We went to the Ratskeller Bernau today with our son to celebrate our 20th anniversary, on the recommendation of friends. It's beautifully restored. We received a super friendly welcome and attentive service. And above all, we had three incredibly delicious, very generous, and fresh meals. We were thrilled and will definitely be back. Many thanks to the staff and kitchen!

Hello everyone, On November 1st, 2025, we dined at the Ratskeller for the first time with about five adults and two children, and we were thrilled. We received a very warm welcome and felt very comfortable in the truly beautiful and cozy atmosphere. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, we didn't have to wait long for our food, and the food itself was fantastic. The prices seem a bit high at first glance, but considering the quality, they are perfectly reasonable. In conclusion, We were very satisfied and can absolutely recommend the Ratskeller.

It was a truly wonderful restaurant experience. We received a warm welcome and excellent service, and felt completely at ease. We would gladly return, anytime and for any occasion.

We sat outside at the Ratskeller Bernau in perfect late summer weather. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff was quick and courteous. We ordered drinks and onion cake. The onion cake was very good, and the slices were quite large. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

The Ratskeller is still a long way from top-class gastronomy; the duck arrived lukewarm, and that wasn't the first time. Furthermore, all seasoning was missing. My schnitzel was so flattened that all you could taste was breadcrumbs, and it, too, lacked any seasoning. The service is commendable.

One of the best restaurants in Bernau! Those who value good food, regional produce, a pleasant atmosphere, and attentive service will be more than satisfied here.

Beautiful town cellar, spread across several rooms. Good food selection. I had half a duck, dumplings, and red cabbage. Absolutely delicious. The Bernauer beer goes perfectly with it, and I had an affogato for dessert. 😊

In the beautifully restored Bernau, a top-class restaurant in a historic cellar vault. The culinary offerings are truly worthy and sumptuous. The service could benefit from colorful attire and a smile on their faces, but otherwise, they're fine. We'll definitely go back there again.

We ate at the Ratskeller today. A very nice ambiance and modern decor. The drinks and food arrived quickly, without long waits. Excellent. For starters, we had salad with caramelized goat cheese, incredibly delicious. And for the main course, we opted for the classic "Steak ou Four." A generous portion and very juicy. Kudos to the chefs. Unfortunately, our stomachs didn't have enough room for dessert. It was really great. We'll be back again from time to time. Thanks again for the tip to eat here. Looking for sophisticated food and drinks while chatting in a relaxed atmosphere? Then this is the place for you! The service is unfussy, even when it gets busy, and informative and friendly. In short: I highly recommend it for a meeting with friends.

We already had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious lunch on Easter Sunday. The asparagus was so superbly prepared, and the schnitzel was enormous. Everyone in the family really enjoyed their chosen meal. The service was quick and attentive. They had some great comments. We promised to come back. We returned at the end of July, from Magdeburg and Eisenhüttenstadt. Every lunch we chose was excellently prepared. It was a pure delight for the palate. We had a great time again. The ambiance is, of course, a feast for the eyes. Our thanks go to the chef and the entire service team. We will be back; for us, it's the best place to enjoy an excellent lunch.

Lunch for €10 per dish is simply unbeatable. We had the lunch special once and the beef roulade once. The main courses from the menu were a bit more expensive, but definitely good value for money. Both were incredibly delicious. Beautiful location, great service. We'll be back!

Highly recommended. Great ambiance, delicious food, and professional service. We felt very comfortable here. The outdoor area and the cellar vault are truly beautiful. The menu isn't overly extensive, but it's truly comprehensive, with game, meat, fish, vegetarian options, and burgers, all good and very tasty because they're freshly prepared. A very good selection of drinks, and the guys and young woman serving are always friendly, funny, and very attentive to their guests. Simply truly friendly and professional service. We've also been here in late autumn and really enjoyed our stay. Thank you very much!

