We celebrated our civil wedding at the Freigeist restaurant last week. There were 23 of us and we had the Knight's Hall to ourselves. It was perfect for us; we had a wonderful day. From the initial consultation to the day itself, everything was uncomplicated, and everyone was very pleasant to talk to. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the service was excellent. All of our guests received consistently positive feedback. We would celebrate here again! Thank you so much for such a successful celebration!

I can't understand the negative reviews at all. Today was our first time at your place. We've read the often low-key comments and tell ourselves we'll form our own opinions. What can we say...yummy. Everything was top-notch, superb quality, a 4-course menu for a reasonable price. There was nothing to complain about. We can certainly eat out for less, but quality costs a bit more. If everyone who gives negative reviews here knows so much, which I find more than unfair, they should save their money and cook for themselves. Good food doesn't sit heavily on the stomach. I don't want to leave restaurants stuffed, but rather be able to remember how good it was for days afterward. Keep up the good work, and the service is fine. Young people who are motivated and really try hard. And then there's the basil ice cream 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

We could barely move around the table we were assigned because everything was extremely cramped. There were plenty of empty tables all around that were supposedly reserved. The food was okay, the salad a bit salty, and the sauce on the schnitzel was sweet. The burger could have used more seasoning. The service was friendly.

We celebrated our wedding at Freigeist last week, and we were more than satisfied. 🙂 We had a wonderful day 🥰 The arrangements in advance went very well, and our individual wishes were taken into account. The tables on site were decorated according to our wishes (we provided the decorations), and everything was beautifully prepared. The food was delicious. I didn't have time for more photos of the meal 😂 so there are only pictures of the appetizer. The service was very good and they also accommodated our various drink requests. I can highly recommend it, even for larger parties. Unfortunately, some visitors to the Ebernburg castle skillfully ignored the "private party" sign, so we had to ask them to leave our area. But the Freigeist team couldn't do anything about that 😉

Upscale ambience and a beautiful view of the countryside and the rock face from the terrace.

The restaurant uses regional produce. The menu is very straightforward. You should ask your server for detailed information when choosing a dish. Pork was the predominant meat, but beef, poultry, and vegetables are also available. There's also a great wine list. You can also dine outside and enjoy the beautiful view. Unfortunately, the restaurant's rear terrace isn't always open due to staffing shortages.

Great location, delicious food – but somewhat chaotic service We ate at Freigeist with my husband and his parents. The food was truly delicious, and the view from the castle is simply stunning. The prices are on the higher side. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow and distracted – friendly, but not very attentive and forgetful! The clientele tends to be older, which makes for a quiet atmosphere. On nice days, it can get quite crowded due to tourism – but the terrace with its view is all the more worthwhile. We'll definitely be back, hopefully outside in good weather!

We were able to celebrate today as wedding guests at this special venue and were absolutely thrilled! Despite the ongoing daily business and several parallel events, everything was incredibly well organized. You could sense the professionalism and passion that goes into the work here at all times. The chef has such a refined palate that you're almost certain he could earn a Michelin star if he put his mind to it. We were particularly impressed by the rosemary panna cotta—the subtle, delicate flavor of the rosemary was masterfully balanced and made the dessert a true highlight. The service was also excellent, especially the waiter with the striking bracelets who was attentive, warm, and always there to help. A little tip for the team: Don't take the negative online reviews from some other guests to heart—they clearly have no idea what they're doing. We, for one, were absolutely thrilled and would love to come back. Thank you so much for this unforgettable evening!

It was our first time there for a special occasion, and it was just what we needed. It's something special. Very attentive staff, a good menu, and top quality! If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, this is the place.

We didn't get to eat, so I can't rate it. I came with my wife and children to "eat." We arrived at 6:10 p.m. The sun was shining and very hot, and we were assigned a seat in the blazing sun. Customers who arrived shortly after us were given free seating. We had to wait 15 minutes before we were noticed and given our menus. We ordered drinks, two salads, and a burger. Then we had to wait. We got our drinks 10 minutes later. Thirty minutes later, four more tables next to us filled up. It took relatively little time for these tables to be served with drinks and food. And we had to wait even longer. My children (8 and 2) became impatient and whiny; after all, it was hot and they were hungry. No one paid us any attention, and after over 100 minutes, I asked for the bill and that we didn't need any more food. The waiter gave us a cheeky smile and then, without comment, charged us full price for our drinks. No apology, no discount for the long wait. We'll never go here again.

