Restaurant im Literaturhaus in Nürnberg

We were helped immediately despite a staff shortage. A restaurant we had booked in advance hadn't announced its closure, and it was on our 50th wedding anniversary. Come on, we can do it. It turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening for us as a family. The food and staff were excellent. Once again, a huge thank you to everyone.

Note: Review of food and drinks from previous visits. I'm standing in front of it and all the lights are off - time: 10:30 p.m. CEST. It's not the first time either. Either the coffee machine is already out at 9:45 p.m. or the payment is made at 10:10 p.m. and it is pointed out that you can prepare to leave. Actually a really nice restaurant, with great, interesting events (mainly readings) and really great employees. It is also understood that after a long, tiring day they need to get off work at some point, but then the opening times should be adjusted, otherwise tourists and night owls could find themselves in front of closed doors.

Went here for the first time today, business lunch for two. And we were really very impressed: delicious food (schnitzel from the menu and chicken breast from the daily menu), very friendly service and a nice ambience. However, we moved, the reserved round table by the window seemed very small to us... We'll be back

Great place to relax, simply fantastic. A must in the summer. The food is really delicious, and the staff are always very accommodating, polite, and friendly. I enjoy going there.

Even if I was given leftover dessert at the next table, it still takes a little patience. The great service likes to talk for a long time with the guests, most of whom were over 60+.. Does something with the atmosphere.. But you can also ignore it and just feel good ☺ The food (daily menu) was good, but nothing special. I'll still come back and try the cake 😉

The Café Literaturhaus offers a pleasant atmosphere with friendly service. The prices are a bit high, but overall still reasonable. Perfect for a leisurely coffee visit if you're willing to pay a little more.

We were there for coffee and cake. Unfortunately the coffee wasn't hot and I wasn't happy with the cake either. I had ordered an apple and sour cream cake, which I picked out from the display. Unfortunately it wasn't sour cream, but pudding with reduced-fat milk. That doesn't taste good. The service was good.

We just had a drink here. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Invites you to linger and read or simply observe.

I wanted a healthy breakfast. The waitresses was not polite, no WLAN pass, no smile. there was table like in restorant and was full but she insisted to bring me breakfast from the menu

I celebrated a big birthday on the upper floor of the Literaturhauscafe at the beginning of January 2025 with an extensive brunch and 35 guests. Even preparing my celebration was a lot of fun with Mr. Schuster. He is an absolute professional, was always available and helpful, so I felt like I was in very good hands with him. The space, accessible via stairs or an elevator and with its own toilets and balcony, is perfect for a celebration. The tables were beautifully set in white and had beautiful menu cards. The cold/warm/dessert buffet (e.g. around 9 different Mediterranean starters, roast beef, grouper and roast sausages, each with side dishes, homemade tiramisu, cake, etc.) was freshly served over several hours and was excellent. We had two service staff available to us at all times who did a great job. My guests and I were thrilled. We would love to come back and can highly recommend the Literaturhauscafe.

The service was very attentive and quick. Unfortunately the noise level is quite high. I'm looking forward to summer when you can sit outside again 😄

Unfortunately, the New Year's Eve 2024 celebration in the restaurant of the Nuremberg Literaturhaus disappointed me across the board. At 135 EUR per person without drinks for the buffet meal, I really expect something different, especially from a chef who identifies himself as a “Grand Officier Maître Rôtisseur” in the global gourmet association “Confrèrie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” and his restaurant advertised as "... above-average food and service at affordable prices".

After a company Christmas party, we went to the "Literaturhaus" for the New Year's Eve menu for the first time and were absolutely convinced (except for the aperitif:-( ) by the above-average, friendly service and the excellent menu (compliments to the friendly and present "head chef") Excited! Quiet ambience for dining on the 1st floor and very pleasant music for dancing on the ground floor = perfect concept THANK YOU for a very successful turn of the year!

They have gluten free options, but brought the wrong bread the first time, so you have to double check.

Solid service but mediocre overall The restaurant in the Literaturhaus left me with mixed impressions. The service was excellent: friendly, attentive and always professional despite the many guests - a real highlight! The atmosphere, on the other hand, was rather average and not as cozy as I had imagined, especially because of the many guests and the associated noise. The food was solid, but I would have expected more for the prices. All in all okay, but not necessarily a place I would visit again in a heartbeat.

