Olympia Restaurant in Emden

They charge foreigners different prices. We were given an English menu, but the prices on the bill were €10 higher. When we noticed the prices were different than we thought, we looked at the menu again. Then they exchanged glances and nervously said something like, "Are they checking the prices?" We explained that each item was about €3 more expensive than listed on the menu. They then said they had forgotten to update the prices. If prices are increased, they should inform customers before they order. It's not right to accept orders at a lower price and then charge €10 more when paying. They didn't even apologize and just said they had forgotten to update the prices. We were now obligated to pay the €10 higher price. I'm shocked to see this kind of treatment of international students. It's astonishing that restaurants like this still exist. The meat was tough.

Delicious food. For us, it's the best Greek restaurant in Emden. The men are always very satisfied with the generous portions, and the food is always perfectly cooked. The appetizer platter is also a must-try. We always enjoy coming here (or ordering takeout).

We were surprisingly able to get a table for two people without a reservation on Friday evening, September 26th. The restaurant was very busy and many orders had to be filled, but the service was very friendly and always had a friendly smile and a good sense of humor. We ordered bread with tzatziki for an appetizer and gyros with fries for the main course, which we drank with red wine and ouzo as a nightcap. Everything was absolutely fine and represented the value for money. We would be happy to come back next time we're in Emden.

The food is okay. The service, actually, is okay too. What was particularly unpleasant was that half an hour before the official closing time, I was told they were closing in five minutes.

Very, very good food, so tasteful. I keep coming back to this restaurant for the food and taste. I really recommend. Just keep in mind they accept cash only, no credit card.

The appetizer platter is highly recommended. Unfortunately, the meat was dry, the gyros was soggy and seasoned oddly. The rice was also very wet. There was no time between the appetizer and the main course.

Reading the reviews here, you can assume that the quality of the food varies greatly. My experience was as follows: We walked into the restaurant. At lunchtime, it seems you're only allowed to order from the lunch menu. I did that, and had a gyro with a skewer. When I got the salad, it seemed as if they had prepared it two hours in advance and put it in the refrigerator along with the dressing. This made the dressing taste watered down. In the meantime, I noticed that the staff were having a heated argument. Generally, you should never do this in front of guests, regardless of whether there's just one guest or the entire restaurant is full. Regarding the main course, I really wanted more. Unfortunately, only the skewer and the fries were good. The gyro was cut too thick for a proper gyro, was cold, tasted stale, and was greasy. The rice was also cold and served in a watery broth. The tzatziki is a matter of taste. Since the ambiance and online presence are absolutely top-notch, I'm just giving it 3 out of 5 stars. Personally, though, I wouldn't eat here again.

I often go for Greek food. The service was excellent. The staff was nice, friendly, and quick. The food itself was a bit overpriced. Everything was delicious. The bifteki, suflaki, suzuki, rice, and fries were amazing, but the gyro had no flavor and was very gristly. The salad was excellent.

A solid Greek restaurant in itself. The food was delicious and plentiful for the location and price—well, too much for me—but a few things were missing. The tzatziki was far too mild, and there was no alcohol for toasting at the end. I can recommend the chicken skewers; they were really delicious.

As a family of five, we visited the Olympia Restaurant on the market square in Emden and were bitterly disappointed. For three children's plates and two Greek specialties, we were charged over €5 for a small bowl of tzatziki and mayonnaise that we didn't even have. The fries, schnitzel, and fish sticks tasted of old grease and were inedible. The salad was old, the dressing dried out, and the beer tasted of dish soap. Special requests were refused on the grounds that the manager was in the restaurant. Later, it turned out that there was no manager at all, and the waiter was pretending to be the boss. No insight, no consideration, no apology, just cheeky excuses and absolute audacity. Conclusion: Miserable food, false statements, disrespectful treatment of guests, completely overpriced, and not recommended in any way.

We had a gyro platter. It was overflowing and very, very tasty. I would have preferred some coleslaw with the platter. I'm deducting a star for the service because both servers unfortunately ignored us and only responded when we shouted very loudly.

