Restaurant Goldener Hahn in Chemnitz

Unfortunately it's no longer what it once was. Unfortunately, the food on a weekday left a lot to be desired, although we felt it was much better on the weekend. The interaction where the guest is a paying customer was not possible at all, the tone should be adapted to the age of the guests, not everyone likes a cool 'you'

Four of us were at the Goldener Hahn late one Saturday afternoon in March. Not even half the tables were occupied. The service was okay (until we ordered, then they were mostly busy elsewhere), the ambiance was rustic (narrow benches, low table edges, overall quite cramped), but also okay. The food was rather disappointing. A mushroom pan consisting of a 10cm metal dish should be ashamed of its name. The frozen vegetables and mushrooms would certainly have been happy with spaetzle, but they were only 5cm long strips of pasta. The asparagus was okay, the schnitzel was probably cut against the grain (sharp knives would have been helpful). There are better hollandaise sauces. At least the food was hot.

We ate at the "Goldener Hahn" restaurant on a Thursday and had a very positive experience overall. Ambiance: The ambience is beautifully designed both inside and outside and invites you to linger. Accessibility: I was there with a wheelchair user. A small edge had to be overcome, but this was possible without any problems. Service: The service was extremely friendly and accommodating. What was particularly pleasant was that she was also up for a joke, which made the atmosphere even more pleasant. Food: The food was excellent and deserves high praise. The quality and taste completely convinced us. Conclusion: “The Goldener Hahn” is a very good restaurant that absolutely deserves its good reputation. I can recommend her without hesitation and will happily come back.

I just wanted to buy a voucher. Unfortunately, I was told quite abruptly and unfriendly that vouchers can only be purchased in cash, which unfortunately I couldn't do at that moment, but only by debit. Without a polite apology or kinder words, I was simply dismissed rudely. I immediately rejected the voucher idea and will not dine there myself. Too bad.

The mushroom pan for €16.50 is so small that it should be listed under “for small appetites” or something like that. It comes in a small bowl where side dishes usually come for main dishes

Today for Valentine's Day I invited my partner to eat at this inn. We weren't disappointed, schnitzel and sauerbraten were absolutely tasty, according to an old recipe as we know it!! You don't actually need the mushroom soup mhhhh, dumplings and fried potatoes as a side dish. The red cabbage for the sauerbraten was the best thing I have ever eaten. We'll definitely come back

Back home again after about 40 years. I love this place that has been family owned for 275 years. At the gates of the city of Chemnitz, at the foot of the Ore Mountains, this rustic inn combines everything that defines the Ore Mountains! Warm hospitality, lovingly authentic furnishings and original regional cuisine impress residents and visitors of the Ore Mountains. Each dish is comparable to the arts that you used to only be able to enjoy at Grandma's. Saxon sauerbraten, beef roulades and schnitzel are just as original as hearty fried potatoes, homemade dumplings and red cabbage. The highlight, however, is always the game dishes and the fresh wild mushrooms of the wooded region. Even home-style cuisine can be so special that you'll want to plan your next visit as soon as you leave.

An institution for us for years. Delicious home-style food, good prices, friendly service, cozy atmosphere. We always enjoy coming here. Keep it up 👍

Since I live abroad, I had to wait a few years for it to work out again so that I could enjoy the sauerbraten here. The wait was worth it, in the 5 days that I was here I went to the Golden Rooster twice. The red cabbage and dumplings were also delicious. Highly recommended.

Well organized service despite fairly good capacity utilization. Delicious and fresh cuisine. All special requests were taken into account.

We were there on a Saturday evening and easily got a table for two. The ambience is very nice from the outside and inside anyway. The service was friendly and attentive, only our main courses were brought farther apart, which was a bit inconvenient. The starter was a very good spicy meat and a wild mushroom soup. This didn't quite suit my taste as it was too pureed for me. I would have liked it better with more whole mushrooms. My companion's duck was classically prepared and tasted good, my schnitzel was a bit small and very thick and could have been juicier. Portions were large enough. Overall, good home-style food with classic dishes and preparation methods.

Incredibly delicious food, which is beautifully presented. The portion of fries for our kids alone included half a fig, a piece of melon and a slice of orange. Our goulash was a dream. The meat was very tender. Luckily we got a place without a reservation. The waitresses are very nice, child-friendly and really quick. Highly recommended!

The food was poor quality and the selection was poor. There was only pork to choose from. There was a piece of melon, which unfortunately drowned in the sauce and was therefore inedible. All in all, it's not worth its price and reputation

It has been a popular guesthouse not only for our family for many years. The landlord and his employees are very friendly and accommodating. The facility exudes coziness thanks to the lovingly designed decoration, which also applies to the beer garden and outdoor area. The food is always very tasty and there is absolutely nothing to complain about about the service. The only problem is that there is no disabled toilet. The general toilet facilities are kept very clean, but on the first floor the steps there are torture for me too. We will continue to be happy guests.

Had dinner today for the first time in a long time. And we were totally satisfied again. Very, very nice and fast service. The food is delicious, hearty home cooking. We always enjoy coming back, unfortunately we live too far away. We can only recommend it. Thank you for the little break.

As usual, cozy with good service. The food was extremely good, home-style cooking prepared with a lot of love and taste. The outstanding brawn is still made there in-house, and THAT'S why we always enjoy eating there. Keep it up, please!!!! 😉

All in all - average. The food could do with more spice, the decor doesn't seem particularly inviting and the service could also be a bit friendlier.

During the GDR era, I went there several times to eat with grandma and grandpa. Now with my husband. Unfortunately I have to deduct a few stars. One star deducted when eating because the asparagus spears were so incredibly thick and strawy that it was almost impossible to chew them. And 2 points for the service that loudly spread their privacy throughout the restaurant. That made the visit a bit, well, not pleasant.

