Ochsengärtle in Waldachtal

I've been to this quaint restaurant with its beautiful beer garden twice now—simply a place where you feel at home. On my second visit, I briefly mentioned to the owner that things hadn't gone quite as planned the first time, and she reacted so warmly, apologized, and even bought us a shot. This time, the food was really good, and we had a nice chat with the owners. If you're looking for a place where you don't just eat but feel welcome, go here.

Today we had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Ochsengärtle, which exudes an ambiance you don't often find. Swabian historic architecture, furnished with a Black Forest flair, welcomes guests and invites them to linger. Thus, the Ochsengärtle is in tune with the times. The food is typically rustic, delicious, high-quality, and very good value for money, and is well worth recommending. The service, especially that of the owner, who was confident, friendly, and with a true Swabian sense of humor, rounds off the very positive overall impression of the Ochsengärtle. We will be back, and a reservation is essential if you want to enjoy the special ambiance.

We happened upon the Ochsengärtle by chance during our rehab stay nearby, and we were extremely pleased. Everything here is lovingly designed, the location is fantastic, and it's also lovely to sit outside. The owner is very friendly and takes great care of her guests. The food was excellent. We'd love to come back. Thank you very much.

I was there today for the first and last time. Service was okay, although some things were forgotten or brought incorrectly. Too few staff, which was overwhelming at times. And to top it all off, I wanted to pay by card. I had specifically checked the website for payment options; it said you could pay by card. When I paid, the real shocker came: it was only €50 or more. Guys, that's just not possible. As a single person, that's outrageous. So then you shouldn't be offering card payments.

Such a beautiful beer garden, such a beautiful restaurant, but the service is disastrous. It's best to switch to self-service in the beer garden.

Today was NOT our first time at Ochsengärtle. It wasn't busy! We sat there, even though we were asked to order, and waited for over 30 minutes. We were just about to get up and leave when someone came to take our order. The food came quite quickly. However, one dish was completely forgotten. After asking again if the food was still coming, the lady said NO, nothing else had been ordered. But when she took the dish, she asked us something else. We really like it there. And so far, we've never had anything to complain about. But today we were really disappointed. We probably won't be going there again anytime soon.

ABSOLUTE RUDENESS! NO sausage salad?!? With such a small menu, and then no sausage salad... Disappointing... I will NEVER eat here again. Absolutely rude!!! And then only one server for almost 50 people??? We waited forever for our drinks... What's going wrong here? And the day before the holiday... I can't put my horror into words! The ambiance is actually really nice, but the rest isn't up to scratch!

This was our first time at Ochsengärtle. We arrived around 3 p.m. and had no trouble getting a delicious lunch. The service was very friendly, even though we had to change seats twice due to a thunderstorm. It's a cozy, atmospheric beer garden. It's a bearable place.

Unfortunately, I can't rate the food because after waiting 20 minutes, no one came. We got up and left. The location itself is very nice, but the service was completely awful. A shame!!!

Unfortunately, we waited a good half hour and were finally able to place our order after asking. They told us we'd have to be patient with the food, but we should have been patient when we ordered. After 1.5 hours, the food finally arrived, without an apology. It was okay. But we won't be going back. The service was simply chaotic.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend the Ochsengärtle – especially not for a special occasion like a wedding! My sister and her husband celebrated there with their immediate family after their civil wedding. Despite prior arrangements with the landlady and repeated confirmation of the correct date, nothing was prepared on the day of the celebration, as the celebration was scheduled for the following day. A guest arrived at the restaurant early and was shocked to discover: no tables set, no wedding decorations, and strangers in the dining room. The first guests to arrive quickly got to work: setting the tables, setting the table, decorating, and placing name cards according to the previously discussed seating plan. At the same time, everything was quickly prepared outside for the champagne reception, so that the already arriving wedding party and the bride and groom could stay outside as long as possible so that everything could be finished inside. The food was served as agreed, even though the dessert hadn't set yet. The food was truly delicious – I don't want to disparage that with my review. The waitress was very attentive. The billing process was disappointing: The bride and groom showed up at the agreed time – the hostess wasn't there. After an hour of waiting, they left without having done anything. Later that evening (!), they were called and asked to come back – the monthly closing was imminent. Here, too, the hostess showed absolutely no insight into the fact that she had simply made a mistake. In addition, schnapps was billed for that hadn't been consumed. Apparently, it was "seen" that several guests had more than one schnapps – which isn't true, and we know that some guests didn't have any schnapps (including breastfeeding mothers). If only the hostess were as conscientious with the calendar entries as she is with monitoring schnapps consumption... Conclusion: The food was truly delicious – but anyone planning a special day should rely on a more professional and reliable team. The disappointment on what was supposed to be a wonderful day was unfortunately immense.

We came across the Ochsengärtle by chance. What a positive surprise: a beautiful outdoor area, modern rustic interior. The food offers so many delicious options, except for vegans (no dishes at the time of the visit), that I would have liked to eat my way through the menu. My Strasbourg sausage salad with fried potatoes was great, as was the beer with it. A thoroughly nice family business. I can absolutely recommend the beer garden. If I'm in the region again, I'll be happy to come back.

