We were guests here for the first time. The service was super nice and attentive, so we felt very comfortable right from the start. The view of the Rotenfels from the restaurant is amazing. Great atmosphere up there! As a main course we had the spring pork schnitzel which was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

Very good and competent service, impressive location, beautiful well-kept interior. The menu is clear and that's a good thing, relevant regional and modern cuisine at a very fair price. The wine list is well coordinated and the homemade lemonade was also delicious. There are people in the kitchen who definitely know their craft. All in all, the walk up to the castle is really worth it to be rewarded with culinary delights up there. The restaurant is definitely a great addition to this picturesque region. We'll be back. I had the pork schnitzel (local producer) with Burgundy sauce, wild garlic oil, purple carrot puree, carrot, fried potatoes (wild garlic risotto regular) and goat cheese. Very nice combination, what I really have to emphasize is that the breading is not a run-of-the-mill breadcrumb breading but also has a lot of crunch. Warm greetings from Hesse.

Dear Freigeist team, Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the murder dinner at Freigeist – a really entertaining experience! The Goosebumps theater group was great and ensured a successful evening. The flexibility of the restaurant is particularly positive: Even though the event was overbooked in November, we were still able to be there with a side table - that was really great! Unfortunately, this can happen. Wherever people work, mistakes happen. But it shouldn't happen too often. Unfortunately, there were some points about the meal both yesterday and in November that were not suitable for us. It would be nice if there was something for most tastes on a set menu. I like to order special creations à la carte if I like them - I still remember a black pudding starter that I had here once and it was really great! But does it have to be the case that such special dishes are served on a set menu? A small, well-intentioned tip: With the Hugo, a smaller glass would be wiser. The large glasses are beautiful, but when they are only half full it seems a bit unfortunate - a lady at the next table complained about exactly that. Similar with the Aperol: It was more of a spritzer. As far as service is concerned, there is still room for improvement. The quality varied greatly. Big praise to the gentleman in service who is always there. You are doing a great job! Unfortunately, it is impossible for you to enforce this level throughout the entire restaurant. Drinks were often forgotten or brought incorrectly. In addition, empty plates were unfortunately not cleared away until the next act of the theater, and the waitresses left full tables without taking any used dishes with them (even though the empty glasses had already been placed at the edge of the table...). Especially at a busy event like this, more attentive service would be desirable. One less table compared to the event in November is certainly a good decision, but if the knight's hall is also occupied by á la carte guests, more (qualified) staff are simply needed. I am aware that a lack of staff is an issue everywhere, and people tend to overlook the little things - but somewhere there are limits when, as a guest, you feel the need to put away the dishes yourself because the staff are acting "blindly". You can do better, and above all, that was better! Very unfortunate. The food itself couldn't convince us both yesterday and in November. I personally couldn't eat the side dish of the main course - this also seemed to be noticed at the neighboring tables. The starter and dessert, however, were good, but the soup wasn't quite to my taste personally. But that's ok with a fixed menu. At an event like this, you should opt for less special creations. Overall, we had a lovely evening with a great show and an attentive, but sometimes overwhelmed, restaurant. With a little tweaking to the service and a better menu selection, the experience could really be perfect all around. We'd love to come back, but probably only á la carte. We hope for a next time when the quality is right again. It would be a shame if we were disappointed again next time. Please continue to maintain regionality, that is an absolute unique selling point! That's great! I don't really like eating game myself, but yesterday's meat really surprised me and was delicious, and didn't have that typical "gamey" taste at all.

We were there between years, the food was delicious and unusual. The combinations are unusually elegant for my palate, but everything tasted wonderful. It is explicitly stated on the menu that all meals can be ordered smaller for children and the price is adjusted, but for our children at 2.5 and 5 years old it would not be possible in this upscale Altwr. The service was courteous and attentive, a really nice evening!

Hello, we have been to this restaurant several times, which offers first-class food at reasonable prices. The menu, which changes weekly, includes dishes that are not otherwise offered (e.g. wild boar schnitzel, venison schnitzel or burgers with goose). All dishes not only offer a highlight in terms of taste, but also visually. The service is very friendly and attentive, but without being intrusive. Our dog is also given water directly. The rooms inside are as you would expect in a castle. Very nice terrace for summer dining. Conclusion: One of the top 3 restaurants in the region that we will visit more often.

