We were surprised when we arrived. It was Saturday evening and the restaurant was practically empty. The reason soon became clear. The waiter was completely overwhelmed. We had to place our drink order three times. We finally ordered food, and after 20 minutes another waiter came and had it confirmed again for the kitchen. Of course, what the previous waiter had written down was incorrect. The food arrived another 20 minutes later. Our request to change the order from tzatziki to Metaxa sauce was ignored. They simply left out the tzatziki. When we asked for it, they brought the Metaxa sauce and charged us an extra 5 euros. However, this concoction was far from Metaxa sauce. It was just water, flour, and a few carrot strips—in other words, inedible. The meat was either burnt or undercooked. All in all, not worth a visit.

The food was good. The atmosphere and service were okay. Card payments were not accepted.

Well, the food was okay, but far from authentic Greek cuisine. Unfortunately, the kitchen seems to have issues with cooking the food to the right degree. The meat tasted quite old. The service was more reminiscent of a military commander. Prices were no different than in major cities like Munich. However, they only accepted cash.

The food (fish and seafood platter; baked gyros) was excellent, the service was great and very friendly; dessert and drinks were top-notch. Prices were moderate. Plenty of parking.

We always enjoy eating here; we highly recommend it. Friendly staff, and the food is good and plentiful 👍, as well as reasonably priced.

According to the menu, a plate of ouzo was supposed to come with gyros and souvlaki. Strangely, there was a considerable amount of fried minced meat (possibly leftovers from a bifteki) mixed in with the gyros. The staff certainly had language barriers, so things didn't go smoothly here either. It should be a given that you receive a bill upon payment... nope, not here. One just gave a few numbers on the back of a receipt. I had to come back the next day to discuss it again. I needed a bill for what I had eaten, not the entire table. Please note, they only accept cash payments. I can't recommend this restaurant and wouldn't go back myself.

The food wasn't good at all. I returned my first meal because it was inedible. They gave me a replacement, but unfortunately, I didn't really have much appetite after that. The ambiance was far too cluttered and dated, and there were communication issues. Overall, I can't recommend it!

The food was delicious, especially the fries (crispy and well-seasoned). The music system seems a bit dated and sometimes grew louder and quieter, sometimes playing only in certain corners, which was rather amusing, though. Unfortunately, the waiter seemed completely overwhelmed and had forgotten about us. We waited at least 20 minutes to pay. If we weren't under pressure, this probably wouldn't have bothered us so much, but unfortunately, it did. Nevertheless, we'll definitely be happy to come back... just with a little more time next time. 😉

I don't know what language the waiter was speaking, as he muttered something indistinctly under his breath. Our German isn't the best, but I think we understood each other because we got what we ordered. We were greeted with ozzie and a vegetable appetizer. Everyone enjoyed the food, some of the portions were very generous. However, the liver I ordered was terrible; I've never had a more rotten dish; a shoe sole would probably be easier to eat. The gyros I ordered were rated very good, and the biftecks ​​were also delicious, but the Leber vom Grill was awful.

The overall ambiance feels cluttered, and the unusual mix of items creates a disjointed impression. During our stay, the fire alarm beeped incessantly, which was very distracting. The same music played constantly in the background, and at a much too loud volume. Communication with the service staff was difficult due to language barriers. The overall impression was very chaotic. All in all, I cannot recommend the restaurant and would not return.

We had a wonderful meal here and enjoyed a lovely ouzo afterward. It was very nice that we were allowed to try the retsina beforehand. We'd love to come back next time we're in Thuringia. Yamas! Best wishes from Rostock!

The best place to taste Greek food in a nice atmosphere. The food was so tasty & fresh. The portion is big, freshly cooked. At the end they give dessert also. The service is excellent, wanted to give more than 5 stars but that the maximum which is possible to give 😁. The payment can be done only in cash but don’t be afraid if you don’t have cash as next to restaurant there is bank automate. Big thank you, for your dedication & service!!!

The service is attentive, quick, polite, and very friendly. I really like it when everything isn't so stiff and formal; after all, I want to feel comfortable. I think the value for money is absolutely fine. The fact that you can only pay in cash is completely irrelevant to me, and I think the late-night surcharge is entirely justified (anyone who works in the restaurant industry can definitely understand this). Kudos to the kitchen staff and waitresses, you're doing a great job, keep up the good work!!!!

