We had the surprise menu and were delighted by the loving preparation, the great taste and the Elbe atmosphere 😍

Incredibly delicious food... we had the surprise menu... one vegetarian and one with fish... You get the feeling that the kitchen is cooking especially for you. Creative, personalized... as if a friend had cooked just for us. A truly special experience! Everything was perfect, from the reservation to the service to the experience in the restaurant itself... and Tarik Rose, who came out of the kitchen later, is simply a warm and welcoming person! We'd love to come back again and again!!

We went there because of the owner's Instagram activity and were not disappointed: The surprise menu was delicious, the atmosphere was great, relaxed, and friendly, and the setting on the water was exceptional. We'd love to come back!

I ate there for a company event, and we enjoyed a four-course meal. I'm almost certain it was the most delicious meal I've ever eaten! Plus, it's a really cozy restaurant with a very personable chef!

The three of us were there for dinner today, and everything, absolutely everything, was to our complete satisfaction! Service, atmosphere, and taste! We arrived from Munich today and spent our first evening at the "Engel"! Simply wonderful! We'll be back very soon!

Restaurant Engel is generally a place with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service is so poor and unprofessional that I can't recommend it. Even on the phone, when I asked about my seating, I was yelled at and told that I should be lucky they had even accepted a reservation the day before. When my 95-year-old mother suffered a medical emergency during the meal, things got ridiculous. Apart from one waitress who brought us a pillow and blankets, we were ignored by the other staff. We practically had to stand in the way of the only man, the waiter, so he could help us (three very petite women) lay my mother on the floor. Two other waitresses repeatedly approached us with questions about dessert while my mother was being cared for by the emergency doctor and the fire department. Question 1: Should we put dessert on the table now? No, thank you. A short time later, Question 2: Perhaps you'd like a snack in between? No, thank you! Information 3: You still have to pay for dessert even if you don't eat it. I immediately paid everything to avoid further harassment and to be able to take care of my mother undisturbed. We complained to the restaurant about the incident in writing. Other than the message that our email ended up in spam, we haven't heard anything since. For those who are interested: My mother is in the hospital, but stable.

I'm writing this review after contacting the restaurant directly a week ago and describing the situation in detail – unfortunately, without receiving a response. During our visit on September 6th to celebrate her birthday, my grandmother suffered an acute health emergency, lost consciousness, and had to be treated by paramedics and transported to the hospital. Several employees showed no empathy or willingness to help in this emergency situation. A male server served in our area but only came to our aid when we approached him directly and asked for assistance. Two female waitresses came to our table several times to bring dessert, even though my grandmother was already unconscious at that point and subsequently lying on the floor in the recovery position – with us and the emergency personnel surrounding her. While we were still trying to get help and were naturally very worried and anxious, one of the waitresses asked if we wanted to "snack" on the dessert we had ordered earlier. Furthermore, the staff repeatedly informed us that the €26 cost for the two desserts had to be paid, even if we didn't consume them. This happened while my grandmother was on the ground being examined by the emergency services. The repeated insistence on the dessert and the apparent lack of understanding of the situation were completely strange to us. Of course, we would have paid the bill in full without being asked, and we did so before accompanying my grandmother and the emergency services to the hospital. For an establishment like the Engel Restaurant, such callous and business-oriented behavior in a medical emergency is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable and shocking. It is unbelievable that the staff at a well-known, popular, and quite expensive restaurant are completely untrained in emergencies, especially when they lack the personal qualifications to do so. So far, no one from the restaurant has inquired about my grandmother's condition.

Such a lovely evening for us and our friends. Everything was just perfect. Thank you for that. We'll definitely be back.

I think it's fantastic. I've been drinking beer at the snack bar downstairs for years and finally made it upstairs. The food was truly excellent, the portions were generous, and the service was very good—not pushy but attentive. Sure, it's a bit on the expensive side, but it really reflects the quality and value. Very friendly!

Great cuisine, service and everything else

From "hello" to "goodbye," an outstanding culinary experience. Located directly on the Elbe River, the Engel was our choice for a good lunch. And that's exactly what we got. The service was refreshingly friendly, courteous, and on point. The food, starting with an incredibly delicious sourdough bread, was perfect. Fresh, high-quality, and appealing to all the senses, the starters and main courses were simply perfect. We had a great time and will definitely be back. Many thanks to the entire team.

A fantastic place. The food was delicious, and you have exclusive front-row seating on the Elbe River, allowing you to watch the large and small ships passing by. The service was also very good. What I particularly liked was that even "ordinary" guests are welcome there, despite the fine dining. We chose the surprise menu and were very satisfied.

