Pepella in Düsseldorf

I ordered a shashlik and realized that I will never go here again, because meat that is prepared on an electric grill and sold as shashlik is at the very least fraud.

Delicious Georgian food, highly recommended!

I understand that it's Saturday, but cooking khinkali and kebab for more than an hour is too much. They forgot to cook khachapuri at all. The kebab tastes good, but for some reason it's flat, the adjika is not the one you're used to eating in Georgian restaurants, there's not enough minced meat in the khinkali. They try to use the maximum space for seating, so be prepared to get close to your neighbors )

I previously wrote a review of this restaurant, but was later informed by Google that it had been removed due to a complaint of alleged "defamation." I visited the restaurant on April 13, 2024 (see photos with date and location). The food was good overall, and I liked the quality. One thing bothered me, however: there was an insect on my plate (see photo). We immediately reported it to the staff, but we were offered neither a discount nor any other solution. As we left, the staff essentially told us not to come back in the future—I understood this to mean we were unwelcome. It's been over a year since my visit, so I no longer have the receipt. I am writing this review solely based on my own experience and do not intend to defame anyone. Update after the restaurant's response: I noticed the insect immediately upon opening the khinkali and immediately pointed it out to the staff. I was offered the option of either waiting an hour for a new dish or eating the meal as it was. It was explained that insects "may be present" due to the open kitchen. A discount was declined, stating that one could only deduct what had already been eaten. The insect was under one of the khinkali, so it wasn't visible in the first few photos. I have no interest in badmouthing anyone—I just want to objectively report my experience.

Well. I recently visited this Georgian restaurant. The food was delicious, but unfortunately the service left a very negative impression. We had reserved a table for 8:00 pm but arrived around 8:30pm after walking from the city center. The restaurant was completely empty, yet the waitress reproached us for being late. She only spoke German and did not make any effort to communicate in English, which made it very difficult for us to understand the menu or ask for recommendations, especially for vegetarian options. When we tried to order one dish, she responded, “I don’t know if we still have it” and only after we insisted did she check, eventually telling us it was unavailable. The menu was only in German and Georgian, which made it challenging to navigate. When we later asked for a dry red wine, instead of assisting us, the same waitress sent over another staff member who spoke Russian to explain that the wine was not available. It felt as if she simply did not want to deal with us. At the end, when we had already paid and were still finishing our food, she came up and said only one word — “plates” — which felt rather rude and unwelcoming. To be clear: I truly enjoyed the food, but the service made me feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, despite the cuisine being very good, I would not return because of the way we were treated.

We were very surprised by how poorly seasoned the food was. And we're just talking about the lack of salt and pepper. While my dish was being served, my companion had to wait about 30 minutes for hers. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, but the service and food were truly nothing... For the price (which isn't exactly cheap), it's an absolute disgrace.

As delicious as the original in Georgia! We've visited several Georgian restaurants in Germany, and this is by far the most highly recommended! Very friendly service, pleasant ambiance, good value for money, and only freshly prepared food. Also highly recommended are the vegan/vegetarian options – something for everyone. Excellent cuisine, friendly staff! Fast serving of dishes, everything fresh and tasty. Kindzmarauli is top! In my opinion, a couple of sauces to choose from for khinkali are missing: Satsebeli, Tkemali, Sour cream-garlic or adjika. It would be awesome:) They treated us to chacha, gave us a new dish to try. It was like visiting old friends. Thank you!

This place is absolutely amazing! The food is delicious 🤤🤤🤤 one of the best Georgian meals I’ve had outside of Georgia. Every dish is prepared with so much care, and you can really taste the authenticity. 🥹💘 The service is warm and welcoming, and you can feel that everyone working there truly cares about sharing the real taste of Georgia with the world. If you want to experience authentic Georgian cuisine in Düsseldorf, you definitely need to go check it out. Absolutely loved it 👌

Never again! Following a recommendation from TikTok blogger Nora Eats Düsseldorf, we went to celebrate our birthday. We wanted to continue our restaurant tour, so we only ordered drinks and a small portion of khinkali. The waitress immediately looked at us and judged us because of our small order. The service was horrible, completely unfriendly and unpleasant. In the end (after an hour), we were asked to leave because the other guests also wanted to sit outside!!! A real disappointment. I would not recommend it.

The service is very bad. The khinkali are absolutely tasteless, and they made a mistake with the order. We didn't even sit any longer, we took the rest of the food with us, but threw it all in the trash at home. We ordered Georgian wine, but they brought us some cheap ordinary one. I won't go there again and I won't recommend this place to anyone.

