The restaurant has a great view and friendly service, but the food is disappointing. The menu is very limited, and the dishes lack flavor and quality. It’s a nice spot for a drink, but not a good choice for dining.

In November we were able to celebrate our wedding here as a private group with 75 guests - not really a classic wedding location but the perfect choice for us at this time of year. The view is great and the space was perfect for this number of guests. The roof terrace offered the opportunity to cool down a bit in between. Apart from that, the Obendrüber team is simply great: the arrangements in advance were clear, uncomplicated and above all: friendly and relaxed - something that we had missed at other classic wedding locations. The process was clarified quite quickly, the menu was created especially for us based on our preferences and season and we were also allowed to taste and select wines in advance. At the end, appetizers were served as a flying buffet (the absolute highlight for our guests), which was very tasty and cozy when you arrived. The 3 different main courses (meat, fish and vegan) were simply excellent and the dessert buffet and the drinks were also absolutely great. So not only were we on cloud 9 anyway, but also from a culinary point of view. The service was always super friendly, warm and immediately available. Whenever we had a request, we were able to contact the team - if they didn't even ask us beforehand whether they could do something for us. At the end, the team packed everything up for us so that all we had to do was pick up our decorations and we could go to sleep quickly - what more could you want? With this in mind: Thank you very much to the whole team! Especially Uta and Adrian (who are now at Butter & Blume) for the great preparation. As well as Olaf and especially Tehreem, who was also responsible for the preparation and worked with us through and solved every chaos that we brought with us. And of course to the whole team for their dedicated work! We'll be back soon!

Nice view, good food, relatively expensive

Food (Tim) absolutely the best I have ever eaten. Service (Lara) great service, super friendly.

The menu is nice and clear, but filled with delicious things. Here you pay a little more for good cuisine. Gnocchi with truffle was excellent, as was the meat. There is only a deduction for ambience, as a bright light from the side illuminated us from above (spots), completely unnecessary and you don't want to have that in your face in the evening. I'll definitely go there again and see if the lighting concept can be revised. Waiter was A1, attentive and pleasant.

Today I had lunch at the überdrüber again and was again very positively impressed by the food and service.

Overwhelmed service, long waiting times. We quickly decided against the café and left after a drink and an hour of waiting. There wasn't breakfast until five to 11...

We were there a few times and the restaurant always impressed with its location and great view. Unfortunately, the service was always overwhelmed very quickly as soon as the restaurant was busier. (Other places do this better) Unfortunately, a service worker shot the bird today, so we won't be coming anymore. Today (12/30/24 - afternoon) it was very full again. We waited at the entrance for the seating to be assigned. After several service staff passed us without speaking to us (not even a "someone is coming soon"), we dared to take a step in to make ourselves more present. (And to make room for the people who were about to leave) Entering was enough for a waitress to insult us in a derogatory manner. Probably assuming we wouldn't hear them. When asked that we had heard her, she also became rude. We then waived the allocation of space and left. Regardless of whether there is stress at the moment, guests should not be treated like this in any restaurant. This also ruins your mood at the clothing store that goes with it.

Restaurant in the Henschel and Ropertz department store in Darmstadt city center. I hadn't been here for many years. In fact, the view across the square to the museum is impressive. The quality of the food and drinks is really good. Service is ok.

A beautiful restaurant above the rooftops of Darmstadt that impresses with a breathtaking view and a stylish ambience. The service staff is extremely warm, attentive and always friendly. You can feel that the team is passionate about what they do and does everything they can to ensure that their guests feel comfortable and can enjoy their stay to the fullest. The kitchen is excellent and offers a selection of creative and lovingly prepared dishes that impress both in terms of taste and appearance. The ingredients are fresh and of high quality, which is reflected in every bite. From the starters to the main courses to the desserts – every dish is a little highlight in itself. I was particularly impressed by the variety of flavors and the creative composition of the dishes, which always provide a positive surprise. Overall, a wonderful experience that leaves nothing to be desired. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and can fully recommend this restaurant. A big thank you to the entire team for the unforgettable evening!

