Petit Fritz in München

It feels like being on holiday in France, I love it! Cool team, great service, fantastic creative menu, and the oysters are divine. :))

We went to Petit Fritz for a dinner with 30 guests. The cozy atmosphere, the lovely ambiance, and the excellent food left a lasting positive impression. The preparatory discussions were also friendly and all our wishes were taken into account. Definitely recommended!

Very french, long waiting but it worth

We had the perfect restaurant experience here! The service was very attentive, charming, and thoughtful – simply wonderful. The food was excellent and the ambiance was fantastic.

Excellent steak fries, pleasant atmosphere, although not a place for lingering. Since reservations aren't possible, you sometimes have to wait a short while.

I have been twice so far at Petit Fritz. At the first time (about 3-4 years ago) I wasn't impressed by the food (neither were my friends which then didn''t want to go back), so I haven't been in a while. Then recently I went again as it is a social hotspot in our neighbourhood and as other friends said the food was fine. First impression as we were waiting by the kitchen (people can look into the kitchen while waiting/passing by), was quite bad as a cook put some food on a plate with his hands which isn't too hygienic imo. It was definitely busy, good atmosphere and cool people, no music though, just social and (louder) chats at the tables. The service was friendly and quick. As we (my partner and I) don't eat meat, we went for fish and vegetarian. We ordered two Oysters, a starter (beetroot on bread with a bit of cheese) and as main dish smoked halibut on bread again (the fish/seafood selection is very limited). We were not impressed. My partner originally wanted the halibut as well, but they only had one left, but anyways she doesn't eat cream and the fish had lots of sour cream added on top. But actually we wanted the pumpkin with goat cheese which we at first got talked out of as the waiter recommended the same dish with seafood (shellfish on bread with a lobster bisque). My partner wasn't into it, so we asked to return it. We asked then for the pumpkin instead. We still had to pay the full meal of the shellfish bread with Lobster bisque and also then the pumpkin with goat cheese which was cold (which we didn't know) with a very cold plate. Unfortunately, the food experience wasn't great and the dinner was almost 180€ exkl. Tip which felt a lot as we were so unsatisfied with the food and one of us didn't drink alcohol neither, so we left half hungry and agreed that the place is great for drinks, but not recommended for food when you are vegetarian or pescatarian. I heard that meat is fine there and apparently the fish soup too which we both didn't try.

PetitFritz doesn't take reservations, which in itself makes it very interesting and charming. Much of the menu is handwritten, like the wine list, and the ambiance is truly wonderful. It feels a bit like being in France, right in the heart of Munich. When you're sitting there, you can hardly believe you're actually in Munich. The prices are perfectly reasonable, and the quality of the food is truly outstanding. You'll be treated to a culinary experience and will find a very well-balanced wine list—a real highlight for wine lovers. As mentioned, there can be longer waiting times since reservations aren't accepted. However, if that doesn't bother you, you're sure to have a wonderful evening in a cool bar with a great atmosphere and exceptionally friendly service.

Summary: Long waiting time, crowded, and higher prices than usual. 😒 We visited the place on Sunday for dinner. It took us about 40 minutes to be seated. So I can't recommend it if you're hungry or don't have an additional hour of spare time. ⌚ I tried Merguez and a simple salad. The latter was pretty small for the price, though okay - iceberg lettuce with a balsamic spray. Meanwhile, the former was tasty and balanced; however, I was surprised by having non-spicy sausages, which were supposed to be at least mildly spicy. 🙄 The place inside is very crowded and pretty loud. 😵‍💫 Last but not least is money - it is about 30% Premium here compared to a typical Munich restaurant. 💶💶

We went for a tartar, mackerel, and a 220g steak at medium. Tartar: decent, could have stronger seasoning. The small portion is already quite big. Mackerel: splendid. Steak: looks plain but one of the best steaks in Munich. Crispy charcoal flavored crust and tender juicy inside, amazing texture. Pricey. Very good chips too. Petit Fritz, as the name suggests, is a small restaurant. It has many tables, but all of them are relatively small. If you want to share a lot of food with a lot of friends, plan more time as they have a wonderful menu, too many to choose from, but can only serve so much at a time. This could be a good place for wine and tapas too. Who would have guessed it from outside.

Normally, I never write reviews, and I’m sure the food would have been delicious! We waited and put our names on the list. We were told we could have a drink outside while waiting for a table, which we did. After about 45 minutes in 6°C weather, we still hadn’t been seated, even though several people who arrived after us were given tables. After nearly an hour, we paid for our drinks and left — cold and hungry.