Stomachache included!!! + Dirty tablecloths !!!!! This restaurant is not recommended at all. There were two of us with a child. Ordered pasta with tomato sauce for the child – what arrived was a meat sauce with thick peppercorns. (They only tried it and set it aside.) I had a bifteki that should normally be filled with feta cheese...it was filled with Gouda and really had nothing to do with a bifteki!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the last meal – gyros – smelled rotten... We paid and left, speechless and shocked!!! This restaurant should be closed immediately!!

Absolutely thrilled with the Athene Palace in Meiningen! You're warmly welcomed as soon as you enter – the entire staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and immediately creates a feel-good atmosphere. The food is simply top-notch: freshly prepared, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. You can tell the cooking here is done with love and passion. The ambiance is equally impressive – well-kept, inviting, and designed with great attention to detail. Everything just fits perfectly here: great hosts, first-class service, outstanding food, and an all-round harmonious package. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Athene Palace and am already looking forward to being a guest here again soon.

Unfortunately, it wasn't good. We've been there several times, and it was always very good. But this time it wasn't good. The gyro was a vegetable gyro with lots of vegetables and not much meat. The drink selection wasn't good either (no non-alcoholic drinks, no blackcurrant spritzer), etc. Unfortunately, the service wasn't there often (empty glasses). TOO BAD

I go to Meiningen every year for vacation, and a visit to this Greek restaurant is a must! Pleasant atmosphere, super delicious food, and even if you arrive just before closing time, the staff always try to fulfill your every special request. Even the wait for takeout is sweetened with ouzo or other drinks on the house. The price/performance ratio is also incredible. So at least an 11 out of 10 overall.

Four of us were there one evening, and of the four drinks we ordered, one was perfect. The food was okay, but the service was sloppy. The free dessert was yogurt with sweetener, and only the men got an ouzo each. If you want to have fun, you can get it here.

The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired, with dirty tablecloths and a fair amount of chaos. The waiter was completely overwhelmed until a temporary assistant arrived at 7 p.m., and the young man had everything under control right away. His boss's oversight of orders – especially incorrect ones – was immediately recognized and corrected; we felt a bit sorry for him. Despite everything, the food was very tasty, with great roasted meat, juicy, and truly good. Overall, a restaurant that desperately needs work and improvements are welcome.

The food was okay and arrived quickly. The waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed despite the small number of customers; no greeting, difficulty understanding, no knowledge of the menu, and constant questioning. Some of the cutlery was still dirty. Payment was cash only, and you had to pay an additional €1.50 to pack leftover food (and put it in the enclosed bag yourself...?). It all seemed a bit strange... We had booked a room in the hotel above and found it convenient that there was a restaurant right downstairs. As soon as we sat down, the waiter looked as if he didn't want any customers. This unfriendliness continued throughout the entire evening. Even bringing missing cutlery was too much for him. The food was so-so; my gyro had probably died three times. The rest of the meat was also very cooked. The tzatziki was rather watery and had little flavor. Furthermore, you can't pay with a card these days. Why? The nerve, which we didn't fall for, is that after 9:30 p.m., the food becomes between 10 and 30% more expensive. This isn't mentioned on the menu, however, but only on a note somewhere in the restaurant. So, enough reasons not to come here again. I know Greeks differently: always hospitable and courteous.

Unfortunately, our souvlaki smelled so incredibly rotten that we completely lost our appetite. Luckily, we had an appetizer, otherwise we would have starved. When we pointed out to the waiter that our meat smelled very bad and was inedible, he just grinned – sad! Never again.

⭐ An Odyssey of Bad Taste – My Journey to the “Greece of Bad Taste” When you think you've seen it all – fast food, burnt schnitzel at the outdoor pool kiosk, sushi from the supermarket – this Greek restaurant comes along and says, “Hold my ouzo.” As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with a friendly look that said, “What do you want here?” The decor? A wild mix of ancient fake columns, plastic olive trees, and a bust of Zeus that looked like it had spent the last 3,000 years in an attic in Bottrop. The menu was an epic poem – not by Homer, but probably compiled by a bored, half-asleep apprentice. Gyros, souvlaki, moussaka – everything you don't want if you have good taste. I ordered the gyros. What arrived was a dry meat graveyard, so chewy that even the toothpick would have to stop. Along with fries that were either from 1997 or accidentally fried with candle wax. The side salad had the consistency of moist origami. The onions were the only part with any character—they cried almost as much as I did. The waiter? A cross between a Greek tragedian and a barroom philosopher. Every word sounded like a threat. The only friendly person was the fly that kept us company at the table. And the best part: When I paid, I was allowed to guess whether the tip was for the service or for my silent pain. I paid with a smile—which screamed inside. Conclusion: If Aristotle said the goal of life is happiness—then this evening was philosophical proof to the contrary. I am now a different person. A broken, hungry person. Thanks for nothing, "Greek Restaurant of My Oblivion." ⭐