Beautiful beer garden in the middle of Waldachtal-Tumlingen. Service was extremely friendly despite the slight language barrier. The map is very small and clear. Unfortunately, we were not impressed by the quality of the food, nor did we enjoy it. It was the last visit for us.

Very very bad service!!!! The service staff were completely overwhelmed, unfriendly and had little idea! Everything was very, very chaotic... we were served incorrectly and then the reaction was unfriendly! However, the food was delicious and the location was really beautiful! It's a shame that you're ruining your image because of the poor service...

Wow! 🤩 Great restaurant with very tasty food in an unbeatably cozy atmosphere with very friendly service! Fantastically landscaped beer garden that invites you to linger in the summer. Good value for money for us! We definitely recommend a visit to this house!

Unfortunately that was nothing! We were at the Ochsengärtle on April 12, 2025. The ambience is really nice, but....... We actually waited an hour and a half for our food. The service staff, which in our opinion was far too few for the number of guests, seemed completely overwhelmed. When the food finally came, three dishes were cold, the rest were ok. We complained about it, the landlady apologized and there was a schnapps or liqueur for everyone. We thought that was good. Ultimately, that doesn't change the overall impression.

Thanks. Unfortunately it was nothing... The food was really okay. The meatballs taste okay and the rest of the table was also happy with the food. But!!!! Your toilet stinks up the entire restaurant. This wasn't just a one-day phenomenon, but when we made the reservation on site, it was already like that. (Observed for several days) The problem can really be gotten under control. You really lose your appetite! I wanted to give you a chance via email before, but unfortunately you didn't take advantage of it. Hence this review! The really beautiful ambience is completely undermined by the disgustingly smelly toilet. No matter how hard you try, as long as you don't get it solved you'll feel like you're eating in a toilet. Shouldn't be a topic that needs to be discussed, especially in a restaurant! Your customer service also leaves a lot to be desired, as there was no response at all via email. Rarely experienced like this, unfortunately!

Disappointing experience - poor service and food Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant was very disappointing. The service was inattentive - we were ignored and given incorrect orders. The food itself was of poor quality and we had severe stomach problems after eating it. A restaurant should stand for good service and tolerable food, but neither was the case here. Based on this experience, we cannot make a recommendation. One star too many

Were guests at the Ochsengärtle today and we heartily give it 5 stars. Yesterday when we made the reservation, they were received very friendly and our little dog was no problem at all. When we arrived today we were greeted very friendly by the waitress and the boss. Very warm and above all honest! The food itself tasted delicious; we had cheese spaetzle, schnitzel and roast ox. When I had questions about the cheese spaetzle, the boss personally came to the table (since my wife has a lot of allergies). The roast ox tasted like grandma used to make and the schnitzels came out of the pan deliciously. The side salads were visually beautifully presented and tasted as delicious as they looked. All in all, we had a wonderful time with very tasty dishes and always attentive service! We would like to thank you for the great time and wish you many more successful years. Unfortunately, honest restaurants like this are becoming increasingly rare.

Unfortunately we were disappointed, we had made reservations for dinner but we didn't get around to it. Nobody came to take the food order. After waiting for almost an hour, we left the restaurant again.

Went for lunch today. Food was good, the plates were nicely warmed up. The waitress was very friendly and asked if everything was OK. The room was lovingly decorated...according to the season...We wish you all the best for the New Year 2025.

The restaurant may be quite nice and offer good food - but if you order a table for 8 people over the phone at 7 p.m. after a 10km journey, you are turned away on the grounds that everything is full, there is probably something wrong with the management not - in any case you have 8 fewer customers and 1 star is actually way too much👎😡👎

A wonderful evening in a great atmosphere and first-class service. What they did is not a given. There was no onion roast on the menu. When we asked the boss, we suddenly had 4 onion roasts in front of us. Incredibly good. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

Welcome to friends is the motto of the Ochsengärtle. And that's exactly how it is! It was our first time there and we were welcomed like regular guests. In terms of service, friendliness and ambience, this restaurant is hard to beat. The menu offers something for everyone, we really enjoyed it. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Such a lovingly furnished restaurant, super nice furnishings and decorative details. Everyone at our table had very tasty, plentiful and wonderfully prepared food. Everyone was very friendly. Mega beer garden... beautiful. Great food, great ambience. Keep it up, you're doing great work. However, we realize afterwards that we were tricked with the Italian hazelnut schnapps (which we personally buy in Italy...). (We bought 1 bottle for three times the price). You can buy this in retail stores for little money. What a shame for this aftertaste!

A beautiful place in Tumlingen. Very lovingly designed, great beer garden, beautiful building in hut style. Small menu, but something for everyone! Good quality of food and a really great side salad. Unfortunately I can only give 2 stars for the service because it took far too long for us to place our order and finally pay. The waiting time for the drinks to arrive was also too long. The time until the food was served was okay. If the service and counter were better, you could make more sales and… you would get full marks.

