Ratsstube in Chemnitz

When I occasionally visit friends back home, we always go out for dinner at different restaurants. The Ratsstube is supposed to be the successor to the Ratskeller, but unfortunately, it has absolutely nothing in common with it anymore. My Würzfleisch (a type of stew) as a starter was the best part, even though it could have used a bit more heat. As for the Sauerbraten that followed, I know that in some restaurants, various side dishes are heated up at the start of the kitchen and then kept warm for hours. But the red cabbage, sorry, it was actually overcooked, slightly mushy, with no structure left in it, not even chewing necessary. The taste was okay, though. The Sauerbraten itself was incredibly tender, which I would have enjoyed if the meat had been cut against the grain instead of with it. It's a shame; they could have simply asked me during the meal, and I would have let them know... so I had to deliver this criticism when they cleared my plate. I don't know if the young man really understood me; he didn't seem to pass it on to the kitchen or even care. ... And then there are some real no-gos for me in the restaurant business. Goose belongs on the table starting on St. Martin's Day, November 11th. And not for weeks beforehand. Period. And please, people, Chemnitz is located at the foot of the Ore Mountains; many people have migrated from here and still adhere to certain traditional customs! Christmas decorations and especially Advent lights only after the Sunday of the Dead! All in all, there was one thing missing at the Ratsstube that I couldn't see, feel, or taste anywhere, and that was the love for the job, the passion for the restaurant, that certain something extra that makes you want to go back... Sorry.

Here too, we were a large group and sat in a private room. The Saxon Sauerbraten is highly recommended. The dessert was also quite delicious.

I think, without calling myself a gourmet, that anyone with a little knowledge of the food will notice that probably nothing, or not much, is homemade here. The prices are quite high, though. The service is good, the ambiance is nice, but that's not what defines a restaurant; it's the taste – which was completely lacking here.

A personalized welcome, a personalized approach, and truly homely food. We felt very well looked after and would return there any day.

Fantastic ambiance. The food is 5 out of 5 stars. Large portions and good, home-style cooking. The staff deserves 6 out of 5 stars. Super friendly service without being intrusive. This is what gastronomy should be like in 2025. I'd go back anytime.

First, the positive: The service was very quick and attentive despite the large number of guests that evening. Regarding the ambiance, I can say it's very large. Perhaps even too large for a council chamber. I had perhaps imagined something quaint and smaller. Still, it's attractive. It seems that mostly older people dine here. Hence, one star deducted (personal opinion!). The prices are perfectly reasonable, and the portions are good too! Now for the negative: I had a table right next to the restroom door, where it seemed like people were going in and out every few seconds. There was nothing negative to be noticed in terms of smell, though! Regarding the food, we know that tastes differ. I had the smoked pork loin steak with hearty bacon sauerkraut and Bohemian dumplings. The meat was extremely salty in my opinion, so I spent more time drinking than eating. The sauerkraut was a bit too "mushy" for me and tasted nothing special. There was also a sauce, but the saltiness of the meat made it tasteless. The plate was garnished with a few orange slices (why?) and a lettuce leaf. Overall, it felt like a cafeteria to me. Or maybe I just had the wrong dish at the wrong time.

Last week, we were in Chemnitz with friends. They had suggested the Ratsstube for dinner. We received a warm welcome at the entrance, and a lovely table was reserved for us. That evening, Jan-Peer Hartig was assigned to serve 'our' area. Besides the chefs preparing a wonderful dinner, Jan-Peer took truly excellent care of us. Not just us, but all the guests, whose well-being he was responsible for that evening. It was a pleasure to see how much he loves and lives his job. Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful evening!

The food was okay, as were the drinks, but you have to be prepared for plenty of time. The food arrived after about 1.5-2 hours, and the first drinks after half an hour.

This was my first and last time here. It could be nice; the place has a classy, ​​rustic feel. Unfortunately, the service and my overpriced meal were abysmal. I was there with a group of about 10 people who had made a reservation. I waited a long time for the menu to arrive, and even longer for all the drinks orders to arrive at the table. Meanwhile, several appetizers arrived at the table. The abusive waiter, Mr. Hartig, doesn't respond to signals and keeps rushing past, even though the place is very quiet. My small fish fillet tasted old and was too salty. When I paid, he was very rude and wanted me to add more to my bill and wanted to take my credit card into his own hands. Absolutely outrageous. The bad taste of the old pike-perch fillet remained.

Apparently a nice location. We didn't have a reservation and were allowed to leave, even though the next room was practically empty and other colleagues were seated without any discussion. What a pity.

Nice ambiance. Friendly and very personable staff. Food is very good! Visited again today, and it's still very nice here. Only the red cabbage could be better, in my opinion. It has an industrial feel, while the Sauberbraten (roast beef) was very tasty, tender, and soft.