A perfect spot for a light breakfast. While it’s not a traditional German breakfast, it’s simple and classy. The atmosphere is lovely, and the service is outstanding.

Great cafe/restaurant, prices are still reasonable, great service, good selection

We went to the Christmas party with about 40 friends. The food portions were very different, some got two roulades, others only got one roulade. All for the same price. The same goes for the Viennese-style schnitzels. For €21, one person got a schnitzel and the other got two schnitzels. After several guests complained about this, the waiter explained that he couldn't do anything because he was just the waiter. The boss was not available despite repeated requests. The waiter's recommendation was to call the next day and maybe the boss would be there then. We should search for the phone number from the Internet. Calls and emails didn't lead anywhere. Apparently the management has no interest in customer service.

It was our first time here with friends and it was very well attended. The ambience is really nice and the audience is very pleasant. The staff was consistently very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, the prices are normal for Nuremberg city center. You should make a reservation. We liked it very much, we would like to come back.

I visited as the only local restaurant I could find locally. In the morning I had a nice egg medley with GF rolls, in the evening I returned and enjoyed a ratatouille, rice, gluten free rolls and a GD cafe. I would highly recommend.

Wir waren mit ca 40 Freunden zur Weihnachtsfeier. Sämtliche Gerichte waren extrem unterschiedlich portioniert. Meine Freundin hat Roulade bestellt und zwei Rouladen bekommen, die andere Freundin hat für den gleichen Preis nur eine Roulade bekommen. Bei Reklamation hat der Kellner nur gesagt, dass er darauf keinen Einfluss hat, weil er nur bedient. Stolzer Preis für Die Roulade ohne Salat waren über 20 €. Erst nachdem sich alle beschwert hatten, brauchte besagter Kellner nochmal eine Roulade auf die bereits leer gegessen leeren Teller. Man musste die Roulade dann ohne Beilage essen, da die zweite Roulade erst ca 20 min nach dem Essen gebracht wurde. Ich hatte ein großes Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat. Für 21,50 € gab es ein Schnitzel in normaler Größe. Zwei Freunde hatten ebenfalls das große Schnitzel bestellt , allerdings zwei genauso große Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat bekommen. Die Freunde, die ein kleines Schnitzel bestellt hatten, haben die gleiche Portion für 5 € weniger bekommen. Hier brauchte die Reklamation leider nichts. Der Kellner behauptete, dass alle Portionen gleich wären. Wir haben mehrfach reklamiert, aber der Kellner hat uns immer wieder gesagt, dass er da nichts ändern könnte, der Chef wäre nicht da. Auf die Frage, wo wir uns beschweren können, sagte er, wir sollten uns im Internet die Telefonnummer raussuchen, dann könnten wir am nächsten Tag anrufen. Ob der Chef dann da sei, wisse er nicht genau, Ich gehe davon aus, dass es dem Personal völlig egal ist, ob Gäste zufrieden sind oder nicht. Genauso egal ist es ihnen auch, dass für die stolzen Preise wenigstens ein bisschen Service erwartet werden könnte. Mich sieht das Restaurant jedenfalls nicht mehr wieder.

Super great breakfast. Great service

We were there recently and had a little something to eat. We come here every time we go into town in the morning. But we also had a delicious and excellent breakfast here with everything we needed. We have also been here several times at lunchtime and have had excellent meals. We got a wonderful salad with everything your heart could desire, delicious with turkey strips, and I had fish that was tender and you could tell it was fresh, which is not a given in Bavaria, and I was very happy with it. I also like the whole ambience inside. It's also great outside, because it's located in the heart of Nuremberg on a side street, and if you sit outside you can have a wonderful meal and look at the street with its colorful hustle and bustle. The prices are still relatively moderate for the city center and that's why we will now always make this our goal when we go back to the city because we like the entire all-round package best. Sorry about the break-in, I just read it. I hope we can catch the thieves. Don't lose heart, we will remain loyal as customers.

Inconspicuous but extremely tasty cuisine - and value for money: the dish of the day, fish stew, was really a poem, the pasta with wild mushrooms was also very tasty - service was very nice and committed to making room for 8 people, even at short notice

Everything is right here! A very nice location, incredibly friendly staff (Zissis Karamperis served us) and the best thing: the option to eat/breakfast gluten-free. Children are also welcome.

