Restaurant "1835" in Wernigerode

My wife and I were guests with our 4 year old nephew. Since we had already had a very good experience with the restaurant in the spring and our nephew is really into trains, we thought it would be a good choice. Unfortunately, since there were three of us, we were seated at a table in the corner that was much too small for two. Although the tables by the window would have been free. We were told that these would be reserved for larger groups when we asked. A family of three people who came after us were still allowed to sit at the larger tables. The quality of the food dropped significantly on our first visit. The fried potatoes were anything but freshly prepared. The meat was also looked for in the starter (spiced meat). The railway ambience easily saved the evening.

The food was okay so far, only the baked potato wasn't completely cooked through, which unfortunately the waitress didn't really respond to. It's a shame actually.

Like some previous posts, the Altora team always tried hard. After about 20 minutes we had our drink and after 30 minutes our food was to be consumed. But then we decided on another restaurant. A good decision. Railway workers' bar, delays and train cancellations.

Today we were at Restaurant 1835 in Wernigerode for the first time. We had ordered a table by the window in advance by phone... because here the drinks are "brought" to the place by train. A really nice idea. From the window you have a beautiful view of the Harz narrow-gauge railway. The restaurant is simple but very rustic and we received a friendly welcome. You immediately feel very comfortable here. The menu is very diverse. My husband chose the spaghetti aglio e olio and I chose the veal steak au four. We didn't have to wait long for the food and it was delicious. We would be happy to come back. Unfortunately, the menu on the homepage is no longer up to date and should be revised.

We knew the restaurant from the previous year and that's why we went there again. But what we have experienced now is a mess. The service was unsympathetic and unfriendly. One customer was even shouted at loudly by the waiter (I don't know why), but in front of all the other guests. That was foreign shame Half of the menu wasn't available, but we weren't told that until we wanted to order. So some decisions had to be made. Then the food was a disaster. Everything was thawed and warmed up. One schnitzel was even bloody. Nothing tasted good and there was no trace of freshness.

Food was delicious. But it was mini trains that stole the show. The idea of delivering drinks through them was amazing.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 days and were very satisfied. Unfortunately we ate at Restaurant 1835 every evening. The staff is extremely friendly and nice, but the food is a disaster. The beef goulash was completely dry chunks of meat, partly burnt black and covered in a heavy mush. Not only did I let the plate go back half full, other guests did too. The sour meat was far too large a portion. The fried potatoes on the plate would have been enough for two meals and the side salad was always placed on the plate or partially under the meat, that's not possible. With the baked potato with beef steak, only the steak tasted good, not the baked potato with an indefinable and not tasty herb cream. I would have liked to have had my salad extra with the Wiener Schnitzel, but everything came back on a plate and the Wiener Schnitzel was on top of the salad, which I never liked anyway. The locomotive that brings the beer doesn't take it out either. I wouldn't go there for dinner anymore. The only positive thing was the breakfast and the selection of cheese and sausage, which was delivered by a butcher.

Wir waren 5 Tage im Hotel und hier sehr zufrieden. Leider haben wir jeden Abend im Restaurant 1835 gegessen. Das Personal ist überaus freundlich und nett, aber das Essen ist eine Katastrophe. Das Rindergulasch war total trockene Fleischbrocken, teilweise schwarz verbrannt und mit einer schweren Pampe überschüttet. Nicht nur ich lies den Teller halb voll zurück gehen ,auch andere Gäste. Das Sauerfleisch war eine viel zu große Portion. Die Bratkartoffeln auf dem Teller hätten für zwei Essen gereicht und der Beilagen Salat wurde immer mit auf den Teller, oder teilweise unter das Fleisch gelegt, das geht gar nicht. Bei der Ofenkartoffel mit Rindersteak, schmeckte nur das Steak, nicht die Ofenkartoffel mit einer undefinierbaren und nicht schmackhaften Kräutercreme. Beim Wiener Schnitzel hätte ich gerne mal meinen Salat extra gehabt ,kam aber alles wieder auf einem Teller und das Wiener Schnitzel lag auf dem Salat, der mir sowieso nie schmeckte. Die Lokomotive, die das Bier bringt , reist es nun auch nicht raus .Zum Abendessen würde ich da nicht mehr hingehen. Das einzig positive , war das Frühstück und hier die Käse und Wurstauswahl, welche von einem Metzger geliefert wird.