No reservations. Waited 45 min. Soooo worth it. Don't miss this place. Local favorite.

Update: Meanwhile we were there plenty of times and we love this Place!! Feels like Paris in the Heart of munich. Unfortunately there were some miscommunications with the service but in the end they offered us cremant and water for free. So a nice experience and we will come again!

Cool atmosphere, with super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The menu, drinks, staff, and decor all fit together perfectly. The food is pretty good, but not great. You can't go wrong here, and it's a great place for a cozy evening. But the food still has room for improvement, especially at this price point.

One of our favorite restaurants! It's worth arriving early; we were there at 6 p.m. and didn't have to wait. I really like the concept of not requiring reservations. They don't send guests out after two hours, like many others. The food is truly excellent. The steak and fries are truly among the best I've ever had. The service is super friendly and prompt. Our wine couldn't be left at the table, but we never had an empty glass.

We were truly looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, our visit was marked by poor service. From the start, the waiter (a tall man with black curly hair) was unwelcoming and visibly irritated when we let him know we were ready to order—after already waiting quite a while. The food itself was underwhelming: it lacked basic seasoning like salt and pepper and took an unreasonably long time to arrive. What made the experience worse was the attitude of our server—he seemed offended whenever we politely asked for essentials like water or bread. By the end, we honestly weren’t sure what scared us more: asking for the bill or just trying to get through the meal. A real disappointment, especially considering the restaurant’s potential.

You wait over an hour for a table. The seating is far too close together. I had seafood and didn't feel well at all afterward. The waiters are arrogant.

The best place for oysters in Munich! The wine list is also excellent; ask the waiter for recommendations. Everything on the menu is delicious. The only downside is that reservations are not available, so you have to arrive early. Also: My friends loved their conservatory.

Unfortunately, there are far too few vegetarian/vegan options! Otherwise, a truly great atmosphere & very friendly and good service. ❤️ Great for enjoying a glass of wine or an aperitif. :)

I absolutely love this place! It’s a classic French restaurant with an extensive and delicious wine selection. You can’t reserve, so you might need a bit of luck — but it’s totally worth it. The food is excellent, and there’s a large variety of oysters, with knowledgeable recommendations. The staff are also very friendly and wear stylish uniforms. A real Munich staple.

Amazing vibe - a bit of Paris in Munich! Friendly service and tartines were good but can do better with the fish options! Smoked salmon was too much and needed for ingredients to diversify the flavor a little.

A pleasant atmosphere, with a decent culinary offering. We arrived a little late, but still had time for a few bites. We only waited about 15 minutes for a table, and we took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a bottle of the 2023 Horgelus Blanc (Gascogne) white wine – a Sauvignon Blanc & Colombard, with perfect acidity to accompany the oysters. Once seated, we moved on to the 2022 La Grange des Copains (Languedoc) red wine – Syrah, Carignan, Grenache – which paired wonderfully with the Rillettes de Canard and the Tartare de Boeuf. Excellent service. A highly recommended option, we'll definitely come back and try more items from the menu.

The ambiance was great, but unfortunately a bit snooty. Also, despite the rather good, concise menu, some dishes and drinks were missing, which was a shame. I still find €6.90 for sparkling water a bit harsh, but okay, bonjour Munich. Bread was forgotten for my fish soup; I ordered fries, and then they brought it later. The soup consisted of scampi, salmon, and mussels with lots of fennel; I would have liked more fish and no peppers, but okay, that's a matter of taste. A nice place otherwise, but quite expensive at €50 per person for 1 water, 1 beer, 1 wine, and 2 main courses...

One of the best French restaurants I've ever eaten at. However, you have to expect a very long wait outside the restaurant. The waiter said the wait is better during the week. Still, I highly recommend it and it deserves five stars! It's definitely worth it!

This afternoon, three of us were at Petit Fritz, just wanting to relax and enjoy a glass or two of wine and the day – but unfortunately, that was completely impossible. Right next to us sat a group of four pretty drunk people who were behaving completely inappropriately. One of them had her feet propped up on a chair right next to our table the whole time. When we politely asked her to vacate it, her friend slammed the chair provocatively in our direction when she returned from the restroom. Extremely disrespectful. What really annoyed us was that the staff noticed everything and simply did nothing. Not a glance, not a word, not an intervention. And that was despite the fact that it was completely obvious how unpleasant it was for us. We left without ordering – we didn't want to stay in that kind of atmosphere.

