Restaurant II Castagno in München

Stumbled across this excellent restaurant on a recent trip to Munich. Food was reasonably priced, very tasty and the atmosphere was very cosy. The service was superb, with the waiter being very attentive and helpful.

Service excellent (really totally attentive, fast but calm), food super tasty and affordable. Were there for the first time, but will definitely come back. We had a starter, a main course and will definitely order a dessert now.

Unfortunately I made a short stop, just to have a drink, but the kindness of the staff, the cleanliness of the place and the delicious smell of good pizza invite me to return for a more substantial drink...

Near the Hacker Bridge towards Theresienwiese. Nice beer garden. Nice atmosphere inside. Nice service. Very good pizza. And good card. Recommended.

I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant, I asked if I could use the toilet and was denied and you shouldn't support something like that.

Yesterday we had a spontaneous meal here as a family after visiting the zoo. I have to say it was great! The food was fresh and super tasty, the pizza was amazing! Great, fresh ingredients from Bosen totally delicious! The pasta dishes, Bolognese like in Italy ❤❤❤ and the Tagliatelle al Salmone are a dream with large pieces of salmon and not mini small like many other providers. Even the dessert, tiramisu, was sooooo delicious😇😇 Portion sizes very generous and that Price performance level absolutely top! The four of us paid €104 with drinks before the main course and dessert, which is perfectly fine. The service was quick and friendly, the ambience was okay, something could be improved so that it doesn't seem so cold. We'll be back❤❤❤❤❤

Unfortunately, I only found out on site that you can only pay with a card if you spend more than €20. So if you just want to eat something small, take cash with you. Otherwise everything was really great

I think this restaurant is very good. The food is highly recommended. The selection is very large and diverse. There is something for everyone. From classic pasta and pizza to culinary delicacies. The vegetarian cuisine is also very diverse. I think the food is presented in such a way that you immediately get hungry. Plus the service is really great. The staff is friendly and takes good care of the guests. However, I only give the ambience 4 stars because the outside facade doesn't look that inviting. Otherwise very comfortable and we always like to come back. Thanks!

We had lunch at Il Castagno and were even able to sit outside (in March). Very friendly service, top-notch pizza, and good value for money!

Scam - different price charged than the price on the internet

We've been going to Il Castagno at least twice a year for a long time now, and we were there again two weeks ago. We're always amazed by the friendliness with which we're treated there. Incredibly friendly and quick service, excellent Italian cuisine, and in the summer, a beautiful beer garden with large, shady chestnut trees beckons. Il Castagno is an Italian family business of the highest quality, and we're already looking forward to our next visit! Tip: Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as it's almost always full.

Went here twice for dinner during a business trip in Munich, the restaurant was always busy! However the service team was very efficient and friendly, we got served very quickly. The foods were all very delicious. To my surprise, the price was actually pretty good ( for Munich). I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Pizza Salmone & Zucchini was good and very large. However, the prices on Google are not correct, you have to go to the website for current prices. Everything costs €3-6 more. Unfortunately, you can only find out about card payments from €20 on site. (If you call or order online you will be surprised)

We came to eat pizza and honestly the pizza wasn't bad. But I was never happy with the treatment we received. It was a mistake to go there with a crowd as the area is very small. We ordered 3 margaritas and 1 4 cheese pizza. 3 margaritas came from the front. Then, after the chef said that one of them was a 4 cheese pizza, the waiter started looking for a pizza at our table. And then came our real cheese pizza, which had nothing to do with the others. Beer also came, even though we didn't order it. Definitely a place where the communication is wrong 👎

One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever visited

When I payed 9€ and asked for my money back (7.5€ is the sum) the waiter grabbed my armed with force and told me to watch out. Police didn't help because it's "only" 1.50€. Awful restaurant. Corrupt police. Full responsibility for my words.

We ordered pizza to take away. The preparation was beautiful to see - fresh before our eyes and baked directly on the stone, without a tray. The pizza tasted okay, not a highlight, but good.

First class service and atmosphere situated beside Hackerbrücke station. Linguine special at €20.50 had two prawns and the spaghetti carbonara was just pasta.

