Ratskeller in Wernigerode

Even though the Ratskeller itself is closed for renovations, they've set up outdoor seating with a food and drink stand. The menu is therefore manageable, but very worth eating. We opted for the venison burger, which was incredibly delicious. Service is limited. You have to self-service at the drinks stand to express your preference and pay directly with your table number. We sat down to look at the selection and were served anyway, only having to get up to pay. It was very confusing at first, but of course, it was pleasant to be served. It wasn't that busy, although the food was really great. The atmosphere had a strong snack bar feel rather than a "nice place to eat" feel.

We stopped here for a quick bite to eat at lunch. The menu offers something for everyone, whether it's just an appetizer, a main course, or dessert. The prices are reasonable. The service was friendly and quick.

I visited the Ratskeller a while ago. The weather was great and there weren't many customers, so I sat outside in the beer garden and waited. After a while, one of the three ladies came over and brought me the menu. I couldn't express my preference for a drink; well, that's a shame, but that's how it is these days. So I chose a dish and waited. As I mentioned, there weren't many customers; but the three ladies were standing together and had a lot to talk about. But after what felt like an eternity, one of the ladies started walking toward me, but then walked past and down into the cellar. A short time later, the other two ladies (in pairs) approached me, walked past me, and also down into the cellar. In any case, I left after half an hour and went to another restaurant. By the way: when I walked past again on the way back, the three (Asian) ladies were no longer there, and a man was serving (I mean that explicitly without judgment!!!).

A very nice, rustic restaurant with good, home-style cooking. The staff is very friendly and cheerful. The restrooms are clean and the entire restaurant is well-maintained! We're always happy to come back...

Although we've been traveling to Wernigerode regularly for many years, today we visited the Ratskeller for the first time. We were more than pleasantly surprised; the service, ambiance, and food were top-notch. We'll be back in September!

Unfortunately we expected more… The fried potatoes were too salty, the burger buns were dry and I don't think I've ever had a worse citizen... Sweet potato fries were raw and the salad dressing seasoned with pepper. The soups were good. The service was only provided by the trainees, which was unfortunately noticeable. No questions asked during the meal whether everything is good. The plates cannot be inserted correctly (the test is coming...) Guest group children were not taken into account…

Sehr freundliches Personal, obwohl es sehr voll war (Regen). Schnelle Bedienung - sehr gute Qualität der Speißen. Kommen gern wieder.

We were warmly welcomed with our children. The food was excellent and the service was very accommodating. We'd love to come back.

We arrived at this inn quite exhausted after a long hike and waited in the entrance area for a waitress. When she came, we asked for a free table, she said she didn't know if there were any free tables. When a table became available near us shortly afterwards, we sat down because we were already pretty tired. Just a second later we were startled by a shrill voice that ordered us to get up immediately because we weren't allowed to sit down if the table wasn't freshly set. Frightened, we jumped up again and left the inn immediately, as we could already imagine how disgruntled the food and drinks would be slammed onto our table later. Good advice to the owner of the restaurant: employee training for the waitresses, especially those with the tattooed arms who reprimanded us so unkindly.

Es war leider nicht wie erwartet. Es konnten nicht alle angepriesenen Speisen serviert werden, zudem wurde 1,5 Stunden vor dem Schließen des Restaurants schon die Tische für den nächsten Tag vorbereitet, mit einer Lautstärke die ein gemütliches Abendessen nicht möglich machte. Die Portionen waren zudem sehr klein, sodass man bei weitem nicht satt wurde. Dementsprechend schlechte Preis Leistung und nicht zu empfehlen..

Very tasty food, not a crowded menu. There were 16 of us and it worked really well. Everything happened quickly and was finished at the same time. The waiter was very attentive and we didn't lack for anything!

I had a schnitzel with cream champions and fries for €23.90. It was a convenience schnitzel (Ready-made schnitzel) fried in the pan, mushrooms definitely not fresh but pickled from a can or jar. My wife had Kässpätzle which was probably made with Gouda instead of Emmental or mountain cheese. My son ate a hamburger whose patty also looked like convenience food and was very dry. As a trained chef with many years of professional experience, I can allow myself to make an objective assessment. It was an absolute disappointment for us and we feel ripped off. The only downside: The predominantly Asian service is very friendly and always tries hard.

