PiGa - Pizzeria Gallo in Köln

We've been here several times and can highly recommend this restaurant. The location in Sülz is fantastic, and the courtyard offers a quiet place to sit outside. The Neapolitan pizza is excellent (nice and airy with fresh ingredients). The pasta has also impressed us on our last few visits. It tastes amazing and is beautifully presented. The staff is always very friendly and readily accommodates special requests. The changing monthly menu adds variety, and there's always something new to try. We'll definitely be back!

I've been going to Pizzeria PiGa in Cologne's Sülz district for years, and it's always fantastic 🍕 🍕 so I thought I'd leave a review today: My go-to pizza is the Salami Picante. For me, it's still one of the best Neapolitan pizzas in Cologne. But lately, the Pasta Linguine Scampi has become my absolute favorite 🤤🍝 What I also love is the monthly specials: there are always creative dishes and seasonal ingredients. Most recently, I had the pizza with asparagus. Simply incredible 😁😁 The staff is consistently friendly and attentive. And the owner, Toni, is warm and welcoming, whether you're a regular or a walk-in customer ❤️ The restaurant in the heart of Sülz is almost always busy, but there's a relaxed atmosphere, and you immediately feel at ease. Especially in the summer, you should definitely make a reservation if you want to sit outside. The terrace is truly wonderful. ... A clear 5 stars :-)))

The service was incredibly unfair and unfriendly. We had reserved a table and arrived on time. There was a large table free outside, but we weren't allowed to sit there because, apparently, reservations weren't accepted outside – yet the table was already "taken," even though no one had arrived. I found that completely illogical. I was polite the whole time and just wanted to understand, but then the owner came over and quite rudely told us we couldn't sit there and that it was his decision. That kind of tone is unacceptable. We ended up going somewhere else. I wouldn't go there again.

We had made a reservation in advance, but when we arrived, we were not given a table even though there were empty ones. When we asked if we could sit in the garden, we were told that reservations could not be made there. However, a few minutes later, that empty table was given to other guests. The staff’s attitude was particularly disappointing; their tone was condescending and unfriendly rather than polite. If the situation had been explained in a polite and respectful manner, we could have understood. Instead of being constructive, we were simply told, ‘I cannot give you this table’ without any explanation, so why did we make a reservation in the first place? This person likely suffered from a sense of entitlement, believing they could do whatever they pleased. I won’t even walk past this restaurant again.

Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere; the service is also very good, fast, and friendly.

We had reserved a table in advance, but upon arrival, we were refused seating despite there being plenty of free tables. When we inquired about sitting outside in the garden, we were told that reservations weren't possible there. Shortly afterward, however, that very same free table was reserved for other guests. The tone of the staff member was particularly unpleasant: he wasn't polite at all, but rather condescending and unfriendly. Had the situation been explained to us in a friendly and respectful manner, we would have understood. Instead, we simply felt mistreated. This behavior is completely incomprehensible to us and appears neither professional nor customer-oriented. It was also particularly disappointing that no one apologized for the situation. This kind of treatment of guests is unacceptable. We will definitely not be returning.

Let's be honest! This is how it should be! Service is unobtrusive but very friendly! Food is good, but not over the top! I'd even go so far as to say they have the best pizza in Cologne. But that's always a matter of taste. Keep it up!

Currently our favorite restaurant. Britta, pizzas, salads, and pasta dishes are all top-notch. And I could happily bathe in the mixed dessert platter.

I ate here with my parents and it was very tasty. Even my father, who usually always finds something to complain about when we go to restaurants, was satisfied. The pizza was crispy and delicious. The only slightly annoying thing was a high-pitched noise that was there the whole time.

