckte hervorragend. Jeder Gang war ins sich absolut stimmig. Eine Weinbegleitung wollten wir nicht. Der alkoholfreie Aperitif der gereicht wurde, war wirklich gut. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Wir waren hier am Valentinstag und haben ein extra hierfür erstelltes "Valentinstags"-Menü genossen. Das Essen geschmacklich sowie optisch auf höchstem Niveau sowie der sehr zuvorkommende Service und das tolle Ambiente runden einen wunderbaren Abend ideal ab. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Ein MICHELIN Stern ist einen Stopp wert, so heißt es.....beim Johanns kann man aber auch gerne mal einen Umweg in Kauf nehmen 😉(☆☆)! Regionale Produkte auf einem absoluten Spitzenniveau zubereitet und geschmacklich sensationell!! Auch die Weinbegleitungen, sowohl alkoholisch wie auch alkoholfrei, sind absolut stimmig!

Lieb gewonnene Genusstradition: zum Jahresendhochgenuss ins Restaurant Johanns. Und wieder einmal wurden unsere eh schon hohen Erwartungen übertroffen. Michael Reis und sein Küchenteam zauberten ein Menü der absoluten Spitzenklasse mit vielen Wohlfühlmomenten, dazu zelebrierte Denise Ebertshäuser eine überragende Weinbegleitung und das tolle Serviceteam ist doch eh zum Verlieben 😍 Ganz lieben Dank an das gesamte Team für diesen wieder einmal wunderbaren Wohlfühlgenussabend!! Wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Besuch!

Fantastisches Essen, super freundliche und aufmerksame Angestellte, tolles Ambiente - gerne wieder.

Ich war gestern mit zwei Freuden zum Mittagessen im Johanns. Wir haben unser Menu a la carte gewählt und um eine Weinbegleitung gebeten. Die Qualität des Essens war, wie meine Freunde meinten. der reinste Gaumenschmaus. Übertroffen wurde dies aber noch von der exzellenten , auf den jeweiligen Gang abgestimmten Weinauswahl. Auch wenn man selber meint man kennt sich mit Weinen schon ganz gut aus, wurden wir überrascht und haben jeden unterschiedlichen Wein genossen. Großes Kompliment auch an den Service. Die unaufgeregte entspannte zeitliche Ablauffolge des Menus war genau richtig. Wir werden gerne wiederkommen.

Hoch oben im bayrischen Wald! Der Slogan stimmt in der Tat. Eine Sterneküche im (auf) einem Modehaus? Ja es funktioniert ganz prima. Freundlicher und zuvorkommender Service in etwas kühlem Ambiente. Toller Ausblick (auf der Terrasse umso mehr) auf den Bayerwald. Etwas rustikale Kreationen aber durchaus mit Geschmack - wenn auch wie so oft in der *Küche, es etwas an Würze mangelt. Fazit: Schöne Weinbegleitung, tolles Essen, ein rundum gelungener Abend zum guten Kurs.

Where to start? The food, the ambience, the service? This is impossible to say. It’s all just incredibly good 😊 The ambience is neat and simple and combines a modern interior design with an open view into the kitchen and out through the windows on the Bayrischer Wald. The service is always at your side, funny, knowledgeable and attentive. Finally, the food, is one of a kind. The sauces… 😋. I mean even writing these lines are mouthwatering Keep on doing what you’re doing! Bravo

Hello! Cool location, great food, confusing parking garage. August 12, 2025, I invited my Lower Bavarian culinary friends to lunch at Johann's. Great location! Round tables inside, thumbs up. The four of us were allowed to sit outside when angels go out to eat. Starter: Ox tartare, amazing taste, although I prefer hand-carved...many roads lead to Lower Bavaria, the main thing is taste, and it was amazing. Main course: Gockel, amazing main course with the sides...but, wrong sauce!!! Had the same mustard-based sauce as my neighbor to the left. Tasted amazing, that's what counts! Dessert: Snickers...a revelation...don't know if anyone tried to crack the "peanut"...? Dear Schmackofatz, I highly recommend lunch at Johann's, and I'd also like to point out the great value for money! I'd love to come back with the Schätzlhof crew! Thanks to the kitchen, the service and to J.J.Prüm, for the best "peach" slap in 0.1 ever...I have the honor

Always worth a visit! Great ambiance and delicious food! The price is more than reasonable for the quality and a Michelin star. The dishes, featuring many regional ingredients, are always an interesting and inspiring experience! In short, a visit is simply enjoyable and highly recommended!