Ich hatte ein Schnitzel mit Rahmchampions und Pommes für 23,90€. Es war ein Convenience Schnitzel (Fertigschnitzel) in der Pfanne gebraten, Champignons definitiv nicht frisch sondern eingelegt aus der Dose oder dem Glas. Meine Frau hatte Kässpätzle die mit Gouda anstatt Emmentaler oder Bergkäse zubereitet wurden. Mein Sohn aß einen Hamburger dessen Patty ebenfalls nach Convenience aussah und sehr trocken war. Als gelernter Koch mit langjähriger Berufserfahrung kann ich mir ein objektives Urteil erlauben. Es war für uns eine absolute Enttäuschung wir fühlen uns abgezockt. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Der überwiegend asiatische Service ist sehr freundlich und stets bemüht.

Im Gegensatz zum Vorbesitzer des Ratskeller Wernigerode ist die Speisekarte gewaltig ausgedünnt, es ist eine spartane Karte und sehr übersichtlich - die Preise, naja wie überall. 0,5l Hasseröder Bier für 6,00€ ist schon ein stolzer Preis. Mein Essen, eine Schweinshaxe mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelkloß war okay, aber die Schnitzel waren aus der Fritteuse und die Champions aus der Dose - die Schnitzel lagen nicht auf dem Teller, sondern auf den Pommes Frittes - tut mir Leid, kenne ich so gar nicht. Naja, da muss man sich dran gewöhnen - die gute alte Zeit kommt halt nicht wieder. Ansonsten ist das Ambiente ganz gut.

Quaint cellar restaurant. Here you get what the name promises. The food was very good. The steak with pepper sauce was on point and the pepper sauce had a lot of heat. Service was a bit slow, but the store was very busy and the waiter was alone. It's not exactly cheap.

Super nice atmosphere in the vaulted cellar. We were warmly welcomed and our 5-year-old son was given a children's menu and something to paint (without asking). The food was really tasty and filling. We didn't have to wait long either. For what is offered, the price is absolutely fine in the location. If you want to eat cheaply, you will be disappointed here. If you want to eat well, you'll get your money's worth. Clear recommendation!

Very negative experience, cheap and industrial food, everything comes out of a package on the counter, I don't recommend it, I wouldn't want to go... 🙅 I asked for butter for the soup and they didn't have any, what does that mean?

We arrived here at 8 p.m. very tired and hungry with a four-year-old child. We got food on the table at 9:15 p.m.! We were simply "forgotten" or "ignored"? All the other tables, including the people who came after us, had already eaten and left! The waitress definitely saw us and still left! The food was delicious but never, I emphasize, I'll never come here again.

We had reserved a table for 8 p.m. for a group of 18 people. Since the table had been allocated beforehand, we couldn't get to our place until 8 p.m. It was very crowded and the volume was so high that it was impossible to have a conversation. One person had to keep moving his chair so that the waiter could get down the aisle. That was a bit too narrow. We got our food shortly after 9 p.m., which took quite a long time. It was also a shame that the mushroom sauces for the schnitzels were only served 10 minutes later than the schnitzels themselves. The food tasted good, but I've eaten much better elsewhere for the prices. The Christmas dishes are mkt leg of goose at €28 and duck at €30. So it ended up being “just” the Wiener Schnitzel with mushroom sauce for around €24. The entrance leads down via two levels of stairs. Difficult for strollers and wheelchair users, but it is a beautiful vaulted cellar as the name suggests. It's nice that there are enough high chairs and a changing table.

Unfortunately only frozen goods. The schnitzel with the wild mushroom cream sauce was subterranean. The service staff and the ambience were very good. Location great.

We expected a little more for a Ratskeller. We were there for dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the room was empty. The reception was friendly and painting supplies for our child were brought straight away. When it started to fill up at 6 p.m., service stopped. Of course, the house itself has to decide on the staffing ratio, but there was a queue all the way outside, people wanted to order at the same time and with 2 waiters/persons to assign. The food was ok. However, we imagined the food to be of better quality. Wok vegetables with wedges - frozen wedges, unfortunately over-salted vegetables, uncreatively cooked and served. The salmon was good, but the pasta with it was also simple. I wouldn't go to a restaurant and pay €15 & €20 for that. The vault gives a great ambience. We hope the quality is otherwise better and the chef simply had a bad day.

When fast food reaches a new level: The food came so quickly that we thought it had already been heated before we ordered. Guess: The microwave is the real chef here. The staff is international and very friendly. But the food is more like a trip around the world through the freezer. So if you value culinary surprises, you should visit the nearest Ratskeller. If you're hungry and don't have time, welcome!

