Haven't eaten such delicious food in a long time. Fantastic!

A very fine and tasty restaurant with a great location. While you wait for your food, you can look at the flamingos and simply enjoy the sun. Price performance is top here. I'll be happy to do it again

This is not a cheap restaurant, but the food is delicious. I especially recommend Wiener Schnitzel with kartoffelsalat, and for dessert Kaiserschmarrn with Pflaumenkompott.

Stopped by this lovely restaurant in the afternoon. It was very busy, the service was friendly and accommodating. The cake was very tasty, for the price the piece of cake was in the upper price segment. I was a little disappointed by a small dollop of cream for 1 euro, which didn't seem homemade to me but rather like it came from a store-bought dispenser.

Highly recommended! We were visiting Bochum because of the musical and our hotel recommended the Franz Ferdinand to us. We received a warm welcome and were treated kindly the entire time. Good service and customer satisfaction are the top priority at Franz Ferdinand. The menu offers numerous classics of Austrian cuisine and in the end you don't even know what you want to eat first. We were completely satisfied and very full. :-) The zoo is right next door, so there is a lot of guest traffic. It is advisable to reserve in advance.

Good food, gluten-free schnitzel is highly recommended. Unfortunately no gluten-free beer possible. Operation did not run completely smoothly. Beautifully located next to a park and zoo.

Since we often enjoy Austrian cuisine outside of Austria, we happily waited almost 2 months for a reservation on Saturday evenings. Result: The restaurant does not live up to its reputation Roasted chicken meat = breast meat prepared in the deep fryer. Warm potato salad = purchased, minimally refined potato salad. Confirmed after slight hesitation by the second employee. Conclusion: The first visit was the last... Ambience: Station hall very loud. Artificial leather ceilings… Greetings Dennis and Frank.

We've been there three times now and it was simply delicious! The food comes to the table relatively quickly and together. The food is hot and the quality is great. The highlight is the Kaiserschmarrn with vanilla sauce as dessert. Important: Tables must be reserved well in advance!

We were there several times and everything was always great. The last visit, however, was a disaster. The table reservation on the phone was very friendly. However, when we arrived there on Sunday lunchtime, the table was still occupied and we had to wait a bit. This wasn't bad yet. The waiter, however, was strange. His manner was somehow arrogant and unfriendly. I don't know if his sayings were supposed to be funny. We got coffee and cake. The finished dishes were on the table in front of us for a full 40 minutes. Our waiter apparently had a break, but none of the others made any move to clear away or even ask if we would like anything else. When latecomers arrived, they were ignored for a quarter of an hour despite being spoken to by a waiter. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed and were annoyed about this behavior all day. It's a shame but we won't be going there again in the future.

Went there for dinner for the first time today. Finding a parking space was a matter of luck. We ordered beef broth with herb thread, Wienerschnitzel and onion roast beef. The beef broth had a very strong taste but unfortunately only 2 to 3 herbs Faedle. (A little Maggi-heavy.) Schnitzel was really very tasty and onion roast as well. Unfortunately the roast had little taste, only lukewarm and a bit mushy. The sauce from the onion roast was more suitable for a sauerbraten. Salad was very tasty. The ambience had nothing to do with Austrian flair, more like a coffee, but still quite nice. If you want to eat delicious Viennese schnitzel, we definitely recommend it.

Overhyped by a lot. Mostly, there are no decent restaurants in Bochum, so this is a hip place. In any larger city, they would die. Poor service, arrogant, really think they are something when they are mostly an average restaurant. The food is decent but not more. Attitude is mostly the problem. If you go to actual top places you will be disappointed. If you are a country pumpkin or dont usually dine in top-notch places, you will love it.

Bad day? The sound makes the music, a spontaneous attempt to visit the restaurant with 4 adults and two children. “The terrace is and will remain closed” does not necessarily invite you to linger. The snippy waitress also didn't think of offering an alternative table, even if you had to wait. So I went to a coffee shop in the area where I gave it a full 5 points

We were greeted by a lady who couldn't take her eyes off her computer to greet us, which is not Austrian at all. The Wiener Schnitzel tasted very weak, but the lamb's lettuce tasted good. I no longer have to endure the "hello" from the waitress.

Beautiful location right next to the zoo. We sat outside on the terrace with friends for afternoon coffee in the perfect weather. Unfortunately, the cake selection was limited at that time; the cream cheese wasn't that impressive; I would have preferred more Viennese coffeehouse cakes.

