Restaurant Athene in München

I had the worst possible experience with this restaurant. I had reserved a table for 17 people and when I got there the waiter said they don't have any reservations. I showed the call history and repeatedly mentioned the time I made the reservation. They left us standing outside for a long time in the hope that maybe they could free up a spot, but they didn't. This is the worst service we have ever experienced from this inconsiderate service. You must imagine how embarrassing it was when I reserved the place for such a large group and they agreed but didn't provide tables. My god, the service providers there are completely shameless and don't know how to treat a customer. I hope these ignorant restaurant realize what they have done. This part is in response to your pathetic response of not even admitting your mistakes. I showed your rude waiter the call log. FYI: I called exactly on November 4th at 2:10 p.m. Their server even admitted that they were confused because there was a similar type of reservation. So instead of being such a liar, maybe you should try focusing on your mistake.

We celebrated our son's birthday in the Athene restaurant and were completely thrilled. The restaurant is very family friendly and the team and all the staff were incredibly warm and attentive. The food was not only extremely tasty, but was also served quickly and the price-performance ratio was absolutely great. We are very happy to have discovered this restaurant and will definitely come back! Thank you also for giving us the tables on the left - everyone was more than satisfied and extremely happy. 5 stars more than deserved. Absolute recommendation Jug family

Good drink, light and relaxed atmosphere, especially the staff... this is the place!! We loved the experience and will definitely be back! PS: We decided to visit this place because of its proximity to our hotel and the reviews. I can say that it's worth crossing the city to have dinner and have a good time here. Take a risk!!!!!

Right next to our Avis car rental place, great restaurant and great service. English menus and our waiter was very nice and helpful. The food was plentiful and amazing. I tried the Athene Sampler platter with gyro meat, rack of lamb, chicken skewer and a meatball with rice…very good! Free shot of Ozu after supper.

The food was great, the staff were more than nice and accommodating, everything went great, I can only recommend it.

Tolles Essen, super Service. Alle Gerichte waren frisch zubereitet, geschmacklich top. Zaziki und Fischgerichte sind besonders zu empfehlen! Sehr lecker Pita!

This place in Munich let you move to Greece for a moment. Food has seafood selection and was very tasty.

We accidentally found this restaurant while passing it on the hop on hop off bus. We decided to try it after a break from Bavarian food. It was amazing and the staff, food and service are exceptional. If you are in Munich and you would like some delicious Greek food and feel like you have been transported back to Greece give this restaurant Athene a try.

We went to this restaurant on a Friday and despite having a reservation we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks and 50 minutes for our order to be taken. My companion gave several hand signals, but they were simply ignored. Obviously completely overwhelmed at the weekend When we got our order, the food was really good, but maybe it was because we waited an hour for it 🤷

Wir wollten je eine große Weinschorle, einmal weiß, einmal rose. Ohne etwas zu erwähnen, brachte man uns zwei kleine Gläser (0,2 l). Auf unseren erneuten Hinweis, dass wir zwei große Weinschorle haben wollten, sagte man lapidar: haben wir nicht ??? Abgesehen davon waren beide Weinschorle total sauer und nicht mit einem spritzigen Wasser gemacht - schmeckte einfach scheusslich. Auch der vom Wirt vielgepriesene Retsina ist nur teuer, schmeckt aber kaum geharzt. Früher gab es beim Ankommen sowie auch bei der Bezahlung je einen Ouzo - auch nichts mehr ! Muß man nicht mehr haben................

Restaurant Athene is not in the center of touristic Munich, in fact, most visitors wouldn't even venture into this beautiful neighborhood (although they should) but would be highly recommended to have lunch or dinner at a delicious, neighborhood Greek restaurant with a lot to choose from. The food is fresh, cooked beautifully and is as authentic Greek as you can get outside of Greece. Whether inside or on the outdoor patio, it's a top choice for a Greek meal in a quiet, leafy locale.

Athene plate: Tzatziki oversalted, souvlaki instead of delicate as described in the menu flowery: dry and hard, Suzuki oversalted in some places and not in others. Gyros oversalted and seasoned far too strongly. Pita bread burnt in many places and no fresh garlic, but garlic from a jar, all in all: like in many other Greek restaurants, everything was way too salty - an old trick so that people drink more. Positive: real small farmer's salad without leaf lettuce as it should be for a small extra charge. However, the cucumbers were slightly shriveled, indicating that they were prepared a long time in advance but were not covered with foil. In addition, there is no Malamatina, only overpriced Retsina in 0.2 glasses.

Lovely food, great staff and large outdoor seating area. Shame we only found this restaurant on the last day of our trip, would definitely return if we go back to Munich.

Favorite restaurant in Europe! The food is outstanding and the service even better. The waiter paid extra attention to our children to make sure they had a great experience. He made great recommendations and we loved everything! We highly recommend Restaurant Athene!

Waiter literally grabbed me in oder to move my arm out the way to put down cutlery. Absolutely rude. Seriously rude. Very sad indeed. Seriously the waiter grabs the customers like he is a nightclub bouncer. I thought I was dreaming or something like "did that actually happen?". Disgraceful. 2 stars as food was good and prices were good, but I can get good food for good prices in a supermarket. Service matters. Your service is atrocious. In response to the spurious claim I was no guest of theirs, I was a guest of Restaurant Athene in 2021, as part of a group. As previously mentioned, the food was acceptable, but the waiter, an older man at least 40 or 50, physically grabbed my arm while I was seated at the table. It is apalling behaviour from an establishment. Even in Germany, a land known for rude waiters, I have never experienced anything like this, before or since. If you did this in my country, I would honestly press assault charges.

Dishes were tasty and priced reasonably, but not extraordinarily good. Service was friendly and fast. Decent place with very tasty Greek dishes.