A good place to sample the French lifestyle in Munich. Most of the classics on the menu are still appealing even after several visits. However, the staff urgently needs to intervene with guests who try to gain a reputation through loudness and inappropriate conversation topics.

Cool shop with authentic decor. Service and wine recommendations were good. Oysters and prawn rose were delicious, but I've never had such bad mussels and fries. 70% of the mussels were still closed and the rest were extremely small. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend them. The meat looked better.

In general everything was wonderful, but we first wanted to get a reserved table and called them but the number wasn’t available… The food was amazing!!! We loved the mussels and steak frites. The service was interesting… they were nice but one of them was moody and clumsy! The atmosphere was very nice it had an open kitchen where you could see how they prepared the food! Also one disadvantage was that it was expensive!

Arrived at 7:30 p.m. 9:15 p.m., still no main course. Almost 2 hours later!!! I canceled a steak order. They confirmed that it was fully booked. The bill arrived at 11 p.m. with a steak and a comment: "A cancellation is a cancellation, and we've received 17 cancellations today. We can't do any more." Ridiculous. Don't deliver, confirm that the cancellation is okay, and then charge anyway. And on a Monday when it wasn't even that busy. Feel free to go there for wine, but don't eat unless you have 3 hours or more to spare and customer-friendly service is absolutely not important to you. I'm shocked that I didn't get any food, was lied to, and that it was completely normal. It's 2025. It's unacceptable. ——- Update July 1, 2025: The steak issue has since been resolved. It was an oversight and has been resolved. The team is very friendly, understanding, and helpful. I've updated my rating to 4/5 stars.

In addition to the very attentive service, the dishes were perfectly rounded off. The Tegernsee beer at the end was excellent and at the perfect temperature.

I've been to Petit Fritz a few times. The restaurant is highly recommended for both lunch and dinner. Very nice, traditional atmosphere combined with very good service and delicious food. It is busy in the evenings and at lunchtime, so it is advisable to make a reservation, especially during peak times.

I've known Chez Fritz for a long time and am a fan, so I was curious to try its "little brother." The food was good, the menu was concise and not comparable to Chez Fritz, but it fits the concept. The ambiance is great, the clientele is hardcore Munich Schwabing, but it's part of the package. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the service concept. The outdoor area is shared by two guys in their early 20s who spend two-thirds of their time chatting together or entertaining the female guests. All good, but not when half the tables repeatedly asked for a new wine, the bill, or something similar. According to the reviews, this seems to be a regular occurrence. It's a shame.

Friendly, honest service with really good food. Steak cooked to perfection. If you can't get a steak by 5 p.m., just fill the time with oysters (Sylter oysters highly recommended). It quickly gets loud and crowded in the place, but that's negligible given the good food. I definitely recommend the desserts.

Great atmosphere and hats off to the interior design team. Feels like you are in Paris. Only bad part are the high stools at the back with a big lamp at the table where there is no way for 2 people to eat. We managed to get a table and were moved. Service is very hit or miss depending on whom you get. The day we were there 3 tables ordered the steak and all 6 steaks were well done! After complaining the waiter said it was the sunlight from the glass ceiling. (Back seating area is in like a Winter Garden) seriously?! You expect anyone to believe that? Service was slow and had to keep asking for our water, wine etc. Has potential to be a great place.

We waited 35 minutes for our food, only for the waitress to come over and say they were out of our food (lasagna). When I asked the waitress why she only told us this after 35 minutes, all she said was "Yes, I know." Not even an apology. Truly disappointing. Unfortunately, I can't rate the food because we never got anything. Please work on your service. I come from a restaurant background myself, but this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.

A definite asset to Hohenzollernstrasse, which has been somewhat unspectacular in recent years (as far as dining goes). Really cool atmosphere, nice clientele, and a decent selection of oysters. You don't necessarily have to order the steak here again, but I'd be happy to come back for the ambiance and atmosphere.

Excellent French bistro cuisine at reasonable prices in a pleasant, urban setting. The only drawback was the obvious preference given to "family and friends"/tip-givers when booking tables. Conclusion: If you don't have to wait, the food and atmosphere are worth it. Otherwise, I'd go to one of the countless other French bistros where customers are treated with significantly more respect.

A nice restaurant, but not comparable to its big brother, Chez Fritz. Because we like the latter so much, we tried this one. Unfortunately, the food isn't as good, but it's just as expensive. They also forgot parts of our order, which ended up being added to the bill anyway. The wait for a table was very long on a Saturday evening (about an hour) – in retrospect, it wasn't worth it.