On June 21st, we were guests at the Ratskeller Bernau with a small family group. Access is barrier-free via elevator or stairs. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We were impressed by the lovingly furnished, historically inspired ambiance, which perfectly matches the cultural identity of Bernau. The main course and dessert were of a very high standard, the temperature of the dishes, and the presentation on plates or serving pans – everything was perfect! Highly recommended! We were there in the evening and sat outside, enjoying the evening sun. Inside, you can sit in the rustic, beautiful cellar vaults of the old town hall. Fast and friendly service, and the food was excellent. We can recommend the Ratskeller to anyone.

Top Service, top essen, top location

Today we chose the Ratskeller because the outdoor area is very sunny and beautifully decorated with lots of flowers. We ordered drinks, as well as spicy meat and onion roast with fried potatoes. After a little over 30 minutes the food arrived. However, the cutlery was only brought later when asked. My husband missed the Worcestershire sauce with the seasoned meat. There was no response to repeated waves. The fried potatoes were soft and didn't deserve the name. A very large clump of barely fried bacon bits under the potatoes. The meat is sometimes tough. The cucumbers in the salad are cut very roughly. Finally, you are presented with the mobile card reader. You will only receive a printed invoice upon request. Unfortunately we didn't have the young, very attentive waiter. No recommendation from us.

Until now I've only ever sat outside

Today we were in the Bernau city park and took the opportunity to test the Ratskeller branch. Well, self-service for the garden, because there are no other places. But the weather was good! The small selection of dishes was OK. The tarte flambée was very good but the American sandwich was mega good. The staff was new to this situation and then so busy. But they fought bravely and were super nice! This presentation of the Ratskeller will allow us to take a look at the main operation soon! Great and thank you

The Ratskeller has a very nice atmosphere where you feel comfortable, sit well and the service was also very good. The food was okay, there could have been a little more sauce on the asparagus and the size of the schnitzel could have been more generous.

The service was very nice, but unfortunately brought the wrong food (at least that was stated in the billing). Unfortunately, starters were much better than the main course, but also rather expensive. Nice ambience, strange background music.

I can definitely recommend the Ratskeller! Just today celebrated mom and grandma's birthday again in a larger group, with delicious food and perfect and entertaining service. Always worth a visit and thank you very much for these wonderful hours.

One star is already too many, but I had to put some so that this review could go online! All food was cold to lukewarm and two with the wrong side dish. When asked about it, the waitress informed us that the side dish was not available. The menu says something different. A meal that makes meat tough! Long waiting time until you are even served. Reordering such as drinks is almost impossible. Staff overwhelmed. After the not completely empty plates were cleared away and people expressed their displeasure, they apologized to us on the grounds that a cook was unavailable. I understand a lot, but this could have been communicated beforehand and with prices of €20-€25 per meal, I expect quality and service! Personnel problems cannot and should not be placed on the backs of the guests. Other tables also complained for the same reasons. The house was full. ....you should do the planning Rethink Conclusion: I was really looking forward to this evening, which was a disappointment for me. The menu is very appealing, but I won't eat there again because my expectations were by no means met.

It's actually really nice here. The location of the old vaulted cellar is very attractive and the staff is also very nice. However, when it comes to food, you have to be lucky with the selection and perhaps with the cook. I've eaten really well there, but I've also had big disappointments. I recently had the Wiener-style schnitzel. But to be honest, that could almost have passed for a vegetarian dish. The schnitzel was pounded so thin that the whole thing consisted almost entirely of breading. You can also make money by saving on “materials”. And the price of €21 is already very high. The beef roulade here is extremely tasty, but even as a petite woman I can't get enough of the portion. But I also had a very tasty venison goulash with bread dumplings here at Christmas time and the portion was also decent. But two weeks later I ate the same thing again and the bread dumplings tasted completely different and the portion was also significantly smaller. Unfortunately, this restaurant is a real gamble. You might be better off in a cart or in the courtyard.

