The aspic for a little snack tasted great. 😍

First of all, it's a cute concept—that much to say. Everything else, however... We still had a nice evening, but not because of the restaurant. The train thing was really cute. The food is overpriced, and at €22, which is almost average for what you'd get, for example, a very small steak with a baked potato, it's super overpriced... The baked feta, or rather just feta in a pan, was served with, believe it or not, the three smallest slices of bread. I've never seen anything like it before, and it really wasn't something you'd eat again. So, for the prices, the service is abysmal. The staff... well, okay. They skipped my drink order, left, and just brought me a drink? After correcting it, they only gave me the correct drink—and the other drink, for which I also had to pay. And since there was no fish when we were there and I only asked for the pasta, with a price adjustment of course – because pasta with sauce for €22 is really excessive for me – I was given a really cheeky look and told the brazenly, "Yes, €3... €19 for pasta and sauce." 👀 I found that really cheeky, instead of saying that it wasn't possible or that they would ask? - So hospitable... I've never experienced that before.

We (2 adults, 2 children) were there for lunch. My girlfriend and I each had the Heuwender (Paul Schnitzel). First of all, I'm a trained butcher (20 years in the business). THE BEST SCHNITZEL I'VE EVER EATED!!!🤤 Service was so-so... First, the order-taking machine didn't work. Later, I got my schnitzel but no cutlery. And I had to wait so long for the cutlery that I'd already eaten all the fries by then 😔 Which, by the way, were also delicious—nice and crispy and very well seasoned. The kids had no complaints. My daughter didn't like the pasta with cheese sauce. But that's a matter of taste. Best wishes from Usedom 😎

Comfortably furnished restaurant. The train that brings drinks to the tables by the window is an absolute highlight. (Reservations by the window make sense.) The restaurant is child-friendly, and the staff are nice and friendly. My order wasn't taken correctly, but this was immediately corrected in a customer-friendly manner. The food tasted absolutely average. My jalapeno burger was a "cocktail burger with a few stray jalapenos on the last bite." The pasta with cream and cheese sauce was not tasty. The "lava cake" consisted of two small cakes, the center was solid. Even if the food didn't attract us back, maybe you will! Finally, I would like to emphasize the ambiance and the friendly service. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit, especially with children 😊👌

Top-notch restaurant. We stopped in shortly after the kitchen closed and still got something to eat. The food was good, the service was friendly, and the model train that delivers the drinks was super cool. We were completely satisfied.

If you don't want to leave the hotel, the ambiance and the food are fine. I had a one-pot meal, but I didn't understand why they added a handful of lettuce on top.

First, we waited over 20 minutes for the waiter to even arrive at the table so we could place our order. The drinks arrived on a moving train – which was great, and the little ones were delighted. However, the children's cocktail, "Blue Smurf," was neither blue nor even remotely colored. It was supposed to be made with banana juice and Blu Curaco. There was a hint of blue in it – so minimal that, despite stirring, no color difference was noticeable – sad, because kids are fascinated by the color gradients of cocktails. So, minus point number 2. It wasn't overly busy. Once we ordered, things went relatively quickly. The baked potato with herb curd cheese we ordered was the size of a regular jacket potato and tasted just like it had been warmed up. It was wrapped in so much aluminum foil, and the herb curd cheese, which was anything but herb curd cheese, was spread all over the foil. When we opened the foil to get to the potatoes, all the curd cheese fell out and stuck to the foil. I'm definitely not a big eater - but I've NEVER not been full after a baked potato. The price is completely out of proportion. My little one had Pommes Schranke (fries with ketchup and mayo). Mayo and ketchup were missing. We wanted to report it, but no one showed up the whole time. There was no response to our hand signals. MINUS MINUS. My husband had the standard Wiener Schnitzel with fries - not bad, but not good either. The price was normal for that. We would have liked to order more drinks - no chance - no one came??? Not in the mood??? Other guests felt the same way. After we had already announced that we wanted to pay - it still wasn't full - they said "I'm coming." After 10 minutes of tireless waiting, my husband and son got up and headed towards the exit. So I sat there alone and waited and waited, joking with the other guests. After another 5 minutes, I again emphatically informed the irritated waitresses who were milling around that I wanted to pay. What we experienced was unbelievable. The ambiance and concept were top-notch – but the execution and service were very poor – a shame.

