Good restaurant right in the city center

We got a table for two without a reservation. Friendly service, good Franconian cuisine at fair prices. The ambiance with its many books is great and a nice change from the usual fast-food restaurants.

I felt very comfortable. Breakfast: muesli with fresh fruit, two fried eggs, two rolls, a coffee ☕️ Everything was perfect. Only one point deduction: I was shocked to be charged 0.70 cents for a glass of tap water. They don't charge for water for a dog, so I was very disappointed 😞

We had a reservation for 18 people. The table only had room for 15. The rest had to sit separately. It was extremely loud. Normal conversation was impossible. There were constant problems with the card reader's reception.

I'd love to come back again and again! This café/restaurant doesn't just look like it—it's so charmingly out of date... The interior and lighting are in a sophisticated retro style, the food is solid in the best sense of the word, the cake selection is exquisite, and the service is extremely attentive. It's particularly pleasing to note that some of the very friendly wait staff have been working there for years. Sure, the average age of the guests is usually quite good, but why not? However, it's becoming increasingly common to see grandparents bringing their grandchildren along to introduce them to Nuremberg's cultural treasures. You can spread out your newspaper or book in front of you and simply linger... Perhaps the acoustics could be improved in the long run: When it's full, the spacious interior can sometimes be too loud for a pleasant conversation. Well, or perhaps you could simply adjust your hearing aids...

It wasn't the first time I'd waited outside on the terrace without a waiter coming after repeated requests. When I asked the manager, he reacted very rudely and said he didn't care; I could just give him zero stars.

Although open until 6 p.m., the cake display case was already emptied before 5 p.m., and when asked why it was so early, the extremely unfriendly staff offered no answer...what a shame. 🙁

We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance, where we ordered salads and pasta. The food was spectacular! 10/10, and all without speaking German.

Great restaurant. We went there for breakfast. It has a lovely retro look. The food was excellent, and the service was attentive and friendly. There's also a large outdoor area. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a large party and also a child who spilled a drink and broke a glass, and I'm sure we were loud. Our server, Katja, was incredible from start to finish. In our case, Katja had every right to be angry, but she was not. She was warm and helpful during the entire dinner and afterwards and this meant a lot to me and the group. Thank you Katja for making our night special!

Delicious, good atmosphere, you can read a book while the food arrives. The service is also very friendly. A bit expensive, and the portions are a bit small. Still, I'd happily go back.

From the outside, it may seem almost inconspicuous and more like a café, but this is actually an excellent restaurant with great food and a varied menu! It's definitely worth a try during your visit to Nuremberg.

Second year we travel through Nürnberg and second year we have breakfast here. Very good breakfast, the yoghurt is perfect and the bread is fresh. Lovely spot to have breakfast at.

We attend the Bardenfest every year. The Literature Cafe is a staple for us; we always have breakfast there. Super friendly staff, reasonable prices, and good quality. See you next time!

At a reading on the first floor, it wasn't possible to get a dish from the regular menu, which was a real shame. On the small menu for the reading, I opted for the cream of asparagus soup, believing I was getting a vegetarian dish. Unfortunately, there was no mention of the fact that it was chock-full of salmon.

I've had breakfast here twice. The muesli breakfast with fresh fruit and homemade jam is simply a dream. The waitresses were very friendly. Thank you for the lovely time.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs. The food is mediocre at best, but the prices are rather high for the quality. The presentation of the dishes is subpar. I can do better at home. All in all, simply not worth a single euro spent. Sorry, but that's the naked truth.

Generally speaking, it's a nice coffee house. The breakfast was really good, but the coffee is on the lower end (1 star). I think this kind of coffee was still considered good more than 5 years ago, but these days you can get better at McDonald's (and even a monkey would agree 😉)... The milk alternative, at 0.80 cents, is also outdated, but perhaps they could still offer it at no extra charge as an environmental waste. That won't change sales much. Nonetheless, a solid place, especially for the older generation.

The food tastes good. Nothing outstanding but tasty. I think the portions are a bit too expensive in relation to the price. Ambiance is a matter of taste. It seems intentionally cozy, but it only appeals to me to a limited extent. The service was good, although a little quicker would have been desirable. Good shop, but in the end everyone has to make up their own mind.

We had a super delicious breakfast in the Literaturhaus Nuremberg. The service was very friendly and we felt completely comfortable. We will definitely eat here again when we are in Nuremberg. 😀

A place that is not 100% gluten-free but the dishes that are gluten-free are marked on the menu. The options are not very elaborate, but it is fine to get by. I would repeat.