Essen mittelmäßig, Dessert zum Weihnachtsessen bestand aus einem trockenem Schockstückchen sowie Fertig-Eis. Also im Prinzip nicht viel besser als in jedem x-beliebigen Systemgastronomie-Laden. Portionen eher klein. Zwei Speiseräume, wobei eins davon aufgrund der direkten Toilettenanbindung sowie der Form (langgezogen mit der präsenten Toilettentür am Ende) ziemlich gemieft hat. Bon Appétit!

A very great restaurant! A very nice atmosphere with a very good waiter! I was very happy about the food - finally a chef who uses seasonal vegetables and uses them in such a clever way! Thank you for that!

So the food at Christmas was mediocre, but at €50 per person for three courses you would expect a little more on your plate. Had to go out to eat afterwards. The bad thing, however, was the fact that the passage room to the toilets was converted into a "dining room" and we didn't know anything about it, although we had already paid a deposit of €10 (per person). The corresponding stench filled the entire room non-stop, as well as guests from the main room sleeping non-stop to the toilets. This made Christmas dinner perfect. When we asked to refund the money we had paid, the boss didn't even bother to come out. Instead we had to decide: write off the deposit or eat nicely dressed in front of the toilet door...

We booked the New Year's Eve menu and were very satisfied. Everything was right and the food was extremely tasty, creative and varied. The service worked great and everyone was very friendly and attentive. Thank you for this lovely end to the year in Freigeist.

Were there on December 25th at lunchtime. Fast, friendly service. The menu is very tasty and the portions are more than sufficient. For me it's more about quality than about large portions. Both worked here. Please keep it up. Good year 2025 with great guests and good sales.

Unfortunately quite a disappointment. We tried the Freigeist on a recommendation because we were looking for a new regular place for Christmas. Unfortunately, almost half an hour passed between the first (of four) and the last meals being served at our table. So one after the other we were all served a lukewarm meal. This was also due to the fact that the service was completely uncoordinated and carried the food around the room several times and then did not continue serving where there was already food, but always served in a clockwise direction. The menu didn't convince us in terms of taste either. No one at the table liked the dessert. The vegetarian starter was unimaginative (basically just lamb's lettuce). My companions didn't like the meat and couldn't be defined by its form or preparation. It wasn't particularly much either. At Christmas you actually let 5 go if something doesn't fit, but we were annoyed that the 10 euros that we had to pay for the "entrance ticket" were not credited to one person despite our cancellation 5 days in advance . With a bill amounting to well over 200 euros at the table, it's just petty. We were then informed by email that the rejection had not been received. After sending the email for information, there was no reaction to the content. Too bad! But the ambience and location are great. Personally, it was too loud for me inside; if you have a slight hearing loss, a conversation becomes quite strenuous or even impossible.

Leider ein kompletter Reinfall... Wir waren oft und gerne auf der Ebernburg im Restaurant Freigeist essen. Es war immer gut, immer freundlicher Service, und wir wissen nicht, wie so sehr der Wurm drin sein konnte. Wir wollten einen tollen Anlass feiern und wurden kolossal enttäuscht. Die Getränke für 7 Personen kamen im Abstand von 10 Minuten. Da war das eine Bier schon ohne Schaum, anstoßen war dann erst möglich. Rotwein wurde gekühlt im Weinkühler serviert. Nicht verkostet. Lieblos hingestellt. Die Gläser vom Aperitiv standen auf dem Tisch, bis wir gegangen sind. Essen dauerte mega lange. Die Fischsuppe war eher ein Püree, Teller nicht vorgewärmt daher schon ziemlich abgekühlt, die Falaffel bestanden zu 80 % aus festen Karottenstreifen, Burger ohne Zwiebeln bestellt und kam trotzdem mit Zwiebeln, Fleisch der Patties war stellenweise sehr versalzen, Mitte noch halb roh, Laktoseintoleranz wurde ignoriert und trotzdem Schwand draufgekleckst, Lachs furchtbar trocken, die Servicekraft überfordert und hat null mitgedacht. Pommes wurden komplett vergessen und kamen auf Nachfrage, als die Burger schon fast verzehrt waren. Eine mega Enttäuschung.

We really like going here, great food, great service, very nice staff, super nice ambience up there on the Ebernburg with a view over Bad Münster and Rotenfels. However, I do have one small point of criticism: The ambience would be even nicer with nice lighting, the hardware store lamps on the ceiling really don't fit there😉

Block off part of the castle, whether open or closed. And most of the day this restaurant is closed. The castle administration shouldn't allow it! “Passage prohibited” is written with a large chain. A beautiful part of the castle is only available to restaurant guests as a smoking area in the cold months. Franz von Sickingen would definitely have rejected something like that.