Unfortunately, we went home really disappointed. First, let's talk about the obscure circumstances: There are two inconspicuous signs hanging at the entrance of the store. One reads "Cash Only." Nothing surprising at first, but you don't get any notice of this when ordering. The second inconspicuous sign at the entrance then read: "From 9:30 p.m., a 10-30% surcharge on all prices" – that's unbelievable and, as far as I know, also illegal? That you walk in, order, and aren't told that it's between 10% and 30% more expensive, which is probably decided based on personal discretion at the time? If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't believe it either. As for the food: the appetizers were solid. I've never been served toast at a Greek restaurant, but oh well, I don't want to dwell on that, even if it's weird 😅 The Metaxa sauce was just a cream sauce with some stock cubes in it, so unfortunately it was almost inedible. The highlight, however, was the calamari: super tender and freshly made. It really surprised us. The portions were huge; probably some guests come to get a cheap, moderately tasty meal. The service was moderately boring, but actually quite nice. I wouldn't come again!

The food was okay. Mine was at least cooked through, while my colleague's was almost raw, see the pictures. When it came to the bill, the waiter suddenly wanted to change the prices. We celebrated our wedding at this restaurant and were extremely satisfied. The service was excellent, and the staff were incredibly friendly. The food was also second to none. All of our guests raved about the food. We were accommodated in a private room for the celebration, which was lovingly decorated. We can definitely recommend this restaurant 👍🏻

We had to wait a very long time for the food. It was extremely salty. The dish topped with cheese consisted mostly of cheese. The highlight, however, is that the prices on the menu are incorrect! Every dish and drink was at least €1 more expensive than stated. Then we ordered a large bottle of water. We received a 0.5 liter. We were charged for 0.7 liters, which ended up costing over €7. Unfortunately, we only realized this when it was too late. The positive: the server was nice. We won't go there again and can't recommend it to anyone else.

Lovely Greek restaurant in Meiningen – in Kaiserpark. Extensive menu with cold and hot appetizers, various grilled and oven-baked dishes, and plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus a small dessert menu. Special requests were easily accommodated, with very friendly and attentive service. Decent portions, fresh, hot, and delicious. Prices are quite reasonable. Plenty of indoor seating and a few outdoor areas. Plenty of free parking. Highly recommended.

Essen und Ambiente toll ! Kellner war ein Totalausfall! Erste Bestellung der Getränke und des Essens war noch normal und dann ging nichts mehr … kein Nachfragen ob man noch etwas möchte . Wir hatten noch eine Runde Ouzo bestellt… der kam eine halbe Stunde später … die bestellte Rechnung ebenso. Das Restaurant war alles andere als voll und wir waren nicht die Einzigen die ewig warten mussten.

The food was really delicious, the waiters were nice, but the music was a bit too loud, and the owner could have been a bit less personable with the customers. I was very irritated when I came to the restaurant with my family and a stranger wanted to shake my hand and said, "You're a man," when I didn't shake his hand directly because I didn't want to be touched. Everyone at my table found this statement unacceptable, even though the owner probably meant it kindly. Overall, though, it's a great restaurant, and the food was delicious.

We have never eaten such bad food. We had souvlaki. The meat smelled strange and tasted strange too. We only ate the fries and left the meat. We also had stuffed eggplant (vegetarian and with minced meat). Here too the cheese smelled very strange. We took it off and then we could eat the eggplants. It's a shame, we actually really like eating Greek.

Yesterday, December 31st, 2024, we ate something in the restaurant on New Year's Eve. The entire service was so overwhelmed by everyone. Ordered 3 drinks and only 2 drinks came. The third drink came after what felt like 20 minutes. We ordered our food from the menu, the food came to the table as requested with a lot of confusion. They didn't ask if everything was OK or anything like that. When paying the bill, which did not correspond to what was ordered, they wanted to give us prices, which we were not informed about. The staff including the boss became rude to us and had discussions. This place is a complete disgrace... I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THERE AGAIN!!