We visited Johanns for the first time during the week. We did a quick shopping trip to Garhammer and then enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the restaurant (with direct access from Garhammer). We made an online reservation and got a nice table (unfortunately, the weather was bad, so we couldn't sit on the terrace, but the view would have been lovely). We ordered the daily menu (3 courses for €49), along with a beef tartare (large, €21), the Wiener Schnitzel made from local straw-fed pork (€24), a light beer (€4.80), an aperitif (€9), a bottle of water (€7.90), and two espressos (€6.80). The service was professional and friendly, but that's to be expected at a Michelin-starred restaurant. We started with bread and a spread as a welcome from the kitchen (a nice start), followed by the soup and the tartare. The soup was good, as was the tartar, but overall there were no particular highlights. The white layer of the tartar (airy buttermilk???) was definitely too thick and distracted from the main flavor of the tartar. The schnitzel was solid, but rather standard, and the farmer's chicken with asparagus and jus was good, but for a one-star restaurant according to the Michelin Guide, I would expect more depth. The "Snickers" dessert, on the other hand, was amazing and the absolute highlight. If we compare it with other restaurants (Schärding / Passau / Schwarzhöring / Haag / Hauzenberg / Aldersbach) currently listed in the Michelin Guide, we unfortunately have to say that we've had better dining experiences recently, but the food was still solid. The prices aren't worth discussing – for good, regional products, the price can sometimes be higher.

This restaurant is very nice, and the food is excellent. We had a four-course meal. The service is very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is very pleasant. It's great for special occasions, but also expensive.

All around great! Feel-good atmosphere, spacious area, large round tables, fantastic views, best service, fully glazed kitchen (!), uniquely honest service: we were advised to order less, which was absolutely right. The look and especially the taste of the food and drinks are amazing, free parking directly opposite. A very good price/performance ratio for this level. Conclusion: It couldn't be better.

Wir waren einfach nur begeistert, sowohl das Essen, das toll serviert wurde, unser Highlight waren die Steinpilztorellini in einem angewärmten Steinteller, als auch der nette und freundliche Service haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Preis/Leistung für Speisen in dieser hervorragenden Qualität einfach nur TOP. Das Flanksteak war einfach nur mega, superzart, der Preis hierfür hat uns überrascht, denn mit Beilagen, Salat und BBQ-Jus für 49€, dafür zahlt man anderswo das Doppelte und bekommt nicht annähernd solche Qualität. Und keine Angst, hier wird man definitiv satt! Wir schwärmen noch heute von diesem wundervollen Abend, den reibungslosen Ablauf im Restaurant. After the shopping experience comes the culinary and little “vacation for the eyes” with a view over the Bavarian Forest for the soul. The 3-course lunch menu was a real culinary delight and surprisingly low in price for a star restaurant. Unfortunately, our journey is too far, otherwise this restaurant would have potential as a regular.

Today, I had the pleasure of indulging in a midday feast at this local gem with my mother, and wow, were we both enchanted! From the moment we arrived, the friendly service set a splendid tone for our culinary journey. Seated on a terrace that offered a mesmerizing view, we began with a delectable dip accompanied by fresh bread. The bell pepper soup served as an excellent starter, elegantly paving the way for the main event. The pike-perch that followed was buttery soft, enhanced by a delightful sauce and paired perfectly with a glass of crisp Riesling. However, the real showstopper was the main course: tender veal with chanterelles and an incredibly good sweet braided bread. The Merlot recommended by the staff was an exceptional choice that beautifully complemented this dish, enhancing the flavors even further. Dessert was no less spectacular—a Tonka bean concoction that was both a feast for the eyes and the palate. The value for money was truly impressive, a rarity at this level of culinary excellence. Safe to say, we’ll definitely be returning to relive this exquisite lunch experience. Here’s to a meal that’s hard to top!