Expectations were high, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was attentive. However, the pizza was unfortunately completely saltless. The olive oil advertised on the menu was also missing. No oregano or basil on the pizza, which might have enhanced the flavor. Luckily, there was salt and chili oil on the table for seasoning. Unfortunately, the onions were cut so thickly that they didn't cook through properly. A shame. I'll try again soon. I had another delicious pizza yesterday. It was really good! 👍

Having often seen the restaurant's busy and inviting exterior, we finally went in yesterday and managed to get a table at short notice. The ambiance is lovely, although the tables are a bit close together, but it creates a cozy atmosphere. The young waiter is incredibly friendly and nice. We ordered pizza with beef strips and arugula (GORGONZOLA E MANZO) and spaghetti vongole from the daily specials menu, along with two glasses of red wine. The wine was rather mediocre, and unfortunately, so was the food. The pasta could have used some seasoning, especially garlic, and the pizza was a bit soggy in the middle. For €22, one would expect a bit more GORGONZOLA. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either, and at this price, it was rather disappointing. It's a shame, because the owners/waiters are very nice and the ambiance is lovely.

The restaurant is fine for sitting inside, but in summer you should definitely sit outside. The pizza is delicious, though the more unusual varieties are a bit overpriced in my opinion. The pasta is decent. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The spinach Margherita pizza is my absolute favorite!

The pizza is very tasty, but the price is borderline. The seating inside is quite uncomfortable; all the tables are very close together, making it rather cramped. The noise level is therefore also poor. Overall, I wasn't impressed.

The food is very well-balanced in terms of flavor. The standard menu offers salads, pizza, and pasta as main courses. I personally don't mind that there isn't a separate category for fish and meat. Because what is conjured up in this very small kitchen is truly fantastic. The pizzas come from the stone oven, and the dough is prepared by hand (no ready-made doughs or pizza pans). The pasta is freshly prepared. You can see everything, as the kitchen is open to the dining room. The selection is varied, including vegan and vegetarian pasta and pizzas. The restrooms are clean. The service is extremely friendly and attentive. Customer requests are very well taken into account. The atmosphere is cozy. I found it interesting that the restaurant has a separate event room/conference room/hall.

The reputation was far better than the food itself. The pizza tasted okay, but some of it was quite burnt. The beef salad was so-so. But the capriccio was truly awful. They piled on so much Parmesan that you couldn't see the meat. Maybe that was for the best, but it was definitely the last time we'll be there. P.S. If you want to eat a really good Napoleonic pizza, go to Made in Napoli :)

We had the food for our civil wedding here, and it was truly a dream. Our guests absolutely loved the appetizer platters and desserts, along with the main course we offered à la carte. We, as well as all our guests, raved about the food and the ambiance. All the staff are super friendly and welcoming. You just feel at home here, and they also serve the best pizza in Cologne. Our new regular haunt.

Both the indoor and outdoor areas are very nice. The service is extremely attentive and friendly. The food is delicious, with carefully selected ingredients and combinations.

We spontaneously dropped by during peak season without a reservation, and... the young chef creatively arranged a table for two. An Aperol Spritz worthy of its name. The food was authentically prepared and very tasty, the service excellent, and the atmosphere lively. Everyone was very attentive – and executed it successfully. We'd happily return again and again. It's a good thing Piga exists.

The appetizer platter is perfectly seasoned with high-quality ingredients! I had the pizza with ham and mozzarella, and there was nothing wrong with that either. The crust was moist and flavorful, just like the ingredients used. Great place!!

If you are looking for a decent pizza, unfortunately this is not your place. It was heavy and way too cheesy and oily... could barely finish with half of it when I had already more than enough, and I was not really enjoying it. I am really surprised by the rating of this place, to me seems completely unreal and overpriced for the quality of the product it's offered. On top of that the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and the service was not good, very slow. They took 20 min to come and clean the table after we sat, quite disappointed overall. 16/08 - Answer to feedback from owner: I am sorry to receive such an impolite answer from the business directly, but it is really in line with the service and quality I received, so not really surprised. My feedback is as real as the fact that I did not like the pizza and my experience at PiGa. I have tried good Napoletan Pizza and believe me it has nothing to do with what's served in your restaurant. Maybe your fior di latte is a good product but overloading the pizza with it and oil is not going to help at all. PS: I was there on Friday Aug8th so nothing to do with 35 deg outside "my friend" ;)

We had a lovely Friday evening at PiGa. The quiet courtyard offers a very private setting. The food was delicious all around! The staff is very service-oriented and, especially when it comes to food intolerances, they are always willing to listen and adapt the dishes to suit your needs/requirements – without compromising on taste. Always a lovely experience and an absolute recommendation.