We were in this restaurant on New Year's Eve. Of course it was pretty crowded and confusing on a day like that. It took 1 hour before we were allowed to place our food order (after asking). A salad was served in advance... which was so-so. The food itself was quite ok. - but nothing special, which was perhaps due to the large crowds. The big hammer came with the bill!!! We were charged around €26 per meal per person for the meals, which would have cost between €13 - €16 each. When we asked, we were told succinctly that it was on the first page of the menu: "New Year's Eve menu: 1 salad + 1 dish of your choice = approx. 26 €. (I don't remember the exact amount.) We were not informed of this in advance, nor had we read it. We were just surprised that every table complained about the food bill. Now we knew why. If this had been pointed out in advance, this would not have been a problem. But we felt very fooled. You just don't do that. Next time, maybe focus a little more on the customers.

A restaurant you shouldn't visit if you expect good food! In short: staff not exactly friendly, cutlery and drinking glasses are touched/moved by hand at the top end. Hygiene very questionable. Food: Fries very salty, grilled peppers are just warmed ones (small) from the jar (no sign of the grill), grated carrots certainly prepared, but dried out in the air. Plenty of tzatziki on the menu means 2 small dollops on a separate plate. Bread is hard to eat, you can't chew it. Bruschetta served on slices of bread, watered down after a short time. Tomato rice with canned tomatoes (cold), watered down and tasted terrible. Gyros probably sliced ​​on a skewer hard and tough, fried too long. Meatballs prepared on the grill are over-seasoned and have a musty aftertaste, possibly due to old fat on the grill (again, hygiene). Pieces of meat on skewers very tough and dry. Lamb was okay, tzatziki good but very little. Hospitality with a welcome drink (Uzo) or after a meal does not exist here. Ambience acceptable. I've never been to a restaurant like this, it's just terrible. In this day and age, how can you still lay out carpets and runners in restaurants, there's something lying around everywhere, you feel like you're at a flea market, just plain poor. From 9:30 p.m. onwards, drinks and food are charged between 10 and 30 percent, a pure rip-off .No card payment possible either, not fully refundable.Food lukewarm, dishes not attractive (ancient) and glasses are not polished, lipstick from the previous owner is still on.We should go back to Meiningen Visit, but definitely not eating in this location.

Everything started well, with delicious starters: eggplant and squid salad. Gyros pita: some of the meat was hard and burnt and why with lamb flavor? It doesn't belong there or you write it on the card. The liver dish was charged one euro more expensive and the non-alcoholic wheat beer cost 5.20 euros instead of 4.90 euros according to the menu. I liked the fact that the inside of the establishment is cozy, candles are burning, the dishes are large and beautiful, the plates are original, the choice of dishes on the menu is large, but there are questions about the quality of the meat... The pork tasted like lamb (this was not mentioned in the menu), what I also didn’t like was that the price of the dish on the menu and the price of the dish in the end - according to the bill - did not match, some items were more expensive (the difference is small, but it’s a shame) cooking the liver I didn't like it, it tasted bitter. The restaurant is very inconspicuous at first when you stand in the parking lot, but when you go in, it is large and well attended. We were greeted personally with a handshake and taken to our table in the winter garden. The food was very good and the price was OK too. The staff was very friendly and nice. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately it wasn't as great as I remembered from my last visit. The food was ok, but I wondered why gyros had to have peppers and tomatoes gratinated in them. The garlic bread was slices of toast with garlic cream on top. The boss has a strange sense of humor and thinks he is funny, he is very loud and rude to his staff. The little *auxiliary waiter* was very nice. Orders were forgotten, even after asking several times. The free drink at the end was a nice touch for the inconvenience, but it couldn't change our mind that we wouldn't come back. Too bad.