For years, Johanns was considered one of the region's culinary stars, and its one-star award was absolutely deserved! As regular guests, we always had the highest expectations - expectations that have never been disappointed. But our most recent visit a few months ago left us with a bitter aftertaste that raised many questions. A telephone reservation in which a colleague's nut and milk allergy was explicitly pointed out initially seemed problem-free. It was all the more astonishing that we encountered significant communication problems on site. The waitress was uncooperative and rather annoyed. She simply referred our colleague to the menu to find out for himself what was suitable for him. Since we don't know from the menu how individual dishes are prepared, that's actually quite absurd. In a restaurant of this class, you can expect that the details of the preparation of all dishes are not only known, but also actively communicated upon request. Instead, there was an irritating indifference. After repeated inquiries on our part, we were finally assured that a menu would be possible even with these restrictions. But what followed was a series of courses in which ingredients were repeatedly removed but no alternatives were offered. The highlight of this unprofessional performance was undoubtedly the dessert, which, contrary to all warnings, contained milk. Our colleague had to discover this himself after the allergy set in. A faux pas that is simply unacceptable in an establishment decorated with a star and, depending on the severity of the allergy, can turn out very badly. These were the experiences of the colleague with allergies. But it didn't just stop there. A port wine ordered with a course was simply forgotten and only offered afterwards after the course was over. The crowning conclusion was a 45-minute wait for dessert, after the previously ordered espresso had been served after just 5 minutes. Without question: Johann's cuisine remains at a high level, with great craftsmanship. But a restaurant of this class is not only measured by its culinary performance, but also by the quality of the service. And to our regret, this failed completely on this visit. Such serious deficiencies in a Michelin-starred restaurant are not only disappointing, they are simply inexcusable. We hope that Johanns takes this feedback seriously and gets back to its usual form.

At the weekend we stopped for lunch in Waldrkirchen at Johanns restaurant which is on the roof of the shopping centre. This Michelin-starred restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Can't think of a place with excellent courses, sufficient wine selection. We chose the tasting menu, but it is possible to order individual courses separately. Service very nice prompt and fast. If you are in Waldkirchen, I recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner, the food is really worth it.

On the occasion of the 65th birthday, it was supposed to be something other than onion roast or cordon bleu and since we had taken a short vacation in Wegscheid, we chose the Johanns restaurant and the 5-course menu on offer. You wouldn't believe what they do with food here. I have had some of the foods included in the menu several times. Lamb is no more foreign to me than suckling pig or spinach or raviolo. But the way things are prepared here and how these things taste is sensational. If I hadn't read on the menu that it was spinach, I really would have had to ask. But it wasn't just the food that convinced us. The entire ambience, the unobtrusive friendliness of the service. Everything is indescribably great. It certainly wasn't our last visit. Johanns second: In advance. It was sensational again. This time it wasn't supposed to be the menu, but a la carte. At the start there was blood sausage bread from the house and various bread from a nearby bakery. There was also porcini mushroom butter. A great start. As a starter I had beef tartare from the alpine ox. This came with pointed peppers, whipped ricotta and toasted bread. Afterwards there was a Wagyu prime rib steak from Dox-Hof in Teisnach/Lower Bavaria. A dream. By far the best piece of meat I have ever eaten. There was also a BBQ jus, summer truffle povese, braised onions, Pimientos de Patron and Johanns Caesar's salad. This was followed by curdled mango lassi with airy coconut, passion fruit-Kalamansi sorbet and sesame granola. In summary, all I can say is that the food was perfection. Paired with excellent service and wonderfully inspiring background music. We just felt comfortable.

We were there several times and were not disappointed with the food. The June menu is once again a revelation and full of taste surprises. Particularly worth mentioning are the trout, cooked on the salt stone and garnished with pickled wild garlic flowers, as well as the veal back with a sauce to eat. It was again a special feast for the eyes and the palate. This time there is a small deduction for the service. My companion ordered a main course à la carte and had to watch me eat for over an hour before it was served. You could have asked every now and then whether it was appropriate or offered a greeting from the kitchen. At least wine was always refilled quickly.

Simply an incredible experience. Quality food, informal but impeccable service and unbeatable views. The lunchtime menu is highly recommended, delicious bread with a spread and three magnificent dishes with which you will leave totally satisfied for a very competitive price. It is very worth going.

