A VERY strangely decorated restaurant... The food is fast food. Cheap, but still fast food... If you like good quality fries and the like for a low price, this is the place for you.

Nice restaurant with a good selection of dishes. The service is friendly, relaxed, and very attentive. Despite being busy, we received our drinks and food quickly.

The food is well prepared and tasty—hence the 4 stars. The service doesn't even deserve one star. After the dark-haired waitress looked us down in a condescending manner, and after noticing the subtle but visible eye-rolling of the young blonde waitress because we still hadn't found what we were looking for on the menu after a minute, we decided to go somewhere else for dessert and espresso. Dear Kartoffelhaus (number 1), your employees/waiters should learn to leave their own dissatisfaction at the door when they come to serve, or think about how to better motivate them. This is extremely embarrassing in the middle of Leipzig's old town. A real shame.

I went to Kartoffelhaus with my boyfriend for the first time around 8 p.m. WITHOUT a reservation, and we all give it 5 stars! We ordered the baked potato with quark (€7.50), the one with pulled pork (€14.00), and a portion of fries (€3.50). The Coke was €4.90 for a 0.4-liter bottle. The potato itself was so big that it was definitely filling. Everything was really delicious, we hardly had to wait for the food, and the server was really nice and grateful for the tip. There's really nothing to complain about! We'll be back :)

A nice restaurant concept centered around potatoes. Located in the heart of Leipzig at Lipsa Platz, it's great to sit outside. There are plenty of four-seater tables in front of the restaurant, but you can also sit inside. The menu focuses on potatoes and has a good selection of meats as well as some meatless dishes. There are also delicious desserts. The service is prompt and friendly. When ordering your dishes, they also take your requests into account and offer tips on meal selection. This speaks volumes about the cuisine and suggests that the dishes are freshly prepared. For us as a family, this is a must when visiting Leipzig.

A few days ago, we (three people) ate at Kartoffelhaus No. 1 in Leipzig. The decor is cozy, and the service was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and plentiful. The prices are moderate. After the meal, we were able to continue on our way in good spirits and full. Thank you for the friendly service, we would be happy to come back.

Surprise. We always walked past when we were in Leipzig. Stopped today and didn't regret it. Absolutely fair pricing and always attentive, friendly staff. We were greeted with a smile and a little schnong as a farewell treat. Thank you. Update: We weren't living here the last time we visited. A turning point. The coffee house at the Arabic Coffee Tree, along with its beautiful fountain, also attracts numerous photo-ops. The menu has changed a bit since our last visit, but not for the worse. Numerous bowls are now listed. In the end, we once again enjoyed a delicious meal here in this atmosphere with attentive, friendly service.

We had fried potatoes with herring. Unfortunately, they weren't fried potatoes, as they are nicely seared. Ours were light and flabby. I only ate the two herring fillets. The friendly waitress confirmed that fried potatoes didn't look like that, but I still had to pay full price. We definitely won't be back.

Our first visit to Kaffeehaus N1 was nothing to be sapped by. We were served promptly by very friendly staff. Drinks and food were brought to our table relatively quickly. The food (a bowl and rösti with chicken strips) was delicious and good value for money. For dessert, we had a delicious apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. We were completely satisfied and wholeheartedly recommend Kartoffelhaus.

August 23, 2025, around 4:00 PM. Three tables inside were occupied throughout our visit, the rest were empty, and none of them had a reservation sign. The waitress nevertheless sent us to a table outside, claiming there were no seats available inside. She whispered to the waitress next to her that she should address all guests that way. The waitress was an older brunette. She didn't know the words "hello, please excuse me." When I asked where the restroom was, she waved her hand toward the room. Shocking. During our meal, she was going out for a cigarette every 10 minutes like clockwork. Judging by other reviews, this person isn't suited to working with customers. The food was mediocre. I ordered a potato stuffed with mushrooms - 12.50 euros for a dry potato with a few mushrooms. I can praise the potato soup; it was tasty, but it's not worth ordering an extra sausage - the quality was poor. Overall, I can't recommend it 100% because of the service and we will never go back there.

I was about to go to this restaurant, but what I witnessed put me off all my enthusiasm. A waitress, a bit older and with black hair, coldly walked out on a group of six people after simply saying, "We only have one table for four." No interest, no help, zero hospitality, she just turned around and left. I've rarely experienced such arrogance and disrespect. If that's how they treat guests, I don't even want to know what the rest of the place is like. It was clear to me: I'm not setting foot in there!

Her only comment was, "We only have one table for four," and then she simply turned around and left us standing there. No attempt to find a solution, no courtesy, nothing at all. Anyone who treats guests like this should seriously consider whether they're the right person for service. An absolute no-go for us—we definitely won't be coming back.

We had lunch today, and there were no seats inside, so we sat outside. We waited quite a while for our food (definitely over 30 minutes). My husband ordered pork liver with mashed potatoes and was very pleased – the liver was well-done and crispy on the edges. I ordered a baked potato with what turned out to be a meat stew and baked with yellow cheese – it was okay, I ate it. I can't say it was bad, but it lacked any distinct flavor; I was expecting something different. We were definitely not happy with the service – the waitress, a middle-aged woman with dark hair, was clearly either having a bad day or wasn't into us. We very, very rarely don't tip, but this was one such occasion.