The lunch menu is definitely recommended. The portions are a little smaller than usual, but sufficient and the price-performance ratio is completely fine. The staff seemed a bit bored at first, but still looked after us well. A large terrace with an awning offers a pleasant outdoor stay in summer.

Nice service and very good food

This location is easy to find. There is a hedge separating you from the main road. Plenty of seating. The service was quick. Food was hearty and authentic greek. I ordered the mythos plate which is a combination of calamari and gyros. There is an option to have a greek salad as side. All in all good food, worth the money and highly recommended.

Update summer 2024 Munich again, Athena again. As before, we were greeted warmly and served quickly. The food was served in almost record time and this time a waiter showed up regularly. Clear recommendation for anyone who wants to eat very good Greek food in Munich at fair prices. Credit card payments are now also accepted. Update summer 2021 We ate there again. The food was again excellent. Unfortunately the service wasn't very attentive this time and unfortunately credit card payments are not accepted either. Summer - 2020 Centrally located at the subway stop. Staff very friendly and accommodating. The food tastes excellent and is really inexpensive. Gladly again!

A very nice Greek restaurant! The waiter was very friendly and humorous. The roasted lamb leg he recommended is tender and does not smell like barnyard. The traditional yogurt dessert is also very good! We're gonna miss this restaurant forever.

I think we had a wonderful experience here and it was one of the most precious parts of our trip. The food tastes very good, especially the rack of lamb and baby calamari and octopus. Originally it was honey greek yogurt, but it was thoughtfully replaced with strawberry jam (if I'm not wrong). I really like the service here, and we had a very happy chat, which enriched our sensory experience. We must not miss it!

Great service and delicious food 💯

Athene is the first Greek restaurant where I wasn't offered ouzo after eating. The meal was okay. I had the Athene record. The souvláki was good, while the gyro was a bit too greasy. There was so much garlic on the pita that I will remember it in 2-3 days. The staff could be more attentive, but they are quite nice. It's nice to sit outside under the awning. Inside, the shop is reminiscent of a sauna. The prices are quite fair, but that's not enough to make the visit something special.

The portions are manageable. You have to look for more expensive ingredients such as ink/fish on the plates. In my opinion, potatoes are frozen goods that have already been cut. Service is OK.

We came to the restaurant because of the very good reviews. Luckily for us, we were able to get a table outside without a reservation. The service is very friendly and accommodating. The quality of the food in the dishes is convincing. The food is very tasty. The prices for Munich are almost too cheap to be true. Overall, highly recommended. Bolder of the dishes will also be made on the next visit.

The restaurant was quite full when we visited on a Saturday evening but our food arrived really quick and service throughout was friendly and quick. As a half greek (my father was greek) my expectations were high. I took my Swedish colleagues there during the trade show in Munich. My colleagues where surprised about the quality of food, the familiar atmosphere and great service. Some of them had never (!) tasted greek food and said “wow” “great taste” I must say I was impressed and will be back if I am in Munich again! Worth every €

Very cozy Greek restaurant very close to the U1, and an excellent option to escape from the Bavarian places when you have already tired of them. Mains well prepared and at reasonable prices. The guys who serve you are really nice too. You have to keep an eye on the price of the drinks, which, as in all of Munich, are a little overpriced.

Good and attentive service. The dishes are down-to-earth and without fancy and the prices are right. The wine list is interesting, as it has many interesting wines from Greece - far away from the usual Imiglykos 😁 We really enjoyed the evening. Καλό Πάσχα Στράτος και Ίνες

Had dinner there. Actually it was ok but after I gave a dish to a waiter because it wasn't fresh, they said that it was prepared that way and that's how it should be. Sorry, but if something ferments, it's rarely intentional. There was no further apology or compensation. A pity.

This is authentic Greek restaurant. The servers are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a cozy feel. We had the Halumi cheese, octopus with calamari, Mythos plate, stuffed peppers and milk lamb. All of it was artfully spiced and delicious. Try the baklava and semolina cake too because they one of a kind.

The food was amazing and the prices really really good!!! I went to celebrate my bday with some friends and they gave me a piece of cake to blow the candles. I highly recommend this place. They have also a nice terrace outside, I think in summer it has to be really cool to have dinner outside. I will come back for sure! 😊

Very good Greek style restaurant with a great service

The restaurant is okay. A visit there is certainly not a mistake but also not a real insider tip. The ambience is very nice and the service is nice. The food was the weakest part of the visit. The portion sizes were clearly too small. (Starter + main course + dessert are not really enough to fill you up.) And the food seemed a bit bland otherwise? Absolutely middle class in terms of taste. I don't know, as I said, it's an okay restaurant where you can certainly spend a nice evening. But definitely not something I would necessarily recommend.

We sat right next to the stairs to the toilets and unfortunately that's what it smelled like. The waiter wanted to follow up... The food was great!

Nice atmosphere and a very friendly host. My favorite is Kanapedakia, it is a must to eat. I tried Baby calamari and Pita with garlic, and galaktoboureko as a dessert. They were all delicious.

Taste was ok but not many vegetarian options

Had dinner here with my girlfriend. We come from Berlin and are currently on vacation in Munich. The Greek convinced us and we were not disappointed. The gyros I ate there were the best I've ever had. The meat was juicy but also soft and crispy at the same time. If we are in Munich again we would like to come back. Price-performance ratio is also top.

Excellent Greek food and super friendly staff! Was especially impressed by the grilled lamb rack, crispy outside and very tender, juicy inside. The broiled feta cheese also has a very creamy texture. Had a wonderful night here! Would surely recommend it to other people! 💯

I have never eaten Greek as well as I did here in my life. We came here by chance two years ago and since then, every time we are in Munich we come here to enjoy this good food. The staff is also super friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is perfect. See you next time !