We received immediate help despite the lack of staff. A pre-booked restaurant had not announced the closure, which was on our 50th wedding anniversary. Come on, we can do it. It was a completely successful evening for us as a family. The kitchen and the staff were excellent. Once again a big thank you to everyone.

Note: Review of food and drinks from previous visits. I'm standing in front of it and all the lights are off - time: 10:30 p.m. CEST. It's not the first time either. Either the coffee machine is already out at 9:45 p.m. or the payment is made at 10:10 p.m. and it is pointed out that you can prepare to leave. Actually a really nice restaurant, with great, interesting events (mainly readings) and really great employees. It is also understood that after a long, tiring day they need to get off work at some point, but then the opening times should be adjusted, otherwise tourists and night owls could find themselves in front of closed doors.

Went here for the first time today, business lunch for two. And we were really very impressed: delicious food (schnitzel from the menu and chicken breast from the daily menu), very friendly service and a nice ambience. However, we moved, the reserved round table by the window seemed very small to us... We'll be back

Even if I was given leftover dessert at the next table, it still takes a little patience. The great service likes to talk for a long time with the guests, most of whom were over 60+.. Does something with the atmosphere.. But you can also ignore it and just feel good ☺ The food (daily menu) was good, but nothing special. I'll still come back and try the cake 😉

The Café Literaturhaus offers a pleasant atmosphere with friendly service. The prices are a bit high, but overall still reasonable. Perfect for a leisurely coffee visit if you're willing to pay a little more.

We were there for coffee and cake. Unfortunately the coffee wasn't hot and I wasn't happy with the cake either. I had ordered an apple and sour cream cake, which I picked out from the display. Unfortunately it wasn't sour cream, but pudding with reduced-fat milk. That doesn't taste good. The service was good.

We just had a drink here. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Invites you to linger and read or simply observe.

I celebrated a big birthday on the upper floor of the Literaturhauscafe at the beginning of January 2025 with an extensive brunch and 35 guests. Even preparing my celebration was a lot of fun with Mr. Schuster. He is an absolute professional, was always available and helpful, so I felt like I was in very good hands with him. The space, accessible via stairs or an elevator and with its own toilets and balcony, is perfect for a celebration. The tables were beautifully set in white and had beautiful menu cards. The cold/warm/dessert buffet (e.g. around 9 different Mediterranean starters, roast beef, grouper and roast sausages, each with side dishes, homemade tiramisu, cake, etc.) was freshly served over several hours and was excellent. We had two service staff available to us at all times who did a great job. My guests and I were thrilled. We would love to come back and can highly recommend the Literaturhauscafe.

Unfortunately, the New Year's Eve 2024 celebration in the restaurant of the Nuremberg Literaturhaus disappointed me across the board. At 135 EUR per person without drinks for the buffet meal, I really expect something different, especially from a chef who identifies himself as a “Grand Officier Maître Rôtisseur” in the global gourmet association “Confrèrie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” and his restaurant advertised as "... above-average food and service at affordable prices".

After a company Christmas party, we went to the "Literaturhaus" for the New Year's Eve menu for the first time and were absolutely convinced (except for the aperitif:-( ) by the above-average, friendly service and the excellent menu (compliments to the friendly and present "head chef") Excited! Quiet ambience for dining on the 1st floor and very pleasant music for dancing on the ground floor = perfect concept THANK YOU for a very successful turn of the year!

Solid service but mediocre overall The restaurant in the Literaturhaus left me with mixed impressions. The service was excellent: friendly, attentive and always professional despite the many guests - a real highlight! The atmosphere, on the other hand, was rather average and not as cozy as I had imagined, especially because of the many guests and the associated noise. The food was solid, but I would have expected more for the prices. All in all okay, but not necessarily a place I would visit again in a heartbeat.

A perfect spot for a light breakfast. While it’s not a traditional German breakfast, it’s simple and classy. The atmosphere is lovely, and the service is outstanding.

It was our first time here with friends and it was very well attended. The ambience is really nice and the audience is very pleasant. The staff was consistently very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, the prices are normal for Nuremberg city center. You should make a reservation. We liked it very much, we would like to come back.

We went to the Christmas party with about 40 friends. The food portions were very different, some got two roulades, others only got one roulade. All for the same price. The same goes for the Viennese-style schnitzels. For €21, one person got a schnitzel and the other got two schnitzels. After several guests complained about this, the waiter explained that he couldn't do anything because he was just the waiter. The boss was not available despite repeated requests. The waiter's recommendation was to call the next day and maybe the boss would be there then. We should search for the phone number from the Internet. Calls and emails didn't lead anywhere. Apparently the management has no interest in customer service.