Very tasty pizza, nice atmosphere and great service

The atmosphere is good, the food is good. The two-hour time slot on weekends is less than ideal. This isn't appropriate for a pizzeria in the neighborhood, where people tend to linger for a drink after dinner. Given the considerable price of a pizza, it should be bearable if one or two tables are only occupied once in the evening.

A lovely pizzeria with delicious Neapolitan pizza. The menu could be a bit more varied and exciting for my taste. For vegans, I think the only pizza available was the cashew ricotta pizza, which was exceptionally deliciously seasoned. The courtyard is lovely in the summer, but it's very busy due to several gyms in the same courtyard.

A typical Sülz pizzeria, dressed up to look chic. The atmosphere inside, for us former Klettenbergers, is rather sober. It's probably nicer outside in good weather... The pasta dishes and pizzas are rather expensive, but tasty. They probably only served tiny glasses for our friend's dessert? The price of €6.90 was quite exorbitant.

Great pizza, great service and really cozy!

Relaxed atmosphere in this cozy pizzeria, plus quick service with friendly communication. Our food arrived at an almost unbelievable speed and was just as delicious: spaghetti with shrimps was a dream😋, the pizza in the best Italian tradition from the stone oven and the obligatory tiramisu was irresistible and served without being asked with 2 small forks. It's not just the rooster who is happy 🐓😃

I reserved a table here for Saturday evening based on a recommendation for Mohn and 3 friends. The restaurant, including the outdoor area, was completely full and there were also many people picking up their food (which could also have been due to the street festival). There was apparently only one service for inside and one for outside, but we were served very nicely and quickly. Both waitresses were refreshingly friendly, seemed to be in a good mood and made jokes with us. We actually went to PiGa because of a friend's pizza recommendation and the pizzas looked really tasty, but we were all more in the mood for pasta. I was particularly pleased that the spaghetti carbonara was not only available in German style, but also in Italian style, which I absolutely had to order. And I wasn't disappointed. As a starter we shared the foccacia and as dessert we had tiramisu and lava cake with vanilla ice cream. In the end we were even offered to split the bill by 4 in a relaxed manner so that each of us could pay separately. Great service. Overall, a nice evening with delicious food at a fair price. I can only recommend it and I will definitely go back.

We really enjoy coming here or ordering pizza to our house. Very vegan friendly - we always get the spinach pizza with super delicious cashew ricotta instead of cheese.

It is this special magic of the place that immediately captivates you. The staff? Friendly, warm and always trying hard! That's how it should be in a restaurant with such a charming atmosphere. You immediately feel welcome and in good hands. But let’s get to the heart of it – the food. Here you are in a solid midfield: neither a culinary fireworks display nor total disappointment. The pizzas are quite tasty; They bring a touch of Italy to the plate - even if the topping here is rather sad and modest: just four prawns on a pizza is almost a provocation for the hungry stomach! A small hint that the calculations may have been a bit stingy here. The other pizzas also had really sad toppings. PS: You can see and taste cans of Champions!!!! Despite all the criticisms, I can still recommend the pizzas; they are the highlight of the menu! However, I have to note: the authenticity often tastes more like German-Italian fusion than real Italian flair. But that shouldn't bother us - after all, it's all about enjoyment and conviviality! Overall, one thing remains clear: This restaurant is a good choice for Sülz if you want to eat something delicious in a relaxed manner. In terms of price, it is more in the upper segment; but unfortunately this does not reflect either the quality or the quantity of the food. In conclusion: This restaurant has its own charm and offers a pleasant opportunity for social evenings - even if some aspects could still be improved. Pizza delivered via delivery, pizzas arrived completely destroyed due to incorrect transport. Called immediately, was blamed on driver and that was it. The pizzeria received money from us and not the driver. They're doing so well that they don't care about a complaint.