Very good service meets delicious food. During the preparation, emphasis is placed on regional products. We sat in the courtyard and had a wonderful evening with a view of the sunset over Ebernburg.

The Castle is very beautiful, it has some very picturesque viewpoints. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00, after 15 minutes we ordered food and drinks. The food arrived after an hour and 15 min. Some tables that arrived and ordered after us got their food before ours. I understand that there were many people and therefore the preparation of the food may take some time. When I asked the waiter, his response was: "I have to see", 30 minutes later the food arrived. We were not told anything. The food was also very seasoned, the essence of the food was lost and it only tasted like seasoning.

The dishes are excellent and almost strictly prepared with regional and seasonal ingredients, which I find completely sensible, but cannot meet everyone's expectations.

Very tasty food, but extremely long waiting times

One of our firm annual traditions. During the bagpipe school course week, we go out to eat at Freigeist one evening. So far we have never been disappointed. A small but fine menu with excellent dishes and the service is provided by very nice staff. Surprisingly, we can't say anything about the atmosphere in the restaurant, as the weather has always been so good that we were able to sit in the castle courtyard. We can definitely recommend the free spirit. But I also have to criticize and deduct 1 star because card payment is not possible. This is no longer appropriate these days.

Visiting the restaurant was great! We got to our reserved table a few minutes later and it was already taken. Recommended by friends, we were not disappointed! Starters are just as delicious as the main entrance! Water was brought to the dog without being asked, service was friendly and in a good mood despite the stress! That alone is so rare that it deserves 5 stars. It was very nice that the boss personally asked the guests. Where else is that available? We'll be coming regularly from now on ;-)

I had a burger and ordered it well done! Unfortunately the meat wasn't cooked through. The end of the song was a discount of €2.00 I can't share the enthusiasm of the others!

Because of a coupon in the Schlemmerblock, we visited the restaurant for the first time. Our conclusion: poor value for money. With our schnitzels, they weren't “Wiener Schnitzels”, but the thickness of the schnitzels was on par with those of the Wiener Schnitzels. So very thin. And the fried potatoes that came with it were partly black. The restaurant has come up with a great trick to still get its money's worth with its promotional offer in the Schlemmerblock. It lists the sauce and the tablespoon of mushrooms totaling €6 as a separate item on the menu, even though these are included with a schnitzel. When billing, they only deduct the pure schnitzel at a price of €17 and you have to pay the €6 for some sauce and a tablespoon of mushrooms. In total, without the discount from the gourmet block, we would have paid around €60 including two drinks. That's too expensive for this quality. Then the restaurant should save itself the advertising in the gourmet block. You certainly won't win new customers this way. You just feel ripped off. For us it was the first and last time in this restaurant, although the view from up there is very nice.

Today we were (finally) in the free spirit again! Short and sweet, just keep it up!! Super fresh & delicious! It wasn't the last time we were there!

On Sunday, when we visited Bad Kreuznach, we visited the restaurant in the Schlemmerblock Saw it and went there quite spontaneously. Seats outside were well occupied due to the weather. Very friendly reception. We were given a place in the castle courtyard. We were very satisfied and felt well and friendly looked after. We ordered (cautious as we are) the pork schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad. Food came after a reasonable wait. It was just different than usual but very, very tasty. We can say the same about the dessert (sorbet with candied nuts), a nice big portion and also delicious. Priced high but reasonable.

We spent a lovely evening in the courtyard with very good food. Absolutely recommended, food, service and location. My wish would be a mini dessert or a praline with the espresso, as unfortunately I couldn't manage a dessert, even though the temptation was great.