Without a doubt, the best Greek food I've ever had. The staff was extremely friendly, and the ambiance was simple yet very pleasant; you don't feel overwhelmed by the decor or lost in the empty space. All in all, it was almost a pleasant experience in itself. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food; it was very sparingly seasoned. The gyro was very fatty and stringy, not at all crispy. For me, it was a total letdown—a waste of money. The other meats were dry. There's no Metaxa sauce. We weren't offered ouzo, but that's not what you'd expect from a Greek restaurant. It's a shame; we can't recommend it.

Not recommended! The food wasn't tasty. The gyros was sloppy, greasy, and the skewers were dry and poorly seasoned. The portions were small. I asked the waiter about the bad food. The waiter then said we had eaten something, so we shouldn't complain. That wasn't nice. I barely ate anything at this restaurant. What a shame about what was otherwise a very nice day in Emden.

I had a wonderful evening at the Olympia restaurant yesterday! From the moment I set foot through the door I was warmly welcomed by the owner who was so friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, ideal for a relaxing evening. The food was simply delicious! I had the pork tenderloin (#33) which was perfectly seasoned and very flavorful. The starters like the tzatziki and the salad were also a dream. You can tell that the cooking here is done with a lot of love and fresh ingredients. I highly recommend this restaurant! The combination of excellent food and warm hospitality makes it a special place that you should definitely try. I'll definitely be back!

Everything about it is totally true, but unfortunately the food wasn't that tasty. The tzatziki really wasn't that tzatzikiy and the gyros was pretty greasy. But it could be even worse, so three stars are fair.

We ate there for the second time today. Ordered for 10 people. Food and service were okay. Unfortunately, no card payment is possible there. I find the explanation that there is no internet quite ridiculous.

No, the whole thing wasn't okay. The liver plate with fries wasn't great the onions were match and there was no mayonnaise. The kebab plate was also anything but good. I also didn't get any mayonnaise with the fries.

The food was ok, but not a highlight. The tzatziki that was provided tasted very weak,...like it came from a discount store!?! We rightly asked ourselves the question, how is it possible to put food on the table so quickly after ordering??? The gyro looked very much like it had already been cut and kept warm in a pan, as did the zuzuki. But what is absolutely not possible is for the cellar (owner?) to stand in the open door and let the cigarette smoke waft in. He went out after being asked! That's an impudence and an absolute no go!!!

We (3 people) spent the turn of the year 2024/2025 on a short vacation in Emden. On New Year's Day many restaurants were closed and so we got to the Olympia. We didn't regret it. The tzatziki, olives and pepperoni tasted as they should. The gratinated gyros were very tasty and rich. The Mykonos plate with grilled liver, gyros and meat skewers was delicious and the Syrtaki plate with gyros, meat skewers and 2 lamb chops left nothing to be desired for me. I would particularly like to mention the excellently grilled lamb chops. The salad that was served with it was fresh and the dressing was delicious. All dishes came with rice and chips. All in all, a recommended Greek restaurant that deserves 5 stars.

Mushroom cream sauce and gorgonzola sauce was a disgrace. It didn't taste like anything, just like the rice. More out of the bag than out of the tetrapak. I would have been happy to have a conversation with the chef, but unfortunately my personal criticism wasn't taken too seriously. Unfortunately, the waitress didn't have the attention span necessary to fully absorb our drinks. Too bad.

We had dinner with our friends at your place on Saturday. There's no star from me. I had lamb chops with fries and a starter salad and a portion of gorgonzola sauce. I also had 3 glasses of cola. The first cola tasted extremely strange. My friend then looked at the counter and noticed that many unfinished Coke bottles had been tipped together into glasses. Of course that went to the guest. And then to make all the misery not enough, about 45 minutes after eating I got cramps, diarrhea and had to throw up late into the night. We then had to go back to Oldenburg with our caravan in the early hours of the morning. My husband drove straight to the hospital with me. And what can I say? I have food poisoning. Since I only ate something there, it can only come from that.🤢 Just talked to our friends on the phone. They have also had stomach problems and diarrhea since yesterday.

Food super tasty. Unfortunately small portions… Sitting for a long time when you are the last table and constantly ordering more drinks is probably not welcome. You feel thrown out. Very unpleasant.

