Very nice service, ordered beef steak with cheese spaetzle, the steak was delicious, the cheese spaetzle, unfortunately a disaster, didn't taste like anything, not even like cheese or anything else. We were offered an espresso as compensation because the kitchen was of the opinion that there had been no complaints about it today. All well and good but if two people say the same thing I think the kitchen should also accept this criticism.

We asked for a table, and the waitress told us to just choose one ourselves. We sat there waiting for someone to bring us a menu or take our order for over 15 minutes. After going to the front desk to ask for a menu or for someone to stop by our table, another 25 minutes passed before we finally got a menu. Not even 30 seconds later, the waitress returned and asked if we were ready to order. We said we needed a few minutes, and she said she would come back. Another 20 minutes passed, and she never did. At that point, we just got up and left. 1 star for being amateurs.

I have been a guest at Ochsen Willi for over 20 years - a restaurant that was once one of the best addresses for traditional German cuisine in Stuttgart. Unfortunately, I have to realize that it is now only a shadow of its former self. The menu hasn't changed much creatively over the years. On the one hand, this is not necessarily a negative thing, as there are only a few restaurants left that offer classic German dishes of solid quality. But a careful modernization or at least a seasonal addition would be desirable. However, what disappoints me most is the lack of care in the kitchen. In recent visits I have asked several times to have my meat fillet "Bleu" served - and yet every time it was brought to the table well done. After several attempts, I gave up and decided not to return the dish. But that's exactly what shouldn't happen in a restaurant of this category. If a guest expresses a clear preference, this should be respected. The fact that the service and the kitchen no longer work with the precision and passion they once did is unfortunately also reflected in the declining number of guests. This is unfortunate, because Willi the Ochsen was once an institution. It would be nice if the restaurant could return to the quality of previous years - not only by preparing the dishes in a technically clean manner, but also by paying more attention to the wishes of the guests. Not everyone wants a “sole of a shoe” on their plate. There is still potential in this restaurant, but it desperately needs a refresh - both in the kitchen and in the service. I hope that those responsible will recognize this wake-up call and make Ochsen Willi what it once was: a reliable address for excellent German cuisine in Stuttgart.

It was my birthday and my friend recommended this place. From the entrance we were welcomed by a nice lady and led us to a perfect corner that was bright and comfortable. Saturday March 22, 2025 The taste of the food was okay 3.4 out of 5 stars. The ambience outside deserves 3 out of 5 stars, there is still room for improvement here. The service actually deserves 0 stars, but I still gave it 1 star. Starting with an eternal wait until someone came, even though the server was walking around outside several times (and not serving any guests). Then the unfriendliness personified. I haven't experienced something like that in a long time. As a customer, I expect to be served in a friendly manner. That's the least you can expect. The drinks took a full 10 minutes with little or hardly any activity. Then the food came to the table cold. At least the roast pork and fries should have been warm. Half was forgotten. As a host, you earn the most with drinks... When the drinks are empty, as a good waitress, you ask the guest if you can bring anything else. Error display. The crowning finale... We wanted to take the generous portion of salad with us. We were also given a mini plastic bowl, which was just enough for half of the leftover salad. A 2nd bowl was provided for an additional €1.50. On the one hand, we both know that leftovers in the kitchen are repackaged accordingly and you don't let the guest do this. To charge €3.00 for two mini plastic bowls is outrageous, both together cost €0.15. There was no tip for this overall service and that means something to me. The last time this negative record occurred was over 10 years ago. So definitely not a recommendation.

To start with something positive, the service was good. Even though the restaurant was pretty much full at our time of arrival, they still managed to give us a table. We didn't have to wait long for the waiter to take our orders and the food got served fast. The atmosphere was nice, cozy and typical German. I ordered the spareribs and the presentation of the dish was very boring. It was just a plate and a rib where they just put some sauce on. The sauce smelled like urine, luckily it didn't taste like it, the flavour was not bad. The ribs weren't very tender and quite dry and definitely not worth the price.

Goed there spontaneously as a group and actually got a seat and it was really well attended. The service was really on point, the drinks were picked up and brought quickly. The food came at the same time for everyone so we could eat together. I can give a clear recommendation and it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a reservation. Gladly again.