Absolute disappointment, pumpkin soup absolutely inedible. When we complained, the service said we could deduct one soup from two because we had already eaten some. Absolutely dubious in order not to disappoint promises. Service was friendly but the kitchen was massive There is a need to catch up when it comes to gastronomy.

Wanted to sit on the terrace, they didn't let me even though there were other people sitting....terrible service...if the waiter was afraid of freezing, then for nothing, it's not 0 degrees outside, but 19.. .

The restaurant is in the middle of the city of Darmstadt on Markt Platz. The view of the city is great and the furnishings are very stylish and modern. An open kitchen gives a good insight into what is happening at the pot. In addition to the individual dishes, the menu also offers the option of a three-course or four-course menu at a fixed price. Then you can combine the menu according to your own taste. That's a good thing. The potion size of the starters and the main course can be a little larger in relation to the price. Then that would be more appropriate. All in all, a very nice location, nice ambience, high-quality cuisine and dishes but also quite expensive.

Very nice view over the roofs of Darmstadt. From here you can not only see the Taunus, but even the Frankfurt skyline. Otherwise a nice bar with an open kitchen.

Nice restaurant with nice decor and a great roof terrace. The staff is great, very friendly and quick. The menu is small, but there is something for everyone. There are discounts for the prices. In some cases it's justified - sea bass for €33 is fine, but over €25 for a few ravioli with few vegetables is overpriced. The prices for dessert are also sometimes too high. The sorbet variation for €9 is okay, but €15 is definitely too much for a small amount of crème brûlée (actually only half a portion) with a dollop of cherry ice cream and a few preserved cherries.

The 5 stars only serve the blonde waitress Jasmin. Great service and absolutely child-friendly. Thanks Jasmin.

From 5 p.m. you can only get a table with a reservation. The service was very nice and on point. The drinks were fairly priced. I thought the food was very good but a bit too expensive.

The food was really bad for the price. Starter and main course. The best thing was the names on the menu. The wine we wanted was out of stock. The view is beautiful. However, we won't eat there again.

We had an extremely unpleasant experience in this cafe. From the moment we walked in we didn't feel welcome at all. The waitress was very pushy and constantly tried to take orders from us. One particularly rude male waiter even indirectly said something to me: “Get out of the way, dude.” This behavior is completely unacceptable and disrespectful. It seemed to me like the whole place was very racist and I felt extremely uncomfortable. We will definitely never go to this cafe again and advise anyone looking for a pleasant stay to give it a wide berth. If I go there next time, it will only be to complain to the manager.

It was a disgrace in every sense of the word. I was there with 5 people and ordered 4 cocktails. Different waiters constantly came and asked if everything was OK. Do you want anything else? But their behavior was like, "You've been sitting too long, go away." As we were leaving, a waiter said something very rude to my friend. Get out of my way." The thing is, we spoke our own language there, that is, we talked in Turkish, and we didn't bother anyone there, and I can fully say that they were racist towards us , they were still rude until we paid the bill, but when we left they talked without insulting us. Next time I see that waiter, I will tell him word for word what he said to my friend.

After a hearty meal, we (group of 5 people) wanted to end the evening with a drink at Obendrüber. When we arrived at the top, there was a sign waiting for us at the entrance to the restaurant that said that from 5:30 p.m. it was only available with a reservation. We were there around 7:15 p.m. There were still several tables available both indoors and outdoors that did not have a reservation sign. Well...even though we pointed out to the waiter that we didn't want to eat, we only got a "no" “Service desert Germany” would be the generic term here. If you don't want any customers, you've probably had enough. Addendum: After a later telephone inquiry as to whether there was still room for five people today, the answer was yes. After 9 p.m. it wouldn't be a problem. The guests who want to eat would be taken into account beforehand, as there is currently a staff shortage. That was an honest statement that I'm sure everyone can understand. An apology was also made for the previous reaction. Therefore increased from one star to 3. Tip: Communicate openly and honestly with guests right from the start.