The good reviews motivated us to stop at this location in Wernigerode. Before we could sit down, we waited about 15 minutes until we were shown to the table. It took another 10-15 minutes for the order to be placed. Totally fine. The food surprisingly came immediately after 5 minutes, which seemed very strange to us. The service was overall solid, but not particularly good. The question was asked whether everything was OK with the meal, but comments were also skillfully ignored. The most important thing is of course the food and it wasn't really good. It was fine and certainly edible, although the obvious components were not homemade. My spaetzle were classic supermarket run-of-the-mill spaetzle that you would expect in a snack bar, but not in a restaurant like this at such prices. The venison ragout was relatively tender and quite good, but overall it was a little bland. All in all, I would choose a different restaurant the next time I visit Wernigerode.

The restaurant is located under the very beautiful old town hall of Wernigerode. The guest room is rustic. Some of the furniture was already a bit worn, particularly noticeable in the white faux leather chairs, where some were already very damaged. The service was very quick and attentive, cards were quickly provided and orders were taken. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as we expected... The sauerkraut for the grilled knuckle or the red cabbage were very weak, the side salads were heavily reduced with 2 quarters of a small cucumber, a quarter of a tomato and just a tiny bit of dressing, the schnitzel with fries mediocre (meat most likely not breaded), the salmon fillet with tagliatelle was almost unseasoned, but the venison ragout was too bad heavily salted and (even if that's only partially bad) too much ragout on too little spaetzle, it was too unbalanced. The drink prices were also heavily salted, at €7.80 for a 0.75l bottle of water, €6 for one Beer and €4 for a small 0.3l apple spritzer with more water than juice. Sure, gastro gets a lot out of drinks, but at some point it's too much. All in all, unfortunately too expensive for the service received, and even if it had been cheaper, the quality would not be sufficient. For us it was the first and last visit.

Grünkohl mit Kartoffeln und Bregenwurst…. ein regionales Gericht, das ich sehr gerne esse. Hier schwamm ein wenig Grünkohlrest in einem Fettsee; von Geschmack kein Spur. Offenbar war es der Bodensatz aus dem Topf. Ich habe noch niemals so schlechten Grünkohl bekommen wie hier. Nach zwei kleinen Bissen ließ ich ihn stehen.

Service & ambience good, but food: goose leg with red cabbage was ok. Red cabbage is still the best. Roast venison, two dried-out, dismal slices, pasta with indefinable tomato sauce and the kale was a green sauce with no taste - bad, really. It's a shame, we were hungry and in good spirits but that was nothing.

We ended up here by chance and our expectations weren't particularly high. We were greeted very friendly and shown to our table. Classic home cooking of very good quality. Great pork knuckle and roast venison. Everything was served very quickly. The only problem was that the service often stopped working after the main course. Nobody asked about desserts (which we wanted to order). When we finally asked for the menu for dessert, it was brought straight away. Unfortunately, the last step of coming to our table and asking about our selection is missing. Too bad. But this can be easily remedied with a little training. Potential is there.

Der Ratskeller liegt zentral und die Speisekarte kam mit Regionalen Speisen auf der Speisekarte daher-dies war für uns ausreichend um hier sich zu platzieren…Location ist nett…das Essen jedoch kam verdammt schnell an den Tisch. Das Schnitzel meiner Frau war sehr gleichförmig und die Panade klebte am Schnitzel (klopfen aus der Küche war nicht zu hören!), wir gingen hier von einem convenience Produkt aus!!! Meine Haxe war fettig und lauwarm…man versicherte uns auf Nachfrage das alles frisch sei…sorry das war leider für uns nichts…ich kann somit den Bewertungen der letzten Zeit nur zustimmen…große Enttäuschung und verdammt viel Geld für noch nicht mal überschaubares Essen-warum nicht fair und regional für gutes Geld…

Sorry, food like it comes from a canteen. 5 minutes for a schnitzel with mushroom sauce means, It was a frozen schnitzel (pork) from the deep fryer. For over 23 euros. Simply too expensive. But a very, very friendly and careful service staff. The ambience speaks for itself, simply rustic

Friday evening, no reservation, no problem. The waiter quickly organized one of the few free seats for us. We immediately felt comfortable and welcome. The food was more than plentiful and very good. Rarely has the overall package worked as well as it did here. We would be happy to come back. It was a nice end to our spontaneous vacation