Brunch war sehr lecker und der Service sehr gut

I visited as the only local restaurant I could find locally. In the morning I had a nice egg medley with GF rolls, in the evening I returned and enjoyed a ratatouille, rice, gluten free rolls and a GD cafe. I would highly recommend.

Very expensive once and never again

Wir waren mit ca 40 Freunden zur Weihnachtsfeier. Sämtliche Gerichte waren extrem unterschiedlich portioniert. Meine Freundin hat Roulade bestellt und zwei Rouladen bekommen, die andere Freundin hat für den gleichen Preis nur eine Roulade bekommen. Bei Reklamation hat der Kellner nur gesagt, dass er darauf keinen Einfluss hat, weil er nur bedient. Stolzer Preis für Die Roulade ohne Salat waren über 20 €. Erst nachdem sich alle beschwert hatten, brauchte besagter Kellner nochmal eine Roulade auf die bereits leer gegessen leeren Teller. Man musste die Roulade dann ohne Beilage essen, da die zweite Roulade erst ca 20 min nach dem Essen gebracht wurde. Ich hatte ein großes Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat. Für 21,50 € gab es ein Schnitzel in normaler Größe. Zwei Freunde hatten ebenfalls das große Schnitzel bestellt , allerdings zwei genauso große Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat bekommen. Die Freunde, die ein kleines Schnitzel bestellt hatten, haben die gleiche Portion für 5 € weniger bekommen. Hier brauchte die Reklamation leider nichts. Der Kellner behauptete, dass alle Portionen gleich wären. Wir haben mehrfach reklamiert, aber der Kellner hat uns immer wieder gesagt, dass er da nichts ändern könnte, der Chef wäre nicht da. Auf die Frage, wo wir uns beschweren können, sagte er, wir sollten uns im Internet die Telefonnummer raussuchen, dann könnten wir am nächsten Tag anrufen. Ob der Chef dann da sei, wisse er nicht genau, Ich gehe davon aus, dass es dem Personal völlig egal ist, ob Gäste zufrieden sind oder nicht. Genauso egal ist es ihnen auch, dass für die stolzen Preise wenigstens ein bisschen Service erwartet werden könnte. Mich sieht das Restaurant jedenfalls nicht mehr wieder.

We were there recently and had a little something to eat. We come here every time we go into town in the morning. But we also had a delicious and excellent breakfast here with everything we needed. We have also been here several times at lunchtime and have had excellent meals. We got a wonderful salad with everything your heart could desire, delicious with turkey strips, and I had fish that was tender and you could tell it was fresh, which is not a given in Bavaria, and I was very happy with it. I also like the whole ambience inside. It's also great outside, because it's located in the heart of Nuremberg on a side street, and if you sit outside you can have a wonderful meal and look at the street with its colorful hustle and bustle. The prices are still relatively moderate for the city center and that's why we will now always make this our goal when we go back to the city because we like the entire all-round package best. Sorry about the break-in, I just read it. I hope we can catch the thieves. Don't lose heart, we will remain loyal as customers.

Everything is right here! A very nice location, incredibly friendly staff (Zissis Karamperis served us) and the best thing: the option to eat/breakfast gluten-free. Children are also welcome.

Service is good, the diet is also pretty normal, but I didn't like coffee that much, it was quite robust, it seemed to me. The prices for coffee and cake are the same as they are in the city center. Barrier-free.

Am Sonntag habe ich mit meiner Familie und mit Freunden meinen Geburtstag mit einem Brunch im Literaturcafe gefeiert und alle waren rundum begeistert. Die Auswahl reichte von Müsli über Käse, Schinken, Lachs, Forelle bis zu Hühnchensalat und Shrimpscocktail, für jeden war etwas dabei. Kaffee, Saft und ein Glas Sekt waren im Preis inbegriffen. Eierspeisen wurden frisch zubereitet und an den Tisch gebracht. Und ab 13 Uhr gab es noch Steinpilzsuppe und drei warme Gerichte (Maishähnchen, Fisch und Gemüselasagne, alles sehr lecker. Die junge Dame, die an unserem Tisch bedient hat, war äußerst freundlich und aufmerksam und immer darauf bedacht, alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Großes Lob!

The apple and cinnamon cake was very tasty. Our children ate two pieces of a strawberry cream cake which they really enjoyed. All in all, we always enjoy coming here.

Why the hell did I have to wait 45 min to pay!??! Food was ok but nothing special and the atmosphere is weird if you're not someone over 50 whose day drinking. There are way better cafés and restaurants in Nuremberg, don't waste your time and money here