After initially reserved service, it improved over the course of our stay. A toothpick was served along with the cutlery. Where else do you get that? The staff even volunteered to bring more sauce. That's the first time I've ever experienced that here 😁 The prices are high but reasonable, the portions are more than sufficient, and the taste is truly exquisite. This is definitely a place to go!

For us, this is one of the best restaurants in Chemnitz. Why? 1. The selection of meals, the preparation, and the prices are top-notch. It's a restaurant where your palate is completely satisfied, all for a reasonable price. 2. The interior is beautifully designed. Everything appears lovingly designed without being overly overdone. 3. Service is a top priority. We always had excellent table service who were courteous, professionally competent, and responsive to individual requests. Conclusion: Anyone looking for a home-style restaurant in the city center with a good menu and affordable for the middle class can visit the Ratsstube Chemnitz without hesitation. We are very satisfied and wish the entire team many more successful years.

Nice outdoor area; we had dinner there with five people. We made a reservation in advance just in case. Drinks and food arrived quickly, but unfortunately, my medium rump steak was pretty much cooked. Maybe I should have said something. The mushroom sauce wasn't very tasty either.

I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately I was completely disappointed. I had reserved seats; the weather was good, so I was happy to sit outside. We were supposed to choose a table. Unfortunately, the guest and I were supposed to take assigned seats. But we didn't. Two minutes later, and they were supposed to ask for a drink. Then after 17 minutes, they asked. The food arrived. My guest got lukewarm roulade and old white dumplings. My steak was a dry schnitzel. The ragout fin was tasty, but only the fries were hot. It took 20 minutes to order a herb sauce. It took 25 minutes to pay at the end. I walked past eight times, even though my wallet was on the table; I couldn't pay at the cash register. The waiter said I'd be right there. She walked back. She left with food, but she returned with empty plates. In the end, orders were taken from two more tables. The table in front of them had their order taken, food brought, and the plates emptied. I've never experienced anything like that there. And I'm inviting my guest there too. I'm never coming back. Two hours for nothing. A waste of time. Never again. And all without a smile, and without any kindness from the lady. How can it be, even in warm weather? Take a leaf out of your colleagues' book.

Good food. Be careful with the waitress (male). He was very polite before paying. When I paid by card, he asked for a supper. He gave me €1.50. He took €1 and said it was too little. Otherwise, they should bring a chef and a waitress!!! What's the point? In Germany, everything is inclusive of VAT and service. Conclusion There are enough good restaurants in Chemnitz. You don't have to put yourself through this.

I had a great experience at Ratsstube on Monday. The new waiter, a young gentleman, was very friendly and professional. He was attentive, served our food quickly, and always had a smile. It made our visit even more pleasant.

We were lucky that there were very few customers at this restaurant on a Wednesday lunchtime. The service was very friendly, quick, and child-friendly. We felt very comfortable. The restrooms were also very clean, but the route there was very inconvenient and not very well signposted.

I like going to the Ratsstube. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Even the new staff is always friendly and puts in a lot of effort. You just feel welcome here.

How one person can ruin a business. We went here 2 times. First day very late evening and the older waiter, whoms name i sadly dont know, was extremely good. He made it so that we were able to order upto 21u15. Which is extremely late since they close at 22u00. Nevertheless main course and dessert. Big thanks to this waiter for the perfect customer experience. Then the next day, we reserved for a party of 9 people outside. When arriving we had no reserved table outside, nor inside. The younger waiter wanted to put two tables together however an older female waiter, Jackie named i believe, refused. Although the terras outside had only 4 used tables, we were not allowed to sit outside, we were forced to sit inside. The one reserved table outside... had a no show. And while we were having dinner inside, upon going outside for a smoke, i noticed for another party they DID couple 2 tables. I spoke to the older waitress and expressed our grievance of her client unfriendly attitude and unprofessionalism. Besides a sorry which wasnt helpfull anymore, she disappeared for the rest of the service. Would i advise to go here. Mixed feelings. If you see an older male waiter, then absolutely go for it. If it is the older female, keep on walking.

Ok, but I was expecting more. Very dark place, with no cosy atmosphere to eat. Even a dark made interior can be interesting and nice for evening (absolutely not to eat lunch). Plastic flowers and plastic candles on the tables. Food was good, but nothing that makes this restaurant unforgettable. Waiters were very nice and friendly, our food arrived in a good time and served pretty ok.

Who would have expected something like this near Chemnitz! We were there on a Friday evening and enjoyed the extensive menu, a grand voyage. The ambiance is homely and pleasant, with tables set well apart. From the amuse-bouche to the petit fours, one flavor explosion after another. Everything was perfectly coordinated, from the liver sausage sandwich to the sea trout, langoustine, guinea fowl, and even the French bread before the espresso: seemingly everyday flavors are redefined and combined in such a skillful way that unusual, surprising flavor moments arise. The service is very attentive, reserved when necessary, and present at every moment. As it should be. We would like to thank you for a wonderful, highly worthy evening.