Wir hatten zum Mittagessen über Fork reserviert.Es war wirklich sehr, sehr gut.Wir hatten das Menü, einmal mit alkoholfreier und einmal mit alkoholischer Weinbegleitung.Das Ambiente war angenehm und gemütlich, die Angestellten sehr nett und freundlich, wie man es sich wünscht. Das Essen ist regional und der Jahreszeit angepasst, wartet aber mit überraschenden und vielfältigen Geschmacksnuancen auf, das ist das Markenzeichen des Johanns. Wir waren restlos zufrieden, der Preis ist der Leistung sehr angemessen, für ein Sternerestaurant fast günstig. Bis bald wieder.

If you are in Waldkirchen, a visit to Johann is a must. Unbeatable value for money for a top restaurant. It's a small restaurant on the top floor of Garhammer - with a nice view from the terrace. We made a reservation there for lunch and had, among other things, liver, sturgeon, oxen (schnitzel for our little one) and it was excellent. Only regional products with introductions from the suppliers and an excellent price. 5 star plus! Service was also very courteous and implemented every request. Parking in the Garhammer parking garage (free) is also no problem. Therefore again at any time!

Very tasty food and beautiful presentation. The staff is friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is modern and appealing. The Wagyu entrecôte is a clear recommendation, I have never eaten such tender meat anywhere, it literally melts in your mouth! All in all, it was a very successful evening for us; at times we couldn't help but be amazed and were really speechless. The prices are high but completely justified and it's worth every penny! Next time we're in the area we'll definitely come back!

Always a pleasure. The only thing that could possibly be improved...The terrace seems a little neglected. Remove pollen from the table and chairs...and if necessary a little flower decoration...The overall impression would be perfect ;-)

Great cuisine, the food is incredibly good, very great and friendly service, the ambience is fantastic, the sunset in the restaurant is very beautiful and an unforgettable experience!

The two of us had the 3-course lunch menu for the first time with a change in the main course. Nice lunch, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations and it doesn't really fill you up. A slice of meat weighing about 50-75 grams, a side dish of approximately the same size and some vegetables are a nice tasting option. As a woman, I find that a bit small for the main course, even if I like to have a little less than a lot. The taste was very good, but I missed something special. Maybe I need to visit the place for dinner to find what I've been missing. The service was ok, the atmosphere was beautiful.

Wir waren mit Freunden unter Woche für das Mittags-Menü gekommen und hatten reserviert. Und das war sehr gut so, denn an einem Dienstag war tatsächlich jeder Tisch besetzt. Die Atmosphäre im modernen hellen Lokal war angenehm entspannt. Im Sommer kann zusätzlich eine Terrasse mit schöner Aussicht ins Bayerische Land genutzt werden. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und angenehm ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Das Menü hat uns ausgezeichnet gemundet und das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis empfanden wir als angemessen (obwohl natürlich nicht preiswert). Wir haben uns ausnehmend wohl gefühlt und die einstündige Anfahrt nicht bereut. Wir werden mit Sicherheit wiederkommen, wenn wir wieder in der Nähe sind.

Very pleasant atmosphere with very good food. The Simmental “Dry Aged” steak was fried to perfection and was served with very tasty and unusual side dishes! Here you can find star cuisine at a fair price! A large selection of different wines in every price range round off the great overall experience!

We had a very nice and relaxing evening. A creative tasting menu with a fun amuse-bouche. Casual atmosphere and very attentive service. The wine pairing was also good, although some of the red wines were not strong enough for the dish.

We were there for dinner and had made reservations a few days in advance. In the reservation I explicitly asked for a table by the window. When we arrived we were assigned the last available seat in the middle of the room. Since I don't like having people sitting behind me, our space was very important to me. I would have expected to be informed in advance by phone if my request could not be implemented. Then we would have come at a different time or on a different day. I was quite disappointed with the ambience itself. The background noise was far too loud for me and our seats were not properly lit, so there was always a shadow on my food. The service was always friendly, but unfortunately not competent. We had questions about the drinks on offer and instead of an explanation, the answer was “You just have to try this”. I would have liked a little more knowledge of the goods. The soup came just a few minutes after the bread. The timing wasn't right at all. It was covered with the crumbs from the previous course. Incomprehensible to me as a person who has experience in gastronomy myself... The food was very tasty and all the products were of high quality.