This pizzeria is simply great! No matter whether you eat on site or take something to go: the quality always remains at the highest level. But what really makes this pizzeria special is the boss and his team. So warm and authentic – you immediately feel welcome. If you're looking for good food and a warm atmosphere, you should definitely stop by. It's always worth a visit and we'll definitely come back!

Nice, modern, hip. The starters (antipasti and focaccia) were good. The main courses, however, were far too greasy (pasta) or overloaded with cheese (pizza).

In the photo "mixed appetizers" and the "colored" pizza. The starter was truly exceptional as far as I'm concerned. Not much bread, unfortunately - dish to be divided between two people like we did, otherwise a bit too much. The pizza arrived to me first raw (it can happen, God forbid) and then with the edges all burnt. I would have appreciated something in between... Very kind staff, still fair prices for a restaurant in the area. Really beautiful atmosphere! From the paintings, to the music, to the wine (the presentation of the wines on the menu is very interesting!) I will definitely return to try the pasta with fennel and the pizza with pears. It intrigued me a lot! Small note: the pizzas that had mozzarella overflowed, it was really too much. It doesn't concern me personally as I have only consumed vegan, but perhaps it should be reviewed? Thank you so much for the evening 🙏🏻

The positive first: the staff. They're really extremely attentive and friendly about the food, but I'm not entirely convinced by the food. First of all, pizza: every pizza there is topped with a specific mozzarella, which is made from fior di latte. I'm missing a bit of variance here. There should be pizza variations with different types of cheese, such as Parmesan, Gruyere or Gouda. Because I think this mozzarella doesn't go well with every pizza. The dough is said to be particularly gentle because it has a long rising time. Me and my girlfriend have always had stomach ache from the yeast. Additionally, the pizza is just not crispy in the middle, it hangs down and that's what I think it should be different. We have already tried all three salads. None of these salads blew us away, on the contrary: two out of three are such that we wouldn't order them again. Too much dressing that doesn't really taste good. Overall, the salads are not really tasty. Have been there three times now and probably won't go there again in the future. And about your feedback, dear Piga: If Gennaro Contaldo puts different types of cheese on his pizza, then it's probably not a faux pas as you portray it.

Hello, Last night I celebrated my birthday with you. When we made the reservation in advance, everything was simple and uncomplicated. However, the service was very poor throughout the evening. We had to go to the counter and order drinks several times. Nobody came to our table once throughout the evening without being asked to ask for drinks or requests. The table with empty plates was not cleared until we left the restaurant. The service staff was friendly, but completely helpless. Only the guests outside were served and we were left out. In addition, the drinks, aperol Spritz and Sarti Spritz, were not sufficiently cooled. It's a shame, I really remember the restaurant and especially the service.

Catastrophe. Very important: order via Wolt. I loved that you could order Italian-style spaghetti carbonara with egg. We decided on this and a salami pizza. The order was probably ready for much longer than it was finally picked up. When we arrived, all the toppings were stuck to the lid and the pizza was really ice cold. A plus point, hence two stars: scraped down, it tasted quite good. But the carbonara was a single hardened and unfortunately tasteless block from which I was able to cut slices. Really not good, tasty or appealing. The temperature problem and the sticky surface are probably more to blame on Wolt and the driver, but the carbonara itself was really not recommended. Wolt was also contacted directly.

Best pizza north of the Brenner Pass. Here you realize that cooking is an art and baking a perfect pizza is part of it. Not everyone can do it, but these guys have it. The best ingredients composed with love and passion to create a perfect dish.

The food itself tasted delicious, but the portions were minimal. A bit sad for this price. Furthermore, the service was not particularly attentive.

The food is excellent and tastes like in Italy. The boss is Italian himself and welcomes his guests personally with his warm manner. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the outdoor terrace is cozy and you can feel very comfortable here. For me, definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in Cologne!

The two guys at the pizza oven are already outstanding, but when it comes to antipasti and pasta they surpass many of the offerings from Bella Italia in Cologne. Antonio Gallo and his small team at PiGa in Sülz shine with a great concept, charm and lots of atmosphere - even in the open air.