5 Stars – A Hidden Gem Inside Castle Walls! Dining at the restaurant within the historic walls of Ebernburg Castle in Bad Münster am Stein was nothing short of magical. The ambiance alone—surrounded by centuries-old stone and a stunning view—sets the tone for an unforgettable experience.It’s a perfect location not from Kaiserslautern and definitely a place one has to visit. But let’s talk food: The appetizer of kandierter Ziegenkäse with Feigen-Senf and Rhabarber-Chutney was a dream—sweet, tangy, and perfectly balanced. And the Frühlingsschweineschnitzel with its homemade Kräuter-Parmesan crust was out of this world. Every bite was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. This place is a treasure. I honestly can’t wait to go back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an extraordinary dining experience in a fairytale setting.

We were here for a celebration with 55 people, and everything was fantastic. Very good and fair preparation, collaborative and reliable planning with the chef and head waiter in advance (via email, in direct conversations). Thanks to both of them and to the team! We and our guests really enjoyed the celebration! It was a "well-rounded affair"; it was exactly as we had imagined. The very carefully prepared and prepared food (meat and vegetarian with a feel-good factor), the stunning floral arrangements, the friendly service, the cleverly designed rooms. What's also important: the cuisine here is authentic, regional (from our area), nothing fake or overdone. Keep up the good work!!!

The restaurant is clean and beautifully located. A visit to Ebernburg is worthwhile for the view and a cool drink. But that's about it, unfortunately. The restaurant has a lot of untapped potential. The ambiance could be more beautifully presented. The food also reflects the restaurant's clear cost-cutting policy, which is disproportionate to the prices. You expect to be full when ordering a gourmet meal. Six small pieces of meat and a potato pancake with a spoonful of vegetables don't contribute to this. The quality of the food itself also leaves something to be desired. The crème brûlée wasn't crisp and was too runny. The rhubarb was carelessly cooked and slopped next to the whipped cream. I also had the feeling at times that I was being rushed, which was also due to the fact that my glasses were put away before they were even empty. You expect a lot and are ultimately only disappointed. Regarding the service, I found it disappointing that criticism was not addressed and simply dismissed. The picture of the creme brulee says it all (save to the max). Unfortunately, you can't post the taste, but it looked better than it tasted.

Mit Freundinnen habe ich Bad Kreuznach besucht und wir suchten nach einem schönen Abschluss für unser Pfingstwochenende und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Aus dem Speisezimmer hat man Rundumblick auf den Rotenfels. Wirklich beeindruckend. Das Speisezimmer ist stilvoll eingerichtet. Der Service gut und freundlich. Wir hatten 2 x das Menü ohne Suppe und 1 x Hauptspeise und Dessert. Das Menü war hervorragend und wundervoll auf dem Teller arrangiert. Sehr hochwertiges Fleisch, fast ein bisschen viel als Vorspeise. Wir hatten als Hauptspeise 2 x Wild und alles in hervoraggender Qualität und sehr ausreichend. Auch die dazu gereichten unterschiedlichen Gemüse und die Taler waren Klasse. Das Dessert haben wir dann nur noch mit Mühe geschafft, aber es war einfach zu lecker. Und auch die Weine waren sehr gut. Wir können den Freigeist vollen Herzens weiterempfehlen.

We celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday with 70 people at the Freigeist restaurant and had a wonderful party. The food was exceptionally good, and the service was always attentive, cheerful, and friendly. Special requests were always accommodated, and the prices were fair. I would definitely recommend it and thank you to the entire team :)

Apparently, "reservation" is just a fancy word on the wall here. We arrived on time – but our table was still firmly in the hands of the previous guests. So if you value organization, it's better to come without prior notice – you're guaranteed a surprise. We were then offered an alternative table by the entrance door, between the food counter and the restroom area, to bridge the estimated 30-minute wait. What an outrage!!! We then left...

0.7 liters of tap water for €7.50 speaks volumes…

I organized a dinner for a group of 30 people and a three-course menu the following day. Coordinating the food and service was seamless, as was fine-tuning on each day. The food and wine selection were praised by everyone. The dishes were beautifully presented and the service was very friendly. The food was prepared and served quickly, so the first person to arrive didn't have to wait long for the last person to have their meal, so everyone could start eating together. Highly recommended not only for groups but also for smaller, more intimate events. The view is the icing on the cake.

We received a very friendly welcome and were given a lovely table by the window with an impressive view... We were thrilled with the food... The cooking here is still done with attention to detail... The salad with the meal is second to none... The venison schnitzel... wowwww Great language... Friendly... authentic... 👌👍

We celebrated there as a private party in the Knight's Hall, preceded by a champagne reception on the outdoor terrace. Everything was perfect. From the planning and reservation to the menu selection and service. And the food is fantastic, too!