A classic restaurant in the heart of Leipzig's city center. The menu was plentiful and the food was delicious. You can sit outside, practically right in the pedestrian zone. One of the two waitresses was really attentive and friendly, while the others were clearly having a bad day!

We went there on a Tuesday without a reservation, the place was very quiet. We asked if there was room and that we could wait a bit, no problem. From the first question, they treated us condescendingly, with zero friendliness, and didn't say anything about the wait. So we stayed a bit to see if any tables were available, and even when they did, they didn't even look at us; it was only 7:00. We went elsewhere. Truly rude and uninterested!

Original restaurant with many potato dishes.

This weekend, the two of us and our dog visited the Kartoffelhaus in Leipzig and were unfortunately very disappointed with our experience. The really nice location, with a beautiful terrace offering a great view of a fountain and historic buildings, deserves special mention. A friendly waiter even provided us with a water bowl for our dog, which we greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, this positive impression was ruined by the rest of the service. A sign advertised an Aperol for €6.50 without specifying the quantity. What was served was a half-full glass filled with plenty of ice, which was obviously used to make the drink appear fuller. The actual amount of the drink was so small that we've never been served so little Aperol Spritz. When paying, we asked the waitress about it, and she explained that this was the original recipe. We tried to politely explain that the amount was unusually small, but instead of addressing our criticism, she became rude. We emphasized that we didn't want to argue, but we found such a reaction unprofessional. Guests should be able to express their opinions without being fobbed off. According to the menu, the Aperol cost €7.50 for just 4 cl. According to our research, the original Aperol Spritz recipe is made with 6 cl Aperol, 9 cl Prosecco, and 3 cl soda water, which equals 18 cl. Based on 4 cl Aperol, it should be about 12 cl (120 ml) – that doesn't seem appropriate for the price and with so much ice intended to dilute the drink. Had we not been treated so rudely, we might have overlooked the small quantity, but unfortunately, we can't recommend it. It's a shame, because the location and the terrace have potential.

The food was quite tasty, but far too expensive for tiny portions. We've been eating out for ten days, first in Potsdam and now in Leipzig, so we can compare quite well. The service was very friendly, but that doesn't really save much. The ambiance was also very old and dated...not my taste.

Nice location, the food itself is delicious, and the portions are okay, with the exception of the rösti (plate of rösti). They're just a rip-off. A starter for the price of a main course, with no indication of this, and the waitress didn't even mention it. The selection is also meager for a potato restaurant.

Serviceable, but I’m not impressed. Röstis and baked potatoes both felt smaller than expected and underwhelming, a generic “mensa” frozen food flavour to the toppings, price is much too high for it. Might as well gotten a subway for lunch

Review – Our Visit to the Kartoffelhaus Restaurant in Leipzig We ate there with a group of seven people, and unfortunately, our visit was rather disappointing. The first hurdle upon arrival was the space issue: Everything inside was full, so we wanted to push two tables together outside. A waitress forbade us from doing this, pointing out that the tables had to stay where they were. Another waiter, however, allowed us to push them together – so it was apparently a matter of attitude rather than the rule. Our request for a simple seat cushion – we were sitting under an umbrella – was also refused. The reason given was that this would create a "dynamic" in which all guests would then want a cushion. We found this type of customer service to be inflexible and not particularly hospitable. Regarding the food: The drinks were okay. My schnitzel "Hamburger Style," however, was disappointing – the fried potatoes were slightly burnt, and the schnitzel itself was quite small for the price. I found the side salad I ordered separately to be okay, but nothing special. Overall, we weren't impressed with the food, and the service was also spotty. I won't be returning to this restaurant on a future visit to Leipzig—fortunately, the city offers plenty of alternatives.

Very nice atmosphere. Great staff and super cheerful. The outdoor area is wonderful. Close to the center, a 5-minute walk from the S-Bahn station at Markt. Inviting to linger. The only problem is the restrooms in the underground area. Steep stairs. I'm not sure if there's an elevator down there. So ask beforehand if a wheelchair user can get there. No parking. So it's better to take the S-Bahn station to Markt.

Two of us went there for dinner on June 26th. It wasn't busy, but it took a while for one of the three servers to hand us the menu. Guests who arrived after us had already received their drinks. After we placed our orders, things moved pretty quickly. My husband had the rösti with pulled pork, and I had the rösti with baked vegetables. Unfortunately, the rösti were frozen and a bit mushy in the middle. The pulled pork was tasty, and the baked vegetables were fresh and well-seasoned. For a potato house, we would have expected fresh, homemade rösti. The older lady serving was attentive, but the first impression was rather grumpy. The visit was okay, but we won't go there again.

The Keller was super relaxed, polite, and friendly. The kids were immediately given crayons and something to draw with, which was really great. The ambiance is also good. The food was solid but not outstanding. The portion sizes were also actually too small. A portion of fries with less than 20 strips is really little. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our time at the Kartoffelhaus. I'd actually give it 4 stars, but the Keller staff did a really great job, so it gets 5 stars.
