Oma's Küche in Köln

The Kölsch was stale. Portions were very small, the food was okay, but nothing more. There was apparently a problem with the cash register, and as a result, service dragged on; paying and ordering took forever. Not recommended!

I can't recommend it. Service: we had to wait a long time before we could order, then we were asked three times what we wanted and whether we had already ordered. The service was completely overwhelmed and had no system. The food arrived without cutlery! Only after we asked for it did the cutlery arrive after what felt like an eternity... Veggie pizza: the menu says toppings are zucchini, eggplant, peppers - it came with mushrooms, a homeopathic dose of zucchini, and peppers, the pizza base was almost impossible to cut and dry. What if you're a vegetarian and don't like mushrooms? We had Fassbrause (alcohol-free) to drink, but were then asked if we'd like two more Kölsch... (because the Fassbrause was also served with Kölsch glasses). All in all, we waited a long time for the food, the service was really awful, the food was questionable, the music was bad and extremely loud, thumbs down.

My grandma certainly didn't cook like this! The portions are rather small for the high prices, and the food wasn't particularly tasty. The ambiance outside wasn't very inviting either. Typical tourist rip-off, with little to do with typical German cuisine.

Not bad, but unfortunately overrated. The food was in extremely small portions and somewhat poorly presented. I ordered tagliatelle with mushroom cream sauce because the daily menu stated "tagliatelle with mushroom cream or tomato sauce." I got tagliatelle with tomato sauce and mushroom cream sauce on top. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I ordered at all and was a bit confusing. The ambiance wasn't that great, with tables and chairs mismatched and extremely close together on a side street. Also, very loud pop music blared from the restaurant, which didn't really fit the grandma theme, but that's a matter of taste. All in all, unfortunately, it wasn't what was advertised.

Grandma would turn in her grave, nothing more... Schnitzels taste of oil, fried potatoes hard as stone and cold to boot. (Oil and potatoes would be more appropriate.) You had to search for a tarte flambée topping...

I've never been treated with such disregard in a restaurant. The waiter is not even looking at me when serving the food - talking to other customers as I'm engaging with him. Just another tourist trap, nothing "Oma"-like.

We were there on Saturday afternoon. The food was very disappointing. Unfortunately, when we asked how it tasted and our answer, they didn't say anything. One dish was meatloaf with fried potatoes and salad, and the other dish was two fried eggs with fried potatoes and salad. The fried potatoes were a mushy, seasoned potato mush with no bacon or onions. The meatloaf felt like it was fried to death, and the fried eggs were unrecognizable as such. Just plain fried egg whites with yellow spots and overseasoned. A small bowl of carelessly served lettuce leaves with the stalk, 6 kernels of corn, a slice of cucumber, and a piece of tomato with a dollop of instant sauce. A sachet of ketchup cost 1 euro. The two plates of food (you couldn't call it food) together cost about 30 euros. We didn't eat it, but we weren't interested either. A shame. The service staff were okay, and it wasn't their fault. Not recommended. This has nothing to do with grandma's cooking.

Terrible service, extremely expensive for the minimal amount of food. On top of that, we waited almost an hour after ordering, only to be told they didn't have one of the dishes. They finally arrived, and since we were still hungry, we ordered another pizza, which never arrived. They didn't say anything to us until we asked after ANOTHER HOUR of waiting. They even charged us for a glass of tap water, and it wasn't exactly cheap.

At first glance, the restaurant appeared very nice and welcoming. However, our experience was extremely disappointing. After placing our order, the waitress behaved in a completely unprofessional manner. She questioned our taste preferences, stopped her colleague, laughed, and then loudly said, “Oh God, how can they eat this?” so that the entire dining room could hear. In addition, we had to wait an unreasonably long time for our food, which made the situation even worse. Such disrespectful behavior and poor service are unacceptable in any establishment, let alone one that gives the impression of quality at first sight.

I've never seen such disgusting food in my life! Ordered a cordon bleu for lunch today. It wasn't busy. What came out was a dry, musty-tasting mini frozen schnitzel. Along with it, rubbery, sticky, mushy, cold "fried potatoes." It was barely noticeable that they were food. Absolutely disgusting! When I complained, it was "reported to the kitchen." No apology, and I was charged the full price. Over €31 for food waste. Don't believe the good reviews! Please stay well away from this "place"!!!!!!!

The food was great with no issues at all. However, the service definitely needs improvement. The staff felt a bit unfriendly, and the food was served very slowly, we waited around 25–30 minutes. That was still acceptable as we were not in a rush, but when it came time to pay, we chose not to leave a tip given the overall experience. At that point, the waiter turned rude and literally tossed the receipt onto our table, which was quite surprising and disappointing. That said, the food itself was good.