The interior with the model trains (windows & ceiling), which can also bring drinks to the windows, is quite interesting. I can't say anything about the entire range of dishes, but my burger didn't demonstrate any "core competence".

That was the absolute experience of our vacation in Wernigerode. The atmosphere was unique, our grandchildren could hardly wait for the next model railway departure. Children and adults had fun, the food was extensive and suited every taste. The service was very friendly and careful. Simply great 👍🏼 The next biker tour is going there too! Just don’t forget to reserve…😉

We had ordered a table for 3 people by the window and got it! The food was delicious, but unfortunately not particularly warm! The furnishings are simple, but original thanks to the railways. The drinks are transported to the table by train! A highlight, especially for children!

It was very easy to reserve a table online. Nice friendly welcome and fast service. Fun atmosphere with the trains also bringing drinks. Good menu, delicious food and good value for money.

Our first visit to Restaurant 1835 and we really enjoyed it there. We had reserved a table online the days before and asked to sit by the window, unfortunately it didn't work out. We would have been happy to get the drinks on the model train. But the most important thing is that the food was delicious and served very quickly. We found the ambience with the “railroad” theme to be really cool, appropriate if you have the Brockenbahn (HSB) on your doorstep. The service was also good, with a lot of humor, always something to say. Conclusion: The restaurant can only be recommended, despite everything we found our stay there very pleasant.

Very nice restaurant that is dedicated to the theme of railways. The food was very tasty and the drinks were also served appropriately. The staff is professional and friendly. Unfortunately we didn't have the benefit of the drinks being delivered by the railway. Perhaps an extension of the route would still be possible. Nevertheless, we would love to come back.

Very good all around, you have a good view of the HSB, you can watch the coaling and shunting and watch the train being served in the restaurant. The service was extremely nice and accommodating. The food is home-style and good value for money

Delicious dish. The ox cheeks were great and tender. The dumplings, red cabbage and salad were okay. Maybe homemade, maybe not. Serving it on a plate doesn't appeal to me at all. Neither does the grandma plate style.

A little disappointed with the food, the pictures promised otherwise. For me these weren't fresh ingredients (canned vegetables). A funny highlight is the lock that brings you the drinks. Nice staff! Rustically furnished

Luckily we had reserved a table. The restaurant was quite busy, it took a while. Food was good to very good, staff friendly but a little stressed. The portions were a little smaller than in comparable restaurants in town that we had also visited.

The food was excellent and also plentiful. Service great and accommodating. The train with drinks is of course interesting for children. We will definitely come back.

The atmosphere is very pleasant. Small trains run on the ceiling and also bring drinks. The service is friendly and the drinks came relatively quickly. Unfortunately, my companion and I had to wait about an hour for the food. The food was also not satisfactory. The burger didn't live up to its promise for this price (the portion wasn't enough). There are also some deductions for the Schnitzel Jäger style. The portion itself is large, the fries are also okay. However, I personally wasn't convinced by the mushrooms. Burnt. No further words can be found here. But it's not just when it comes to food that you can make compromises. If you are not a visitor to the adjacent hotel, you will also have problems finding a parking space. If you still decide to visit, we recommend the parking garage at the Old Town Passage. We certainly hoped for more and are quite disappointed.

I had the chili cheeseburger with homemade potato chips. The reserved table was available immediately and we were seated quickly. Unfortunately the drinks only come to the large tables (4+ people) by train. Despite this, the ambience is quite well designed. After our order was taken we waited about 1h 10min. The waiting time wouldn't have been a problem if the quality of the food was anything like that. However, I have to be honest and say that the burger lacked both stability and a good sauce or something similar. Although the meat was perfectly cooked, the rest of the burger was too dry. The brioche bun was completely burnt at the bottom.

Delicious food is complemented by friendly and quick service. Great atmosphere for railway fans, because the view from the window is aimed directly at the HSB steam locomotives. The kids were also very busy in the play area and were set at the table with appropriate cutlery and good food. Definitely worth a visit for the whole family. Again any time.