I thought the food tasted good. However, the price was a bit too high for me, especially for the khinkali, which only needs to be boiled. But that's just my personal opinion.

We visited "Pepelella" for the first time today. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic decor. The service is friendly. The food was excellent. Freshly prepared, and the portions were generous. I don't understand the negative reviews about the long wait. The menu itself states that it might take a while because the food is freshly prepared. The open kitchen makes it clear that everything is handmade and freshly cooked. The food tastes exactly like it does in Georgia. I go there every year and think I'm a good judge of that. We'd love to come back!

Very tasty food. Unfortunately, our server seemed to be having a bad day. She was quite rude, questions about the dishes weren't answered, etc. We'll come back again, hoping it was just a bad day, because the food was delicious.

We had the mixed appetizer platter, filled dumplings, and baked bread with refried beans. It was my first time trying Georgian cuisine and I was very disappointed; my companion didn't like it either. The appetizer platter was okay, but the dumplings with minced meat were very poorly presented, consisting of tough, boiled dough with very little cooked minced meat; everything was very bland and pale. We didn't eat the bread with refried beans at all; it was completely tasteless and dry. We sat outside and were constantly reminded of the smell of garbage from neighboring trash cans. The service was cool and unattentive.

It was delicious...we had a starter and two main courses, shared everything, and were full. Highly recommended. Service was a bit slow, but OK, it was busy.

Very nice place. Calm and friendly atmosphere. They cook food quickly. The food itself is very tasty. The staff is polite and helpful. The waiters, for the most part, understand Russian. I was pleased)

We had Georgian food for the first time. It was okay for us, but not a must-try. We found the prices too high for a small cheese-filled khachapuri imeruli (corn flour flatbread) without a side dish for €12, and the appetizer for €12.50 was definitely too expensive. With a bit of luck, you'll get a parking space.

The restaurant was recommended to me by many people, and I've been to Pepella twice now with great anticipation, but I fear there won't be a third visit any time soon. First, the positive: All the dishes I've tried are generally well prepared. The appetizer platter offers a variety of delicious spreads, and the eggplant is amazing. The overriding criticism for me: The dishes are exactly what you order. Nothing more, nothing less. That means: if I order the main course of 4 khinkali (dumplings), I get 4 dumplings. No dip, no vegetable side dish, no broth. The same applies to every dish (which can be summarized as: dough with cheese/dough with meat, and grilled meat). This may be a peculiarity of Georgian cuisine, but when I go out to eat, I expect a meal concept consisting of meat/alternatives, carbohydrates, and vegetables. If the kitchen doesn't understand the menu, I'd like to see a note on the menu or from the waitress. (Especially since the main courses cost around €20, and ordering more than one would be a bit too much.) Otherwise, the food wasn't a taste explosion in terms of spices. As for the service: Generally nice, but not overly attentive, and the ordered main courses arrived at the table with a delay of up to 40 minutes in both cases (which isn't so nice when you're dining with two people). Atmosphere: It's neither particularly nice, nor is there anything specific to criticize. Maybe I didn't understand Georgian cuisine, but unfortunately, I'm not really convinced.

Great and authentic Georgian food!

Disappointing. The shashlik is grilled over charcoal, but not on skewers, rather than on a grill – the meat was dry and tough. In Georgia, a restaurant like this would quickly go bankrupt. Service was slow, even though there were hardly any customers. The atmosphere and flavor were unfortunately far from authentic Georgian cuisine. No reason to return.

The food was okay, but unfortunately the service was unfriendly and unprofessional. The woman who served us gave the impression that we were bothering her. Several items appeared double on the bill, likely because they weren’t brought out initially and we had to remind her. Couldn’t even be bothered to correct that with her, easier is to not go back.

Unfortunately, our visit didn't impress us. The wait times were quite long, and the dishes lacked flavor. The bread was also dry and unappealing. We found the food too expensive for the quality offered.

For those who have never eaten Georgian food before, it's worth stopping by. If you've already tried authentic Georgian food, you'll miss the kick here, as we did. No pepper served with khinkali, come on, where is the basis of the food culture and tradition??? We came with the goal of a sample meal, possibly to celebrate a birthday with a larger group later. I found the waitress quite "arrogant" in terms of energy, not inviting us to try more or stay longer. I know the famous Georgian hospitality; my neighbor was a Georgian and partly raised me. Here, I felt unwelcome. Perhaps this is a subjective perception, but celebrating a birthday here wouldn't be for us. Dear owner Katie, I read a lot of negative comments about the service, please pay attention. We might come back if things improve.