This is the second time we've been here for a multi-course meal and we're simply thrilled! Not only the ambience on the balcony with a view of the Bavarian Forest, but also the interior is stylishly furnished and has its own charm thanks to the view of the open kitchen with all the hard-working cooks. The food was also incredibly special and very harmonious in all its components. Of course, not to forget the extremely friendly and courteous service. You always had the impression that you enjoyed being served and the breaks between courses were always very appropriate, which is very important to us personally. All in all, an incredibly great restaurant, which we recommend for a perfect and special evening, whether as a couple or in a group.

We go to Johanns every year. For us, this is, so to speak, the culinary highlight of the year. Gladly again.

Our visit to the restaurant was simply excellent. The 4-course menu impressed with a perfect balance of flavors - each course was unique and extremely tasty. The service proved to be outstanding and extremely accommodating, which further enriched our experience. The selection of main courses – eel, catfish, duck and lamb – was like a culinary poem, each dish in perfect order, a feast for the senses. Despite my preference for meat, my favorite was the composition of smoked eel, pickled Chinese cabbage, dwarf orange vinaigrette, pistachios and the floating cloud of lime leaves - an impressive vegetarian dish that exceeded my expectations. The ambience is equally magical. In contrast to many comparable restaurants, we can enjoy the hours in this calming atmosphere because there is sufficient distance from other people sitting next to us. I'm already hoping to see you again in this excellent restaurant.

Very good regional and seasonal dishes that are beautifully served. The service and drink selection is also wonderful. Staying down to earth in the best sense of the word - a star restaurant in the Woid.

Wer ins Johanns geht hat eine Garantie für einen rundum perfekten Abend. Egal zu welchem Anlass: das Essen ist hervorragend (besonders toll ist, dass aufgrund einiger klassischer Gerichte für jeden etwas dabei ist), der Service ist ebenfalls auf Sterne-Niveau und das Ambiente lädt absolut zum wohlfühlen ein (wobei die Panorama-Aussicht und die schöne Dachterasse nahezu ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal sind). Der krönende Abschluss war die Silvester-Party. Hier hat sich das Team in jeglicher Hinsicht selbst übertroffen! Besonders hervorzuheben ist außerdem das hervorragende Blutwurstbrot. Allein dafür lohnt sich die weite Anreise! Bis zum nächsten Mal :)

Essen Top - Service ist schlechter wie noch vor geraumer Zeit! Zur Küche kann ich nichts negatives sagen, alles so wie es sein soll. Ein Traum! Aber der Service war schlecht. Keine Nachfrage teilweise nach neuen Getränken. Wein musste man sich selber einschenken (damit habe ich kein Problem aber wenn ich alleine 150€ bezahle in so einem Haus, dann hat man einen anderen Anspruch). Kenne ich anders auf diesem Küchenniveau. Unser letzter Gast der ein paar Minuten später kam wurde gar nicht gefragt was er trinken möchte. Aschenbecher auf der Terrasse geht über und man muss selber etwas sagen dass dieser geleert wird, Stühle gestapelt auf der Terrasse, verwelkte Blumen dort… Kein schönes Ambiente auf der Terrasse. Zum Bezahlen sollten wir dann selber zur Theke kommen und dann schön warten bis alle fertig sind. Habe dann gesagt wie möchten gerne am Tisch bezahlen während wir noch gemütlich austrinken. Hier war die Servicekraft nicht begeistert. Die Kraft am Nebentisch wäre denke ich deutlich besser gewesen wie unsere. Ich komme seit Jahren in dieses Restaurant aber die letzten beiden Besuche haben mich ehrlich enttäuscht. Und nochmals: Das Essen ein Traum und wie gewohnt auf sehr hohem Niveau.

Bei trüben Wetter die kulinarische Linie des Johanns genießen und die Blicke über den schönen Bayerwald schweifen lassen. Vorspeise: Kürbis. Eine Schaumsuppe mit dreierlei Kürbissorten. Hauptgang: Leber. Kalbsleber, die auf der Zuge zergeht. Mit Getreideschnitte und Gemüse. Geschmack: Außergewöhnlich lecker. Etwas Süßes: Mocca: Frisch gebackener Schokoladen Kuchen mit Zwetschgen und Eis. Geschmack: Der Kuchen wird warm serviert und die Beilagen sind kleine Geschmacks Tupferl. Bitte etwas Zeit einplanen, denn das ganze wird frisch zubereitet und dann serviert. Der Service: Wie gewohnt sehr aufmerksam und professionell. Das Team gibt dem Sterneessen den richtigen Rahmen. Für mich wieder einmal ein Genuss Mittag.