It's not just the lentils with shrimp...but especially the friendly, diligent, and humorous staff that impresses. Tarek and the maritime rocking make the whole experience a "second to none," literally whenever we visit. Table-wobbly victims among the reviewers are the elusive exception to this rule.

Simply fantastic! The service team is very friendly, yet discreet and attentive. The ambiance is magnificent: pilot boats and Hadag ferries are constantly docking and departing, and the water sways a bit. It couldn't be more maritime. And then there's the fantastic food at reasonable prices...!

The team around Tarek Rose has the place perfectly under control; the dishes are creative, of the highest quality, and delicious without being overly pretentious. Man glaubt es nicht, gibt es berechtigte Kritik wird der Gast beschimpft! Esssen mickrich, Preis/Leistungsverhältnis mangelhaft bzw. ungenügend 6-setzen! Tische und Stühle wie auf dem Campingplatz Man traut sich nicht richtig zu essen, da der Tisch wackelt und baufällig erscheint. Jedesmal wenn ein neuer Gast das Lokal betritt, weht es beinahe alles vom Tisch. Brot Hinweis der netten Bedienung: unser Brot wurde bei 360 oder 380 Grad gebacken! was interessiert das den Gast wenn es nicht schmeckt! Lauchbutter mangelhaft im Geschmack und Konsistenz. Kalb paniert dauert, das wurde bemängelt. Der "TV Star" kam aus der Küche geschossen mit einem nicht mehr lesbaren Zettel und meinte der schuldige Gast hat nicht lange gewartet, dies in Verbindung mit wüsten Beschimpfungen! Insgesamt stimmt bei einer Rechnung von 148 € nichts an der gelieferten Leistung, nie wieder, schade um die Zeit. Wir haben mit 2 Personen gegessen, aber haben es bereut, in jeder Hinsicht. Uns nist nicht bekannt durch welche schlechte Schule dieser TV Starkoch gegangen ist. Anstand hat er dort nicht gelernt!

Die Lokäischn, wie man in neudeutsch sagt, von Tarik Rose und seinem Team, liegt direkt am Fähranleger in Teufelsbrück, die dicken Pötte pflügen direkt an unserem Fenster vorbei. Hell und freundlich eingerichtet, nicht pompös, eher gemütlich. Der Service ist aufmerksam und flott, die Speisekarte kommt schnell und wir habe Zeit in Ruhe auszuwählen, aus kleine Karte mit teils interessanten Gerichten. Die beiden (männlichen) Kellner sind freundlich und kompetent. Eine Frau, die offenbar Gäste außerhalb bedient, schleicht ab und zu mit einem griesgrämigen Gesichtsausdruck vorbei. Wer keine Lust auf den Job hat, sollte nicht in der Gastro arbeiten sondern irgendwo im Hinterzimmer. Auf den Tisch kam „Fisch, Safran & Gewürze“, eine wunderbare Fischsuppe, sehr intensives Krustentier Aroma , herausragender Geschmack und feine, feste Fischstücke, köstlich. Die kann mit der Hummersuppe im Louis C. Jacob, am Abend vorher, auf jeden Fall mithalten. Großes Kompliment an die Küche für dieses fantastische Geschmacks Erlebnis. Weiter ging es mit „Suppentraum“, variierend nach Tarik Rose, eine Spargelsuppe, schön aufgeschäumt, mit karamellisierten Croutons. Im Anschluss kam „BEEF & PFIFFERLING“, Tatar vom Rind, Pfifferlings Salat und ein hervorragendes, knuspriges Sauerteigbrot. Das Tatar leider hart an der Salzgrenze Als nächstes folgte „Fjordforelle, Bete und Zitrone“, Scheiben von der gebeizten Forelle, auf einem Rote Bete Couscous mit Zitronen Mayo. Auch hier vielleicht etwas zu viel Salz in der Beize, aber gerade noch ok. Danach „Kalb, Kartoffel & Zitrone“, paniertes Kalbskotelette, Kartoffelpüree mit brauner Butter & Romanasalat mit frittierten Kapern. Nichts Besonderes, die Präsentation auf dem Teller lieblos, das Püree war keines, sondern ein Stampf, trotzdem passabel. Zum Abschluss dann „Crème Brûlée, Sorbet & Mandelkrokant“, in einer flachen Schale eine dünne Schicht Crème Brûlée, etwas zu dünn, knapp 1cm, und ein feines Sorbet. Dazu hatten einen wunderbaren Weißwein, der zu den Gerichten gut gepasst hat. Vorweg wurde ein herrliches Sauerteigbot mit aufgeschlagener Lauchbutter serviert. Unbestreitbar die Qualität der Produkte und die bodenständige Interpretation der Gerichte. Im Laufe unseres Restaurant Besuchs schlich Tarik Rose einmal grußlos an unserem Tisch vorbei. Ungewöhnlich, da wir ihn als immer gutgelaunten und fröhlichen Juror aus der Küchenschlacht kennen. Wie wir später von einem seiner Mitarbeiter erfahren haben, war der Souschef erkrankt und er war von frühmorgens auf den Beinen und allein in der Küche. Das hat unseren größten Respekt und wir hoffen, dass sich die Situation entspannt hat und es ihm inzwischen wieder besser geht. 1 Stern Abzug wegen der leicht stärker gesalzenen Gerichte, deshalb beim Essen 4 Sterne