A lovely restaurant with a great railway feel. The food was good, although the schnitzel lacked fries, but it was still tasty and fresh. Drinks usually arrive by train (unfortunately, they didn't for me). You can tell the owner is a railway enthusiast, as you can see many relics of the railway and even glimpse the HSB (narrow-gauge railway).

The atmosphere is great, especially for train lovers and children. The drinks are delivered by a model train, which is very cool. The food selection is good. As for the food itself, the burger patty was way too thick and lacked flavor. The cocktail was also very strong and not that great. The pulled pork burger, on the other hand, was good. The train-delivered drinks alone made it worth a visit. It's a bit more expensive, though.

We were all disappointed. The black plates were very greasy and the food was plentiful. We expected more for the price.

I especially recommend the beef liver "Berlin style." The atmosphere is also charming. Highly recommended for railway enthusiasts. There's a great view of the Harz narrow-gauge railway, and what's especially nice is that the drinks are delivered by a model train.

Please note: the menu published online does not match the one in the restaurant. Some dishes are missing entirely, and others are served with fries instead of fried potatoes. I also have to advise against the rather watery solyanka. I would definitely not eat here again.

There was something good on offer for all tastes.

The food is delicious and the service is first-class. We were a group of 10 people, and everyone was satisfied. The location, however, isn't so great, as it's right next to a main road and therefore very noisy.

The food took too long for a large group and wasn't that good either. Added to that, there are poor vegan and vegetarian options and the service isn't responsive to requests. The only thing that's good for train lovers is the ambiance. I would advise everyone else against this.

Beautiful themed restaurant with a view of the Harz narrow-gauge railway. The highlight, of course, is that drinks are delivered by miniature train. However, this only applies if you have the right seat. It would be great if this were indicated when making a reservation. The major drawback is the lack of air conditioning in the winter garden. It's unbearable there on a sunny, hot day, so you hardly have any appetite. Otherwise, delicious food and friendly service. We would come back!

Hunter-style pork chop with mushroom sauce is very good, the portion is big, you can eat a lot 😀

A super nice restaurant. I think it's SO cool that a model train delivers your drinks to the outer tables. It really awakens the 5-year-old in me. The service was fast and super friendly. The food was a large, delicious portion. I definitely recommend it to train enthusiasts. As a bonus, you can see the Brocken Railway chugging by every now and then.

Funnily enough, drinks are brought by train. The food was simply fantastic. We had schnitzel and liver, simply amazing.

Unfortunately, I found the evening at Restaurant 1835 rather disappointing. We were there in a large group, so I completely understand if it took a little longer. But waiting 1.5 hours for the food was tough. Especially when requests for dishes and drinks were forgotten. Many of the dishes were manageable in terms of quantity, and some of us didn't get full. The quality of the food was okay for most, but nothing special. What I found very disappointing was the response to my question about a vegan option. Google searches show that the restaurant offers both vegetarian and vegan options. However, under the "Vegetarian and Pasta" tab on the main course menu, only one vegetarian dish is listed; the rest are prepared with fish. It's perfectly fine if a restaurant can't or doesn't want to offer that, but I found the response to a really nicely asked question about whether there was anything vegan to be quite unfriendly. At first, they fobbed us off with a "Then look at the menu." The waiter also didn't seem to know the difference between vegetarian and vegan. When we responded that we couldn't find anything on the menu and asked if we could ask the kitchen, the waiter simply replied that I would probably starve with my diet and what would happen if Putin invaded. I've heard a lot of things, but this one left me speechless. Some other reviews mention the waiter's special sense of humor and that he only meant well. But I found this remark really off-putting. The end result was that they didn't ask the kitchen, and I opted for fries with ketchup, since the rest of the family wanted to eat there. Otherwise, I probably would have left at that point.

What is particularly funny is the delivery of drinks and additional snacks.