If you appreciate delicious and special food, this is the place for you! It's incredibly tasty and you can't get it on every corner. The prices are completely reasonable. The service wasn't particularly warm or friendly, but it was polite and did the job; at the time, we were the only one serving. The ambiance is nothing special—just tables and chairs, no flashy decorations or anything, not particularly modern, but perfectly fine. The main thing is that the food was delicious; we would come again. The service could smile a bit more, but that's really nitpicking; everything was good.

Overall it's ok, but nothing special. There's no atmosphere as such, the food tastes absolutely ordinary - nothing special. The service is a C: I ordered a glass of beer and they didn't bring it to me for about 10 minutes, while my boyfriend got it right away, I had to go and remind him. What a lovely place! Lovely staff, and excellent food. We had beans mousse with corn bread, and amber wine. Definitely will come here again. They have lots of vegetarian and vegan options.

Second time at the same restaurant. First time two years ago. Unfortunately, this time we waited over an hour for our food. The waitress was unfriendly and rolled her eyes at every question about the menu, as if we should have known everything. Overall, it wasn't a good decision.

We were there on a Sunday; our first time. We had a reservation and were given a friendly welcome, and were able to (almost) choose our table. You can sit comfortably both outside and inside. It was very clean, and you have a view of the kitchen – which, for us, speaks volumes about the honest and open-hearted atmosphere. The service was consistently attentive and courteous. 5/5 The place is cozy and beautifully decorated in the front, while it's a bit darker in the back, which can certainly be very nice in the evening. Overall, we found it well-appointed, clean, and functional. This also applies to the restrooms. 4/5 Most importantly, we thought the food was excellent. We had vegan starters and a traditional pastry dish with cheese for the main course – all very good. Plenty of food, the bread was crispy and fluffy. The cheese wasn't too greasy and very flavorful. We were well-fed but not stuffed. The ingredients made a high-quality impression. The highlight was the beetroot puree. 5/5 Very good value for money - we paid a total of €60 for appetizers, main course, and drinks, including tip. Great! 5/5 We'll be back! Highly recommended!

I was thrilled with my visit to Pepella. The Georgian cuisine was a real treat. The Georgian wine was excellent and went perfectly with it. The host was exceptionally warm and welcomed us with true Georgian hospitality. The service was warm and competent, you immediately feel welcome. Absolutely recommended!

In general, it is not bad, but there is a little meat in the khinkali, well, very little. Adjarian khachapuri was somewhat undercooked (the dough itself), but the filling is very tasty. Compote was the tastiest.

My husband and I had dinner at Pepella yesterday. We had never tried Georgian cuisine before. The restaurant was very busy and without a table reservation we probably wouldn't have gotten a seat. The ambience is a colorful, clocky and cozy mix. You immediately feel good. We chose a mixed starter platter with homemade bread. The main course included lamb with tarragon and filled dumplings. The food was incredibly delicious. You can feel that Pepella cooks authentically and with love. Price-performance is right. The Gerogian wine is also recommended. During the main course, the owner even came and offered us a sample of a new red wine, which we also ordered because it was so delicious. At the end we were given a very good nightcap that didn't scratch your throat, but kept its taste in your mouth for a long time. Pepella is definitely worth a visit. I recommend making a reservation. A really great evening to meet up with friends. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the good food is very good for you. Of course, it's also wonderful to drink one or two wines here and have a long chat. The service always seems polite to me. I can recommend everyone to come here and experience it for themselves.

We were here last year and we really liked everything, so we decided to repeat this year, but we were completely disappointed. We were greeted very dissatisfiedly, the halls were empty, we were offered a table on the aisle and near the emergency exit, we asked about another table and were told that we could sit at it provided that we left before 17:00. We ordered grilled meat, but it was not tasty. We were still sitting and didn’t ask for the bill, when they came up to us and asked if everything could be cleaned up, we were very surprised and decided that it was better for us to leave here quickly. Perhaps it was the girl who served us, because later the waitress who was there last year came over and she was very nice to us. There were 5 of us who would not go to this restaurant again and would not recommend it to any of our friends, but we have a lot of friends. I know that such reviews are deleted, but let the one who deletes them read this and think about whether such an attitude towards visitors, who with such an attitude will soon not remain, is correct.