We often went there during our lunch break. Food is very tasty. Recently there has apparently been a surcharge of 1 euro if you request chili oil. Does salt and pepper cost extra? This service means that long-time guests suddenly stop coming.

We can highly recommend this restaurant. After a very tiring day, we originally wanted to go to another restaurant to eat. Due to a breakdown on the tram we ended up in this nice restaurant. We were warmly greeted by a waiter and were immediately offered a table in the shade, which was perfect in the heat. My children's needs were met without being asked and I can say that I haven't eaten this well in a long time. Thanks for the nice service and the good food.

Unfortunately, I've only been able to drink a beer here twice now, but: the waiters are very accommodating (even if a bit professionally reserved), quick and very polite. The menu makes a good impression and arouses interest. I'll give another update after I can say something about the food. P.S.: the beer garden is great

Gave one star as the food was OK. Otherwise a terrible experience on our first night in Munich. We stood at the entrance for 5 min and none of the staff came (the group behind us left which was probably a wise choice). We sat down for 10 min and the server finally came, extremely impatient and rude when I asked for his recommendation, and as I was deciding between two menu items he just left without saying anything and came back after another 10 min to finish taking our order… After we ordered the food, someone else delivered one dish and as we were eating, our server came with two other plates, frowned when he saw that we have one dish on the table already and just took away my plate AS I WAS EATING - no apologies, nothing, as if it was our fault that they delivered the wrong order. Having found out they accept cash only when we asked for the bill - we suggested that in the future this be told to customers when they enter the restaurant, and the server simply ignored and left. This is just not how you should treat your customers.

My visit to this cafe was a disaster. The service was terrible and the waitress was extremely rude. We said from the start that we just wanted a drink. Nevertheless, we were seated at a table and had to wait about 10 minutes until a waiter came to us. When he found out that we only wanted to order drinks, he reacted very rudely and said we only had half an hour. We ordered two light beers but were brought a light beer and a lager. When paying, we wanted to pay by card, but we were refused because card payments were only possible from 20 euros - we hadn't been told that beforehand. We explained that we were taking two bottles of beer to go, whereupon the waiter rudely said that the ATM was 100 meters away and simply went to other tables. Finally we had to pay at the counter. This was the worst experience in Munich!

Was für ein tolles Erlebnis! Wegen schlechten Wetters waren wir „innen“. Sehr schön gestaltetes Lokal mit schönen Tischdecken und geschmackvoller Pflanzengestaltung sorgten für das richtige Ambiente. Nach geteilter Vorspeise aus der Vitrine (alles ok., aber dazu Pizzabrot statt Weißbrot wäre noch eindrucksvoller gewesen) gönnten wir uns beide je eine Portion Tagliatelle mit Safran, die Soße bestand aus Baby-Scampis (sogar 2 große dabei) Steinpilzen, Cherrytomaten und Weißweinsoße: der absolute Übertraum! Zu schade für die Tageskarte - das sollte als Standardgericht Einzug halten. Für und eine der besten Pastagerichte in über 60 Jahren Erfahrungszeit. Natürlich wollten wir dieses Lokal voll auskosten. Also bestellten wir beide je eine Pannacotta. Diese was mit fischen Erdbeeren und Fruchtsalat gereicht, crema di Balsamico rundete alles prima ab. Wir komnen sicher bald wieder, auch weil der Service vorbildlich und die Preisgestaltung fair war. Danke!

I've been twice and I can say that everything was perfect 👍

We always enjoyed going to this restaurant, but this time our visit was very unpleasant. The waiter who brought our drinks rolled his eyes in annoyance after we couldn't remember the exact name of the white wine we ordered. One person's starter came almost at the same time as everyone else's main course. After the starter, we waited over an hour for the main course (pizzas), while everyone else had already finished their food. We kept asking how far our food was and were always reassured with the words: “Coming soon!” We never had the feeling that he really cared about organizing our meal. Soon he stopped coming to our table, so we were forced to get up and find the waiter ourselves. He turned around twice and ran away after we made eye contact and it was obvious that we would like to talk to him. After we were able to talk to him, our pizzas arrived after more than an hour without any apology. When paying we politely explained that we thought it was taking a bit long. The waiter then told us that this could happen sometimes and that next time we should say when ordering that we would like the main courses together. So apparently it was our fault that the food was so late. We never received an apology for the long wait. Waiting times can always arise and this should not be criticized here. Of course, it can sometimes happen that an order is forgotten. But actively avoiding customers and ultimately not even being able to apologize for the inconvenience has absolutely nothing to do with service.