An interesting restaurant with a railway theme. A model train runs above the tables or under the ceiling. A model train brings the drinks to the tables located on the outside wall. The good food is brought to the table by friendly waitresses. From the guest room you have a direct view of the coaling plant and the exit/entrance track of the HSB.

I had reserved a table here because my husband is a train fan and specifically asked for a table by the window 4 weeks in advance. Unfortunately, couples are probably not allowed to sit at the window as there are only large tables there, we could have been told that in advance. The waiter was overwhelmed with the delivery of drinks. There could have been a bit more train decoration as it is advertised as a train restaurant. The food was good, unfortunately my schnitzel was a bit black on the edge.

Unfortunately we had to wait more than 45 minutes before we could order food and then it took a very long time until it came. Not very nice with hungry children. The staff seemed new and not yet trained. Food was nothing special, price/performance was rather poor.

Everything just fits here. Super nice, cheerful waiters. Nice menu, delicious dishes. The drinks are served by a small steam locomotive if you sit by the window, the rails run on the windowsill.

It was super nice and friendly there, the children (including us adults) were of course delighted with the train, which reliably supplied us with drinks. It's a little experience and something different. Schnitzel and burgers were pretty tasty and pretty to look at too. The service was super nice, attentive and patient with the children and worked quickly and competently.

The service was great, very friendly and quick. The kitchen should be worked on. The starters were good, the main courses could be improved. The chef should not be visible to the guests and should not argue with the wait staff.

We were eating at 1835 with 7 people, I have rarely experienced such friendly and flexible service, the food was very good and the train that delivers the drinks is simply amazing, we would love to come back

It's a shame, but frozen veal schnitzel isn't possible for the price. Didn't taste like anything. Service was very nice and ambience was oh good, sorry.

1. Schnitzel with Harz cheese gratinated. Fries were completely soggy Lettuce wilted with kebab flavor 2. Schnitzel Viennese style of pork max 4 mm thin meat less than 100 grams with a completely burnt breading and a salad with a taste of kebab stall and flowers (strange) I don't try again for the third time and I'm cured

Sehr schönes Restaurant,, mit ein paar schönen Highlights, Essen ist sehr gut und das Personal war freundlich.

Es war alles gut, nur ist mir unangenehm "aufgestoßen", dass die Bedienung bei der Bezahlung nicht einmal "Danke" für das gezahlte Trinkgeld gesagt hat. Es war nicht wenig...

Alles in allem war es okay. Der Service war aufmerksam und freundlich, das Ambiente war nett und außergewöhnlich mit der Eisenbahn, die Getränke bringt, aber vom Essen waren wir etwas enttäuscht. Das Rindergulasch war zart und soweit lecker, Klöße und Rotkohl waren aber maximal lauwarm und hätten kräftiger gewürzt sein können. Das Jägerschnitzel war soweit in Ordnung, die Bratkartoffeln leider entweder sehr fettig oder schon angebrannt, der Beilagensalat etwas lieblos. Wir haben zu vergleichbaren Preisen schon deutlich besser gegessen. Schade, unsere Erwartungen wurden leider nicht erfüllt.

Das Essen war qualitätiv mittelprächtig und kann ,nach unserer Erfahrung, mit dem Ambiente nicht mithalten. Sehr schön auf Bahnhof und Eisenbahn dekoriert. Die Getränke bringt die Bahn. Die Freundlichkeit ist ausbaufähig. Der Herr war etwas genervt und brüsk. Ein No-go in Hotel und Restaurant.

Wir waren mit der Familie dort, alles hat gepasst, Highlight ist die Bahn mit den Getränken. Wir werden im Sommer wieder vorbeischauen!!!!

Das Zug-Ambiente ist super, Bedienung ist Klasse und das Essen schmeckt. Dazu schöne Sicht auf den HSB Bahnhof.

Aufmerksame Bedienung, Leckeres Essen (Das Rib-Eye-Steak!) und eine tolle Eisenbahn, die die Getränke bringt. Fantastisch!