Recommended for large groups. We were a large group of about 50 people there for business. We selected our dishes in advance, so the evening went smoothly without long waits. The food was good, and so was the service.

Quite centrally located with good public transport connections. The restaurant is very large and very busy (reservations are essential), but the noise level is also quite high :( The varied menu includes good German cuisine, as well as vegetarian dishes with Asian flavors. The restaurant is very nice and welcoming. Very well furnished in typical German rustic style. Generally they eat typical German cuisine but now that the city is the European capital of culture they have changed the menu and have also added international dishes. However, there are still some typical German dishes on the menu. The staff is very kind and helpful. A bottle of mineral water costs 6 euros, while in other restaurants it is more expensive.

This restaurant offers very good hearty food. The atmosphere is very cozy and the waiters and waitresses were very concerned about our well-being. We had lunch here with family at Easter. It tasted very good and the portions were plentiful. If you like home-style food, you should definitely visit the Ratsstube.

With a friend we visited the council chamber in Chemnitz. The new but historic-looking furnishings are immediately impressive, especially the impressive ceiling design. Since we wanted to talk undisturbed, we were recommended a table that was a little isolated, where we sat comfortably and, upon request, the service informed us about the history of the restaurant and its move from the Ratskeller to the new "Ratsstube". We were well informed when choosing food and drinks and even a major change to the chosen dish was no problem. We received food and drinks in a reasonable time. The selected dishes were of very good quality, cooked to perfection and well seasoned for an average taste. For example, if you love hellish spiciness, you might not want to try your luck in a restaurant that offers fine German cuisine. The sanitary facilities are a short journey from the guest room, but they are well maintained and sparkling clean. As a highlight, the Ratsstube also offers a smoking lounge, which was expressly recommended to us by the Zigarrenkontor, our trusted tobacconist. Anyone looking for sophisticated hospitality in a chic ambience should definitely give the Ratstube a chance; you can also eat here with guests without hesitation. We'd love to come back.

3 different courts. The meat was very dry in all of them, including the peas in the Steak Au Four. When it came to seasoned meat, the pieces of meat were very large. Cannot recommend the restaurant.

Four of us went here for lunch on Sunday. The first thing I noticed was the wheelchair lift in the entrance area. We were welcomed here. The elevator worked perfectly. We immediately noticed the elaborate furniture in the guest room. In conversation with a very nice waitress, I learned about the history of the building and also about the origin of the furniture. It came from the old Chemnitz Ratskeller. A big compliment to the kitchen staff and the service. The council chamber makes an extremely well-kept and clean impression to me. Three rooms are available for celebrations. The dishes consist of “home-style” German cuisine. For me as a wheelchair user, it is important that there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet and that is the case here. In short, it was a successful stay with the best lunch in Chemnitz. I also have to mention the ambience and especially the service again. Today it's the way waiters behave towards guests, the way they behave towards disabled people... That defies description. Of course they are black sheep, but they should learn something from the council chambers. Here is a particularly positive example of a restaurant management where everything is just right. The staff and the guest are happy, and the boss seems to be doing well too. Everything fits here.

First of all, a clear tip from me for a visit. Nice ambience, great service and delicious food. The service was friendly, attentive and yet reserved. I thought it was really great. The prices of the food are more than reasonable. A bit too cheap for me. The beef carpaccio and the knuckle tasted great for me. My wife's veal liver was fried to perfection. A fine restaurant in the heart of Chemnitz.

We visited with friends on Saturday and the atmosphere was really nice! The service came to our table quickly and was super nice! The drinks and food came quickly too! Unfortunately my sauerbraten was a failure! Very dry and tough, unfortunately the red cabbage was too weak for me! But the sauce was very tasty and the plates were beautifully presented!

Wonderful ambience, typical German Ratskeller! The service, as you would expect... attentive and courteous, but not pandering. The wine service was like I learned at vocational school and the food was really great anyway. I had a classic seasoned meat with original Dresden Worcestershire sauce and pork head aspic. Unfortunately, at some point nothing fits in anymore😀Even the smoking lounge, which is otherwise so often badly neglected, is furnished with attention to detail (leather furniture, flat screen and piano). Thank you for this gastronomic highlight in Chemnitz!

I would like to leave a review here after lunch today. The restaurant offers a very high-quality ambience, the menu is very varied and every guest will find something there. The starter and main course I chose were very good. What really stood out positively was the outstanding service. The waiter was super nice, friendly and attentive at all times, sweetened our stay with discreetly witty and funny comments without seeming pushy or cheap. As a guest, you could tell that he enjoys his work and knows his craft. Keep it up!