Um es ganz klar zu sagen, es ist toll, dass es dieses schön ausgestattete Lokal im Bayerwald gibt. Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist sehr korrekt, die Weinkarte gut, etwas viel Österreich, naja, sehr kundenfreundlich auch die große Karte neben den Menüs. Aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, einen Stern hat es nicht wirklich verdient, die Küche ist, was man in Österreich Haubenküche nennt, 11 oder 12 Punkte im G.M. wir kommen trotzdem gern wieder

Zum widerholten Male dort gegessen und jedes Mal aufgrund von Geschmack und Kreativität in allen Belangen überrascht.

Sehr gutes Essen zu einem fairen Preis. Schönes Ambiente mit toller Aussicht. Sympathischer, ungezwungener Service.

Bei gutem Wetter ist die Terrasse ein Erlebnis. Der Service war aufmerksam. Alles bestens, insbesondere das Dessert. Sehr schöne und günstige Kombination: Einkaufs-Gutschein bei Garhammer mit einem 3 oder 4-Gänge Menü.

Das Essen ist ein Erlebnis! Wir haben spät auch noch ohne Reservierung einen Tisch bekommen und sind vorzüglich bedient worden! Erstaunt waren wir über die sehr guten Preise, trotz Michelin Stern. Wer Sterneküche zu bürgerfreundlichen Konditionen versuchen möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Wirklich eine Empfehlung wert.

Super toller freundlicher Service und über das Essen braucht man nichts sagen. Das ist eine Klasse für sich. Besser geht nicht.

Das Essen war wirklich sehr gut, frische Zutaten und feine Zusammenstellung. Auch wenn der Service sehr freundlich und bemüht war, so war er doch an einigen Stellen Verbesserungsfähig. Beispielsweise fanden wir es in einem Restaurant der Preisklasse ziemlich unpassend, dass während des Essens die Untersetzer am Nebentisch mit einer Sprühflasche mit Reinigungsmittel besprüht und abgewischt wurden. Durch den Geruch konnte man das Essen kaum genießen. So gab es noch einige Kritikpunkte… wir werden wahrscheinlich trotzdem wieder hingehen aber man würde sich da doch über einige Verbesserungen freuen.

In den letzten Jahren haben wir unterschiedlichste Michelin-Sterne-Restaurants besucht. Das Johanns war dabei wohl eines der schwächsten. Obwohl wir lange im Voraus für zwei Personen reserviert hatten, hat man uns an einen - zugegebenermaßen sehr schönen - Tisch für vier Personen gesetzt und zwei Gedecke wieder entfernt. An dem Abend liefen Aufnahmen "für ein neues Imagevideo", so dass zu Beginn des Abends ständig eine Drohne durchs Lokal und über die Terrasse geflogen ist. Gefragt, ob wir mit solchen Aufnahmen einverstanden sind, wurden wir nicht. Man hatte auch das Gefühl, der Küchenchef war zunächst mehr mit posen beschäftigt, als mit kochen. Wir bestellten drei Gänge "à la carte". Davor gab es ein bisschen Brot mit Tomatenbutter, aber keinerlei Amuse Gueule oder sonstigen Gruß aus der Küche. Ob wir einen Aperitif wollen, wurden wir nicht gefragt, vielmehr mussten wir selbst richtiggehend darauf drängen. Auch der Wunsch nach einer Weinbegleitung erwies sich als schwierig. Die Vorspeise (u.a. etwas Obatzta in eine Scheibe Radi eingewickelt) war recht uninspiriert. Sowohl Zwischengang (Wachtelbrust mit Schwammerl) als auch Hauptgang (Wagyu Beef mit Kartoffelstreifen und Cesar's Salad (!)) fielen so üppig aus, dass man es kaum schaffen konnte. Die Rechnung bekamen wir serviert, wiederum ohne irgend einen Gruß aus der Küche und ohne Nachfrage, ob denn alles Recht gewesen sei. Da sich anschließend längere Zeit niemand mehr um uns kümmerte, sind wir aufgestanden und haben uns zum Zahlen selbst an den Tresen begehen. Fazit: Das Essen an sich ist durchaus sehr gut, aber für einen Stern zu uninspiriert und gewöhnlich. Der Service ist - freundlich ausgedrückt - eher schwach.