We went to Freigeist for the first time today and were thrilled. The service was courteous, friendly, attentive, but by no means intrusive. Just perfect! To eat: Here we always cook with fresh ingredients, with regional dishes taking center stage. If you want to eat cheaply, this is the wrong place for you. But if you want to eat cheaply (reasonably) and value quality, this is the right place for you. The price-performance ratio is absolutely top. It doesn't get any better. The ambience is also well chosen with attention to detail. The restaurant is located on the Ebernburg, and there are plenty of parking spaces nearby. The view (just like the food) is to die for. We will be back. I arrived with a walker, which wasn't a problem for me. You have to climb 4 steps just to get to the toilet. A trip is definitely worth it. 100% recommendation

We were guests here for the first time. The service was super nice and attentive, so we felt very comfortable right from the start. The view of the Rotenfels from the restaurant is amazing - great ambience up there! We had a soup with garnish as a starter. For our taste there could have been two or three more inserts. The main courses were both super tasty. For dessert we didn't necessarily have to have the oatmeal, but otherwise the dessert was very good and nicely presented.

We were actually there yesterday by chance. We just wanted to take a quick look at the Ebernburg and then grab a bite to eat somewhere. It was so tempting to sit outside in the courtyard and see what everyone else had on their plates. It was a perfect evening: we each treated ourselves to the menu and were overwhelmed. The food was excellent, the wine was perfect and the service was so friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back!

Thank you for a great evening. Great selection of drinks and food, recommended for anyone who wants to eat outside the norm in a pleasant atmosphere. Some comments said it wasn't suitable for children, but I can't confirm that at all. You just have to ask, our daughter (5) was definitely happy. Plus the great location with a great playground right next to the castle. We will be back definitely.

There's not much left for me to do other than say that it's been a long time since I've had such an excellent meal as I did in the Freigeist restaurant on the Ebernburg. But here too, let's start from the beginning. I reserved the table for 4 people online via a simple email. Within a few hours I received feedback that the reservation was confirmed and they were looking forward to our visit. I think it's great if you can reserve online. I made a reservation for a Thursday, during the week. I think a reservation is highly recommended. Now the day had come, I of course familiarized myself with the menu in advance via the website. The website is kept simple and clear. As is the menu, which I really appreciate. No one wants to read pages of menus anymore, only to read the same tired pork loin with spaetzle and vegetables for the 100th time. Things are different in the free spirit. A clear menu that promises that fresh food is cooked here and that people think about it here. Here you are in the mood for something new, something innovative and good food. There are vegan and vegetarian dishes, you'll definitely find what you're looking for. You can drive to the castle by car, and there is a parking lot with plenty of parking spaces on the right. Then it's just a short walk until you're in front of the entrance to the restaurant. The welcome from the service staff was very friendly. We were taken straight to our table and were allowed to enjoy the view of Bad Münster in the evening. The guest room is comfortably furnished. You immediately feel comfortable. The table decoration was subtle, even if the shell with a pearl glued on wasn't quite my taste. The chic table lamp would have been completely sufficient. The cutlery and cloth napkin were ready, they were clean and nice to look at. The service employee, to whom I would like to give a very big, big and warm compliment, was very friendly, courteous, not intrusive and yet always there, attentive, simply great! This is how it should be as a service employee in a restaurant! I have worked in the catering industry for years, I know how bad it can sometimes be and how annoying the guests often are. But this service employee should be a role model for everyone! He brought us the menu and the wine list, and there was also a daily recommendation. This was vegetarian and other variations could be ordered with meat. As a vegetarian, I think it's great when you have such a great selection of dishes. I chose a still water and a Pinot Gris. The water came from the tap, which I think is really good! I share the statement on the website and the menu that it is unnecessary to buy still water in a bottle when the drinking water from the tap is great! I love this attitude and philosophy of the restaurant! Sustainability is so easy! If you just want to! For dinner I ordered the wild garlic and potato dumplings with mountain cheese, grilled carrots, mushroom sauce and chard. What can I say? It was fabulous! It was a dream! A simple dish, cooked and prepared with love and dedication. For dessert there was an ice cream sundae with three scoops of homemade ice cream and walnuts from the garden. Delicious! I still rave about the food, the ambience, the free spirit that runs through this restaurant. I really hope it stays that way. That this concept of a restaurant that has decided to be different, to be sustainable, to cook great organic food, that this concept will last a long time and successfully. I wish it so much for you, dear “Freigeist” team. I'll be back and hopefully I'll bring a lot of people with me who NEED to get to know you and your restaurant! Lage und Einrichtung sind top , der Service sehr freundlich. Das Essen hervorragend. ( Volles Haus, die 40 Minuten Warten haben sich gelohnt, Muss aber sagen/schreiben, so ein kleiner Hinweis: Wir haben Sie nicht vergessen wäre nett gewesen). Dennoch, immer wieder gern.