I ate at Ochsen Willi for the first time. For lunch I had spare ribs with baked potatoes and for dessert I had shredded Kaiserschmarn. It was super tasty and the portions were quite large. At the beginning I was unsure whether I should pay a few euros more for all-you-can-eat spare ribs, but the portion was actually too much. 😅 Respect to those who manage two portions of spare ribs at Ochs'n Willi. The dessert was also great. The prices were quite high, but given the quality and size of the dishes and the location of the restaurant, that is understandable and to be expected. Only the drinks could be a little cheaper, or at least if I spend 4 or 5 euros on them, especially for simple things like cola, juices or other soft drinks, the quantity of them could be a little larger. The restaurant itself can only be recommended.

It's delicious. The interior atmosphere feels traditional. I was worried after seeing some of the dissatisfied reviews among the many reviews. Fortunately, it was a very good experience. The menu is difficult because it is in German, but there is an English menu in the back and the main server dressed in black is very friendly and professional. Thanks to this, I was completely satisfied with the menu selection, meal, and payment. I was satisfied that Schweinhaxen was not salty compared to other places, but it was a bit greasier and richer in flavor. If you think of it as pork soup or pork belly, it has a taste somewhere between the smell and the flavor. It may vary from person to person, but I found it to be flavorful and very delicious. The skin was really crispy and the sauce was good. However, the potato salad on the side... didn't match the bread or rice cake-like texture. The sauerkraut was nice and crunchy like a crusty crust, and the spaetzle was also good to go with the Haksen. The maultashe was soft and delicious and the broth was good. The Dinkelaker was good and the witbier was also delicious. I will take good memories with me.

Excellent Swabian restaurant. Top service. The food is excellent and the menu is extensive. There are typical Swabian recipes and more general southern German choices. The spare ribs were delicious, as was the Stuttgarter Platte. An excellent place to choose is you are hungry in the city centre.

Traditional, Swabian, home-style food in a nice atmosphere right in the center of Stuttgart. Hosts who know how gastronomy works. Sufficient staff, qualified, friendly, fast. Food was served super quickly. Best potato salad ever. Many regular guests also speak for themselves. I was also impressed by the nicely designed outdoor smoking area, protected from the rain and equipped with patio heaters. The mini huts for eating in front of them are also very nice. We visited the Ochsn Willi because of the good location. Waiters friendly and quick. Drinks and soup arrived quickly. The main course shouldn't be too rich for people over 60 in the evening, so I ordered pork knuckle meat with potatoes. Portion was large, quality was poor, everything was swimming in fat. Even if a main course only costs 23, the quality should be acceptable. Can't recommend the house.

We always go to Ochsen to order a steak. Over time, 2 steaks with a side dish and spritzer now cost around €95. If Ochs'n Willi continues to continually increase prices, we will get out. The price is the upper limit of what you can ask for or is actually already too high. Current interim status 2025-01-19: The fillet now costs 35 euros. Since you can no longer increase the price, the steaks are now getting smaller and smaller. Today they were particularly small. I will go and watch the drama again. If the steaks are so tiny again, I'll simply forget about the Ochsn Willi.

The atmosphere was good, with very tasteful interiors. The waiters were polite, but didn't take much time. They just wanted to take our food order and then quickly leave. I would have preferred it if they had given us a little advice and a more friendly conversation. The food was OK. I ordered cheese spaetzle, but maybe that wasn't the right choice for me. They tasted too strongly of egg, which wasn't quite to my taste. On a positive note, the food was served very quickly and everything went smoothly. However, I wanted to take the rest of my food with me and had to pay 1.50 euros for a plastic bowl, which I find unusual - something like this is usually offered for free. All in all, it's a nice place to spend a few hours with friends while enjoying delicious Swabian food.

We went to Ochs'n Willi for the first time today on the recommendation of a friend. Unfortunately we were all disappointed! The waiter was unfriendly, impatient and more than inattentive! The cheese pätzle were really bland and we didn't taste much of the cheese either! The breaded steak strips tasted like old deep fryer grease! The tables are so close together that you have to hear the conversations of the other guests! It really seems to be geared towards tourists, everyone should be processed quickly and cheaply...at least that's the impression we got!!!