No, it is very expensive. We also only wanted coffee and cake, which weren't available, so we just ordered coffee. Despite asking, the coffee still wasn't there after three quarters of an hour. People around us were being served by the person we requested, but no coffee was brought to us. We then left. It seems as if you are just a guest to be served when you order food. What's more, the owner of the restaurant can't handle criticism; he rails against it instead of discussing the problem with his apparently incompetent staff. Here you are only a good guest if you eat a lot. I can't judge the food, we didn't eat anything. So Mr. Owner, think about it.!!

The restaurant's clear advantage is the view from the restaurant. The path to the castle and the view from the tables is very beautiful. The food was okay but not great. The salad was clearly missing sauce/dressing. The meat was very mixed and not tender. The prices are high and the drinks in particular are very overpriced. Update: I reduced the review from 4 stars to 1 after the owner's response. One for the view. I wrote clearly what was going on with a good review and received an unreasonable wrong answer. There were ten of us in the restaurant and the impression was consistent. Meat tough, salad as written, prices totally exorbitant. Beer price is exorbitant. The water served is tap water at an insane price per bottle. We still gave it 4 stars. However, the owner is in no way capable of criticism. Almost everyone who dares to give something worse than 5 stars receives a stupid answer. I recommend reading the responses to other reviews. It's simply disgusting what is secreted there as an answer. A person like that doesn't belong in public. We discussed it again in the group and will avoid the restaurant. Word like this gets around quickly.

Mit wunderschönen Blick auf den Rotenfels kann man hier angenehm speisen. Der Inhaber und Koch versteht sein Handwerk; der Service war jederzeit zuvorkommend. Die Ziegenkäse-Vorspeise ist sehr gut. Wir hatten allerdings etwas Pech mit dem 2erlei vom Biorind ( Gulasch und Braten). Der Gulasch war zu durchwachsen (Einkauf?) und der Braten etwas zäh. Das Risotto (Spargel) war keins, aber trotzdem lecker.

Nice location on the Ebernburg. Food was relatively expensive and the Glan burger was rather boring in taste. Young service staff had not yet been properly trained.

We didn't eat because - A lady at our table had to wait 1 hour for her salad with goat cheese - A family had to wait even longer for their food and finally left - 2 women got their food at completely different times (20 min.) - There is no more cake either - Non-alcoholic wheat was out High-priced restaurant, but the other circumstances don't do it justice. It's a shame, that was different...

We were guests here for the first time. The service was super nice and attentive, so we felt very comfortable right from the start. The view of the Rotenfels from the restaurant is amazing. Great atmosphere up there! As a main course we had the spring pork schnitzel which was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

Very good and competent service, impressive location, beautiful well-kept interior. The menu is clear and that's a good thing, relevant regional and modern cuisine at a very fair price. The wine list is well coordinated and the homemade lemonade was also delicious. There are people in the kitchen who definitely know their craft. All in all, the walk up to the castle is really worth it to be rewarded with culinary delights up there. The restaurant is definitely a great addition to this picturesque region. We'll be back. I had the pork schnitzel (local producer) with Burgundy sauce, wild garlic oil, purple carrot puree, carrot, fried potatoes (wild garlic risotto regular) and goat cheese. Very nice combination, what I really have to emphasize is that the breading is not a run-of-the-mill breadcrumb breading but also has a lot of crunch. Warm greetings from Hesse.

Dear Freigeist team, Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the murder dinner at Freigeist – a really entertaining experience! The Goosebumps theater group was great and ensured a successful evening. The flexibility of the restaurant is particularly positive: Even though the event was overbooked in November, we were still able to be there with a side table - that was really great! Unfortunately, this can happen. Wherever people work, mistakes happen. But it shouldn't happen too often. Unfortunately, there were some points about the meal both yesterday and in November that were not suitable for us. It would be nice if there was something for most tastes on a set menu. I like to order special creations à la carte if I like them - I still remember a black pudding starter that I had here once and it was really great! But does it have to be the case that such special dishes are served on a set menu? A small, well-intentioned tip: With the Hugo, a smaller glass would be wiser. The large glasses are beautiful, but when they are only half full it seems a bit unfortunate - a lady at the next table complained about exactly that. Similar with the Aperol: It was more of a spritzer. As far as service is concerned, there is still room for improvement. The quality varied greatly. Big praise to the gentleman in service who is always there. You are doing a great job! Unfortunately, it is impossible for you to enforce this level throughout the entire restaurant. Drinks were often forgotten or brought incorrectly. In addition, empty plates were unfortunately not cleared away until the next act of the theater, and the waitresses left full tables without taking any used dishes with them (even though the empty glasses had already been placed at the edge of the table...). Especially at a busy event like this, more attentive service would be desirable. One less table compared to the event in November is certainly a good decision, but if the knight's hall is also occupied by á la carte guests, more (qualified) staff are simply needed. I am aware that a lack of staff is an issue everywhere, and people tend to overlook the little things - but somewhere there are limits when, as a guest, you feel the need to put away the dishes yourself because the staff are acting "blindly". You can do better, and above all, that was better! Very unfortunate. The food itself couldn't convince us both yesterday and in November. I personally couldn't eat the side dish of the main course - this also seemed to be noticed at the neighboring tables. The starter and dessert, however, were good, but the soup wasn't quite to my taste personally. But that's ok with a fixed menu. At an event like this, you should opt for less special creations. Overall, we had a lovely evening with a great show and an attentive, but sometimes overwhelmed, restaurant. With a little tweaking to the service and a better menu selection, the experience could really be perfect all around. We'd love to come back, but probably only á la carte. We hope for a next time when the quality is right again. It would be a shame if we were disappointed again next time. Please continue to maintain regionality, that is an absolute unique selling point! That's great! I don't really like eating game myself, but yesterday's meat really surprised me and was delicious, and didn't have that typical "gamey" taste at all.