Wir waren diesmal enttäuscht von der Atmosphäre. Es herrschte eine gedrückte Stimmung. Keine freundliche Begrüßung. Eine ungepflegte Bedienung mit Tattoos und aufgespritzten Lippen. Die Speisen gingen gerade so. Wir haben dort aber schon besser gegessen mit einer schöneren Atmosphäre und besseren Bedienung. Eine Gruppe mit 8 Personen ließ man lange Warten bis sich jemand gekümmert hat. Zur Zeit nicht empfehlenswert.

I have celiac disease and ate at Engel with my family. The chef took a lot of time to explain to me how things were prepared and what I could eat. He really knew the ingredients. The waitress only suggested gluten-free dishes that I could eat. It was incredibly delicious, the service was great, and it was a fantastic experience!

It took a very long time to order a coffee, and there were at least three waiters running around, absolutely incomprehensible!

Hello. Every, absolutely every expectation was fully met.

A very nice café on the Teufelsbrück pier. Delicious cakes (two varieties), lovely hot coffee, and a fantastic view over the Elbe. It rocks slightly when the ferries dock, so it's not suitable for those prone to seasickness.

The perfect place to watch ships and enjoy a relaxing cake. In between, we saw belugas from the Airbus factory. Wonderful house.

You can also just eat a currywurst here (there's a snack bar down by the jetty); it's also nice; just enjoy the view of the Elbe.

Hey, what's wrong with the toilet on the pontoon? The dirty water is several centimeters deep on the floor, and everything is incredibly dirty. Unfortunately, I've experienced this several times. No cleaning staff?

An evening at the Engel – once again, but unfortunately far too rarely, because Tanja and I live in Hanover. As the saying goes, you come as a guest and leave as a friend. Not to exaggerate, but you go home a very, very happy person. After… being welcomed as if you came every week, being served attentively by the staff with a heart for the meal, being given recommendations as if they came from a best friend you've known your whole life, and then finding dishes on your plates, prepared and presented like treasures recovered from the depths of the Elbe. Honestly, it couldn't be better. Congratulations, dear Mr. Rose, for the team you've found… such kind, open-minded, and authentic people… wonderful. Thank you for your time and your interest in sitting down with us for a few minutes to exchange ideas with us guests on an equal footing. We flew from Bolzano to Hamburg and took the ferry to the Engel restaurant...to Tarek Rose on the first evening! This was a long-awaited wish of ours!!!! It was a fantastic evening! Ambiance we love! Pampered by the service lady! Tarek created a surprise menu for us::: wonderful...and::: he found time for personal conversations!!! THANKS!!!!!

Seit gefühlten Ewigkeiten vorgenommen. Heut hat’s endlich mal gepasst. Mir gefällt die einfache hanseatisch reduzierte Atmosphäre. Super leckere und gewürz- wie geschmacksgewaltige Fischsuppe mit Rouille (eigentlich eine klassische Bouillaise wenn noch Krustentiere dabei gewesen wären) im Hauptgang hab ich mich für dass Lamm (wegen Ostern) entschieden. Top Fleischqualität. Intensive reduzierte Soße. Sehr gute gegarter Spargel und leckere Mousseline dazu. Einziges Manko. Ich hatte das Fleisch Medium Rare bestellt. War eher Medium. Aber meckern auf hohen Niveau. Der von mir ausgesuchte Chardonnay (ohne Holz) hat gut dazu gepasst. Wer hier noch nicht war sollte es bei einem HH Besuch unbedingt einplanen. Ich werde bestimmt wieder kommen!

Before my last family visit to Hamburg, my daughter had made a reservation at the restaurant of my choice (this should be done early, it is difficult in a timely manner). We weren't disappointed, the ambience, the atmosphere and especially the food were great. Not some crazy fancy stuff, but food that is simply delicious. PS: The prices were as expected and in my opinion completely justified. Thank you Tarik Rose & the whole team

An interesting place, there is a lot to see and even more to taste. I had the 3 course surprise menu and it increased from course to course. The service was attentive and calm.