We'd like to extend our warmest thanks to the restaurant team. We received a very friendly welcome and felt very comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious and prepared with lots of love. We highly recommend it to anyone who visits!

!! Be careful, the restaurant is trying to get bad reviews deleted!! We spontaneously booked a table there today because we liked the photos/reviews. Overall, it was "okay." The food wasn't exactly great (more precisely: greasy, burnt, cold, or the wrong thing). Service seemed overwhelmed with the restaurant at 40% capacity, as not only were we "overlooked" when we were still thirsty, but two other tables also had to follow up with drink orders, payment, and food orders. We were full at the end of the evening, but we wouldn't go back. It's fine for a one-time visit.

A very nice, well-kept restaurant with incredibly delicious food. The only drawback is the train that runs along the ceiling, which makes a very audible squeak.

The restaurant is lovingly decorated in a railway theme. The staff is quick and friendly. I would have given the food 6 stars, too. The "Paul" schnitzel was amazing, as was the barbecue burger. You should definitely try it.

I visited the restaurant with my wife on June 1st for my wife's birthday. The atmosphere was fantastic! The service was extravagant. But I paid for a burger that was absolutely terrible. Why do they offer breakfast bread with a burger?

Nice restaurant with very specific atmosphere, but.... We were visiting this restaurant with 2 friends the last day of March this year. There was nearly no one in the restaurant so the young lady brought the menus very quick. We were searching in the menus for delicious food when the cook came with a "special offering" showing us fresh and very good looking burger buns. I need to say, no one was originally interested to order a hamburger, but the guy was showing really nice arguments so we ordered "special house-made hamburger" with french fries. Couple of minutes later, the waiter came and explained something about problems with a bill, I need to say, I was shooting pictures of the cute railways around so I have not heard the conversation between him and my friends. Couple of minutes later, the three hamburgers arrived on our table. They were really not bad I need to say but far away from being extraordinary. After the meal, the waiter came to tell us that they are closing the restaurant so there is no way to order anything else and we were asked to pay and to go. He came, saying that every one of us should pay 33,10€ for the burger and one dark beer. Me and my friends were in the middle of a conversation so we didn't really paid attention and even more, every one added some "trinkgeld"/tip. After we have left the restaurant we have found out that this was a fail. The most expensive hamburger in the menu was priced with € 18,90, but every one of us has paid 35,-€ so that was the most expensive hamburger in my life. We have not received any bill so it was impossible to complain next day about the price. Need to say, that was quite a disappointment for all of us. A pity. I hope the waiter had a nice evening. EDIT: after some weeks of communication, the restaurant has sent a nice financial compensation. Thank you.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent and plentiful food. Drinks are delivered by train, which is very cool, and a train even runs above the guests. The dining room is ideal for train enthusiasts. Prepare to be surprised and feel at home in beautiful Wernigerode.

There were nine of us there. Since the restaurant was otherwise empty, we were very disappointed with the service. Drinks were forgotten, and food was brought differently than ordered. The food itself was tasteless. The ketchup tasted as if it had expired, all the dishes lacked flavor, and they were lukewarm to cold. The ambiance is nice. You'll never see us there again.

Thanks to the team at 1835. We were the only guests at lunch today, received their full attention, and were very satisfied. Absolutely delicious food, super-friendly service, and a pleasant atmosphere. You fully deserve the five stars. Special thanks to the chef 😃!

I was at the Restaurant with my son for lunch after an exhausting trip from the UK. Amazing drinks delivery with a small train! The service was amazing and a person from a foreign land spoke amazing english and was very very helpful. Very much recommended for all foreign tourists who only speak English! Thank you!

The service staff was very friendly. The food was very tasty 😋 everything was very tender. Portion was okay. The mashed potatoes were a bit small. But also beautifully prepared. Here too, praise to the cook and assistants. 👨‍🍳 The only thing that wasn't okay for us was the price. Because we noticed that it was always 4 euros cheaper in the city center. Too bad. But you don't always have to eat on site. Nevertheless, we had a nice vacation with you.