It all looked very nice. We came without reservation and they said “as of now no avails, maybe in 15 min but maybe not”. I asked if they could call me and let me know, which wasn’t possible. I asked if I can call and ask, they said also not possible. Kind of strange attitude towards customer service.

Almost everything is right here, and there are good seats inside and outside. On the terrace you also get a fantastic view over the city center!

The atmosphere is that of a "above the city" kind. Really nice! Service is - well, the way how German service tends to be. Food was arranged very nicely, prices are too high for what it is though (happy I did not have to pay) and the difference in size of plates needs to be looked at again. The asparagus pasta was half a single white asparagus, and a few pieces of pasta. In Italy, would be ok since you have many dishes, but in Germany not so much. Reconsider.

I often go to Obendrüber in Darmstadt for its nice vibe and drinks. But last Friday, when my friends and I arrived at around 6:00 PM, the terrace was mostly empty. We didn't know about the reservation rule, and someone, I assume the manager, told us to leave. It's okay to have rules, but the way it was handled was really strange, offensive and rude. They could have just explained the reservation thing and served us one drink. It ruiner my mood at one of my favorite spots downtown.

Unforgettable experience! I organized our last date night here and I was really looking forward to it. The drink order was successfully made, and we said that we would not order food for now. The server took the cutlery away from the table, which was understandable because our table is very small. A few minutes later, the manager came and told us that the next time we come here, we will also order food. Of course, this could also be heard clearly at the next table, and I don't think the rhetoric was appropriate either. Maybe not even 10 minutes had passed, but we already felt terrible. After that, we didn't even want to stay there for long, we asked 3 waiters for the bill before the 4th waiter finally brought it out. I can somehow understand this profit-oriented approach. But I don't know why they made us feel that we don't have enough money to be there. we wanted to enjoy the cocktails and see the view. I have never experienced such horrible service in my life. I will never go there again and I will not recommend it to anyone…

On our stroll through the city today we had something to drink at Obendrüber (which is one of the few remaining specialist clothing stores in Darmstadt) and the top! Used changing area for our daughter. Service is now much better than it was at the beginning, the view over the spring fair and the city center in general is unique. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio for the food isn't quite right for us personally, but the drinks and cake are great 😊

A great location to relax from shopping with a coffee and a fantastic view of the castle and state museum or to have a leisurely breakfast. A very pleasant atmosphere and super nice, friendly service staff. Always a wonderful visit.

I think this place has a lot of fans. Unfortunately, my wife and I are not one of them after our first and probably last visit today. Sandwich, coffee and cake were basically ok, but they were brought in a strange order, first coffee, then cake, and finally the sandwich. I think good service includes asking if something should come first. Furthermore, you can bring coffee and cake at the same time. The double espresso is then served in a relatively large cup, which then looks as if the drink was not finished. You can do it like that, I personally don't like it, "the eye can't drink too". In addition, with this type of cup, the espresso gets cold very quickly, so that the later arrival of the cake unfortunately results in an unsatisfactory enjoyment experience. The service was otherwise quite quick, although only half the time after everything was brought no one came. I also tried to make eye contact to ask for the bill, unfortunately unsuccessfully. Finally, a nice gentleman in a white shirt took pity on clearing away the dishes that had been on the table for a while. No question as to whether everything was okay, no question as to whether there could be anything else. Well, then the feedback ends up on Google. We found the ambience to be relatively bland, rather cafeteria-like, but of course this is also subjective and perhaps due to the overall experience. I am attaching a photo of the double espresso to the review. Would recommend investing in matching cups here. Nevertheless, I wish the restaurateur team much success and hopefully many satisfied guests!

The Californian restaurant is located on the top floor of the Henschel department store. When the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view. The service is very friendly and attentive. The food itself is tasty but in my opinion a bit expensive. The menu is surprisingly small. The friendly service and the great view definitely make it a recommendation.