A classic, good bourgeois restaurant in an authentic setting. I have rarely been so positively surprised. As already mentioned at the beginning, the atmosphere is very authentic. If you adjusted your clothing style accordingly, you could easily experience a little journey through time. The range of food on offer is very good. There is a seasonally changing menu that complements the main menu. You can choose from the usual classics such as schnitzel etc., a small selection of game dishes and a selection of vegetarian dishes. These have a separate section on the map so that you don't have to look for one among all the others. Of course there is a drinks menu which is also quite extensive. I think everyone who likes German cuisine will be able to find something there so that no one has to leave the restaurant hungry or thirsty. I think the homemade ice cream is particularly worth mentioning. It should be noted that I have only had vanilla so far, there were also strawberry and chocolate to choose from. However, based on the overall quality of the restaurant, I think it is extremely likely that these two ice cream flavors will also be of the highest quality. The service was very good and can be described as professional overall. In terms of price, I haven't eaten this well in a long time. Measured against the market, I would say the Resteraunt's pricing is in the middle to upper midfield. My conclusion is that next time I'm in Wernigerode I'll go there again and definitely try the strawberry ice cream.

Spontaneous stop, 2 adults and 2 children. Very friendly welcome, great staff. The kids got art supplies straight away. The food arrived quickly and we were able to eat in peace. Everyone enjoyed it very much.

Wir haben fuer Sylvester um 20.00 Uhr einen Tisch reserviert. Reservierung und Platzzuweisung klappte. Nach ca. 35 Minuten wurden wir gefragt, ob wir bereits eine Speisekarte haetten. In dieser Zeit sind aber diverse Bedienungenan unsserem Tisch vorbeigelaufen. (Dumme Frage, haette man sehen koennen,das keine auf demTisch liegt.) Nach der Bestellung kam das Essen relativ schnell. Ich muss sagen, das ich selten so schlecht gegessen habe. Hatte Schweinshaxe mit Sauerkraut und Knoedel. Lieblos auf denmTeller gehauen,ohne jede Anrichtung. Haxe hatte keine krosche Haut, Fleisch war zerkocht. Knoedel aus derPackung, Sauerkraut aus dem Glas. Meine Frau hatte ein Linsen Curry. Der Teller kam und es sah aus wie ausge........ Fazit: Den Preis nicht wert und nicht empfehlenswert!!!!!!!

The Ratskeller Wernigerode is absolutely recommended! The grilled knuckle in particular was a highlight – perfectly prepared and very tasty. The house beer complements the food wonderfully. The historical ambience creates a great atmosphere that we would love to come back to at any time.

Service was very friendly despite the stress (full house due to the first public holiday). Short waiting times for drinks and food, but definitely very good for the number of guests. The food was delicious with large enough portions. The only point of criticism: the food was too cold for me (!), but for the others at the table it was just right. We'd love to come back

The food was ok. Requests for changes were carried out immediately. Later it became full, but it was still cozy and the many guests didn't bother us, the background noise was ok. Good restaurant for home-style food. The venison goulash with dumplings and red cabbage is recommended. Overall, a successful dinner for five.

Very disappointing. Had the Christmas special goose leg, which was so dry that I couldn't eat about a third of it. It came with the tiniest amount of sauce and a potato dumpling which was average... The red cabbage was good. But all together not nearly worth the premium price tag of almost 30 Euros.

We have been coming back for tens of years when we go on vacation for a few days in Wernigerode. Quite a ritual. Unfortunately, the cozy aspect that characterizes a Ratskeller is being lost more and more every year. For example, this time the staff at the front of the counter rolled the dice loudly. An absurdity given the high prices. In terms of taste, one meal (the knuckle) was very good, the other (cheese spaetzle) was unfortunately not.

Very well renovated, you feel like you have been transported back several centuries. Plus by far the best venison goulash with loos and red cabbage. Unfortunately I had already inhaled before I could pull out the phone to take the photo... a good balance in terms of price too.

The food wasn't anything special, it reminded me more of a canteen. The prices for this are pretty excessive. The waiting time for court was quite long. We waited 45 minutes for our order, even though the restaurant wasn't full. We won't go there a second time.

The square is beautiful and the place is nice. The prices are very expensive, yes. We had a bad experience although it may not be normal; The waiters are Asian and understand practically nothing. They served us a carrot soup that was really, disgusting; sour and tasteless (we suspect it was in poor condition). We told the waiters about it and they didn't understand anything. They charged us for the soup anyway. A real shame.