The menu in the restaurant did not match the online menu. There is only one dish on the menu for vegetarians and vegans. Plates had already been cleared away even though someone was still eating at the table. Ordered RIP-Eye, but got simple beef from the steaker, no question was asked about the doneness of the steak when ordering.

Quite nice, but more appearance than reality. Two out of three requested dishes were out, and that on a Saturday evening. The portions are very manageable... No surprises in terms of taste, vegetables drowned in oil. Too bad.

Everything, as always, was great... except that the service could have perhaps informed us straight away that there were no burgers that evening... it was our son very sad ! He had specially chosen one! Otherwise we can't understand the sometimes bad reviews...it's always great.... Of course we would love to come back!

This is now a hotel with a restaurant “Altora”

This was our third time there and we were very disappointed this time. The service and the ambience are great, the food wasn't that good this time. The taste was fine, but everything was lukewarm and out of 7 side dishes, 5 were not right. We waited 1 1/2 hours for the food, but the hard part was that the 3 year old was the last to get her food after almost 2 hours. This is an absolute no-go. Unfortunately we have lost the desire to go again.

A prime example of the shortage of skilled workers in Germany. Just let as many guests into your restaurant as you can manage. Every walk-in gets placed and things get chaotic. Too bad.

This is a very nice restaurant for (steam) train enthusiasts or LGB fans (or both). In the Netherlands I know Corazon in Amersfoort and Pim's poffertjes and pancakes restaurant in Dordrecht where LGB trains also run at the top, but this restaurant is much more special. Firstly because it is located next to the HSB steam yard and secondly because drinks are delivered by LGB train. Our kids absolutely loved it! Food itself not special, but okay. Service was attentive and nice.

We stayed for 2 nights in the hotel with one meal in the restaurant. Food was good, not superb but certainly tasty. Schnitzels crispy, potatoes well seasoned. The soljanka soup was especially delicious. Service friendly and helpful for us with our imperfect german! Highlight was the model train bringing our drinks. If you like trains, it's worth coming here!

We came because of the good reviews and of course because of the train that runs through the restaurant. We made reservations for the evening and there was exactly one waiter present. Unfortunately he wasn't particularly friendly either, rather grumpy... he was probably longing for the end of the day. Overall there was a strange atmosphere in the place. Hardly anyone spoke at the few occupied tables. There was no background music either and it was just a strange atmosphere. The moving drinks train is of course great. The food didn't convince us. It was quite loveless. The schnitzels were ok but not outstanding. Unfortunately the fried potatoes were cold. The small baked potato with small steak was a hefty price for a dry piece of beef with more fat than meat. The side salad had brown leaves and a mushy slice of tomato, but would be better without lettuce. The fried liver with mashed potatoes was quite bland, unfortunately no sauce either, just some drippings. The Pepsi also tasted stale, there was just not much carbon dioxide in it. How can something like that be? Conclusion: If you charge high prices for your food, you should also offer quality.

The chicken was fried too long, the schnitzel was very tasty - some good and some not so good. The service was also okay, but nothing outstanding. A solid & simple restaurant.

For years, the Altora restaurant has been a must when visiting the steam train in Wernigerode. But every time the quality drops. The garden train still runs in the restaurant, but the ambience is impersonal, the service lacks charm, the decoration has given way to black walls and the food has become terrible. Small schnitzels, half-raw fried potatoes, sour dressing, salty feta. Rooms on weekends only for three nights or more. Pretty cool. Has been removed from the program.

Pleasant atmosphere with original service, the drinks are delivered by train. Unfortunately, the human service was all alone, so it was a small challenge, but it was solved quite well. The food was solid, very generous portions. It was fun .

The restaurant is really cute! Access is via the Hotel Altora. The drinks are transported to the table on a small train and you have a great view of the supply station of the small steam train. You can watch coal being poured into the tender while you enjoy your meal. You can also be satisfied with the food overall.

Very cool interesting theme restaurant "1835" Eisenbahn Hotel in Wernigerode my favorite region the (Upper) Harz. Delicious high-quality food, the ambience is absolutely great, especially for railway fans, in my opinion it can even be improved, good friendly service and the price is okay for the quality. I can absolutely recommend it. 👍👌👍