It was a bit loud and hectic. We sat at the entrance to the kitchen. The sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage was delicious.

What a great restaurant! We were there for our wedding anniversary and were thrilled. First of all: you should reserve early because the restaurant is fully booked! Starters: Wild herb salad with fried chicken - incredibly tasty Potato soup - tasted even better For the main course we had the Wiener Schnitzel and what can I say: I have never eaten better! Very tasty, well seasoned and the side dishes are also great! We'll definitely be back - if only because we want to try the Kaiserschmarrn! Thank you for the lovely evening

Very tasty food and excellent service

Delicious and authentic Austrian cuisine with an excellent original Wiener Schnitzel. We enjoyed the evening among men in a very pleasant atmosphere and were pampered by the staff with recommendations of the snack board and cheese plate! Thank you very much, gladly again.

Due to the double occupancy we didn't get any dessert because it was time. We would have had to order this with the main course. Only nobody told us this, only when we complain. That put quite a damper on this lovely evening.

Absolutely recommended: The Franz Ferdinand in Bochum! We were thrilled by the authentic Austrian cuisine and felt completely at home. The food was deliciously prepared and exceeded our expectations. Particularly noteworthy are the numerous gluten-free options, which are a welcome change. Even though Franz Ferdinand is not one of the cheapest restaurants, it is worth every cent. The quality of the food and the service are first class. We strongly recommend reserving a table in advance as the restaurant is very popular. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Franz Ferdinand the next time we are in Bochum! A visit to the zoo in advance is a good idea!

Austria begins behind the front door. I love it! The Tafelspitz alone is worth the visit. And then afterwards a (shared) Kaiserschmarrn and life is good! THANK YOU and always happy!

Basically good, but what else can I describe in detail here!? I have described my personal impressions by December 2024. But Google's algorithm doesn't like that anymore. Even with positive reviews of 4 and 5 stars, it accuses me of saying that my perceptions violate the guidelines and are viewed and prosecuted as slander. For example, the description of a supermarket already comes up: "A wide range of products is offered, the parking lot is quite cramped, the shelves are tightly packed, and at peak times the queues at the checkouts get very long." according to the algorithm into the “defamation” category. And then Google doesn't explain to me exactly what my violations are, especially since such personal assessments haven't been a problem for years. So what else can I write here if Google keeps turning off reviews so vaguely and not answering questions?! How can I do justice to the location, the service provider, the offer or the product. Dear users and dear operators, with the valid Google algorithm I cannot help you with a qualified rating. :-( 😞 February 2025

We had reserved a table and, according to the confirmation via SMS, we were allowed to stay there for a maximum of two hours. The first round of drinks came quite quickly and the drinks were also very tasty. Our second round of drinks was ordered before the main course, unfortunately it just didn't come. In the meantime the food arrived and our group sat on dry land throughout the entire main course. When we asked our waitress, we were put off with the words “the drinks are now being prepared”. The food was overall quite good. When we had all eaten, soft drinks came first and then beer a little later. There wasn't even a third round of drinks - a shame! We also only got dessert because we ordered desserts on our own initiative when the main course was being cleared away. Otherwise there wouldn't have been enough time for the Kaiserschmarrn (preparation according to the note on the menu: 20 minutes). Last but not least, while part of our group was already on the way out and the other part was about to leave with their jackets on, we were told in decisive words that our time was probably already up and we had to leave immediately. Unfortunately not a nice ending!

A table for 4. The table was too small for 4 people and the seats by the window were uncomfortably cool. The service at the beginning was super nice and competent. Later it became crowded and loud and we couldn't manage to order desserts. At some point we managed, but they stopped taking orders. The next guests were in the room?!? Ok, the concept was explained to us when we made the reservation, but it also has to work with the service. The food was ok - but nothing more. Somehow not a nice evening!

Franz Ferdinand Kaiserschnitzel was delicious, pilsner was tasty, service was pleasantly gallant. Recommended!

Was at Franz Ferdinand on February 7th, 2024 - we waited 10 minutes after being seated until we received the menu, the table next to us came before us and waited even longer than we did. A lady came out of the restaurant and complained loudly that she had already been served part of the main course but still had no drinks on the table! The cuisine is good, but has little to do with Austrian cuisine. The service is mediocre, it is not seen that guests are sitting with empty glasses. Gravy with cordon bleu in Austria is an absolute no-go. My boiled beef was okay, except that the “roasted potatoes” were simple fried potatoes, the horseradish was from a can and the bread was served with it. But the crowning glory was the “Kaiserschmarrn”, this dish had nothing in common with Kaiserschmarrn! In the future we'd better stay away from it!