Service is good, the diet is also pretty normal, but I didn't like coffee that much, it was quite robust, it seemed to me. The prices for coffee and cake are the same as they are in the city center. Barrier-free.

Am Sonntag habe ich mit meiner Familie und mit Freunden meinen Geburtstag mit einem Brunch im Literaturcafe gefeiert und alle waren rundum begeistert. Die Auswahl reichte von Müsli über Käse, Schinken, Lachs, Forelle bis zu Hühnchensalat und Shrimpscocktail, für jeden war etwas dabei. Kaffee, Saft und ein Glas Sekt waren im Preis inbegriffen. Eierspeisen wurden frisch zubereitet und an den Tisch gebracht. Und ab 13 Uhr gab es noch Steinpilzsuppe und drei warme Gerichte (Maishähnchen, Fisch und Gemüselasagne, alles sehr lecker. Die junge Dame, die an unserem Tisch bedient hat, war äußerst freundlich und aufmerksam und immer darauf bedacht, alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Großes Lob!

The apple and cinnamon cake was very tasty. Our children ate two pieces of a strawberry cream cake which they really enjoyed. All in all, we always enjoy coming here.

I'M VERY LOOKING FORWARD TO VISIT YOU WHEN I COME TO MARK LORENZ'S CONCERT. THE LAST VISIT TO YOU WAS IN 2019 AND THE CONDITION HAD ME RIGHT AWAY ON 10/22. RECOGNIZED AGAIN. And today I was there again.

Why the hell did I have to wait 45 min to pay!??! Food was ok but nothing special and the atmosphere is weird if you're not someone over 50 whose day drinking. There are way better cafés and restaurants in Nuremberg, don't waste your time and money here

The Literaturhaus is always worth a visit. From great service to good, varied food, everything is just right here. The price performance is also very good. Employees as well as the boss put in a lot of effort, something you don't see very often anymore.

Since I am a big coffee fan, I unfortunately have to say that I am disappointed with the coffee. When I go to a coffee shop for breakfast I expect something other than vending machine coffee. Cappuccino (over €5) belongs differently. Now for the positive: Service was very nice. Nice atmosphere and location is great too!

Very pleasant atmosphere, although a bit noisy despite there being fewer tables. The service was quick and friendly. Only the hot chocolates and cake weren't to our liking. There was very little sweetness. Certainly a pleasant place for someone who likes something less sweet.

I was able to reaffirm my positive belief that the Literaturhaus is the best meeting place in Nuremberg. The friendliness and service are overwhelming. The motivation and willingness to serve cannot be found in any other restaurant in Nuremberg like the Literaturhaus. The prices may be sporty, but the quality and quantity are outstanding, especially the crème brûlée! If you're not into "stinginess is cool" but expect high-quality hospitality for your money, you can't avoid the Literaturhaus in Nuremberg.

Breakfast here was not freshly made and generally not good tasting. It consisted of old bread and bland store-bought dips served in little bowls. The fried vegetables were wet and mushy. The coffee is okay-ish, but comes out of an all in one machine. Would not come here again. Staff was friendly though.

The place where to go to talk, bring your book, or media colleagues, after work drink and conversations without being disturbed by loudness. Absolutely experienced staff, food is very reasonably priced, good portion and above all a classic old era charm, for people who do not like fulff. You have to be a bit mature to be able to appreciate the uniqueness of this place. 💛🤎

I tried the day menu which was minced meat inside cabbage leaves in a diced bacon-onion sauce (which to me was salty) and a small dessert ( not too sweet). The environment is nice and the staff was welcoming and attentive. In warmer weather outdoor seating area would be a nice option as it’s located in a wide, beautiful street.

The coffee is good and there is also a good selection of cakes. The establishment is particularly busy on weekends. However, the service seemed stressed and therefore not particularly friendly. For the sake of the quality of the offer, it is recommended, but with deductions when dealing with customers.

September 23rd, 2024: the lamb shank and the stuffed peppers were an absolute dream. Rounded off with a great dessert, it's once again an absolute highlight. Pay attention to the weekly menu!!! Just crazy!!