We went there for lunch. We wanted to sit outside since the weather was OK but the communication with the waiter was not the best. The service was kind of slow. We had the pasta delizioso and the salmon pizza. The pasta was SO delicious and the pizza was good. Would definitely go again. The atmosphere is very nice both outside and inside. The prices are average. Recommended!!

Amazing Italian food, fast service and kind people!

The pizzas, pasta and panini were all very tasty, and the service was very friendly and accommodating. Recommend it to anyone coming to Munich. You definitely have to go there. Location is central on the Hackerbrücke very close to the main train station. Recommendation definitely goes out.

Delicious food and very fast and courteous service.

Had a saltimbocca here today. Unfortunately the meat was completely fried, dry and tough. As a courtesy and because I'm not a fan of throwing it away, I ate it. Good thing there was sauce. Unfortunately, the vegetables and potatoes didn't see any seasoning. I'm not sure if you're thinking of good Italian herbs here. Unfortunately, the waiter was so uninterested that a comment from this gentleman would have been irrelevant. I hope the boss reads this and passes it on to the kitchen.

Pizza was completely soggy in the middle AND burnt on the edge. Service is quick and competent with a pre-ordered menu. Ambience and location are good, easily accessible.

Wir waren zu Dritt zum Mittagessen im Restaurant II Casagno. Bis auf den Kellner, der uns am 24. August 2016 um 13:00 Uhr bedient hat, war nichts zu beanstanden. Bei Ankunft am Restaurant wurden uns nur zwei Menükarten vom Kellner gereicht. Aber das kann ja schließlich auch mal vorkommen. Beim ordern der Rechnung wollte einer von uns mit der EC-Karte bezahlen, worauf sich der Kellner wie folgt äußerte: "Ja merkt man schon, dass es zum Monatsende hin geht!". Danach waren wir das erste mal geschockt und guckten uns fragend an, ob er das wirklich gesagt hatte. Dies war jedoch nicht die Spitze des Eisberges. Als er dann mit dem Beleg und dem EC-Lesegerät am Tisch erschienen ist, legte der Kellner noch mal nach: "Ich finde es schon traurig, dass man EUR 10,00 mit Karte zahlen muss. Wir haben hier doch keine amerikanischen Verhältnisse, wo Centbeträge mit der Karte bezahlt werden." Aufgrund der Fachkompetenz des Kellners, werden wir in Zukunft DIESES RESTAURANT NICHT MEHR AUFSUCHEN ODER WEITEREMPFEHLEN. UPDATE: Nach 7 Jahren kommt nun anwaltlich die Anfrage über Google die Bewertung zu löschen! Pfui!

At the friendly reminder of the restaurant ("We want to see your review deleted"), here are my impressions: The staff was unfriendly and kept us waiting for a long time, even though the restaurant was not full. There were two of us. It was not possible to order a drink again because no one came. We went for a drink straight after. The salad we ordered was quite small, the pizza had been ready for a while and was kept warm. I cannot recommend a visit at that time. I can't judge what it's like now. I never went there again.

Ich werde rechtlich dazu aufgefordert mein Review zu belegen. Ich war vor 4 Jahren Kunde da und soll nun, vier Jahre später, meine Kundschaft beweisen. Ein Witz. ** Pizza was tasty, although it contained a bit too much cheese which made it quite a liquid experience. Service rather disinterested, to not say unfriendly. One star as they told my wife (she was paying while I was in the restroom) that an obligatory tip has to be paid. The amount was random (not a percentage, nor a fixed round amount, but some random rounding up) and clearly not a service fee. My wife accepted to pay it as (first time in Germany) she was assuming it was normal. Looking back we both feel cheated even we would have given some tip (as we normally do). Reading the comments here it seems to me that this is a way to get some extra money from foreigners.