Spontaneously chosen as a place to eat. Got a table straight away without waiting (1530 p.m.). Service very friendly and quick. Special requests are uncomplicated and 100% successfully fulfilled. Food was served in an excellent time (10-12 minutes after ordering), salad plate arrived after just a few minutes. Two people each for the "Slim Line" - good meat, lots of fresh salad, delicious baked potatoes. All in all, absolutely recommended. Great value for money. Service 5/5. Will definitely stop by again next time we visit Stuttgart! Be sure to order after your meal: Affogato al Caffè.

A must after strolling around Stuttgart. We've already sat in the Fössle, both 2 and 6 of us. It's so cozy, cozy and warm in there. Salt buffet is enough for two plates, otherwise you won't be able to eat the main course. Buffet is always listed and all salads are always fresh. We were never concerned about the taste of the food, very tasty local cuisine. Thanks to the team for the quick service and without a table reservation, we were seated at a table within a maximum of 20 minutes of waiting time. Keep it up.

So, the food was very tasty. I really liked it, but there was a problem, when we went into the restaurant, no one said anything to us about whether there was a place for us, but then my mother went to a man and said that we had one want to have space. But he said: "Immediately" because he didn't have time, but we waited ten minutes until someone came to us. It was so rude of them. So what I can say to you is that the food is very tasty, tastes really good, but the service is bad. The parking spaces, there were almost no parking spaces, what can I say about that? And you had to pay extra, so probably 5 to 7 €, you would have to pay per hour, even if you eat in the restaurant, and pay there. We paid around €200 in the restaurant because the food was really expensive. But even the dishes, which were made very simply, came at a very high price. But the atmosphere in the restaurant was very good. It was really very comfortable and nice because, for example, the music was playing and I really liked it. So what I want to say is: you can go somewhere else and not spend so much money on such simple dishes. You can make this yourself at home, and I'm sure it will taste and look 100% better than here, in this restaurant!

The four of us had dinner yesterday. Our waiter was super nice and also great. Everything is tip top. The food was also delicious (Stuttgarter Pfännle) but for me personally there was a bit of meat. This is the first time I am writing a review about a restaurant, and it's because I’ve never felt this unpleasant before, even after visiting countless restaurants across 18 countries. While I visit restaurants to pay for and enjoy meals, the greatest satisfaction or happiness comes from the friendliness of the staff rather than the taste of the food or the atmosphere. Conversely, the rudeness of serving staff can overshadow all the positive aspects and even leave a negative impression of the city or country visited. Unfortunately, as I don’t know his name, I must describe him by his appearance. There was one staff member—tall, older-looking, wearing glasses, and bald—who displayed an utterly shocking level of rudeness. He seemed to direct his stress from being busy into aggressive language towards customers. All I did was say "Excuse me" to him as he passed by, and he loudly repeated several times that he was too busy and that I should wait quietly for my designated waiter instead of talking to him. Even the assigned waiter was far from friendly. It’s deeply regrettable that my first visit to Stuttgart, which began with excitement, ended with such an unpleasant memory because of this restaurant. It has left me with a bitter impression of the city.