We were there between years, the food was delicious and unusual. The combinations are unusually elegant for my palate, but everything tasted wonderful. It is explicitly stated on the menu that all meals can be ordered smaller for children and the price is adjusted, but for our children at 2.5 and 5 years old it would not be possible in this upscale Altwr. The service was courteous and attentive, a really nice evening!

Hello, we have been to this restaurant several times, which offers first-class food at reasonable prices. The menu, which changes weekly, includes dishes that are not otherwise offered (e.g. wild boar schnitzel, venison schnitzel or burgers with goose). All dishes not only offer a highlight in terms of taste, but also visually. The service is very friendly and attentive, but without being intrusive. Our dog is also given water directly. The rooms inside are as you would expect in a castle. Very nice terrace for summer dining. Conclusion: One of the top 3 restaurants in the region that we will visit more often.

Essen mittelmäßig, Dessert zum Weihnachtsessen bestand aus einem trockenem Schockstückchen sowie Fertig-Eis. Also im Prinzip nicht viel besser als in jedem x-beliebigen Systemgastronomie-Laden. Portionen eher klein. Zwei Speiseräume, wobei eins davon aufgrund der direkten Toilettenanbindung sowie der Form (langgezogen mit der präsenten Toilettentür am Ende) ziemlich gemieft hat. Bon Appétit!

A very great restaurant! A very nice atmosphere with a very good waiter! I was very happy about the food - finally a chef who uses seasonal vegetables and uses them in such a clever way! Thank you for that!

So the food at Christmas was mediocre, but at €50 per person for three courses you would expect a little more on your plate. Had to go out to eat afterwards. The bad thing, however, was the fact that the passage room to the toilets was converted into a "dining room" and we didn't know anything about it, although we had already paid a deposit of €10 (per person). The corresponding stench filled the entire room non-stop, as well as guests from the main room sleeping non-stop to the toilets. This made Christmas dinner perfect. When we asked to refund the money we had paid, the boss didn't even bother to come out. Instead we had to decide: write off the deposit or eat nicely dressed in front of the toilet door...

We booked the New Year's Eve menu and were very satisfied. Everything was right and the food was extremely tasty, creative and varied. The service worked great and everyone was very friendly and attentive. Thank you for this lovely end to the year in Freigeist.

Were there on December 25th at lunchtime. Fast, friendly service. The menu is very tasty and the portions are more than sufficient. For me it's more about quality than about large portions. Both worked here. Please keep it up. Good year 2025 with great guests and good sales.

Unfortunately quite a disappointment. We tried the Freigeist on a recommendation because we were looking for a new regular place for Christmas. Unfortunately, almost half an hour passed between the first (of four) and the last meals being served at our table. So one after the other we were all served a lukewarm meal. This was also due to the fact that the service was completely uncoordinated and carried the food around the room several times and then did not continue serving where there was already food, but always served in a clockwise direction. The menu didn't convince us in terms of taste either. No one at the table liked the dessert. The vegetarian starter was unimaginative (basically just lamb's lettuce). My companions didn't like the meat and couldn't be defined by its form or preparation. It wasn't particularly much either. At Christmas you actually let 5 go if something doesn't fit, but we were annoyed that the 10 euros that we had to pay for the "entrance ticket" were not credited to one person despite our cancellation 5 days in advance . With a bill amounting to well over 200 euros at the table, it's just petty. We were then informed by email that the rejection had not been received. After sending the email for information, there was no reaction to the content. Too bad! But the ambience and location are great. Personally, it was too loud for me inside; if you have a slight hearing loss, a conversation becomes quite strenuous or even impossible.