The food was okay and the ambience was very nice. Unfortunately, the experiences in road traffic with the company car are significantly worse. The van drivers from the Ratskeller apparently have little inhibition about honking at people of old age when they get in (even though there was enough space to drive past). Mind you, boarding took less than 30 seconds. When driving a company car, you should perhaps take into account that past and future customers are the other road users, especially in a smaller city. I won't go there again despite the nice atmosphere...

We had our Christmas party there and I am very disappointed. First of all, having a company Christmas party between the normal guests is already bad given the limited space. Other guests were visibly annoyed, which is understandable. Then, not even prepared, everything moved back. The starter of chestnut soup was delicious. But then eating the buffet took forever, plus the fries were over-salted and the potatoes were very bland. The buffet platter with 4 schnitzels where 8 people sit, well. When asked, some more came, but some of them were completely covered in pepper and the rest on the plate were far too little and you should learn how to season them again. Drinks order of 2 Spezi and 1 light beer the 12 minutes custom the 1 Spezi arrives when asked where the rest is, 1 Spezi comes again after 4 minutes and after another 3 minutes this is finally here 👍🏻. The crème brulee was OK. And the Oberkeller didn’t really respond to criticism. Unfortunately not recommended. The only thing great there is the ambience.

I'm not sure whether I should rate the current experience, but in the end I decided to do so. Was there with family (5 people) for Christmas dinner. Order: 2x duck, 2x deer goulash, 1x burger (Invincible = 2x meat paddies). The goulash was ok, the burger turned out to be not quite as invincible as the menu promised, and the duck was unfortunately a bit of a disaster. Although it was completely cooked through, it froze after frying and was very inadequately reheated. Parts were still really cold, but no longer frozen. We didn't complain about the defect, we just noticed it when clearing away. However, the restaurant's reaction was double positive: although eaten, both dishes were not charged and a free tiramisu was provided as additional compensation.

I was there today with my girlfriend for our Christmas dinner. So from the food, ambience, service and staff, everything was great, everything was first class. We'll definitely come back.

A really nice ambience, we had booked a 10-seater table, which was in the back end and exuded a really cozy atmosphere thanks to the natural stones of the ceiling and walls and the massive natural wood table. The staff is really great and even took the time to joke and always looked after us. Really great and please keep it up.... 👍

Get real Viennese veal schnitzel. Only the oval deep plate was a bit unsuitable for the dish. Better suited to fish or casseroles...

Food tastes great, service is perfect, ambience on the market square is very cool. Only the portions are made for gluttons, so I deduct one point when it comes to eating.

Onion roast in a thick sauce, the slightly thicker parts are not cooked through. I wouldn't order again. Cheeseburger a bit bland, coleslaw with preservatives. Overall overpriced. The rest was fine.

We were there yesterday, the food was delicious but the service was very mixed, my partner's order had to be asked several times because the waiter kept forgetting what he had ordered. When we made the reservation we mentioned that it was a birthday dinner and there was no small attention or congratulations - I know that from restaurants.

There is nothing wrong with the food at all. Really incredibly delicious. The beer tastes great and the waiting times were completely fine and there were 4 of us. With 2 small children, every second counts. Thanks to the pleasant location right on the market square, the children could also be kept busy. An incorrectly delivered dessert was replaced with the correct one without any eye rolls etc. We only wished that the desserts came together, so it's best to ask when ordering how you would like it. Absolute recommendation for this restaurant.

A very successful atmosphere. The meispoulade was delicious. That makes you look forward to more.

Food was a bit disappointing. Onion roast roast was rather bland in terms of taste. The fried potatoes only saw the pan for a few seconds and apart from two pieces, they weren't crispy. Classic roast is with roast beef/beef and not pork. And if I use pork then it has to be done. Price/performance doesn't fit when it comes to food. It's a shame, but maybe I'll try a different dish next time.