After waiting over 30 minutes, our food was finally ready. I chose a schnitzel, but it wasn't very flavorful. My friend had the flammkuchen, which he did enjoy. I heard from another customer that their order had been taken incorrectly. The staff needs to listen more attentively.

Incredibly bad, expensive, and actually not worth a star - sorry. Everything seemed/was somehow dirty and greasy - even the lady who ran towards us while we were looking for our seats, her white wool sweater had a large, noticeable, old stain on it, and the man who served us had his pants slip down as he walked, so his boxer shorts were constantly visible. Mismatched tables and chairs, including chair cushions, outside on the terrace. Everything was in a mess. The food was incredibly expensive and bad. I had a farmer's breakfast that was swimming in grease, simply slapped onto the plate, with a small bowl of salad (in the grease) next to it, which was swimming in dressing, for €13.90. Tarte flambée with toppings that you had to search for was €14.90, and Cordon Bleu with fried potatoes was €23.90. The men's restroom was broken, so I had to go to the women's restroom. The stairs down seemed greasy. Soap (container from dm) just filled with water, toilet bowls all empty... I'm really struggling with the greasy farmer's breakfast. Sorry...but it's just not possible.

Everything tastes very bland. Grandma certainly wouldn't cook something like this. Leberkäse (meatloaf) is thin and hard. Fried potatoes are yellowish and completely flavorless. Pasta salad is watery and from a bucket. Schnitzel is thick and tough as leather. Tourist trap, but definitely not Grandma's kitchen!

Currywurst tasted like a toilet paper roll, the pizza margaritha was probably a frozen one from Aldi and the toilet looked like a bomb exploded in there. Avoid this place.

Super nice restaurant, away from the tourist crowds. Well-known dishes from "Grandma's Kitchen." Had a farmer's omelet. Wonderful! Just what you'd want! Fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, onions, bacon. Quickly served and super friendly!

You can choose to dine indoors or outdoors — and outdoors is definitely the better option if the weather allows. The traditional dishes are tasty and well-prepared. One staff member could have shown a bit more kindness to make the experience even better, like the others who were friendly and attentive.

The food was cold, fried potatoes with Fondor or Maggi. The Leberkäse (meatloaf) and Nuremberg sausages were of very poor quality. A disgrace. No one asked if the food was okay. When paying, I felt like a tip was expected.

I fondly remember my grandma. She didn't fry everything, though, or hide the sausages on her plate. And her food tasted really good.

My go to spot for German specialities, and a sucker for the cordon bleu. But what I’m blown away by time and time again is the fantastic service! Such friendly waiters that really make the experience lovely.

We had breakfast there and weren't satisfied at all. The music was way too loud, it smelled strongly of food/grease, and I found the price-performance ratio outrageous (€8.90 for a pre-baked roll, a small slice of salami that didn't even cover the roll, some butter, jam, and a small coffee). The coffee was so piping hot that you couldn't drink it for the first few minutes. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it, at least not for breakfast.

There's simply nothing good to say...the schnitzel was too small (about the size of a dog's face) straight from a hairdresser...the fried potatoes were mushy and small. The price/performance ratio is very different here...there were exactly three canned mushrooms in the mushroom cream sauce. The vegetable stir-fry was amazing, the "stir-fry" was one of those little brown oven dishes from the 80s (really reminds me of Grandma's)....it was an estimated 200g of mushy vegetables for a whopping €16! If the food had been good, I wouldn't have objected to the price...but here "Grandma" should have her great-grandma teach her how to cook again. I don't even want to start on the order and cleanliness of the restaurant and the restrooms.

Unfortunately, a bitter disappointment. I had high hopes for "Grandma's Kitchen" – down-to-earth, warm, customer-oriented. The reality was quite different. The service was inattentive and unfriendly; you felt more tolerated than welcomed. I found it particularly incomprehensible that, as a paying guest, you even have to pay €2 to use the restroom – that's simply unacceptable in a restaurant. I've rarely left a restaurant so annoyed. It's a shame about the actually nice idea – but that's not how you treat guests.

Discovered by chance: Oma Küche, cozy in a side street off Hohe Straße. The traditional, seasonal cuisine looked great at other tables. As a vegan, I only had salad, but the cozy, nostalgic decor and outdoor seating are great. Ideal for a drink and a break from the hustle and bustle.

The place doesn't look attractive, but the sausages we ordered (bratwurst and currywurst) tasted delicious, especially the one with cabbage. In addition, a cold beer and a nice waiter who speaks several languages! Prices are affordable.

So, when I think of Grandma's kitchen, I imagine good, homemade food. That wasn't the case. Unfortunately, the food wasn't tasty; the fried potatoes were anything but crispy, and the meatloaf and schnitzel weren't great either. The service was friendly, and everything went very quickly. The walk to the restroom was a bit of an adventure; the restrooms were piled high with boxes and other items. Not exactly inviting.