Leider ein kompletter Reinfall... Wir waren oft und gerne auf der Ebernburg im Restaurant Freigeist essen. Es war immer gut, immer freundlicher Service, und wir wissen nicht, wie so sehr der Wurm drin sein konnte. Wir wollten einen tollen Anlass feiern und wurden kolossal enttäuscht. Die Getränke für 7 Personen kamen im Abstand von 10 Minuten. Da war das eine Bier schon ohne Schaum, anstoßen war dann erst möglich. Rotwein wurde gekühlt im Weinkühler serviert. Nicht verkostet. Lieblos hingestellt. Die Gläser vom Aperitiv standen auf dem Tisch, bis wir gegangen sind. Essen dauerte mega lange. Die Fischsuppe war eher ein Püree, Teller nicht vorgewärmt daher schon ziemlich abgekühlt, die Falaffel bestanden zu 80 % aus festen Karottenstreifen, Burger ohne Zwiebeln bestellt und kam trotzdem mit Zwiebeln, Fleisch der Patties war stellenweise sehr versalzen, Mitte noch halb roh, Laktoseintoleranz wurde ignoriert und trotzdem Schwand draufgekleckst, Lachs furchtbar trocken, die Servicekraft überfordert und hat null mitgedacht. Pommes wurden komplett vergessen und kamen auf Nachfrage, als die Burger schon fast verzehrt waren. Eine mega Enttäuschung.

A great experience...great cozy atmosphere...excellent food

We really like going here, great food, great service, very nice staff, super nice ambience up there on the Ebernburg with a view over Bad Münster and Rotenfels. However, I do have one small point of criticism: The ambience would be even nicer with nice lighting, the hardware store lamps on the ceiling really don't fit there😉

Block off part of the castle, whether open or closed. And most of the day this restaurant is closed. The castle administration shouldn't allow it! “Passage prohibited” is written with a large chain. A beautiful part of the castle is only available to restaurant guests as a smoking area in the cold months. Franz von Sickingen would definitely have rejected something like that.

Wir waren schon zu diversen Events im Freigeist und immer begeistert, deshalb haben wir dort im Rittersaal auch meinen runden Geburtstag gefeiert, es war wie immer alles Top und rundrum ein gelungenes Fest, meine Gäste waren sowohl vom Ambiente als auch dem Service und vor allem dem ausgezeichneten Essen begeistert

It's been a long time since the 8 of us went to the Freigeist restaurant on the Ebernburg in Bad Münster am Stein. As always, high praise can be given to the kitchen. A super delicious meal, great and friendly service staff. And the ambience invites you to linger and relax. Of course we would love to come back, thank you for everything and see you soon...

Very good service meets delicious food. During the preparation, emphasis is placed on regional products. We sat in the courtyard and had a wonderful evening with a view of the sunset over Ebernburg.

The Castle is very beautiful, it has some very picturesque viewpoints. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00, after 15 minutes we ordered food and drinks. The food arrived after an hour and 15 min. Some tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before ours. I understand that there were many people and therefore the preparation of the food may take some time. When I asked the waiter, his response was: "I have to see", 30 minutes later the food arrived. We were not told anything. The food was also very seasoned, the essence of the food was lost and it only tasted like seasoning.

Staff was very friendly, in a good mood. Our gourmet menu was very tasty and can be highly recommended. Price performance is top. Can be highly recommended.

Very good restaurant with a great ambience. The food tasted excellent. You can also enjoy a great view from the castle. The restaurant is barrier-free.

We are grateful for the welcome, the service, the accessibility and overall the good opportunity that we were able to spend a special day or evening there. The dishes are excellent and almost strictly prepared with regional and seasonal ingredients, which I find completely sensible, but cannot meet everyone's expectations.

Very tasty food, but extremely long waiting times

One of our firm annual traditions. During the bagpipe school course week, we go out to eat at Freigeist one evening. So far we have never been disappointed. A small but fine menu with excellent dishes and the service is provided by very nice staff. Surprisingly, we can't say anything about the atmosphere in the restaurant, as the weather has always been so good that we were able to sit in the castle courtyard. We can definitely recommend the free spirit. But I also have to criticize and deduct 1 star because card payment is not possible. This is no longer appropriate these days.

Visiting the restaurant was great! We got to our reserved table a few minutes later and it was already taken. Not bad at all, because we were offered a glass of secco and a table was prepared for us shortly afterwards. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. Our food was very good! 👍 So we had a very nice evening 😃