Wir hatten um einen Tisch mit Aussicht am Fenster gebeten und wurden ohne Info im kalten Nebenraum platziert. Das Essen war nur lauwarm und wurde falsch serviert (nicht vegan wie bestellt). Wir gaben es zurück. Auch der zweite Versuch scheiterte. Beim dritten Mal war es zwar wörmer als vorher und vegan, aber nicht heiß. Wir mussten also getrennt essen. Die Portionen waren knapp zum Sattwerden, stolze Preise. Geschmacklich war es okay. Insgesamt wurde unsere Erwartung nicht erfüllt. Zumindest wäre es fair gewesen, uns vorher zu sagen, dass im Restaurant kein Tisch mehr frei ist.

Nach einem vergeblichen Spontanversuch ohne Reservierung, da das Restaurant voll war, nun also mit Reservierung. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und zum Tisch geleitet. Dort ging es dann freundlich weiter und neben der normalen Karte wurde uns die Tagesempfehlung ansehnlich auf einer großen Schiefertafel präsentiert und vorgestellt. Die Wartezeit bis zum Essen war auf Grund des vollen Restaurants und der gelieferten Qualität völlig in Ordnung. Die Burger waren sehr schmackhaft und die dazu bestellten Pommes Frites ausgezeichnet. Auch das Schnitzel war insbesondere mit der nicht alltäglichen Panade ein Erlebnis. Die dazu gereichten Bratkartoffeln waren sehr stimmig. Mein persönliches Highlight war allerdings der Beilagensalat, dieser war einfach lecker.

We were here for the first time today, although we have often heard very good impressions before. We can only agree with that. The food was great, the wine selection is excellent and the service couldn't be better. The simple but great ambience is practically at its best. The prices also match all of this. We'd love to come back.

Main courses were very tasty. I had the winter pork schnitzel. The composition of the different type of breading of the orange sauce and the Gorgonzola Ebly risotto was great. Personally, I just didn't think the dessert was outstanding. The Kaiserschmarrn wasn't sweet and fluffy enough for me. Far too few raisins. Only the churches have ripped it off a bit. My wife had the pulled beef burger with fries. This was also very tasty.

Great food, regional and homemade, you can see and taste it! The location is also great, you have a beautiful view from the castle. Staff very attentive, friendly and enjoy their work!

We were here for the Valentine's Day menu, my partner had a 5 course menu and I had the 3 course menu. We were completely thrilled, of course it's something different and you get some variety in your restaurant life. We would love to come back and be surprised by a new menu. The homemade lemonade made from our own syrup is also particularly worth mentioning.

We went to the Freigeist restaurant for Valentine's Day. We have had good experiences in the past and we were looking forward to a lovely evening with a special menu. Unfortunately, we have to be honest and say that this 3-course meal was a joke and completely overpriced. We would have been better off cooking ourselves, at least we would have been full... On such a beautiful day you would expect nice, friendly service...This left a lot to be desired. Our waitress was grumpy, unfriendly and didn't even ask whether we liked it, let alone whether we would like to order anything else. The atmosphere on Valentine's Day could have been sweetened a little with decorations, candles or nice background music... All dishes were lukewarm or even cold (plates not preheated), starter soup oversalted with 2 small slices of bread (do you have to save on bread???), the main course (pasta with pumpkin) was a joke (a mini portion, maybe for children it was enough)...so for 44 euros per person. plus drinks...we would have imagined Valentine's Day to be completely different. Everything is overpriced and then you don't even get full and the food is cold or too salty. So we're not going here anymore...

We were there for the first time on New Year's Eve. A 5 course menu awaited us. Just reading it made you curious about what was going to be served, because I already knew that the name "Freigeist" means reinterpreting food and making simple dishes exciting. That's how it was. We received the best service and a great ambience with the best food, also newly interpreted. You went on a journey into a world of pleasure. Anyone who wants something new and exciting in the gourmet area with the best service is in good hands here. We felt very comfortable and would like to come back again :-)

Zum 1. Mal in diesem Restaurant gewesen. Wahrscheinlich weil Weihnachten, dauerte es mit reichen der Speisen und Getränke etwas länger. Essen hat sehr lecker geschmeckt, die Auswahl (Menüs) war übersichtlich und für Kinder nicht ganz geeignet. Der Ort, die Ebernburg, ist sehr gut geeignet, jedoch waren es zu viele Leute in einem Gastraum (Lautstärke).