We can also only give the food in the Ratskeller 1 star because you had the impression that everything was just warmed up and came out of a package. My husband had knuckle with sauerkraut and it was really just canteen level. The second dish was pork schnitzel with fries and salad not fresh and the fries were fried in old fat. It's a shame, all dishes that should be right in a good home-style kitchen. We were very disappointed and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. We were visiting Wernigerode for 3 days and were looking for a place to have dinner. By chance we got a place outside because everything was really full. The short wait was well worth it and the food was excellent. Absolutely recommended, would be happy to come again.

The website advertises slow food, which, among other things, stands for more local cuisine and high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, you don't notice it when you eat. The service is nice and attentive even when the occupancy is high (we had to sit outside), but the quality of the food is not in proportion to the price. What kind of slow food pork schnitzel with fries is supposed to be is anyone's guess...the quality and appearance was below average and would have been better suited to a self-service restaurant. The "small salad" that came with it according to the menu was more of a tiny salad garnish that was unfortunately very sour and didn't taste good at all. The other guests at the table weren't really convinced by their food either (salad, pasta, soup...). All of this would be too much to bear if the prices for the region weren't above average. I can therefore not recommend the Ratskeller and would not visit it again.

Glasses dirty, preferred to drink from the bottle. Food wasn't very warm and not really tasty, except for the cheese spaetzle. In the salad, the cucumbers were cored, but with the peel on, so for my taste, if you have to get rid of something, it's better to have the peel and the inside, so it looks like you have the leftovers in your salad. For the price, I really expected something better.

I ate in this restaurant during the autumn holidays. I am lactose and gluten intolerant. I asked for a salad with chicken that cost about 15 euros, the chicken was breaded so it was replaced with salmon. First of all they brought me pasta with gluten, then the dish was sent back. Then came the salmon with a small mixed salad. Even though I had the impression that the food contained lactose, they did not replace the dish and, due to the food contamination I felt sick (vomiting and diarrhea). Finally, the price of the dish, without being informed, had risen to 28,80 euros. No expertise in case of allergies and food intolerances, no attention to respecting the health of customers, no transparency regarding prices. I strongly advise against it.

Went here spontaneously on Saturday. It was so extremely full that we could only sit outside by the heater. But with a blanket it was ok. Service was great and even though it was so full, the food came relatively quickly and was really tasty 😋 clear recommendation 👍

Ich kann die Bewertungen hier nicht nachvollziehen, wir haben anderes erlebt. Ja, das Personal hatte merklich um die Ohren und war erkennbar im Stress, aber für irgendwelchen Unmut sorgte das nicht. Der Koch war eindeutig ganz bei der Sache. Das Essen war aus unser beider Sicht wirklich super und ich habe noch den ganzen Tag davon geschwärmt. Definitiv würden wir wieder hingehen, das Restaurant lag aber leider nur an einer Urlaubsroute.

Had dinner twice in the Ratskeller. Nice ambience. The waiters (assistants) were sometimes overwhelmed. When you eat, you expect something different given the price. Roast pork was still very tough and not exactly warm. The highlight was the small salad plate, the eye said no (simply poured it out of the bag and poured sauce over it). Complaining at a high level, but for the price you shouldn't do mass processing

Hello, I came on the recommendation of my friend. Unfortunately I have to say that I have never paid so much money for such bad food. It's not possible to eat lukewarm, the duck was completely dark and dry, the fried potatoes were colorless and tasteless, mainly the surcharge was charged. I thought some of the dishes were totally overpriced. But the service was also totally overwhelmed and impersonal. Conclusion: I do not recommend this restaurant. Too bad.

For some reason we were refused service as soon as they found out we did not speak German and in a quite rude manner. I’ve heard this happens in European cities before but did not expect it to happen to me, so i was quite disappointed. I hope this was a specific bad situation and not something that happens systematically.

Stopped in twice for the evening and had to experience joy and frustration, the first evening gets 100 points, cozy, nice, courteous, tasty, a successful end to the day. ... on the second visit we felt like we were at the Chinese snack bar... without words.

Online menu does not correspond to the actual memory card. Local prices are many times higher!!!!. The waiter then said that the boss knew, but nothing was changed. For me it's a deception!! Never again

Food is great and the service just didn't get 5 stars because we felt forgotten after the meal, even though there wasn't much going on.

The food was very nice (we had Hirschgulasch and Schweinebraten in Rahmpfifferling Sauce), and the staff was really super friendly. It is a nice, cozy place.

Great atmosphere in the Ratskeller, we got a table even without a reservation. Good attentive service, food was great. A successful evening. 😊