An excellent Georgian establishment with delicious food and nice design. This is my second time dining here with my girlfriend. Seats for two are only at the exit, for me this is a minus, but it’s a matter of taste. Adjaruli bomba, shish kebab and kebab are delicious, but as a cook, I advise you to warm up the plates before serving, for example for guests like me who eat a lot at once and everything cools down during the meal. I recommend it👍

I have visited this wonderful Georgian restaurant many times and am amazed every time! The dishes are incredibly tasty, prepared with love and according to traditional recipes - juicy khinkali, aromatic khachapuri, tender meat and delicious sauces. The staff is always friendly, attentive and helpful with the selection. The cozy atmosphere and national flair make eating here particularly pleasant. I always enjoy coming back! Thank you for the excellent service and culinary pleasure!

We really liked the restaurant. It was very cozy and the food was really delicious! Contrary to some bad reviews, we didn't have to wait too long for our food even though the restaurant was full. There is only one point deducted for the price-performance ratio. For some dishes (e.g. a salad with tomatoes, onions and cucumber 13 euros) it didn't fit the food and the effort behind it.

The price does not correspond to the quality. It was delicious, but it is far from the most ideal Georgian establishment. From the nuances of food: the chicken meat in Chekmeruli and in the chicken “kebab” taste absolutely the same. In general, expectations and reality did not coincide, unfortunately. But if you don’t have an alternative option, you can visit this place. The atmosphere is generally good. But the management should hang a mirror in the toilet, replace that soap from the store with normal aromatic soap corresponding to restaurants in this price category. It would be wonderful to change the style, add Georgian surroundings, Georgian music, more Georgian atmosphere in the whole design, and that would be a different matter. But this is my subjective opinion, because... I visited more than 50 Georgian restaurants in different CIS countries, including Georgia, Armenia, and there is something to compare with.

I ate some damn schnajtzel with mustard sauce. I fancied it totally! It sat well with me but after the dinner when i went to talk to the owner he showed me the restroom. He said they newely upgraded it and what can i say. I was speachless... Everything was shining more than my grandma in her gown dress! I was like meeting my wife for the first time again. Sorry for dragging it but i was really impressed, thank you for the experience Hencrike! Auf wiederseen!

Wow very tasty. A friend and I wanted to try something new and decided on Georgian because we also have Georgian friends. We chose No. 14. The potatoes were so delicious and the meat sausage was nice and juicy 😍 To be honest I didn't like the wine that much, we had something lovely. That was too sweet for me. Still, I would give the food a 10/10. I also really liked the atmosphere 😊

The best and warmest environment, the most delicious dishes ❤️

Unfortunately we were disappointed with everything. We also had Georgian food for the first time. Service was a bit unfriendly and slow at first, but then made a lot of effort with the first order and recommended a delicious wine to us. None of us found the food particularly special. A little too bland and the dumplings watery and not enough filling. Unfortunately, there was nothing to be desired in terms of appearance or taste. Cheese bread was very tasty. It was worth a try but it didn't convince us.

Just pure disappointment. Starting from the confused service, to the unfriendliness and harassment caused by questions about the menu. The food was tasteless and messed up, maybe the chachapuri was okay. Lobiani was tasteless and dry, khinkalis were barely stuffed and also tasteless. I have been to Georgia and as a chef I have tried different dishes but this was a complete disappointment. Never again, not even a simple smile from the service staff.

We had lunch together. Very tasty. Khachapuri Imeruli, tender dough, wonderful filling. Khinkali is very good, thin dough, juicy. Chakhokhbili is wonderful. Pork shish kebab with potatoes and salad - a test! Blackberry kampot is super! We will definitely come again. The best place for in Dusseldorf.

I visited this restaurant with friends several times and tried all their khachapuri, khinkali, barbecue and other national dishes. The food is very tasty😊 And of course Georgian wine is also available 🍷 The employees in the restaurant are very friendly and attentive 🤗 I recommend the restaurant to everyone who is looking for a tasty and cozy place.

Unfortunately the food was very bad. The blonde lady who served us was unhelpful and seemed annoyed when we asked for recommendations. We had to google the food ourselves because she wouldn't help us. She also became even more unfriendly because we took a little longer to order. Overall a disappointing experience

The food tasted pretty good, but we were disappointed with the appetizer platter. Unfortunately, the service wasn't friendly and when we asked for recommendations, we didn't get an answer. It was nice to try out Georgian food, but for us it will be just this one visit.