To the 4x menu carousel and always recommended ♥️ always come here after visiting the zoo. Great food, great ambience and very friendly staff 🫶

On weekends you are checked in and "thrown out" at 7:45 p.m. because the next guests never want your table. Deep fryer and potato salad from the bucket

After 2 hours you were thrown out with a group. It was said that it would be noted on the website. The potatoes and meat in the dish could be counted. There was also a small twig on the dish. It was very loud and you couldn't have a conversation. It is not recommended.

Just great. The greeting alone makes you want to have a nice evening. The working atmosphere here still seems to be right. And the food, I had Cordon Bleu, was excellent. The puree went very well with it.

We tried booking online but did not find any tables available for the same, went and asked in person and they managed to reserve a table for us. The service is great. Both waiters that spoke to us were extremely friendly and very professional. The food was extremely good. Some options were available in a gluten free version, which turned out to be the best gluten free Schnitzel i have ever had. The food was authentic and the portions were almost too big ( not for my partner though, he ate all the leftovers and loved every single dish).

Nice, clean restaurant with friendly, young staff. Diverse cake counter WITHOUT price information. We ordered apple and plum cake. “Manageable” pieces that were still ice cold in the middle. The price is €4.70 each!!! is in no way justified! The portion of spray cream cost €1 extra each! You don't have to have it a second time!

We went to Franz Ferdinand for the first time with the family on the occasion of a birthday. Nice restaurant, parking spaces available in the parking garage opposite. Great selection (had different main courses from goose, to Wiener Schnitzel and Kaspressknödel) of Austrian dishes. The obligatory Kaiserschmarrn was then shared. Good service, asking earlier whether everything was ok would have helped with a complaint. We'd love to come back.

Nice location, with friendly staff. The served sauerbraten and the pork schnitzel were tasty and of good quality. The price for it was reasonable. The range of cakes and tarts also left a very good impression. All in all, a restaurant that we would like to visit again.

We had dinner there with several people. Unfortunately the price/performance ratio is not right here. Cordon bleu was sinewy, side dish cold, (was swapped upon request) spaetzle hard... The service was friendly, but overall very slow. When you sit by the window you feel a pull on your back as they are not the best windows. We got the overall package much better elsewhere. For this reason no recommendation and no second visit.

Atmosphere very stiff and impersonal. But this is a subjective feeling. Food wasn't convincing. Bought potato salad. Dry veal schnitzel. Price performance just doesn't fit at all. No risk of repetition!

Very tasty, great mussel variants, very good cake, great selection

We were at Franz Ferdinand years ago and I didn't really remember the restaurant. It wasn't bad at the time, but it didn't stand out either. Back then I would have given it a 3 out of 5 stars, among other things because the poor acoustics and the relatively small portion were negatively remembered. After visiting the restaurant again, the score has now increased to 4. They got the problem with the acoustics in the large extension under control through partitions - not necessarily beautiful but functional. This time it was possible to have a conversation, despite the full restaurant. I found the shift system negative. We had the slot from 8 p.m. and the guests before that were politely kicked out... that's not my thing, but oh well. To eat: the baked dumplings we ordered were delicious. These were truffled, which at times came through subtly and just right, at other times it was too present and overpowered the flavor of the other ingredients. All in all, good and filling too. The price for the evening with a large drink (spritzer) and tip was €30.

Wild herb salad as a starter. Fried chicken with the great potato and cucumber salad as the main course. Coffee affogato for dessert. Very tasty 😋. The staff was again very nice.

It was my first time there because we were celebrating a friend's birthday in a larger group. The Ambience is really very nice. The toilets are okay, but could be a little better maintained. The various cakes and coffee were delicious. It is strange that no milk alternatives are offered. I find no lactose-free or oat milk really unusual and out of date these days. Unfortunately, the service wasn't particularly accommodating. The order for drinks was only taken at the beginning, but unfortunately as the afternoon progressed we didn't ask if we could have anything else; we had to ask for it ourselves. The staff seemed stressed, some of them inexperienced. In the end, a service person (brunette, long hair) unfortunately became really unfriendly and rude. The big hit was that 30 minutes before our reservation was due to expire, she asked us in a very cheeky tone to pay our bill and clear the tables; they now had to make room for other guests. The reservation was confirmed by email by 5:30 p.m. Unfortunately, we weren't offered an alternative place (it wasn't full inside) because some of us would have wanted to eat something there. The service employee began to say in an unfriendly tone: "We don't make reservations that long on the weekend" and when they pointed out the reservation email all she said was: "I don't know anything about it, I didn't write the email." We didn't say anything and didn't pay because we no longer felt welcome and found it quite rude. No apology or understanding. We really didn't expect something like that, given Ferdinand's good reputation. Since some of us were there for the first time, this first visit put a real damper on us and so there is little positive to report. If service staff treat guests so unfriendly and carelessly, there is really little interest in coming back. I find it bitter that the good reputation of the kitchen and the beautiful ambience can be so overshadowed by unfriendly, sometimes very clumsy service staff - a shame!