Where do I start, where do I end? Back in the day, and by that I mean “back in the day” many years ago, this used to be a good restaurant. We were here again after a 3-year break because we wanted to give it another chance. After we had slices of toast smeared with garlic paste as a starter “garlic bread” last time, it was done for us. Now, 3 years later, things are even worse than expected. The only positive thing I can think of to mention is that you can go there quite spontaneously, even on a Saturday evening. In hindsight, this was a warning sign that I had ignored. The negative aspects are so dramatic that I can't understand anyone who still goes there voluntarily. 1. We were led into the completely emotionless “winter garden”. However, we had to run after the service staff because he probably wanted to do a sprint. In a sprint he snatched two menus from another table and placed them on a table, which was probably supposed to tell us that this was our place. The tablecloth lying on it was so dirty that we had to fold it down to avoid looking at the misery. There was no response at all when this was pointed out 2. the service person seemed to want to impress us that he could remember the drink order with 3 drinks. A little fact on the side: he couldn't. He came back with 2 drinks and asked what else we wanted. No problem, it can happen 3. After sitting for about 25 minutes we were asked what we would like to eat. 2 starters + 2 main courses. Lo and behold: 1 of the selected main courses was not in stock. Ok, it can happen. I'll just take something else. The four dishes were written down on a crumpled up piece of paper, which was just barely recognizable as paper 4. After a whopping 45 minutes of waiting, it wasn't the starter but the main course. And that was wrong too. Instead of fries, rice was brought. After the problem was addressed, they took it away and replaced it with lukewarm fries. You forgot the starter. We were offered to take the appetizer home with us 5. For both main courses, chicken and lamb, the meat was tough and fried for too long. Some of the lamb chops were completely black. The side salad only tasted like onion, suggesting that everything was cut with the same knife. 6. The menu says number 68: 5 lamb chops. There were only 4 on my plate. When I raised the issue, I was given a curt answer that these chops were larger than usual and that's why there were only 4 of them 7. I ordered garlic sauce for my main course. I got cold garlic paste in a bowl At the end we were offered an ouzo on the house as an apology, which we declined because we had to drive. Since it was all too much for me and the service just wasn't worth it, I didn't tip. The staff didn't like that at all. He “threw” our change on the table, turned around and ran away again. Oh well: EC card payments will not yet be possible here in 2024. That was definitely the last time here for us.

Gyros gratinated with Metaxa sauce, zero taste. Waited over an hour for the food. Then when you complain the boss is totally pissed off. If you treat your guests like that, you are too confident in your existence. Then not even card payment possible. Absolutely pathetic!!!!!! Not recommended!!!!!!!

Solid food, reasonable prices, very friendly staff. Depends somewhat on the mood of the chefs. Could be a bit cleaner in general.

Everything was really great and actually 5 stars but a normal sized cola costs €4.60. The prices of the dishes were fair.

Food was not terrible, not great. But after we were done eating we found out they don't take card payments. This was on a sign in german hidden on the wall next to the door when you enter the place. We don't speak or read German. This looked like an established place, under a hotel, that should have card payments. Pan handlers take card payment for god's sake.

It was a real pleasure to have Greek food here. Very friendly and courteous service and very tasty food without excessive quantities. I really think it's a shame that I was just passing through here. A very clear recommendation from me.

A great restaurant very tasty food and the young waiter was very attentive. The ambience was very pleasant, great style. Unfortunately it was very disappointing that you couldn't pay by card and there were no signs! In addition, the bill was initially incorrect, but this was resolved.

We went to the Steam Locomotive Days in Meiningen at the weekend and to the Athene Pallas in the evening. We were very surprised at the great atmosphere this restaurant has. We haven't found a comparable Greek restaurant at home in the city, although there are a few Greeks here. We sat on the terrace in quiet surroundings. The food not only tasted excellent, it was plentiful and something special to the eye! The house donated the salad garnish. The young German waiter in particular, as well as the boss himself, were courteous and took great care of us. We'll come back when we're in Meiningen.

Those who gave 1-3 stars here speak from my heart. My husband rated this restaurant two stars. Rightly so! The owner didn't like that at all. GOOGLE deleted this review. Where is the right to freely evaluate? The "winter garden" was put together, the food was only partly what we ordered, the waiter didn't understand us and it didn't taste good. It would be nice if this rating stayed in the system. THANKS Google.

Disappointed by such amateurism At the front door we laughed when we read “Mask requirement” and “... a healthy new 2023”!!! There are actually makeshift partitions between the tables. Are you traveling back in time to 2020? Since negative reviews have occurred almost exclusively in the last few weeks, it may be. Have you changed operator or have all previous bad reviews deleted? One does not know ... But now to the food: Unfortunately, almost everything we had seemed to come "from the bucket" (finished products that you can buy yourself in the supermarket and eat at home), but well, the prices were correspondingly low. What's disappointing is that you don't get what's on the menu. Breaded "sheep's cheese" is made here from Gouda or similar, tzatziki without any advertised accessories, the Kalamon olives (they have to be self-ripened dark olives) so no green or blackened ones like those served here. The mixed bread and toast slices served with the starters are completely wrong. Where am I? In a Greek restaurant??? etc. etc. Conclusion: Never again! PS: you can't pay by card here for "technical reasons". But apparently with Paypal, Googlepay or other electronic methods??? *lol*

Worth one star at most... In the summer, almost raw meat, the fries were covered in cheese, even though I as a customer didn't ask for it, and when I asked, there was no new portion. We had ordered more drinks, we received the bill and were sent off!!!! SAD!