We hiked to the Goldener Hahn for Father's Day. As always, the inn was open. We "only" had Roster in Brotl and a beer, but it tasted great, the service was great as always and everything was open despite the lack of staff on the holiday. Can you just take off your hat and say thank you very much....

The Goldener Hahn on Zschopauer Straße in Chemnitz is a popular excursion destination. Parking is available on site and on warmer days you can sit in the outdoor area. The surface is a bit unfavorable - coarse gravel. There are simple wooden chairs or benches placed at the tables, spices and cutlery are on the tables, simple but chic. The service is friendly, fast and helpful. There is a very good range of food, from home cooking to seasonal dishes. The food is tasty and lovingly prepared and is served well presented. The price range for the dishes ranges from around €10 to €22 and the portions are plentiful. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday is a day off! 👍🍺🍛

Sat outside in summer weather. Delicious, but the waiting time was not reasonable despite the low number of visitors (3/4 hours). Still recommended.

Very nice atmospheric place. I came by on my motorcycle just to drink a beer without alcohol, the gentleman who served me was a bit rude or surprised that I only bought beer. The look on his face was as if he had seen someone from Mars.

We haven't been to Goldeben Hahn for ages. Nice service, good food, it was worth making the journey through the forest from Einsiedel. We definitely won't wait that long again.

We came here on a Sunday evening without a performance. A sign with the word "freshly slaughtered" or something similar lured us off the street. Due to the reservations, our stay was limited to 40 minutes. A steak with seasoned meat took a little longer, but the second steak reached the table burnt. The mushroom noodles were manageable for the price and also didn't look fresh. I'm sorry if I can't leave a good review here. For historical reasons, because I am a native of the region, I would have expected better food. I will give the restaurant a second chance on my next visit, but was rather disappointed with this visit.

Anyone who has been here once always comes back. Just home cooking at its finest. Large portions and good prices. The staff is always friendly, no matter how full the room can be. It's lucky that something like this still exists.

The staff was always attentive and courteous without being intrusive. Questions were answered in a friendly and competent manner, and it was clear that people were working here with passion. Delicious food at fair prices: The menu offers a diverse selection of dishes, all freshly prepared with attention to detail. We chose the farmer's breakfast and the brawn, both of which tasted excellent. The portions were more than sufficient and the prices were absolutely fair. Positive conclusion: The visit to the Goldener Hahn restaurant was a complete success. The food was delicious, the staff friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere cozy and inviting. We will definitely come back and can recommend the Goldener Hahn restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food and friendly service.

Great food for decades. Always worth a visit and you can also celebrate carnival.

Very friendly, quick service, delicious food (German cuisine) and moderate prices. It is recommended to pre-order. Especially at lunchtime you can take a walk in the forest opposite and enjoy the view. The menu is very diverse. The upstairs room can be used for family celebrations, and the taproom downstairs is very cozy.

There is no vegetarian food on the menu, but everything is possible upon request. Was delicious. Dumplings with mushrooms 😋

F.'s long, detailed report prompted me to write a "rebuttal". As a resident of Exchemnitz, I have been coming to the Goldener Hahn from far away for years (!), even if I have to take a detour. On my many short vacations, especially here in Thuringia and also in Saxony, I see that there is currently a wave of closures in the restaurants - whether this is due to Corona or other reasons remains to be seen. But try taking a spontaneous trip and then just go out to eat somewhere. That doesn't work. It takes a lot of logistical skill and is possible using digital media to find a restaurant - but they are usually closed. Not so in the Goldener Hahn. Reliable for years, always the usual menu (yes, that can be a good thing too) and you know what to expect: good, down-to-earth home cooking. The current operators and staff are extremely fast, the waitress is the prototype of a service as you would imagine. Extremely fast, very concentrated, eloquent and quick-witted and very friendly towards the guest. We've never had to wait long there, even though it's always full. And because last weekend in Rochsburg, where we were on vacation, there was no (!) open restaurant on Saturdays except for a hopelessly overbooked Italian restaurant, we drove the 3/4 hour to Chemnitz and had a great evening. There is no turning away guests, if necessary the party continues upstairs in the hall... Opinions are divided everywhere about how to cook sauerkraut - we happen to like it exactly the way it is served there...not too sour and a little thick. The battle weeks are a blast anyway. Where do you go to all this trouble? And fresh corrugated meat and everything that goes with it. We very much hope that the inn will continue like this for a long time and that it will survive all crises and that the staff will not lose interest...where the food is good, a lot of people will come, so make a reservation in advance if possible.

I know the Golden Hahn from my student days and can only say that it always has good food for little money and friendly service. I or we will probably be guests at Hahn more often now

Lockerer freundlicher Service.Hatten nicht reserviert und bekamen für 1 Stunde einen Tisch (Sonntag Abend 17.30 Uhr).Diese Zeit war ausreichend für ein Getränk und für das Essen.Denn beides wurde zügig serviert. Uns hat das Essen sehr gut geschmeckt. Portion ausreichend und gut abgeschmeckt.

Wie immer bei euch ein Erlebnis und für unsre Gäste aus der Ferne jedesmal ein besonderes Highlight!!! Danke für die schöne Zeit!!!

Sehr gute Hausmannskost, nette Bedienung, wir kehren gerne und oft hier ein.

Gutes Essen, Tisch reservieren lassen ist sinnvoll. Klassische Speisekarte.. also vegetarisches eher nicht. Aber die Küche ist flexibel. Auch Vegetarier werden satt.