We took a day trip to Cologne today. Unfortunately, we went out to eat here. The Wiener Schnitzel with fried potatoes and Himmel und Ääd (spicy schnitzel) tasted absolutely terrible. Everything was swimming in oil, with no flavor at all. The rest of our visit to Cologne was somewhat marred by this. We felt nauseous after the meal. We hope we didn't catch anything. For €52, I don't want to get food poisoning. We'll never see this restaurant again.

Absolutely not recommended! Selling frozen pizza for €14 and marketing it as fresh pizza is a disgrace. The pizza tasted worse than the frozen pizza from Lidl. To make it look fresh, they simply spread arugula on top. The ambiance could also be improved. There was no space, you could hardly move or get up without disturbing the table or your neighbors. Not recommended, don't support this kind of rip-off!

We stopped by Oma's Küche to discover some snack-time specialties. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing on several levels. Let's start with the restrooms: given the establishment's image, we weren't expecting foul-smelling, dirty, and, above all, completely inaccessible restrooms for people with disabilities. A real accessibility problem, all the more regrettable since my elderly mother, who has a recognized disability of over 80%, was with us. Regarding our meal, we had opted for an omelet, which was supposed to be served with potatoes and salad. What a disappointment when it arrived: three tiny arugula leaves on top of the omelet, and burnt potato slices, which tasted unpleasant. My son couldn't eat his plate because the burning smell was so strong and off-putting. We asked for some bread, which clearly wasn't provided. A waiter was kind enough to get some... but he arrived at the end of the meal, so too late, although the gesture is noteworthy. After waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes to be served, we finally paid (55 euros for 3 omelets, 1 water, and two soft drinks). The waiter asked us if we'd like to leave a tip via the credit card terminal. We declined, given the quality of the service, which remains a perfectly legitimate choice. The reaction was completely inappropriate: he violently threw the receipt on the table, without a word or goodbye. Even more surprising, he had left his phone on our table... which I returned to him by calling him. No reaction, not even a thank you. In the end, this meal, supposed to be a pleasant break, generated a lot of stress and discomfort. It's hard not to notice the generally contemptuous behavior, as if our presence was a nuisance. We strongly felt a lack of consideration, particularly towards women, people of color, and people with disabilities. I strongly advise against this restaurant, not only for the quality of the service and food, but especially for the blatant lack of respect and humanity. It would be more than desirable for the establishment to rethink its approach to customer service. Others, in our position, would have reacted much less peacefully. But perhaps it's easier that way, when it's a group of women...

Discussing duty rosters in front of the audience was very unprofessional. Wilted salad, fried potatoes dripping in oil. Plates simply garnished with wilted herbs. Far too expensive. Mushroom schnitzel covered in mush. Not even close to worth €24.50. At most €14.50, not recommended.

A family run german restaurant the meatloaf was excellent

I ate here in Öln with my wife today. It was packed, so I waited 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The Coke Zero beforehand was OK. Ginger tea was just water with uncut ginger carelessly placed in the glass. My wife's meal was: fried potatoes with fried eggs. The fried potatoes were a little greasy, soft, and seasoned with paprika. It was like a pancake, quickly fried with lots and lots of oil. Heaven and earth was lukewarm mashed potatoes with limp onions and crispy black pudding, which was delicious. It also came with a small bowl of apple sauce. After I finished my plate because I was hungry, there was a puddle of grease on the plate. I don't really need more.

As soon as you enter, you can feel the loving design - as if you were sitting down in Grandma's living room. The menu is wonderfully down-to-earth: hearty dishes like at home, plus changing seasonal specialties with fresh ingredients. I can particularly recommend the homemade meatballs – a poem! And if you like, you can enjoy a freshly tapped Kölsch or a classic filter coffee - like before, only better. The service was warm, attentive and authentic - you immediately feel welcome. And best of all: the prices are absolutely fair for what you get. Conclusion: “Grandma’s Kitchen” is not a restaurant, but a feeling. If you like it nostalgic, tasty and cozy, this is the place for you. I'll definitely be back! 🥰😎✌️

We were warmly welcomed and served here and the food was also very good and plentiful. The gentleman who took our order etc. was really very nice and had the typical Cologne jeck in him. You knew you were in Cologne. Friendly, accommodating and funny.

The ambience is certainly a matter of taste – it is done in a “shabby chic” way, which I personally actually liked. Unfortunately, that was the only positive thing about my visit. The salad seemed old, the salad dressing tasted like a standard store-bought sauce. The “currywurst” turned out to be a normal bratwurst with pureed tomatoes and some curry powder – it was far from a real curry sauce. The fried potatoes were extremely greasy and soggy. Unfortunately, the prices were also exorbitant for this quality. My conclusion: Save yourself the money – cooking at home is more enjoyable.