I made a reservation online and asked for a call back. The service on the phone was very friendly. They had noted my gluten intolerance on site and directly on the screen. The advice and service were great. “Moving around” side dishes wasn’t a problem. And in general the food was really delicious. Expensive but really worth the money! Really recommended for a more expensive date night. In summer, the terrace is also worth a visit for an Aperol or something similar.

A Lillet Wild Berry was served in a dirty glass with lip prints from several! users, so this glass wasn't even washed properly that day. When we complained about this, they brought us another glass with half the amount, served with the waiter's displeasure on top! Then - the food came “thrown” onto the table.

I was here for an evening reading and can't say anything about the food because there were only drinks. But they were very good and the people in service were really nice and friendly. At the end I even got a cocktail to go for half price. Really a great place!

The food is really next level! It's not a run-of-the-mill meal and tastes simply fantastic. The service is very attentive and nice. And even when it's full, you get great service. The open kitchen is special and you can see that quality is behind everything. Prices are more expensive - yes, but the food is totally worth it. We will be back!

Very chic restaurant with a great view over Darmstadt. The food is good. Unfortunately you rarely get a place.

Beautifully designed restaurant/bar with very friendly staff. The terrace offers a beautiful view, especially in summer. I actually just come here for drinks. Today I ordered a Caesar salad. This one didn't really convince me. Almost only iceberg lettuce on the plate (I didn't find any eggs in the salad, neither did any other vegetables, although I can't remember whether there was anything about it on the menu...) and it cost around €20 (including chicken breast). Conclusion: I'll definitely come here often but I'll stick with the drinks. These taste very, very good. Whether coffee, homemade spritzers or wine/beer/gin and tonic.

The food was okay, but you would have expected a lot more from the exotic list of ingredients, the look, the small portions and, last but not least, the prices. It gives the appearance of gourmet cuisine, but it can't quite live up to it. However, the staff and location were great.

Unfortunately, the hygienic conditions in the restaurant are very poor (see consumer window for Hesse). According to the report, pest rodents and a very strong mold infestation were found, which can be harmful to health. Unfortunately very disappointing for a restaurant in this price range.

Die Reise hat sich gelohnt ! Die Atmosphäre, der aufmerksame Service und insbesondere die unvergessliche Aussicht haben meinen Besuch zu etwas Besonderem gemacht. Das Essen war eine gelungene kulinarische Reise. Von Anfang bis Ende war es eine Freude, in diesem Restaurant zu sein. Die harmonische Atmosphäre und die sorgfältige Betreuung durch das Personal haben dazu beigetragen, dass dieser Besuch einzigartig war. Die Aussicht war atemberaubend und hat die Mahlzeit zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis gemacht. Ich kann dieses Erlebnis nur empfehlen und ermutige andere dazu, diesen Ort zu besuchen. Sie haben die Möglichkeit, meine vor Ort gemachten Bilder anzusehen, die sicherlich helfen, noch mehr von dieser fantastischen Erfahrung zu vermitteln.

Sehr zentral gelegene Rooftop Bar über dem Kaufhaus Henschel mit super Ausblick über die Darmstädter Innenstadt, gerade bei Sonnenuntergang am Abend. Aussicht auf Landesmuseum, Langer Ludwig, etc. ist top. Gute Qualität des Essens bei gehobenen Preisen. Weinauswahl könnte größer sein. Die Speisekarte ist auch für Vegetarier mit einigen guten Speisen versehen.

Kein Einzelfall. Wir probieren es immer wieder und werden extrem enttäuscht. Nettes Personal, aber total unaufmerksam. Da liegt nach dem Abräumen noch ein Messer rum, die Gläser seit 30 min leer. Auch an den Nachbartischen. Wir rudern mit den Armen und fragen nach der Dessertkarte. Wird sofort gebracht. Aber es kommt niemand mehr zur Bestellung. Aber ständig läuft jemand vom Personal sinnlos am Tisch vorbei und sieht das alles nicht. Da muss jemand hin, der ganz professionell den Überblick über ALLES hat. Auch übers komplette Personal. Das beste Essen, das schönste Ambiente nutzt nichts, wenn der Service alles kaputt macht. So hat das keine Zukunft. Das ist so schade!