We had dinner at Tarik Rose's today and had the water menu. It was excellent. The chicken liver pâté was superb. This was followed by a cream of wild mushroom soup. The main course was winter cod fried on the skin. The crustacean foam was excellent. The Engel restaurant is easily accessible by public transport. If you want something special, you can also take the harbor ferry. The service was very good. The wine pairing was excellent. It was a very successful evening. Thank you🙏🦔

Yes, of course you have to recommend the Restaurant Engel. But the account or wallet should be well filled. To enjoy the enjoyment that Tarik Rose and his team serve here, you have to be prepared to dig a little deeper into your pockets. Top-quality food + a relaxed, informal atmosphere + the best location you can imagine on the Elbe make the difference to other top restaurants in Hamburg. We will definitely come back to Tarik and his team.

A really special place. You don't know which is better! The food, the service or the unique place. But it's probably all together, because the food is - mind blowing - ..overwhelming. Every dish has a special touch, that certain something that makes it special. A spice or a surprising combination of individual dishes. It's just great. But the team is in no way inferior to the food. A service of a kind that is all too often sought today and only rarely found. We had the 4-course surprise menu, which is never specified on the menu. A surprise, but you can say beforehand whether you prefer vegetarian. You are surprised anew with every course and what can I say, it was "great cinema", as my son would say. We have found our favorite restaurant on the Elbe.

I had a meal here on a Saturday night. Everything was wonderful, very romantic, and the food had both Asian and European influences. Definitely worth the experience!

Very nice, small restaurant by Tarik Rose, with a panoramic view of the Elbe, on the “Teufelsbrück” ferry pier. The food was very tasty, the location was great and the service was friendly and competent. We had made a reservation for Saturday lunchtime because we had an event in the evening. We had a beautifully set table by the window with a view of the Elbe. We chose the surprise menu with three courses and were thrilled by the special and delicious cuisine. The food was beautifully prepared and was incredibly tasty. We also saw Tarik Rose briefly as he walked through the restaurant to the kitchen. We will definitely come back on our next stay in Hamburg.

We came here spontaneously today because we actually wanted to explore the area in Teufelsbrück a little, but were then prevented from doing so by the somewhat annoying sleet. It was quite full in the restaurant, but luckily a small table for two was still free. We were able to warm up with tea and cocoa and spend a pleasant afternoon, then ate some of the INCREDIBLY delicious cake (and drank more tea and cocoa) and overall had a really pleasant afternoon here. Super friendly team, pleasant service, always a friendly smile, so in my opinion it is fully recommended to stop by here. 5 stars from the bottom of my heart.

Irritiert waren wir zunächst, dass man für etwas Brot (normales Baguette), Pfeffer, Salz und etwas Olivenöl extra bezahlen muss (3 Euro P.P. heißt es auf der Karte). Kleine Teller mit jeweils einem Brotmesser waren für jede Person bereits gedeckt. Wir bestellten 3 Portionen, da uns Brot pp. Für 7 Personen zuviel war. Das ginge nicht, meinte die Servicekraft. Wir fragten, warum denn nicht, erhielten aber keine Antwort. Wir bestanden auf unserer Bestellung, woraufhin die genervte Kellnerin gereizt reagierte mit den Worten, „ dann nehme ich ihnen aber auch die anderen Teller weg“! Und das tat sie dann auch! Wir finden das kleinlich und eigentlich für ein hochpreisiges Restaurant ein „no go“! Ansonsten: das Essen eher mittelmäßig. Das Pastagericht mit Kürbis nichts Besonderes und zu teuer. Die Soße beim Rindfleisch hatte Sodbrennen zur Folge. Der Kirschkuchen war trocken, wir hatten ein Randstück mit verbranntem schwarzen Rand. Die Akustik ist verheerend, die Enge besorgniserregend. Man versteht sein eigenes Wort nicht. Fazit: für das nächste Geburtstagsessen suchen wir uns ein anderes Lokal! Schade! Aber die schöne Lage ist eben nicht alles!

Very nice location on a pier on the Elbe, with the best view of the ships passing immediately; even just a drink on the jetty when the weather is nice.

We were in the bistro. The food and service is of course no comparison with the restaurant, but the place right on the water is just perfect!

Food and ambience great, as always. Unfortunately the service has decreased, jovial seems to be the motto at the moment and not much effort, it's a shame, I know it differently there.