Well the food isn't bad, but it's not so good that you have to spend over €33 for a Cordon Bleu, and you have to here. The service is nice and courteous. The ambience is averagely old-fashioned.

We were there on Saturday evening and ate Wiener Schnitzel, Sauerbraten, venison goulash and Kaiserschmarrn. We were completely satisfied with the food and the service was also very friendly and accommodating. The point deduction is for the plastic tablecloths. We don't think that's appropriate for a restaurant of this class.

Franz Ferdinand is one of our favorite restaurants and we are happy to make the one-hour journey. The cuisine is excellent and the cakes are also a dream. To date, the service has always been outstanding. However, for some time now, this has left a lot to be desired. We were again very disappointed on All Saints Day. The female waitresses were friendly and quick as usual. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff didn't at all. Just not being greeted when the cards are handed to you is unpleasant. It's hard to understand why you have to wait forever for your drinks to arrive even though the waiters walk past the tables several times with empty hands. Our neighboring table also complained about the poor service. Although the restaurant wasn't very full at the beginning, we waited a long time for the drinks. I also don't know that as a guest you have to pour your own drinks. This is part of good manners and has always been standard at Franz Ferdinand. It also took a very long time for the bread to arrive. We assumed that this had been completely forgotten and that our main course was waiting for us at any moment. The dishes were tasty, although the side salad this time was more than half smaller than usual. We found that annoying. If you run out of salad, please just let us know. What happened for the first time this time was that one of the two Kaiser schnitzels tasted very strange. A bit musty. Was it the oil or the meat itself - I don't know... Shortly before the food came, I and about 10 minutes later my husband ordered something to drink again. My husband's drink came shortly after dinner. My drink didn't come. I asked about it and they disappeared to look. But minutes later nothing. So no drink with food. When I had the last bite in my mouth, I stopped the waiter and asked where the drink was. Instead of apologizing properly, my drink finally arrived sometime after the meal. No, this has nothing to do with service. Mistakes happen, but I expect that if the drink wasn't delivered the first time for whatever reason, that you take care of it immediately and without further questions and perhaps even offer a quick apology. Otherwise, it would also be nice if you were asked for another drink every now and then and you as a guest didn't have to stop the waiter in your tracks. It would also be nice if the waiters spoke loudly and clearly to you and didn't whisper so quietly. that you always have to ask what was said. The lady who then collected the money from us did an excellent job of showing how service works. Likewise the ladies who coordinate the tables. Friendly, service-oriented and professional! Please train the staff better so that the service matches the prices and the standards of the food. Incidentally, this experience with the lack of service has occurred frequently in recent visits and was not an isolated case today.

The acoustics in the restaurant are very loud. The food tastes great and the serving staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. An absolute recommendation!

Food is pretty average. The schnitzel didn't smell great, I don't know how old the fat was. A nice atmosphere right next to the Fossil Zoo. Staff okay, but personally didn't meet my expectations, as I have particularly high expectations of Austrian cuisine.

We had a very nice evening with delicious food and great service. Then the waiter came to pay the card and the “gastronomy tipping trick” appeared. 5%, 10% or no tip. Rounding up to an amount is hidden somewhere and is only available upon request. What the hell is that supposed to mean? That ruined my lovely evening. Therefore two stars deducted!

Hier wird gute Hausmannskost geboten, nicht weniger aber auch nicht mehr. Was auffällt ist das überhöhte Preisniveau. Dies trübt dann doch den Gesamteindruck. Freundlicher Service, leckere deftige österreichisch angehauchte Küche. Dies zu moderateren Preisen wäre wünschenswert. Es fehlt tatsächlich die süße kleine Beigabe zum Kaffee nach dem Essen. Es wird vermutlich darauf spekuliert, dass man ein Tortenstück aus der Auslage dazu bestellen soll. Also insgesamt ein gemischter Eindruck