Interior beautiful and photogenic. Creamy good. Waiting list system is very confusing. The irony of the service staff being outfitted in French workers' jackets to serve oysters to the Munich chic restaurant wafts gently through the air like a chanson. Audience clearly Rive Droite instead of Rive Gauche. The waiters – so far only men have been seen – cool bros among themselves. If so, I would only go during the day in the future; in the evening it's all rather tiring.

Super nice staff and very good food. Unfortunately, the seating is a bit cramped and overall it's so busy that it gets a bit too hectic. But good food also attracts a lot of people 👍

Nice atmosphere, but for €9.5 the crème brûlée I would have expected more

Waiters all very different. From “cool” (and a tiny bit arrogant) to extremely hard-working (gentlemen with pigtails). The choice of food was limited, especially the fact that you couldn't order a steak before 5 p.m. annoyed me a bit. But I did get it (because I bought an expensive bottle of wine) and it was really excellent. The fries too. The ambience is very nice, even if it's a bit cramped inside. Still recommendation.

We were there for a short time - we didn't want to deal with it any longer. First we had to wait for the table, even though the table was already free for us. Then the waiter came – with more attitude than charm. Arrogant, aloofly unfriendly, and so condescending, as if friendliness were only for the rank and file. Drinks? No. Eat? None. Appetite? Gone. Instead, we got up again - with an empty stomach, but at least full of determination never to come back. Anyone who is a guest here doesn't need money - just a thick skin. For us it was too much theater for too little service. Apparently the store is doing so well that you can do without friendliness. But so did we – on a second visit.

We entered the store and politely asked if there was space for two adults and a stroller. One of the employees assigned us a table, but after five minutes we were literally thrown out of the restaurant by another employee. I have been working in the catering industry for over 16 years and have never experienced such unfriendly and inhospitable staff. Embarrassing and ridiculous, as a guest I felt humiliated.

My girlfriend and I wanted to spend a relaxing evening at Petit Fritz. But what happened next was simply unbelievable. For no reason at all, my friend was suddenly approached by a group of older women. When a table became available shortly afterwards, the situation escalated further - the group complained to the owner and demanded that we be thrown out. Without even listening to us, the waiter snatched the drinks out of our hands and we were thrown out of the bar in front of all the guests - for absolutely no reason. That's not how you treat guests! Anyone who expects fair and respectful treatment should avoid this bar.

Highly recommended, offering a fantastically delicious 😋 selection of French dishes at relatively reasonable prices. Unfortunately, the tables are occupied during traditional meal times.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We received excellent service. Unfortunately, the seating and table are relatively small, making it feel cramped. This is purely a matter of personal preference. It bothers me, but it's possible that some people find this kind of atmosphere perfect.

Having just arrived from Marrakesh, with the smell of spices still in my nose and grains of sand in my shoes, I stopped off in Munich before heading to Rotterdam - in search of new flavors in the city's harbor bars and market halls. But before we go there, there was a little detour to Paris here at Petit Fritz. The sourdough bread with eggplant - smoky, creamy, with just the right depth - and a Croque Madame as it should be: buttery, golden brown, with perfectly melted cheese and an egg that slowly ran across the plate at the first cut. Accompanied by a glass of white wine, it took you straight to an afternoon on the Seine. The service? Uncomplicated, charming, just right. A place where you stay longer than you originally intended - and still order one last glass. Munich, thank you for this little culinary trip to France. Thank you, Fritz.

Excellent food and great location. Gives you the feeling you are sitting in a small brasserie in Paris. Staff is also super friendly. Good selection of drinks and wines. They do not accept reservations but there is a waiting list. Make sure to come early to avoid disappointment if not getting a table.

We wanted to have dinner for the three of us on Friday evening. Reservation? None. Why a fancy store can't afford a reservation system? No idea. Instead, the statement: “Go quickly, you’ll have a table in two hours.” Sure, because I have nothing better to do than stand outside the door for two hours. Without a reservation? No thanks. If that's possible at some point, I'll think about trying it again.

The food is of high quality and tastes first class. You can always spend a lovely evening here in a lovely French atmosphere. Absolute heart recommendation!

Great restaurant with very good food! Staff also great. The only negative thing is that you can't make a reservation. Otherwise everything is great!

The food is really delicious, but the service in the evening was unfortunately quite unfriendly. At lunchtime, however, the waiters were totally friendly and attentive. The system where you can't make a reservation is really annoying for the guests who have to sit right at the entrance - and it seems as if even the waiters are annoyed by it. I would recommend visiting around midday when there is less going on and the atmosphere is more relaxed.