Es wirkte auf uns, als fehlt jemand mit Überblick, auch um ungelernten Kräften die Basics beizubringen. Beim abräumen wurde Besteck liegen gelassen, wir (und auch die Tische um uns rum) saßen vor leeren Gläsern (so habe ich den ganzen Abend nur ein Getränk getrunken), wir fragten nach der Nachtischkarte (die auch gebracht wurde) und keiner kam um eine Bestellung aufzunehmen. Irgendwann verliert man da einfach die Motivation jedes Mal aufs Neue um die Aufmerksamkeit vom Service zu betteln und wir fühlten uns (trotz zentralem Tisch) irgendwie vergessen. Darauf angesprochen kam eine Entschuldigung, aber mehr auch nicht. Das Obendrüber bewegt sich in einem Preisniveau (bei dem man einfach etwas mehr erwartet) und viele kleine (wesentlich günstigeren) Lokale bieten ein schöneres Essenserlebnis. Wir hatten uns wirklich sehr auf den Abend gefreut und gingen ziemlich enttäuscht. Haben ähnliche Erlebnisse auch von Bekannten gehört, also leider wohl auch kein Einzelfall …

Einer meiner Lieblingsorte in Darmstadt, insbesondere im Sommer. Hier gibt einfach den besten Aperol und auch das Essen ist sehr lecker, wenn auch nicht günstig. Der Ausblick ist mega und auch das Personal sehr freundlich. Insbesondere Miriam (ich hoffe, ich erinnere mich richtig) hat uns unseren Aufenthalt noch schöner gemacht. :)

Ich habe bereits zweimal das Obendrüber besucht und muss sagen, es war beide Male großartig. Das Essen hat wirklich köstlich geschmeckt, das hatte ich so nicht erwartet. Es ist definitiv immer einen Besuch wert. Der Service ist zudem sehr schnell und äußerst freundlich. Vielen Dank, ich komme gerne wieder.

Sehr sehr gute Weinauswahl! Und faire Preis-Leistung. Nur leider werden schon 50 Minuten vor Feierabend keine Drinks mehr gemixt. Sonst gerne auch 5 Sterne 🙂

Wir waren am 01.11.23 zum zweiten mal bei Ihnen zu Gast. Wir wurden von Yonas bedient. Durch seine sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Art seine Gäste zu verwöhnen, machte er diesen Abend zu etwas besonderem. Wir fühlten uns rundum wohl und gepaart mit dem exzeIlenten Essen war dieser Abend GRANDIOS! Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Über den Dächern von Darmstadt kann man den Kaffee genießen, leider ist der Cappu doch etwas dünn geraten, schade.

Das Essen ist super, der Service ist super aber ich persönlich frage mich welch untalentierter grobschlächtiger Hufschmied (ohne den Beruf in den dreck zu ziehen) dieses unglaublich hässliche Besteck fertigte. Falls ich mal in den Krieg ziehen müsste wäre der Esslöffel hier meine erste Wahl. Er eignet sich bestimmt gut um Schützengräben auch im tiefsten Sibirischen Winter auszuheben, aber um damit zu essen ist jeder Spaten besser geeignet

Wir hatten online einen schönen Tisch erbeten und haben (nach unserem Empfinden) den schönsten bekommen. Sehr schmackhaftes und feines Essen. Der Service perfekt, freundlich und herzlich. Große Empfehlung für besondere Abende.

Manche Gerichte sind nen Tacken zu teuer, besonders wenn unpassende Aromen aufeinandertreffen und/oder die Portionsgröße nicht stimmt. Ist aber nicht immer so und optisch ist immer alles ansprechend.

- wunderbare Aussicht - schöne Einrichtung - zur Mittagszeit viele Gäste - Essen lecker - eher hochpreisig - Bedienungen freundlich, aber gehen nicht proaktiv auf Kunden zu, mehrmaliges auf-sich-aufmerksam-machen notwendig.