Absolutely beautiful there, everything tastefully chosen, birdsong in the ladies' toilet, the toilet door made from real wood, great idea! Food delicious, cappuccino. Wonderful, the beer was poured cleanly. We were very satisfied, felt comfortable and recommend a visit there. PS: the video was made late in the evening, all the guests were already gone.😂

A little insider tip for fans of a nice atmosphere and good food. We were at the Ochsengärtle on the recommendation of friends and can only praise this restaurant and recommend a visit. Very nicely laid out outdoor area but also good seating with a nice atmosphere inside in the guest room. The menu is manageable, but there is everything that pleases the eye! We stuck with the sausage salad and the tarte flambée. Also important: Very friendly and competent service!

Basically, the Ochsengärtle is a very nice beer garden. Great ambience, very tasty food with a great price/performance ratio. Unfortunately, we ended up having to wait over 60 minutes for four espressos and the bill, despite two personal requests/reminders. As good as it started, it ended badly.

We've been to you several times and today I finally have to give a few stars. As always, we were very satisfied and felt very comfortable. It's super cozy, very lovingly designed, the girls in service are always friendly and have a smile on their faces, the food was, as always, very good. The Ochsengärtle is a real insider tip. We would never have expected such a great restaurant in the rather staid-looking Tumlingen. The operators really put a lot of effort into creating a nice ambience. There is an outdoor area that is almost park-like with nice tables, fountains and a koi pond. Glass sliding doors lead into the rustic barn-style interior. The waitresses are smart and on the ball. Everyone will find something on the menu, meat lovers and vegetarians. There are also snacks and children's plates. I didn't see any soup, but let's stay on the carpet. I found the Christmas fairy lights, the thick red candles and the illuminated star decorations a bit strange - not really suitable for the end of June. We had dinner there with friends today and we all loved it. We will definitely be back soon!

It's a shame that the food is so bland and expensive in this beautiful atmosphere. The schnitzels were dry, as well as fries, no garnish, sauce...the offer is regional, but not at all creatively designed...unfortunately far too expensive!! A very disappointing evening :-(((

We celebrated our confirmation here on April 14, 2024. We chose the food as a buffet. Everything was great. And since we were more than lucky with the weather, the champagne reception was already served in the beer garden.

We celebrated our civil wedding here in February 2024 with 30 people. From the reservation to the preliminary meeting and the party itself, everything was very pleasant, reliable and very helpful. We and our guests felt very comfortable here. A painting table with pens and sheets of paper was set up for the little guests. For the entire package (food, drinks, etc.) the price was more than okay. All of our guests were completely impressed by the service and the location and will definitely be happy to come back. We can highly recommend it.

Went to the Ochsengärtle for the first time today. About the “Swabian Week”. The food was delicious, the service was super nice and friendly. The appearance of the Ochsengärtle is a place where you immediately feel at home. Four-legged friends are also very welcome if they are well behaved. The Ochsengärtle won our hearts today and we will definitely come back often. Thank you very much and please keep it up.

We were there with 8 people on February 3rd. to visit. Great ambience, very nice service and very good food. We all ate different dishes and were all satisfied and full. Only recommended!

Ein urgemütliches Lokal. Innen sieht es sehr schön aus, mit dem ganzen alten Balken, die aus einem alten Haus kommen, und liebevoll aufgearbeitet wurden. Im Sommer kann man auch draußen sitzen. Das Personal ist super freundlich. Das essen ist sehr lecker . Portionen sind ausreichend. Das Preis Leistung Verhältnis stimmt. Wir kommen garantiert wieder. Dieses Restaurant ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Ich kann das Restaurant nur empfehlen.

Wir waren mit 10 Personen da, Adventszeit, Atmosphäre mit Schnee und Lichtern top, Glühwein draußen getrunken, solange haben 50 Leute drinnen ihr Essen bekommen und dann gings bei uns auch schnell. War sehr lecker - tolle Location mit sehr netten Service.

Manche der Bewertungen hier kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Wir haben dem Ochsengärtle einen spontanen Besuch zum Mittagessen abgestattet und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Schöne, moderne und sehr gemütliche Einrichtung die alt und neu perfekt kombiniert. Der Gastwirt empfing uns mit offenen Armen und war sehr freundlich, ebenso wie unsere Bedienung im Anschluss. Der Kaminofen erwärmte den Gastraum perfekt und schuf eine tolle Atmosphäre. Das Essen war sehr lecker & reichhaltig und kam sehr heiß an (worauf man uns extra hinwies sonst hätte man sich die Hände verbrannt 🙈). Wir konnten uns zudem ganz normal unterhalten ohne das dies alle mitbekamen (was hier ja auch der ein oder andere behauptet). Parkmöglichkeiten sind genug vorhanden, Zahlung per Karte auch möglich. Für Kinder gibt es eine extra Spielebox einfach nachfragen. Tipp an den Gastgeber: Sonntag Mittag noch richtigen Kuchen / Torte da zu haben finden wir im Schwarzwald eine tolle Idee :) Das hätten wir durchaus auch gegessen! ☺️ Und ein paar zusätzliche Garderobenhacken wären zudem auch toll 😊