Our number 2 in Emden The restaurant is centrally located on the market square in Emden. The food was good, but unfortunately my souvlaki wasn't fried enough at the end of the skewer. Our platter for two people was plentiful and inexpensive. The service was nice and friendly, but not very attentive, empty glasses. Unfortunately my beer had a strange aftertaste. We will definitely come back, we could be tempted by more Greek starters. I also recommend making a reservation here, as it is already very full on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

We (couple) were there on September 10th, 2024 at 1930. Fast & courteous service, Ouzo with the starter, tasty and very plentiful food for €17 each, doggy bag no problem :-) We'll be happy to come back!!!

Unfortunately I have to deduct a star for the food. In my opinion the gyros was very fatty and coarsely cut. The skewer was OK and the Zuzuki was a bit small. The service was very friendly.

Rhodes plate, plenty of meat, normal side dishes, small salad. The meat was ok, the spice from the gyros is not my thing, it tastes slightly sweet. Otherwise the meat was a bit rubbery, but tasted okay Lt. Internet open continuously on Sundays, But that's not true, it's closed from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m

The platter for 2 people is well topped with meat. Chicken and pork were as expected, but unfortunately the gyros were partially burnt black. However, the lamb consisted of over 80% fat and bones. I wouldn't order again. The waitresses are friendly and you can't get dark wheat beer everywhere.

We had dinner with about 16 people. The waiting time until the food was served was about 45 minutes, which was too long. The meat was quite dark (burnt) and, like the rice, some of it was already cold. Fries very tasty. The staff seemed disinterested and didn't offer us ouzo. This was only donated upon request. Unfortunately no card payment possible. Everyone agreed that there are much better restaurants. We won't be coming back.

Like every year, the four of us spent a longer lunch break here. It was good that I made a reservation weeks ago because the restaurant is busy at lunchtime. -And rightly so, I think.- Attention, friendliness and delicious food impressed us again this time. Thanks for that...and: I'll reserve a table in time for the next dormouse.

We had dinner there in the evening on a recommendation. The staff welcomed you very friendly. The atmosphere is, let's say, rustic, but that doesn't detract from the atmosphere at all. We ate very, very well and plentifully there. The price is completely acceptable for 2 People with plenty of food on their plates (starter platter for the lady and grilled liver with onions, grilling liver so perfectly to the point, not everyone can do that) ouzo, wine and beer for just 60 euros. Great, we'll be back. At the end of August, the Duisburg angler colleagues will be there again, I think for the third time. Don't forget to reserve.

We had dinner there at the weekend (short vacation in Emden). Didn't make a reservation and got a table outside. Service was good and friendly. Food tasty and portion size OK. There was an ouzo with the drink (free). What wasn't mentioned and wasn't mentioned anywhere: ONLY CASH PAYMENT POSSIBLE!!!! So I had to go to the nearest ATM while my husband waited at the table. Sorry, I didn't think that was right. In this day and age, when many people hardly have any cash in their wallets, I don't find this customer-friendly.

It's really sad what we had to experience. This used to be our regular restaurant... We spontaneously decided to go out to eat at Olympia with our two children at 5:30 p.m. We were the first guests and were warmly welcomed as always. Since we didn't have a reservation, we were allowed to sit in the winter garden. However, it was very warm and stuffy there. After we tilted two small upper windows, someone came a few minutes later to close them again and said that there was a draft at the front. It doesn't matter whether our 2.5 year old daughter gets fresh air or not. But we had to and accepted it that way. After we ate the food, which was really tasty, it was time to pay. The employee came to our table without a bill and said: "That's 67.30 euros." I then rounded up to 70 euros and still asked for the bill. A short time later the bill followed with the statement: "You will get another euro back. I made a mistake." I then gave the one euro in addition to the tip. But when I looked at the bill a little later, an additional drink had been charged for just under 5 euros, which we never drank. Anything like that can happen and we are only human, but we were the first guests, the bill only came when we asked, first adding one euro, then deducting one too many drinks (and there were only four drinks in total for four people). This really gives me pause and that's why I decided to write this review and avoid this restaurant in the future. A real shame.

We arrived at 1:50 p.m. Open until 2.30 p.m., kitchen open until 2 p.m. Employee said kitchen closed. I wonder. Should the pub be based on the customer or something else. During the pandemic you complained that no one supported you, then many people helped and now when you are feeling a little better you don't care about the customers. What are your opening hours for? Get rid of them, you're doing what you want anyway. It may be that the food is good, but unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try it.