Wir haben in diesem Hotel 5 Tage verbracht mit Hund. Jeder Zeit wieder!!; Alle Angestellten waren super nett und haben unseren Hund verwöhnt. Das Frühstücksbuffet war außerordentlich gut , mit Spezialitäten aus dem Harz ( Wurst ) Das Zimmer war sauber und sehr geräumig. Das am Abend die Getränke per Zug gebracht wurden war zusätzlich eine tolle Idee. Ich kann diese Hotel nur wärmstens empfehlen!!!

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von neun Personen im Restaurant zum Abendessen und wurden freundlich zuvorkommend und schnell bedient. Das Essen war sehr, sehr schmackhaft und alle Portionen sind sehr reichhaltig. Gutes Rustikales Restaurant und wer ein Tisch am Fenster hat, bekommt die Getränke auf einem Zug zum Tisch gebracht. Unsere Gruppe war im Vorfeld etwas unsicher, dort im Restaurant zu essen, da einige Rezessionen nicht gerade gut ausgefallen sind. Das muss ich aber im Nachgang absolut widersprechen da wir wirklich alle komplett mit dem Essen zufrieden waren. Hinzu kommt, dass jeder ein anderes Gericht hatte. Wir kommen gerne wieder und sagen noch mal danke für einen schönen Geburtstagsabend in eurem Restaurant.

Das Essen war ok. Wenn man die Teller anrichtet kann man sie besser anrichten. Es kann nicht zuviel verlangt sein das ein bisschen Garnitur drauf ist und nicht einfach so... Als der Kellner die Teller abräumte meinte er nur:da brauch man nicht zu fragen ob es geschmeckt hat. War bisschen komisch ausgedrückt.

4 Tage Hotel Altora und Restaurant 1835, nie wieder. Es gibt wenig positives zu berichten, die Brötchen zum Frühstück waren noch warm, kamen gerade aus dem Ofen, wirklich toll. Das Personal zu 90% freundlich und die Servier-Eisenbahn ist sehr witzig. Das erste und einzige Abendessen war eine Katastrophe, 4 verschiedene Gerichte und nicht eins war ok. Schnitzel mit Pommes, Schnitzel ging so, Pommes sind an der Fritt nur vorbei. Blutwurst eklig fett, Kartoffelecken dunkel, aber nicht vom Braten, Salatteller- total versandeter Blattsalat, 2 Scheiben Gurke, 2 Ecken Tomaten, ein Teelöffel Dressing ( Himbeeren und Essig) und 2 Kanten vom Brötchen - knochenhart. Mein vegetarisches Essen kam mit Speckwürfel, die Champignons lagen im Wasser, die Schmorzwiebeln waren genießbar. Als wir Sonntagabend (21:30 Uhr) noch einen Drink nehmen wollten, wurde uns der Eintritt mit der Aussage, Sie habe die Kasse schon abgedreht und es sei eh nichts los gewesen, verwehrt. Das Restaurant schließt um 22:00 Uhr und wir waren ca. 15 Personen, hat man da noch Fragen???? Ich frage mich wo die vielen positiven Einträge, die an der Eingangstür kleben herkommen, sind auch schon älter und sollten entfernt werden.

Kurzfristig haben wir einen Termin vereinbart, sehr schnelle Antwort. Sehr nettes Personal!!! Sehr gutes Essen, was wir nicht geschafft haben zu essen. Wir kommen wieder.

Morgenmaden var ok, men kaffen var lunken. Fik den byttet, og det var en smule bedre. Der var personale nok tilstede, men de virkede totalt stressede og løb rundt når der skulle ryddes af / dækkes op igen. Fik en sur bemærkning ved betaling af opholdet ( + 300,-€ for to nætter ) - jeg havde glemt at bede om visa-kvitteringen i forvejen. Det er generelt ærgerligt at ledelsen har skruet arbejdsgangene så dårligt sammen, at personalet ikke har tid til at være venlige og imødekommende. Vi følte os ikke velkomne, og finder et andet Hotel næste gang vi skal til Werningerode.

Hyggeligt lokale med god stemning. De har et tog, der kører under loftet, og ved vinduet kan et tog komme med drikkevarer. Dog er der dårlig akkustik, og der manglede sovs til risene og dip til pomme fritterne.