I didn't order anything, but my friend didn't like her dish at all. Nevertheless, we had a nice conversation with the waitress. When a guest suddenly disappeared after ordering, we even received his now unnecessary salad. It's always full and nice to sit there.

First of all: the food was delicious and it was very nice to sit outside. Unfortunately, the new waitress is inexperienced, cheeky and afraid of wasps. Unfortunately, that was an unfavorable combination that had a negative impact on the relaxed breakfast.

Very cozy. You can eat very well here and there are vegetarian/vegan dishes! The staff is very nice, you feel comfortable.

“Where cooking and linguistic art come together” is welcomed on the food and drink “catalogue”. We only had breakfast here (sailor-style, which was easily enough for two people), but we almost lost ourselves when we saw the large selection: the kidneys on the menu were exceptional, but also many wines and beers. The good Mövenpick ice cream (many varieties). We found it simply perfect here. Atmosphere with open doors to the olive tree-lined terrace, the "old-fashioned" but by no means shabby) was retained (staircase railing, counter, cloakroom, seating), tables between books, beautiful photos, brisk, very friendly service lady, overall the staff seems to be happy to identify with the house. And all of this at comparatively affordable prices.

Taste ok. But unfortunately small portions that aren't really filling. Therefore only 3 stars out of 5.

Too pricey! Especially when your Greek waiter is insisting on a huge expensive bottle of mineral water, when it was already clear that I ordered a small one.

Edit July 30, 2024: I won't change anything about the stars. But after two years I was there again and I have to say I was very disappointed. The breakfast wasn't nearly as tasty as it was two years ago. The fruit salad didn't taste good at all and you're charged extra for a bit of oat milk without any special announcement. And that in today's world, when you can get oat milk for the same price as cow's milk and you should avoid the latter. The cheese selection wasn't that unusual either. It's a shame, given the price-performance ratio I wouldn't have breakfast here again. I was in Nuremberg for a weekend. Even though I hadn't made a reservation for Saturday morning, I was offered a table that was reserved for later, I could tell that I would be ready by then.😃 The service was very friendly and accommodating. My requests for changes were completely fulfilled. I was really excited about my cheese 🧀breakfast. I have never experienced such an extraordinary, diverse, great selection of cheese in a restaurant💕😊. An all-round successful start to the day at a great price-performance ratio 🌞

We ate there yesterday as part of a day trip to Nuremberg. Everything was actually okay so far, the food came relatively quickly as did the drinks, but I found it stressful at the beginning because we couldn't order à la carte, but had already pre-ordered in the morning. I found it stressful in the restaurant itself because there were several waiters running around the whole time and the drinks and meals were placed on the table in a somewhat stressed manner (at least in my opinion). My salad plate was okay, but it didn't blow me away personally. You can't go wrong with water or coffee. But when we wanted to leave the restaurant, it suddenly turned out that my salad plate had apparently not been paid for, even though I had paid in cash and tipped €0.40, I got €25.50 instead of €25.10 paid which is unfortunately not a small amount of money for me at the moment. I was a bit pissed off then. We tried to clarify this with the staff, but unfortunately they only believed us in quotation marks. Just take a quick look, for example in the invoices or something similar, in order to really be able to confirm and clarify it satisfactorily, for whatever reason. I know these are difficult times for the restaurant industry in general at the moment, but something like this simply can't happen in a restaurant! Conclusion: Food is okay so far, but everything else is chaotic for me, so unfortunately I can't recommend it.

Being one of the first people in, the waiter didn't even let us (group of 3) sit where we wanted, there was a baby cockroach in the bathroom and the prices were pretty high. Would not recommend if you are a traveler passing though. The waiter towards the end of our stay took out his phone and nabbed a picture of me thinking he was sneaky.

What a cracking place. First real sunshine we've had for a while helped, but lovely outside dining with relaxed surroundings. Extensive menu with good choice of drinks. Waitresses very helpful and courteous. Food was top notch. Fresh and good size. Desesrts worth keeping room for too. Definately worth a visit. Our waitress, leni was especially helpful 😃l

A wonderful place for both Nuremberg residents and tourists. A relaxed atmosphere. A wide selection of delicious food and drinks. A big compliment to the friendly and courteous service staff. I will gladly come again. And feel free to spread the word.