La comida es extraordinaria. Una experiencia digna de ser vivida. El servicio es muy atento y amable. Las vistas son espectaculares. Puedes ver la puesta de sol sobre las praderas bávaras. Merece la pena el menú degustación. Combinan productos regionales con productos exóticos de manera magistral.

Ein traumhafter Mittag mit unseren Kindern. Tolles Erlebnis und für alle die sich an Sterneküche probieren möchten eine Reise wert. Unkompliziert, herzlich, sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter/ innen, ein Küchenchef der im Service mithilft und mich samt Kids einen Blick in die Küche hat erhaschen lassen. Das Essen über jeden Zweifel erhaben und preislich auf dem Niveau absolut moderat!!! Wir kommen wieder und versprechen nicht wieder 6 Jahre zu warten! 😉

With a birthday to celebrate we decided to finally experience Johanns in Waldkirchen, Bavaria - 1 Star Michelin Restaurant. Below our observations. It has to be said, more than half of the guests were industry insiders Chef to Hotelier with Michelin background so one could say we’re demanding customers, even if this may not appear like it to the concerned as in the it’s about the family event, which we most certainly enjoy regardless how impressive the venues performance is every year 1,2,3 times. For the ones not interested in the long(er) Version, here in short. Venue, not really our taste. Modern, large, with only 50 covers to seat one would think more could be made of it. Service, trying hard, at times probably too hard. Culinary, may be entry level Michelin but fails to impress. Pricing, keeping in mind as industry insiders we believe lower Bavaria is still way under priced for experiences like this - fair. Main Menu, available in 4-, 5- and 6-course with or without accompanying wine selection * Only half of us selected the menu and interestingly enough it was the ones not working in F&B/Hotel. * The best part was probably the wine selection presented. * Portions seemed at times overdone, but I guess that’s the Bavaria influence. * Food presentation at times “odd” for example the amuse or Auftakt finger bites presented for a medium size table without cutlery during COVID times…? * The Brotzeit starter was interesting in taste but the presentation appeared off. * Latest when the deep fried Kalbsbries arrived I was certain it was the right choice not to take the menu. * The lamb certainly was the highlight of the menu, for me the only dish that was under-sized. * Best was the Whiskey Oak desert and lucky as I am my wife was more than stuffed from the for her and probably many others oversized menu. In all fairness, I must state here again. As insiders we may be spoiled an our benchmark(s) like “Schwingshackl” and similar places may be tough to compete with even if the menu here is substantially cheaper. But let’s face it, if we go Michelin Star dining we expect nothing short of being blown away. The other dishes presented * The Saibling (fish) looked stunning and I wished to have added another starter. * The Beef Tartar was yummy although I felt there was an imbalance of tartar and it’s toppings. Maybe I should have taken the smaller portion as promoted in the Menu. * Maroni Soup was yummy but way oversized due to the soup bowl. The China utilised was interesting but probably more for a desert presentation than a soup of this kind. * Bauernente (Duck) was a solid portion and while reported as “tasty” it is hard to impress with such a dish in the Bavarian Forest where most housewifes are likely to do as good, from the looks probably even better - fresh. * The Game dish (deer) was well presented and would likely be my choice if we were to return any time soon. * Dry Aged Filet was good but failed to impress by presentation. Trueffeljus not very truffle, Coleslaw way oversized but a nice, tasty combination. Since portion size is one of the main points above I should add, the fig-butter was awesome even if the bread appeared dried-off on the outside already, from standing a bit too long in the dry kitchen. The bread was good and the youngest guest (4) decided to stick to it and butter throughout the evening. Anyone who reads this to the end is likely to be as done as we were. While we may be critical, we most certainly had a fabulous evening. As a concluding thought, the way the venue is presented for dinner felt at least to me more like a lunch dining venue and at least for lunch I’d be curious to discover their menu again. For dinner however the experience has to be developed, starting with more of a sense of arrival…