What I would do differently with Willi the ox Ochsen Willi – the name alone sounds like a mixture of rustic charm and a farm sitcom with the cows laughing in the background. But honestly, if I were to take over the shop, I could give Willi the ox some legs (metaphorically, of course - or not, depending on the menu planning). Here is my plan: 1. The decoration – from “chicken coop” to “Instagram temple” The current facility of the Ochsen Willi? Looks like someone took the 80s cowshed and said, “Yeah, that’s fine!” Rustic wooden benches that squeak as soon as you sit on them and decorations that you would expect to find in a hobby hunter's garage. My idea: • Cowbells remain, but only as chandeliers. And with LED light. • Each dish comes with a small bale of hay as a base because it is rustic and modern. • Instead of a portrait of Willi (why does he look so grim?), there is a huge wall with a laughing ox giving a thumbs up. Branding, people! 2. The menu – From “ox on a spit” to “ox on a treadmill” The menu at Ochsen Willi? Very… “down to earth”. In other words: mountains of meat, as if the next ice age were tomorrow. That's cool, but where are the innovative ideas? My idea: • An ox wok, where the cook flambés the meat at the table - with a flamethrower. • Vegetarians? No problem: A plate called “The Lonely Ox” – just side dishes, but served in a mini pitchfork. • The highlight: Ochsen Willi’s Running Beef – a treadmill on which various pieces of meat pass by while guests grab them with barbecue tongs. Sushi was yesterday. 3. Personnel – From “Farm Look” to “Netflix Series” The waitress at Ochsen Willi wears leather pants and blouses? Nice, but a bit predictable. We need a concept that hits. My idea: • Every waiter wears an ox horn headband. Why? Because it's epic. • Instead of “Can I bring anything else?” they say: “Meh… um, I mean: what can it be?” • For special occasions: An employee in a full ox costume brings the food to the table - but only after briefly buffing the guests. 4. Entertainment – ​​From “Silence while eating” to “Ox in the spotlight” Folk music is currently playing in the background? Boring. Anyone who comes to Ochsen Willi wants to experience something. My idea: • Ox Karaoke: Anyone who eats a burger in less than 10 minutes can sing “Cowboy and Indians” – using a plastic cow as a microphone. • Ox poker: Guests bet on how many portions another guest will eat. The winner gets a piece of meat... or a salad, depending on your willingness to take the risk. • Willis weekly races: Two remote-controlled ox figures race through the restaurant. The winner decides who gets the last dessert. 5. The name – From “Ochsen Willi” to “Ochsen… WOW!” The name “Ochsen Willi” has charm, no question about it. But why not add a touch of drama and glamor? My suggestions: • Ochsen Willi Deluxe – sounds like a burger, but is a lifestyle. • The Wild Oxperience – English makes everything chic. • Ochsen Willi 2.0 – because we live in the future. Conclusion: There would be no room for mediocrity with Ochsen Willi. Instead of just being an inn, the store would become the ultimate ox experience. The guests don't just go home - they gallop out enthusiastically. And who isn't coming? Well, he probably didn't hear the cow. What do you say? Should I take over?

Don’t expect to be treated as a customer if you are not German/ white. At first the waitress told us to go away because there was no space left. And then she told us the wait was 30 minutes which we then agreed to wait for. Not even 5 minutes later she comes out and tells us our table is ready. No one would take our order no matter how much we asked or made eye contact. Waiter who took our order slapped the coasters on our table like we owed him money. When the food came he pushed everything on our table while we were moving other things to make space. Throughout the whole service he didn’t say a single word to us but was friendly explaining the dishes and wines to other German/ white tables. Don’t come here if you are not German/ white. Food was pretty decent though.

We have been visiting Ochs'n Willi at irregular intervals for several years and have always received good service. But we have never had to experience what we experienced today in any other restaurant. The waiter stubbornly refused to serve us a giant knuckle with bread and a separate salad (explicitly not as part of the same dish). A combination that we were last able to order in exactly this form on November 9th, 2024 without any problems (see photo). He wanted to serve us two half knuckles instead, but we didn't want to order them, knowing that it would be too much for us and that they couldn't be found on the menu either. Even after a lengthy discussion, the waiter showed no understanding that we would like to decide our own order, so we ultimately had to leave the restaurant without eating. We cannot tolerate such coercive behavior from a waiter and are therefore disappointed. We therefore cannot make any recommendations and advise against a visit.

We were there last from work, 10 people. I was particularly impressed by the food. I ordered the sour tripe with fried potatoes and can only recommend it, even if it takes some effort :). The food was very nicely prepared and it was a lot for just under €15. So great value for money. This also applies to the other dishes that were ordered at our table, from butter schnitzel to roast roast to Maultaschen. All dishes looked very tasty. A colleague complained that the selection wasn't that big, but I think it's good. Better quality than quantity. The friendly waitress, a young woman, was also very personable.

Overjoyed, we were guided to the Naturfreundehaus, which we hadn't seen before. We sat out on the balcony with our four-and-a-half-year-old son and our grandmother. By the time I realized it was self-service, it was 2:05 p.m. I went to the counter to order, but had to wait four minutes because—I guess the manager—she had to talk to an employee about who was working at what time. When they finally arrived, it was 2:09 p.m., and they very rudely explained to me that food was only available until 2:00 p.m. When I politely asked if there was anything else like a sausage salad available, I was told that this wasn't possible because they had to prepare things... Hospitality is wonderful, but here we felt like unwelcome intruders. The Katzenbacherhof was happy to have us. The Naturfreundehaus Vaihingen won't be seeing us again!
